Hey ya'll so yes I am in my kitchen back
home because college is over for like
you know until next semester so I'm back
home and I'm going to be making cottage
cheese pancakes because I just wanna
eat them so that's what's going to
happen while I am talking. So what I
wanted to talk today about is this idea
that all emotions are valid and there's
no such thing as "good" emotions or "bad"
emotions the reason I say that is
because it's so easy to get into this
mindset of like you know I shouldn't be
feeling this or I should be feeling like
this when this happened or why am I not
feeling this you know and it's kind of
just like you get in your head and
whatever you actually are feeling it
becomes "wrong" or "bad" I think it really
depends on how you're raised and where
you grow up and stuff but I find that a
lot of times we get into these ideas
that certain emotions are bad and I
shouldn't be sad or I shouldn't be angry
or whatever and you let you start to
bottle it up or start to kind of mask it
with a different emotion and when you
start to do that you start to just kind
of implode and things just really
continue to bubble up until it's finally
like some big explosion of what is
actually going on inside and this makes
me think of the movie Inside Out and I
just really love the way they portrayed
all the emotions and stuff and how it
kind of at the end you really realize
that it's important to have sadness and
all these things and to really feel it
and not kind of just push away stuff
that you think is bad and this really
hit me a couple days ago when my
roommate had already left and it was you
know it was night and all my stuff is
down and I'm packing
and it's just very empty and I was
feeling that sadness and that sort of
discomfort in it you know and just not
really wanting to feel that and I could
have easily just gone and watched a
video or something that would distract
myself from it and sometimes that's good
sometimes you need to distract yourself
from you know these intense emotions but
you shouldn't always be distracting
yourself and I just started writing in
my notebook and I was like okay I'm not
going to go watch some stupid video or
something that's going to distract me
from this because I really think I need
to confront this feeling and just really
sit in it and sit in the discomfort and
not be afraid of it and as I was sitting
in that emotion and you know writing and
things like that a lot of things came to
surface and I realized how much stronger
I am than I thought I was and I just I'm
going to read a little bit of what I was
writing in the notebook as I was feeling
it. "it's so easy to distract yourself
from what's really going on and it's so
easy to not feel and just go go go and
never realize maybe what you're running
so fast towards is the wrong way
maybe you're sprinting towards
everything you thought you were running
from" and allowing myself to sort of feel
those emotions and not you know just
brush them off is what really allowed me
to even realize that I wasn't feeling
okay you know I-it's so easy to just not
even realize that you might not be okay
until you kind of find yourself sitting
alone or sitting inside silence or
whatever you know and really just
listening to yourself and your thoughts
and and what's really happening inside
of you. It's not great to feel sad or
whatever you know, but that doesn't
mean that it doesn't have any less value or validity
to feeling these "bad" emotions you know?
there is purpose to having all the
emotions that we have, there is a
purpose to feeling anger, sadness
depression like whatever like you know
what are the reasons you think
you're feeling that way and um
is there a reason or cause or what is your body trying to tell you
you wouldn't
just go up to someone that had
just had something terrible happen to them or
to someone they know and be like
"wow why are you feeling this way or
why are you so sad about this" or
whatever like you wouldn't do that so why do we
turn around and then
say that to ourselves you know
I just think it's so interesting to think about the fact
what would you say to another
person that was in your shoes you know
would you tell them that: wow they suck,
they look gross, they whatever you know but then
why do we do that to ourselves, thinking
of yourself in a different
light *stutters* as a person as someone that has
value it really changes the way you treat yourself. And
I'm not saying that this is easy or
any of this sortof
not judging, not doing these things
just allowing yourself to feel the discomfort
and not distracting yourself or you know
tearing yourself down, those things aren't easy
and I still am *sighs* struggling
with it and I just think it's
important to kindof start to think
about it and start to be more aware of whenever you
are in a negative thought cycle
or anything like that it all first starts
with awareness you know
admitting you have a problem or whatever that sort of thing
it really does, it really does start with awareness
with every aspect of your life
*eats pancake* Thank you!
Thank you!
wow they suck they look gross they
whatever you know but then why do we do
that to ourselves thinking of yourself
in a different light of as a you know as
a person as someone that has a value
really changes the way you treat
yourself and I'm not saying any of this
is easy or any of this sort of not
judging not doing these things just
allowing yourself to feel the discomfort
and not distracting yourself or you know
tearing yourself down those things are
easy and I
I'm struggling with it and I just think
it's important to kind of start to think
about it and start to be more aware of
whenever you are in a negative thought

starts with awareness you know admitting
