FOR NEARLY A QUARTER OF THE CENTURY TONY CIRELLI HAS
BEEN THE MANAGER OF THE MESA COMMUNITY COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS.
WITH OVER 700 WINS TO HIS CREATE, CIRELLI HAS BEEN
CONFERENCE COACH OF THE YEAR THREE TIMES AND HAD
MCC ON TOP AS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IN 2014.
HE CREDITS MUCH OF HIS SUCCESS TO THE COACHES
THAT CAME BEFORE HIM. WE'VE BEEN FORTUNATE.

DRAFTED INTO THE MAJOR LEAGUES; MOST NOTABLY
HUBIE BROOKS, MICKEY HATCHER, AND MARTY BARRETT.
ANOTHER FORMER PLAYER BRET MERRIMAN IS SEEING HIS
LEGACY FULFILLED THROUGH HIS SON, SOPHOMORE
PITCHER CHASE MERRIMAN.
I'VE BEEN A PITCHER SINCE I WAS PROBABLY -- EVER
GRABBED A BASEBALL.
IT WAS OFF THE MOUND, LITTLE LEAGUE, NOTHING BUT A PITCHER.
IF I WASN'T PITCHING, I WAS CATCHING, THROWING
GUYS OUT, BECAUSE I HAD NO ARM.
SO I'VE ALWAYS LOVED PITCHING.
I THINK JUST GROWING UP IN A BIG LEAGUE HOUSEHOLD,
BASEBALL HOUSEHOLD MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE.
YOU KNOW, BEING AROUND GAME, IT HELPS YOU
UNDERSTAND THE GAME A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND THE
MATURATION PROCESS IS A LOT EASIER.
CIRELLI TAKES PRIDE IN HELPING A GOOD HIGH SCHOOL
PLAYER DEVELOP HIS GAME SO HE BECOMES A DRAFT ABLE PLAYER.
WE'RE TRYING TO DEVELOP PLAYERS TO GO ON TO THE
NEXT LEVEL, BECAUSE ALL THE KIDS HERE GO ON TO
EITHER PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL OR A FOUR-YEAR SCHOOL.
SO IT'S NOT JUST GOOD ENOUGH THAT YOU'RE GOOD
HERE AT THIS LEVEL.
WE WANT YOU TO BE AS GOOD AS YOU CAN BE.
KNOWING HIS DAD WAS A FORMER BIG LEAGUE PITCHER,
MERRIMAN, WHO WILL PLAY AT ARKANSAS TECH NEXT YEAR,
COUNTS ON HIM FOR SOME HELPFUL ADVICE, EVEN DURING GAMES.
HE STAYS BACK A LITTLE MORE OFTEN NOW AND JUST
STAYS IN THE STANDS.
YOU CAN HEAR HIM EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE SHOUT OUT LITTLE
THINGS, BECAUSE HE'S GOT A BETTER EYE THAN ANYONE, REALLY.
I MEAN, JUST LAST WEEKEND, HE CAME HERE AND SAT IN THE BULLPEN
WITH ME AND WENT OVER SOME STUFF. SO IT WAS REALLY GOOD.

SO FAR THIS YEAR, MERRIMAN IS FEELING GOOD ON THE HILL.
I AM JUST HAVING ALL THIS SUCCESS, FEEL A LOT OF
MORE COMFORTABLE ON THE MOUND THAN LAST YEAR.
LAST YEAR, I WAS KIND OF JITTERY, KIND OF NERVOUS
ABOUT FINDING STRIKES.
NOW, I'M JUST UP THERE THINKING I AM GOING TO
BEAT EVERYONE, POUND THE ZONE, GET OUTS.

HELP OTHERS HAS THE ADMIRATION OF HER TEAMMATES.

SZMIT IS A YEAR-ROUND GOLFER.
HER SWING COACH PUTS A STRONG EMPHASIZE ON THE
IMPORTANCE OF WORKING OUT.
HE REALLY PUSHED WORKOUTS, BECAUSE, I MEAN, YOU JUST

WE'RE COMPETITIVE, BUT WE DON'T TAKE IT SERIOUS TO
THE POINT WHERE IT'S NOT FUN ANYMORE.
THAT'S BASICALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO HAVE FUN.
THREE OF THE FOUR GIRLS HAVE QUALIFIED FOR NATIONALS SO FAR.
WITH THE FOURTH BEING ONLY 1.1% POINTS AWAY FROM QUALIFYING.

