Stronelairg - Duration: 3:43.

We're here in October.

We're about 90% complete

in all our civils works

around the building.

We will have that complete this month.

We've been shuttering and doing the steelwork

and pouring this week for the new generator slab for the building.

Completing the kerbing works and footpath works, preparing for surfacing.

The building is becoming

more and more complete every day

with the installation of doors,

electrical equipment and all the associated plant that goes along with that.

That's us 21m up above the site.

The main challenge is the wind.

Obviously, for the height of the building

and size of cranes we had to use,

the wind was a major factor in stopping us lifting.

We've come up here to put

blast proof walls and ceilings

round these transformers.

If you do get a fire or an explosion, you will damage other parts of the building.

We do all our framework, all our column encasements, then we put our steel up

and then we clad it with these durasteel boards

and they're what takes the blast, the impact.

There is a massive coordination meeting held every day

to determine who is travelling on the spine road

and how we can make sure no one's affected by deliveries

of wind turbines, components of the wind turbines, transformers.

There's a massive logistical operation involved

in getting transformers to the substation.

You're moving something that's 100 tonnes and 40m in length.

Because we're delivering such a heavy and awkward load,

we take priority over all other movements on site.

Because we cannot afford to stop on the hill.

Our transformer is delivered on the back of a flatbed modular trailer.

And is lifted off with what's called a megalift system.

The trailer will then be removed from underneath it.

We then replace the trailer with four stools which allow us to build the transformer on these stools.

It will take about a week to assemble in its temporary location.

It will then be skidded into its permanent location using a jack and skid system.

So this is the main camp

that services the entire

Siemens BAM operation

at Stronelairg wind farm.

We've got a canteen, a gym,

TV room, drying rooms.

Everything we need for when winter hits.

So we've got the Hagland, we've got the Bobcats.

All the food is cooked fresh on-site there.

You don't have to cook anything yourself, it's all done for you.

And if you're working at the platform, everything is brought up there as well.

We've got 90 bunkabins. They get cleaned every day, heated, they've got wi-fi, they're powered.

You absolutely want for nothing

up here, nothing.

Everything is supplied for you.

It's just a wonderful setup, wonderful.

Speaking English is FUN! - Duration: 4:31.

Hi there! This is Cedric from MosaLingua. In today's video, I will talk about why

it is important to speak as soon as possible when learning English.

Ok, you might think it sounds a bit scary but with a

bit of preparation, it's quite the opposite.

We'll discover it's actually a good fun. Let me tell you why!

We at MosaLingua,

insist that you should start to speak as soon as possible when you learn a language.

Not only is this more efficient for your expression, it's also just great fun.

Whether you exchange in real life or with a correspondent over the Internet

this will definitely spice up your learning experience. When you're learning

English you often focus on understanding the language, mostly via reading or

listening. Oral expression is quite often left behind and this is something

you should change very quickly. I'm sure you would agree we stress enough the

importance of understanding English. The whole world communicates in English and

the internet mostly speaks in English; This really opens the door to world of

possibilities. I'm not even talking about the cultural offering that becomes

available to you which is huge and diverse. Yet why not also speak it?

Quite often people shy away from that and you can understand why. We've been all

traumatised by English oral practice in high school. How embarrassing was that?

Besides not everyone lives in an english-speaking context so why would we

want to speak English right from the beginning?

Yes frankly, it is just great! Why is that? There's so many reason I don't even know

where to start but I'll try...

Meeting new and interesting people. The whole world

speaks English, not only people from english-speaking countries. You will

definitely meet fascinating people from diverse backgrounds that will inspire

you. They will understand that you are only learning. They've been there too.

Even the natives will be amazed that you can speak some of the language.

Discover the world. Imagine yourself chatting with people from Chile, South

Africa, Indonesia or even Korea... you could travel to those places! Speaking with

natives is a fantastic chance to dive into the

daily life and discover places and cultures wouldn't dreams of reaching before.

Laughing and learning while making mistakes. Forget the embarrassment

of speaking English in public. Once you understand that making mistakes is the

best way to make progress in the language, you will laugh about each of

them. And trust me, something that is truly funny is also something that you won't forget.

Learn new expression. Reading and listening will only get you

so far. Having conversations with other speakers will take you to the next level.

Very quickly, they will introduce you to the funniest slang expressions and the

most interesting idioms. Not only will this boost your knowledge of English but

it's also a very entertaining way to learn a language.

Get motivation.

