1. Canales de aprendizaje de la música tradicional. Ritmo vs. mensaje (ENG subtitles) - Duration: 5:09.

To be able to perform the music from this conception...

... the first thing to do is to educate the ear.

Hello, I am Juan Antonio Torres, member of the band Vigüela and of the Association.

Be welcome to this first video of a series in which we'll...

deepen on features of the traditional music.

To be updated on the next videos that we'll publish

subscribe to the channel and click on the bell.

In this video we'll learn: 1. which are currently the available ways to learn traditional music

2. which is the result of the music when it is learnt from this different ways

and, finally, 3, how to make contemporary traditional music.

Watch the video until the end and we'll provide you the answer to these questions.

As we all know, nowadays there are different ways of learning traditional music.

The 1st one, that has always existed and it is currently the less used,

the intergenerational, from parents to children.

The 2nd, by audio archives, scores, internet, etc.

The 3rd, through lessons, workshops, attending concerts...

There is a relevant difference between the first one and the other two.

By the 2nd and 3rd you can just learn repertoires,

that is to say, songs, melodies, rhythms, lyrics, etc.

By the 1st one, you also learn the artistic and aesthetic characteristics

that the person who teaches consider that this music must have.

When the people that learn by different ways play together, what happens?

A relevant difference is perceived.

One of the main differences is the treatment of lyrics and melody

according to the learning method.

For the ones that learnt intergenerationally,

the message prevails: how the text is said in the melody.

For the other two, text and message seem to be in a second tier,

and the rhythm, in which the melodies are inserted, receive a higher priority...

so lyrics and melodies are conditional on that rhythm.

Then, to treat rhythm as more relevant , without paying attention to prosody

results on a communicational deficit...

... that doesn´t result when the music is learnt by the intergenerational channel.

To be able to perform the music from this conception...

...the first thing to do is to educate the ear...

... and stop listening from a rhythm approach.

It is difficult, specially for us, people of nowadays, because we live in the era or rhythm...

... and for us it is difficult to conceive music without it.

The concept of rhythm is defined with constant and static times.

Rhythm 3/4, 6/8, 2/4, 4/4, etc

To understand and to be able to perform the traditional music...

we must learn to listen it in another way. But, what way?

In the traditional music, the rhythm is secondary, because what leads the performance...

... is the message, the texts said in the melody.

Vigüela have been working 4 years from this conception.

Before that, we used to make traditional music from the rhythm approach, like everybody.

This change of approach is not in order to make our music sound as in the past. Not at all.

Then, why do we do this? Why have we changed?

Because we believe that, in order to make traditional music of the XX century...

we must give each element of this music (rhythm, melody, texts, etc)...

the roles and the relationships between them that they have typically had.

This music has features and a flavour, apart of repertoires.

Those features are the ones that must be dealt in order to make contemporary traditional music...

with no need to turn to other music styles like pop, jazz, rock, etc.

We are doing this series of videos because we think this proposal...

... can be interesting for other people who wanted to make music from this other approach.

So if you want to get deeper on what we have explained here...

... pay attention to the next videos.

Apart of this, our Association offers face-to-face workshops and courses

in which we teach the artistic and aesthetic characteristics of traditional music.

For instance, we have made a course of basics on jota, customized workshops...

... for groups that work on traditional music.

And after Christmas we will make courses of jota, fandango, seguidilla..

both for singing as for improvement and for instrument.

On Sunday afternoon we meet with the pupils at El Carpio de Tajo to practice jota, fandango and seguidilla.

So thank you very much for you attention. We wait for you in the next video.

If you've liked this, subscribe, click on the thumb up...

... and click the bell so it will update you when we published more.

You can subscribe to our mailing list in our website.

Thank you very much, see you on the next one.

New York Pass o Sightseeing Pass ?,valen la pena?.Guía de New York. - Duration: 11:25.

In the eighth chapter of the New York guide, the eternal question, it's worth it

take a tourist pass to visit the attractions of New York?, and in case

affirmative, take out the New York Pass or the Sightseeing Pass?

As we always tell you, they are not decisions to be taken quickly,

passes are not cheap, but the price of the attractions usually does not

is, so you have to get the accounts very well, thinking in advance what places

Yes or if you are going to visit. Here we will pass the prices without a pass

a series of outstanding attractions in the city, and then we will give you in which of

Both passes are included. The New York Pass is taken out by the amount of

days you choose, and you have unlimited pass to the attractions, regarding the Sightseeing

Pass, you have two modes, also per day,

that works the same as the previous pass, or the flex, in the latter you choose the

number of attractions to visit, 2 3 4 5 6 7 or 10, and is valid for one month for

visit once, each of the chosen attractions. So you have

enough to think about when choosing, at the end of the video we will give you the

prices of the different options. Are you ready ?

hand and write, let's start!

Tourist bus: price without pass between 40 and 60 dollars. Here is the biggest difference

between both passes, while the New York Pass offers you the downtown tour and

uptown for a day in Big Bus, the Sightseeing Pass gives you the tour of the City

Sightseeing, for the number of days you have contracted the pass.

First stop: the memorial museum of 9/11. We believe that it is one of the places that

Surely, you've thought about going. The schedule is from Sunday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday

and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Price of admission without pass $ 24, is

Included in the New York Pass and the Sightseeing Pass.

Tip: Tuesday afternoon

Admission is free, although access is limited. We leave here the link that you

leads to information.