I THINK WE CAN DO EVEN BETTER AND IMPROVE ON THAT.

THE MAJORITY OF OUR ATHLETES WENT AND SET THEIR PERSONAL
BEST AT THE NATIONAL MEET, WHICH IS ALWAYS THE GOAL.
THE ONES THAT DIDN'T WERE VERY CLOSE TO MEETING WHAT
THEY DID TO GET THERE. SO THAT'S ALL YOU CAN DO.
ONE OF THE GALS THAT WAS THERE WAS YOUR LADY POLE VAULTER
MALIBU WALTER. WE DID A FEATURE ON HER EARLIER THIS YEAR.
GREAT GAL. YOU TOLD ME OFF CAMERA SHE HAS LITERALLY
IMPROVED HER BEST IN THE VAULT BY TWO FEET OVER ONE YEAR.
THAT'S INCREDIBLE. YEAH. WELL, SO SHE CAME IN.
I RECRUITED HER OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE'S MY ONLY VAULTER LAST YEAR.
SHE JUMPED 9'6 IN HIGH SCHOOL ONE TIME, MOSTLY A
9-FOOT VAULTER, BUT SHE GOT IT ONCE, AND THEN IMPROVED.
SHE'S ALL THE WAY UP TO 11'6 NOW.
SHE JUMPED 11 AT THE NATIONAL MEET.
SO, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY SHE WAS DISAPPOINTED AND
WANTED TO HIT AN EVEN HIGHER HEIGHT, BUT, YOU
KNOW, SHE WAS IN THE TOP TEN.
AND SHE'S AHEAD OF WHERE SHE STARTED.
SO SHE DID PHENOMENAL OVERALL.
WHAT DOES A GAL LIKE MALIBU NOW DO?
IS SHE THINKING SHE MIGHT BE ABLE TO MOVE UP TO THE

A LONG HISTORY WITH SUCCESS IN THE POLE VAULT.

DOES THE PRACTICE SCHEDULE TAKE ON A DIFFERENT FEEL
OR TONE TO IT WHEN YOU MOVE TO THE INDOOR TO OUTDOORS?
FOR US, IT'S ACTUALLY -- THE INDOOR TO OUTDOOR
TRANSITION IS OBVIOUSLY EASY, BECAUSE WE'RE OUTSIDE EVERY DAY.
IT'S REALLY THE TRANSITION TO BEING FROM AN OUTDOOR
FACILITY AND GOING INTO THE INDOOR IS ACTUALLY

HE'S GOING TO BE COMING OUT AS WELL RUNNING 10,000
AND 3,000 STEEPLE.

I thought that I would go ahead and do it on camera since I was so excited about my cut.
I love my new little hairstyle.
I just cannot wait to do twist outs but today I don't have that much time right now
So, I'm gonna do a quick wash and go
With one of my favorite products.
I'm going to use the Don't Shrink Aunt Jackie's Elongating Gel.
There's nothing to elongate, but, <laughing> Oh my goodness!
It's so little and cute!

Y'all this gonna take me NO time!
Alright, so
Look how cute it is and so teeny tiny.
Oh, yeah, that's cute.
All I'm gonna to do is just wet the section,
and just pull it apart,
kinda detangling it.
And then I'm putting the gel on there, like this kind of motion.
Kinda sandwiching my hair with the gel.
Um hmmm…
Yeah, that's cute.
Isn't it crazy how gels just transform your hair?
I just think it's so pretty.
So here's my hair with the gel on it and here's my hair with nothing on it.
Just when you thought your hair was dry.
See, it's not dry.
Just put some stuff on it.
Aw, my hair looks so black and healthy.

TO BE GOOD STUDENTS, HAVE A DESIRE TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES.
NICK SINGRADITH, WHO PLAYED AT NEARBY IRONWOOD
HIGH SCHOOL UNDERSTANDS THE CHALLENGES OF BEING A
STUDENT ATHLETE AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL.
YOU JUST GOT TO STAY FOCUSED.
YOU CAN'T BE AFRAID TO FAIL.