These great interactions with people will definitely inspire you to go further. You

will also start to improve your flow and your pronunciation, and this will start a

virtuous circle that will push you to go even further.

Build unshakable confidence.

After a while, speaking English will become second nature. Even if it's

not perfect you will be able to: have friends from every country, travel the

world, benefit from better professional prospects, welcome foreigners to your

place and maybe make some money with Airbnb, be an awesome person!

Well I really hope I've convinced you to get started because this is something that

has changed the life of everyone here at MosaLingua. And we really want you to

experience the same thing. If you're ready to go for it, we are definitely

here to help you and this will come sooner than you think!

Wow, that was me talking to you in a foreign language. As you probably guessed by my

accent I'm French, and you know what? I really had good fun speaking to you in

English too. And if you enjoyed this video, give it a like and more

importantly: subscribe to our channel for more language learning tips with MosaLingua.

Happy learning and see you soon!

At least 10 dead, 15 injured, including three S. Koreans after van hits pedestrians in north Toronto - Duration: 1:59.

Now the latest on the van-ramming incident in Toronto.

The death toll now stands at at least 10... with 15 injured.

The South Korean government has now confirmed that two of the dead are South Korean nationals.

The suspect is in custody and authorities are trying to determine a motive.

Lee Ji-won has more.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 Monday afternoon, local time, in the North York area

at the intersection of Yonge(Young) Street and Finch Avenue.

The driver of the white rental van is said to have jumped the curb, striking a number

of pedestrians.

These witnesses described the chaos that unfolded in front of them.

"He just went on the sidewalk he just started hitting everybody man.

He hit every single person on the sidewalk, anybody in his way he hit, the bus stop, everything

shattered.

"....And there were four bodies on the ground.

Police and the ambulance hadn't arrived yet but people were trying to revive them, obviously

to no avail....But by the time the police and paramedics got there, they, they tried

again and didn't work and so they covered the bodies, put them in body bags and taken

them away...

"

Among the more than a dozen injured... are three South Korean nationals.

Seoul's foreign ministry says that as of Tuesday afternoon, Korea time, one is seriously injured

and the other two are still being monitored.

There has been much concern about the safety of South Korean nationals as the incident

occurred in Toronto's downtown where the city's Korea town is located.

The suspect fled the scene... but was arrested after a tense standoff with police several

blocks away.

He is now in custody and being investigated, but details of the probe are still scarce.

According to U.S. media, he has been identified as 25-year-old Alek Minassian, a college student,...

who, unlike previous reports, was not known to the authorities.

Police believe he acted deliberately and they are trying to determine his motive, but they

add that the incident doesn't currently appear to be related to terror.

The incident also occurred as foreign ministers of the G7 leading industrialized nations were

holding meetings in the city center.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted from Ottawa expressing his condolensces to

those affected.

Thierry Henry names forgotten Arsenal star who should be rated Premier League best ● News Now ● #AFC - Duration: 1:44.

Thierry Henry hailed Nicolas Anelka as one of the Premier League's greatest players

and insists he doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

The French ace was snapped up by Arsenal as a teenager, winning the Premier League and

the FA Cup in the 1997/98 season,

before returning for spells at Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea

– where he won the title once more – and West Bromwich Albion.

Over the course of a glittering career, he won the Champions League, Serie A, Super Lig

at club level and Euro 2000 with France.

But Henry feels his compatriot is underappreciated on these shores and he praised the impact

that Anelka had in English football.

'We all know that he terrorised teams when he first arrived in England,' he told Sky

Sports.

'He, for me – people do not mention him as they should mention him.

'He was one of the best strikers we have ever seen in this league.

'He won it at Arsenal at a young age, when it was very difficult.

You had to battle away from home all the time.

'He did it at Chelsea, he won the league there.

'Obviously we all know the story, he left to go to Real Madrid but we are talking about

one of the best strikers we have seen and I think he was pivotal to that [Arsenal] squad.'

Q&A: "Children aren't born resilient" with Dr Kaylene Henderson - Duration: 8:01.

Does anyone have any questions?

So bedtime... and, so my daughter has just

started climbing out of the cot so we took off the door so now she

has to stay in bed and we have to tell her to stay in bed so this is more of a

discipline question I guess, but it's also resilience, because she just does

and she's at that age where she's just almost two, so she's coming on tantrum sort

of age... is that that sort of stress, you know to leave her in that...

in her room, because if we leave the door a little bit open she's just out

there, and she's just "num-num" I want food *cough cough* "I'm sick"

she's just got all the manipulating, all the techniques

I'm just wondering like is that like you

know what about closing the door, that sort of sounds like that bad

stress that you were talking about, just letting her cry it out in there

what would you suggest?

