E-Retreat 2017 - Duration: 3:25.I made it home, I'm so tired and wet, and my voice is gone from chanting but I had
such a great time at E-Retreat.
E-Retreat. E-Retreat. E-Retreat. will compete am pl átano on gam your Island
(Engineers chanting).
Welcome to Camp Latona on Gambier Island where we hold E-Retreat. It's super beautiful.
Ahhh, check it out.
Leah: Hey what's your favorite part of E-Retreat. Ummmm sleep, no homework.
E-Retreat is basically a weekend for first-year engineers to get away from the city, get
away from campus for a weekend and try out new things, make new friends and kind
of get familiar with a lot of the EUS representatives.
I just woke up and the night was really cold but there's really fun to sleep in the cabin.
I tried kayaking for the very first time and it was really fun. I had a little
buddy and I totally made a new friend and I made some fun aquatic friends. I
saw seal, I saw jellyfish and I mean it's beautiful here so I saw lots of really
beautiful scenery. Just finished climbing and I'm really proud of myself. I climbed
all the way up to the top. It was a super cool experience to, you know, climb
up and kind of rely on my own strength that I didn't really know I had.
We're just getting on the boat leave Camp Latona, I've got my big backpack on
and I'm so sad to leave but it's about to start raining so I'm really glad to
get on this boat.
E-Retreat was not only super fun, and full of exciting new experiences, but it also really made me feel like I
was part of the faculty and part of EUS. I met so many amazing people and I
feel so excited and prepared to start my journey at UBC in this amazing faculty.
I hope that you enjoyed E-Retreat as much as I did and I'll see you next time.

Maestro Rafael Bittencourt no Air Drum - (EN/PT SUBBED) [Making of the New Album Pt. 17] - Duration: 16:15.Rafa, what can we expect of the new Angra's album?
What can we expect?
I think that this album represents the consolidation of a line-up, right?
The arrival of Bruno and Fabio that were on the last album, Secret Garden.
But now, we reaffirm this new line-up.
And now with Marcelo Barbosa. He's a new element, as well.
In this album we tried to bring back all of our essence, the past of the band,
All the elements we've showing through this 26 years of career.
However...
Renovating. Bringing new elements, surprises, new ways to do it.
And after four years with Bruno and Fabio, we can...
It's no so new. The harmony is bigger.
It's more comfortable to be together playing. So, everything works more natural.
So, I think that this album shows ...
It will surprise concerning our personal harmony.
How we, as musicans, can take the better of each one's talents.
Do you need some hammers?
At this point you hold it.
Continue. When I do that, you hold it.
In the end. There's a guitar theme on that part...
This point is straighter.
The peak of the song is there. That chorus.
Have to practice that.
This is it.
When Fabio does the long note, he will make the measure longer.
I'll ask Fabio to hold that.
When he holds that, you just...
On the cymbals.
Then, it will have to time do a crescendo with the floor toms.
I'll just try this one. Because that thing I can do with the timpani.
Oh, thanks, man.
Look at that... My bro.
He brought me some popcorn.
Thanks!
I woud like to say that we are going to Brazilian Day, bur Rafael,
mysteriuously... I don't what happened to him this time...
he forgot something. It never happens.
Our Uber is about to come, but, as you can see, nobody is here.
- There's something wrong, partner. - Yeah, partner... I'm learning how to do it.
What a style.
Yes, but soon enough, everything will be fine.
Hello. Brazilian Day rocks!
Brazilian Day. Let's go there.
Beautiful.
The first I'm here since the other...
Me too. I don't know Stockholm downtown.
You see? We're here for the second time recording the album.
And that's the first time we visit the downtown.
Look how we are hardworking.
I am as a worker here, man.
I am as a musician recording the CD.
Got it or you need a repetition?
I am repeating my sentences.
Wordplay... Playword.
- Or some wordplay with the city's name. - Yes.
And I am perplexed with that.
I just understood the joke right now.
I don't know who's the worst. The ones who makes the joke or...
The one who doesn't understand.
We are getting to Brazilian Day.
Let's cross at the correct place, so we won't die.
Let's not play the Brazilian guys.
Look how many Brazilian people.
The rain is not helping us.
Today is the record...
Sertanejo music is been playing.
Look that.
Pastel has finished? Ok, I don't want it anymore.
What are we eating, my partner?
A barbecue.
Are you eating almonds in Sweden?
I don't work with it.
Are you eating fish?
I don't work with it.
Eat barbecue.
With sausage.
Just a little.
It's not sausage.
Farofa on the bread, man.
I have never seen that.
It's new.
A person serves the bread...
Serves the bread with sausage and put farofa on it.
Look here... Merchan of Guaraná Antartica.
Please, don't make it with daddy's barbie.
To make it better. We are in Sweden at Brazilian Day.
On satge now, one of the best bass player from Brazil, Michel Pipoquinha.
We will watch him now.
As I know, he will play Forró.
But it's a heavy Forró because he is great.
Eh.. we were at Brazilian Day.
As you could see, we went, we saw Pipoquinha playing. It was good for two songs.
But it started to rain.
Everyone left the place.
We, more than fast, called our Uber and we're going to studio again.
It's also good, but it'd be nice to see the concert a little more. It was good.
Very good.
I was surprised by the quality... Can I give a testimony here?
I always feel a different emotion when I see Brazilian music overseas.
Since the first time I lived abroad, when I lived in U.S.
I didn't even like Brazilian music.
I just liked Rock.
And I had classes with a guy that wanted to teach me
Evan Lins, Tom Jobim... This kind of thing.
I thought it was cheesy.
But started to notice the force of Brazlian culture.
Because I missed Brazil.
So, I had some tapes with Brazilian songs and I started to listen it.
And be here today, watching the guys, I think his names was Cristiano Carneiro,
the man, the artist.
He played the accordion and used to sing very well.
I felt the emotion you being out Brazil and see your culture
See the Brazilian culture out of the box.
Out of the politic scandalous, and Brazil's problems.
Sometimes they make us forget our culture and depreciate it.
But, what we have is very rich.
And what we saw today is something really special.
It's a very different music of all the world.
I agree with that.
I totally agree.
Yes, I think that too.
The reports of Angra Channels are now documentaries.
I working to be a juggler.
Actually, I'd like to be barista.
But Rafa said I was a "Malabarista". (juggler in Portuguese)
You are a "Mala". (Pain in the ass person in Portuguese).
You want to be a barista.
Yes, for sure. That's it.
As you want to be a barista and you're also a "mala"...
you can be a "malabarista".
- You were the first one. - Yes.
Then, I working as a juggler.
Yes, I got it.
That's the keyboards now. The "Magic and the Lover".
The idea is to be a Baião in the begining.
The song is working well, man.
Yes, it is. Let's see what is happening to it.
Oh, man...
You're a great boy!
As Fabio says: "Usss".
What if we do...
the first verse?
Let's do it on the first verse, then.
It's a melody. It's not only a solo.
I think it's the battery.
The battery.
Look.
You do the C.
Now it starts again. From F...
Then you do the chorus.
Ah.. you want this note.
No.. you can do it this way then it goes to D.
- I think this one here, uh? - Yes.
Yes... two things. There will a point and a contrast.
Ok... let me do it from the begining.
Finally I do.
It's gonna be easy for you.
I'll just play the base.
Motherfucker.

