Dual-types, while it's not the best way to measure strength in a pokemon, it can definitely
be vital to a success or failure of a pokemon.
As you guys know from last weeks video there are some clear cut great typings to have and
there others that you wanna stay away from.
And since Game Freak introduced the concept of dual typings all the way back in generation
1 there are definitely some Dual types that have great synergy with each other.
And Today I would like to take the time to discuss that.
Welcome to the Top 5 Strongest Pokemon Dual-types.
What I'll be factoring in to this video is type effectiveness, resistances, weaknesses,
how good pokemon of that dual-typing are, and how good of moves there are for both types.
Now before we start a couple of ground rules I want to lay out for you.
First I want to avoid using multiple combos of the same type because 1 it would make the
video all about the steel typing and 2 it would get really reptative.
So you won't be seeing multiple dual typings with a certain type.
And Secondly I want to try to avoid putting dual types on this list that havent been used
on a pokemon yet just because well it doesn't exist yet.
But I did have to make an exception for 1.
That being said remember again this video is 100 percent my own opinion and if you do
not share it that is fine.
Be sure to let me know why i'm wrong in the comment section below.
If you guys enjoy this video be sure to leave a like subscribe and share this video with
a friend and with that being said let's get started.
5 Remember when I said in my previous video
that the electric flying dual type is one of the best dual typings?
Well now is the time to explain that because coming in at number 5 we have the dual typing
of Electric and Flying.
Now right off the bat one of the best things about this typing has to be its weaknesses
which are only to rock and ice.
Two types that are not very good and can be easily countered by various different types.
For more info on why these types are bad feel free to check out my worst pokemon type video.
And keeping defenses in mind having resistantances to 5 different types and a immunity can give
the typing some room to do well defensively.
Pair that with the fact that it can't get paralyzed and I think you got yourself a very
effective dual type.
And on the offensive side it can take care of some really powerful types like water and
fighting along with flying bug and grass.
And in the move department there is no shortage of useful moves.
There's thunderbolt, air slash, wild charge, drill peck, volt switch and hurricane.
You also got a great healing move in roost.
And if you take a look at the pokemon with this typing sure you got oricorio and emolga
who are not good, but i dont think its because of its typing more so the fact that stat wise
they are complete garbage.
Where as with thundurus and zapdos they both do very well in competitive battle.
Sure you can say its because they are legendaries but we have seen some that suck too.
There is a couple of problems that do keep this dual typing from being further up the
list.
The first of which is the fact that there aren't that many non exclusive special attacking
flying moves.
Yes there's hurricane and air slash but none of the electric flying types can actually
learn them.
Stealth Rocks are also an immensely popular set up move which definitely can be a problem
as you will always be taking a good chunk of damage from it.
If these moves were accessible and stealth rocks weren't as popular I think we would
be having a very different conversation right now.
4 Alright Now I know I said that I was going
to try and avoid talking about dual types that aren't used yet but this specific typing
I had to make an exception for because the potential for greatness is so vast.
I am of course talking about pairing up the 2 most offensive typings in the game fighting
and ground.
I actually had a pretty tough time choosing between This dual typing and water and ground.
Water and ground would be better defensively but I've already got so many defensive dual
types that I thought bringing in the ultimate attacker would be more interesting to talk
about.
This dual typing would probably be the best possible offensive typing because it would
counter 8 different types and 2 of them would be quad weak to it.
One being rock and the other being steel.
Now sure you could switch either one of these two typings for ice or rock to get more super
effective hits but I just think that fighting and ground are way better all around.
With this dual typing sure you will have a bevy of weaknesses, but you'll also have
an immunity, 4 resistances one of which is quad, and the aforementioned 8 different type
counters.
And for moves this type combo synergizes perfectly because both mainly focus on physical attacks.
You got earthquake, drain punch, drill run, close combat, dig, mach punch you get the
point.
Like I said before there aren't any actual pokemon that have this typing so I can't really
draw any comparisons here but I just know that this dual-typing would be absolutely
insane.
3 Now whenever I think about the strongest pokemon
types one that immediately pops into my brain is of course the dragon type.
Sure it's only super effective to itself but its got 4 resistances 3 weaknesses and
only 2 types resist it.
Plus dragon type moves and stats are just so powerful.