THEIR BASEBALL LEGACY UNDER LONG-TIME HEAD COACH
TONY CIRELLI AND STAR HURLER CHASE MERRIMAN.
DREW WATHEY HAS THE STORY.
FOR NEARLY A QUARTER OF THE CENTURY TONY CIRELLI HAS
BEEN THE MANAGER OF THE MESA COMMUNITY COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS.
WITH OVER 700 WINS TO HIS CREATE, CIRELLI HAS BEEN
CONFERENCE COACH OF THE YEAR THREE TIMES AND HAD
MCC ON TOP AS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IN 2014.
HE CREDITS MUCH OF HIS SUCCESS TO THE COACHES
THAT CAME BEFORE HIM. WE'VE BEEN FORTUNATE.
YOU KNOW, WE HAD A GREAT JIM BROCK STARTED IT WITH
JIM FREY AND THEN ROGER SCHMUCK.
AND SO I WAS FORTUNATE SO COME IN BEHIND THOSE GUYS,
BUT THEY ESTABLISHED A GREAT TRADITION HERE AT MESA.
45 THUNDERBIRD PLAYERS OVER THE YEARS HAVE BEEN
DRAFTED INTO THE MAJOR LEAGUES; MOST NOTABLY
HUBIE BROOKS, MICKEY HATCHER, AND MARTY BARRETT.
ANOTHER FORMER PLAYER BRET MERRIMAN IS SEEING HIS
LEGACY FULFILLED THROUGH HIS SON, SOPHOMORE
PITCHER CHASE MERRIMAN.
I'VE BEEN A PITCHER SINCE I WAS PROBABLY -- EVER
GRABBED A BASEBALL.
IT WAS OFF THE MOUND, LITTLE LEAGUE, NOTHING BUT A PITCHER.
IF I WASN'T PITCHING, I WAS CATCHING, THROWING
GUYS OUT, BECAUSE I HAD NO ARM.
SO I'VE ALWAYS LOVED PITCHING.
I THINK JUST GROWING UP IN A BIG LEAGUE HOUSEHOLD,
BASEBALL HOUSEHOLD MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE.
YOU KNOW, BEING AROUND GAME, IT HELPS YOU
UNDERSTAND THE GAME A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND THE
MATURATION PROCESS IS A LOT EASIER.
CIRELLI TAKES PRIDE IN HELPING A GOOD HIGH SCHOOL
PLAYER DEVELOP HIS GAME SO HE BECOMES A DRAFT ABLE PLAYER.
WE'RE TRYING TO DEVELOP PLAYERS TO GO ON TO THE
NEXT LEVEL, BECAUSE ALL THE KIDS HERE GO ON TO
EITHER PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL OR A FOUR-YEAR SCHOOL.
SO IT'S NOT JUST GOOD ENOUGH THAT YOU'RE GOOD
HERE AT THIS LEVEL.
WE WANT YOU TO BE AS GOOD AS YOU CAN BE.
KNOWING HIS DAD WAS A FORMER BIG LEAGUE PITCHER,
MERRIMAN, WHO WILL PLAY AT ARKANSAS TECH NEXT YEAR,
COUNTS ON HIM FOR SOME HELPFUL ADVICE, EVEN DURING GAMES.
HE STAYS BACK A LITTLE MORE OFTEN NOW AND JUST
STAYS IN THE STANDS.
YOU CAN HEAR HIM EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE SHOUT OUT LITTLE
THINGS, BECAUSE HE'S GOT A BETTER EYE THAN ANYONE, REALLY.
I MEAN, JUST LAST WEEKEND, HE CAME HERE AND SAT IN THE BULLPEN
WITH ME AND WENT OVER SOME STUFF. SO IT WAS REALLY GOOD.
THE THUNDERBIRDS ARE WELL ON THEIR WAY TO ANOTHER
STRONG SEASON, LOOKING TO GO DEEP INTO THE PLAYOFFS.
SO FAR THIS YEAR, MERRIMAN IS FEELING GOOD ON THE HILL.
I AM JUST HAVING ALL THIS SUCCESS, FEEL A LOT OF
MORE COMFORTABLE ON THE MOUND THAN LAST YEAR.
LAST YEAR, I WAS KIND OF JITTERY, KIND OF NERVOUS
ABOUT FINDING STRIKES.
NOW, I'M JUST UP THERE THINKING I AM GOING TO
BEAT EVERYONE, POUND THE ZONE, GET OUTS.
I'M DREW WATHEY FOR INSIDE MARICOPA SPORTS.

