Youtube daily report w Oct 10 2017

This video is sponsored by Vikings War of Clans.

Don't you miss the excitement and fun of the top PC games of the 90s and 2000s?

I certainly do.

Sadly nowadays, I don't have time to spend 5 or more hours playing against friends, luckily

Vikings War of Clans

As you might imagine, we at The Infographics Show love strategy games.

We miss the fun we had with them in the late 90's and 2000's, still hoping that one

day we will see another Command & Conquer or Age of Empires game.

Fortunately, we can finally have that experience again.

Vikings War of Clans is a super addictive mobile game that became famous for its massive

online battles between clans and even countries.

This is one of those games where you can spend as much or as little time playing it, and

totally play at at your own pace.

Over 3 million players attend events in the game.

Download the game from the links in the description and you'll get 200 gold so you can get a

fast start.

Our nickname in the game is TheInfographicsShow - spelled as one word; search for us and we

can play together!

American astronaut Eugene Andrew Cernan may be famous for being the last man on the moon,

but before his days in space, he was a U.S. navy captain.

He's less well known as the man that successfully landed planes on aircraft carriers 200 times,

a dream of his ever since he first saw aircraft taking off from those giants of the ocean.

Since the introduction of such capital ships in the early 20th century, they've become

an integral part of any country's military machine.

The problem is building the behemoths, which comes at great expense.

In fact, aircraft carriers and supercarriers are the most expensive military vehicles ever

made – one reason why very few countries have them.

But two wealthy allied countries do, and today we are going to compare their very best aircraft

carriers, in this episode of the Infographics Show, USS Gerald R Ford vs HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Don't forget to subscribe and click the bell button so that you can be part of our

Notification Squad.

First of all let's have a look at which countries own these floating islands.

We should also point out that the largest of these vessels are called supercarriers.

The ships have a huge strategic advantage in times of battle as they are virtually a

military unto themselves.

With no need for a base, the carriers can take thousands of crew, scores of aircraft,

highly destructive weapons, and all kinds of other equipment.

As a British navy officer once said, "To put it simply, countries that aspire to strategic

international influence have aircraft carriers."

The United States has the most carriers in service with 11, and also two more under construction.

Italy has two in service, and Canada, China, France, India, Russia, Spain and Thailand

each have one.

A handful of other countries are currently building aircraft carriers, but only a few

have made the heavy investment in the giant supercarrier.

China will have two in the very near future; the UK will also have two, while India and

Russia should have a supercarrier in the more distant future.

The most recent of these supercarriers to hit the high seas is the UK's HMS Queen

Elizabeth.

The UK media reported in August that this 65,000-ton ship was met by tens of thousands

of Brits RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT when it berthed at its home in Portsmouth for the

very first time.

The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, said the fact such a feat of engineering was up

and running represented a determination from the UK to remain a global power.

"We are determined to remain a fully engaged global power, working closely with our friends

and allies around the world," said May.

The main ally of the UK is the U.S., and with so many supercarriers to its name, maybe it

doesn't need much help.

But how does the U.S.'s prize carrier compare to the UK's?

Let's look at costs first.

Sources says that the most expensive military vehicle ever created in the history of mankind

is the USA's USS Gerald Ford.

The total cost was around $13 billion.

It's also thought a further 4.7 billion has been spent on research and development.

It too was just formally commissioned this year, by President Donald Trump, on July 22nd.

The British ship cost quite a bit less at around 3.8 billion dollars, although reports

don't state how much has been spent on R&D.

So, why does one ship cost so much more than the other?

Well, the Queen Elizabeth has a displacement of 65,000 tons and is 900 feet in length.

The Ford Class is the bigger ship with a displacement of 100,000 tons and a length of almost 1,110

feet.

It's a little larger, and is also significantly improved in terms of how many aircraft it

can carry when compared to the older Nimitz class.

In terms of what's under the hood, the Queen Elizabeth will have two Rolls-Royce Trent

MT 30 gas turbines, each generating 48,000 horse power.

This will give the ship a top speed of around 25 knots or 28.7 miles per hour.

The Ford Class will be powered by two A1B nuclear reactors and will have a top speed

of around 30.4 knots or 35 miles per hour.

One thing we should also point out is that this kind of nuclear power, it's hoped,

will power heavy weapons over an extended period of time.

The Ford Class will carry a crew of approximately 2,600, while the Queen Elizabeth is expected

to carry a full crew of around 1,600.

Both ships can carry more, but less is better considering possible loss of life.

One of the reasons for requiring fewer crew is advanced onboard automation, and also technology

that makes it easier to put aircraft in the sky.

As we can see, the Ford Class's major expense is largely due to size.

But something else added to the extreme cost, and that had to do with the aircraft it carries.

Before we come to that, let's look at what each carrier has on board.

Both are expected to carry the U.S's stealth multirole jet fighter, the Lockheed Martin

F-35 Lightning II.

The Ford Class can carry more, though, with a limit of about 75 aircraft.

This will include two squadrons of around ten or twelve F-35Cs, two squadrons of F/A-18E/F

Super Hornets, five EA-18G Growler electronic attack jets, four defensive E-2D Hawkeyes,

as well as two C-2 Greyhound carrier onboard delivery planes.

It will also have eight MH-60S Seahawk helicopters and some unmanned helicopters.

According to British defense media, the Queen Elizabeth full air wing will consist of F-35B

Lightning IIs as well as helicopters including Chinooks, Apache AH64s, Merlin HM2s and HC4s,

and Wildcat AH1s and HMA2s.

Part of the extra cost of the Ford Class is down to how some of the aircraft decelerate

and land, which will involve using something called Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG).

It's yet to be proven, though, which has become a point of controversy.

President Donald Trump famously criticized it as being a waste of money.

He was quoted as saying, "You are going to use goddamned steam, the digital costs

hundreds of millions of dollars more money and it's no good."

According to a recent Bloomberg story, the Ford Class still has problems with launching

and catching aircraft, while the British ship has no such problems as it uses older and

proven arresting wires, as well as a ski jump for take-off.

Not surprisingly both ships believe they have the superior radar systems, with the Brits

saying their Type 997 Artisan 3D medium range radar has "unrivalled detection performance

and world beating electronic protection measures."

National Interest reports that the Ford's Dual Band Radar is also the most modern system

of its kind in the world today when it comes to detecting aircraft and missiles.

But what if they do get hit?

While they are made of tough material, if a large missile hits these expensive ships

they will have huge problems.

That's why they are protected with the latest detection systems as well as frigates and

destroyers at their side.

In 2017 the Telegraph in Britain reported that the Queen Elizabeth is not protected

enough and runs the risk of being a billions of dollars wreck resting on the seabed.

