Youtube daily report w Oct 17 2017

Geeky Gaming Hey Geeks, it's Andrea.

Geeks, we are finally working our way down the second half of Horror Month 2017.

Which means you only have a couple weeks more to get the t-shirt.

But, there are still 2 weeks to go after today, so if you have been here with me every day,

we are not done yet.

Today we are going to take another look at some 2-sentence Horror Stories.

I had so much fun with these last time, that I just had to do it again.

Alright Geeks, let's go.

15.

After working a hard day I came home to see my girlfriend cradling our child.

I didn't know which was more frightening, seeing my dead girlfriend and stillborn child,

or knowing that someone broke into my apartment to place them there.

14.

"Goodnight, dear," he whispers, folding his hand over his wife's as he lays in bed.

"What did you say?" she asks, coming out of the bathroom.

13.

I always liked this picture of my great-grandmother.

Why does she seem closer to the camera than before?

12.

I reach my hand out to the mirror in front of me to offer some stability, but instead

of cold glass against my hand, I feel the warm flesh of a palm, and looking up I see

my reflection.

Funny, it doesn't feel like I'm smiling, but I must be.

11.

When I finally grabbed her in the darkness, I swam back to the surface.

It never occurred to me how fast the ice could freeze over.

10.

It sat on my shelf, with thoughtless porcelain eyes and the prettiest pink doll dress I could

find.

Why did she have to be born still?

9.

The longer I wore it the more it grew on me.

She had such pretty skin.

8.

They celebrated the first successful cryogenic freezing.

He had no way of letting them know he was still conscious.

7.

Don't be scared of the monsters, just look for them.

Look to your left, to your right, under your bed, behind your dresser, in your closet but

never look up, she hates being seen.

6.

Growing up with cats and dogs, I got used to the sounds of scratching at my door while

I slept.

Now that I live alone, it is much more unsettling.

5.

It's been watching me for hours now...

Sometimes I catch glimpses of its reflection on the computer screen, but I dare not turn

around...

4.

He came to my door near sunset, and put his cold hand in mine, whispering that he had

seen "it" as he fell to the ground, dead.

We still don't know how he got out of the morgue.

3.

Working the night shift alone tonight.

There is a face in the cellar staring at the security camera.

2.

She asked why I was breathing so heavily.

I wasn't.

1.

My daughter won't stop crying and screaming in the middle of the night.

I visit her grave and ask her to stop, but it doesn't help.

Alright Geeks, that's going to do it for this video.

Thank you so much for hanging out with me today.

Like I said before, the time you have to get the t-shirt is half done, so get on that!

If you are broke like me, invite some friends to the party!

The dolphin diet - Duration: 4:15.

Hi I'm Raquel Domínguez www.operacionbikini.es and I'm here today to talk

the latest fad diet, diet dolphin. Have you heard of the diet dolphin?

Well, I'll tell you about what

and why is not you follow. This diet is based on something that really

Indeed, it is based on 70% of our body is water,

So far so good right? Well then Proponents of this diet claim that

as 70% of our body is water and seawater contains all

minerals our body needs we have to base our diet

that, in seawater. Plus diet not only dolphin

to nourish us based on seawater, we also have to feed the sun, not

sun knew feeds, and one of the arguments they offer is that water

the sea is the mother of waters and source of life.

Take that, there's that! Who recommend this diet say that if

you follow going to improve health, promises improve blood circulation,

forget about the disease and Of course, avoid obesity. Okay, What about

what to do according to them to get all these

Benefits? For just drink half liter of seawater a day. Okay, but is that drinking

Sea water is disgusting, how can you beberte and half a liter of seawater

daily, for at first mixing bottled water and then when

you get used to it and drink it alone directly. Their

prescribers say the best time to drink sea water is 30 minutes

before meals. And this water also It can be used for cooking.

The truth is that I cook with water Sea yes I think a good idea,

because instead of adding salt to meals because this water you're going to get

same results. Also, if you follow the diet dolphin, you

that supplementing with seawater are alkaline foods like fruits,

vegetables and legumes and you have to avoid acidic foods such as

meat, bread or pasta. Until here does not seem that this diet

is so bad right? What is your main mistake? Because that humans not

It is a dolphin, then we can not compare them, basic right? It is true

many people who claim to have improved their health by drinking water

sea, but the truth is that there is no

and type I repeat any evidence attesting to scientific seawater is

good for human health. I do not doubt that many people who

They have drunk water from the sea and follow the Dolphin diet have found better,

since it clear that I believe it, but I when we do not follow any plan

food, eat like crazy, so disorderly and began to have a plan,

although not the best plan in the world and no structure things, always

we will notice an improvement. It's not because is a miraculous diet and because water

Sea cure-all. Like I said there is no scientific evidence supporting

Sea water is good for the human consumption but that there

on severe intestinal problems cause we can not drink water

potable and sea water is not potable. Also the high amounts of salt

It has seawater we can finish dehydrating and causing us one

electrocytes imbalance. Another problem that I see

this diet is that to remove you the acidic foods such as meats, may

become very restrictive, and if a diet It is very restrictive is unlikely to

you keep it in time. In addition the dangers of these diets

They try to throw dirt all scientific arguments and remember you

if it were not for science our life expectancy

quality of life today would not be the What is it. Science is on our side

science is not our enemy. So if you're looking for is

balanced diet truth, sustained over time and make you

to be healthy I recommend you do not follow the diet

dolphin. I hope my video today is you I liked it, if I liked please share it

and remember I'm waiting for the next video. Bye bye

An Existential Questionnaire | Philosophy ASMR - Duration: 34:07.