From Italy To Endless Love- Puntata 4 , The Architecture Of Understanding (+ENG SUB) - Duration: 15:23.A web serie about the Italian fans of NW
Episode 4
Not just emotions, but also food for thoughts in NW lyrics
Take 75!
So, about culture
we know that Tuomas had fun with
themes and topics of the albums
It's not easy to discuss them in 2 minutes
or choose any in particular
I must say that
about the last album
I didn't know anything about Carl Sagan
so I read something about him
but if I have to choose
the thing I liked the most
is the inspiration from
a Tove Jansson's book
''Moominland Midwinter''
''Taikatalvi'' in finnish
that was a anecdote I really liked
Since we first listened to EFMB
I got into the evolution theory
by Darwin
it didn't interest me before the album came out
but I wanted to know more
and it was really illuminating
I also got to know about Carl Sagan
through the song
I didn't know who he was, now I
learned something about him and it was interesting
When I began listening to the band
I was carried away by the music
I liked the lyrics but I couldn't understand everything
because my english level is not high
When Dark Passion Play was released
my son explained me
The Poet and The Pendulum
so I decided that I had to understand more
If you are a member of the fanclub
has some advantages for this
in fact we have a lyrics book
with lyrics, translations and explaination of the songs
some songs deal with war, religion, pain
like Planet Hell or Gethsemane
some are inspired by mythological figures
like sirens and elves
some are set in fantasy worlds
Fantasmic is inspired by Disney stories
and Crownless by The Lord of The Ring
One of the topic that interested me the most
contained in a NW song
was the massacre of Columbine High School
as told in The Kinslayer
it's one of my favourite songs
it's a very strong track
from the themes of that song
I began looking for information about
this tragedy
the massacre of this High School
by students of that same school
what really made me shiver
(about this track)
is how Tuomas used some dialogues
between the attackers and the victims
Nightwish for culture!
rather than EFMB
what interested me
has been ''discussed'' by Tuomas in the past albums
mainly the escapism concept
I've read several things about it
because I have always been fascinated by that topic
even though I never studied it at the university
Probably his genius side
comes from this ''psycho-social''
and let me say this unpopular statement
for those who actually studied this
in our society so hectic
maybe being able to escape
traveling with one's mind
with fantasy
may be very good to our mind and health
What I learn through NW
not really with EFMB
because it deals with topics I already knew by myself
being interested in palaentology
history and science
and Darwin
maybe the historical figure I admire the most
I focused more on Imaginaerum
Nightwish for culture...
honestly I never considered it a theme to discuss
but I find it really interesting that
they are ''academic''
of course concerning this, EFMB is to be mentioned
because it deals with themes that no one ever had on a disc
I can't recall any band who have a song
about how mountains get pink
when the sun hits them and so on
I mean these things...
Considering that the band is from Finland
I read up about
finnish culture and language
well I tried to study finnish but
but I am a disaster
but we can say....
KATSO MERTA!!!
Katso Merta is awesome!
[pun: it Italian sounds like ''dick shit''
when I discovered it was crying laughing
as well as KATSO SUKKIA
and KATSO MATTO
[sounds like ''dick suck'' and ''dick fool'']
Finnish false friends are so funny
the funniest for finnish foreign students
what interested us the most
is finnish culture
the food, the language
food sucks if I cook it though
yeah not really tasty
reindeer stew??
Me, I am personally interested
in culture of course but
mainly finnish language
this is my notebook
I would like to learn the basis for daily use
so I can use it if we have a journey there
at least one of us (me) can speak
in finnish
short phrases!
I will speak in english
it's easier
they speak english everywhere in Finland
I don't think we will have problems
yes, finnish is super difficult
Some songs digs deeper
describing the complexity of human love
for this we need to quote
Imaginaerum
the pillar of the movie
in this album every song remids us of
a moment in character's life
another track that developed a passion for me
and made know more of another topic
was Creek Mary's Blood
my favourite song ever by NW
I got interested in American Natives history
the title
is the same of Dee Brown's book
that deals with natives genocide
perpetuated by the white man
often quoted in the song
I researched also about
the existant tribes
as the Lakotas, the tribe of John Two Hawks
who helped writing the song
About NW homeland
Finland is clearly fascinating
I have never visited it
but I once went to Scandinavia,
I went to Norway
what really impressed me
probably it happens with finns too
is the respect towards nature
we can't really speak about
studying ''imagination'' topics
and memory
but that album made me ponder
and think, evaluating
these concepts
so I re-discovered
of this abstract things
let's say that
about the possibile involvement of the band
into people's rising interest in Finland and finnish
I would say they did a lot
for this matter
and I am the living proof!
because thanks to NW
I got to know this country
and I didn't even know where it was
I never had any interest in Finland before
I also tried with Dutch when Floor got into the band
but languages are not my cup of tea.
so I *fffffiiuuuuuu*
discouraged and gave up
But I am fascinated by
culture and mainly landscapes of
Norway, Finland, Sweden
if I could go there
living there
landscapes there are magical
and I think that
people are a little bit more introvert
and it's charming
I can't say anything else
but that these nordic countries
are magic
nothing much to add
Finland folkore is intriguing too
bathing in ice cold water
and many others
Personally I fell in love
with '' My Walden''
so I decided to read the book
that inspired Tuomas
''Walden- bu Henry David Thoreau
another song that fascinated me
in EFMB
is Edema Ruh
inspired by a book trilogy
that deals with tribes
travelers
acrobats
I think that this song
may be a little bit autobiographic
reflecting bands life on tour
around the world
last but not least
of course, The Poet and The Pendulum
it really put me in contact
with Poe's literature
as we know the song is inspired by
'The Pit and the Pendulum''
one of the most famous short stories by Edgar Allan Poe
It also put me in contact with english literature
I don't see this respect
in our own society
and we could see it in some of the last events
crime news
for me it is fundamental
taking care of nature
because when nature revolt, man is useless
and can only endure
these were the elements that hit me the most
if I had more time
If we could talk for hours
about Nightwish topics
About Finland I have been there
for three times and I have been to Kitee thrice
Kitee was a fundamental destination the first time I went there
the final destination
It was the reason of my journey to Finland
the other two times I went there knowing Plamen
hi Plamen!!
and already knowing finnish culture
of course with the journeys there
I got to know language and culture
I don't speak finnish though
I know some words, especially bad words!
I learned them at the Festival!
So yes, I deepened my knowledge about Finland
on different sides
Mainly
thanks to NW I learned finnish
and thanks to Mattia [admin of the fanclub]
who studied swedish in Milan
I decided to study scandinavian languages too
I went to Erasmus in Finland
and most important
the interest in Finland
starting from a band
it helps you discover other bands
or also music and literature
of that country
it's not just ''Ok Finland
has 5 millions habitants, they speak finnish and swedish''
it became a general interest in that land
understanding were they take inspiration from
musically and culturally
I think that this is actually really cool
so if you follow them, good for you!!
hiiii!