This is why aircraft carriers are well protected in terms of arms.

The Ford Class will carry two Mk. 29 missile launchers, two Rolling Airframe Missile launchers,

and four Phalanx Close-In Weapon Systems.

It's also said that at some point it will mount nuclear powered laser self-defense weapons.

The Queen Elizabeth will have as its defense Phalanx close in weapons systems, as well

as guns and mini-guns.

Perhaps the Telegraph report was right and the Queen Elizabeth needs to pack a little

more punch.

But it's worth noting that it was built to protect as much as attack.

One more thing, the U.S. ship seems to have embraced diversity.

It won't have urinals, and all bathrooms will be gender neutral.

We are not saying the Queen Elizabeth doesn't have a similar set-up, only the British have

kept mum regarding how their crew will be taking a taking a pee.

If things get out of hand on the Queen Elizabeth, it comes equipped with a police station and

cells, which is quite a unique added extra.

When times are good, this home away from home will also offer tasty treats from its very

own bakery.

So, which ship do you think is the best, and are aircraft carriers even worth the money?

Praet esclusivo: «Amo la Liguria e il calore della Samp» - Duration: 12:01.

As a team, we've started well this year.

I'm happy on a personal level too

as I'm playing better than I did last year.

As I've said before,

last year was about getting to grips

with Italian football for me.

I understand it better now

and I'm more familiar with Giampaolo's way of playing.

It's going better for me this year

and I want to keep it up.

The coach thinks I play best as an inside forward.

I think I understand the positions

and the coach's brand of football better this year,

and that goes for the inside forward position too.

I still think I can do well as a trequartista

because that's where I've always played,

but the coach wants me to play at inside forward

at the moment so I do my best.

I want to get more assists and goals

and be more important to the team.

I can do well as an inside forward.

I started playing football when I was five years old.

I was very young – my dad encouraged me to play.

Back then I also played tennis.

When I was ten, I had to decide between tennis and football

and chose football.

I joined Genk, which is an hour away from home,

at the age of ten.

I went to school there too.

After Genk I joined Anderlecht,

where I spent five years before signing for Sampdoria.

Sampdoria weren't the only club interested in signing me,

but I felt really good about it after I met the president.

He has a very close relationship with the players,

whereas at Anderlecht there was a massive distance

between the directors and the team.

It's like a family here at Sampdoria.

Everyone is really close and I love that.

Samp is a really friendly club so

it was the perfect place for me.

I'm interested in fashion.

Around four years ago,

I set up a brand with my friend Yannick Nulens,

who I played with at Genk.

It's called DYJCODE.

We do it with another friend called Joey,

so that's why it has DYJ at the start.

We're all mates.

As I said, I like fashion and I like being creative.

We use a lot of black and white for the brand

– it's kind of streetwear.

When I joined Sampdoria,

we decided to make some t-shirts featuring Italian slogans

and words.

This is one of them!

It says "BUONGIORNO" and "ARRIVEDERCI" in Italian.

We've made a few more too.

I think people in Belgium like the link with me and Italy.

I live in Pieve Ligure,

five minutes from Bogliasco.

It's nice and close for training.

I'm very happy here. It's a beautiful region.

I live with my girlfriend Sharon and my dog Scotch.

He's three years old.

He's really important to me,

especially when my girlfriend is back home

as he usually stays with me.

He always wants to play around with a ball, a bit like me!

I really like the city of Genoa,

though I do find it a bit chaotic.

I prefer smaller, quieter towns such as Camogli,

which I really like.

Portofino is nice too.

I also visited Finale Ligure,

I also visited Finale Ligure, where there is a lovely beach.

I really like the sea.

I think it was my father that gave me that love for the sea.

There is a seaside in Belgium,

but it's a two hours' drive away

and it's not like it is here in Italy.

As I say, I like going out on the water in canoes or boats.

It's really important for me to have a sea view.

I absolutely love Italian food.

I could eat pasta every day – all kinds of pasta.

My favourite is carbonara,

but I love arrabbiata, bolognese, vongole and the rest too.

I miss Belgian frites a bit,

but as players we shouldn't eat too

many anyway so it's not an issue.

When my parents visit,

they come and see every home game in Genoa.

We go out to eat in restaurants in Bogliasco, Recco, Camogli…

We eat pasta or fish or something like that.

I use social media a lot as well,

my favourite is Instagram.

I think it's a great way of keeping in touch with the fans

and you can advertise things if you want to,

like me with my clothing line.

It's easy to use social networks for this.

I'm on Twitter and Facebook as well,

but Instagram is the one I use the most.

I think the Sampdoria fans are amazing

because they're always positive

and this is really important for the team.

They don't put us under too much pressure,

so we can play freely.

Home games at our stadium are amazing:

they chant and support us for the whole match.

This is really good for us.

Breaking into the senior national team

is definitely an objective of mine.

I don't think I played that well last season,

so I understand why I didn't get a call-up

because the Belgium squad is so strong right at the moment.

All the players play their trade in England, Spain and Italy,

like Radja Nainggolan or Dries Mertens.

It's very hard to get into the squad,

but after a good campaign for Sampdoria –

and we're playing pretty well currently –

I hope to get a call-up

because I definitely want to play for my country.

It won't be easy, though, and I'll need to be on top form.

I always want to be a leader on the pitch;

I'm not the kind who talks all the time,

but I prefer to let my feet do the leading

and be at the heart of the action when we get the ball.

That's the kind of leader I want to be in this team.

We've got a strong squad.

I think we're better than last season

because we've had a year to take on board

how Giampaolo wants to play.

Now you can see more of our style on the pitch,

so I think we just need to believe in ourselves

and continue as we're doing.

If it's possible, I definitely want to get into Europe,

but we're playing in Serie A

and we're up against many strong sides,

so it's no easy task.

Nevertheless, I think we've got an excellent team

and a united squad that gives everything for one another.

With the support of our amazing fans,

I think we can have a great season.

Forza Sampdoria!

The Open Mind: Don't March, Run... - Amanda Litman - Duration: 28:03.

HEFFNER: I'm Alexander Heffner, your host on The Open Mind.

We welcome with regularity,

the next generation of public servants,

who are working to cultivate a new civic creed.

Among those who come to mind,

Ben Rattray, founder of Change.org,

Selena Grey of the Mayday Pac,

Nick Troiano of The Centrist Project,

most recently Jimmy Dahman,

creator of the Town Hall Project.

To their ranks we add today,

20-something political operative,

Amanda Litman who founded Run for Something,

a new nonprofit organization,

that's recruiting forward thinking candidates

to enter elections in 2017 and beyond.