SZMIT THAT HAS BEEN A BIG REASON FOR IT.
SHE WANTS TO PLAY AFTER SHE LEAVES HERE, AND
THAT'S THE TYPE THE GIRL YOU WANT INTO YOUR
PROGRAM; THE ONES WHO WANT TO IMPROVE THEIR GAMES
DURING THESE TWO YEARS, RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP, TO
GET PAID TO PLAY THOSE LAST TWO YEARS IN COLLEGE.
SZMIT MADE NATIONALS LAST SEASON AND HAS QUALIFIED
TO GO AGAIN THIS YEAR.
THIS YEAR, MY GAME IS JUST BETTER.
LIKE, LAST YEAR, LIKE I SAID, I KIND OF TOOK A LITTLE BREAK.
BUT THIS YEAR, YOU KNOW, I'VE ALL RIGHT PUT SOME
PRETTY GOOD SCORES IN.
YEAH, I AM REALLY EXCITED.
SZMIT'S LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND HER WILLINGNESS TO
HELP OTHERS HAS THE ADMIRATION OF HER TEAMMATES.
SHE OFFERS A LOT OF HELPFUL TIP FOR THE GOLF TEAM.
SHE'S ALWAYS THERE TO HELP US OUT OR GIVE US POINTERS
IF WERE STRUGGLING.
COACH UNDERWOOD SAYS SZMIT IS A GOLF-AHOLIC.
AND AFTER SPEAKING WITH HER AND WATCHING HER GOLF
SWING, IT'S OBVIOUS. I'M STILL LEARNING.
GOLF IS ONE OF THE THOSE SPORTS WHERE, LIKE, YOU
JUST LEARN NEW THINGS ALL THE TIME, AND YOU ALWAYS
HAVE TO WORK TOWARDS IT.
SZMIT IS A YEAR-ROUND GOLFER.
HER SWING COACH PUTS A STRONG EMPHASIZE ON THE
IMPORTANCE OF WORKING OUT.
HE REALLY PUSHED WORKOUTS, BECAUSE, I MEAN, YOU JUST
YOU CAN'T COMPETE IF YOU CAN'T HIT THE BALL FAR.
PRACTICE ISN'T THE ONLY THING CONTRIBUTING TO HER SUCCESS.
SZMIT SAYS ATTITUDE ALSO PLAYS A BIG ROLE IN
PLAYING GOOD GOLF.
I KNOW, LIKE, A LOT OF GOLFERS THAT PLAY REALLY
WELL TEND TO GET MORE UPSET WHEN THEY HAVE A BAD
ROUND, BUT, I DON'T KNOW, MY THING IS JUST TO LIKE
NEVER LET MYSELF GET UPSET.
THE REST OF THE TEAM EMBRACES SZMIT'S STYLE OF PLAY.
WE'RE COMPETITIVE, BUT WE DON'T TAKE IT SERIOUS TO
THE POINT WHERE IT'S NOT FUN ANYMORE.
THAT'S BASICALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO HAVE FUN.
THREE OF THE FOUR GIRLS HAVE QUALIFIED FOR NATIONALS SO FAR.
WITH THE FOURTH BEING ONLY 1.1% POINTS AWAY FROM QUALIFYING.
COACH UNDERWOOD EXPLAINS THE KEYS TO HIS TEAM'S
SUCCESS THIS SEASON.
THIS GROUP SO FAR HAS BEEN MY EASIEST AS A COACH.
NO CATTINESS BETWEEN THEM.