I think if she if she's distressed then it's

it's better to be able to position yourself as being her comforter so

leaving children in a position where you're not providing their their need

for comfort is is generally not ideal what I generally suggest in situations

like that where you're expecting her to sort of tackle something in a new way is

provide opportunities through the day when she's alert she's connected with

you she's playing because they're actually the times that she learns best

and then provide her with lots of opportunities to practice what it is that you're expecting

of her

so if that's the case, and you're hoping that

she'll be able to stay in a room for the night which is not unreasonable

given her age, although you'll set her up for success knowing that you can come in

and check on her and make sure she's going okay if that's what she needs from you

what I'd suggest is during the day grabbing you know some figures some toy

figures or you know even making your own, you can make your own out of toilet

rolls, whatever it is and setting up a practice type situation in

her play so letting her know "so from tonight what we're going to do is this"

and you can show her in your play, and then you can practice that

you can do role plays the same sort of thing you

can actually practice during the day

okay so do you remember what we're going to do tonight?

So you go into bed, and I'll do this, I'll say goodnight to you in this way

and then we're going to close the

door and what are you going to do?

excellent let's have a practice now"

because what we know is that children learn best when

they're feeling playful feeling

connected so if you can practice and encourage her to learn what's expected

of her, at those times, you're going to set her up more for

success than responding to the situation in a way that she finds distressing, does

that make sense?

The thing I've done with my kids too is just to

let them know that you're going to keep coming back

and checking on them and the first few

times you do this you check on them at such ridiculously frequent intervals

that you literally would go out and then turn around and come back in say:

see this is me checking on you I told you I'd check on you okay let's do it again

you do your thing I'll come back and check on you and then you

do the same thing so crazy - you know really frequent at the start and then

you just increase your intervals

but that is just reassuring for her to know that she doesn't have to wait too long for

you to be there

and she can maintain what she's supposed to be doing in that period of time, yeah

otherwise it goes on and on and bedtime becomes a dreaded time, knowing that you're not going

to be available to her anymore, tricky though, I remember it well

Any other questions?

Yeah, I've got a little four year old (four going on fourteen!)

She has discovered a great strategy when we try to give her options of things, options

of things to do

she's figured out that if she says "I don't know"

it's a great way of trying to get her off the hook

How would you recommend we push past that?

Cause if we say... give her some options for a situation

she just persists with: "I don't know"

and we're kind of like... okay... um...

So in terms of when you're trying to encourage problem-solving?

Yeah I think particularly in highly stressful situations when she's upset about something

and when we suggest her to come up with options of things she could do to get her

out of that situation

So a couple of things, the first one is that kids - your brain works in a different way

when you're upset, so different brain pathways are activated when you're

really upset and they're not the ones that are responsible for language and

logic and problem solving so it's always really helpful when your child is upset

to help them calm down first and when they're calm then you do the

whole "okay so what options do you have?" because if you try - I mean we've all been

there as parents you try to talk to your kids when they're really upset or

explain why they needn't be upset or try to talk to them about their options and

it just doesn't go in when they're really upset or overwhelmed so it's

really important to get the order right so you helped children calm down first

and then when they're calm - and you might find that just doing that is more

successful so come and have a cuddle I hope you calm down first you're

obviously feeling really upset and then when they're calm: "okay darling what do you

think your options are now now that you're feeling a bit better and you're

thinking more clearly I wonder if you can come up with a couple of options

that might make this situation a little better."

So you might find that helpful

the other thing is to keep it playful if they're still struggling so you can say

okay no worries well I'll see if I can come up with one and then you can come

up with one that's ridiculous, that's so playful and so so absurd that it sort of

takes the pressure off and makes it less of a stress inducing situation because

if you've been able to come up with something so absurd then it mustn't be

too serious a situation and then it might also make her realise, anything

I come up with is likely to be a better than dads suggestion because that was

ridiculous so it's sort of just...

It's like that anyway!

But it just reduces the pressure on that situation

so you might find that helpful, yeah

What would you recommend for a five year old who takes an hour and a half

to eat a bowl of rice-bubbles?

Half an hour to put their shoes on, when you're trying to get out the door and you don't want

to get up at 4am How do you not bring stress into that situation?