A veteran of presidential, national,

and state organizing, Litman is author of the

new volume, "Don't Just March Run for Something:

A Real-Talk Guide to Fixing the System Yourself."

Litman points out, indeed there are a half-million

elected office holders in the United States,

across federal, state, and local municipalities.

And she asked why you can't be one of them.

Litman is a proud Democratic,

whose progressive group believes millennials,

and newcomer candidates in particular,

are the key to rescuing the party from its

historic weakness, despite,

of course, having won more votes in both the

presidential contest, and combined house and senate elections.

Amanda, it's a pleasure to meet you today.

LITMAN: Pleasure to meet you.

HEFFNER: Congratulations on this book...

LITMAN: Thank you.

HEFFNER: You are encouraging your...

LITMAN: [LAUGHTER]

HEFFNER: Fellow country mean and women to run for something.

LITMAN: I am.

It's the entire point, this idea that it is north

enough just to march, it's not enough just to tweet,

it's not enough to just post on Facebook.

If you really care about solving a problem,

running for office is the best way to do it.

HEFFNER: And how is the message being received?

LITMAN: Uh, amazing.

So, we launched on inauguration day,

and we thought that this would be small,

we would struggle to get 100 people in the first

year who want to run.

And the first six months, we had more than 10,000

people sign up to say they're interested in

running for office, we have hundreds of people

already on the ballot, uh, and we're already

endorsing 65 young millennials who are first

or second time candidates.

HEFFNER: You were noticing in the air an organic

energy around progressive candidates that might be,

might remind people of the Tea Party,

uh, I think, you were concerned in the same

breath, that the DNC is already exerting too much

control over the 2018 midterm election.

Is that still the case, or do you think that

these smaller groups that have come,

yours in particular that's focused on candidate

recruitment, are going to be given the,

the chance they deserve, and their candidates are

gonna be given the chance they deserve?

LITMAN: Yeah. I mean I think it's important to keep in mind

the role of the DNC in particular,

since that's the committee you mentioned,

and that their responsibility is to help,

uh, presidential elections, and the national party infrastructure,

and support state parties.

The state parties are the ones that are actively

engaged in local politics, and they are,

unfortunately drastically underfunded and under resourced.

I don't think their lack of attention to local

politics is, is malevolent. I don't think it's bad intentions.

I, I don't think it's uh, spiteful.

I think it's, they don't have the capacity

and the resources to do the work, uh,

and that has left us in the point where,

uh, Democrats don't have control of nearly half

the country, or more than half the country in terms

of state legislatures and governors offices,

and there aren't resources available for you

if you want to run for local office.

There isn't a committee there that exists for

potential schoolboard members,

for potential city council members.

And that felt like a hole in the progressive

infrastructure, that we were able to fill.

HEFFNER: And as you seek to fill that hole,

and literally elect candidates,

are the majority of the folks with whom you're

working at the local level,

and what does that mean for people who are

watching that say, maybe I'll run for office?

What are the possibilities?

LITMAN: Um, so we exclusively work with

candidates who are running for local and

state legislature offices.

Uh, if you're running for governor,

if you're running for congress, that's great.

There are other people who can help you.

We exclusively focus on first and second time

candidates, who are thinking about positions

like school-board, city council,

state leg-, uh, county commissioner,

town supervisor, the places where if you've

never been an elected official before,

your point of entry is, is accessible,

and it really matters to have progressives

in these positions.

You know we've seen his with city councils and

schoolboards that have been overrun by

conservatives making decisions that are

detrimental to our communities.

HEFFNER: What have the results been thus far?

LITMAN: Um, of our organization?

I think uh, more than we could have hoped for.

Uh, that we've gotten 10,000 people saying they

care about local elections and they want to run,

is unforeseen and unprecedented.

Uh, our candidates that are running now,

that we've been endorsing, are amazing.

They are, uh, nearly half women,

nearly half people of color, uh, running for offices in,

I believe we have 18 states currently

represented, places where there are blue

communities, and places where there

are red communities.

And these folks aren't shying away from the fight.

They're saying, I care enough to put my life out

into the public sphere, to change my life's

direction, and do something.

HEFFNER: I think that's a challenge for millennials,

LITMAN: Yeah.

HEFFNER: Speaking broadly, they feel as though they

are, their identity doesn't derive from a

single locality, a single zip code.

LITMAN: Totally, and that makes it harder.

I mean I am intimately familiar with this.

I lived in four cities in 13 months, uh, at one point.

So I understand what it means to not feel

like you have roots somewhere, but the folks that we're

working with, we ask them to either be authentically

rooted in their community, whatever that means

for where you are, or to have a network,

thinking about, if you were gonna launch you

campaign in a week, do you know where you'd hold it?

Would you be able to fill the room?

Uh, have you been invested in what the community

is doing, in terms of getting to know the activists,

the members, the, the leaders?

Have you done your due diligence,

to make sure that when you say you represent a place,

you understand what that means.

HEFFNER: How many of them might everybody accused

of being carpetbaggers?

LITMAN: Not as many as you'd think,

in part because it's so common these days to have

jumped around a bit, which I find to be really...

HEFFNER: Expound, expound on that.

You have the opportunity to uh,

what, the, challenge is, a residency requirement...

LITMAN: Totally.

HEFFNER: The challenge is, even if you might

have been born somewhere, retaining that...

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: Historical connection, uh, and I think that you know,

a reason that at the federal level...

LITMAN: Yeah.

HEFFNER: You identify older typically men,

keep getting elected and reelected,

is they're working within this paradigm of having

lived in that state or that county for so many years,

it must be very challenging for someone

to run when they don't have a story to tell,

anchored in that community.

But can they still do it?

LITMAN: They absolutely can,

and I think we have seen candidates who said,

I moved somewhere three years ago,

uh, I spent those three years listening,

learning, and participating.

And if that's what you've done,

then you understand what it means to be of a place.

Um, I think some of our candidates say,

you know, the bigger thing that knocks against them,

is not their lack of necessarily roots

somewhere, uh, but it's their age, and their inexperience.

And they hear from voters when they go to the door,

you know, you don't have a long resume,

what have you actually done.

The reality is, is that they are representative

of a voice in government that isn't here,

uh, and that needs to be heard.

They also tend to come from a place of running

for the right reason, running to do something

and not be something.

Um, every person who comes through our doors,

we ask, why are you running for office.

What is the problem you want to solve

and what is the, how does the office you're running

for let you solve it?

If you can answer that question clearly and

eloquently and articulately, um, your campaign is better off.

HEFFNER: And if the answer is yes,

and you, in effect, want to sanction, approve, or help fund...

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: Or connect this candidate

with a constituency and a network,

what's the next step for that person who's working with you.