Since we made the stop in zone 0, how about climbing the One World

Observatory?, Price of the entrance 34 dollars without pass, this observatory

We saw in our video the best views of New York, we leave here the

link of the video that has all the information. This viewpoint is included

in the Sightseeing Pass, not in the New York Pass.

Another of the icons of New York, the Statue of Liberty.

We go to Liberty Island and Ellis Island in Circle Line Cruises, entrance price

Without a pass, $ 19 is included in both New York Pass and

Sightseeing Pass. You have included the pass to the island, not the climb the Statue of the

Freedom, if you want to go up to it you must take out

a separate entry. We made a special video how to climb the crown of

the Statue of Liberty, we leave here the link.

What we do recommend you on this trip, is to get off at Ellis Island and visit the

Museum of Immigration, is a museum that you can not miss.

In both passes you have different walks along the Hudson River, check well

you have, and what interests you, we leave here the link of our tour in the

Water Taxi

The next point, I think it's another of New York's must-sees: the Top of the

Rock, the viewpoint of the Rockefeller Center. Price without pass $ 39, is included

In New York pass and Sightseeing pass, we leave here the video link of the best

views, where we give you all the information for the upload.

Intrepid Sea, museum. The Intrepid is an aircraft carrier transformed into a museum.

Located on Pier 86, it is one of the visits that is not essential,

It is interesting to do.

On the flight deck there are more than a dozen aircraft and helicopters

different times, you also have the visit to a submarine.

The hours are from April to November, from 10 to 17 hours, the price without pass is

24 dollars. It is included with the New York Pass and with the Sightseeing Pass.

Another icon of New York, which you may want to climb, is the Empire State Building.

We also made videos explaining how to upload, so we will not be

reiterative. The cost without a pass is $ 39, included with the New York Pass, not

not included in this moment in the Sightseeing Pass, we leave here the link of the video

of the best viewpoints.

The Madison Square Garden is another of the must see sights of New York City

Madison Square Garden is located between the seventh and eighth avenues of

streets 31 to 33, was inaugurated in 1968 and offers guided tours of its

facilities. The cost of entry without pass is 30

dollars, and is included with both the New York Pass and the Sightseeing Pass.

The other option to get to know him is to go see a sports show.

The Ride and Downtown Experience. Both are interactive shows

inside a bus. The Ride is the best known, you move through Manhattan and go

interacting with actors who are on the street. The Downtown Experience, is a

virtual tour made on the bus, in this case a trip to historical moments

from the city.

They are high-cost attractions, $ 69 for The Ride, and $ 54 for

The Downtown, but both are included in New York Pass, and Sightseeing Pass.

Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. If the days in New York are long enough

They will make you want to go shopping.

The Woodbury Common is an outlet in New Jersey, the cost of the bus ticket

round trip is $ 42, but is included in the Sightseeing Pass, while

On the New York Pass, you only get a discount.

And finally a series of

attractions such as Madame Tussaud, Replay, Gulliver's Gate, Ocean Odyssey, which

If you have children, or it rains, they can be a good option. They are around $ 37

each, and are included with the passes.

On this tour as you saw, we set aside the museums, because the prices

shown by them are always suggested, then it is quite deceptive

do the accounts.

Luna Park, Coney Island is another option, but we leave it for another chapter. 69

dollars has the cost of entry without a pass, but both cards have it included.

As we told you, the costs of the passes are not cheap, the New York Pass

you go from one day to 127 dollars, up to 10 days 299 dollars, quite similar is the

offer of the Sightseeing Pass, from one day 129 dollars and 10 days 319 passing in the

average for the rest of the days in both cases. As we said the Sightseeing

Pass, has the flex option, which is to choose the number of attractions, and

these range from two attractions to 12, two attractions 70 dollars, and 12, u $ s 219 in

the medium also going through other options.

Did they do their accounts ?, I told them there was a lot to calculate, this type of passes

They are profitable if you are going to make several of the options shown above.

We hope you liked the video, that we have helped you, if it is

so do not forget to subscribe to like it. Thanks accompanist!

KOREA HAUL | MONGABONG - Duration: 12:59.

Hello welcome back to my channel! I'm Mong, for those that you don't know. Today I

have a Korean haul for you guys. It took me one year to return back to Seoul and

I just loved Korea so much! You guys know that I'm super into Korea and last year I

actually went to Korea six times. Unfortunately like I haven't really had

the opportunity all the time to go back that often so this time I decided to

give myself a birthday treat. I did so with my best friend Sarah and she was

there with me in Seoul, we spent a lovely three days there. I just didn't care

about work at all. I did have an Instagram highlight that is pinned up for you

guys on my Instagram account so for those of you who are interested to see

the places that I went, the things I did in Seoul especially the Cafes, you guys

can here go to my Instagram @Mongabong and check out the highlights. I

spent quite a bit of money but it's also because I kind of just accumulated the

things that I wanted to buy like throughout the whole year. I went in there and went

crazy ~ alright! let's get started! First thing first

I'm gonna talk about the earrings I bought. This one is a pair I got from

this shop. It is in Hongdae I did feature the shop on my

Instagram stories highlight so if you are interested please go there and check

it out. It has like pearls and they look like grapes. Like pearl grapes so I

thought they are really really dainty and beautiful. And I love Korea's jewelry

because the styles are often very dainty and very classic and elegant. And at the

same time the quality is good but it's not too expensive. So this was around

like $15 Sing dollars which wasn't the cheapest but honestly I haven't really

seen anything that is so pretty. The thing about the accessories there is that

even though there are like a ton of jewelry shops around, they don't really

sell the exact same things. I've got these...