One of the things I've found really helpful

in that morning rush is staying with my kids along the way

What I found when I'm trying to get ready separately from them, is when I try and

get them up send them down for breakfast and then I go and get dressed and have a

shower or get ready for the day, is they generally come up with a hundred and one

reasons to seek me out and ask so many questions of me that really don't need

to be asked in that moment: "what happens to us when we die" all sorts of things

come up at that moment where you wish they would just focus on the task

What I've found is actually more helpful is recognising that that's actually the

time that they want to bank a bit of connection with me and likewise your

children with you, that's their time to be with you because they know that

you're setting off on your on your path to work they're setting off on their own

adventures, and they won't get to reconnect with you until the end of the day

It's your time to connect with them, so what I've

found is far more successful in the morning

is that I get up about twenty minutes before them

I get myself ready for the day

and then I sit and have breakfast with them and then I go to the bathroom with them

and we're all doing our tasks together, and they can sort of pace it with you

because they know that you're soon going to be

finishing up with breakfast and going to

the bathroom, and so they're going to want to come too

I've found that a lot more helpful with my children,

just getting ready together

you know, it might not be the answer but it's certainly helped

Tropical fish for Aquaponics - Duration: 14:27.

Hello sustainable growers.

This is Jonathan from Melbourne Aquaponics.

Today, we will see what are the different types of tropical fish that you can grow in

your own aquaponics setup, if you live in a tropical country.

So the snakehead fish is an interesting predator to keep in aquaponics.

This fish has got a very wide mouth and is able to jump out of the water to eat some

very nice insects on the surface.

It's also able to eat some other fish so you can't really mix the sizes with this type

of fish, but it's very interesting because it grows pretty fast.

So you're going to create -- you're going to grow a lot of fish protein very fast.

Another interesting fact with this fish is that it's able to breathe the air directly

out of the atmosphere.

So basically it can remain alive for a few days out of the water as long as the body

stays moist, you know.

It needs to breathe some moist air and the flesh is quite good.

So here in Asia, they keep it alive and they just still kill it when the consumer wants

to buy it.

The giant gourami is an interesting fish, as well.

First, the shape is very unusual, but also it's able to eat some vegetables directly,

so in aquaponics, it's very convenient.

If you have any old leaves, you can directly give them to your fish.

The fish are going to eat them and therefore, you don't have to spend a crazy quantity of

money in the fish food.

It's also a fish that is growing quite fast and the flesh is pretty nice.

So I quite recommend this fish in tropical aquaponics.

It's also called elephant ear fish because of the specific shape of its body and its

mouth.

So later on we're going to fish one and I'm going to show you the shape exactly of the

body.

It's very interesting and in Asia they very often grill it and they eat it and they make

it stand on the plate.

It looks quite interesting when you eat this type of fish.

Jonathan: How many have you got?

Male: 4.

Jonathan: Oh.

Male: Small one.

Jonathan: Really nice fish.

Male: Let's see.

Jonathan: Ah, yeah.

Now, I understand.

And how old is this fish?

Male: About six months.

Jonathan: Six months?

So when you get them you buy them like babies?

Male: Yes, a baby.

Jonathan: Fingerlings?

Male: Yes.

Jonathan: From the fish farm?

You buy them?

Male: Buy small one from my neighbor.

Jonathan: From your neighbor?

Male: Neighbor, yeah.

Jonathan: Does he breed them in a pond as well?

Male: Yeah.

Jonathan: They breed them and then you're going to eat it?

Male: No.

Jonathan: When it's bigger?

Male: Most when it's bigger about 1.5 kilograms.

Jonathan: All right.

And how long does it take them?

One year?

Male: About one year.

Jonathan: And do you feed them every day?

Male: Feed them every four or five days.

Jonathan: Wow.

Male: Eats vegetable, many kinds of vegetables and banana.

Jonathan: Oh, you give them banana as well?

And do you know how long it can stay outside of the water?

Can it stay longer?

Male: About 15 minutes.

Jonathan: Oh, yeah.

Okay.

So it's not very long.

It's a really nice fish.

Thank you so much.

Male: Yeah.

Jonathan: Bye.

The catfish are interesting fish for aquaponics.

You got a very wide variety of them.

Here you can see a catfish that looks a bit like the Basa.

But anyway, I'm not going to talk about catfish today because I made a special video about

it.

Here now, we see some sturgeons.

Tortoises are also kept in Vietnam and they are consumed by the population.

I know we don't have this in our culture in Europe, in the States, or in Australia, but

a lot of countries are eating tortoises and they can be kept in aquaponics.

Freshwater prawns it's an excellent candidate for aquaponics.