LITMAN: So anyone who comes through our doors

has a one on one with one of our volunteers,

in which they're looking for four key things.

Is this person progressive?

Whatever is means for wherever they are?

Are they authentically rooted in their community?

Is this person willing to work hard and knock doors,

because local races are won and lost by the

candidate themselves getting out there.

And is this person interesting and compelling to talk to?

Do they have a good story?

Um, are they fun? Are they engaging?

Um, if the candidate meets those four criteria,

they enter our community.

From there, we have access to uh, a network of mentors.

Uh, we have state leads in nearly two thirds

of the country, which are experts in local politics

that we connect them to.

We also connect them to groups that o training,

and provide other funding.

We have partnerships with nearly every major

candidate support group across the country,

and our candidates are getting,

um, special access to some of their resources.

HEFFNER: As of our recording,

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: Have there been any elections or any

victories in which, from your candidates?

LITMAN: A few.

You know, local elections tend to happen every week,

it seems like.

Um, one of my favorite anecdotes is a young woman

named Heather Ward, who's running for schoolboard

outside Philadelphia.

She decided to run after Trump's election.

Uh, Betsy DeVos made her realize,

I'm smarter than this woman.

Why shouldn't I run for schoolboard.

Uh, so while being a senior in college,

she spent January through May knocking doors,

making calls, and talking to voters.

We helped her with some mentorship,

we gave her someone support,

we got, talked her through her campaign plan,

and in May, she had a primary and she won.

And she told us, explicitly that she heard

from voters at the polls, and poll workers heard the

same, that they voted for her because they met her,

because they got to know her,

because she put in the work.

So, she's currently running for November's uh,

election, and I am sure that win or lose,

this is not the end of her work,

because she's committed to do it for the right reasons.

HEFFNER: But your big game, Amanda...

LITMAN: Hmm,

HEFFNER: Is retail politics.

LITMAN: Yeah, which, it feels very,

uh, far from that.

I pass as a digital professional.

It feels very far from that but,

when it comes to local politics,

what matters more than anything else,

is a person-to person connection.

HEFFNER: Do these candidates employ digital

technology to their benefit?

LITMAN: Absolutely, and I think it's one of the

great things about millennials running,

is that most of us have grown up on the internet.

Um, it's why it's not as big of a deal if you have

embarrassing tweets, or silly Instagram photos,

because nearly...

HEFFNER: Well, yeah, I mean...

LITMAN: I mean, there are lines...

HEFFNER: Embarrassing to, right, right...

LITMAN: But, there's a difference between...

HEFFNER: [LAUGHTER]

LITMAN: Um, say a photo of you playing beer pong in college...

HEFFNER: Right.

LITMAN: And uh, tweeting something egregiously

racist, like our president does on a regular basis.

And voters are showing what they're willing

to accept, and we try and focus more on the former

than, and deny the latter, but,

uh, our candidates are really comfortable online,

and I think that makes a difference.

In another way, they're able to connect with voters.

HEFFNER: Well I, question myself now, Amanda,

LITMAN: [LAUGHTER]

HEFFNER: Because you have to be unafraid to run today,

LITMAN: Oh it's...

HEFFNER: You might have...

LITMAN: Horrible.

HEFFNER: Had to be unafraid in the H.W. Bush era.

You remember, the Willy Horton ad...

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: There are always attempts to um,

undermine your campaign or candidacy through attack ads.

It's, it's definitely gotten higher velocity,

meaner, uglier recently, but you know the people

who volunteer and seek out your support you know,

they do have, they really have to be unafraid.

LITMAN: Our candidates, why our candidates are so

inspiring, is that they are willing to put their

lives out there, to live publicly.

Um, it's also worth noting that most city council,

schoolboard, town supervisor elections,

don't get that nasty, in part because it's personal.

Um, I at one point talked to a local elected

official who was telling me,

yeah, you know, I don't get attacked as much,

because the person I'm attacking,

I probably run into their mom at the grocery store

the next day, or I see them,

um, at religious services the following weekend.

Because it's so local and so small,

you don't get as nasty in that kind of way.

HEFFNER: You cite the diversity of the party.

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: It's at a crossroads in its desire

to continue to embrace a pluralistic vision that

was heralded by the most recent Democratic

president, Barack Obama.

And at the same time, there's a desire on the

party to not sacrifice, uh,

voters who do have tribal appeals.

Uh, and the reality is, the most visceral appeal

to any human being, is their flesh.

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: How are you grappling with this,

as someone who's worked for Democratic candidates

and has sought out um, to find a medium between

modernizing the party to the point that the

pluralism does not become overly sanctimonious...

LITMAN: Hmm.

HEFFNER: And it also doesn't become uh,

problematic in that you are making an identity

politics argument, just as much as your opponent is.

LITMAN: I think it's important to think about,

uh, diversity is not important just for diversity's sake.

It matters that our elected officials

and that our community leaders, uh, reflect the communities

they're from, and reflect the voters

that they're trying to engage with, um, in part

because those lived experiences influence

how they govern and how they legislate.

Um, I think it is ridiculous to dismiss

identity politics as unimportant, uh,

you only have the luxury of doing that if

you're a white man for who your identity is the norm.

Um, as a young woman or a young person of color,

it matters to see people like you leading,

uh, and governing, in part because you know

that they're not, they're keeping in mind

the problems that you face as a particular part of a community.

Um, that's something that we as Democrats

can't dismiss out of hand, because the other side isn't going to.

HEFFNER: Right.

Uh, how do you best respond to a backlash

against the election of people who are different from you?

I mean this is the story of the Obama and Trump

legacy now, in part that it was a rebuke of,

or, or a kind of dis-ownership of that more

diverse story of America.

LITMAN: Um, I think part of it is just,

keep getting people running who will fight

back against it, and are willing to argue loudly

and vigorously, that it matters that their voices are heard.

I think, you know, when we're filming this,

it's in the midst of the KKK and Nazis in

Charlottesville and, and a rise of white supremacy

is feeling legitimized, and it is equally,

and in fact, even more so important,

to have people who can push back against that,

because those are folks who are claiming identity

politics as their own.

HEFFNER: You're more encouraged at the state

level when it comes to the practical realities

of running a campaign in terms of the money factor.

You were involved in digital operations for a

gubernatorial candidate, a presidential candidate.

Uh, can the emphasis be placed more on people in

the local elections, or how much uh,

is, is money still as much a concern,

just scaled back, proportional to whatever

constituency we're talking about?

LITMAN: Well, money matters.

In any campaign, uh, the two metrics

you have of whether someone is going to support

you is their vote, which your not gonna find out until election

day, or your investment in their organization,

which is either their time,

or more publicly, their money.

So, it does matter that candidates are able

to get others to invest in their organization.