[You see an odd fellow sitting before you]

[He is patiently waiting for his associate to arrive]

[He maintains awkward eye contact with you]

Hello.

How are you?

We hope you are doing well.

My associate and I would like to ask you

a series of existential questions.

If that's alright with you?

Great!

Please make yourself comfortable

if you have not already done so.

And we'll get started.

Who are you?

And we don't mean

your name,

your lineage, where you're from.

But who are you when you peel the layers off,

and you take away the makeup, the clothes,

the material possessions, the achievements.

Who are you, underneath it all?

And you can answer your best guess.

[Questioner writes down your answer]

[Questioner's associate continues to maintain awkward eye contact with you]

Next question:

Why are you here?

And we don't mean why are you here watching this video.

But, what is your purpose?

Do you have one?

[More pencil scribbling ensues]

[You begin to wonder if the Questioner's associate has seen things]

Speaking of purpose,

does the porpoise have a purpose?

Does the tortoise have a purpose?

Is the purpose of a porpoise

the same as the purpose of a tortoise?

Or do the tortoise and the porpoise

share a different purpose?

Next question:

Is Cthulhu truly benevolent,

or is he in cahoots with the Professor?

Next question:

What is the meaning of life?

And please, try to refrain

from responding with the number 42

or with lyrics from the song

from the Monty Python film of the same name.

What is the meaning of life?

Or

is there one?

Or is it up to you,

to give meaning to life,

to make life meaningful?

Next question:

Are we truly free?

Are you truly free?

[This space intentionally left blank]

Next question:

Is it possible for humans to live

without condiments, such as ketchup and mustard?

Join the Coalition to End Mayo & Mayonnaise Today!

Next question:

What is death?

What happens when we die?

Is there an afterlife?

Or is it merely a total cessation of consciousness and biological functions?

Next question:

Is there a god?

Is it one of the gods that we know

based on the current religions that exist?

Is there a god that exists beyond what we know,

beyond our human comprehension?

Or is there no god at all?

And everything in existence is just based on

science,

cause & effect,

randomness,

evolution, etc.?

Next question:

Why does Margaret wear a mask?

Is it simply because

she is insecure with her features?

Is she trying to run away from something?

Hide something?

Was there ever a beginning to the universe?

Was there something that happened before the "Big Bang"?

Next question, and this one's probably gonna test

your mind a little bit more than the others:

Out of all your toes, which is your favorite?

Was it merely escaping from its cage? From a predator?

Or was it

looking for something more?

I like that answer.

That's probably one of the most unique answers

that my associate and I have heard.

Next question:

Are we alive

or is this a

simulation?

Is the pain that you feel

merely something that you have been programmed to feel,

but it's not real?

Is death merely just the end of your program?

What are you thinking right now?

Next question:

Why is the Repairman so fixated with making repairs?

Is it just his job?

Or is he forever trying to repair something that he knows he will never be able to fix?

Next question:

Are you really in control of your own thoughts, words, and actions?

Or is your brain merely automatically responding to all of the various stimuli that it receives?

Are you making truly conscious decisions?

Are you in control of that?

Or are your decisions based on external forces,

and the inherent automatic system that responds to them,

more or less makes you act out, talk or think in a certain way?

Next question:

Can the humans all across the globe

truly coexist in peace and harmony

without violence and war?

That's a very interesting answer.

Next question:

Can you have your cake and eat it too?

I know, that's a tough question.

Just give it your best.

Next question:

Is there a right or wrong?

Is it just learned behavior?

Do morals truly exist, in our genetics?

Okay.

No we are going to complete the second and final half of the existential questionnaire.

If you need to take a moment to take a break, please do so now.

Okay.

Next question:

Why do some people experience ASMR and others do not?

Is there a correlation between ASMR,

being a Highly Sensitive Person,

and having Empathy?

Is there a purpose to ASMR?

Next question:

Are we alone in the universe?

Or

multiple universes, "universii", if there's more than one?

Are we alone on this planet?

Are there other species on other planets

somewhere in the universe, or,

different planes of "universii", universes?

Again, I like your answer.

I really like all of your answers.

[To associate] Don't you agree?

Yeah, my associate, he's an introvert.

Very camera shy.

So, don't really expect to much interaction.

Although,

[To associate] isn't it true that you want to start your own ASMR,

make your own ASMR video?

He is thinking about his own ASMR video.

But anyway, that's neither here nor there.

Next question:

Should they ever have made a sequel to Rambo?

Next question:

What do people need most in the world?

"Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric." ― Bertrand Russell

Next question:

Why does Charlie Carl enjoy scratching the carpet so much?

Next question:

Are you living, or are you existing?

Next question:

Are the humans headed in the right or wrong direction?

Again, that was an excellent answer.

Next question:

Blah blah blah, bip bip bippity bop.

Never thought of it that way.

Next question:

What is the true, objective reality?

Is it the reality the way humans perceive it?

Is it a construct of our minds?

Is it reality based on how a fly, dog, elephant, or whale perceives it?

Next question:

Does time exist?

What is time?

Is it merely another construct that humans have created

in order to comprehend life

and existence a little better?

Or is there no such thing as time, but merely

a constant state of "now"?

