You know I've got a lot of time working out
but it wasn't until a few months ago when I made the decision of making big changes on my diet.
From all those changes, the most important one was to include only food that is good for me…
that make me feel good.
If you follow me everywhere you know I eat avocado almost every day.
Avocado! When you open an avocado and it's just perfect…
Life just gets better…
And you know you'll have a great day!
Of all food in my diet, avocados are my favorite.
It's a fruit, but it has zero grams of sugar.
It's got good fats and zero cholesterol.
And overall, not only they are always in season and always fresh
they're always delicious
and it doesn't matter what the occasion is… That is what we're going to show you here!
Here in America, September is the Hispanic Heritage Month.
I mean, it's the month when people like me who moved to this country to follow their dreams
feels entitled to remind everybody as loud as we can that if you include some Latino touch to any food…
It just gets better!
Avocados from Mexico approached me and asked me
if I was interested in creating a recipe in which I could mix the flavors of America and Venezuela.
And I said: "You've got no idea, my friend!
The only thing I do every given day is to eat your avocados
because they taste just like the ones I used to eat in Venezuela.
I won't make you just one recipe…
I'll make you 3 of them!"
From all recipes in the world, there are none that works better
to blend the best of two cultures like avocado toasts does.
Not only they're the essential dish of every brunch in the United States
they also are the perfect base to prepare delicious dishes just by putting on…
tropical flavors from my land!
As a result we've got avocado toasts…
but Venezuelan style…
For breakfast…
VENEZUELAN BREAKFAST STYLE AVOCADO TOAST WITH PERICO
You'll need:
one fresh avocado from Mexico
slices of 100% whole wheat Bimbo bread
Tabasco sauce
onion
tomato
green onion
two eggs
shredded cheese
salt and pepper
and olive oil.
First you've got to prepare the eggs just like they're made in my country…
Perico style!
Stir fry in olive oil the diced tomatoes, onion and green onion.
Add two eggs and pepper to taste and blend in
Meanwhile, toast two slices of 100% Whole Wheat Bimbo bread.
And while you wait they're ready, remember avocados not only make a great nutrient boosting breakfast item
but when combined with eggs they also make a great post-workout snack.
Serve the two slices of toast on the plate.
Spread both avocados from Mexico already diced and smashed.
And add the perico style eggs on each toast.
Since in Los Angeles finding Venezuelan cheese is almost impossible
my mom told me that if you mix cotija cheese and panela cheese you could make them taste
like the white cheese we used to eat when we used to breakfast back at home.
Pour some tabasco sauce to taste and there you go!
What you've got is the perfect blend of avocado fiber that gives 11% of the Daily Value per 50 g serving
while eggs provide high-quality protein that encourages muscle tissue repair & growth.
For snacking… Maiah's gusacaca
You'll need…
Two peeled fresh avocados from Mexico.
Two slices of 100% Whole Wheat Bimbo bread.
A medium onion roughly cut.
Half a bunch of cilantro
Half a bunch of parsley
Sliced and seedless green pepper
Two chili peppers
1/3 of olive oil.
2 garlic cloves
1/3 of cup of vinegar
A teaspoon of salt and pepper.
Blend everything in a blender until it gets a mixture is smooth.
Leave for one hour at room temperature.
Make the most of your time by toasting slices of 100% Whole Wheat Bimbo bread.
When they're toast cut them in triangles and serve with the guasacaca in a reunion or while you watch TV in the afternoon.
The flavor will transport you to the days when you used to clean the plate with empanadas, but with a beneficial twist for your health…
One serving of fresh avocado (one-third of a medium avocado) contains no cholesterol, no sodium and 1 g of saturated fat.
It's a good idea to use avocados as a substitute of many other popular foods used as a dip.
Replacing high calorie snacks with nutrient-rich foods, like avocados, is a nutritious way to help people eat healthier.
EXTRA RECIPE
AVOCADO AND COCONUT ICE POP
You'll need a fresh avocado from Mexico
A cup of coconut milk
Two tablespoons of lemon juice
¼ cup of shredded coconut
Two tablespoon of honey
Place avocado, coconut milk, honey and lemon into the blender. Blend on high until smooth.
Pour the mix into 5oz molds and put the ice pops in the freezer from 3 to 4 hours.
Remember, eating a variety of fruits and vegetables may help one control their weight, cholesterol and blood pressure.
Avocado is a nutrient-rich food
that unlike most varieties of fruit, do not contain sugar;
moreover, they have the least amount of sugar per serving than any other fresh fruit.
It's obviously insane to not take advantage of it
to make this delicious dessert to finish every day of Hispanic Heritage Month with a big smile.