I think those types of prawns can be grown without any problem in the raft tank system.

So if you got a deep water culture system you can put some freshwater prawns inside

the pond.

Tilapia is a very famous fish, very nice fish to grow.

It accepts some very poor water conditions, but also it grows quite fast.

It has a very nice flesh and it's also a beautiful fish to have because some of them have some

very nice color such as these white and yellow ones.

So now I'm going to show you a few saltwater species that can be interesting for the future

of aquaponics.

Now, we are riding along the different saltwater ponds and they are growing prawns.

Actually, in those ponds, they are growing black tiger prawns.

So black tiger is a very famous species of prawns that offers a very nice flesh, and

it's a very big prawn.

So we can see it right now.

You can see why we call it tiger because you see on the tail you can see those stripes

of color, black and yellow.

It's a very nice prawn to grow, but obviously, it's only saltwater prawns so if you have

a saltwater aquaponics setup you can try to grow some, but at the moment, very few people

in the world are using aquaponics for saltwater.

Here we can see the aeration system or some aerators on the surface of the pond to make

sure that we got enough oxygen in the water.

Here we can see the grouper in the cages.

So the grouper is a very nice fish to grow and to eat.

Again, it's a saltwater fish, but this fish can grow to impressive sizes, so normally

in aquaculture, we don't keep it too long.

We don't grow it too much, but it can really reach some amazing sizes.

So here you can also see how they grow and farm the pearl oysters.

You know those oysters that they grow to produce the pearls.

So those little oysters they are grown until the size where they're going to be grafted

and a little piece of plastic is going to be put inside the oyster where the oysters

are going to develop their shell around the plastic.

It's going to form a fantastic pearl.

Well that's what we saw here with different species of oysters.

Female: So it's now five years.

We need three more years.

It's total of 8 years for one pearl.

Normally, one pearl inside, maximum of two.

Make your earrings, better.

You look like a queen.

Same same but different.

Maybe after 8 years, sit here for a year.

Very long time to make.

Do you open have a pearl inside.

But one particular pearl.

You can see here.

They take about every month.

There's nothing inside.

You can see.

And you can see here the operating room.

Here's the operation room.

Looks like a hospital.

They look a doctor.

We open one oyster.

We have to kill one oyster.

We cut here and cut here: from here and from here.

Just like this.

We pour it.

When I open the oyster, I don't see a pearl but where's your pearl?

I don't know.

Nothing.

Congratulations.

So I also had the opportunity to see a lot of different animals around the farms and

I saw all those little chickens and cows and I thought it was interesting so I'm just

going to let you enjoy a bit of Vietnamese wildlife or farm life

I hope you enjoyed the video.

but I like my steak rare, almost blue rare.

I would say that this is borderline blue rare.

We're going to go ahead and start grilling up this beef.

This stuff is marinated with chilies, red chili peppers...

Oh man, look at that!

We'll throw some of that squid on there as well.

Nothing like grilled squid.

Nothing beats a piece of meat, cooked over these hot coals,

and then you get little crispy burnt parts, and then

I mean, you guys know, if you guys know meat and BBQ,

just that charred flesh, the smokiness that's infused in it,

like it does not get any better than this.

Man...

That marinade, holy sh*t!

It's got kind of a kick to it, because of the red chilies.

Another one of my favorite things that's grilled over a hot fire is squid.

You can see, it's just super good. And let's go.

It's so full of flavor!

Wow!

That's really good! -Yeah.

This one.

The squid marinade, no idea what it is but I see some red chilies in there as well.

-The squid is so fresh.

Yeah, the squid is so fresh!

I think there's garlic in there as well.

Wow!

Got some fresh prawns. This is going to be nice.

Ohhh that prawn, right in the middle!

Look at that!

Oh yeah!

This is amazing... beef, squid, prawn...

Right over some hot ass coals.

So this prawn has cooled down, like check it out, look how big it is.

Peel off the head here.

Yeah, separate it from there.

And there's all that head goop inside.

I don't know about you guys, but whenever I eat shrimp, I look forward to this the first.

This is the first thing I'm going to suck out.

Mmm. Split it, and eat it!

That sounded a little bit dirty.

I just love this smokey environment, like I don't know if you guys can see the smoke

blowing in front of the camera, but this entire restaurant is filled with smoke and people,

all BBQing.

There's some more of that head goop in there, right there.

Yeah, I have to give a shoutout to my girlfriend. She is doing the grilling while I'm doing the filming.

And she's doing an awesome job.

