Are you guys familiar with this?
Bringing your rig up and--and just a little tiny bit of bait left on it?
That's one of the most frustrating things...
I'd like to reintroduce
the Underwater Action Cage!
Featuring our GoPro black.
So what we've got here is a crab cage that we've attached our GoPro to
and, um, we have one of these floaty hooks.
We're gonna put a piece of Salt Clam on here
and see what tries to take it.
So we're using Salt Clam Bait today,
which is uh, a preserved clam
and, uh, it's in salt and some kind of secret mixture
*sniffing*
Phew!
and that--that's a... pungent smell.
Alright.
Nice and secure.
There we go,
so hopefully this will float up
with the floatie and uh,
the GoPro can see it.
Ready, GoPro?
Let's do it!
Five or so feet...
not too deep. [Erin:] Alright.
So right now what we're doing is we're just catching bait,
and we're gonna use that bait later on tonight.
You'll probably see that in a different episode. [Erin:] We're just catching bait today...
[Hoping for some big fish later tonight...]
The--the bait of choice around here is blood worms,
so I'm gonna put some blood worms on here...
The Deluxe Dock Demon is longer than the regular Dock Demon
and um, I think it casts better,
especially when I have like, I think this is eight pound test on here,
um, yeah, it casts pretty far when you have a 1/2 ounce / 1 ounce sinker on here,
this is what I think this rod is for,
is to be fishing on a pier, on a dock, either
just dropping it straight down or
casting it out and waiting for bait,
um, I'm not so sure about lure fishing well give that a try later tonight.
Dang it!
Okay, here's the bite. Here's a bite.
Nope.
I bet you it's something really small nipping on it.
--Getting a little "tap, tap, tap, tap, tap!"
But I'm hesitant to set the hook because I think it's a little fish...
What do you know? It's clean.
Hah!--Took all the...
Dang.
A bag of blood worms is $10, and you get 12 worms, okay?
It'll last me probably one trip of fishing.
They work really well,
but it's pricey and they go fast
and a lot of times, I'm targeting like, striped bass with--with bloodworms,
the little fish will nip it before I have the chance to hook into a bass
and that's frustrating.
Nice, juicy blood worm.
There's a fish on here.
Hooked it right through the eye...?
I didn't even-- I didn't even hook set it just hooked itself in the eye.
Story of my life.
Hah, all gone.
Let's try some Salt Clams on here now.
You don't need to put the whole thing on.
I like to rip off or cut off just a small chunk of it.
A little bit goes a long way, just enough to cover the hook.
See?
Let's give that a try.
The cool thing about Salt Clams, from my experience they stay on the hook for a very long time,
whereas, like, when I'm using bloodworms I go through a pack within like, a day?
Um, I've had these Salt Clams for a long time, like they just keep--I can just keep using them over and over again
I don't need to use that much either,
the trick with it is don't use the whole clam, cut it up into smaller pieces.
That is the second really big crab we've caught.
[Danny] Look at his arms.
We should keep them!
They're expensive...
[Yeah they are.] [You should.]
So this is what has been stealing our bait.
These big crabs! Look at that!
That's a big one!
I'm gonna put a piece of cut spot
on the hook
and uh, you know, see what happens versus the Salt Clams.
There we go.
[Erin:] On the Salt Clam?
Yup, on the Salt Clam, that was really quick, too.
Look at these Salt Clams staying strong!
'Kay?
Not coming off.
[Erin:] Woo hoo.
Perfect bait.
Nice-sized perch.
So this is what the clams look like even 20 minutes after soaking.
It's getting weaker, but it's still on here.
Yeah, it hasn't been able to like--
With the bloodworms they were nipping it off every second, and it was really easy to miss the fish,
whereas, this--they're still nipping it, I'm still missing them, but I still got bait on it.
And we're using
Native salt clam bait. You can get your own pack from native salt clam .com, and I'm also using his rig
the rig that they sell, it's
It's pretty useful because I don't have to spend time tying my own rig and just put it on and go
It's a very simple rig to use just put on your bait, put on a sinker, tie it on, cast it out
You're good to go! So with this and the rigs from that website
You're good to go to the beach. You're good to go to the pier. It's it's a really good uh, it's a really good beginner setup.