IN PITTSBURGH, KANSAS. HOW DID THE PUMAS END UP DOING?
PRETTY WELL. PRETTY WELL.
WE WERE HONESTLY SHOOTING FOR TOP TEN.
WE ENDED TIED FOR 13TH ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE AND
14TH ON THE MEN'S. SO BOTH IN THE TOP 15.
BUT WE'RE LOOKING FOR A SOLID TEAM FOR OUTDOORS.
I THINK WE CAN DO EVEN BETTER AND IMPROVE ON THAT.
SO WE WERE HAPPY.
YOU HAD ABOUT CLOSE TO 35 NATIONAL QUALIFIERS GOING
INTO THE NATIONALS. HOW DID MOST OF THEM DO?
JASON AND CONNER WERE KEY FRESHMAN GOING IN.
YEAH, OVERALL, PERFORMANCES WERE PHENOMENAL.
WE HAD MULTIPLE PR'S.
THE MAJORITY OF OUR ATHLETES WENT AND SET THEIR PERSONAL
BEST AT THE NATIONAL MEET, WHICH IS ALWAYS THE GOAL.
THE ONES THAT DIDN'T WERE VERY CLOSE TO MEETING WHAT
THEY DID TO GET THERE. SO THAT'S ALL YOU CAN DO.
ONE OF THE GALS THAT WAS THERE WAS YOUR LADY POLE VAULTER
MALIBU WALTER. WE DID A FEATURE ON HER EARLIER THIS YEAR.
GREAT GAL. YOU TOLD ME OFF CAMERA SHE HAS LITERALLY
IMPROVED HER BEST IN THE VAULT BY TWO FEET OVER ONE YEAR.
THAT'S INCREDIBLE. YEAH. WELL, SO SHE CAME IN.
I RECRUITED HER OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE'S MY ONLY VAULTER LAST YEAR.
SHE JUMPED 9'6 IN HIGH SCHOOL ONE TIME, MOSTLY A
9-FOOT VAULTER, BUT SHE GOT IT ONCE, AND THEN IMPROVED.
SHE'S ALL THE WAY UP TO 11'6 NOW.
SHE JUMPED 11 AT THE NATIONAL MEET.
SO, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY SHE WAS DISAPPOINTED AND
WANTED TO HIT AN EVEN HIGHER HEIGHT, BUT, YOU
KNOW, SHE WAS IN THE TOP TEN.
AND SHE'S AHEAD OF WHERE SHE STARTED.
SO SHE DID PHENOMENAL OVERALL.
WHAT DOES A GAL LIKE MALIBU NOW DO?
IS SHE THINKING SHE MIGHT BE ABLE TO MOVE UP TO THE
D-III OR D-II LEVEL AND PERFORM THERE?
YEAH, SHE'S EVEN GOT A COUPLE OF LOOKS FROM
DIVISION I'S, LOCAL D-I, GCU'S TALKED TO HER A LITTLE BIT.
SHE'S GOT SOME OTHER INTERESTS FROM MID-MAJOR
DIVISION I SCHOOLS.
D-II COULD BE A GREAT OPTION FOR HER AS WELL.
SO, YEAH, SHE'S LOOKING TO MOVE ON FOR SURE.
NOW, PARADISE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE HAS HAD
A LONG HISTORY WITH SUCCESS IN THE POLE VAULT.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT STORY BACKGROUND. SURE.
SO, ACTUALLY, PART OF WHAT DREW ME TO PARADISE VALLEY
IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS WATCHING THE LEVEL OF
PERFORMANCE THEY PUT OUT WITH COACH BARNEY, WHO IS
HERE NOW AS A CO-HEAD COACH WITH ME.
AND THEN TODD LEHMAN, WHO WAS A LONG-TIME CO-HEAD
COACH WITH COACH BARNEY.
HE'S A PHENOMENAL POLE VAULT COACH NOW AT GRAND
CANYON UNIVERSITY.
AND HE HAD TONS OF NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AND TOP PERFORMERS.
AND SO I TOLD THEM WHEN I CAME DOWN, MY GOAL WAS TO AT LEAST
TRY TO CONTINUE WHAT HE STARTED HERE WITH THE POLE VAULT.
NOW, YOU'RE MOVING INTO THE OUTDOOR SEASON.