That being said, 75 percent of schoolboard

races, schoolboard races cost $1,000 or less.

85 percent cost $5,000 or less uh,

many city counsel races range in the 10 to 20

thousand dollar range, depending on where

you are in the media market, and what you're investing in.

um, state legislative races can vary depending

from state to state.

Uh, it is definitely harder, the bigger the race you're in,

to raise that kind of money,

but it is ultimately not as much as you'd think,

and I think our candidates are finding that,

when they reach out to their friends and their

neighbors, you know, their initial circle,

the people who know them and trust them,

they are surprised at who will step up to give.

HEFFNER: How many of the positions that folks

are running for, are paid?

You know, you have...

LITMAN: Yeah.

HEFFNER: Positions in this country,

from County Executive, to State Legislator,

that may or may not have salary.

LITMAN: Many of the state legislators or most,

I believe all state legislators are paid in some form.

Some of them are as small as $400 a year, plus a per diem.

Some of them are full time jobs,

where it's $100,000 a year.

Um, the structure of our institutions determine

the people who enter them.

I wish that those institutions were better paid.

I wish that they were more accessible to people who

can take off time from work,

or who don't have to work a second job in order to fill them.

The best way to fix that is for more people to run,

win, and pass legislation [LAUGHTER] that does that.

There isn't an easy answer to fixing the system

that will happen tomorrow.

HEFFNER: But that's such a predicament to be in,

because one thing voters don't want to hear is,

at least not from their elected officials,

LITMAN: Yeah.

HEFFNER: The rent is too damn high or,

my salary isn't enough.

LITMAN: It sucks. There, I wish I had a better answer for it.

You know, I think it's telling that in states

where the, uh, chambers and the state legislators

have a more accommodating schedule,

you get more women.

So, one of the reasons New Hampshire has the first

all female delegation of members of congress,

is because they're, uh, New Hampshire legislature

is predominantly women, in part because it's more

accessible for, uh, mothers and uh,

stay at home moms who can enter.

HEFFNER: But I want you to reflect on this question

of how, how can you get the paradigm to shift.

LITMAN: I think it'll everybody tough.

Uh, there are a lot of great organizations,

including the State Innovation Exchange and

others that uh, help state legislators figure

out how to navigate these kinds of policy waters. Uh...

HEFFNER: I mean you wonder why bribery is so rampant and why

there are investigations into nearly, uh, every legislative body,

be it one member or an executive officer like a governor.

I mean it, it...

LITMAN: Well,

HEFFNER: It seems...

LITMAN: I think state...

HEFFNER: Is it, am I too intuitive, reading

into this that these local are not being paid or paid adequately,

they are gonna seek an alternative?

LITMAN: Well, I hope that's not true of our candidates.

HEFFNER: I'm not saying this for your candidates.

You're, you're describing the candidates who might

revise this, this cycle.

LITMAN: Yeah, I mean, I think that it matters

that we pay and treat our elected officials fairly.

It's true that, say, the time commitment of a city

council man or a schoolboard member is

different from that of a state legislator,

um, which is different from that of a member of congress.

Um, and if we want our state legislators to be

reflective of their communities,

and be more than just wealthy people who can

afford to take time off, we need to make our

structures such that those kinds of people can enter.

HEFFNER: It mind boggling to hear you say that,

take time off, because you then presume that,

and I do, some of these legislators,

they'll meet every other year...

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: Budgets are ratified and put into

motion on the time-table of the governor.

In other states, legislative bodies are more empowered.

Where, where do you see, among your candidates,

the states that are more successful right now,

in a model to how, how to prepare a legislative

process that is inviting of candidates who

want to serve the public.

LITMAN: It's a really interesting question.

I'm not sure I can point to any specific state

that does it particularly well.

I think New Hampshire is one,

uh, Florida gets closer-ish.

HEFFNER: How so?

LITMAN: Um...

HEFFNER: You deal with a lot of states, so you know...

LITMAN: I deal with a lot of states. Uh...

HEFFNER: Whether the legislators are paid,

whether or not they're uh, what the terms are,

term limits, uh...

LITMAN: Well, Florida, so, Florida has pretty strict term limits.

I think California does a good job,

in that they pay their state legislators extremely well.

Uh, a few others in particular,

I think, like New York city council is actually

a really interesting example,

in that there are term limits,

uh, which means there's a lot of turnover,

and a lot of uh, ways for new people to get engaged.

There's also public financing.

Any state that has public financing,

or any city that has public financing,

means that people who can't afford to raise it

directly from their networks have access to

resources that creates more of an equal playing field.

HEFFNER: There then is competition...

LITMAN: Yeah.

HEFFNER: In some states, you have to be a financier

to enter the race, in effect, or have some capitol,

especially if you're not gonna be paid.

LITMAN: In some places, yeah, which is really unfortunate.

HEFFNER: Which brings us to a broader philosophical question,

which I know you contemplated writing the book.

And you clearly would say, yes,

they deserve to be paid: servants of the public.

LITMAN: In many places it's a job,

and you deserve to get paid fairly for that job.

I would not say that's my primary goal...

HEFFNER: No, no I,

LITMAN: Yeah.

HEFFNER: I know it's not your primary goal, but I, I,...

LITMAN: It's,

HEFFNER: That, that is a,

LITMAN: It is definitely one,

HEFFNER: Principle obstacle.

LITMAN: One of the things that we can fix in our

systems in order to make them more accessible to

more people, which I think,

in the long run is really important.

Would I say it's the number one priority

of any state legislature? No.

But, uh, in some cases, in particular where

there is progressive majorities, there is

room for flexibility here. And there is potential.

HEFFNER: How do you hope, after the first year

of this project, what would you hope is the outcome?

We've talked specifically now about the nature

of local representation, but we've focused in

particular on the legislative bodies.

What about other offices, and your hope that there

can be some policy objectives carried out

through the election of these representatives?

LITMAN: I am really excited about some of the

places we're working, where Democrats haven't

run and organized in quite some time.

Uh, for example, Kansas, uh,

Oklahoma, uh, some districts in Texas,

even some places in Virginia,

where we're running candidates who are in

districts that, uh, Democrats have let go,

uncontested, for decades.

These are places that maybe our candidates won't

win, but the organizing they're doing,

the fact that they're standing up campaigns,

focusing on voter contact, getting volunteers

engaged, and then, no matter what happens on

election day, staying engaged,

is the literal definition of party building,

and it's how we eventually win these places,

even if it's not in one year or two years, or five years.

HEFFNER: Unsung positions of value,

that folks don't realize,

LITMAN: Yes.

HEFFNER: What's the top, what's at that opioid of that list?

LITMAN: Schoolboard.

