Build Change | Dr. Elizabeth Hausler | Skoll Award 2017 - Duration: 4:54.

I was shocked by so many people being killed in earthquakes in emerging nations.

It was the 2001 earthquake in Gujarat in Kutch, India, that really got my attention.

In this event about 20,000 people were killed,

and most people were killed because their stone masonry house collapsed on them.

It's not the earthquake that kills people, it's a poorly built building,

and this is a man-made problem, so there must be a man-made or a woman-made solution.

Build Change is a social enterprise that saves lives by working with people in emerging nations,

to build houses and schools, so they don't collapse in earthquakes and typhoons.

This model is different from the previous one,

because in the previous we used that 2 MM plate which we didn't get locally. So, we…

First off, we work with governments to develop building standards.

And what about the post bases this time?

Yes, we have a strap coming out of the…

There's a gap in building code enforcement in most of the emerging world,

especially for housing and schools.

So, the governments may not have the capacity or the budget, or the personnel,

or the vehicles to go out and inspect buildings as they're being built.

We're working to fill that gap; doing things like simplifying the building code enforcement,

so it doesn't take as long for a building inspector to inspect a building;

using information technology tools, using apps so that the process is more streamlined.

We also provide access to financing.

So it's important, especially after a disaster,

that a homeowner has access to a grant or a loan to rebuild safely.

And usually that's conditional and used as an incentive for people to build safely.

Introducing the three "C's" of construction.

The first "C" is Configuration.

Then we have Connection, and then, the third is Construction Quality.

Second, we build capacity; we train everyone in the construction sector:

builders, engineers, building materials producers,

so that the entire construction industry can elevate its quality.

A system like this can resist earthquakes well...

We also do large-scale information campaigns:

radio ads, billboards, informing the general public on the basics of safe construction.

What simple steps can they take in order to build a disaster resistant building?

The connection beam… the beam and column was like this; and during the shaking it will go like this.

And we have to teach them that the connection should be like this.

In many cases, we didn't even know how to properly dig the foundations.

Because of these new techniques, we got a chance to improve so many aspects of construction.

We've helped to shift the industry so that the home owner can make the decisions:

where is their window, where is their toilet, where is their door, what builder do they use.

The home owner drives the process.

Understanding the lifestyle, understanding their needs is very important.

For example, for a Nepali household a porch is a very important space.

So, all our designs incorporate a porch in front of the house.

That's a space where they socialize, that's like kind of a living room area.

I feel that my home is very strong.

I feel like it's not going to collapse, or be destroyed now.

I am feeling very happy.

We have trained over 25,000 people globally in the basics of safe construction,

and we have created nearly 11,000 jobs.

When the home owner is in the driver's seat,

we are building their confidence that the home will keep them safe.

And that's the most important thing after disaster.

That's what enables them to sleep at night and to get back to a normal life.

I've been working in film for over 50 years.

30 of those have been in Spain.

A country which has not only taken me in,

but has awarded me with a Goya in the late 80s.

I'm a liar, an illusionist,

a cinematographic wizard.

You'd think that most films with special effects

have been created in Hollywood.

However many of them been produced

in places like Colmenar Viejo or Fuenlabrada.

I worked with Stanley Kubrick in '2001',

and then again in 'The Shining'.

I also had the amazing opportunity

to work with Ridley Scott in 'Alien'.

One day I received a script

full of fantasy titled 'The Neverending Story'.

The inspiration behind the character of Falcor

was my childhood pet, my dog Tessa.

In 1987 I decided to officially move to Spain.

I created 'The Dream Factory',

my own Special Effects studio in Madrid.

The biggest gift this country has given me

as a foreigner has been the ability to work

with total creative freedom on big productions

like 'Hable con Ella'  by Almodóvar,

or 'Abre los Ojos'  by Alejandro Amenábar.

Don't forget,

our dreams and imaginations

can be closer to home than we think.

We never chose where we're born,

but we do chose where we

grow and fulfill our dreams.

Dan Lerner: What Does Excellence Mean To You? - Duration: 1:23.

What does excellence mean to you?

What does success mean to you?

There are a couple of ways to look at excellence and expertise.

One is from strictly a technical perspective.

That is: what are the things you have to do on a regular basis to improve.

How are you developing your brain to be an excellent chess player?

To be an excellent salesperson?

To be an excellent basketball player?

To be an excellent violinist?

To be an excellent father, or mother, or sister, or brother?

What are we aspiring to do?

It doesn't come like *that* no matter how badly we want it.

It always takes time.

But if we're talking about excellence, one of the questions I ask is, what does excellence

mean to you?

What does success mean to you?

What is it that's special about you, what are some of the character strengths for instance

that you bring to the table?

Are you brave?

Are you particularly kind?

Are you particularly wise?

Do you value humor?

And so we start talking about those strengths, and then we take the technical and marry it

to those things that make us human beings, and they allow us to transcend and realize

individual potential.

GOT7 THEORY ✈ Fly, Hard Carry & Never Ever - Duration: 12:39.

Hey! You asked us to make a video with GOT7 theories

so we decided to do it

So now I'm gonna talk about the hidden theories in GOT7 videos

Of course, the videos that have the theories and symbolical plot

so the Flight Log serie

Let's start!

We'll start with Flight Log: Departure

It's the beginning of the theories

Of course, there are many theories on the Internet

But I'll try to make them one theory

and to tell you things which make sense for me and also what I noticed

Let's start from the beginning

In the very beginning, we can see a blue bird in a car, a van

It's sitting above the driver's head, in this case - JB's head

Then we see GOT7 having fun and drawing on BamBam's face

A small pillow fight... And, of course, all of this is being recorded by Jackson

Junior looks through the window and we can see a blue bird on it

Somehow it seems really important

He falls asleep

Then we see him in a fog, looking for something or someone

And the first thing that comes into our minds is a car crash

But there is also a question...

Is everyone dead?

Is he the only one who died?

Is he the only one who survived?

Or maybe he's in coma

Junior wakes up in a room and the whole GOT7 is there as well

But they seem not to notice him

Even when they record something

They just don't see him

And we have another question

Is Junior a ghost?

Or is GOT7 only a memory?