Really good. hehehehe

Yeah, so you gotta get your hands dirty with the shrimp, there's really no other way to do it.

Super huge and meaty.

Putting it right into the chili salt with the lime.

One of the best flavors to go with seafood, for real.

This is kind of a rice cracker, it's got sesame seeds and stuff in it.

You heat it up over a fire, and it puffs up like this.

It's really cool.

You can see.

Ok, so in this dish there is jelly fish, check this out.

Piece of jelly fish.

And we got cilantro, and there's even what looks like

some kind of like stomach or intestinal cavity, I'm not sure.

We got peanuts in here. Mixed with carrots and onions.

Oh this just...

it just smells like a really good seafood salad.

Going right for the jelly fish with the cilantro.

Woah

Can you guys hear me crunching?

It has a crunchy texture, like eating raw squid.

It's so good guys.

Going to break off a piece of this rice cake.

Nothing too much, just kind of snack on.

Loaded with sesame flavor, good god!

It's like... I feel like I'm eating more sesame than actual rice.

So you can use some of the veggies here and make like a little mini wrap.

Dip it in the sauce.

That's going to be awesome.

I'm going to make one of those little wraps that my girlfriend just made.

And I'm going to use this little... it looks like Bibb lettuce.

And then I got the piece of the squid, nicely charred on the edges there.

Throw some onion on it.

And, that's it. Yeah!

I'm going to dip this into a fish sauce that has red chili flakes.

Man that squid is so tender.

We grilled it just perfect, like just the way that I like it.

Look at that, look at the squid with the red chili flakes on it, that it was marinated in.

Ohhhh this is sooooo yummy guys.

I wish you could smell it.

I'm going to go home smelling like awesome BBQ smoke.

Some of the funnest things about grilling is the actual part of grilling.

You know, reaching in there with your chopsticks, flipping the meat and stuff .

So we found this place through Facebook, there's a bunch of Vietnamese foodie groups for Vietnamese people.

So I can't read anything on those sites, but my girlfriend, she went through and found out that in Nha Trang,

a lot of people recommend this place.

Another thing I really like about this restaurant is the fact that it's open-air.

We have the breeze coming in.

And the temperature here in Nha Trang is really nice, it's about 28° degrees Celsius right now.

And it's night time, it's about 7pm or so.

And it's just a wonderful evening experience.

It's the last piece of prawn right on there.

Alright, I still have this one I haven't eaten yet.

So we're going to go ahead and take off the shell.

Peeling shrimp reminds me of when I worked in several different restaurants.

And we'd peel like 500 shrimps or something, like before we start service.

For shrimp salads and shrimp cocktails.

Those were a lot of shrimps.

I tell ya. And you had to do it real quick.

Luckily, these ones, you don't really have to scoop out the poop track.

Sometimes there's poop up in here, which is the ridge of the shrimp body.

So far, none of these have any of that.

They're really clean. And super fresh.

Very fresh. Some of the freshest seafood in Nha Trang.

Look at this, this guy is great.

We're going to just peel the head like this.

And ooooh! Look inside!

Wow!

There it is, look at that!

That is amazing!

This stuff is packed with flavor. If you don't eat it the way I do,

by just sucking it out of the head, you can definitely scoop it out

and you can use it really richen your broths.

Like seafood broths and stuff.

Or even for hot pot, throw a bunch of this goop into the hot pot,

and it's really going to add some depth to your dishes.

We've pretty much eaten all of the chili salt with lime.

And so we're just going to dip the rest of this in there.

Absorb some of that goodness.

Yeahhhh, how about I just scoop some of that, yeah that looks great.

Cheers guys!

That was freaking awesome guys. I'm so stuffed!

Props to my girlfriend for doing the grilling and stuff while I was filming.

Children aren't born resilient | Dr Kaylene Henderson - Duration: 10:14.

