seems to be faster to use the mouse here
first few minutes are pretty boring
I try to sing the bard's theme here
get distracted and jump a little late, not too bad though
Eyala's new text is "you got here pretty quick, lil bard."
"I knew you were extra special!"
I try to do a small glitch here a few times..
where you walk to the edge of the flower and back on,
and it makes the flower shoot up a little
Getting that skip first try AND landing on the next step is a new record for me
I used to be so bad at this bird
for some reason now I'm worse with this bird
looking back on it now, I did ok with the bird this time..
Stop singing and then jump off the flower to make it retract faster
this jump is way harder than it looks
when I got it first try my heart was racing
You can start singing the bird song after the little traingle in the floor
spamming notes here makes it so you can get to the castle during the cutscene
overseer song background musiiic
there's a skip here, that for whatever reason spawns you right next to the dream fairy when you enter the room
I've been unlucky with it lately. Maybe it was patched out?
don't ask why I sang a note there
shorthopping up the stairs.. I think these stairs are a personal best for me actually, haha
that looks like a time loss, but actually I don't think it was
Not sure this is relevant, but the dream fairy is a lot less vicious when you're lagging.
playing at high resolution on a cruddy computer for things that'd save time is kinda cheating though. So I'm not doing that!
You might've noticed I stopped just before the dream fairy started talking.. that was on purpose.
The dream fairy goes to a position based on where the bard is. If you turn around just before the cutscene starts, the dream fairy will end up on the other side of you.
You don't want the dream fairy hovering over the exit.. otherwise you'll have to walk farther and risk talking to her again.
I don't think going to either side of the bell actually does make it ring faster.. Haven't bothered to test it. Doesn't really matter, anyways.
I mean, I'm still gonna run to either side even if it didn't save time.. just because.
oh, I totally forgot I did that!
just adjusted my volume during the cutscene cause it was a little low..
Times like these I kinda wish I had a keyboard input overlay
As you can imagine, there's a lot of text mashing in this run. There's also a lot of pauses between text..
I like to take advantage of these wherever I can. Mashing is hard on the fingers x-x
the part where he appears felt a lot longer for some reason.
fragmented sentences
I'll be honest, I relate to you there, eyala
spamming buttons during the screen transition..
I didn't expect it to work, it's not reliable enough to count on
Langtree's theme <3
I switch to mouse for these songs
I was a little distracted here, my kitten made a noise and my sister told me she couldn't get up (she was in a match in overwatch..)
I always forget about that textbox (got distracted again too)
You can just skip forward a bit..
When I named the bard vuet in my first speedrun, I didn't think anything of it. Now it's.. kinda my thing.
I mean, for speedruns.
Think this is another personal best for me, I usually forget the press yellow (or press another color on accident)
Mashin down the hill.. she doesn't let you in the cave while she's talking.
I'm not actually sure if you need to mash this text, but whatever
singin the troll's theme
If you're lagging super hard, you can sing during the cutscene and stay near the troll, then finish the encounter fast.
Those strategies are still illegal though, so..
I always forget to press right here
As you can see, the new strategy is spamming a note. I think it might be as fast as the illegal strategy
Also a lot easier to do on PC...
nyoom
troll theme again (I think it's my favorite song I can sing)
Me trying to be stylish...
wait for it...
ASDHBSGHFDINHI
go ahead and skip forward a bit.
Aside from the moon song, (because the act 5 skip wasn't a thing yet) wind theme was actually the last song I memorized. It's a lot more memorable at a high tempo..
Wind scape is probably the easiest out of all the scapes to speedrun
Hardest part of the entire windscape right here
Well, actually, this part's pretty tough too..
I did well, though.
I always jump into this stream out of habit
change notes to keep it from blowing me too high
this room wasn't the best.
I think this is the part everyone died the most on. I just used the strategies I use here the first time around..
Except for this part, I definitely died a few times here my first time.
Again with the note switching, though I'm not sure it actually works that well..