TRANSITION IS OBVIOUSLY EASY, BECAUSE WE'RE OUTSIDE EVERY DAY.
IT'S REALLY THE TRANSITION TO BEING FROM AN OUTDOOR
FACILITY AND GOING INTO THE INDOOR IS ACTUALLY
SOMETHING OF A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGE FOR US.
SO OUR GUYS THINK -- YOU KNOW, WE HAD A 300-METER
TRACK AT NATIONALS.
AND OUR GUYS THINK THAT'S TIGHT TURNS.
I'M USED TO FLAT 200-METER TRACKS IN THE MIDWEST.
SO, YOU KNOW, IT JUST KIND OF THROWS THEM FOR A LOOP.
WE GOT TO DO SOME EXTRA THINGS TO MAKE SURE
THEY'RE PREPPED FOR THOSE, YOU KNOW, SLIGHT
DIFFERENCES INDOORS, BUT SEAMLESS OUTDOORS FOR US
FOR THE MOST PART.
HOW IS THE OUTDOOR TEAM START SHAPING UP SO FAR?
REALLY WELL. WE'RE ACTUALLY ADDING A COUPLE OF GUYS IN THAT
WERE REGISTERED IN INDOOR SEASON; A GUY NAMED ERIC
OSWALD WHO IS A GREAT DISTANCE RUNNER FOR US
LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.
HE'S GOT ONE SEASON OF ELIGIBILITY LEFT; ANOTHER
ONE, JOHN WINDFIELD.
HE'S GOING TO BE COMING OUT AS WELL RUNNING 10,000
AND 3,000 STEEPLE.
SO WE'LL PICK UP HOPEFULLY SOME MORE POINTS IN THE
DISTANCE EVENTS AND THEN CONTINUE WHAT WE'RE DOING
WITH THE VAULT AND MULTIS.
AND, ALSO, WE HAVE SOME GOOD 400-METER HURDLERS THAT WE'LL
BE ADDING OUTDOORS, BECAUSE IT'S NOT AN EVENT INDOORS.
I ALWAYS LIKE TO TALK TO THE JUNIOR COLLEGE COACHES ABOUT
RECRUITING. IT SEEMS TO TAKE ON KIND OF LITTLE BIT
DIFFERENT FEEL THAN WHAT A D-I COACH WOULD DO.
WHEN YOU GO TO HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS, TALK A LITTLE BIT
HOW YOU SEARCH OUT CERTAIN ATHLETES THAT MIGHT BE
WILLING TO GO TO A 2-YEAR SCHOOL RATHER A 4-YEAR SCHOOL.
YEAH, WELL, WE OBVIOUSLY KEEP AN EYE ON THE LIST.
THERE'S RANKING LISTS OUT THERE THAT, YOU KNOW, WE
KEEP AN EYE ON AND KIND OF IDENTIFY THE MARKS THAT WE
THINK AT LEAST GET US IN THE RANGE OF WHAT CAN
DEVELOP INTO A GREAT JUNIOR COLLEGE LEVEL ATHLETE.
AND, ESSENTIALLY, WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR -- WE
TALK ABOUT THIS A LOT.
WE CONSIDERED OURSELVES LIKE A DIVISION I PROGRAM
THAT JUST HAPPENS TO BE AT A JUNIOR COLLEGE.
SO WE'RE LOOKING FOR ATHLETES THAT ARE THAT
DIVISION I ATHLETE THAT JUST HASN'T BEEN IDENTIFIED
YET OR HASN'T HAD TIME TO DEVELOP TO THAT LEVEL YET.
AND WE GIVE THEM TWO MORE YEARS AND HOPEFULLY THEY GET THERE.
AND HOW MUCH EMPHASIZE DO YOU PLACE ON JUST
IMPROVING THEIR PERSONAL BESTS OR REALLY TRYING TO
GET THEM TO THAT NEXT LEVEL IN COLLEGE?
WE PUT A LOT. WE TALK ABOUT IT STARTING IN RECRUITING.