How Jeff Bezos Became the King of E-Commerce - Duration: 5:24.In 1994, a young, Wall Street hotshot named Jeff Bezos was at a crossroads in his career:
Continue amassing a small fortune...
...or abandon it all to sell books?
That decision would single-handedly change the history of e-commerce,
publishing, film, TV, journalism,
and quite possibly interstellar travel.
That decision also represents a recurring theme in his life:
Never settle.
Ever.
This is how Jeff Bezos took a simple idea into a garage
and built one of the largest marketplaces on the planet.
Jeff Bezos was born on January 12, 1964.
As a child, he turned his parents' garage
into a laboratory for his inventions.
In his 1982 valedictorian speech, he discussed colonizing outer space
and turning Earth into a giant nature preserve.
Graduating from Princeton with a computer science degree,
instead of going straight into tech,
he had other ideas...
You don't become a billionaire unless you have this insatiable desire
to accrue wealth and power.
But I think he just looks at it in a way that's
really different to almost anyone else I follow.
That's Tom Metcalf...
I'm a billionaires reporter for Bloomberg News.
He's always driven by success, and Wall Street was the pinnacle for most graduates.
He was a very mathematical graduate.
It really fit in his almost quant-like outlook.
He quickly made a name for himself.
At 26, the youngest-ever Vice President of Bankers Trust Company.
At 28, the youngest-ever Senior Vice President of DE Shaw and Co.
It was there that he discovered a giant, untapped resource:
the internet.
He was seeing the internet grow by 2300% a year.
In all his time at a Wall Street firm,
he'd never seen such a growth opportunity.
He went through a whole list of industries,
and, if you think about books,
easy to package. Hard to damage.
And of course the internet offers an infinite library.
DE Shaw did not share his optimism.
For the opportunity of a lifetime,
Bezos would have to leave Wall Street.
Whatever it is that you want to do,
there's gonna be risk in your life.
And risk is a necessary component of progress.
And he quite simply packed his stuff up,
drove across the country.
And the legend goes that, while in the car,
he was writing the business plans.
Setting up shop in his garage, in 1994,
he incorporated his book company under the name….
"Cadabra".
It wasn't great when a lawyer misheard it as "cadaver".
He ultimately landed on "Amazon" for a couple reasons.
Firstly, the name beginning with 'A'
would likely be on top of any alphabetized web search.
And he kind of liked the fact that it tied into the world's largest river,
and he was setting up plans to make Amazon the world's largest company.
Launching in July 1995,
a bell was installed to ring
every time a book was sold.
In its first month, Amazon sold to people
in all 50 states and 45 different countries.
The bell was gone in weeks.
All their expectations were smashed.
They thought they'd maybe sell dozens of books the first week.
It was in fact hundreds.
Then thousands.
And, of course today, millions.
By September 1995,
Amazon processed $20,000 in monthly sales.
With its 1997 IPO,
Amazon was valued at $400 million.
By 1999, Jeff Bezos was worth $10 billion
and was Time's Man of the Year.
But soon after, the dot com crash had people skeptical:
was Amazon a sustainable business,
or would the bubble burst?
Anyone who's met Bezos knows he's extraordinarily charismatic and very convincing.
In terms of the long-term vision,
he had it mapped out for decades.
Whatever happened in the short term,
he wasn't going to change that plan.
And I think he conveyed that pretty well
to his stockholders.
With the crash eliminating many competitors,
Amazon strengthened its grip on the market
and expanded beyond books.
The Kindle.
Alexa.
Amazon Studios.
And of course….
Amazon Prime.
What it does is it really locks people into the Amazon ecosystem.
They're much more inclined to be buying a lot more.
Word of mouth spreads.
And that has been the biggest driver of Amazon's incredible revenue growth.
Yet, historically, Amazon has seen modest annual profits.
There's an enormous amount of cash flowing through the company.
And what Bezos does - he's not returning that to shareholders.
He's reinvesting that in the company.
For sure in its core businesses,
but also going off for these almost moonshot projects.
My vision for Blue Origin is
millions of people living and working in space.
This is such a game-changer.
Amazon to buy Whole Foods.
Jeff Bezos is now the richest person in the world.
$250 million for the storied Washington Post.
His acquisition of the Washington Post not only raised eyebrows,
but put him at odds with another well-known billionaire.
He bought the Washington Post to have political influence.
If I become President,
oh do they have problems.
They're going to have such problems.
Bezos and Trump are probably as different as two entrepreneurs can get.
Trump is pretty reactionary, kind of emotional,
whereas Bezos normally doesn't really respond.
Though once he did suggest
he'd be willing to send Donald Trump into space.
And, you know, I have a rocket company so...
the capability is there.
Few businessmen choose to make an enemy of a president.
But having built an empire out of a garage,
Jeff Bezos has proven capable
of handling any adversary.
Especially complacency.