they are super dainty and small. I got them from forever 21 and I got them for

about 3 bucks which was super cheap. So I like that it's very very small and

dainty and it's very light. The only downside is that the quality is really bad so I

think I can't get that much wear out of it, probably just another 5 to 10 more times

and it's just gonna break. The next pair of earrings I got were these really

beautiful dome ones, like they look like tortoise shells but they are kind of

made into these kind of hexagonal shape. The address of the place is here it is

in Insa-Dong and I paid 12,000 won for this that brings it up to about 15

Sing dollars. But I really like it for this I think it looks very fall

appropriate. it's just very unique, look at that! I got this from the shop "Made in Pink"

I got a few makeup products just to try

out new products and to stock up. I always watch Korean youtubers and they

always rave about the Too Cool for School Art Class by Rodin contour. It has

like three different brown shades and comes in a package like this. Think I do

like it but honestly the payoff is so so so sheer, which I understand it's the

Korean trend like they don't like to over contour but for me your girl's

face is big so I just want it to be small. I still prefer my Hoola Bronzer from

Benefit and all of my American you know bronzers as compared to this but even

though it's sheer, it's very easy to blend. You do not get that muddy or like

you know too brown or orange kind of tone. it's very very cool and natural

which is good for all skin tones. If you are into that kind of natural Korean look, you can go for that.

This is the Etude House Brow Volume Volumizer.

Got it because I honestly was just trying to hit the tax rebate spending as usual.

It is a brow volumizer so it has like fibers in it and it also acts as a

brow tint so it kind of just tints your brows and makes it to the color to match

your hair and what not but at the same time it

helps to make your brows look fuller and thicker and just keep them in place.

I'm using it today I like it that is a two-in-one kind of product and I got it

in the shade 02 natural brown. This was about 10 11 Singh dollars which is

pretty affordable I also went to Innisfree Tintin and I got two single

shadows after watching youtubers obviously I really liked the industry

packaging it is so minimal and just really really chic and nice so these

were pretty cheap they were going at 30% off on top of that really cheap price

tag it was not going 5k one that he buzzes off on that so I paid about like

5 bucks for one this is the glitter shadow just not sure wow wow oh my god

this is the shade 12 the shine is actually pretty subtle but I really like

it to put it in the middle of my eyelid and I also got a neutral brown color

this is in the shade 19 goes so I decided to stock up on my color my brows

and I bought two of them because they are so much cheaper over than Korea it's

about 6,000 won each at industry as I've got this really interesting product this

is called my drop water moisture it is like a little dropper thing that you add

to your foundation here I'm just going to show you basically this has like an

essence kind of texture I tried it out for like two days consecutively in Korea

but I honestly didn't really feel that there was much of a difference if

anything it didn't make my foundation kind of separate a little bit so I'm

still trying to find ways to make this work maybe it will work really really

well with the Innisfree my foundation which is the one that it comes together

with this was 10,000 won which is about 12 Singh dollars which wasn't too

expensive I also got this one I've always seen this brand Lily By Red

floating around YouTube and I just decided to get it for myself this is the

skinny mes brow pencil it's 1.5 mm which is really really

really thin I think it's very very similar to benefit precisely my brow and

also the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow Wiz. so this was only 7000 won which is

about 9 sing dollars which is very very very affordable. and I just love the

entire range of Lily by Red it it's just so trendy I also got this lipstick

this from the brand I'm Me Me this is the tik-tock lipstick satin it's very cute

it has like a heart shaped tip like this. I got the shade #7 I asked you guys on

Instagram which color should I go for seven or eight and a lot of you guys

said seven but honestly it was a very very close and when I wanted to buy

both it was actually sold out so I was like "okay... it's God's way of telling me

that i should actually go with shade #7." so I bought it and that's not

the best part. the best part was after I bought it immediately my mom sent a

photo over of a parcel that I'm Me Me sent over to my house and inside there are

all eight shades of this lipstick so YAY i got 2 and in fact all 8 shades!

I really like the formula it is very very smooth and creamy. it is like a bullet

lipstick kind of texture. Satin but at the same time it stains your lips so

it's very long-lasting but it is not dry.

I got myself three pairs of the Arituam

Idol lash in #2 petite volume. you guys know how much I like

this so every single time I go to Korea I will make sure to pick up and stock up

as much as I can. they come in this kind of box and it looks really nice and

wispy I like that it's clear band so it's actually really natural for those of you

who like your eyes to look wider I would recommend this lashes because it

kind of just does it in a way that's for effortless but just very pretty at the

same time. A box of three 8000 won is about $11 sing

dollars which is the most cheap. if you do the math is

about $3+ almost $4 per pair but you can actually use them quite a lot

because quality is really good. So of course when you go to Korea you've got

to make a trip to Olens because they have like the best best

lenses in terms of aesthetic. I've got a really really dry eyes so sometimes they

are not super comfortable for me but when it comes to the design, the opacity,

the colors it's just super nice. and the best part Black Pink is now the face of

Olens and they are also the ambassador for this particular series

called Spanish. so of course I had to get it because my dear Jennie wore it this in this

color as well. alright so this is Spanish grey

this is dailies it costs about 30 Sing dollars for a box of 20 so that's 10

pairs. Not the cheapest I also got this one called Symphony it's also worn by one

of Black Pink girls and this is monthly. this is in the shade Symphony hazel

hopefully it will look very very nice and very natural. I also got this one

called Crush, 3 con silicone hydrogel three color contact lens, this one is grey

so it looks like this. I will let you guys know after I try them out for

myself. I also got this one called Falling In Love in Choco so this kind is

actually very very natural as you can see, it's just like a rim. It won't actually

really change the color of it it's just gotta give you a very very nice like rim

around your eyes . Let me just show you guys the lenses that I've got from Japan

as well because I did fly over from Japan to Korea so I'm just gonna include my

Chou Chou lenses that I bought from Japan Donki Quijote.