We see JB with a blue bird again

What's interesting, the blue birds symbolize happiness

But they are also a symbol of heavenly life

and they can be an incarnation of an Angel who was sent for us from Heaven

But when Junior looks in the mirror,

he cannot see boys' reflection

He wakes up and it looks like it was only a dream

But I don't believe it because it would be too simple

But we'll talk about it later

Everyone starts to fly and it can mean that they become Angels because they died

What's more, watchful eye sees more and I noticed some creatures drawn on the ground

In a very childish way but if we look closely, we can think of a way of signing the place where the dead body was lying

But the more I look at it, the more I think it's just a writing

But one of those drawings looks like a person

JB hovers above the bed

Surrounded by books and white birds

White birds symbolize the same thing as the blue ones

Moreover, they seem to have a lot of fun because they are able to fly

And weird things start to happen

At the end of the video, we see that Junior also wants to fly and he jumps of the roof

Or rather he falls from it

And we cannot see whether he can fly or not

Because the video ends

'Fly' is an MV mostly focused on choreography

But we should also pay attention to some important facts

The first one is Junior falling

He sees only 5 members flying

And only 5 of them

So the second thing is the question - Where is Jackson?

It's possible that he survived

He is fine so he doesn't fly

3rd thing - we see scenes we already seen in Flight Log: Departure

4th thing - Junior shed one tear before he woke up

But it's time for some theories!

As I mentioned before, there was a car crash and it something that seems somehow true

Second of all - someone had to die

In this case, I think it was GOT7

And only Junior survived

But he is the only one who cannot 'depart' which directly relates to the tittle

JB is not on the ground and he also cannot fly freely

So it can relate to the fact that he's in a coma

Junior is broken after loosing his friends

So he also tries to 'fly'

But all he can do is to fall

Suicide is an unforgivable sin

so Junior can't join his friends in Heaven

Now we'll talk about Flight Log: Turbulence and we see GOT7 in a plane

The scene seems similar to the one that happened in a car

So they have fun, draw on BamBam's face and have a pillow fight

The alarm is on because of the turbulences and the passengers are supposed to fasten their seatbelts

Junior wants to get up and warn his friends

But a flight attendant approaches him and stops him from doing it

So he just sits and fastens his seatbelt

The turbulences are really strong and suddenly we can see Junior in water

in a kind of container and he cannot escape

Again, we see some scenes from the previous videos - the blue bird and also JB trapped between Earth and Heaven

A flight attendant holds an oxygen mask for Junior

It can mean that she is not a flight attendant

She's a doctor or a medical rescuer

and all of this happens in his mind

Junior sees his friends flying away and when he closes his eyes...

We are finally sure that it was a car accident

We see a medical rescuer giving oxygen to Junior

He gives him the mask

Junior wakes up, looks around and sees the place where the car accident happened

a write-off and also a video camera which recorded the last minutes of GOT7's life

Now I'll talk about Hard Carry

Of course, there must be a video that makes everyone confused

and suddenly everyone says that nothing happened, nobody died, everyone is alive

But I will focus on my thoughts and theory

The whole video starts at the accident's place, there is a write-off

We couldn't get a better proof that it was a car accident

There is also a plane and an ambulance

But this plane was only Junior's imagination

JB's scene is filled with thuyas and for me those green conifers can symbolize life

And it's JB who is trapped between life and death

It can mean that he's still alive

Junior suddenly flies up however...

he is abruptly brought back to the ground

And it can mean regain consciousness

The MV is full of choreography

But there are also some scenes which are a but shaken

We can think about single heart beats

or about using the respirator

We see JB with thuyas again but they are withered. Moreover, we see him behind some kind of fence

It can mean that his life faded away, just like the life in thuyas

And he can't escape

Maybe he is dead

He comes closer, opens the gate and walks out

It's possible that he just left and went to Heaven

We see a scene with Youngjae with living conifers

And we also see a cage with a blue bird

If this blue bird is an Angel and it doesn't want to come to Youngjae,

it can mean that he's a sinner

A bird in a cage symbolize trapped soul

But he just takes the bird by himself

The choreography's background is a aircraft wreckage

which was Junior imagination or Jinyoung's imaginations, however you prefer to call him

I'm a person who usually prefers the first option

But back to the topic - we see an aircraft wreckage

If we talk about dreams

A dreams about the air crash

It can symbolize colliding with the reality

especially if you live in a dreamworld

But it can also mean a low self-esteem and doubts

We see our main character again in a water container

He wants to commit suicide, he wants to drown and join his friends, he wants to fly

But Youngjae appears next to him with a hammer and he breaks the glass; he doesn't allow him to die

We also see the rest of GOT7 in water trying to save Junior

Let's get to the Flight Log: Arrival because it's a video full of emotions

and pain and it tells us what really happened

There is also a narration of Junior

He tells us what happened, what he did and why

Jinyoung wakes up at the shore and all he can remember is being in water

He was in water. He also says that he failed and he couldn't do it

He failed to fly like his friends

It means that he tried to kill himself but, as I already mentioned before,

his friends are now his guardian angels and they don't allow him to commit suicide

Junior says that people usually give up when they can't do something

But he is different

He will never ever give up

And we can understand it in 2 different ways

1st - he won't give up and he will try to fly

2nd - he won't give up in an opposite way

He will live because it's what his friends want him to do

And he will find a new life goal

He opens his eyes and we see a white room

We also see the doctors trying to save him and using the respirator

And they succeed

Junior comes back to life

And he won't give up

Never Ever MV is an addition to what we saw earlier

In all the Flight Log videos and MVs

We see that it was a car addicent

We also see some plants in the car which symbolize life

The car accident happens at the same time as Jackson runs

Jackson running and hitting the wall

symbolize the tragical car addicent

The car falls into the water and drowns

We see JB under the water and it makes sense somehow because it was a car addicent so he should have died

But on the other way we have a theory that he's in a coma

And I'm a fan of this theory

So it doesn't really explain anything

Jinyoung is in a container again but this time with plants

It means that he's still alive

But he is in a container, he cannot escape

Without help - he will die

The container is being filled with water and Junior is close to death

Youngjae with a hammer appears again and he breaks the glass

And he helps him

It can mean that he also helped him in the car so he could survive

Also Mark appears in the water and helps Junior

Of course, Mark's role finished when Junior is safe

Yugyeom appears in a hospital

and BamBam has an oxygen mask

We can come into one conclusion -

GOT7 members keep Junior alive

so he never ever gives up

He finds again his will and a new life goal

so he won't walk away

There are many theories that say that GOT7 members saved Jinyoung during the car accident

And we can find a proof for that in this MV

The last scene is familar for us because we already saw it in a previous video

Junior wakes up in a hospital, saved by the doctors

It's all for the GOT7 MVs theories

I hope you liked it and it was what you expected me to tell you

And that everything seems more clear and understandable

I like those MVs even more after watching them again and again and finding out that many things happened there

It's normal that we usually don't see things after watching an MV for the first time

If you have some MVs or a serie of MVs which I can analyse,

(because it's so much fun)

I'm waiting for you suggestions under this video

And if there is anything I didn't notice or you have your own theories, I'm also waiting for your comments!

See you next time!

Interview with CEO Rolf Habben Jansen | Hapag-Lloyd - Duration: 2:36.