This is the final question:

Do we have a responsibility towards one another?

Or are we just animals,

and it's every person for themselves,

"survival of the fittest",

take advantage of one another,

do everything you need to get ahead, etc.?

[To associate] Do you have any other questions for them?

Well, my associate and I don't have any further questions.

So at this point, the questionnaire is over.

Thank you very much for taking the time to participate.

And we wish you our very best.

Take care.

[Nondescript conspiring whispering ensues]

Richard Dawkins: Why Religion and Evolution Don't Mix Well - Duration: 4:06.

I'm very often asked, "What is the Darwinian survival value of religion?" and I usually

reply, "That may be the wrong question."

You may have to rephrase the question and it may turn out to be not the survival value

of religion but the survival value of something else in the brain, which manifests itself

as religion under the right circumstances.

Now, a good analogy which I've used is the question: Why do moths fly into candle flames?

Now, you could describe that behavior as suicidal behavior in moths, self-immolation behavior

in moths, kamikaze behavior in moths.

That would be one way of phrasing the question, but it's the wrong question.

If you actually look at the way moth and insect eyes generally work, insects use celestial

objects like the sun or the moon or the stars as compasses.

It's important, it's valuable, there is survival value for any animal moving in a

straight line.

If an animal wants to move in a straight line, a very good way to do it is to keep a celestial

object at a fixed angle, and that's easy to do in insects because they have compound

eyes, very unlike our eyes.

Their eye is a whole sort of hemisphere of little tubes looking outwards, and so you

can maintain a fixed angle to something like a star or the moon by keeping the moon in

one ommatidium.

If you do that, because rays from the moon come from optical infinity, they're parallel,

and so if you keep of the moon in one ommatidium you will fly in a straight line.

It might be say 30 degrees; keep the moon at 30 degrees to your right.

And that works, and that's valuable, and that's what many insects do.

However, candles are not at optical infinity, candles are close.

The rays of light from a candle are therefore not parallel, they are radiating out.

If you maintain a fixed angle of say 30 degrees to the rays that are emitted from a candle

you will describe a neat logarithmic spiral into the candle flame and kill yourself.

So these moths are not killing themselves, it's not suicidal behavior; it's a misfiring

of a natural, normal behavior, which before the invention of candles would have worked.

And it still does work the vast majority of time because most of the time in the dark

a moth is not subjected to artificial light.

So ask the right question.

The right question is not, 'What's the survival value of a suicidal behavior in moths?' the

right question is, 'What's the survival value of maintaining a fixed angle to a celestial

object?' and then it's easy to come up with the right answer.

Proximate questions are questions which you answer with the physiology of the animal,

the nervous system of the animal, and the hormones of the animal—things happen in

the animal's nervous system which cause it to do something.

That's the proximal answer.

The ultimate question is, "What's the survival value?

What's the benefit to the animal?

What's the benefit to the animal's genes, in particular, to make it do that?"

An old teacher of mine at Oxford, J.R. Baker, used the example of breeding seasons in birds.

Why do birds breed at certain times of year?

The ultimate answer is: it's beneficial to them to have breeding seasons because they

produce chicks at the right time of year to cash in on the optimal food supply.

That's the ultimate answer.

The proximate answer is that they breed at a certain time of year because day length

is changing and their hormonal system, their nervous system is geared to day length and

that's the proximal reason why they breed at a certain time.

But I keep buying nail polish

hoping that, that would prevent me from biting

I do like the color

So now I use the polish to paint stuff

I used to hide my dandruff by putting glitter on my hair

When a classmate pointed out that I had dandruff

I said, no, it's glitter

In our 6th grade yearbooks

our teachers wrote what they thought we would be when we grew up

They wrote Fashion Designer for me

Michael G. read that and said

ew... no, you're not pretty enough

I had to explain to him that

Fashion Designer is not the same as a model

When I was 13, I would go to chatrooms and say

16/f/pic

and then send them a picture of Jewel

the singer, casually hanging out

And then I would say

Oh yeah, I look a lot like Jewel

Only one person caught me

XxOrificexX13

When I wrote narrative stories as a child

I would make sure they did not represent any ethnicity

that they were white

because then anyone can connect to them

No one can connect with a lonely Chinese girl

who had strict immigrant parents and

a magical chipmunk

My mom used to yell at me for not finishing my bowl of rice

She would always tell me this old Chinese saying

Kids who don't finish their rice bowls

will have husbands and wives with freckles

She would yell at me for being too skinny

And I remember the day she yelled at me for

my butt being too big

I guess I'm too fat now?

Well, I thought to myself

at least my significant other will be freckleless

I fucking hate wearing glasses

Period

I was so embarrassed of my boob size that

I would wear padded bras under my bikini

then I would sneakily squeeze out the water the bras absorbed

I wore my mom's padded bras growing up

so I didn't actually know my bra size until I was in college

where people usually don't wear bras at all

I guess I rather not know my real size than to face the truth

I had open heart surgery when I was little

my parents always blamed themselves for giving me a bad heart

I might not be ever comfortable with my own body

with my own face

with my own voice

But the scar I got from that surgery

is something that I am never ashamed of

because it's apart of me

Trump Has Turned White House Into "Adult Daycare Center" Aides Say - Duration: 3:59.

About a week ago, Republican Senator Bob Corker seemed to get on Donald Trump's bad side by

saying that the White House had essentially become a daycare for Donald Trump himself.