They look like this ~These are in the shade Fresh Lime.

I also stocked up on my Etude House Ceramide Mask.

these are like your 1000 won kind of mask which you can use daily and honestly

out of of like the Korean drug stores - so innisfree, etude house, seam, faceshop etc

When it comes to their 1000 won masks, I highly highly recommend Etude House ones

ones because I feel that they are like the most effective for the same

price and their range is amazing and huge. You do not feel like you just

did nothing to your skin. I highly recommend theseEtude House masks.

When you go to Korea they are often one plus one so you get 20 pieces for the price of 10.

Let's not forget the clothes behind me! I did buy a few clothing items this time in Korea.

First one is this knit sweater that I got for like on a sale at Forever 21

It just looks like a very beautiful periwinkle blue kind of cable knit material

It's just really really good for winter. and when I go to winter

countries I don't know why I just get very impractical and start buying winter

clothes because I got so inspired by looking at all the girls and I'm like "maybe I can

make that work in Singapore" but that never ever happens so please do not

trust yourself when you're there. I got myself a new coat this is how it looks

like. It is a very nice felt material and in a gorgeous teal color. I got this

for 29,000 won which brings it up to about $35 Sing which was

not expensive at all and it's just very very beautiful. It is a very very good

piece for layering I love this color because you can wear it with your white,

you can wear it browns, you can wear with your pastel colors and you just look so

like sweet you know. And I just think it's such a unique color that I don't

own in my wardrobe which is why I bought it

Lastly I also got this top when I was

shopping in Hongdae and I just thought it looked really

really nice and very Muji. It's just a very nice layering piece because of the

like sack kind of material. It looks like this it's very oversized the color is

just so flattering on my skintone and I just like that it's a very elegant and

effortless kind of piece that would style really well with so many different pieces.

Alrighty that's it from me guys! Thank you so much for watching. I hope

How I Gain 4K Hashtags Impressions with 400 Instagram Followers? - Duration: 7:28.

alright guys this is how I exactly got 4K impressions with hashtags with a

400 followings so even when you are a small account on Instagram you're

still able to rank at the top of hashtag and get tons of tons of

engagement and may actually converting into followers into website clicks and

profile visits whatever purpose that you're going for so in today's video I'm

going to share my experience with hashtag break it down into perspective

and even each of the hashtag that I used secrets are gonna revealed so if you want to know

how to do it continue watching alright now as you see I prepare... prepare

all the notes which is some of the stats in one of my posts that recently that I

posted on November 13 at 12 a.m. and those are the hashtags that I used

I'm gonna break it down into one on one what exactly I posted on my Instagram is

basically me wearing my clothes and actually showing my drawing well I'm not

with my drawing right now which I'm supposed to show you so this is the

drawing that I posted so literally I was holding my drawing like that so the

content itself is actually kind of mysterious so I'm going to show you that

picture later actually the caption is call-to-action it tells people to watch

my videos on YouTube so did I serve my purpose you're gonna find out very soon

we're gonna focusing on the stats right here hopefully you guys can see it so

let me hold my camera a little clearer HEH! I only have 400+ followers

exposing myself is not cool (asmr) what did I get is that I get 300 likes + from

the post is still kind of growing followed by 3 comments 10 saved

20+ profile visits 3 website clicks which is kind of cool for me

4K reach with 94% non followers three follows which is a little less (aw)

Now it comes to impressions 4.8K impressions overall

with a 4K reach and 4.5K alone is coming from hashtags

hashtags guys I actually listed out all the hashtags that I used right here

27 hashtags which including my personal hashtag #DrawWithMike and

#MikeTheDopeToast so those two hashtags apparently is not going to be searched

by the others obviously so there's like 25 left hashtags range from 3K which is

one of them is ranking to about 12.8 million

which is the biggest hashtag 3 hashtags ranking in the recent feed

and there is eight of them which is ranking at the top so there was a lot of

things have been done I feel like so much effective when you woke up and you

have a schedule for yourself so I will totally suggest everyone to use a

schedule and maybe that's how I'm actually able to film in the morning

finally because I usually film at night even you know my subscribers and people

watching videos know that I am like a night owl how I am able to do that back

to talk about hashtags so the first hashtag you see right here is

#igsketch I'm going one on one right now so it has 14K #interiorsketching only 5K

followed by #conceptualdrawing 3.8K this one is a little exceptional the gap is

pretty huge is #architectures it has almost 800K I'm ranking at the top with my two

recent posts including the one I'm speaking right now so you can see the

range is pretty wide right here 700K I'm still able to rank I can rank in 5K

I can rank in 3K as well it's about the capacity they have which is

what I'm considering in the last one if you watched Draw With Mike Episode 4 I'm

going to link in the description I spoke about hashtag capacity in terms of post

capacity which is how many posts it has another information that we don't get is

how many people are actually searching for that is my post is going to rank

in recent feed and top feed at the same time the answer is yes both of these dual feeds