Hapag-Lloyd finished its fiscal year 2016 better than many other competitors.

Joining me now is Rolf Habben Jansen, the CEO of Hapag-Lloyd.

Are you happy with the results?

Well, in the end, I think if you compare our results with many of our competitors our results is reasonable.

But on the other hand, in the end, it's still a loss so from that perspective it's not totally satisfactory.

What do you expect of supply and demand this year?

Well, supply and demand are starting to get closer together, because we see barely no new orders.

We see increased scrapping and there is also a fair amount of ships still being laid up.

So it is getting closer together but it will us still take a little of time before it's really in balance.

What else are the main topics in 2017?

That's difficult to say. I mean 2017 has been off to a good start, suddenly volume-wise.

And now we need to see whether the market recovers further.

There are suddenly some encouraging signs. But we'll have to see.

We have to work hard like every year, continue to work on cost, take care of the customers and then hopefully

we'll see a better 2017 than we saw in 2016.

The oil price has risen – what does it mean for your business?

Well, for our business it means that cost goes up, which especially in the beginning is always a bit of a challenge

because it takes some time before you can pass that on to the customer.

In general, I think to have an oil price that is not too low is actually good for our business

because it also prevents people from doing irrational things.

What are the advantages of the merger between Hapag-Lloyd and the Arabian shipping company UASC?

For us it brings a couple of things: It gives us access to the market in the Middle East.

It allows us to reach again a fair amount of synergies, definitely over 400 million dollars.

It gives us a better fleet because the fleets of both companies are very complementary.

And it also further strengthens our shareholder base

because we get two additional strong shareholders of Hapag-Lloyd.

There is a lot going on in your industry.

There are still smaller and midsized shipping companies

– do you expect more takeovers or bankruptcies in the near future?

We've seen a lot of activity over the last 12 months.

So it's difficult to see much more in the upcoming couple of quarters.

But I do think that there is going to be further consolidation.

But I doubt whether it's going to be in 2017. Probably a little bit later than that.

Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, thank you very much for the interview and thank you for watching.

Bones, just take the brain, OK, put it in neutral.

All right?

Take the heart, pop it in overdrive.

[revs like a car]

Sometimes I think you're from another planet.

I don't know what that means.

I don't understand.

I'm a genius, and I'm confused.

NASA Astronaut "Why I Know Aliens Haven't Visited Earth" - Duration: 3:19.

NASA Astronaut Why I Know Aliens Havent Visited Earth

One of the few NASA astronauts to have ever walked on the moon believes that aliens have

never visited Earth because, if they had, humans would have benefited from their superior

technology and knowledge.

According to former astronaut Alan Bean, if aliens had paid us a visit then we would already

have a cure for cancer by now.

I do not believe that anyone from outer space has ever visited the Earth, Mr Bean

said from his home in Houston, Texas.

One of reasons I dont believe they have been here is that civilisations that are more

advanced are more altruistic and friendly like Earth, which is better than it used

to be.

So they would have landed and said, We come in peace and we know from our studies

you have cancer that kills people.

Weve solved that problem 50 years ago, heres the gadget we put on a persons

chest that will cure it we will show you how to make it.

Just like some day, say 1,000 years from now, when we can go to another star and see

a planet, we will know how to cure cancer, cure birth defects, so we would teach them.

News.com.au reports:

Mr Bean doesnt doubt for a second that we are not alone.

Theres so many billions of stars and these stars have planets around them so there

must be statistically many planets around many stars that have formed life, he said.

Maybe some of them are like our life was 100,000 years ago, and some of them are like

we are now, and there are probably some out there that are a 10,000 years in the future

from where we are now.

Mr Bean resigned from NASA in 1981 to become an artist. In his paintings he depicts the

experiences of astronauts, including himself, who have walked on the moon. Its a small

club but its also one that he draws never-ending inspiration from.

Even if I lived to 185 years old I wouldnt run out of ideas of things to paint on this

topic, he said.

He uses textured and lunar tools, sprinkled with bits of Apollo spacecraft and a touch

of moon dust to create his masterpieces, which sell for tens or hundreds of thousands

of US dollars each via his website.

Im the only person on Earth who can do these paintings (from a first hand perspective),

he said.

I work seven days a week painting

to this day.

Robin Bengtsson - I Can't Go On (Sweden) ILLUMINATI? (Russian's REACTION) - Duration: 6:50.

Hi everyone! It's RAMusic again! And I'm still

listening to Eurovision songs you recommended!

I'm curious to know what they have prepared! I don't know who's leading

I didn't hear any songs

I don't know the performances, Ionly heard our contestant

and the contestants I made reactions for

Today I decided to watch Sweden since you've all been asking!

I downloaded it) Robin Bengtsson - I Can't Go On

I know a little bit about Sweden. It's the most competitive country of them all I would say

The won many times. They even have a special National Contest - Melodifestivalen.

They're extremely serious about Eurovision. It's like a celebration there!

And the format is similar: they have judges votes,

viewers votes. Everything is divided in parts

I know Loreen applied this year too with the song "Statements"

At first I wanted to make a review for it, but

then realized that it's more of the same Loreen we know

So I'm not surprised with Robin's win.

Because Loreen was the same Loreen we saw. The performance was relying on the same things as couple of years ago etc.

And I didn't think it'll be a success this year

And many fans were obsessed with Måns Zelmerlöw, as you know

He was competing for Sweden couple of years ago and WON

So this year we again have a young man performing

When Eurovision was in Sweden, Måns Zelmerlöw also was a host

with a beautiful funny lady whose name I don't remember! That was a great year

So it's not a surprise today why Eurovision fans are obsessed with Sweden now

Because they're excited, hopeful and always in a great mood! :)

So, Robin, let's go!

So as I understood, that's not a music video but a final National performance from Melodifestivalen!

So many people!

God..Why you gotta choose the handsome one!?))

Robin can't stop staring at the camera))

That music is familiar...

Yeah, the signature pre-chorus break)

Those basic lyrics though...-___-

Sounds veeeery Timberlake-ish!

Robin, stop staring, don't forget to sing, we see you!)))

omg I once bought me Solotica contacts (grey ones), his eyes are natural of course

Everyone thought I wore them for fun or because I was stupid, but now you know why, looking at my glasses)

The dancers are trying to catch the attention but undertstand who's the real star)

What's that? Illuminati? O_O

Sweden almost got all the girls' votes)

okay-okay I get it, I get it

What does THAT mean?!

And then this happened...

My camera turned off in the middle of the video...

in the middle of my reaction..

No worries, you didn't miss much. There's was another chorus I guess and that's it)

So lets talk about the song!

Sweden KNOWS the shit!

