National Photo Month/International Museum Day | VEDIM - Duration: 6:32.

Hello, I'm Rogan and welcome to day 18. I know there was no video yesterday, but that's because I was sick.

I didn't feel like doing anything for that day, so I'm doing it today. Kind of two days in one.

Yesterday was really technically a free day, so I could do whatever I wanted.

But I had decided to use that day to recognize that this is National Photo Month, for all of May.

This month was recognized by Congress in 1987.

The American Photography Association is one (of the organizations) who has continued to recognize this since then.

But other than that, there's not much information about it.

It's really more of a photography thing, not official except by Congress' recognition.

So instead, I will give you a little bit of history about what?

The first photograph, or more specifically, earliest known surviving photograph,

that was taken by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826, 1827.

The photo was of the view from his house in France, the upstairs window view.

I will link that site, I'm not going to give you all the information about it.

But the site has some information about who he is, how the first photo was created, what the story is behind that picture, and so on.

I learned about this while I was majoring in Photography.

I had to take a class that was called "History & Aesthetics of Photography."

That was a really interesting class yes, but [leans in] the teacher was a little boring.

The class itself was fascinating, a lot of history about photography, how it took off, all of that. So check out that link below.

And… Also, another thing that happened yesterday was the 115 year anniversary of the discovery of the Antikythera mechanism.

It's a machine that was from the time of the Greeks. Their "(analogue) computer," their equivalent to a computer back then.

This machine was used to predict the stars and where they would be in the sky, eclipses, calendar dates,

plus the four-year cycle of athletic games (similar to the Olympics, but not the actual Olympics).

I think it's really fascinating that a machine was discovered 115 years ago,

but we didn't really figure out what the purpose of it was until pretty recently.

There's a lot of information about how/what of the history, how they found it, etc. It's really fascinating!

Moving on, today, specifically today the 18th is International Museum Day.

This is celebrated annually on May 18th, and is coordinated by the International Council of Museums.

[heavy sarcasm] Creative name! It focuses on a different theme every year.

This next part has a lot of numbers, so I'll be reading from the screen.

This was started in 1977, and International Museum Day has been gaining more attention.

In 2009, International Museum Day had 20,000 museums hosting events in more than 90 countries.

In 2010, 98 countries participated, and 100 in 2011. And 30,000 in 129 countries in 2012.

In 2011, the official International Museum Day poster was translated into 37 languages.

Since 2012, the number has increased to 38. That's a lot of languages, countries, and museums!

That's pretty cool. I think museums are fantastic places, any kind of museum is fantastic, because they're places of learning.

And depending on where, you can get in for free or pay not that much for the experience you get.

I think they're just great. I really, really, REALLY want to go to a museum that will be opening this June in Iceland.

It's all about volcanoes, lava, and all of that stuff. (Earthquakes too.) I really want to go there!

2017's theme is: Museums and contested history: saying the unspeakable in museums.

This theme focuses on the role of museums that, by working to benefit society,

become hubs for promoting peaceful relationships between people.

It also highlights how the acceptance of a contested history is the first step in envisioning a shared future under the banner of reconciliation.

I will link it below of course, I almost never give you the whole thing, so…links. Plenty of links today.

I also might do a blog post for this, I'm not sure yet but…

We're in impeachment territory: David Gergen, former presidential adviser, on Comey's Trump memo

"After watching the Clinton impeachment, I thought I would never see another one," CNN political analyst David Gergen said Tuesday night shortly after the Times story was published. "But I think we're in impeachment territory.

 " (There were several efforts by House Democrats to impeach President George W. Bush for various alleged offenses, most having to do with the invasion of Iraq.

None of the efforts succeeded.) Gergen — a former aide to four presidents, including Clinton and Richard Nixon — said it appears Trump was obstructing justice, a charge that led to impeachment proceedings against Nixon and Clinton.

"It looks like [Trump] was trying to impede the investigation," Gergen said. "He was using his power to do that, and when James Comey didn't go along with him … he fired him.".

The White House has denied Trump made such a request, saying the Times did not give "a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr Comey.

" But several other media outlets — including CNN, Politico and the Washington Post — confirmed the details of the meeting and the existence of Comey's memo — and others.

"There are other memos about his meetings too," a friend of Comey's told Politico. "He wrote down every word Trump said to him as soon as he could.". "This is of enormous consequence for his presidency," Gergen added.

"I think if you look at the three bombshells that we have had — the Comey firing last week; then the sharing of this highly classified conversation with the Russians, of all people, and now Trump asking Comey to drop the case — we have a presidency that's starting to fall apart.".

Earlier Tuesday, CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, whether the nation is "getting closer and closer to the possibility of yet another impeachment process.". "Reluctantly, Wolf, I have to say yes," King said.

Blitzer posed the same question to Rep. "I think we're going to have to look into a little bit further," Cummings, a Democrat from Maryland, replied. "But I would think so.".

Appearing on CNN late Tuesday, Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., said history points to Trump's possible impeachment. "Obstruction of justice in the case of Nixon, in the case of Clinton in the late 90s, has been considered an impeachable offense," Curbelo said.

The word impeachment came up on MSNBC too. "Is it an impeachable offense if the president, in fact, obstructed justice?" host Chris Hayes asked Sen.

"I hope you'll forgive me if I duck that question," Durbin replied. "I have said, and many Democrats have said, we're not going to get into that kind of speculation.".

Durbin said the Comey memo report highlights the need for a special prosecutor to oversee the investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia, as well as the need to delay the appointment of a new FBI director "until we have time to reflect on this and make sure the next person is clearly one who will be beholden to the law and to the Constitution and not in any way subservient to the president.

"I think we've seen this movie before," McCain said. "I think it's reaching a point where it's of Watergate size and scale.". Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.

On Fox News' "The Five," talk of Trump's impeachment was discussed — not as a possibility, but as a ploy by Democrats to undermine the president.

"It might be politically unwise and painful to go through," Fox's Dana Perino said. "I think that the Democrats' leap to impeach after hearing anonymous sources is a little bit of a stretch.".

On Wednesday morning, Fox News host Bill Hemmer said, "Democrats — and well, some journalists — are getting on the scene about the big 'I' word before getting that memo and, frankly, getting facts.

Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., told The Hill newspaper on Wednesday that if the reports about Trump's pressure on Comey are true, it would be grounds for impeachment. "But everybody gets a fair trial in this country," Amash added.