top and recent are working interchangeably when you're ranking at the top people

are able to see your post at the top of the hashtag without scrolling down

recent feed is mostly chronological 700K this is the hashtag that I did well but

I'm not actually seeing my post in recent because there's so many newer

posts coming and refreshing the last post I check this one before I make this

video was like few minutes ago very big hashtag considering my sizes and I'm

still able to rank in that EHEM the reason why I could actually probably did well

with this big hashtag is because of how these the rest of the hashtags actually

kind of related and everyone related hashtag might be different how many

architectural hashtags with a similar keyword that I'm using right here I actually

have #architecturaldrawing which I'm ranking in the recent feed means that

there is not so many posts at 46K post no matter how huge these hashtag

or how small these hashtags there is chances that you're going to rank in a

hashtag because there is enough people searching for the hashtag there are

search friendly terms the reason why you're not ranking is not because you're

not ranking but because there are too many posts getting burried so quickly

my post get shadow banned my post is not showing up in a hashtag feed but what I

can tell you right here is not because you're shadow banned you do not get enough

likes comments saved engagements to propel the post you might actually

think that why there is like some posts that doing well they only get about

hundred engagement why their post they can rank in a million post

hashtag these posts are actually getting a lot of engagements

initially they might be posted just a few hours ago everyone's hashtag pages

are always different are always unique even with less engagement you still able

to rank in big hashtags we speak about like longevity my post is

still getting engagements even two days later and it's still like a lot of them I

literally still rank in the first row of my hashtag but again every hashtag page

for everyone is different when you see this hashtag you might not see my

post at all best advice to all of you is that don't follow anybody else hashtag

strategy depends on the sizes of your followers once you posted something are

they actually engaging with you or is that too many ghost followers are

watching you there is a lot of answers to these type of questions you should

definitely watch my videos how many hashtags you gonna use I would

say the most important thing is not about the number of hashtags you

wouldn't get shadow banned how you're able to track those top hashtags you have is

actually going to help you to rank you might actually get smaller hashtags

because they might actually get less posts but they get searched a lot by

people less competition but great search velocity you can literally just use all

these eight hashtags you still able to get that probably the rest of the hashtags

you used you wouldn't get even one impression at all I would actually still

use probably 25 hashtags so never say never just try experiment if you never

want to experiment you wouldn't know the result because nobody can help you

unless you decided to help yourself I think I forget to introduce myself

my name is Mike follow my Instagram if you're interested in drawings

content even if you don't follow me you can send me a DM if you have problems with

hashtags any question about Instagram even personal life I forget to talk about one

thing do I really serve the purpose of using those hashtags I'd say yes because

I wanted people to actually go to watch my video by clicking my website link in

my profile when I share this on my story people to actually click my post

view it and go to my YouTube link so I actually achieved what I needed so

the most important thing about one post no matter what strategy you're using

it's all about the purpose that's what matters the most

subscribe to this channel hit the notification bell so you wouldn't miss

any new content coming from my channel Mike The Dope Toast well Christmas is coming

I probably would do a new episode of Draw With Mike so goodbye and peace out!

ENFP BABIES?! ADHD PARENTS?! - Dreams Around The World - Duration: 8:32.

So I got a really interesting question the other day. Someone wrote to me and

they told me that they are an ENFP I think they mentioned having ADHD as well

and were asking about if I plan to have kids, you know, what my thought process

was as an ENFP and this was a different message than the messages I get asking if

I will have someone's kid with them, so this was a refreshing one and I want to

answer that question in this video and we'll also look at the thought process I've

been through personally on this question and what that can tell us about ENFPs,

about thinking big, about planning out our lives and all that kind of good

stuff. Now if you're new here on the channel my name is Dan Johnston I am the

founder of Dreams Around The World and the creator of ENFP Unleashed and the

Free Freelancer and here on the channel and the podcast my goal is to help you

become the-best-version-of-yourself all while creating an awesome life for you and

those you love. Now I have thought a lot about this kids question, you know: Do I

want children? I think I'm not alone. I'm 34 if anyone's curious and people around

my age and I think younger, like this whole generation, something we ponder a

lot. We've seen interesting relationships with our parents we maybe read studies

about parents being less happy, you might have seen something called a happiness

gap with parents where it's like: no kids no kids no kids - whoo - kids kids kids kids

move out, right? And as someone who reads about psychology and such that kind of

stuck with me like why would you do the thing that makes you not happy? Generally,

I really like kids I volunteered with the Big Brother program back in Canada for five

years or so really love doing that and, you know, I think kids would be cool and

I think I'd be a pretty good dad, I would like to think, but then you read the

study or you hear things like on divorce rates - I don't know if you've ever done

this but like: yeah I would like to get married but 50% of people get divorced

like so why would I bother getting married we'll probably get divorced, right?

And something occurred to me recently and also by the way towards the end of

the video I'm gonna share a study that I just read which kind of blew my mind and

like, yeah, has a cool impact on all this, but I was thinking about this in these

studies and I thought okay, you know, 50% of people get divorced

just like, yeah, but like what percent of people create their own business and

live around the world, what percent of people go on like the crazy keto diet

and lose some weight, what percent of people write a book? I'm not trying to

like brag about things I've done here, but I think for yourself. Like nothing

else I've done in my life have I ever followed what other people do. I've

never been like: oh 9 out of 10 small businesses fail and that's a

stupid stat, I'll talk about that in another video, but 9 out of 10 small

businesses fail, I should never do it. It's never affected. In every other thing

I do I've always looked at what do I want and like an impulsive ENFP with

ADHD I'm like: that's what I want I'm gonna figure out a way to do it even if

no one I know has ever done it and everyone says I'm an idiot. Every other

part of my life and then somehow with marriage: Well the studies say that

50% of people have a divorce so I should never get married. Like I really was

thinking about that and doesn't hurt that I'm madly in love, right, that's a

nice encouraging factor as well but I was thinking about it and just realized,

like: why not say - Hey I'll start and go with the marriage. but we'll get into the kids too , but

