Let's begin that day 16.
I have already take down all my equipment.
Litte remark....
I notice that in Europe the safety standards are much lower than in Canada.
For example, I have seen electrical elements very close to the showers
like for example a light switch.
Or a forced air module.
Yes the big machine with the pipes coming out and all with the big
electric wire that goes inside.
In a bath, a bath-shower.
Here, the stairs that are behind, it's the only way out.
So if there is fire on the ground floor ...
Well everyone upstairs will die.
There is no other escape route.
It's still dangerous.
So I'm leaving a little later this morning, it's around 9am.
Yeah, 8:55.
And I'm heading to the mountains, in the middle of nowhere I have no idea where
I'm going to sleep tonight, I'll probably camp somewhere.
There is nothing.
There are small villages.
very Small villages a bit everywhere.
Well, that's it, let's go.
This morning when I went out I pulled out all my stuff and I thought I was going
prepare my map from the outside of the condo because I knew that the wi-fi
fine, but finally it was not that good so I had trouble preparing my route.
And that's something we really need when you leave a big city like Oslo.
It's a labyrinth, there are street that go everywhere, there are road going on
top of the others and when we do not know the city it's really not obvious.
And I do not know the names of places where I'm heading, there are so many names and ...
When there are names like Fridtjof Nansens Institutt Lagasen 2 Byggeplass ...
It's confusing, I can not remember that.
It does not fit in my brain.
So I downloaded an application yesterday, that great.
Open Street Map.
I was saying not long ago in a capsule that Google map was the best map.
I still think so ...
But with the internet.
We just download the map, it's very useful, it gives a lot of information,
I would say that I will still continue to use it.
But I will use it with Open street map.
Actually...
Yesterday I downloaded the full map of Norway, with cycle routes.
And right now in offline mode, one thing that I'm not able to do with Google map,
it is to use the cycle routes and she tells me...
I think she tells me better than Google when to turn and she always tells me the names of the streets.
So I find that to ride a bike it's better.
I also have my Strava map, because it gives me popular route by the cycling community.
But Strava is not able to tell me when to turn.
Which is a little unpleasant.
So I make my way with Strava to make sure the way and I use Open street map to guide me.
At this moment I find that that's the best thing.
Yeah.
Let's continue in this labyrinth.
Oh, I do not know if you remember, but when I got back to Oslo, I went down a big hill.
Very very very long, it was great.
But now, even if I go out from the other side well, I still have to climb.
And it goes up a lot, quite often.
And from now, I must say that Open Street Map, I love it.
The way she speaks, the paths she makes me take.
Sometimes I tell to myself, '' she's stupid '', but it always ends up being logical.
Super easy to follow.
Much more than Google Map.
It's incredible how she now every trail.
I would never have seen it.
I arrived from that road, there I must come here and go down there.
I would never have found that.
Ahah ouch!
It's really a chance I have a GPS that works well because.
It's a real labyrinth.
It goes left, it goes right, it goes below the roads, it goes again below
roads, it goes through small paths because the bikes can not go there.
This is completely crazy!
To enter a big city like Oslo it's not complicated we just have to follow
signs that indicate Oslo.
To get out, it's a lot more complicated.
A real labyrinth.
It's been 30km since I left Oslo.
I am in the suburbs.
It's still a bit of a labyrinth.
it come better and better.
I still probably have a good ...
At least 30km before really arrived in campaign.
In the mountains.
I think in the regions where I'm I'm going, there are two things that will slow me down.
The elevation and those beautiful landscapes.
And it's time for the Mc break.
Yes, because I will have much more for my money, I will be able to fill my
bottles of water with ice.
I still have a hoisin salad.
I do not know what is it?
That must be good.
And I have my smoothie.
And Wi-Fi, so I'll be able to talk to my love.
It's cool huh.
It's good they push hard on recycling at Mc Donald's in Norway.
It's just that when we are not able to read what is written because it's
written in Norwegians it's a little less obvious.
Oh! I don't like to see this.
It goes down.
That means I'm going down again in a city.
Now I am 243 m high.
But I did not just climb 243 m, I climbed 484 m since this morning.
That means I'm going down again completely in the city and probably I'm going
up again on the other side to return in the mountains.
Yééé, a lot of elevation and it's just a beginning.
Ahh!
Yeah anyway, it's nice though.
I enter my last big city before to go to the mountains.
It is really nice.
Ah! With Open Street Map also we can finish in trails like that.
I mean yes it's a bike path, but...
Cycling and cycling touring is not the same.
I mean on a level like that I can climb, but not in garnotte.
