Woodturning A Tall Ash Goblet - Duration: 5:46.

Hi, Alan Stratton from As Wood Turns.

(http://www.AsWoodTurns.com) As I said in the last video, I struck it rich

in the club raffle with these two pieces of, what I believe is, ash.

This one is ash sapwood.

And, as it has turned out is about 8" long and 2" in diameter.

I decided to make a goblet.

I have not made one for a while.

I did not go to an extreme but I think this will be a nice use of that piece of wood.

I've mounted the wood between centers.

I prefer a steb center clone on the spindle.

The task now is to make the wood round and to turn a tenon on one end.

My tenon will be smaller for my small shark jaws.

Let's get this part done quickly.

Now I can remount the wood into my chuck.

With this much long piece of wood hanging out, perhaps I should have made the tenon

longer or used my steady rest.

But it is working okay this time.

I'm hollowing the end grain with a medium spindle gouge.

I could have drilled a started hole but that takes time.

I'm doing fine without one.

I just need to focus on keeping the gouge flute mostly closed relative to the wood.

Then work from the inside to the outside.

When I'm nearly to the shape I want, I'm switching to a round nose scraper.

Then sand the inner cup part and apply lacquer.

As I continue, I'm placing a tennis ball in the cup for gentle tail stock pressure.

Then after marking the depth of the hollow on the exterior, I can form the upper exterior

with my spindle gouge.

With the tennis ball I can check the wall thickness multiple times until it is right.

Now sand and finish the cup exterior.

The wood will start to flex and move so I have to do at least my sanding now.

Next, I've marked just higher than the middle of the stem for a center feature.

And I can turn away the wood with the spindle gouge.

I caught the gouge wing on the bottom portion and had to reset the wood in the chuck.

Fortunately, it did not break.

I'm using a skew for final smoothing for the small stem.

I sanded this portion but did not apply finish yet.

Now for the center stem feature.

I don't want a plain long skinny stem.

This feature will provide some visual interest to the stem.

And not just show off.

And, of course, sand and finish this section of the stem.

It does not take much to sand thin spindles.

I just need to focus on not sanding off the edges of the feature.

Next is the bottom of the stem.

With only a plain stem, it does not take much before I'm sanding this little bit.

Finally, the goblet's base.

I'm ending the base a couple of inches above the jaws.

Too often, I've made the base too close to the jaws and then had a tough time undercutting

the base and parting off the goblet.

So, I'm leaving more wood this time.

The base needs to be big enough to stabilize this tall goblet.

Now sand and finish the remining wood through the base.

Here's where it gets scary.

After all the work to cut, sand, and finish the goblet, can I undercut the base and part

it off without ruining the goblet.

Despite my fears, I have to go on.

I wasted the remaining wood to give room to undercut the base and turn the waste down

to about 1/8 inch and a little below the base.

Then I stopped the lathe and broke off the goblet.

The little extra wood prevented the break from going into the base.

Then I sanded the base with a 2" pad on the drill press.

After signing the base, I returned to the drill press for a light final sand to remove

scorching.

Then applied lacquer to the underside of the base.

I wonder if Mike Waldt, the goblet master, will approve of this goblet.

But no matter what Mike says, I like my tall goblet.

Maybe next time, I will turn captive rings.

Baker Mayfield: I would thrive under Giants pressure

— Yeah, he could see it, and what a beautiful vision it would be.

The Giants have the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft and could use it on their next franchise quarterback. Baker Mayfield is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and will go fairly high in the first round.

As high as the second pick? Probably not, but you never know and what a trip it would be if Mayfield and the Giants are a match.

"Throwing the ball to Engram, Shep and Odell Beckham wouldn't be too bad, there's some studs right there,'' Mayfield said Friday inside the Mall of America, referring to Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard and Odell Beckham Jr.

"Being there, it's a big-time franchise and in the spotlight, I think I thrive on that. That would be an ideal situation.''.

Mayfield and Shepard were college teammates at Oklahoma, so that would be a reunion. As far as Mayfield's contention the Giants would be "an ideal situation,'' they do have Eli Manning returning for a 15th season.

Mayfield said "absolutely'' when asked if he could play immediately. "I'm ready to go in and compete, I'm not gonna wait lightly,'' he said, "but obviously sitting behind Eli would be a great situation.

Mayfield met with the Jets, who have the No. 6 pick in the draft, at the Senior Bowl and said it "went well, I thought it did.

He had a meeting scheduled with the Giants but it never happened "since my time was cut a little bit short and didn't get to do that but I will have one,'' said Mayfield, who has a new autograph deal with Panini, the exclusive trading card company of the NFL.

Already, Mayfield is hearing from NFL personnel in love with his talent but concerned with his comportment. He has shown a rambunctious side and NFL types are often afraid of that side.

"A lot of the stuff is off the field,'' Mayfield said of the questions he is hearing from NFL executives and scouts. "Whether I'm gonna be the next Johnny Manziel.

That's the biggest question I've already had to address a lot, whether I'm going to grow up and I'm going to handle all the things coming my way the right way or if I'm not.