why not say - Hey I want to be married and the goal is not to just get married the

goal is to the same way I've designed a pretty awesome life for myself design an

awesome marriage, find a way to not be in the 50% that fails, to not be in like the

forty percent that succeeds but not super happy, but being like the top 10 percent

of people who have an awesome marriage, to do the same thing I do in business. I

found people who succeeded doing things like I wanted to do and then learn from

them, why not do that with marriage find people with a super happy 40-year

marriage, it was like: How did you do that, can I learn from you and do the same

thing? It really kind of blew my mind that I'd not thought of it in this way

that in so much of my life I try to do things my own way or the way of at least

the minority, you know, not go with the herd and then in this super important

area of life - just to be like:: well I don't know that's what the studies say

when they randomly survey 500 people who are at home answering the phone and

happy to talk to survey people, okay. That goes with the

kids as well now when it comes to having kids I'm not gonna say in this video

something definitive but I've changed my thinking on it not to be like what do

the study say but to be like what do I really want what would make me happy

even if it's really crazy like: well I'd like kids but I want seven and I want a

beach house and I want some maids and all that, then that would be the goal

right, I'm not saying that is what I want I'd get annoyed having maids around all

the time, but you know what I mean, thinking about what do I want and how do

I get there instead of what do other people say or what did the study say and

all that kind of thing. Now the really cool study - in preparation for this video

I quickly looked up this happiness gap concept again, something I'd read about a

few years ago and I looked it up and what was interesting is - surprise,

surprise, it only mostly applies to Americans and one of the cool things

about living in Europe that I have noticed and I've done other videos about

this is - you don't have this thing where you're like a teenager and you can't

drink and be part of society or even go in a bar and then suddenly you're an

adult but you're young so you only go to certain place and then you have kids and

you just stay at home all day and watch Netflix and then you're old and no one

talked to you in Europe everyone mixes. Go to a square in Spain and you'll have

12 year olds kicking around a soccer ball, you'll have 17 year olds drinking

some wine, you'll have 75 year olds drinking some wine and everyone in

between hanging out as well. You don't have this big divide and what was

interesting in this study I quickly read over I just read the results I can't say

I read the study yet, I'm gonna read it after, is in a lot of countries - they

didn't name the Czech Republic specifically because there wasn't a

study here, but France, Portugal, Spain, Russia, Hungary, happiness actually goes

up when you have children - interesting, so that's pretty cool when you have a

society that allows you to bring your kids in the bar with you because they're

like: who cares, like we don't have to all be puritans and when you don't suddenly

like have these divides between everyone then having children actually also makes

people happier. What would have been really crazy is if I didn't read that

study until I was like 60 and I was stupid about things I was

like: I'm not having kids, I read a study one time, never having kids

and then at like 60 or 90 or whatever I'm like in my deathbed

sounds like: Hey Dan did you read the study? Weren't you living in Europe? Do

you know you would have been happy? That would have been funny. Thankfully, I read

that already and I would imagine if you are watching this from America or Canada,

I think those are the two societies that I think have the biggest divides when

you have children and also isolate old people the most and sort of, you know,

some weird cultural things, I would imagine that you could take some of the

lessons from that and apply it to your own life. You know, just because you have

children you don't have to change everything you're doing necessarily and

all that and so probably you might not be able to have the full experience of

living in a place like Europe where it's a different culture around kids but

maybe you could learn something from that and improve your happiness with

kids as well. I would love to hear your comments below about having kids if

you've had them and you're an ENFP or not what's the experience been like, do

you have any tips. If you're gonna be all debbie downer we don't want to hear from

you - like I have two kids, I hate my life, you know, unless you have really good

reasons why you hate your life and you can provide that in some kind of advice

to help us not do the things you're doing. Otherwise would love to hear your

thoughts on this and, yeah, leave those comments below. If you haven't yet

Take the Phrasal Verb QUIZ! Do you know them all? - Duration: 18:48.

Well hey there! I'm Emma from mmmEnglish!

Question. How do you feel about phrasal verbs?

Do you shudder when you hear me say those words?

Or do you think "Nah, I'm cool with phrasal verbs,

they're alright."

Perhaps you think that you're a phrasal verbs expert.

Well today, we'll find out just how good you really are

because I'm going to test you with a phrasal verbs quiz.

As you know, native English speakers use phrasal verbs

all the time,

formally, informally, written and spoken English,

all the time, right?

Actually in this lesson right here, I talked about

the different types of phrasal verbs,

how to use them

and some tips about how to remember them

once you learn them.

Whereas me and Emma are friends,

we're hanging out now, yep.

But before I go on make sure you subscribe

to the mmmEnglish Channel.

Click that button right there.

It was ace! We had a ripper of the time.

We just hung out on the beach all day.

Piecing it together.

Yeah right, piecing it together. Figuring it out.

So let's dive in.

Now because you hear phrasal verbs everywhere,

it's so, so important to become familiar with them

and their different meanings and to start using them

more automatically.

This is a really important part of taking your English

to the next level.

So today we're going to find out

just how good you really are with phrasal verbs

and hopefully, you'll learn some new ones

that you can practise during the week.