Shock - causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, pathology - Duration: 10:14.So when we talk about ischemia, we're usually talking about this lack of blood flow to a
specific area of tissue, so maybe like with a heart attack, a coronary artery in the heart
gets blocked that supplies the left ventricle with blood...so that localized area of heart
tissue doesn't get enough blood and oxygen and that damage is localized to that left
ventricle.
Shock is like ischemia...but on a global scale, in other words it's a whole body circulatory
failure, where blood flow to tissues is dangerously low, leading to cellular injury, possibly
damaging multiple organs and even leading to multiple organ failure if not treated immediately.
Ok, so with shock, the body's tissues aren't getting enough oxygen via the blood, right?
Normally, blood perfuses through tissue and delivers oxygen because there's enough pressure
in the circulatory system to push it through; so blood pressure's a major determinant
for the amount of blood perfusing through tissues.
Now blood pressure's determined by two components, the resistance to blood flow in the blood
vessels, things like vessel length, blood viscosity, and vessel diameter, and the cardiac
output which is the volume of blood pumped by the heart through the body per minute.
And you can break that into heart rate, the number of beats per minute, times stroke volume,
the amount pumped out each beat.
Going further, the stroke volume is found by taking the total volume of blood left over
after contraction, the end-systolic volume, and subtracting it from the total volume in
the heart after filling, the end-diastolic volume.
Alright, now keeping those in mind, shock can be caused by whole bunch of different
things, but we can categorize the different types of shock into the three main categories,
along with some subcategories here and there.
The first category is called hypovolemic shock.
Hypo- means "low", -vol- refers to "volume", and -emia refers to the blood, so hypovolemic
shock is shock induced by a low fluid volume of blood, and this could be either non-hemorrhagic
or haemorrhagic.
Non-hemorrhagic means that the loss of fluid volume isn't from bleeding, so this could
be like if you were stranded in a desert and suffered severe dehydration, eventually your
loss of fluid in sweat would reduce blood volume to where it wouldn't be enough to
supply your body's organs and you'd develop hypovolemic shock.
Hemorrhagic hypovolemic shock on the other hand is loss of blood volume through ruptured
blood vessels, in other words, from bleeding.
A loss of about 20% of your total blood volume, roughly one liter, can be enough to induce
hypovolemic shock, and when that liter of blood leaves the circulation, the total volume
filling into the heart goes down, meaning the end-diastolic volume goes down, this means
stroke volume goes down as well, which causes cardiac output to go down, and finally we
see blood pressure goes down.
When cardiac output goes down, catecholamines like epinephrine and norepinephrine, ADH,
and angiotensin II are released, all of which cause vasoconstriction of blood vessels which
increases of vascular resistance, and increased heart rate, which, increases cardiac output,
and these combined effects increase blood pressure.
A super important indicator of tissues not getting enough oxygen due to hypovolemia,
is a decreased mixed venous oxygen saturation, or MVO2.
MVO2 is the amount of oxygen bound to to hemoglobin in blood coming to the right side of the heart,
from the tissues.
So it's like the amount of oxygen left over, or not extracted and used by the tissues.
So if blood volume's down, that means oxygen's down, and there's going to be less left
over, right?
So MVO2 will be down with hypovolemic shock.
Since blood flow provides heat to the tissues as well, when it's down, the skin starts
to feel cool and clammy; and so hypovolemic shock is considered a cold shock.
A second main category of shock is cardiogenic shock, cardio - genic means produced by the
heart, right?
So this is when something happens to the heart such that now it can't pump enough blood
to the body's tissues.
The most common cause is acute myocardial infarction, or heart attack.
Hold on a second, though...didn't I say at the beginning that was more along the lines
of localized ischemia?
Well, the heart attack itself reflects ischemia, right?
But the effects of the initial cardiac damage eventually leads to a state of shock.
When the heart's muscle cells die, it can't contract as hard, which means the amount of
blood pumped out, or stroke volume, goes down, and therefore cardiac output goes down as
well.
In the same way as with hypovolemic shock, the body releases vasoconstrictors to increase
vascular resistance help maintain blood pressure.
Also, as with hypovolemic shock, MVO2 will be down since there's less oxygen being
pumped out, and so less will be left over.
Sometimes there might be an obstruction that doesn't allow the heart to fill properly
with blood.
For example, we might have the pericardial sac fill up with fluid from an infection or
blood from a traumatic accident like getting stabbed in the chest.
If this sac fills up, it physically constricts the heart from expanding and contracting normally
and also reduces the stroke volume.
This is sometimes "sub" classified as obstructive shock, but you can see that the
cause is still due to the heart's inability to do its job, right?
Similarly to hypovolemic shock, a reduction in cardiac output leads to lowered blood flow,
so the skin gets cool and clammy and so cardiogenic shock is also considered a kind of cold shock.
Alright, the third main category of shock is called distributive shock, where there's
typically "leakiness" of blood vessels and an excessive amount of arteriole vasodilation,
or widening of the peripheral blood vessels, which remember is one of the components of
vascular resistance.
If arterioles dilate, vascular resistance to blood flow goes down and blood pressure
goes down, leading to less perfusion and distribution of blood to organs and tissues.
Now the most common type of distributive shock is septic shock, from pathogens in the blood.
What happens with septic shock is endotoxins, these large clunky lipopolysaccharide molecules,
sometimes just called LPSs, found in the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria causes
a crazy cascade of events.
that ultimately leads to lowered perfusion.
First these guys directly damage endothelial cells and cause them to release vasodilators
like nitric oxide.
They also activate the complement pathway in the blood, which stimulates mast cell release
of histamine, another vasodilator.
The LPS molecules also activate immune cells like macrophages and neutrophils, which help
create a bunch of pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor and interleukin
1.
These help the immune system destroy the invaders...but also stimulates the endothelial cells to release
more inflammatory molecules like platelet activating factor and reactive oxygen species.
All of these inflammatory chemicals damage the endothelial cells and increases their
vascular permeability, making the blood vessels "leaky".
Also, endothelial cells express a procoagulant called tissue factor, procoagulants are molecules
that increase blood coagulation, or blood clotting; this, in combination with an overall
decrease in anti-coagulants, which usually decrease clotting and seem to often be depleted
or used up during sepsis, leads to this net increase in coagulation and clotting in the
microvasculature, and of course clotting and blockages in the blood vessels further decreases
perfusion, right?
Okay so this widespread vasodilation means very little vascular resistance, and blood
can't get the chance to unload as much oxygen as it cruises through the vasculature, and
it gets back to the right side of the heart with leftover oxygen, so in this case, as
opposed to cardiogenic and hypovolemic shock, MVO2 can be normal or even increased.
In contrast to hypovolemic and cardiogenic shock—now there's an increase in flow
in the peripheral blood vessels, and the skin becomes warm and flushed, so distributive
shock is a kind of warm shock.
The overall combined effects of widespread vasodilation, increased vascular permeability,
and microvascular blood clotting, all contribute to decreased perfusion of blood to vital organs.
Now two kind of sub-types of distributive shock are anaphylactic shock, which is an
allergic reaction causing dangerously low blood pressure, and neurogenic shock, where
the nervous system gets damaged and can't control the body's blood pressure.
The treatment of shock depends on the cause.
In general, the goal is to stabilize blood pressure so that vital organs like the heart
and the brain are perfused with blood.
In order to stabilize blood pressure, fluid replacement and medications that increase
heart contractility, cause vasoconstriction, and retain fluid can be administered.
Oftentimes a person might need supplemental oxygen or have their airway protected, for
example with intubation.
Alright, as a quick recap.
Shock is ultimately a failure in tissue perfusion, and it affects the whole body, putting tissues
and organs at risk for injury and ultimately organ failure.
Hypovolemic shock happens when dehydration or hemorrhage reduce the volume of blood in
the blood vessels.
Cardiogenic shock happens when a direct injury like a heart attack or an obstruction like
a pericardial effusion prevents the heart from pumping blood efficiently.
Distributive shock happens when something like an allergic reaction or damage to the
nervous system - called neurogenic shock causes the blood vessels to vasodilate and become
leaky which reduces the resistance and lowers the blood pressure.