I'm just going to slip and fall
So here I have to push it, and a bike like is not so easy to push.
Ah! At least it will not be long.
Yeah, I think Open Street Map is abusing a little about use only cycling road.
He wants to avoid at all taken to pass on roads like that.
And I don't care about it that much.
It's a bit frustrating, because all trail i've just use was ill in garnotte
which is not that good because I do not have the bike for this...
I could just take that road from the city where was I
to ride here, it would have been much faster.
I certainly would not have seen everything it was a great experience, but ...
Was it worth it?
Well maybe.
I do not know if that's where Strava was passing me, I would have to compare, but ...
Open Street Map makes it go through the worst crappiest trail but the worst crappiest trails
are really the most beautiful.
I think when the roads look like that means we're out of town.
Now I am cyclo-cross touring.
Oh no he really brought me anywhere.
Ahh !!
It's going to be a memorable day.
Oh, that's so argh!!!
The trail he took me did not exist, so I went on a trail that is not on the map.
It's a trail, and I hope it's leading to a road eventually that I
see on the map in 200m maybe.
If it does not go to a road, I'm in shit.
Yeah, I've just did something terrible.
After my misadventure with Open Street Map.
Who brought me in tracks...
In trails that were not really trails.
I said to myself & @ $ # !, I will use Google map.
Because when I go out of my way, I I started to watch the route he gave me
and he made me go through small roads, that's ok.
And those shitty trails that I just did.
A lot of times.
So I said no no no, we gonna stop to ride like a fool, we'll take use Google map.
The new Google Map itinerary to go at the same place was only
5km more, but I had to...
Drop down of 250M that I had climbed and there I am trying to take it all up again.
I went down in the direction I was coming.
Yeah ... Quite big detour.
I made a good detour, on climbing.
It's not excellent.
So I'm still going to try to go as far as possible today so let's go.
I just found something to eat, in a convenience store, something
good, a wrap with a good yogurt and cereal.
But ... Their wi-fi does not work.
I will try to find another one further.
Maybe I'll try to find myself a place to sleep.
I'm really not as far as I wanted to be.
I was not able to have wi-fi in the convenience store there, because it was not working.
But I do not know why, here ...
Right here ... There is Wi-Fi.
So I looked for AirB&B, there is nothing close, the nearest is 40km,
which is still far away.
Because it's almost half of what I did today.
I have yet done 100km today.
99.36 actually.
And would have to stay two nights, which is not what I want to do.
And ... there is a room available in the city on Booking.
It's the same price than my come back home flight ticket.
So I will continue and I will find myself a place to camp.
It is 19:56h, the sun goes down in 2:10h, but as we are in the mountains, the sun is
entering in the trees.
So it's starting to be darker.
So for my safety, I install ....
A light.
I'll put a link down, it's awesome!!
It is a light that is made to be seen even in daytime.
It is so bright you can see it with a big fat sun.
So when I turn it on at night.
I put it in days mode anyway, so I blind the passing cars.
Some already complain.
And I put one on front too, which is even stronger.
Right now I put it in flash mode just to be seen.
At night, there is another mode where it lights up and it flashes just a little, but it lights up all the time.
This is really well done.
Well, I found myself a spot to sleep.
It's almost perfect.
But there is a problem...
Full of mosquitoes, full of mosquitoes.
So I covered myself, but that's doesn't change anything.
So I was there, on the ground and there was a mosquito.
So I will try to move my stuff there and we will see what it gives.
Well, it's 23:15 o'clock, you see the sun.
It's crazy, quarter past eleven.
It's completely crazy the sun.
This is completely crazy.
But hey, I just made all my transfers and it's really better mosquitoes speaking,
but there are still some ...
Quite to much...
So I'll go for a walk there, there is another place where I
could sleep, the only con is it's on concrete, but I have a mattress.
A small mattress, but ...
I think I'd rather sleep on concrete, than with mosquitoes.
Yeah because there's a door there that I can shut down.
We'll go see that.
Now 23: 30h.
So this is where I will spend the night.
Right there, because there is a barn door that I can close.
But it's a concrete floor.
So I close this thing.
So I am now in a shelter and that, it's my mattress.
Yeah.
I will appreciate the comfort of my house when I'll be back.
That's for sure.
Or just a bed in an inn tomorrow.
Yeah, but I had a choice between concrete, or mosquitoes.
Because for real the other place it was really wonderful.
Breathing well, the air was good, we were outside, but there were plenty of mosquitoes
so that was shit.
So we go for concrete.
It's a chance that I have a mattress.
Good night!