Now since this is a test - a test.

I'll be asking you questions about the meanings

of different phrasal verbs

and I'll start off with some common ones.

Hopefully you get those ones easily but then,

they'll get harder, they'll get a little more challenging.

But right now, let's focus on the quiz.

I'm going to give you a phrasal verb up here

and then you'll see three different meanings.

All you need to do is guess the correct definition

of each phrasal verb, easy huh?

But to go one step further,

write a sentence with each phrasal verb that you hear

in the comments. I'll be checking to make sure

that you've used them correctly.

Just add it in the comments below.

Our first phrasal verb is 'come over'

Now does this mean...

The correct answer is B: to invite someone to visit you.

So you can use 'come over' to invite someone

to your house and to talk about people who visit you.

Would you like to come over for dinner tomorrow night?

Next phrasal verb, to 'break up'

So does this mean...

or does it mean

or does it mean

It's C!

You can use 'break up' to talk about

ending a relationship

and usually it's a romantic relationship.

So that one might have been a little trickier

because the other definitions that I gave there,

they actually relate to the verb 'break'

not the the phrasal verb 'break up'.

So they're similar but different.

Phrasal verbs can be sneaky like that.

Now I want to check, did you watch this lesson here?

In it, my friend Matt and I talked about phrasal verbs

and idioms that are used to talk about relationships

in English and we talked a lot about

breaking up there.

And there's also a bonus definition for you because

like many phrasal verbs, this one actually

has more than one meaning

because you can also use 'break up' to talk about

stopping a fight.

Now does that phrasal verb mean...

or

Well did you get it right?

We use 'get together' to talk about meeting up

with someone, whether it's at a house or a coffee shop

or a restaurant, anywhere!

Get together with a friend for dinner.

Get together with your family for the holidays

or get together with someone that you haven't seen

in a while.

And you might also hear 'get-together' used as a noun,

as in,

Okay, 'hear about'.

Now does that phrasal verb mean...

or

Yep, answer C is correct.

If you hear about something,

you're learning information.

You're told some news about something.

Oh and when you use 'hear about', it's usually

some news that's interesting or exciting

or surprising. So how are you feeling

so far about these phrasal verbs?

Did you get all of them right?

Or maybe you learnt a new one and that's cool too!

Now we're going to take this upper level

and challenge you with some more difficult

phrasal verbs. So let's see what you've got.

So does 'come down with' mean...

or

It's actually B.

Now this phrasal verb is often used when you're just

starting to feel sick.

So you can use this phrasal verb to talk about

that moment when you first start feeling sick,

when you first start experiencing the symptoms

of an illness

or you can use it to talk about someone else

when they start feeling under the weather

Now is 'count on'

It's C. When you can count on someone,

you know they'll be there for you when you need them

or if you ask for help, they'll do it.

And if you've given them a task or some responsibility,

they won't let you down.

That's actually another phrasal verb, (to) 'let down'

But it's quite the opposite of 'count on'

If you let someone down, you disappoint them

by not doing something that you've said that you'll do

or that you're expected to do.

Hang on, hang on!

We're talking about 'count on' here, not 'let down'

Okay let's try another, 'drop in on'.

Now if you drop in on someone are you...

or are you

The answer here is A and actually you might

hear this phrasal verb just used as 'drop in'.

And actually, 'call in' is used in a really similar way.

So 'drop in' or 'call in', they're quite informal activities

and they're sort of unexpected.

It's when you stop to visit someone without making

any plans first so they probably

don't know that you're coming.

All right, what about 'look up to'?

So is this..

is it..

or is it

Now this one can be tricky

but the answer B is correct and most often

it's used to talk about someone who you admire

or who you wish you could be like.

What about to 'turn up'?

So is this..

unexpectedly?

Or is it

or is it

Well we're not talking about the verb 'to turn',

and we're not talking about changing the volume either.

Although that is another correct way to use

this phrasal verb, you can 'turn up' the music.

But in these options, A a is correct.

To 'call off'.

Now is that..

or is it

or is it

C is the correct answer.

We're not using a phone, we're not calling anyone.

We're calling off something.

So in other words, we're canceling that thing.

To 'give in'

Now does this mean

or does it mean

or does it mean

Answer A is the right one!

Sometimes you just have to admit defeat, right?

Maybe you give in and accept that you were wrong

or because no one else agrees with you

or because it's too difficult to keep fighting.

In all of those situations, you might give in.

To 'fill someone in'

So does this mean

Does it mean

or does it mean

The answer is B.

So for example,

Give me the information.

This one's a really useful one!

To 'hold back'.

So does that mean

or

or is it

Now answer B is correct.

You can also use 'hold back' to talk about

physically holding something back

but that wasn't an option here.

In this case, we're talking about not doing something

that you wanted to do, usually because you're scared

or worried or because you know that you shouldn't.

Okay, to 'drop off'. So does that mean

or

C is the correct answer.

Okay so the last two might sound the same

but they're actually totally different okay?

So does 'work out' mean

or

This one has nothing to do with your job, right?

Answer A is correct.

We work out by going to the gym, going for a run

or doing any kind of sport for the purpose of

losing weight or staying healthy or getting stronger.

Now some people love working out, right?

And I have a love/hate relationship with the gym.

The main reason that I go is so that I can enjoy

eating whatever I want.

I mean that's the whole point of the gym, isn't it?

But what about to 'work (something) out'?

Does that mean

Or does it mean

Or does it mean

Now I'm trying to trick you here! Even though 'work out'

is to exercise, to 'work something out' or to 'work out

something' has a completely different meaning.