That I had experienced it here in my culture.
So there's no physical body, there's no gender,
but there's also no culture.
There's no race, because race is a here thing,
it's part of being physical.
There's no nationality, no race, no beliefs.
There's also no religion.
Religion is also a here thing, not a there thing.
Because in death, we actually transcend religion.
Religion is here, to help us understand
that realm, or to bridge the gap
between this realm and that.
But when you're in that realm, you don't need religion,
'cause you're already there.
So all of these things are part of being here,
and all of that was left behind.
And if all of that is left behind,
our gender, our culture, our physical body,
our race, our religion, and even all the beliefs
that I had accumulated over a lifetime,
even all of that was left behind.
So what crosses over?
What crosses over is our pure essence.
Pure essence.
And what is pure essence?
Pure essence is pure God.
It's pure love.
We can call it what we want,
but it's who we are at our core.
Every single one of us, underneath these layers
that we've accumulated over a lifetime,
sure you may have been born with your race
and your gender and so on, but the beliefs
about those things are things you accumulate here.
About what it means to be a woman,
or a man, or black or white or yellow or brown.
Those are things we accumulate here.
They don't exist there.
They're meaningless there.
And I realized that without all of that,
we are all the same.
We are all one.
And we are all connected, every single one of us.
We're all connected.
Without a physical body, our essence is limitless,
it's absolutely limitless.
There's nowhere that it begins and ends,
which means we all overlap each other.
It means you and I are connected, we're all connected.
But this physical body gives us the impression,
or the feeling or the illusion,
that we're all separate individual beings.
But in actuality we're not.
When I was in that realm, it didn't feel
like I was in a dream, it didn't feel like I was in a coma,
and it didn't feel like this was a dream.
It felt like I had woken up from the dream,
and this physical life is the dream.
In this dream we feel separate.
And we feel we have to impose our ideas on each other,
like I felt my father was doing with me.
In that realm, I realized that all of us
are facets of the same whole.
And we can call that whole anything,
we can call it "universal energy,"
we can call it "God," we can call it what we want.
But every single one of us is an expression of that.
And we're just expressing it
in a different way, each of us.
And when I realized that, for me that was huge.
It was like a huge awakening.
It was a huge clarity because I, then,
started to understand how it is that I got cancer.
I started to understand that I had never known,
nobody had ever told me, how powerful I was.
How magnificent I was.
Nobody had ever told me that I
am the facet of God, as are you.
Nobody had told me that I'm supposed to
express myself and that's why I'm here.
I had spent a lifetime being a people pleaser,
and a doormat.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm a recovering doormat.
(laughter)
And I had spent a lifetime
saying yes when I meant no.
I had spent a lifetime forsaking myself,
putting myself down and sacrificing myself.
Always feeling everyone else's ideas
were more important or better than mine,
always feeling everyone else's problems
deserved more attention than mine.
And always putting everyone else before me,
to the point that I got drained and got cancer.
And this was the first time that I realized
that actually, as a facet of God,
I was supposed to express myself because,
to not express who I am, all of us,
to not express who we are, means we are denying
that facet of God from expressing itself
through this channel, through this vessel.
While I was in that realm, I also encountered
the essence of my best friend.
In actuality, I felt that
I was surrounded by loving beings,
but I didn't recognize all of them.
But I knew that they were there to help me.
And I understood that there was no
judgment in that realm, there was only unconditional love.
And this is what is meant by a state of
non-duality, because when we believe that there is
judgment or that there is hell and heaven,
we're thinking in terms of this physical world
and physical life, 'cause in physical life,
there is what we call duality, which means,
in order to experience good we have to know bad.
In order to experience reward,
we also have to know punishment,
we have to know judgment and so on.
In that realm there's actually no judgment
because when we are there, we understand
why we did everything we did.
We understand that even the things that we did
that seemingly hurt other people,
we did it out of our own pain, and our own fear.
And if you are living a life of fear,
and pain, that's causing you to cause pain
to other people, the last thing you need
is more pain and punishment and judgment
when you cross over.
The only thing there is, is compassion
and love and empathy.
And total understanding.