This is the example of the song which...

has a potential to win Eurovision I think

You see a handsome performer

Girs' hears are melting looking at his eyes,

Guys are jealous

some make fun of his shiny teeth

but that's not the point

You realize that you didn't understand what song is abour

who is he singing it to

that you don't get the point of it!

BUT! You remember it

You know the chorus

you can sing it!

You don't understand all this treadmil dance

Why the fuck he uses that sign or whatever!

But you liked the song!

Eurovision is all about first impression!

There's ony a couple of days to like the song

and there are SO mane songs

So the catchiest usually wins

And this one is quite catchy, isn't it?

you don't know why, the lyrics are basic,

pretty simple lyrics even in the verses

So I think it has a huge chance to win, the song is short and catchy,

everything's OK for Sweden I believe

How do YOU like the Sweden entry this year?

They chose very interesting candidates

I really like Carola once, she's the one who already won but was chosen again the Year Dima Bilan sang "Never Let You Go"

She performed REALLY well and had a really strong voice!

I remember her because she has the same piercing grey eyes as Robin)

*Look how she's "eating" the air during a riff* :)

Very beautiful woman!

So that's it, Sweden didn't disappoint!

I'm pretty sure we can expect Måns Zelmerlöw during the voting))

you will see him again, don't worry)

So thank you everyone! Have a great day, thanks again for suggesting me to watch Sweden

See you in a new reaction video, bye-bye! :)

Suspended Shaker Birthday Card - Duration: 12:24.

- [Kristina] Hi everyone, Kristina here.

Welcome to another card video

at my YouTube channel and blog.

Today I'm going to be using two stamps

that's from Mama Elephant

and the first one that I'm going to be using

is called Party Animals.

I'm going to be stamping a bunch of these images

and then coloring them with copic markers.

I've had quite a few requests at Facebook

to bring back the copic markers.

So I thought that would be fun for this card.

So I'm stamping the images in Memento Tuxedo Black ink

and I'm using a Misti tool to help me with that stamping

to make sure that I get a nice even impression.

And I'm going to use my heat tool

just to speed up the drying of this ink

just because sometimes Memento ink can sometimes smear

if it's not completely dry.

I don't always heat set that or anything like that

but this time I decided to

because I had stamped a bunch of images

and I was going straight into the coloring right away.

So like I said before, I'm using some copic markers for this

and if you are new to my YouTube channel

or you haven't seen copic marker coloring before

there are a few things you have to remember

if you're going to use copic markers.

And the thing,

there are two main things you have to remember,

your paper and your ink.

Those will greatly affect the effectiveness of your markers

and the results you receive.

My favorites of those to use

are Neenah solar White 80 pound card stock

which is what I'm using today, and then also

Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

I also have used Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink

and that one works well also.

So those are the things you have to remember.

You have to use a copic-friendly paper

and also a copic-friendly ink.

Otherwise you're going to have less than stellar results.

So I'm using a really, really simple coloring technique.

Basically the center of each shape or object

is lighter than the edges.

So I'm just darkening the edges of everything

and keeping the center very light and bright

and that's a really easy way to do copic coloring

especially on simple images like this.

So I'm just coloring all these little images.

I kept the bunnies all the same color,

I thought that would be really nice

and then bringing in some other pops of color

with pink and purple and yellow and green

then a little bit of orange as well.

So after I had all of these images colored

I used the coordinating die set

and I just use a little bit of blue painter's tape

to hold those in place

while I put them through my Big Shot machine

and then I had all my images cut out.

So I'm gonna use some heat-resistant acetate today.

I'm going to be creating a shaker card

and I thought the acetate on the shaker card

would look really cool if it was heat embossed

with the greeting.

So I've cut out some circles using my Nested Circles dies

from Simon Says Stamp.

I've used the larger circle

to cut out two pieces of white card stock

as well as that acetate.

And then I used a slightly smaller circle

and I cut that out and now I'm using the large circle

that I used before and I'm going to cut out

the outer edge around that circle that I cut.

This is going to create a frame.

And I'll be using that frame on the very front of my card.

So now I'm back to that circle of acetate

and like I said before this is heat-resistant acetate.

So I'm able to do some heat embossing on top of it.

And one way to cut down on any static cling

is to spray the acetate and kinda wipe it clean

with a dry cloth and then you can go in

and prepare for your stamping.

So I did use that white frame just so I'd be able to see

exactly where I needed to have this stamped image

and I placed it in my Misti tool

and I really coated that acetate

with lots and lots of powder.

You really, like I've discovered since I've been using

this heat-resistant acetate that that is the only way

to get awesome results.

You have to really coat that with powder

and it's really gonna cut down on any embossing powder

sticking to areas where you don't want it to.

So I've inked up my stamp with some VersaMark ink

and I'm pulling the door of the Misti over

and stamping that down.

I'm gonna pull the door back up

and it's gonna pull that acetate with it

which is just fine.

It's just stuck to the stamp

and then I can peel that off really carefully.

At this point I need to apply some white embossing powder.

This is embossing powder from Hero Arts

and when I first saw this I got a little nervous.

I'm like, "Oh no, all of my powder didn't work."

But then when you tap it off

on the back of the acetate really well

all of that powder comes off of the areas

where it's not supposed to be.

It just needs a little extra nudge to kind of shake off.

So I'm going to use my heat tool

to melt this embossing powder

and I'm just moving that over the acetate rather quickly.

It melts faster than it does on paper oddly.

I wasn't expecting that but it does melt

a little bit faster.

So now I'm gonna work on the background

that's gonna go behind

all of those stamped and colored images.

So I'm gonna use some different colors of Distress Ink.

I have Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves,

Mustard Seed, and Peacock Feathers.

And I'm going to do a really simple

kind of watercolor background

with some water droplet resist, things like that.

So I'm gonna start out with Picked Raspberry.

And I'm just gonna pick that up with a paintbrush

and kinda transfer it over to my watercolor paper.

This watercolor paper that I'm using today

is from Strathmore.

This is their precut

five by seven Series 500 watercolor paper.

And it's a really nice kind of just everyday type of paper.

I tend to use it a lot because it's already cut down to size

so it's really convenient.

So I just dropped in some color and then I used my heat tool

to speed up that drying process.

And then I'm going to come in with a spray bottle of water.

This is a Distress sprayer.

Sprayed the palm of my hand

and then let the water droplets fall

onto the watercolor paper.

Picked that up with a paper towel

and it left behind white water droplets

and that's basically the background for my card.

Gonna dry it one more time

to make sure it's ready to move on with the next step.

So then I took that larger circle die once again

and I ran it through my die-cutting machine

and it sort of looks like a really colorful moon to me

at this point, but it's gonna actually be the background

of the card.