So it got me thinking, what type would best compliment dragon?
And well besides steel, because that will show up later, the best ones I could think
of were fire and water.
Fire would be more offensive with 5 super effective hits, more resistances, and gain
neutrality against fairies.
Where as water is more defensive with only 2 weaknesses to dragon and fairy and 3 resistances
to steel fire and water.
But with the water typing you also don't have to worry about stealth rocks which again is
the most popular set up move.
It was a really tough decision but I decided to go with the more defensive of the 2 typings
which is water dragon.
Now with this choice you do have to worry about fairies but I'd rather worry about 2
typings than 3.
Plus let's not make it seem like this dual typing cant do anything on offense because
even though fire has more super effective hit water dragon still does well against 4
different types.
Combine that with 3 resistances 2 of which are quad resistant and you got yourself a
good all around pokemon.
But a typing is nothing without its moves and to keep with its all around versatility
both can function well as a physical or special attacker.
You got moves like aqua jet, dragon claw, surf, draco meteor, scald, dragon rush, and
probably the best setup move in dragon dance.
A perfect pokemon to match this whole versatile theme would have to be kingdra.
Sure its stats aren't the best thing around but they're really balanced which can make
things unpredictable.
Overall Water and Dragon made it on to this list because of its unpredictability and versatility.
Stuff like that can make or break battles.
2 Ah, do you guys remember the good old days
of gen 5 when there were still pokemon with no weaknesses?
I mean come on you guys gotta remember the fun battles with people who hacked their spiritomb
giving them the ability wonder guard?
oh … the fun times.
But anyways yeah the next dual typing to show up on this list is the ghost and dark type.
Now I will say this, if there was a ghost and normal type I probably would have put
that on the list instead of dark because well, its better.
But since I already discussed an unused dual type I thought to this time around I would
talk about a dual typing that is actually used.
And even though it's not as good as ghost normal ghost dark is far from the worst dual
typing.
It's got 3 immunities 1 resistance and only 1 weakness to fairies.
But even having a weakness to a type like fairy isnt enough to make this dual typing
bad defensively, in fact it's still very good.
Just take a look at mega sableye yes it huge reason for why it's so good is because of
its stats but that ghost and dark typing does play a big factor as well.
And on the offensive side you dont really have much to work with becuase both types
counter the same thing so you'll only have the advantage over psychic and ghost types.
But again this typing is good because of it offensive capabilities its more so because
of how great this thing can be defensively.
And movewise there is no shortage of stally and annoying moves in both typings.
You got, confuse ray, destiny bond, memento, knock off, taunt, foul play, sucker punch
and will-o-wisp.
I know the last one isnt a ghost move but so many get it that you gotta let it slide.
As for success stories spiritomb was pretty good but had a serious fall from grace, but
sableye with the help of mega evolution has established a good defensive niche in the
pokemon metagame.
And you know what they say defense wins championships.
1 Well I think you guys saw this coming.
By far the best typing to add to a dual type has to be the steel type.
You can pair steel with literally anything and it will still find a way to be good.
It's a great complimentary piece to add with its amazing defensive capabilities.
But which typing is the best to add.
There's bug steel, ghost steel, flying steel, dragon steel, but what I found to be the most
powerful typing to add to steel was the newly added fairy type.
I mean every single pokemon with this dual typing has a BIG impact in the meta game.
Klefki establish a good niche as a stally support pokemon, magearna is one of the best
pivots in its tier, and do I really need to say anything about mawile?
The things a frickin beast.
And I think I didn't emphasis enough how great fairy steel is defensively.
The typing has a whopping 9 ressistantences, one of which is a quad resistance, and 2 immunities
to poison and dragon.
And to top it all off you only have to worry about 2 types, ground and fire.
And on the offensive side it no slouch either.
Fairy steel does well against 6 different types 3 of which are some of the most used
types in the meta game.
(Fairy fighting dragon) Now in the moves department I will say both types lack a certain something.
Steel needs more special moves and fairy needs more physical moves.
But having attacks like flash cannon, play rough, moonblast, iron head, and bullet punch
are good enough to do the job.
Steel is just the perfect secondary type to synergize with something as offensive as fairy.
And thats why to me Fairy steel is the best dual typing.