Well, as it turns out Trump's anger towards Corker about this comment was really misplaced,

because interviews have now surfaced with 18 White House staffers, Trump confidants,

and friends that have confirmed that yes, the White House has essentially become an

adult daycare center under Donald Trump.

Now, the aides say that they're having to basically placate Donald Trump just to keep

him calm and happy and prevent him from making some horrible decisions like sending missiles

over to North Korea.

Specifically, these aides according to these interviews have said that they put together

positive news packets for the president filled with praise from top administration officials.

They give these to Donald Trump.

He feels a little bit better about himself.

Sometimes, if they do not have a packet together they'll put on the TV, usually Fox News, so

that the president can watch some positive news coverage of his administration.

They've also said that they've been able to delay certain decisions coming from Donald

Trump until he quotes "calms down."

Here's the thing.

Look.

I have small kids.

I understand what it's like.

I understand exactly what these people are talking about having to do to Donald Trump

because it really is what you have to do with children sometimes.

Sometimes you'll just pop on Disney Junior, let them watch Mickey Mouse for a little bit

so that you can actually get some work done without them asking you a question every five

minutes.

But those are kids.

Those are children, three, four years old.

Donald Trump is a man in his 70s who is president of the United States.

He is acting as if he is a toddler, as if he is a whiny, cranky child that didn't get

a nap today or who's upset because he can't have an after lunch snack.

This is unacceptable behavior from the sitting president of the United States.

The media needs to be paying more attention to these kinds of stories because we cannot

allow this kind of behavior to become normalized in the United States.

We demand the utmost almost perfection from our leaders, especially our president.

Here we have a man who's sitting in the highest office in the land acting like he's again

a toddler.

We would not accept this kind of behavior from children.

Why would we accept it from the president of the United States?

This doesn't make any sense.

We have to demand better.

As a country, we have to get better.

We have to elect better elected officials in this country.

Let's hope that Donald Trump is the worst that it ever gets in this country, because

I don't think this country would be able to survive if we ever, one, had to go through

another four years of Donald Trump, or even worse, elected somebody after him who's not

even as mature as Trump is.

Top 10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Video Games - Duration: 6:05.

TOP 10 MOVIES YOU DIDN'T KNOW WERE BASED ON VIDEO GAMES

Video games are filled with phenomenal ideas.

And sometimes, the grand fantasies they present us with are too good to not want more of.

Enter cinematic adaptations.

Now, we've talked about the top 10 movies based off of video games in a previous list,

but this time around, we're taking a shot at the films you didn't realize were inspired

by or based on video games.

Some are adaptations that borrow certain games' plots, character archetypes, and even style.

Others are blatant rip offs.

So let's see how many of these you guys knew about.

10 Edge of Tomorrow Let's start off this list with some broad

strokes.

Edge of Tomorrow aka Live Die Repeat is a 2014 sci fi action film starring Tom Cruise

and Emily Blunt.

Inspired by the Japanese novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

He was inspired by an online account written by a video game player who was discussing

how restarting the game after the playable character's death allowed for trial and

error improvement, inspiring Sakurazaka to write a story in which the hero was being

played over and over.

9 Inglorious Basterds Many a fan have pointed out the similarities

between Bionic Commando and Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds.

While there is no confirmation as to whether or not the film was inspired by the NES 1988

classic, primarily for the loosely similar plots.

Both feature infiltration behind enemy lines and both result in Hitler's assassination.

8 Clash of the Titans - God of War While is quite obvious that the God of War

series is the culmination of several greek mythological media influences, including the

original Clash of the titans 1981 film, this 2010 remake has many visual elements that

people felt echoed the game franchise.

And, funny enough, the game version of the clash of the titans remake is pretty much

a copycat of God of War.

7 Pirates of the Caribbean - Monkey Island Series

This one is sometimes seen as more of a rip off rather than 'based on' or 'inspired

by' case.Okay, so yes, it's technically based off of the Disney ride.

Sure, cause it totally has a narrative, right?

Well, back in 1990 The Secret of Monkey Island came out, and it's protagonist Guybrush

Threepwood shares many a similarity with Orlando Bloom's Will Turner.

Down to their outfits.

The female lead in Monkey Island is captured by an undead pirate, and guess who else is?

Elizabeth Swann.

There's a lot of other similarities in the franchise that echo the game - voodoo priestess

who lives in a swamp, a town made out of wrecked pirate ships, and so on.

This rip off may be due to writer Ted Elliot who was credited for the Monkey Island film

adaptation that was cancelled in 2000 - Ted went on to write for Pirates, and its safe

to suspect that perhaps Teddy reused parts of his old script.

6 Pokemon Anime Alright, so this is cheating a tad, despite

the fact that there are a bunch of Pokemon movies that have come out of the woodwork

over the past few decades.

Many a fan got on board the Pokemon bandwagon after the anime television show blew up in

1997.

The franchise started with Japan's Pokemon Red and Green games back in 1996, 21 years

ago as of this recording.

Pokemon is the second best selling video game franchise to date, with only the Mario franchise

surpassing it.

5 Snowpiercer - Bioshock Here we have another case of a film that shares

a lot of parallels with a game, despite it not being official that the two have any sort

of relation or that the film was inspired by such.

Snowpiercer tells the story of a dystopian society that lives entirely on a train - earth

was ravaged by a freak natural disaster that has rendered it icy and inhabitable, and there's

a massive class divide on the train/once-luxury liner that humans now call home.