Here's What You Don't Know About Flo From Progressive - Duration: 3:47.Over the past decade, perky Progressive Insurance saleswoman Flo has become a television mainstay,
appearing in dozens of commercials.
But while everyone knows Flo, chances are you've never even heard of Stephanie Courtney,
the woman who plays the character.
Let's change that with a look at some things you didn't know about the woman behind Flo.
Mommy dearest
In a 2016 interview with Lohud, Courtney gave the inside scoop on how she landed the once-in-a-lifetime
role of Flo.
Turns out she had a secret weapon when she went to the audition: her mom, Jane Courtney.
"What they were looking for was basically a friendly neighborhood waitress; she is super
friendly and nice, almost to the point of madness, and I was like, 'I can do that.'
I went straight to my mom and I credit her with Flo's personality.
I said, 'Yes, I can become Jane Courtney!'"
Improv
In her original audition, Courtney had just one line, but during her second audition,
the director invited her to play with the role.
As a member of the famous Groundlings improv comedy group, that was all the opening Courtney
needed.
Progressive Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Carney told Advertising Age that "Flo was an accident."
The character was just supposed to be a friendly cashier in the superstore, but Courtney brought
the character to life when she ad-libbed the line, "wow, I say it louder."
"Wow."
"Wow!
I know!
I say it louder.
Have a great day!"
Company execs realized the concept gave them the chance to "surround Flo with characters
to play off and offered other opportunities to expand Flo's story."
Since that fateful audition, Courtney has continued to be an integral voice in how the
character of Progressive Flo has… progressed.
And all thanks to one little "wow."
It just shows what can happen if you say the right word.
"Slovakia.
Triceratops.
Tapioca.
Racquetball.
Stuccatto!"
"Me llamo Jaime!"
"Pumpernickel!
Pudding!"
She helps write the commercials
In 2009, Courtney told Cleveland.com about the backstory she envisioned for Flo, saying,
"When I picture Flo in life she drives her little Mini Cooper around town and it's basically
like when Bob Hoskins drove into Toontown in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Basically all the buildings and the birds are singing in her mind."
Courtney explained to Lohud that over the years, she's worked with the writers to shape
the arc of her character.
"The writers are very open to what I think; there may be some improv here now and then,
that is encouraged, by the way.
All of us were working so hard to find out who this person was and what the boundaries
were.
With Flo, she was sort of originally this perfect little Number One employee, but the
power has gotten to her."
Uh oh, sounds like her little sidekick dude, Jamie, might want to sleep with one eye open.
"Jamie, don't forget to clean the fridge when you're done."
"She seems nice."
"She seems nice…
She's actually pretty nice."
She lived in France
When Courtney was just a child, her family spent a year in France.
Though she later forgot how to speak the language, the experience came in handy during her college
years when she spent a semester abroad with a host family in Avignon.
Still, she told The Nerdist's JV Club podcast that the culture shock of returning to France
was difficult.
"I ate, like, olympic amounts of bread and cheese, and then I outgrew all of my clothes
and I remember, I was so sad, like, I really looked like Gerard Depardieu.
I couldn't afford a haircut, like, no makeup, and I'd like mope around France because I
felt so bad about myself."
She's a playwright
Before landing the life-changing role of Flo, Courtney penned a play called Those Courtney
Girls.
Based on exaggerated versions of herself and her sister, Jennifer, and their lives as broke
actors, Those Courtney Girls ran at the 2000 Aspen Comedy Festival.
Though Courtney says it didn't make a "big splash," it did help her make more contacts
in the comedy business — networking that has clearly paid off.
Way to go, Flo.
Thanks for watching!