Here I'm showing off that the wheel is normal outside the castle
And now it's not normal
Still not sure what the idea behind this wheel was, though. Maybe it's just for the organ? Or the queen of winds theme?
It doesn't seem like he has a set pattern, but he does.
The way he fakes you out is just different every time (I think)
Love these cutscenes where my hands can get a break
can go ahead and skip forward a bunch, just text mashing and walking
troll theme agaaaain
I have this theme memorized (I think I got a bit distracted by family again though)
ugh, you can tell I'm distracted especially right here. I'm normally really fast with this part..
Funny thing: you can tell the trolls apart by their eyebrows.
I stop singing because miriam's on this screen
New dialogue is "way to go running off without me. How did you know the overseer song?!"
"on second thought, I don't care. The important thing is, the overseer helped you this time, right?"
skip forward a bit
The only noteworthy part (in a speedrun) of this first part is the pirate's song.
I take the time in the coffee cutscene to rest my fingers.. booring, right?
oh! but! I think this is the first character where I have to be careful spamming Q!
I mash with all three buttons..
I swear the pirates didn't always completely block your vision here
skip forward to when we get off the boat
Sorry this isn't exactly off the boat, but this is one of those places where you can't just hold a button to move right..
Even this part is pretty boring
You can skip to after I talk to calliope
I dunno if this is that noteworthy, but it just seems like a speedy tactic.
and now you can skip to when I get back on the boat! Yaay x-x
pirate song best song
I think it was at this point that I was really starting to regret not doing this in my room..
My sister was just making all sorts of noise next to me
mostly with a cup and the ice inside. She chews ice.. with her mouth open.
I've tried to go faster with this song before, but it's just too long to risk going fast.
Chaos scape was definitely when my sister started going ham on her ice
I don't think you can go any faster off this platform, but, now that I think of it, I don't think I've ever actually tried jumping.
now this was terrible
bleegghh
BLARRGGH
This room is pretty self explanatory, but
This jump here isn't actually a jump. I think it is faster to just let the blob bounce you
or at the very least, it's smoother.
Always forget how to deal with this blob
HOOO that was scary
bleeegggh
The second blob in this room is the reason the first speedrunner of this game thought these blobs were rng
It's actually just a rotating blob.. dieing offsets what position it's in when you get there because it takes longer for you to get there
Always thought it was kinda neat how the chaos scape.. isn't actually that chaotic
and how the fairy seemed to know so much about the natural order of things..
at least, compared to the other fairies.
This was pretty bad
I remember thinking this speedrun of chaos scape was absolutely terrible
I was not looking forward to rewatching it..
but it actually wasn't so bad
just realized I haven't commented on how the wheel works outside of the castle
Oh, well. It's a bit too much to talk about in a speedrun, anyways.
The notes inside the castle are just switched with the ones next to them
You can skip forward to when bard dies
new personal best on skipping that first "hey"
New dialogue is "how did you even get here? You knew the overseer song?"
I wait an especially long time to get this last ring, because I'm lazy and only use two keys to activate it
Apparently, it's the bare minimum. If you press the two keys too early, it won't activate right.
HAhoHAHUAhahohaHA
Jumping and dashing makes dashing easier to time
generally, you don't want to get hit here because you lose the smallest amount of time... but its small so meh
There's a glitch here where if you fall off and press a direction at a certain time for a certain amount of time,,
all your health gets drained and you can do the eyala skip without having to rely on the bats (which are somewhat randomly placed)
That was pretty quick, though
Does clearing your save data reset your achievements? It actually took me until I practiced for a second speedrun to get the achievement for murdering the owl.
I don't charge fully here because it actually launches you too far if you do that.
Also you have to actually land on the platform, if you hit the bulb to early the platform goes right through you.
you also have to start charging again right after it launches you..
and then dash through before the stompies (yes, that's what they're called) get you
this whole room is pretty crazy
You have to make sure you don't hit the spinnies with your sword, or you lose the charge (you need it fully charged)
I think the projectiles bouncing off your sword also drains the charge, so the maneuver I pulled there was pretty epic, albeit unintentional
Yeah, that was a good spinny room..