How to Make German Pancakes - Easy German Pancake Recipe - Dutch Babies
Hello and welcome back to In the Kitchen with Matt, I am your host Matt Taylor.
Today I am going to show you how to make German Pancakes; breakfasts are one of my favorite
things to make, and German Pancakes are actually one of the first things I learned how to make
when I was a young lad, learning to cook.
The do go by other names, Dutch Babies, and then the Finnish Pancake as well, whatever
you call them, super easy to do, really yummy, let's get started.
First let's preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Now I am going to start with 6 eggs and
put them in a large bowl, and then to that, I am going to add one cup of milk, you can
use 1 percent, 2 percent, whole milk.
And then I am going to come in here and give this a good whisk.
And you can do this in a blender if you like as well.
And then to this we will add one cup of flour, 1 half tsp. of salt, and that is it for the
batter, if you want this a little more sweet, add like a Tbsp. of sugar, and 1 tsp. of vanilla
extract.
This is the basic recipe.
Let's go ahead and mix this together.
All right when you are done it will be nice and runny like that.
And now what we do is we take a 13x9 baking dish, and we take 2 tablespoons of butter,
and we are going to go ahead and put that right in there, and then we are going to put
this in the oven and let the butter melt completely, and then we will take it out, the pan will
be hot, and then we will add our batter right in there.
All right and then after about a minute or so, we will take our pan out, make sure you
use a hot mitt, and make sure the butter gets moved around there a bit, and then we are
going to take our batter, and pour it right in the middle, we will go ahead and put this
back in the oven, and we will bake it for 20 minutes to 22 minutes, until the sides
come up, the batter is going to go up the sides, and get golden brown, it is going to
look really cool.
All right the timer is done, all right.
And then we take them out.
They will look like that, really cool.
Look at the golden brown on the edges, and then you just top them off, however you like,
with powdered sugar, syrup, whipped cream, fruit, whatever you like to do, and you will
see it is going to start to go back down, fall back down, and that is totally okay,
super natural.
All right our German Pancakes are done, turned out amazing, pretty easy to do, if I can do
it, you can do it.

All I'm gonna to do is just wet the section,
and just pull it apart,
kinda detangling it.
And then I'm putting the gel on there, like this kind of motion.
Kinda sandwiching my hair with the gel.
Um hmmm…
Yeah, that's cute.
Isn't it crazy how gels just transform your hair?
I just think it's so pretty.
So here's my hair with the gel on it and here's my hair with nothing on it.
Just when you thought your hair was dry.
See, it's not dry.
Just put some stuff on it.
Aw, my hair looks so black and healthy.
I love this gel.

The best thing society can do was set a bold goal and think about how to achieve it and
go for it.
I just love that idea of governance.
Of course I grew up with it because President Kennedy in my youth said to the congress in
1961, that's how old I am and I remember those days.
He said I believe that America should adopt the goal before this decade is out of landing
a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth.
President Kennedy said we have a big goal, let's go to the moon and back and let's
do it this decade.
And, you know, the engineers and the scientists said that's pretty cool.
And the congress said that's something good for us to invest in.
And within the decade, of course, Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and we had a transformation
of space science, of communications technology, of semiconductor capacity, of computation
that were all spinoffs of that wonderful adventure.
Now I know that when President Kennedy said that there was no plan for how to do it and
everything had to be built along the way and everything was learning by doing and everything
was boldness and risk taking and putting resources into it.
But they had the goal.
They had the self-confidence.
They had the idea that this great challenge would be an inspiration, would organize our
energies and would have fantastic spillovers like global communications, like GPS, like
computation, like the semiconductor industry.
So that's optimism but optimism connected with goals, connected with clear thinking,
with rationality, with ways forward, with the boldness to say we can do great things.
I believe we absolutely should have such bold goals for our country.
By 2030 let's cut the poverty at least by half.
By 2030 let's cut the inequality in our country decisively so it's like the northern
European countries.
Not like this god-awful inequality that we have in the United States.
By 2030 let's move to decisively to renewable energy.
These are all achievable goals.
If you can land a man on the moon between May 1961 and the summer of 1969 don't tell
me we can't transform our energy system to save the planet.
Of course we can.
So this is what optimism is but optimism linked to clear goals, timelines and good rigorous
thinking and mobilization of people that can help to lead and can help society to get the
job done.