Schoolboard, schoolboard, schoolboard.

Um, depending on the state,

uh, they tend to have different,

uh, levels of education policy you can get engaged with.

Um, the one that comes out to mind to me, is Texas.

Um, the Texas State Board of Education,

because Texas is one of the largest textbook

markets in the country, uh,

gets line item veto over what's in their school

textbooks, which means publishers,

uh, focus their efforts to what the Texas schoolboard

and the State Board of Education will approve.

That's how you get creationism in text books,

uh, that's how you get a whitewashed version of

history in textbooks.

Uh, it matters to have progressives in these positions.

Uh, think about some of the,

uh, transgender rights fights in schools.

Uh, often the places where a community decides

what they value, is in the school.

Uh, so I think it matters to have progressives

in these positions across the country.

It's also where you tend to get the best,

uh, candidates from, long-term,

because these are people that are rooted

in a community.

And schoolboards are more diverse.

I believe 44 percent of schoolboard,

uh, members are women.

HEFFNER: Are schoolboard positions paid.

LITMAN: Uh, it varies from place to place, often not.

They're often volunteer.

HEFFNER: Well, I think you said to our viewers,

schoolboard, schoolboard, schoolboard,

LITMAN: Those were the words.

[LAUGHTER] HEFFNER: I think you're right.

LITMAN: Yeah.

HEFFNER: I think you're right.

How did the Democrats, after premiering and

pledging, promising a 50 state strategy,

winning back congress in 2006,

then ultimately just, everything fell, fell off the wagon.

LITMAN: Mm-hmm.

HEFFNER: The promise was made of a continued

fifty state strategy. What happened.

LITMAN: Uh, an economic crash,

war, uh, hurricanes, you know a lot of uh,

major crises that the president had to deal with.

Uh, and this, you also saw,

you, I think you saw, uh, a lot of people who got

engaged for the president, and then didn't stay

engaged because there wasn't someone leading

the charge in their local area.

Um, I think we got a little complacent, and that's unfortunate.

The, the only possible silver lining of a Trump

presidency, is that people are waking up,

they're realizing this matters,

that politics directly affects their lives,

and they can't sit back and let someone else care

about it for them.

Um, it is the only good thing to come out of the

November election.

HEFFNER: Amanda.

Thank you for joining me today.

LITMAN: Thank you for having me. This was fun.

Stossel: Ayn Rand–The Author People Love to Hate - Duration: 4:50.

People love

to hate Ayn Rand.

You are out to destroy

almost every edifice

in the contemporary American way of life.

60 years

to the day

after "Atlas Shrugged" was published,

people STILL feel compelled

to pan her.

Ayn Rand became famous

for her philosophy of objectivism

which is a nice way of saying

being a selfish asshole.

Atlas Shrugged and Rand's other books

are about many such

"self-interested people".

Mr. Rearden,

you wouldn't want it misunderstood that

you work for nothing

but your own profit?

Indeed I want it understood clearly.

And how does that benefit your fellow man?

Thousands of jobs, billions in revenue,

fueling our economy

despite your efforts to destroy

the very foundation of our existence.

Rand argued

that even if entrepreneurs and creators are "selfish"

so what?

They create opportunities for others.

They never got that.

But I'm glad these people do.

They love Rand's heroes.

They had an idea,

people told them "you can't do that,

that's too selfish,

that's too

out of the ordinary",

They did it anyways.

And they're successful.

So being selfish themselves in the end

helped out a lot of people.

Through

me wanting to make more money,

I may create an invention

that may improve the standard

of living for millions and millions of people.

These young people

are part of an organization called "Turning Point USA",

a group that tries to get Atlas Shrugged

read more on campuses.

We're on over 1100 college and high school campuses

across the country.

But the campuses are

not listening to you

or you're a tiny

fraction of the political discussion.

You would be surprised at how big

the following is

and how much appetite there is actually for this.

Atlas describes an America where government

passes so many rules that

most of the economy just shuts down.

That idea horrified people who

like regulation.

I find it abhorrent.

I really do.

Why was the left so

enraged by it?

Because she was

and is

effective.

She wasn't talking about economics

in terms of practical good.

She was talking about

your having a right

to your own life.

Jennifer Grossman of the Atlas Society

loves seeing young people

discover a new way to

think about things.

I'm a Peace Corps baby.

I was raised in a community

where I had never

seen a conservative

except in caricature.

Libertarians were either stupid

or evil.

And when I went to Harvard,

which was a bastion of liberalism,

I actually found

a couple of

people who didn't fit that stereotype.

So I decided I needed to go back and do some thinking

And some reading.

She says she found the 12,000 page novel…

a "spiritual experience".

Spiritual?

It's about business.

I think it's about overcoming odds.

It's about not allowing people to take advantage of you

and feeling bad about pursuing your

own interests.

The consensus of the best metallurgical authorities

are highly skeptical.

I'm not interested in their opinions.

Then whose do you go by?

My own.

In America, the social justice people are winning

and people who wear dollar signs on their

dress are vilified.

They completely marginalized Ayn Rand.

They completely took this stuff out of the classroom

and now when they're introduced to it,

they freak out.

In a good way, she means.

People are surprised

when they see how freedom-minded

college students are.

They're socialists.

They're not socialists.

Admittedly Bernie Sanders' biggest portion

of his support came from young people.

But our generation is split in a really ironic way.

60% think socialism is a good idea

and then 70% say they don't want to pay

higher taxes and they don't trust the government.

So they just don't understand what socialism really is.

The first day of class we had a student that walked in

and opened his laptop and on that

laptop there were a ton of Bernie bro stickers,

and "I love socialism".

So the very next day

I brought to class a

ton of stickers,

laptop stickers that said

"This laptop was brought to you by capitalism."

Towards the end of the semester

I had most of the class on my side.

With the help of a book

that's 60 years old today.

Fiction is more powerful than facts.

Facts are more important,

but maybe fiction

does a better job teaching people

what really matters.

Top 10 Actors Who Would Make A Good Joker - Duration: 6:31.

Hey guys!

Welcome back to Top 10 Nerd, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.

Over the years we've seen some pretty amazing portrayals of the Joker.

If you'd like to see some of my favourites, check out our "Top 10 Joker Portrayals" video

on the channel!

However, time moves on, and we constantly find ourselves in need of new actors to fill

the comically large shoes.

Get it?

Because he's a clown but also there are big shoes to fill?

Now get ready to write your favourite directors, because it's time for the Top 10 Actors Who

Would Be a Good Joker!

Number 10: Matt Smith.

Chances are you'll know Matt Smith from Doctor Who, where he played the title role.

I'll be honest, I've really only seen him in Doctor Who, but based on what I've seen

he'd be a pretty awesome Joker.