I have to not dash here, or else you spawn somewhere else for the boss battle and either have to delay your charging
or weakly hit the queen and make her fly away (losing some time)
Bendy pencil
I think you can skip a tiny bit of the cutscene if you make audrey lift her sword faster (not sure though)
It's kinda funny how she resists your inputs because she's trying to be dramatic
This fight is so much fun, but it lasts probably less than a minute
You gotta rely on your lightning for speedy strats
hitting her every opportunity you get..
skip forward a bit
*sings "I wanna be the hero" after realizing he's not the hero*
Yeah, uh, for whatever reason, you get stuck next to this guy for a few seconds.. basically every time.
I accidentally found out you could work on shutting down the factory before talking to miriam..
everyone in the discord was so sad
I think it's definitely faster to talk to her first, though.
Restin ma fingersss
I always get super worried that this gets patched out whenever I purposefully fail it.
I can't decide if this was a good or bad chismest. I mean, I think I've definitely had worse
I usually hesitate a lot more when I'm passing the time
I forgot to pass time at the bench before the diner
One thing I used to have trouble with was talking to elara again, because I spam Q along with X and E when skipping text..
I think I cut it pretty close here, which is a good thing in a speedrun. Still freaks me out a little.
The platforming here made me so ANXIOUS
I got so worried that I went too far
glad I went with my gut and the fragment of my memory that told me she stays around the factory till like 6 pm
Notice how you can't throw away the letter by singing..
oof
That was actually a pretty good order overseer song.. I don't have that one memorized, so, yknow.
I used to talk to winston again literally every time I went through here, and I never confirmed it until now.
You can't hear, but I'm still singing off screen here..
Doesn't matter how fast you get up these stairs, the song has to progress..
I like how you can still move while he's talking. If you weren't already there, you can jump blindly up the stairs..
Obviously I prefer not to do that
I know sometimes I'd forget to just sing to activate the cutscene, and talk to miriam instead..
You can skip this part if you want.. this was my favorite overseer song though.
I'm glad I didn't forget this text box
Whenever I'd practice orderscape, scene select puts me past this text..
I shouldn't have jumped there, it's a lot smoother if you just fall off
wow
that was a pretty good block run
you can probably one cycle this saw
bleeeh
bleeeeEEH
pfff
three in a row!.. is that a new record for me? I guess, compared to my last run..
safe strats
Why do I always forget this clock
ugh
Worst part about orderscape is you're not even limited by the cycles
you CONTROL them
I guess, from a different perspective, that could be the best thing about orderscape..
I really need to practice this skip more. I still haven't found out if it's possible to make the jump from where I am here.
Actually, now that I think about it..
Maybe bard needing to be the one to control time/order symbolizes queen order's corruption?
I just accept the ride here, I usually miss the jump if I try to go too fast
There's a weird physics thing where if you jump while holding right into a cog it turns you around for a second..
uurrgh
that looked scarier than it was
You always have to wait for these cycles
I thought I was dead there, and you could tell.
(actually that might be a new speedrun strategy..)
blegh
BLEEGH
two key strat ftw
I think it's actually impossible to die to the saw while time is stopped
mmmmph
aAAAaaaaAAA
AaoooAA
castle cutscene skip
Why does this text progress so slowly and why am I only noticing now
nevermind it's cause they're short boxes
nothing and text mashing ahead
...You can skip ahead now.
Blind cycle successful
Why am I NOT pressing down for the off notes? I used to love that.
moar text and nothing
I actually have to be kinda careful not to talk to miriam here..
like, not THAT careful, cause bard has to walk to a certain position anyways.. still.
me practicing the moon song
oh, hey.. he moved a little past the door. I didn't notice that while I was playing.
I need to test this fight more. I'm not sure if what I do saves time or not.
oh, I moved.. I.. don't know what that means for my strategies.
You're prevented from singing here
First time I "realized" this I thought it was my numlock, haha
Don't think it matters where you are when the notes come out.
