My name is Maria Isabel, here is a new tutorial
I am sewing a zipper, it is for the upper part of the bag, I use two strips of fabric,
one for each side.
I place the edge of the zipper just on the edge of the strip,
with left needle position, I am going to sew it up here.
Once I have sewn it to one strip, I do the same thing on the other side
The right side is facing down, I sew it on the other side the same way
I am going to do so on the machine.
I place the edge of the zipper just on the edge of the presser foot that is going to be my guide
The presser foot is the normal one, because the needle position is on the left,
I do not need the special zipper foot for zippers.
Let´s start, backstitch a little bit... and the edge is my guide,
I mean, the edge of the presser foot.
You can do it without pins, just placing the edges of the fabric and the edge of the zipper together.
Now, for this part, I do the reverse stitch and I cut out
the thread.
I open the zipper and then, I can go on and finish the sewing.
It has moved, I will start again.
Well, this part is already sewn.
As you can see, it is very near the edge, I am going to sew the other side, taking care
that the two strips match together and the backside of the strip and the zipper are in the outside.
I do the same on the other side.
Well, I will go on.
I have already sewn the two strip, this would be the right side, I have ironed it and I turn it over to the backside
and I have cut two other strips that will be the lining
On the backside, you place the right side of the strips facing down
and place them on the edge of the zipper, just on the edge of the zipper
You push this part downward and I will put a pin so you can see it
you have to sew it on the same place, placing the presser foot on the edge,
and sew it all along.
Once we open it, it will be like so.
This would be the right side and that would be the backside, both look pretty
even when you open your bag.
Once you have sewn this strip, you do the same with the other strip on the other side.
I have already finished it, this is the right side and that is the backside,
I have ironed it and it looks like that.
I have joined the two sides by hand, but it is impossible that they fit together perfectly [because of the zipper]
I am going to place one strip of fabric on each side to finish it, I place the right sides together
I am going to sew it here I set it straight before
I am going to open the zipper to sew it better, I cut it and it looks like this
Now, on the other side, I place another strip that will be the lining
and you sew it on the same line.
So you have the strip for the outside and another one for the lining.
Well, on the other side, you have to do the same thing.