So I'm adhering the watercolor piece

to one of those larger white circles

and then I'm going to start

kind of putting my shaker card together.

So I needed to adhere the balloons to the hands

of the animals.

So one bunny has the star balloon

and then the little chick has the pink round balloon.

And I ended up not needing to use one of the bunnies

so I just set him aside.

So I'm using some arranger multimedia matte glue

on the white frame

and then I pressed my heat-embossed acetate

right over the top.

The frame actually goes on the outside of the card

so I wanted to make sure that the frame is adhered

to the front of the acetate.

I then took some foam tape and I cut it

so that it was a very narrow strip

and I took off the backing on it.

So there's no release paper on this foam right now

and that makes it so that it's bendable

and I can run it along the edge of this circle piece

without any problems.

So this is one layer of foam tape

and then I'm going to make my little images

be suspended in the card.

This is a suspended shaker card

and I actually saw Jennifer McGuire do this

for the first time many months ago

and I thought it was so fun and a really great way

to have images in your shaker card

and have them still move around

but have them stay right side up.

'Cause we don't want a bunny goin' upside down

or the balloon going in the wrong direction.

But by putting these little pieces

on some clear wire or clear string

you can suspend them inside your shaker card.

So I'm putting down some adhesive tape.

I'm having that tape run vertically

how I want these images to be in my shaker card.

And then I'm using some clear nylon string.

Big thank you to my friend Shanna

who cut off quite a generous portion of this string

and we wrapped it around a card.

So I cut off some strips of that string

and I pressed it down onto that adhesive

and then I put another piece of that adhesive tape

over the top so it's basically that string is sandwiched

in between those two strips of adhesive tape.

So I've done that to all three of those images

and then it was time to determine

exactly where they were being placed.

I didn't want them to be overlapping that greeting too much

so I had to kind of eyeball it and see

where they were gonna go.

So after they were basically in the place where I wanted

I pressed the string into the foam tape

on the top and bottom and I also left the string

with a little bit of give so that that image

could still move around just a little bit inside the shaker.

So I put the other two images in and made sure

that they weren't overlapping that greeting too much.

Just making sure those strings are in the right place.

And then I can take another layer of foam tape

and I'll be putting it over the top.

So it's basically sandwiching those strings

in between two layers of foam tape.

So those strings will very rarely come out

from underneath the foam tape.

There's enough adhesive there to really hold 'em in place.

So I cut off the extra string with my scissors

and then I had to put in my sequins

inside the actual shaker area.

So I'm using two different colors,

or two different sizes of sequins from Darice.

This is their iridescent or their crystal color.

And I used the five millimeter and eight millimeter

and then I took a few of these silver confetti disks

that are from Pretty Pink Posh.

I thought that kinda looked like birthday confetti.

Then placed my acetate piece over the top

and I very carefully

tried to get everything lined up just right

and then I pressed down all around the outside edge

of that circle.

So in order to make this an actual card that opens

I took that remaining white circle die cut

and I scored it at about half an inch

and then put some adhesive on that folded flap.

And this is going to create the actual card area

of this card.

So I'll put those two circle pieces together

and then I can press that folded flap

and then after that I have a card

that has an interior area that I can write a message inside.

So this is a really, really fun card.

I like how the pieces inside,

and I'm sorry if this is a little blurry,

but you can see how the little critters inside

move around just a little bit but for the most part

they stay upright and it's just the sequins

that are moving around.

Hope you guys enjoyed today's video.

I will be back again tomorrow

with another Letter Tuesday video.

Until then thank you so much for watching

and I will catch you guys in the next video.

Westworld and Disney World: Bespoke Tourism - Duration: 7:02.

Will Disney World ever end up being like Westworld?

I think the answer to that question will most likely be no, but I also think it's not

as crazy of a question as it sounds.

I suppose I can't start this without first explaining Westworld.

If you're old enough and have access to HBO, I cannot recommend this show enough.

It's only one season right now and it is perhaps my favorite television show to date.

Seriously, check it out.

In the show, Westworld is an experience for wealthy guests looking for a seemingly authentic

wild west adventure.

The park, which is absolutely massive, is largely inhabited by robots called

"hosts", that are virtually indiscernible from real people while also being completely

unaware that they're robots themselves.

This gives guests the freedom to indulge in all of their desires while at Westworld, from

lust to violence, without fear of repercussions or getting hurt.

All the while, they can set off on a number of adventures involving those hosts, adventures

that they're the main character of.

The world itself is as authentic as possible.

No cafeterias.

No air conditioning.

No fancy hotel rooms with cable TV.

As long as you're in Westworld, you're in the wild west.

It is, for all intents and purposes, a futuristic blending of video games, role-playing, and

theme parks.

It is also highly unlikely we'll ever see anything like it in our lifetime.

I mean, it's 2017 and we're impressed when we make a robot that doesn't fall over

when we kick it, which we do a lot apparently.

We're not going to have hosts like Dolores anytime soon.

So then why did I even ask that question?

How could Disney World ever be like Westworld when Westworld itself seems like a stretch?

Well you see, as much as the show highlights the scale of the world and the violence and

the adventures, that's not what I'm getting at.

What jumped out to me the most when I watched the show was just how custom tailored a Westworld

experience was for a guest.

When guests first arrive they're greeted by their own host who prepares them for their

time at the park, guiding them to a private changing area where guests can change into

a western outfit.

As one hosts puts it early on into the show, "everything is bespoke and exactly your size".

Think about that for a second.

An entire room filled with bespoke clothing for that guest, most of which will go entirely

unworn.

After getting outfitted for their adventure, they arrive in a starting town with the other

guests.

While not monitored constantly, guests are watched over and their adventures are sometimes

altered from up high, which makes the experience more unique for them.

What was most interesting to me though was how many new guests arrived with each train.

Each dropoff seemed to only contain a handful of people.

It makes sense if you think about it.

If there are more guests than hosts, than going on adventures and getting into shootouts

with hosts just becomes more difficult to do.

A park like that requires there to be far more hosts than guests.

So how can Westworld afford to stay open with all of this amazing technology and personally

catered experiences for just a small number of people?

It's super expensive, that's how.

Thanks to an interactive part of the Westworld website, we have an idea of what guests in

the show pay for their experience there.

A barebones one week trip to Westworld, the absolute minimum package you can get, runs

one adult $442,000.

That's over 63 thousand dollars per day.

A big step up from your average Disney vacation, which brings me to my point: Westworld is

a tourist destination that focuses on catered experiences for a small number of very wealthy

guests, instead of more standardized experiences for people of all income levels.

Can Disney World turn into that?

The initial answer that comes to mind is "of course not.

Disney World is meant for everyone."

which is true.