We've seen him shift from manic and happy to dark and brooding in an instant, something

that would serve him very well as The Joker.

He could even keep the bowtie!

Plus, we've seen what he could possibly look like as Joker, minus the lipstick, in the

uber-creepy Rebel Flesh episode of Doctor Who Finally, he has an enormous chin.

And with the Joker, the chin is like, half the battle.

Number 9: Michael Fassbender.

Fassbender is a great actor, and has shown that he's able to take on both a heroic and

villainous role if need be.

I'm sure he'd do a great job as the Joker, especially given his impressive vocal range.

But honestly, I just want him to be Joker for his smile.

Because holy crap, it's like a shark smiling at you.

There would be something so beautiful about having a Joker with a grin that's so incredibly

intimidating; every smirk would strike fear into friend and foe alike.

The only question is, how would the writers find a way to make the Joker hang dong?

Because Fassbender needs to whip that monster out at least once a movie.

Number 8: Christopher Walken.

Christopher Walken would be a pretty cool take on an older Joker.

He doesn't exactly have the vocal range that others on this list have, but I think that

he, more than any of the others, would make the part his own, and bring us a really different

take on the popular villain.

Walken would take the Joker in a completely different direction, both with his unique

voice and physicality, but it could give the character a whole new dimension.

And his strange mannerisms and erratic behaviour would fit beautifully.

I'll admit that this would also be the most dangerous choice because it has the potential

to be really really bad, but I have faith.

Walken is awesome.

Number 7: Daniel Day-Lewis.

Daniel Day-Lewis is one of those actors who could be found on any number of these lists;

Honestly, he could probably play Mary Poppins and be convincing, the guy can ACT.

With his huge amount of experience and critical acclaim, we all know that Daniel Day-Lewis

has the acting chops to pull this part off, plus he straight up has the perfect head shape

for the role.

I'm not saying all casting decisions should be based on head shape, but holy crap the

dude is just a handsome version of Joker, with such a long, angular face.

It's somewhat unlikely that he would actually DO a superhero film, but ya never know!

Don't crush my dreams!

Number 6: Jim Carrey.

Yeah, yeah, I know he's already been the Riddler, but if Josh Brolin can do it, Jim Carrey can

too!

I think of all the members on this list, Jim Carrey is by far the best equipped to play

an over-the-top Joker.

While he may not be quite as flexible nowadays at 55, I think he would give an awesome presence

to the role.

Plus, with his work in more serious movies, and the push towards more complex villains,

I think he'd have a great opportunity to show the dark, twisted side of the Joker and the

humorous side as well.

Number 5: Willem Dafoe.Willem Dafoe is another actor who could do a great job with an older

Joker.

There are so many stories of older Joker that we haven't seen, he'd be perfect!

His face alone is just so unique, with a huge, menacing smile and so many awesome wrinkles.

I mean, just look at him.

How is he not an awesome Joker?

We know he can kill it on the villain front after seeing him as Green Goblin, and it would

be so cool to see him as one of the most prolific villains in both Marvel and DC!

Number 4: Iwan Rheon (Ey-wahn Ray-on).

Definitely said that wrong.

Now, I first came upon Iwan in Misfits where he was playing a super shy and subdued kid,

but most people know him as good ol' Ramsay Bolton from Game of Thrones.

If you've seen him on Game of Thrones, you'll know why he's on this list.

The guy has the capacity to just ooze creepiness, something the Joker definitely shares.

His soft, menacing lines, his creepy as hell smile, and we all know that he can flip out

if the situation calls for it.

He would make for a pretty awesome Joker.

If you're looking for a younger Joker, Iwan Rheon would be a cool choice!

Especially if he changes his name so I can stop slaughtering it!

Number 3: Christoph Waltz.

We've seen Waltz play the villain role quite a bit in recent years, as Hans Landa in Inglourious

Basterds and Blofeld in Spectre, and he is consistently incredible.

To play the Joker you need to command the attention of the audience, and Waltz has that

down to a science.

He can go straight up insane if he has to, but he's also the king of the reeled in but

menacing line.

Best line in the film.

So good.

Plus, his accent would make for a totally chilling Joker voice, especially if he altered

it slightly to be a bit more Americanized.

It may not be so imaginative to say "Hey, you know that guy being lauded as an amazing

villain?

He'd be a good Joker."

But it's true.

He would.

Number 2: Me!

As if I'd pass up this chance, you kidding me?

One of my favourite things to do is to do random rants in the shower as different characters,

and Joker is one of my favourites.

Not because I'm good, but because it's so fun!

And since it's my list and I'm the boss, I'll be subjecting you all to my Joker.

Get ready to skip: "Now comes the part where I relieve you, the little people, of the burden

of your failed and useless lives.

But remember, as my plastic surgeon always said: if you gotta go, go with a smile."

So uh, Mr. Snyder, if you're watching...

Hit me uuuuup.

Now, you may be wondering why I didn't go ahead and put myself as number one.

Well, I'm happy to bump those other actors in favour of a joke, but I wouldn't dare disrespect

the next guy.

Number 1: Mark Hamill.

I feel like pretty much any list of Jokers needs to have Mark Hamill as number one, but

this one would be particularly amazing because he's never actually gotten a chance to play

the Joker in real life!

We all know he's got the voice down pat, and I think he'd be able to nail the physicality

as well.

I would be sooooo on board with a live-action Hamill Joker; Put him as Joker, throw in Pierce

Brosnan as Batman, and bam we've got Batman and Joker battling it out in their sixties!

Make it so! Whoops, wrong fandom.

That's it for today!

Hope you guys enjoyed, if you did please smack that thumbs up button and subscribe to Top

10 Nerd for more videos!

Hollywood Actor Makes Lifelong Enemy Of Mike Pence After What He Said About Karen Pence - Duration: 20:25.

Hollywood Actor Makes Lifelong Enemy Of Mike Pence After What He Said About Karen Pence

Well, Mike Pence pissed off a liberal.

No surprise there.

Calling Mike Pence a "selfish fuck" is not what we'd expect from that.

The Hollywood left has officially lost their minds.

This one rant from a Hollywood liberal named Michael Rapaport shows just that.

"Atypical" actor Michael Rapaport gave his commentary on Vice President Mike Pence

making his resounding statement by walking out of the Colts game after the 49ers decided

to continue the kneeling disrespect of our flag.

Rapaport wasn't offended by the disrespect of the flag, but by the VP walking out of

the game.

There was a sifting through the highlights of the repugnant videos and Rapaport seems

to have missed the point.

Rapaport said, "Vice president Mike White Pence left the Colts-'49ers game as soon

as it started because he was so offended by the players' kneeling and protesting.