Trump Admin Hides Report Showing Their Tax Plan Is A Scam - Duration: 3:43.Last week, we get a full taste of the Republicans and Donald Trump's tax package, which includes
massive tax giveaways to corporations and the top 1%, while actually raising taxes on
the bottom level of income earners in the United States in order to pay for those massive
tax cuts.
But something that happened during the release of that tax package is something that should
have us all very very concerned, because nobody paid attention to it at the time.
In fact most media outlets completely missed it.
What happened was that all the way back in 2012, the Office of Tax Analysis within the
federal government, did a report on how trickle-down economics is snake oil.
How it is a scam and how it will never work, and more importantly how it's screws over
average American workers.
Here is what that specific report said.
It said, "That when you lower taxes on corporations, the tax burden within the corporation, which
is usually 82% of the taxes are paid by the corporation itself.
The other 18 are actually paid by the employees.
But when you lower their taxes, they pay 75% but the workers share increases to 25%.
So taxes on the workers go up.
Taxes on the corporation itself go down.
The extra money goes back into the pockets of shareholders and CEOs."
It does not work, and it creates an increased burden on the workers themselves.
And the Trump Administration fearing that people in this country would see that report,
because it was on the Office of Tax Analysis website decided to bury that report.
They deleted it.
They hid it from the American public so that we could not get a look at it, and understand
that their tax policy was a complete fraud.
All of the promises they been making publicly like, this was going to help American workers,
this was going to help small businesses, this was going to create job growth.
Every one of those talking points was thoroughly debunked in this government report.
So the Trump Administration decided to do what they do best, and pretend that it didn't
exist.
And the American public no longer had access to it through the government's website.
There is a link, in the video description for this video, to a Politico article that
has a pdf of the official report in it.
I encourage everyone to follow that link.
Download that report, and share it to as many supply-side economics fanatics as you can.
Because as we've stated time and time again, trickle-down economics does not work.
It has not worked ever.
It will not work ever.
In every available report on it shows that, yep it can't work.
All it does is increase the tax liability for workers and American families, while lower
taxes on the top 1% and corporations who put that money in their pockets rather than spending
it to create more American jobs.
The Trump Administration is praying that you don't get your hands on that information.
So I encourage everyone, download the report, and share it will every single
person that you know.