However it's worth noting that as of a few months ago your Disney vacation could have

very well also involved paying extra for the ability to switch theme parks mid-day with

a park hopper, paying $19 for a special bus to the Magic Kingdom to skip security, going

on a $200 VIP tour in order to skip ahead of lines for up to 10 attractions, taking

a break at your $650 a day cabana in Tomorrowland, and then paying $120 in order to enjoy the

park for a couple of extra hours in the evening after the park closes to the general public.

On top of that Disney has recently decided to adjust ticket prices to reflect the crowds

of the season and if you've really got the money to spend, you can even rent out entire parks.

It's also worth noting that while attendance has been down at Walt Disney World, revenue is up.

Fewer people, more money.

Now don't get me wrong.

I'm not trying to argue that Disney has gone the way of Westworld and only caters to the wealthy.

In fact, it's great to know that all of those paid add-ons are completely unnecessary

to have a good time at Disney World at the moment.

That said it's hard to ignore that Disney has recently taken a liking to introducing

more and more paid extras and paid events, which ultimately do offer a superior experience

for guests with the money to spend.

It's not a bad thing, so long as the base experience remains fun and accessible, but

it's got me wondering just how far Disney might go with the concept.

I highly doubt we'll ever see the day in which Disney World is a resort in which ONLY

the wealthy can enjoy it, but might we see a day in which these add-ons and events ultimately

lead to exclusive paid experiences within the resort that only the wealthy can enjoy?

The cabanas, to me, are the biggest indicator that suggests it's not a crazy question

to ask.

The cabanas were an experience that was EXCLUSIVE to those with a spare $650 laying around.

Now it wasn't a big deal because it was ultimately just a tent with some snacks and

chairs, but what's to stop Disney from expanding that idea to maybe an attraction that had

a separate fee, or maybe even a park?

Perhaps it wouldn't be in the form of a park with insanely high ticket prices, but

maybe all it would take to go down that road is excluding such a 5th gate from the normal

tickets and park hoppers.

We already saw something similar with Disney Quest.

Why wouldn't they be able to make the equivalent of a higher class Disney Quest?

Will the resort see a day in which there are significant attractions and parks that are

made for more wealthy guests?

Like I said at the top of the video, I think the answer is no, but the next time Disney

announces another paid extra, or another exclusive event that requires another ticket, ask yourself:

is the question really that crazy?

Why Song Translations Usually Suck - Duration: 4:25.

Today's guest video is a little different from normal,

so be prepared for music, emoji and being told you're hot,

as Alex from Play the Mind takes on song translations.

Alex, take it away.

♫ Give your heart and soul to me

♫ and life will always be

♫ La Vie En Rose. ♫

You just heard a contrafactum.

That's when the lyrics of the song are changed, but the music stays the same.

Parody songs are a good example of contrafactum and so are song translations.

But as opposed to parodies, song translations give the false impression

of remaining faithful to the original.

For instance,

what I just sang is part of the English version of the French song

La Vie En Rose by Edith Piaf.

The French lyrics of what I sang are,

"Et dès que je l'aperçois alors je sens en moi, mon cœur qui bat."

The meaning of these words has nothing to do with what I just sang.

As a matter of fact, the whole English version ends up becoming short, bilingual,

gender-neutral and sung directly to the loved one,

which are characteristics not present in the original French version.

And this song isn't the only case where this happens.

When dealing with any song translation,

there's a conflict between the meaning of the lyrics and the way they sound when spoken.

If you were to translate a song purely based on meaning,

you would end up having lyrics with beats following on syllables,

which naturally don't RE-ceive an ac-CENT when spo-KEN.

So, somewhere, you need to sacrifice some meaning in order to preserve good sound.

And who's to blame for making song translations so darn complicated?

It's phonology.

The phonology of a language is like its musical DNA

and it has a primordial influence

on how the melody of a song gets written in a certain language.

Even the particular way a baby cries has to do with how its mother speaks.

There are two things to consider in phonology.

The phonemes are the vowels and consonants that make up speech

and the prosody of a language is the way the phonemes are put together

into syllables, words and sentences and their intonation

in order to convey meaning.

It's the prosody of English that makes the difference between saying,

"Hey, you're HOT," and saying, "Hey. YOU'RE hot."

But, back to music.

It's the phonological system of a language

which shapes the melody of a song originally written in that language.

And when translating that song into a language

with a completely different phonological system,

something ends up sounding bad.

For instance, some languages, like Hindi or Italian,

are more favourable to melismatic singing,

where you have multiple notes sung over just a few vowels.

Here's an example in English:

♫ If I...

♫ should stay... ♫

That was Whitney Houston.

And other languages, such as German or Polish,

are more favourable to syllabic singing,

where you have one note per syllable.

♫ Freude schöner Götterfunken

♫ Tochter aus Elysium! ♫

That was Ludwig Van.

Gesundheit!

Therein lies the crux of the matter.

Setting the text of a syllabic language to a melismatic song

or vice-versa, sounds forced, artificial.

I'm fully aware that no language is purely syllabic or purely melismatic,

but I am emphasising these extremes in order to drive my point home.

A song translation can either sound good, but be inaccurate in meaning,

or it can be accurate, but sound bad.

Take your pick.

But, how important are song translations nowadays?

Well, think of this.

Roughly 80 million people speak Korean worldwide, yet to this day,

the video on YouTube with most views is the Korean song 'Gangnam Style'

with more than 2.5 billion views.

This means most of the audience probably didn't understand a word that was being sung.

Go subscribe to Play the Mind for all sorts of videos about music theory and acoustics,

including one about the very first mic drop.

Next time, in the last guest video of the run,

we have something in the ever-popular genre of

"that thing you're eating isn't what you think it is".

See you then.

Fast and easy make-over with Annie Sloan's chalk paint - Duration: 5:19.

From this

To this

In just a few hours!

Ehh, yes! Now I stand here with two

painted small bedside table instead

It's so damn fun that you can

just flap on the paint this way and

get a super fancy surface because of

that...

It really suits me!

To smack the paint on now took me about 30 minutes

so now I'll just let it dry

and one can almost see here how it begins to dry already

on both of these ...

The first -ofcourse- has dried a bit more

than the other

But yes, now we'll just let this dry and

Then let's move on!

There you go!

Now it's been about an hour

and as you can see, it is

patchy wet paint

so it is not completely dry

I'll grind on some edges and stuff

while the final paint is drying and

then I'll just seal the paint

and then it is finished!

Now I have worked about 1.5 hours with these

Thus, half an hour painting and one hour drying time

so ... well ...