You selfish f–k, you.

You should have given those tickets to somebody who would have appreciated it, you f–k."

Rapaport continued, "Of course, he put this out in a statement because he's afraid to

speak in public, because he might scream out, 'I-I-I love dick.'"

Rapaport wasn't done, "Vice president White Mike Pence, the world's most famous

person with no lips.

Yo, White Mike Pence — your mouth looks like a petrified a–hole."

Nor was Rapaport content to leave it at Pence, he also targeted Pence's wife.

"Mike Pence is such a sick f–k that he refers to his wife as 'mother,' and he

won't be around another woman without a chaperone.

Even I don't know how to follow that up," Rapaport said.

"Mike Pence is the worldwide leader in hating gay and lesbian people.

Come on, man, we know what the f**k that is.

Come on out, man; wear that pink and purple lipstick," Rapaport said.

"The good people in the LGBT community will welcome you with open arms, and you could

welcome them with an open mouth."

Pence issued a statement after he left the game on Sunday: "I left today's Colts

game because President Trump and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers,

our Flag, or our National Anthem," Pence later said in a statement.

What do you think about this from Breitbart?

Key Reason Arrogant Hillary Lost Finally Revealed By Silicon Valley Tech Giants - Duration: 20:25.

Key

Reason Arrogant Hillary Lost Finally Revealed By Silicon Valley Tech Giants

The Facebook ads story has been trending for a while.

Now some people believe that Trump advertising on Facebook is the key reason that Hillary

lost.

That could have something to do with it, but we know damn well that Hillary's criminal

background didn't appeal to smart voters.

The DailyMail reported that Hillary Clinton and her campaign rejected the offer of help

from Facebook.

There were still tons of positive stories and ads for Clinton on the website.

During an interview with CBS News, Mr. Parscale said that Facebook employees 'would show

up for work every day in our offices' to help maximize their use of the social media

website and target voters.

He believes that Trump using Facebook was the key reason that Trump won the election.

I don't believe that.

It likely helped, but until polls and numbers have been churned out, I won't believe that

it is the leading reason.

Remember Hillary Clinton is a criminal.

'Facebook now lets you get to places and places possibly that you would never go with

TV ads.

Now, I can find, you know, 15 people in the Florida Panhandle that I would never buy a

TV commercial for.

And, we took opportunities that I think the other side didn't.'

Mr. Parscale also claims he was allowed to handpick Republican employees to help, but

the company denies this.

Facebook insists it offered similar help to all candidates during the election.

Facebook released a statement to CBS News that basically said that they encourage all

candidates to advertise on Facebook.

The biggest problem with this, they're trying to get you to put all your eggs in one basket.

The future of American votes may be won on the digital front, but the only way to properly

select a candidate is to do your own independent research.

What do you think

Metro Manners PSA: Super Kind - Aisle Blocking ブロキング - Duration: 1:47.

[bell rings]

Super....

Kind!

I see you blocking the aisle...

...that's a rude thing to do.

This causes problems because people can't get around you.

So when you bring your things

like bikes or luggage

put them in the proper place

that's Metro etiquette.

When you're on the train,

you need to leave some space

so we can go about our day.

Don't block the doors or block the aisles.

That is not okay.

You need to leave some space

so can you please get out the way.

Leave some room for the rest of us.

Mel Robbins: What Do You Really Need ( Mel Robbins Coaching ) - Duration: 5:15.

I want you to start seeing something bigger I know you're all successful I'm

talking about something really big for your life

And in order to do that you have to answer this question what do you really

want now I'm not talking about something small I'm not talking about a little

haiku I'm not talking about renovating your kitchen I'm not talking about

signing on 10 new customers this month I'm talking about what you really want

you know three years ago I was a lawyer and a business coach working with

private clients and big corporations all over the country and I came to a seminar

just like this one a big leadership seminar and I went there with my husband

were both business owners and I went because I wanted to be more successful

and I went because I wanted to make even more money than I already did and I was

sitting exactly where yoga are in fact I was sitting about you know 15 rows back

right where that woman with the hand on her hand like yet you know she's like hi

it was sitting and I was taking notes and I'm like okay I'm here to make more

money and then all of a sudden she walked on stage that is Martha Beck she

writes a column for Oprah Winfrey she travels around the country speaking

she's a best-selling author and when she walked on stage I literally stopped

listening please keep listening to me right now

and it hits me I said I want to be doing that I'm ready for a bigger state like

that's it and what's so interesting about when you

answer that question is that you don't answer it up here you answer it here

that's how you see something bigger for yourself you know you guys are really

cute because everybody is like I don't see it what do you I don't see anything

for myself right I and now I'm just confused I thought I knew what I wanted

you know and now nella I'm not really sure and right now the economy is so bad

I mean it's so bad that even if you're successful I know sometimes I feel

embarrassed talking about my success around some of my friends because I know

that they're really struggling and I get calls every day into the radio show

people saying oh I've got this great idea but I just don't know if it's the

right time and you know what I say to them I say yeah you know you're right

the recession it's it's huge you should wait those dreams yeah put them on hold

that's right yeah you you should you should stay in that job you can't stand

just a little bit long you get college bills to pay I mean you know what you're

doing it's fine you're busy right that guy you're dating he's good enough for

you but for the people in this room baloney you know that's right you know

exactly what you want and the only thing that you need to do is to admit it now

this may sound weird because I know most of you came in here because you're like

I know what I want I'm you're at success it's try to figure it out I'm talking

about something bigger much bigger I'll admit to you what it is that I'm up to

and the truth is it's embarrassing because when you lock on to something

way bigger than where you're at it is downright embarrassing to tell people

because you're not there yet but I mean at this rate I've already admitted to

you that I stalked Martha Beck and that I brought a haiku to the best you know

Liddy in the country so I got nothing to lose

at this point so this is what I want

well not him I'm married I want what he's got I want six hundred radio

stations I want two million listeners and I could certainly deal with the four

hundred million dollar salary in fact if I got it I'd renovate everybody's

kitchen and you know the thing is though that's so interesting about this is that

I didn't pick him I mean I'm not looking to become a cigar smoking conservative

political guy that like stirs the pot makes everybody all mad I'm the liberal

lifestyle gal that's trying to help people out but what I want to do is I

want to use radio to entertain people and help them achieve their dreams and

when I really think about it he's the one that's in the front I want to not

only reach what he's doing I want to surpass him I mean do you think I like

it when my friends come over to my office in Boston at my house and they're

like why does that guy doing on your board no it's embarrassing when you

admit the big thing that you're up to it's embarrassing

I have 40 stations he's got 600 there's a big gap so admitting where you want to

get to is embarrassing but you got to do it