I mean, if you chase them, it doesn't make any difference..
Kinda weird how she kinda sucks you towards her
this fight is longer than I remember
oh, it just ended!
I don't know if you spent all night fighting her or if she has time distortion
the all night theory would explain why bard just collapses after hala delivers her message
This is one of the places where you have to be careful pressing Q, but I've never actually accidentally gone back in the inn..
watch as I try and fail to remember how this song goes on numpad
If you ever wonder what the hell I'm singing when I don't tell you, it's improv.
other than that I only sing songs from the game..
ah, there it is.
troll song cause bard mentioned them
"I was so scared!" you didn't even let it get near you, vuet..
I try to remember this jingle so I can use it for the red panda
randomly generated jingles.. it's a cool concept!
lumber town is pretty chill, I'm not gonna caption it
This was a terrible rulle
I totally forgot to keep the butterfly with me
blurrgh
I remember when the first speedrunner thought a butterfly was missing while the hero was around
since I've already referred to him twice, I'm just going to call him "Myke" from here on out..
Though as I'm writing this, I may have only written that to assure you that I do remember his name.
sometimes when I'm speedrunning I just like to listen to all the sounds the characters make and remove the context
It's possible to skip this conversation.. you just need to drop down a little later than that.
A little bit of rulle's theme, for style
bleh
There's another way to collect all the butterflies
Instead of collecting them before audrey, you go to the balcony of the inn after talking to audrey..
The strategy I used is more reliable (though the other one may still be faster)
don't know why I was singing there. Can't really afford to be bored while mashing through text. Still a small time loss..
oh, it was the jingle again.
this was slow
UGHTEUHRHGRN
I forget I can't just sing while walking or the butterflies will keep me from going to a different screen
I sing you.. the song of corruption.
Almost talked to her again there
Nice.
time to make the old lady sad
"You gonna ask me to steal it or what"
"no?"
"ok"
QQ
I was right the first time.. but then
"no, go to the potion shop"
"wait, WHAT AM I DOING?!"
Glad I remembered to talk to miriam instead of entering the lodge, at least!
(Well, I don't usually have trouble remembering that, but..)
You can go ahead and skip to the ghost message
time to spazz
I was going for style points by following the tempo of the original song
but then..
..I messed up
Not a big deal
I at least get to showcase that you don't need to follow the tempo of the original song
The "silence" here made me really anxious to see if it worked
It's a pretty big skip..
I feel like the time you spend on this platform varies.. probably not, but.
I do a bunch of actions to try and speed things up, though I still have no idea what exactly would trigger it
Also this moonscape was terrible. I died in ways I've never died in before.
BLEEGGH
You can see my frustration
NGYUUUHH
Myke said he usually could never make these jumps
Sorry to bash myke, but I think they're really easy..
oh, hey! it turns out I did end up using his name again.
I don't even know why you would want to make this jump
you have to wait anyway!
again, sorry for the shade, myke x-x
I wait here because I'd have to wait for the other cycle anyways.
geez, with all these cycles, you'd think THIS is the real orderscape!
I want to get better at turning around quickly here
skimming across the surface..
die
ugh
you can stand on the opening there, it saves a little time
oof
You know what I JUST realized
I danced when that monster saw me because I knew I was dead..
and the dance button on pc is F.. i pressed F to pay respects.
I'm sorry that was terrible
This doesn't save any time (it clearly wasn't planned)
but, yeah, you're not dead if you do that.
little glitchy there..
It probably would actually save time if you got an especially bad rotation
Though I don't actually know what an "especially bad" rotation would be..
I'm lazy and don't excessively test these things.
hoo, I almost missed that jump.
You actually have to jump into the bubble, not just sing at it.
I learned that the hard way.
You can probably one cycle this guy if you're fast enough. I think I did it once, but I'm not sure.
that was a good fall.
yes. A good fall. I'm good at FALLING.
seriously though, sometimes that's harder than it looks..
tiny little skip here, closer to the key before the cutscene
I'm glad he waits a little..
whoops
You can't tell, but I'm dancing here.