So answer B is the correct one.

You can use 'work out something' or

'work something out' when you're solving a problem

or you're discovering how to fix something.

So tell me, how did you go?

Did you get many of those phrasal verbs correct?

If you did, high fives, that's awesome!

But even if you got a few of them wrong, well,

it's not all bad news because you've just learnt

a bunch of new ones, right?

In fact, if you did get a couple wrong,

I want you to use them in a sentence

in the comments below this video.

That will really help the meaning of these phrasal verbs

to sink in.

Oh man, I could keep going with phrasal verbs forever!

And if this quiz made you realise that you'd like to

keep practising with me,

Arsenal news: Unai Emery hits out at Arsene Wenger, reveals one major change he made - Duration: 2:48.

Emery replaced Wenger at Arsenal after the Frenchman's 22 illustrious years in north London

During his time at Arsenal, Wenger won three Premier League titles - including the Invincibles season in 2003/04 - as well as lifting the FA Cup seven times

Emery has impressed during his short time with the Gunners, with Arsenal currently fifth in the Premier League, just four points behind Chelsea in third

And Emery has opened up on life after Wenger, criticising the Frenchman for neglecting his defensive tactics in recent years

"Before Wenger came, Arsenal celebrated 1-0 and were based on defensive solidity," he told Spanish newspaper Marca

"With Arsene, joy came from attacking, with players of good standing. And the perfect combination was the Invincibles

"But over time, only technical quality and offensive freedom were taken care of, losing the defensive structure

"What I want is to unite both essences and be more competitive. Arsenal was in decline

We had to stop it and start climbing." Emery had successful spells with Sevilla and PSG before taking over at Arsenal

The Spaniard's success in the Europa League, where he won the competition three times with Sevilla, was also key in him landing the Arsenal job

And Emery has revealed he never asked Wenger for advice heading into his new role in the Premier League

When asked if he'd spoken to Wenger following his appointment, Emery added: "Not about the team

I met once with him, and little else. "I respect him a lot, but no matter how much info he gave me, I had to change things

"I told the players: 'We started at kilometre zero'. "Even now, four months later, I still say it: 'We are in the beginning!'" Arsenal are back in action on Sunday afternoon, with Emery's men facing Bournemouth in the Premier League

You Want to Learn About Tag Questions, Don't You? - Duration: 6:28.

Have you ever been in a conversation and wanted to check your understanding?

That is the time to use a tag question in English.

A tag question is a short question added to a statement.

The tag includes a pronoun and its matching form of the verb be, or auxiliary verb.

If the tag question is negative, we shorten the phrase, or use a contraction with the

auxiliary verb.

Here's an example: I was visiting a friend and saw a photo on

the wall.

I said, "That's a picture of your grandson, isn't

it?"

My friend answered, "Yes, it is.

That picture is from when he was two.

He's a lot taller now."

In the example, I wanted to confirm something I thought was true.

So I started with a positive statement, "That's a picture of your grandson" then I added a

negative tag question: "isn't it?"

My friend said I was right - the picture was of his grandson.

English speakers use tag questions to encourage a listener to respond.

You will often hear teachers using tag questions: "You remember the history lesson from last

week, don't you?"

Some language researchers say that men use tag questions more often than women.

They think it might show that men have more power in the conversation, and use tags to

ask for information or agreement.

Others say women use a certain kind of tag questions to make the conversation run more

smoothly.

Whatever your gender, when you use a tag question you expect an answer.

The form of that answer depends on the type of tag question.

Let's look at the two types of tag questions.

We'll talk first about tag questions that follow a positive statement with the verb

be.

They use a reduced form, or contraction.

Make the tag question with a form of the verb be combined with the negative not and the

pronoun.

The verb be has to match the number and person of the pronoun.

Take a look at these examples: They are walking to school, aren't they?

She is taking the bus, isn't she?

I am supposed to be sitting here, aren't I?

You're the math teacher, aren't you?

In these examples, you reverse the order of the pronoun and verb in the tag question.

"They are" becomes "aren't they?" and "She is" becomes "isn't she?"

If the statement uses another verb instead of be, the tag question uses an auxiliary

verb such as do or have.

For example, in the song A Little Time the singing duo Beautiful South ask the question,

You need a little room for your big head, Don't you, don't you?

and Your face has been looking like that for hours

Hasn't it, hasn't it?

If you ask a negative tag question you expect a positive answer.

Question: It's raining out, isn't it?

Expected answer: Yes, it is.

Now let's look at tag questions that follow a negative statement.

These are in the affirmative.

You can use this to confirm that what you are thinking is true, and you expect a negative

answer.

Question: You don't eat all the cake, do you?

Expected answer: No, I don't.

Negative sentences with positive tag questions are not as frequent as our first type.

They use the same form, with reversed word order.

Tag questions are an example of a big difference between British and American English.

Language researchers using computer data found that British English speakers used tag questions

nine times as often as American English speakers!

In Understanding and Using English Grammar, Betty Azar says that the intonation(change

in pitch) shows the purpose of a tag question.

If the speaker is trying to confirm information, the tone rises:

Adam works at VOA, doesn't he?

Speakers saying something that they are almost certain the listener will agree with use a

falling intonation.

It's a nice day, isn't it?

We leave you with a famous line from Carly Simon, in the song You're So Vain:

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you

You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you

Don't you?

don't you?

For VOA Learning English, I'm Jill Robbins.

And I'm Jim Tedder.