Thanks everyone for coming I'm Dr Kaylene Henderson

I'm a child psychiatrist I'm a mother of three and I'm also the founder of A Dose of Awesomeness

and today we're going to be talking about resilience

so resilience is the ability to bounce back keep going and adapt when life throws at

you the tricky stuff the tough times the setbacks and the stress that inevitably

come our way in life, now resilience isn't an innate trait it's not a trait

that children are born with so as parents and educators one of the

important parts of our role is actually to to build up this important quality

in children, and there's quite a few ways we can do this both through the

experiences that we offer them and also through our interactions with them

now one of the really important ways we can build up resilience in children is by

allowing them to experience both the ups and downs of life, we all want our

children to have happy magical childhoods and that will mostly be the

case, childhood is a really fun happy time free from the stresses of grown up

land but it shouldn't always be the case it's really important that our children

are exposed to manageable setbacks and disappointments and that they're allowed

the opportunities to face those setbacks and disappointments because when they

have a chance to handle the little stuff then we equip them to be more capable of

handling the big stuff, when they get bigger and certainly that becomes

increasingly important as they become teenagers and young adults that they

have had those experience that opportunities to practice coping with

the tricky stuff in life that they'll inevitably face it's important to

distinguish between a couple of the different types of stress that our

children face so when we allow our children to face manageable setbacks and

disappointments, tolerable stress if you like, in the context of a supportive

relationship then this produces what we call positive stress responses in

children this is the stuff that really builds resilience in our kids in

contrast some children are exposed to more prolonged or overwhelming or

intense stress which produces what we call toxic stress responses so for

example some children as we know are sadly exposed to abuse, neglect, family

violence, this is really overwhelming intense stress that isn't buffered by a

supportive relationship so it's sort of a double whammy for kids if you like so

it's important to be able to distinguish between these different types of stress

for a couple of reasons, firstly it really highlights for us that we

shouldn't be protecting children from stress, stress is actually really good

for kids but we need to make sure that the kind of stress that they're exposed

to is a stress that helps and not harms them, the second way we can promote

resilience in children is by allowing them opportunities to take non dangerous

risks, this is really important and an area that I think a lot of us as parents

probably don't do enough of compared with our predecessors, children need

practice judging and taking risk what we don't want is to protect children from

these opportunities only to have them grow up to be teenagers who are having a

crack at risk-taking for the first time when they're deciding whether or not to

get into a drunk friend's car we actually need to provide children with

opportunities to judge which risks to take and which risks to leave well alone

so an example we often think about with children is tree climbing and it's one

that always comes to my mind since my children are avid tree climbers, the

important thing is children are climbing trees taller than your head to try and

keep your mouth shut when all you want to call out is "be careful be careful be careful"

because that doesn't help our kids, but instead think about how you can

scaffold the experience so that you're teaching them how to judge that risk so

teaching them that as they go higher than you can reach as they go higher up

the tree to have a down plan so for each branch they climb think about how

they're going to get down think about testing branches as they go

the key is really to teach them how to manage the experience rather than

prevent them from having them because children really do need experience

judging and taking risks just like they need to practice all sorts of things

when they're young, it really equips them for adulthood and really does build

resilience as they get older, one of the other really helpful ways to build

resilience in our children is for parents and educators to help children

just enough and by that I mean just enough that they can actually do tasks

by themselves my dad always comes to mind when I think about this when I was

a child he used to loosen the jam jar just enough that it was no longer

impossible but it's still pretty tricky to get open and when you manage tricky

tasks as a child it not only extends your skill set and builds upon your

sense of mastery but it really instills in you a sense that you are a competent

and capable person when you can master tricky things, I often also think

of my one of my daughters who when she was about 18 months she was this

gorgeous little blonde curly-haired girl who was very into any opportunity to

tackle something that she might have otherwise thought was too hard for her

and she couldn't yet say yes I did it by myself but whenever she did tackle

something that was a little too tricky for her and managed to succeed with that

task she would throw both her hands up

in the air and declare "SELF!"

and I just remember being struck by how important those moments are for our children those

"self" moments you know each time we allow our children to have those self moments

we are really building their sense of competence and that they are a capable

person and that they can handle the tricky stuff which inevitably ties into

resilience, now it's not just important to think about the physical tasks you

know we often think about helping our children just enough with tying their

shoelaces or dressing themselves or managing tricky playground equipment

whatever it might be but it's equally important to think about how it can help

children just enough with difficult or challenging social situations, so when

children come to you with a difficult social situation it's

important, equally important, to think about how you can help that child just

enough to manage the situation themselves in those social situations so

when children come to you and they've been left out of a birthday party or

they're having trouble with a child who won't share or whatever it might be it's

equally important to think how can I help this child just enough to be able

to manage this themselves providing that connection that empathic

understanding that that moment of I get it

that is really important for children and for your relationship allowing them

to come up with opportunities or ideas for what they might be able to do in

that situation and then empowering them to choose which one they're going to go

with, so you're really helping them just enough to learn problem-solving skills

themselves and that's really important it's really important that our children

do feel like independent, capable, problem solvers some people think it's helpful