So how is it similar to BioShock?

Well, both are societies cut off from the world outside, both dystopian, both feature

social class divides, and, the cherry on top?

Wilford, who runs the train, is very similar to Andrew Ryan, the man who built Rapture

- both are egotistical megalomaniacs who built their societies on messed up political ideologies.

4 In the Name of the King - Dungeon Siege video games

Uwe Boll who is known for making video game inspired films and adaptations.

Whether or not you think they're any good is another debate in itself.

But apparently critics didn't think this 2007 film was all that great.

The film stars Jason Statham, John Rhys Davies and Ron Perlman, and was inspired the Dungeon

Siege series.

The game, on the other hand, was critically acclaimed, mainly for it's graphics and

fun, accessible gameplay, despite a mediocre plot.

So perhaps the lesson here is to not make a film about a game that's got a weak story

to begin with?

3 Hostel Part 2 - Chiller (1986) Chiller was a gun arcade game released back

in 1986 in which you play as a torturer who mutilates and murders NPCs in different private

dungeons.

So you can see the comparisons to that and Hostel Part 2, which takes place in a private

dungeon.

The game itself got a lot of heat, not just for it's excessive use of violence and gore,

but also it's ideologies - rather than fighting enemies who were capable of defending themselves,

you were tormenting the innocent, strictly for entertainment.

2 Tron We mentioned Tron Legacy on our top 10 movies

based on video games list, so naturally we want to talk about the 1982 film that was

inspired by one of video game history's trailblazers - Pong.

Creator Steven Lisberger initially began development on Tron back in 1976, completely fascinated

with Pong, wanting to make a film inspired by video games.

He said, I quote, "I realized that there were these techniques that waked be very suitable

for brining video games and computer visuals to the screen."

And thus the franchise was born.

1 Wreck it Ralph Based on the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade classic,

the film follows an arcade game villain named Ralph who decides to rebel against his antagonizing

role and become a hero himself.

Ralph notably shares a lot of qualities to DK, who in the real life game, is the villain

to protagonist Jump man, who would later become Mario.

The film started it's development back in the late 1980's with Disney, then being

under the working title High Score.

The film is chalk full of video game references, especially retro ones, including PacMan, Sonic

the Hedgehog, MegaMan and Super Mario Bros.

There we have it friends!

Stossel: Hurricane Reconstruction - Duration: 4:52.

This fall's hurricane devastation is severe.

What should the federal government do?

This massive rebuilding effort

will end up being one of the biggest ever.

We will be seeking resources from the Congress,

to make sure that disaster relief is available.

Politicians from the areas that were hit

always say, give us lots of money!

We do need and will need

federal resources.

Texas congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee wants

about $150 billion -- just for Texas.

So far, Congress has agreed to a portion of that.

Of course, only the federal government can send

in the military and other first responders.

After Irma, 13,000 National Guard soldiers

helped rescue and evacuate people.

This the kind of emergency response we expect from

the federal government.

But rebuilding afterward?

Why is that the federal government's responsibility?

We're going to have to restore a lot of housing.

Our infrastructure has to be restored.

Yes, but why is that a federal job?

Washington has no money of its own.

Anything it spends is taken from states

and local governments,

from people who would probably have been smarter

about spending it locally.

This idea that it's always the federal government's

responsibility is new,

until recently businesses

and charities handled most disaster response.

In 1906, the massive San Francisco earthquake

and fire that followed

destroyed 80 percent of San Francisco.

Despite this vast amount of destruction,

the city was rebuilt quickly.

Population recovered to pre-quake levels

within just three years.

This happened

because rebuilding was done by residents,

charities and businesses, not by a

bureaucratic government.

The disaster even created some opportunities.

All San Francisco's banks were destroyed,

But one banking entrepreneur reopened quickly,

giving loans to all sorts of people who needed help.

His bank grew to be the Bank of America.

Seven years later,

the Midwest was hit with a huge storm

now called the "Great Easter Flood."

Eleven states flooded.

Rising water and tornadoes killed 600 people.

The federal government's did

very little.

But businesses stepped in.

The National Cash Register Company built

300 boats to rescue flood victims,

and then provided meals and shelter

for thousands of people.

The role of businesses after disasters is

seldom appreciated.

Yes, they want profit.

But they also want to help neighbors,

and they want a good reputation.

Giving out water and ice.

After the recent hurricanes,

big box stores like Home Depot and Wal-Mart

were quick to bring in,

fresh water, the batteries and food.

In Puerto Rico, Coca Cola donated $1 million

Pepsi Co, $2 million

Elon Musk offers to

rebuild Puerto Rico's electricity grid.

Researchers found after Hurricane Katrina

business and charities

provided much more help than FEMA did.

A few years ago, Oklahoma took a big hit.

For three days tornadoes tore through the state.

FEMA spent lots of money to

help rebuild but even NBC's anchors

noticed that private charities did a better job

If you're waiting for the government,

you're going to be in for an awful long wait.

The Baptist men,

they're going to get it done tomorrow.

The Baptist men got bulldozers and

cleared tornado debris from

more than a thousand homes.

They brought in Bobcats

and bulldozers and chainsaws

and they just went to work.

Within days,

the Baptists gave them a new home.

It was a mess out here, and

they cleaned it up.

And they've done that for our whole neighborhood.