"For me, it's just being honest, showing 'em I love the game. Yeah, there's a lot of passion to it, but there's mistakes that I've had but I've learned from them and I'm ready to move forward and prove that.''.

As for Manziel, Mayfield said, "He was a great player, we're not the same off the field though.

Standing only 6 foot, there are also concerns Mayfield is not tall enough to see over the offensive linemen and avoid getting his passes batted down by defensive linemen rushing with their arms outstretched.

"They ask about it, they're going to ask how big my hands are, worried about the ball size but I have games of playing in the rain, playing in the snow,'' Mayfield said.

"If you can grab a ball and throw it, you can grab a ball and throw it.

I don't care how tall you are either, you're not gonna see over a 6-7 left tackle when you're throwing, you got to find lanes, you got to know where your guys are. It's not about the height.

If you can win ballgames you can win.''. Mayfield is slightly taller than Russell Wilson and the same height as Drew Brees.

"The way they command their guys, the way they lead 'em, they drive 'em to be better,'' Mayfield said, "I think that's a similarity.

What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip #33 Punishment - Duration: 2:15.

- Hey everybody how are you, it's Jeff Gellman

of Solid K9 Training with my What Would Jeff Do?

Dog Training Tip of the day, tip number 33.

Proper punishment, there's actually something called

proper punishment, how to properly punish your dog.

The reason I want to do a tip on this,

and in other videos or in a longer format video

we can talk about like how to actually do the punishment,

but I talk about punishment a lot.

Keep in mind in our training center I would say 90 percent

of the time we're doing rewards.

We do a lot of reward based training,

but to stop unwanted behavior,

we're always doing punishment.

People are always saying, "Well how do you punish a dog?

"Do you yell at it, do you scream at it,

"do you put it in its crate, like what do you do?"

So what we do to punish a dog is

there has to be something intolerable to the dog.

So it's a consequence that's intolerable.

It's used to stop an unwanted behavior.

It's used to stop a dangerous behavior.

Without punishment you're not going

to be able to stop unwanted behaviors.

Without punishment, you're not going to be able to proof

a wanted known command without a consequence.

So you can use anything from a pet convincer, which is air,

you can use a bonker, which is a towel.

You can use a remote collar; you can use

a leash and a collar, we prefer

prong collars, a leash and a prong.

But what punishment is not is this:

you're not yelling at your dog.

You're not screaming at your dog.

You're not angry at your dog.

You don't have to get physical with your dog.

You're not putting your dog in a timeout.

Those aren't punishments, the dog doesn't understand that.

For us a punishment should last one second,

that's it, it's done, now let's move on.

That's how we look at punishments.

So our rewards are YES with something nice,

and our punishments are NO with something

that the dog doesn't like.

So that's my tip of the day.

I can get into way more details, as we do

for the last 10 years, about like different ways to punish,

but I just wanted to throw that out there as a tip.

KSI Already Lost His Fight With Joe Weller - Duration: 4:33.

I've seen some of chaos eyes videos and from what I've observed the dude isn't all that funny unique or interesting

And to be honest I have no idea who Joe Weller is before I made this video

I looked up a couple of stories about the fight. Just try and get some information

You know get informed about the beef between these two, but funny enough all the drama surrounding these guys was so boring

I actually just clicked away later on I saw ksi post a video from the press conference

He and Joe did leading up the fight and honestly

It doesn't make me want to make this video because after watching that press conference

It's already become obvious to me though whether he wins or loses in Saturday's fight case

I already lost his battle of Joe Weller forced laughter dominates the event as every time anyone speaks

Ksi leans into his microphone and bursts out into a stereo Joe

Well are talking better laugh at that cuz they don't look like a total alpha

Someone else has something better laugh at that tube. Don't look even more alpha

Anytime anyone says something anytime someone just looks at their microphone

Ksi has to say something the dude has to laugh and I get it the dudes in an arena packed with his own fans

Anyone in that scenario would probably be filming themselves

But as fun as it is to clown on ksi for just make himself look like an idiot throughout the whole press conference

Everything I've said so far is pretty forgivable. We've seen a lot of big-name fighters

Talk to talk before the fight gets people interested, but what I'm about to show you is something

I've never seen from a professional fighter before it's the exact reason why no matter the result

Joe Weller has already beaten ksi, and then you lose to a fat black titty milk virgin that played free fuck

You know in case I saying in this statement. He's covering his losses. He's saying

It's just so self-deprecating so I might soon you get beat by a guy that had double feet

It's talking about your own manboobs look. How smug this dude is when he takes his shirt off and his fans start cheering

It's so hypocritical one minute. It's hey everyone look. I have man boobs and the next it's damn

I'm ripped make up your damn mind, dude even you're confident, or you're not and honestly. I don't think ksi is confident

Just take a look at Joe. Well. They're putting him in an absolute body bag. When ksi tries to make him laugh during the faceoff

But that just goes to show I'd rather watch fake wrestling than real fighting between two youtubers