What happens with septic shock is endotoxins, these large clunky lipopolysaccharide molecules,

or used up during sepsis, leads to this net increase in coagulation and clotting in the
microvasculature, and of course clotting and blockages in the blood vessels further decreases
perfusion, right?
Okay so this widespread vasodilation means very little vascular resistance, and blood
can't get the chance to unload as much oxygen as it cruises through the vasculature, and
it gets back to the right side of the heart with leftover oxygen, so in this case, as

In contrast to hypovolemic and cardiogenic shock—now there's an increase in flow

And at last I've come to understand
That your love has left for good
I can't stop holding on to what we used to have
I tell myself, there is hope still for our love

Lets start
-------------------------------------- LCA Tejas to Receive India-made Brake Parachute
Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra, a wing of Indias Defence
Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has transferred technology to manufacture
brake parachutes for Indias home-made fighter jet, LCA Tejas to Ordnance Parachute Factory
(OPF), Kanpur.
The documents pertaining to the technology were handed over in a function held on 20
July 2017, according to DRDO information.
The documents have been duly vetted by the Center for Military Air-worthiness and Certification
(CEMILAC) which is the certification authority for military aviation in India.
The brake parachute for LCA Tejas is made of nylon and Kevlar material.
The textile material used in the system has been developed as per ADRDE specifications
and is available indigenously.
---------------------------- Thanks to Russia, AWACS deal stall and hit
the Indian Air Force
If airborne warning and control systems (AWACS) are considered "eyes in the sky", India is
battling debilitating cataract in this military arena.
Even as China and Pakistan induct more such force-multipliers, the IAF is faced with a
double whammy due to a deadlocked deal with Israel and Russia as well as painfully slow
progress in indigenous efforts.
IAF currently has only three AWACS, with Israeli Phalcon radar systems mounted on Russian IL-76
heavy-lift aircraft, which were inducted in 2009-2011 under a $1.1 billion deal inked
in 2004.
Currently China operating over 20 AWACS and Pakistan now has seven such platforms, with
the Chinese Karakoram Eagle ZDK-03 AWACS being the latest inductions.
----------------------------- Uzbekistan joins a league of nations to supply
Uranium to India
Landlocked but resource-rich Uzbekistan is seeking to deepen its strategic partnership
with India, as it is planning to export uranium to power a growing number of nuclear plants
in South Asias biggest country.
Uzbekistans neighbour Kazakhstan has been a supplier of uranium to India since the end
of the last decade.
By planning to export precious item like uranium to India now, Tashkent is signalling that
it desires to expand the list of its strategic partners, a local official told ET, speaking
on the condition of anonymity.
Uzbekistan, the seventh biggest uranium exporter in the world, will be a key player in Indias
plan to procure nuclear fuel to create a strategic uranium reserve.
New Delhi is working to have a stockpile of nuclear fuel that can sustain the country's
reactors for five years and ensure that they do not stop functioning in the absence of
fuel.

US weapons won't give New Delhi an edge over Beijing: Chinese media
American weapons will not give New Delhi a 'bargaining chip' in handling its China relations
because it is a US attempt to impose its Asia strategy on India, a state-run Chinese media
said in an editorial on Monday.
The US is trying to tie New Delhi to its chariot, but it cannot bring about India's
rise or act as a viable bargaining chip, the Global Times said.
ndia will have to rely on itself rather than a few weapons the US is trying to sell to
it for its own ambitions, the article said, adding the progress of US-India relations
is subtly connected to the development of China-US ties.
New Delhi's status in Asia should not be determined by Washington's China strategy,
it said.
While Beijing has not considered India a factor in handling its ties with Washington,
the Washington-New Delhi relationship has taken the need to contain China into account,
the opinion piece said.
But compared to New Delhi, Beijing is more determined and capable not to be manipulated
when handling its relations with other countries.
India would be more mature if it could view high-level exchanges with the US without
regard for any perceived need to contain China, it said.
------------------------------- IAF enhances night flying by combat jets to
boost strike power
Considering the evolving threat perception, the Indian Air Force has decided to raise
night flying by its combat jets from the current around 30 per cent in all its frontline bases
to have a major tactical advantage over its adversaries.
IAF officials said the decision to enhance night flying is part of a move to boost overall
strike capability and keep the fighter squadrons fully ready for operating in an entire 24
hour cycle.
"The move to increase night flying from 30 per cent was based on a variety of factors
including the evolving security scenario in our neighbourhood," a senior IAF told .
"The warfare scenario is changing fast.
We now are preparing ourselves to operate in an electronic warfare environment and that
is why we are making the changes," said the official.
He said almost all IAF bases along the western and northern borders have started increasing
the ratio of night flying.

UAE wants to buy over a squadron of Su-35 advanced fighter jets from Russia
The United Arab Emirates wants to buy over a squadron of Sukhoi Su-35 advanced fighter
jets from Russia and the contract may be signed by the yearend, a source in the system of
military and technical cooperation told TASS on Tuesday.
"They want a lot, over a squadron but the exact number will be specified in the course
of negotiations that may be held in November during an air show in Dubai," the source said.
The relevant contract may be signed by the yearend, if the negotiations are successful,
the source said.
TASS does not yet have an official confirmation of this information.
A squadron is a tactical Air Force unit, which consists of formations and wings and also
comprises aircraft maintenance personnel.
A fighter aviation squadron in the Russian Air Force normally comprises 12 aircraft but
their exact number depends on the type of an aviation regiment.