All the sudden we hear hammering and

Maddie looks back and she grabs my shoulder and I

look up, and they're already on our roof.

You have people driving though

handing you meals.

People I didn't know,

would just walk up and give us money

it's just overwhelming to me

that we were that taken care of.

For two hundred years, when disasters hit

neighbors took care of neighbors.

But now we hear,

"a big storm requires big government."

I say,

the head of the Baptist charity has it right

I don't think there's any kind of disaster

that can take place that the non-profit and

faith-based groups cannot take care of.

Why It Is What Time It Is (The History of Time) - Duration: 6:14.

[MUSIC]

A long time ago on a far-away island, the people kept time by sunrise, sunset, and the

cannon.

Every day at noon, on the hill above town, soldiers would fire the cannon and set life's

pace in the village below.

One day, a boy wanted to know how the soldiers knew when to fire.

The artilleryman told the boy he gets the order from the captain.

When he asked the captain, he said he keeps his watch synchronized to the great clock

in the village.

And when the boy asked the watchmaker how he sets the great clock, the watchmaker said,

"I set it to the noonday cannon!"

The way we tell time isn't so different today.

The cannon and soldiers have been replaced by tiny machines, but somehow we've all

agreed to agree when, exactly, is now.

So who decided what time it is, everywhere?

[MUSIC]

Time, in the physics sense, is very real.

It's what makes "now" different from "then" across the universe.

But "time", in the sense of hours, minutes, seconds and you and I agreeing that you're

a half hour late for lunch?

We made that up.

The rhythms of time are built into our bodies, and most living things instinctively obey

daily or yearly cycles by following the big bright daytime sky thing.

For most of human history, though, sunrise, sunset, and some seasons were all the timekeeping

we needed.

And maybe knowing halfway in between for lunch.

And maybe the tides if you're the Saxons.

The first calendars were made to please the gods, and cows and crops didn't need clocks.

But with civilization came schedules.

People had meetings to make and employees to manage.

Egyptians made the first clocks using shadows and split the day in 12, but that doesn't

work in the dark, so Egyptians marked nighttime hours by watching 12 of their favorite constellations

rise.

Why 12?

Because why not!

Egyptians preferred duodecimal numbers to match the lunar cycles in a year or maybe

the finger joints on each hand, but either way, that's how we got a 24 hour day.

Or they might have stolen it from the Babylonians.

Ancients eventually switched from watching stars to watching water drip, but hours weren't

a fixed length until Greek astronomers decided to make it that way.

Later, Greeks decided to divide up circles into a very random 360 "degrees", and

each degree into 60 smaller "minutes", and each of those into 60 smaller "seconds".

Why?

Greek astronomers "borrowed" a lot of their math from guess who! the Babylonians,

who used a base-60 number system they "borrowed" from the Sumerians.

In the end, hey, I guess clocks are circles, so why not use minutes and seconds for time

too?

What's clear is the 24 60 60 system doesn't make much sense, it's just how it happened.

Water-clocks spread all over the world and became pretty sophisticated, adding bobs and

gears to show the water level and time on a face.

But Europeans were the first to get rid of the water entirely, and just use gears and

gadgets, mostly because European astronomers needed extremely accurate time measurements

to do experiments.

Science molded clocks into intricate counting machines: Just figure out some regular wiggler,

like Galileo's pendulum or Christian Huygens' spring, then count the wiggles.

Congrats!

You're a Time Lord, Harry.

This new precision time created a new kind of human day.

People knew when to go to work and when to meet.

More and more people disconnected their day from nature, and turned it over to machines.

Which sounds kind of familiar.

By the Industrial Revolution, schedules could be regulated to the minute, workers became

slaves to the clock and productivity was measured by what you made in how much time, because

after all: Time is money!

This was a huge shift in human history.

Clocks even revolutionized exploration and fueled the colonial era.

Precise longitude measurements require precise clocks.

Sailors synced fancy new spring-watches to a master clock at Royal Greenwich Observatory

so they'd always know where, and when, they were.

But remember that noonday cannon?

Accurate timepieces don't work if you don't agree on whose clock has the right time.

Cities and companies would often follow their own clocks, choosing 12 noon to be whenever

the sun was overhead in their city.

Trains and telegraphs made this a big problem, so in 1884, President Chester A. Arthur held

a conference where the world decided once and for all what time it is.

England was like "Hey, we've got that awesome clock in Greenwich" so everyone

agreed Greenwich Mean Time would be The Time… adjusted for time zones, which are a whole

other thing.

In the 1900s, scientists started using electronics to keep time.

When quartz crystals are hooked up to special electric circuits, they vibrate 32,768 times

every second.

Tinier wiggles than a spring or pendulum, but same principle.

Most of the gadgets we tell time with today use these little crystally wigglers.

But clocks got so good, the definition of a second was now less precise than the things

measuring seconds.

The lengths of days and years aren't always exactly the same; the tug of the moon, earthquakes,

gravity from other planets all tweak Earth's rotation ever so slightly, and shift the year

by a few seconds every few thousand years.

Doesn't sound like much, but super-precise science machines like GPS and particle colliders

need to accurately measure down to billionths of a second.

The solution was to change the definition of a second.

Unlike springs and pendulums, atoms wiggle pretty much the same everywhere in the universe.

Today, atomic clocks count the wiggling of electrons in atoms, a little over 9 billion

electron oscillations of a cesium atom per second to be exact, and they're so precise

they may drift by just one second in tens of millions of years.

