Hello Everyone, this is Marty. Today I will tell you about G&G RK74-E AEG which really surprised me with its ergonomics!
I like AKs. I LOVE AKs! For the most time in airsoft I have been playing with AKs.
I started with classic AK-47 from Cyma, then AKM from Cyma and later - AKM from E&L. Then I got tired from all this AK classics and I decided to go with modern AK.
And I bought AK-104 in modern version. But eventually got tired of it as well.
The thing is it's freaking heavy and that's the main problem of almost all AKs - they are even heavier than real ones!
SO few months ago I sold my last AK and decided to go with M-series, you can find the review of it on my channel.
Surprisingly, my results became better. First of all this AEG is much more lighter and easier to control. Second - it has better ergonomics.
Telescopic stock, comfortable handguard, easy reload (easier than any AK by default).
But still my desire to play with AK remains, and I wanted AK with a comfort and ergonomics similar to M-series.
And I found it! I liked this model the very first time I held it in my hands.
But as many other AK enthusiasts I was thinking that AK should be AK - after all, this one is a replica of American, not Russian AK.
Of course it's not only American, its being made in some European countries as well, but still - highly tuned version of AK. What is so great about this gun?
First of all its light, less than 3 kg. Just a bit heavier than my Wild Hog. This one is 12" Wild Hog, and I have 13.5".
This AEG is 0.5 kg lighter than similar AKs from LCT or E&L.
Second - this is the most ergonomic AEG of AK-series I've ever seen. Why is that?
Telescopic stock is the same as modern G&G M-series one.
Next is handle. Default M-series handle has too uncomfortable angle for me, I'm not feeling comfortable using that.
I really got attached to AK handles, even standard ones, I like them a lot.
But this handle is even better, nice angle, great finger rest, as good as it gets. The best I've seen so far.
Next - seamless Picatinny rail on dust cover and hand guard for accessories. Dust cover is not wobbling at all, you can attach anything.
Dust cover can be opened by flipping towards rear sights. Rear sights are tightly screwed down, you will not lose it as opposed to other AK replicas.
The key mode handrail is of extended size compared to standard AK one, and adds comfort if you prefer far grip. You can extend your arm really far when gripping.
Key mode allows for installing different sizes of Picatinny rails for attaching flashlights, forward grips and so on.
The hand guard also comes with short integrated Picatinny rail, probably for stubby grip. Might be useful.
The AEG has rear sling mount fir attaching single-point slings. I like those kind of slings as it's the same mount as on M-series.
Magazine lever is of increased side and became wider. I cannot say this is really good solution as it has increased chances or accidental magazine drops. On the other hand - reloading gets faster.
Magazines are proprietary and are made exclusively for this replica. But they are the same as Cyma magazines (and compatible), like 7.62 ones or Magpul.
I personally like standard magazines for this gun, they are transparent. You can also buy additional transparent mags, they are handy to check on BBs remaining.
Another feature which is doubtful for me is charge handle from both sides. Some users might find it handy though.
You can hold the bolt and adjust hop-up, or even secure it with fire selector switch.
Then you just move fire selector down - and the bolt comes back, which is handy.
The disadvantage is charge handle is not detachable, so if it really gets in the way, you might want to saw it off. I will play and see if it's handy.
To get access to battery which is in the hand guard, you need to unscrew this details.
And take the upper cover off
The battery is "nunchaku-type" or three-leaf for 1100 mAh. I also have mini-T adapter because I have that type of a battery. You might be able to fit even bigger battery without it.
Keep in mind that key mode hand guard has holes in it so if you use batteries of other color than black - they will be visible through.
Flash hider is of interesting form and gives this replica distinctive sound.
This replica is almost fully-aluminum that's why it's so light.
All the rest is steel - sling hoop, pins, bolts, sights, trigger guard, magazine extractor, fire selector and even ramrod.
The grip is ABS-plastic, magazine is plastic as well. Stock crane is aluminum.
The insides are even better than models I've reviewed previously.
Hop-up chamber is steel, magazine chamber is covered with plastic so you mag will not fall through accidentally.
Cylinder is brass with a hole, cylinder head is steel. Piston has fully steel teeth, piston head is plastic with ventilation.
As opposed to M-series I have, this model is equipped with electronic trigger system, really handy for single fire mode.
Since muzzle velocity is 150 m/s out of the box which is against airsoft rules in my city, we have replaced the spring with SP-110 one.
So now it's 125 m/s which is more than enough for me.
We have also replaced the nozzle since it's plastic. Now it's metal. And also installed purple Prometheus hop-up rubber. I always use that one.

By the way, G&G mags have really powerful spring. It's good from the one hand, as it has extended longevity.
But based on my experience, if you overload it tightly (100-110 BBs), the compression is really powerful, so nozzle might not get BBs out properly and they will fall down in 10-15 meters.
With 90 BBs it works perfectly. Cyma mags do not have such problem due to weaker spring.
This is not something critical of course as 90 BBs is more than enough for 1 mag. You can also overload it with BBs and keep in that shape for few days to make spring weaker.
After replacing nozzle to steel one the problem disappears so keep that in mind as well.
Thanks for watching, fellas! Please thumb this video up, subscribe my channel and check all the links below.
And of course - use great guns!