IAF aggressively upgrading infra in eastern theatre
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is aggressively upgrading infrastructure on its eastern theatre
to boost strategic deployment of advanced assets close to the Chinese border.
"The infrastructure development is taking place at a very, very rapid pace in the eastern
front.
We are inducting a number of new platforms in term of weapons, radar systems, networking
systems," Air Marshal Anil Khosla, who heads the Shillong-based Eastern Air Command, told
IANS.
"We are getting Rafale aircraft, Chinook heavy-lift helicopters and Apache attack helicopters.
Recently, we have inaugurated a new C-130 J squadron complex in the Eastern Air Command,"
he said on the sidelines of the Air Fest at the Shillong Advanced Landing Ground here.
Noting that Eastern Air Command is growing from strength to strength, Khosla said, "We
are getting ready to absorb the new technology and in another few years, may be two-three
years or five years, it will be a very, very potent force (Eastern Air Command)."
"As I said, the delivery has already started.
The radars are already coming in.
We already have C-130 and we have operationalised a lot of helicopters units such as Mi-17 and
Mi-17 V5, ALH, and in future we will get Chinooks, Apache, Rafale.
So for all this, infrastructure is required," he said.
"A lot of infrastructure is coming in our airfields to house the new (radar and networking)
systems.
We are trying to improve the operating surfaces further so that all these fighters and heavy
transport aircraft can land and take off," the Air Marshal said.

8 Awful Hairstyles that Shouldn't Have Existed - Duration: 5:34.8 Awful Hairstyles That Shouldn't Have Existed
Many people use fashion to express themselves and get as creative as possible.
Hairstyles, clothing, shoes –both men and women like to change them and play with different
styles.
Today the possibilities are limitless and you can experiment with your hair as much
as you want.
Here are 10 crazy haircuts you should never ever try.
1.
Beyond creative
Some hairstyles are just too much.
It's not that they are ugly, they are just too complicated for everyday life and will
look very strange outside of the fashion runway.
Some of them remind of art galleries with elements of impressionism, cubism, asymmetry
and crazy coloring.
They are truly artistic, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but modern women can't afford
to spend so much time on a hairstyle – it should be cared for everyday non-stop.
It's best to leave such extravagant haircuts for fashion shows.
2.
Tomato head
Veggies and fruits are tasty and help us keep fit, that's a fact.
But should we use their image beyond that?
Here's a hairstyle that is as peculiar as one can imagine.
You may wonder – who would want to wear such a look?
The answer is – a person that's really into tomatoes.
Otherwise it's hard to explain why you'd want to rock hair like that.
One thing we can tell for sure – hair like this is not for every day.
It might work for clubs, but imagine rocking this look in a café where you just want to
grab a cup of cappuccino?
It's too attention-grabbing.
3.
Hands-on
Let's admit that Asians are into some really crazy things.
Whether it's square watermelons, giant robots or white strawberries, we can all agree that
they come up with some really bizarre inventions.
Hair is no exception!
Not only do they make mad scientific discoveries, they also like to create truly crazy looks.
Hands holding your head – why not?
But as cool as it may seem, it's best not to replicate this look at home.
It's just too much.
4.
The Slinky do
We all know that dreads can look cool and beautiful when done the right way.
Yet lately people have started experimenting with 'traditional' hairstyles, creating
new ones that look bolder and more peculiar.
This neo punk look seems to have been inspired by trippings of a hippie and alien tentacles.
It has crazy colors and isn't chic at all.
It is also awfully heavy and it will be a real pain to sleep with all this hair on your
head.
It's a big no-no for most of the girls.
5.
Shine bright like a diamond
We all love glitz and glamour as much as the next person, but there are some things that
should be avoided at all costs.
If you're one of those women who are able to rock a bold head, that's great.
It's a fashion choice that will make you immediately stand out from the rest of people.
Yet there's one thing you should never do with a bald head – don't put glitter on
it.
And mirrors.
And fake diamonds.
Unless you want to look like you've just escaped from the circus, it's a look that
should be avoided by all women, no exceptions.
6.
Single dread
Dreads look cool, we do not doubt that.
But just like so many things taken from the African culture, dreads have also been transformed
over time and sometimes people come up with truly appalling hairstyles based on dreads,
braids and other styles.
This mono-dread, for example, looks incredibly creepy.
It's definitely one of those 'natural' dreads that just happened to a person.
You should never ever let such a mess appear on your head.
7.
Easter basket head
Holidays are great – we all love the festive spirit when all people gather to celebrate
some significant event in the history of mankind.
But should they be used as inspiration for hairstyles?
We don't think so.
Here's a vivid example of what you should never ever do with your head.
No matter how much you love Easter, Christmas or Thanksgiving Day, this is not the reason
to create a turkey or an Easter basket on your head.
It may be a good idea for a night or two, but imagine rocking this look for a week or
even a month – it'll be a pure disaster.
8.
The ultimate attention-grabber
All people like attention in one form or another.
Some like it more, some less, but if you truly want to stand out, here's a hairstyle that
will do just that.
In fact, you'll probably get photographed a lot, and not in a very good way.
The hairstyle itself is not so bad – it's a bit punk, yet feminine, but it's the coloring
that's the problem.
Mixing pink and leopard may (somehow) work in fashion, but don't try mixing it all
on one head.
It's not very stylish and elegant to say the least.
But it will definitely grab the attention wherever you go.