The Babylonians would be very proud.

And probably think we were wizards.

Today, our clocks work so well that we completely take them for granted, yet it took more than

3,000 years, with Egyptian priests and Galileo and even Chester A. Arthur all working together

to synchronize the world.

But they did, and now we can finally rest, knowing that some magic machine knows exactly

what time it is.

And as always, thanks for watching.

Watching!

Stay curious.

Hey!

If you liked this, you should go back for seconds!

Ha!

If you enjoyed the history of time, check out this video about the history of the meter.

Might make even less sense than why there's 60 seconds in a minute.

What If Goku Never Got the Heart Virus - Duration: 4:19.

Goku, one of the strongest fighters in the universe.

He has fought in many important battles that determined the fate of humanity.

One day he was victim of a heart disease and if it wasn't for future Trunks he would

have perished like he did in the future.

But have you ever asked yourself the question what if Goku never got the heart virus?

How would have things played out?

That's what we are gonna talk about today.

Hey how's it going my name is Raf and welcome to Dragon Ball Code.

Today we are gonna talk about what if Goku never got the heart virus?

Let's refresh our selfs with the story.

During the beginning of the android saga, Future Trunks came to the past and warned

Goku about a heart disease that he was going to get.

Gave him the antidote and told him that because of the disease he had died and as a consequence

everyone else was destroyed by the androids.

The future was a disaster and he wanted to change it by changing the past.

Now, as a result of Future Trunks coming to the past, history changed and Goku did not

get the heart virus when he was supposed to.

Instead he got it at the worst possible time.

While he was fighting android 19, he started getting chest pains and he couldn't continue

the fight so he had to be saved by Vegeta and had to withdraw from battle for 10 days.

As result of this, android 17 and 18 are woken up and later it allows cell to transform into

Perfect Cell.

And we all know how that ended.

So that's what happen with that.

But what if Goku didn't get it?

If Goku never got the heart virus this is what I think this is what would have happened.

Since Goku was not gonna die from the virus, trunks would've never came to the past.

And I think that one of two things could've happened at this point.

Frieza was coming anyways.

So either Freiza was gonna find all the Z fighters and destroy them because, Vegeta

was not able to become a Super Saiyan yet and Goku was nowhere to be found.

And then he would've blow up the Earth.

And since Goku wasn't there, that would have left him stranded in space and perhaps

he would've went to King Kai's planet and after learning what happened to everyone he

would've trained for a little bit, use that anger to turn into Super Saiyan 2, look for

Frieza where ever he would be and finish him of.

Or Frieza would have looked for the Z fighters and maybe they hid for as long as they could

until they were found.

Then they would probably stall for a little bit and fight for as long as possible and

since they had to only do this for like around two hours, maybe Goku would have arrived in

time and finish off Frieza and King Cold.

Then after that they wouldn't have known that the androids were coming but the day of the

attack on the city they would've found out, went to the city, same thing would've played

out, but this time when Goku was fighting android 19, since he wasn't going to get the

heart virus, he would've beaten him.

And then as Dr Gero tried to escape, Vegeta could've possibly followed.

Unlike the original timeline, he wouldnt have to stop to take a Senzu Bean after he beat

19 because, this time Goku beat 19.

So the others would've catch up to Vegeta and taken out Dr. Gero in his lab.

There they probably would've seen the other androids were there and destroyed

them before they were activated.

Investing Basics: Technical Analysis - Duration: 4:56.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

The term "technical analysis" might sound a little, well,

technical, but it's actually pretty simple.

Essentially, it's a strategy an investor may

use to examine an investments chart

and attempt to forecast its future performance.

Some investors may use technical analysis

to attempt to identify when to enter or exit a stock position.

When performing technical analysis,

investors can use a variety of techniques and tools

to analyze a chart.

In this video, we'll focus on a few technical analysis

basics including trend, support and resistance, price patterns,

and technical indicators.

Let's start with the first technique, trend.

Trend is the general direction a stock's price is moving.

There are three kinds of trends--

up, which is a series of higher highs and higher lows;

down, which is a series of lower highs and lower lows;

and sideways, which has roughly equal highs and lows.

Some investors determine a stock's trend

by identifying the direction of its highs and lows.

Trend may be important because many investors believe

that a stock will generally continue in the same direction

it's been going.

These investors would anticipate a stock with a strong uptrend

to continue to rise, while one with a strong downtrend

will continue to fall.

Some investors draw lines to attempt to identify the trend.

Investors can also draw lines to connect highs and lows.

These lines are known as support and resistance

levels, the next technique we'll discuss.

Support and resistance are price levels

that the stock has had trouble breaking through.

If a stock breaks through support or resistance,

it could be a signal to enter or exit.

For example, suppose a stock breaks

through resistance, which is the level it repeatedly pulled back

from in the past.

Because it broke through resistance,

an investor may believe that there's

a good chance that the stock will continue to rise.

So broken resistance may be a good time to enter.

On the other hand, if the stock fell past a support area,

it may continue to fall.

This could be considered a good time to exit.

After connecting support and resistance levels,

a stock's price movement may resemble a certain shape.

These shapes are called price patterns

and are another technical analysis technique.

Price patterns can build on support and resistance,

allowing investors to attempt to predict more specific movements

and try to point out even more precise entry and exit signals.

There are many different price patterns.

