The largest and most powerful helicopter in world currently in service is the
mi-26 of Russian manufacture. It's a heavy transport helicopter
created in the 70s in the former union Soviet by the helicopter factory
MIL of Moscow, for civil applications and military.
Its production began in 1981 and continues until today.
It is the first helicopter with a eight-blade main rotor arranged
between each pair of them at an angle of 45 sexagesimal degrees.
The mi-26 is the helicopter manufactured in heavier series that has managed to fly and
that is still in production, its predecessor MI 12 was never made in series.
The mi-26 was designed to provide to aeroflot a heavy helicopter to
operations in undeveloped regions of the country, in order to reach places
remote and difficult to access and equally for military transport all along
from the country. Recall that Russia is the most
extensive world with 17 million square kilometers and something more.
This helicopter started his life operative in the 70s, as soon as
it was evidenced that the experimental design of the birrotor v12 could not
fulfill these missions. Needed however the long and expensive
development of a dynamic system completely new, rotor and system
appropriate transmission, it was precisely the inconvenience they wanted to avoid
with the design of the MIL b12, it meant given the need to meet
with the official requirement of being able to take off with a maximum load of double
of its weight in vacuum. This great engineering challenge
meant that until December 14 of 1977 the prototype of the helicopter that
initially designated b-26, not be ready for your first flight
stationary. The design and the form general helicopter is very similar
to the previous MI6 and with a fuselage similar dimensions.
the new mi-26 has a lower rotor diameter but 8 blades and one plant
almost double the power, with two large turbines installed on the
cockpit circumstances that you allow to transport a payload a
66 percent higher than that of the previous mi6.
In this part of the video we are going to take a small look at the inner part of
this helicopter. This one we are seeing belongs to the Republic of Belarus
or Belarusian, so you have an idea of the dimensions and internal size of
this aircraft. This capacity was demonstrated amply on February 3
1982, when as a snap to a series of records set by the new
apparatus, a prototype of tests of this same mi-26 raised a total mass, is
say helicopter plus payload of 56768 kilograms up to a height of
2000 meters. It is an aircraft that was not built
to make a war helicopter. Basically it was built to be able
bring supplies and personnel to regions extremely apart from both Russia
as of any country in the world. TO those places where because of its topography
or because of the distance there is not a Landing strip for a normal plane.
That's why initially these helicopters they were part of the aeronautical company
Russian aeroflot. It is an aircraft that given its large dimensions becomes
automatically to wherever it arrives in the center of attention. Then
let's review very briefly the technical sheet of this aircraft. The first
flight was made on December 14, 1977,
It was introduced to the service from year 1983 to date.
They have been manufactured to date Approximately 280 units. The cost of
each of these aircraft is around 12 millions of euros. The crew is
composed of six people: two pilots, a navigator, a flight engineer, a
cargo manager and a systems operator of radio and electronics. His capacity
nominal load is 20,000 kilos, is say 20 tons. Can transport
up to 80 soldiers with all their equipment each. When it is used
in medical evacuation can transport up to 60 stretchers. The total length are
40 meters with 25 centimeters. The diameter of the main rotor is 32 meters. The
height is 8 meters with 15 centimeters. The circular area is 789 meters
squares. the empty weight is 28200
kilograms, 28 tons 200 kilos. He loaded weight, 49500 kilos, that is
49 tons and a half. Maximum weight at takeoff 56000 kilos, that is 56
tons. The power plant is composed of 2 turbo axes with one
unit power of 11240 horses of strength each.
The maximum speed is 295 kilometers per hour. The reach 1952 kilometers, and
the maximum height of flight 4600 meters. From this helicopter have manufactured many
versions, each according to a specific need.
Next I will show you some images, although they are not in order
chronological, nor are all the models or variants of this helicopter.
The V29 was the original prototype, then the mi-26 in original version for the
transport of military cargo. Then we have the MI 26A, which is a version
updated and improved of the mi-26 original. The MI26M is a version
modified and optimized for a better performance.
The MI 26 MS, is a version for medical evacuation.
The MI26S was a special modification that was made to MI-26, to attend to
Chernobyl nuclear disaster, due to the great pollution and radiation that
they received are abandoned close to This plant in Ukraine. The MI-26NEF-M,
military version of anti-submarine war.
MI 26P, is a version for the civil transport with a capacity of 63
passengers MI-26 PK, helicopter crane.
MI-26TP, version for the combat of fires.
MI-26TS, export version. These are some of the more
representative but there are some much more specific, like those
intended for the transport of containers of cargo or personnel exclusively.
Friends: thank you very much for coming up
this point of the video and we'll see you in next time