..not for any good reason
Miriam's new dialogue is "Gah! I've been looking all over for you! We should have planned better before we came here. I didn't even expect the song to work..."
"And I got lost trying to find the stupid castle, and.."
Audrey's new dialogue is "How did you even GET here so fast?" and that's it
oh, if it wasn't obvious, this is a big cutscene.. you can skip forward a bit haha
I really need to have my notes up when I do these speedruns..
blegh
how
I've still never done the skip that lets you go all the way down the hill from here..
The queen's new dialogue is "You have no place here, hooligan!" and the king tells you to "get out of here!"
"<name>! Get over here.."
"Look, <name>. There's no point talking to those idiots. They'll never see the harm they cause."
"They'll never admit they're wrong... and it's not our problem, OK?"
"Hey!! Do you two need help?"
"We can take you! This place is dangerous!"
"And we can't just leave civilians here... So, just tell us where you wanna go!"
After "I got you pretty far though!" instead of talking about vivian, she just says "Um! Good luck!!"
this is a pretty good improv.. how did I come up with this
I feel like it was inspired by things I can't actually put my finger on
The strings on the bubbles are kinda hard to tell sometimes
I was so glad I made that jump
forgot where I was going for a second
As a side note, you don't actually need to hold any of these.. notes.
wooOOO
HOOooo
it's possible to skip the second ledge here with just one bird
I ended up getting lucky with the other bird..
static screen transition looks weird (because it's not supposed to exist obviously but still)
Now this was terrible
blleeeEEEEEEHH
spamming a note is the way to go apparently
what am I doING
I got lucky there
I should've tried to see how far I could go..
HAHA OMG I swear I didn't do that on purpose
Yeah, jumping a split second too late results in the longer gravity defying animation
That ledge is such a close jump. Why.
pantomime can't be skipped
well, actually, it's just mime.. pantomime is for story telling
you can tell I'm still trying to skip it
*shorthop intensifies*
singing during the cutscene
suddenly whisper singing
If it's only bard who sees notes as direction, why do the bugs.. wait, nevermind. He has hand signals.
oh, by the way! there's a skip here you can do with only three bug batches.
It's unreliable for me on PC.. which is why I'm not doing it.
When I try, I usually get soft locked out of bounds.
The face he makes at them though
You can skip the second crystal here, but I failed
oof
that was close
I forgot to feed him there
he follows you faster when he's full
bleh
stoP
ghh
I was totally gonna fall off the edge if I jumped there
I have to be careful not to crouch out of boredom here
That was a good skip. I didn't realize till now that I still had the food when I was ontop of him..
I think it's funny that bard actually refuses to go any closer to the wolfie if you try. Makes me wonder what would've happened if he didn't..
you have to spam notes here, they don't register if you hold them during the cutscenes
Also the bubble twangs whenever you try to move while inside it
*misplaced sound of bird breaking free*
I want this voiceclip for.. reasons
You can skip forward
I mostly just stare at random things as I'm mashing through all this text
like audrey's scarf.. I dunno.
You can leave her behind, but on PC, the bugs will prevent you from progressing any further without her..
These bugs, specifically
I don't have anything to say for awhile
oh, hey! Audrey actually made the jump this time.
good for herrrr
Small time save, jumping just before she starts talking
"NO!!!!!!!!"
zoned out for a sec
This fight was good, but boring
I did really bad here
I'm, like, half trying to sing something? but not really?
For a final stretch, this is pretty straightforward
Directions confusing
pff
I think my best time on the dream king fight was 3 minutes..
Vuet stays surprised
I don't know if attacking her with these stars saves or costs time.. not really willing to find out, tbh
I was trying to synchronize with miriam, since I know she has a habit of blasting audrey out of dream king's attacks..
Nice invincibility frames, audrey..
Doesn't really matter when you get hit by the vines, as long as there aren't any other attacks to direct..
Wasn't watching miriam
I was surprised that still hit
oW. I tried to run away, but she GOT me.
gah
just as he was about to attack, too
pff