Some examples include simple shapes like triangles or flags

and more complex patterns like head and shoulders

or triple tops.

Let's look at an example.

This is called an ascending triangle,

and it forms when a stock's highs are hitting resistance

while its lows are steadily rising.

Some investors might interpret the narrowing between the highs

and lows as a signal that the stock's

about to break through resistance.

If it does, the stock's price is expected to rise in value right

after the breakout, but not all investors exclusively

use support and resistance and price patterns.

Drawing lines and finding shapes can be subjective.

Because of this, some investors may use technical indicators.

Technical indicators are graphical representations

of chart data.

Each indicator displays chart data, like price and volume,

in a unique way, giving investors another perspective

of the stock's performance.

Because technical indicators are created

using formulas and data, they may give investors

a more objective way to examine a stock's performance.

A common technical indicator is a moving average line.

This indicator averages the stock's price

over a period of time and plots it

as a line, which can help determine the overall trend.

Moving averages can be calculated

for any period of time, but one of the most common is 50 days.

So what does a moving average tell you about an investment?

Imagine a stock's price crosses above its 50-day moving

average.

This may indicate that the stock is outperforming

its recent history.

This could be an entry signal.

Similarly, if the stock begins to fall and dips

below its moving average, it could be an exit signal.

Moving average lines are only one

of many technical indicators investors may use.

Other common indicators include price envelopes,

bullinger bands, stochastic oscillators,

and the relative strength index.

At this point, we've covered some basics

of technical analysis.

One thing to keep in mind is that technical analysis can

help you identify potential entry and exit signals,

but it offers no guarantee of success.

After all, there is no way to predict the future.

We've only covered the tip of the technical analysis iceberg.

Learning how to use the techniques and tools we've

discussed, as well as the many others out there,

can advance your technical analysis skills.

English at Work - Episode 25: The big cheese - Duration: 5:21.

Hello again.

Things haven't been going well at Tip Top Trading.

There was a fire in the warehouse, caused by my Mr Ingle's

cigarette and now Mr Socrates – the big boss from America - has

turned up unexpectedly.

So honey, you are…?

Anna.

I'm Anna, I work here as a sales executive.

We haven't met before.

We sure ain't.

Looks like I've arrived just in the nick of time.

(Out of breath)…what's going on…..oh, Mr Socrates!

Golly gosh, what an unexpected pleasure.

Unexpected alright.

Looks like this company is in a mess.

Err yes.

It was OK when I popped out for some biscuits….erm, would you

like one?

Biscuits?!

They're cookies man.

Look, now what do I have to do to get a triple-shot, organic, skinny cappuccino round

here?

I'll get you one Mr Socrates.

It's OK honey.

I need you to book me a hotel room.

You...what's your name again…Paul…you can fetch me one.

Right Anna.

Booking a room for Mr Socrates.

This is something you can't get wrong.

Well I've never done it before.

I'm sure you'll be OK.

When you book a room, here's what you could say:

Hello, I'd like to check availability and prices for a room please.

Does the price include breakfast?

Are there any business facilities such as internet and wi-fi?

I'd like to go ahead and make the reservation please.

OK I'll give it a try.

But where shall I look?

Try searching on the internet.

Look for a five-star hotel.

He is a five-star guest after all.

Good luck.

Thanks.

I better get back to the office and get started.

Hi Anna.

Oh hi Tom.

Well done for saving Mr Ingle in that fire.

You were very brave.

It was nothing really.

So…err...what are you doing?

I've got to book a hotel for Mr Socrates.

No!

You know, we must be in trouble.

He never visits.

Really?

So where shall I book him in to?

Well my friend runs a fantastic hotel – it's five star!

It's called the Royal Imperial.

Look, I've got his number.

Give him a call, mention my name.

You're bound to get a special rate.

Thanks Tom.

No problem.

Oh but don't forget, I've heard Mr S only likes a room with a

single bed in it.

He gets spooked out if there's another empty bed.

Oh right.

OK, I might as well give it a try.

Hello.

Royal Imperial Hotel.

Oh, hello.

I'd like to check availability and rates for a room.

When for?

For three nights from tonight.

Your best room please!

All our rooms are the best!

But…yes, we have one.

It's £100 a night.

Right.

I work with Tom…Tom Darcy…his friend runs the hotel.

I wondered if you could offer me a special rate?

Tom Darcy?

No I've never heard of him.

Sorry, it's still £100.

Does the price include breakfast?

Yes.

We offer a full continental breakfast of toast, or bread, oh, and

tea…or coffee….and cereal.

Oh.

And do you have any business facilities?

Well, we've got paper and pens.

I was thinking, internet, wi-fi… shoe-shine?

Yes.

We've got that.

Good.

And most importantly, is this a single room?

We've only got twin rooms.

Twins?

You've only got room for twins?

No.

We could take a bed out and just leave one in, if you want?

Oh that would be perfect.

In that case, I'd like to go ahead and make a

reservation please.

Good.

How would you like to pay?

Well done Anna for booking the hotel but I have a feeling Tom's

recommendation may not be as luxurious as he says.

Let's hear the phrases Anna used when booking a hotel:

Hello, I'd like to check availability and prices for a room please.

Does the price include breakfast?

Are there any business facilities such as internet and wi-fi?

I'd like to go ahead and make the reservation please.

So the room is booked.

I wonder what Mr Socrates will think of it?

He's a particularly fussy man as we'll find out next

time.

Bye!