Now then, the wax has stood and

dry for 1.5 hours

or something like that and it does not color of

but it is not absolutely, totally, completely dry

so I have to be careful now that I put things on these

You can put things on it and

it does not smell no more (wax)

at all,

it's like no problem, you can touch it

but you can feel a little that it is not completely dry yet

But, as I said,

as long as I'm careful with this now, I can

put it back in, then clean up

and clean my spot here

So, this project has thus taken me

WITH DRYINGTIME (!), This has taken me

2.5 ... about 3 hours!

To be finished by my bedside table!

Uh, and I think that's quite ok!

It's a bit like ... well, I'll have a party

at home so I ...

want to get my home a bit fancy, so I

take the opportunity to remake a piece furniture

There, in just a few hours, then I put it back

and there is no one who knows that I have done this in the morning!

PERFECT!

Building a Team - 4 Tips to Build Your Dream Team - Duration: 6:40.

it's really hard to accomplish anything

worth doing all by ourselves here's how

you can build a great team around you to

help accomplish your goals welcome back

and congratulations on taking one more

step towards becoming one of the great

leaders of tomorrow one of the great

things about being a leader is all the

great people we get to work with on our

teams today I'll give you four tips on

how to build a great team around you to

help accomplish your mission and stay

tuned for the end I'm going to give you

a link to where you can download our

free leadership development plan

workbook and that will help you set your

career goals for the next two five and

ten years and build a plan of action to

achieve them one of the things that's

true about the military is we very

rarely have the same people on a team

from beginning to end in a project or

mission we've always got people moving

in and out and getting reassigned so

we're always in a mode of developing the

talent on our team and building our

leadership capacity on those teams

hopefully you have a little bit more

stability on your team but these four

tips today should help you build your

team whether you're starting a brand new

team for a brand new project or you're

just looking to do a little bit of

development and training with your

existing team or maybe bringing in some

new team members tip number one for you

today is to assess the needs of your

team whether that's skills experience

knowledge whatever it is and this is a

great tip for if you've already got an

existing team and you have a space to

fill you need to bring in a new member

and it's great if you get to choose who

that new member is sometimes we don't

always get to choose who our members of

our team are but if you get to choose

who that new member is take a look

at the skills you think you need on your

team and what maybe some of the gaps are

that you don't have and try to find

someone who's got that skill set or at

least some of those skills that you can

bring in and if you can't find someone

who has exactly the skill set you need

don't worry about it try to find someone

who kind of fits the bill gets most of

it there and then you can develop the

skills in them or in another team member

and kind of fill in those gaps in your

team again whether it's skills and

knowledge or experience find someone who

fills the gaps in your team the things

you feel you need to have to go forward

with your mission tip number two is to

find people who complement you and the

other members of your team and I don't

mean compliment like saying nice things

about you although that is nice when

that happens

I'm talking about people whose

complement you in the areas where maybe

you're not as strong and you complement

then in areas they're not as strong and

this kind of relates to skills like we

talked about in the first tip skills

knowledge and experience what I'm really

talking about is maybe more personality

and attitudes and behaviors kind of

things if you're working on a project

where you might need to go make

presentations and sell things to people

and you're not really a people person or

you're very analytical type maybe you

want someone on your team who is a

little more personable a little more

warm and help bridge that gap to make

people feel welcome and invited when

you're presenting them where they're

coming to see you so try to find people

who complement you not just the skills

knowledge and experience gaps but those

attitudes behaviors and personality

traits that will complement you and your

team members so that you're all working as

a team and providing all the support

that everybody needs tip number three is

to think about the culture you want to

have on your team and to bring in people

who match that culture you know if

you're a startup a small business

startup there's probably gonna be a lot

of late nights there's probably gonna be a lot

of quick turns on getting things done

and trying to build pitches and get out

you might be jumping on a plane at the last

minute to go see someone so you know

that's the kind of people you need to

bring in people who are going to be comfortable with

that ambiguity people are going to be

comfortable with not knowing where the next

sale is coming from if you're in a

bigger organization that prides itself

on excellence and being thorough and

disciplined much like the military was

those are going to be the kind of people

you want to bring into the organization

people who believe in excellence

and thoroughness and discipline do you

want to try to match the culture it

doesn't have to be a perfect match like

we talked about you're looking for

people who complement you just that not

just that skills knowledge and expertise

gap and not just those personalities but

people who might complement the culture

people who might be a devil's advocate

and say hey what if we think about this

a different way so think about the

culture you want to have if you want

to have an

innovative culture you might need to

bring in someone who's a little bit

innovative even if you're older culture

is a little more thorough and

disciplined tip number four is to have a

plan for developing the skills on your

team that's the skills for each team

member and not just their technical

skills but their leadership skills as well

and it's important to have a plan for

this because you want to make sure that

you're getting everyone on your team

enough leadership opportunities for them

to learn and grow and prove themselves

and to be able to move up into a

leadership position all the time is

right for them later without a plan sometimes

we can play favorites I know you know

we don't want to talk about that but

that happens sometimes or sometimes

people get overlooked for whatever

reason so having a plan for how you're

going to develop each member of your

team skills especially leadership skills

those soft skills whether its leadership

skills presentation skills communication

skills the things that don't lend

themselves easily to technical analysis

have a plan for how you're going to help

each team member learn and grow and be able

to advance in their career as you guys

know I like to include a bonus tip for

you sometimes and on this topic I do

have a bonus tip for you today and that's

don't be afraid to let your team members

move on when they get an opportunity

when they get a great opportunity to go

take a leadership role somewhere else

don't be afraid to let them move on a

lot of leaders want to keep their team

together they don't want to let the team

go off to do another opportunity because

they've got things working well but we need

to do that we need to let our team

members learn and grow and develop and

move on to better opportunities so that

they can continue to learn and grow and

do great things in the world so don't be

afraid to let your team members go there

comes a time when every person needs to

move on and do something else as leaders

we should be embracing that we should be

helping be helping our team members

prepare for that and we shouldn't be

trying to hold them back because it's

more convenient for us so there you go

four tips plus a bonus tip for building

your dream team whether it's a

pre-existing team or you're getting to

pick your own people from the very start

of a brand new project these four tips

will help you put that team together set

it up so they complement each other in

terms of skills and personality traits

and it'll help you build that team and

develop them and grow so they can all

move on you can all move on and grow

together to greater opportunities if you

Planting Canna bulbs in the garden - Duration: 3:41.