to throw kids into the deep end, push them into situations in which they don't

have the skills to manage or to push children away when they're feeling upset

and allow them to deal with their feelings on their own and they

mistakenly believe, albeit in a well-intentioned way, that this will

build resilience in their children but it's actually quite the opposite our

children need to know that they're supported going into situations that

they find challenging and they equally need to know that we're their go to person

if they're having a tough time if they're feeling upset and requiring

comfort it's certainly something that is really important for children to know as

they get older and as they go further that they can always come to us no

matter what, when life gets difficult that that does build resilience that

certainly builds independence when children know that they can go further

because they've got us to turn to if things have got a little tricky now this

might be a different way of parenting them than you've experienced it often is

for parents and if that's the case I'd certainly love to help you learn how to

provide that sort of relationship for children, but it's incredibly important

to always be your child's go-to person and in fact it's even better if children

have more than one go-to person it's really helpful if they are in an

educational care environment or if they are with extended family that they

equally feel supported by whoever they're with that they know that

whatever challenges they may face in that situation that they can

turn to whoever they're with and feel comforted if needed to feel supported

and to be seen as being good and capable, all those qualities that we want to

instill in our children and we want them to see themselves as being, when we build

this really healthy foundation for children by allowing them to take non-dangerous

risks, by allowing them to experience both the ups and downs of

life, by providing them with opportunities to have positive stress

responses, by helping them just enough and by always being they go-to person

providing comfort when they need, we really do provide a healthy foundation

for children that will set them up to be better equipped to handle whatever life

might throw at them down the track that's how we build resilience and when

we do this for our children you as parents and educators can stand back and say

"SELF!"

the thing I've done with my kids too is just to let them know that you're going

to keep coming back and checking on them and the first few times you do this you

check on them at such a ridiculously frequent interval that you literally you

go out and you turn around you come back in and say "see this is me checking on

you I told you I'd check on you okay let's do it again you do your thing I'll

come back and check on you and then you and then you do the same thing so crazy

you know really frequent

South Korea makes final preparations for Friday's inter-Korean summit - Duration: 2:31.

Just three days to go now until the inter-Korean summit,... and the South Korean government

is doing its final checks.

That includes facilities for all the journalists who'll be covering the big event, and the

rehearsals.

Let's connect to our Blue House correspondent, Hwang Hojun,... who's on the phone with the

latest.

Hojun,... details are coming out now by the hour.

What can you tell us?

Good afternoon, Devin.

The pace is definitely picking up with only three days left.

As we speak right now, the inter-Korean summit preparatory committee is holding its own rehearsal

session at the summit venue,.... the "Peace House" on the South Korean side of Panmunjom,...

to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok, who heads the committee is attending the rehearsal

along with the three subcommittee chiefs in charge of the agenda; communication and public

relations; and operations support.

Every detail related to the actual summit, including the path people will take, the order

of events, and the furniture inside the building, will be examined during the rehearsal.

They will convene afterwards to discuss any issues or concerns and will implement necessary

changes on the final run through on the eve of the summit, which will involve more detail

and of course more people.

On Wednesday, North Korea will send its delegates led by Kim Chang-son, an official from Pyongyang's

State Affairs Commission, to the Peace House, and the two Koreas will hold a joint rehearsal.

And while the Presidential Office of Cheong Wa Dae didn't release the time of the rehearsal,

it did say the joint rehearsal will take place at the exact same time as the leaders of Seoul

and Pyongyang are set to meet on Friday.

They also confirmed there will be no stand-ins for President Moon or Kim Jong-un.

Along with the rehearsal today, the committee will kick off its operation of the situation

rooms in both the third floor of the Peace House and the Main Press Center located at

the KINTEX exhibition hall in Goyang, northwest of Seoul.

The Main Press Center which will welcome media outlets from Korea and abroad will open on

Thursday.

As of this morning, over two-thousand-eight-hundred reporters from 41 countries have registered

to cover the historic event.

And Devin, just about an hour and a half ago, the Blue House revealed what will be served

at the dinner that President Moon and Kim Jong-un will be attending Friday evening.

According to the Blue House spokesperson, the dinner menu will reflect the efforts of

those who contributed to the peace and unification of the two Koreas.

Dishes prepared by Seoul will include ones from the hometowns of the late South Korean

Presidents Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun as well from Moon Jae-in's hometown -- also food

from Switzerland, where Kim Jong-un spent part of his childhood.

Pyongyang-style naengmyun, or cold noodles, will also be served.

Back to you, Devin.