Hi I'm George :) today I will plant a plant called Canna

It is in this bag, and spent all winter in basement

and I will plant in the garden directly in the ground

that it was planted in summer, and it bloomed beautifully

and this plant has given me a friend Vitalie

Hi Vitalie :)

and the plant is very beautiful

Here are some more bulbs and I will separate

stayed in the basement to not freeze in winter

and see out where I cut

Well, now we see that it is very good bulb

and we will separate these bulbs, then we will plant in the garden

and let us separate them slowly

something like this

and

look like one I already removed

and we will plant, hope to survive

in the garden, beautiful there

and I will add some pictures of flower this plant, It was in summer 2016

and the flowers were beautiful

and leaves are similar in bananas

So it's beautiful

So I separated all the bulbs, and now I have to plant them in the garden

and they are somewhere five bulbs

So let's to plant

the ground is very soft, as is the spring

and we prepared place for these plants here

now I plant here, are five bulbs as I said

and plant here nice, look that

They are almost all planted another one remained

and put it in the edge there

Well, now we will have to cover with soil

and gently cover

after that we will get wet, and will be fine

I hope they will survive

if last year survived, why not survive this year?

and so, quite simply,

this is very well done,

So I finished planting

and now will have to wet thoroughly

I think I will pour out there a two buckets of water

and I will water it well well

and if sit the soil can add

after watering

see that decreased soil after I watered, I add a little soil

and thank you for watching, leave a like, distribute this video

and subscribe to my channel

Sea Smile - Cadenza//Conflitos | Official Music Video - Duration: 5:18.

My heart

Overflows

I wish to have, to be and to do

What am I missing?

Is this something that is inside me?

What do I need to have light burden at last?

How many of us feel the same

A desire, an obsession

Bitter taste of failure

It was all in vain so far

Eyes on the mirror

Dissatisfaction

One more page, end of another line

All in vain, all in vain

Should I stop fighting

What does not seem to change

Against myself

Against the words I carry on my chest

What should I do?

You've always failed to reach

You disapproved yourself

You kept stuck, waiting

Surrounded by empty intentions, mislead

Superior

I know, I can be

But what makes me think in a...

Potential

Available, hidden and lost

As long as the story doesn't leave the paper

Words will always be just words

Hollow sentences filling the illusion

Are part of an unsubstantiated story

And in this plan there's a pointer

That keeps spinning

And making it difficult to repair the course

Because seated the destiny

For sure, takes you nowhere

Should I stop fighting

What does not seem to change

Against myself

Against the words I carry on my chest

What should I do?

What...

are we?

What...

Are we made of?

Your voice pierces me

Consuming the dream and extinguishing the desire

I can't stand this anguish

ArchiCAD 20 Schedules - values with formulas via Excel - Duration: 3:18.

This video will show how to work schedules with fields based on formulas

A simple example will be showned here, but it is possible to create

more complex formulas.

Here is a schedule with columns for "Unit value" and "Quantity"

for each door of the project.

A new column called "Total Value" will be introduced.

To do so:

1st) Create a new property value called "Total Value" (or something similar)

2nd) This property must be set as a numeric parameter.

3º) By default, this property will be available for all elements of the list.

Including doors.

4º) In the schedule, set a new column for "Total Value".

5º) Export data to MS Excel.

6º) In Excel, assign the required formula.

In this case, a multiplication between "Unit Value" and "Quantity" will be set.

7º) Save file.

8º) In ArchiCAD 20, import file.

In this window user can manage new fields.

In this example, any field was edited.

Ok! The values coming from Excel file are introduced!

Reflects CrossFollowers - FREE or LIBERTINE? | #7 - Duration: 0:53.

Today, many Christians are looking for some profligacy in the midst of videos, pastors, leaders,

seeking a freedom to fulfill their wants and desires,

Whether they be with drinks, parties, ballads, songs, advices or anything like that.

But in 1Corinthians 10:23 it says: ''All things are lawful, but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful, but all things edify not.''

So, before doing anything, we must stop and wonder if this will glorify God.

You are free to do what you want as long as you do not sin.

Make your choices, you are free, but that they be turned to the Word of God.

USDA & USNPS TEACH INVASIVE PEST AWARENESS AT CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL - Duration: 2:01.

IT'S WELL KNOWN THAT THE CHERRY TREES AROUND THE TIDAL BASIN IN WASHINGTON, D.C. WERE A

GIFT FROM JAPAN.

LESS WELL KNOWN IS THAT THESE TREES ARE NOT PART OF THAT ORIGINAL GIFT.

THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THAT SHIPMENT.

The trees arrived in Washington in January of 1910.

They were inspected by USDA inspectors, who found a number of serious pests.

So they were burned on the mall here in Washington, and of course that created quite a political

debacle.

TWO YEARS LATER, THESE PEST-FREE TREES ARRIVED, BUT THE EARLIER DEBACLE HAD A SILVER LINING.

That led to the Plant Quarantine Act, which became the basis for the quarantine system

we have today.

So the first gift of cherry trees from Japan ushered in a new era of plant health in the

United States.

USDA PARTNERS WITH OTHER AGENCIES TO SAFEGUARD AGAINST THE INTRODUCTION OF INVASIVE SPECIES,

WHICH CAUSE $120 BILLION A YEAR IN DAMAGE TO FARMS, FORESTS, CITIES AND SUBURBS.

BUT THEY CAN'T DO IT ALONE.

THAT'S AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR VISITORS TO THE ANNUAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL.

We get a million to a million and a half people here.

It's our job to educate and to inform and help people understand the importance to them.

This is a wonderful display.

The idea is you put your face in the hole, but when you do and you get that photograph

with your face, you also see the image of the pest that we need our fellow citizens

to all help look out for – the kind of thing that could really do damage to our national

forests, to our forestry industry, farms, etc.

IF YOU MISS THE DISPLAY, YOU CAN LEARN MORE AT HUNGRY PESTS DOT COM.

IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL, FOR THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, I'M PAT O'LEARY.

Elige dónde crecer | JLL celebra sus 30 años en España | 1987 - 2017 - Duration: 2:22.

I've been working in film for over 50 years.

30 of those have been in Spain.

A country which has not only taken me in,

but has awarded me with a Goya in the late 80s.

I'm a liar, an illusionist,

a cinematographic wizard.

You'd think that most films with special effects

have been created in Hollywood.

However many of them been produced

in places like Colmenar Viejo or Fuenlabrada.

I worked with Stanley Kubrick in '2001',

and then again in 'The Shining'.

I also had the amazing opportunity

to work with Ridley Scott in 'Alien'.

One day I received a script

full of fantasy titled 'The Neverending Story'.

The inspiration behind the character of Falcor

was my childhood pet, my dog Tessa.

In 1987 I decided to officially move to Spain.

I created 'The Dream Factory',

my own Special Effects studio in Madrid.

The biggest gift this country has given me

as a foreigner has been the ability to work

with total creative freedom on big productions

like 'Hable con Ella'  by Almodóvar,

or 'Abre los Ojos'  by Alejandro Amenábar.

Don't forget,

our dreams and imaginations

can be closer to home than we think.

We never chose where we're born,

but we do chose where we

grow and fulfill our dreams.
