Youtube daily report w Sep 11 2017

A martial society emphasizing strict discipline,

public service and self-sacrifice, the Turian Hierarchy has for over a thousand years been

the foremost military power in the Milky Way Galaxy.

As the third race to join the Citadel Council, it has had a profound influence on galactic

affairs, both in its contributions to the Citadel Fleet and in its willingness to actively

counter any perceived threat to galactic stability.

It is often said that "if you want to win a battle, bring a Korgan, but if you want

to win a war, you need the Turians."

Turian civilization first arose over fifteen thousand years ago on their homeworld of Palaven.

The planet's weak magnetic field did little to prevent solar radiation from battering

the surface and the Turians evolved with a unique metallic carapace as a natural defense.

Turian biology possesses many similarities to the ancient carnivorous dinosaurs or crocodiles

found on Earth and it's likely this predatory ancestry played a pivotal role in the development

of their society and culture.

Above all, Turians are noted for their dedication to public service.

This has lead to the development of a highly regimented and organized society in which

the needs of the group are almost always placed above those of the individual.

Every citizen from age 15 to 30 undergoes a period of military service which forms the

center of the Turian state.

Serving not only as the armed forces, the military also acts as an all-encompassing

public works organization, responsible for everything from civil policing, firefighting,

construction and transportation.

The Turian Government is a hierarchical meritocracy composed of 27 distinct tiers of citizenship.

Higher ranked citizens are expected to lead and protect subordinates while those of a

lower rank obey and support superiors.

Turians are wary of unchecked ambition and settling into a role and rank is not considered

stagnation but rather an acknowledgement of one's own limitations.

Should a Turian be demoted, the stigma associated with it lies not on the individual, but on

those who promoted them before they were ready for the additional responsibility.

Turian citizenship confers broad freedoms with almost nothing forbidden so long as it

does not interfere with a citizen's duties.

While this system has great potential for misuse, it is tempered by a code of personal

honor and responsibility that Turians learn during childhood.

Turians are taught to own their decisions, good or ill with lying about one's actions

considered one of the most serious errors of judgement.

This sense of personal accountability is so ingrained in the Turian people that even criminals,

when directly questioned will often confess to the most serious of crimes.

Judicial proceedings follow the format of "interventions" where peers and colleagues

express their concern and try to convince the offender to change.

Should this process fail, Turians have no concern over sentencing unrepentant or dangerous

criminals to a life sentence of hard labor.

Somewhat conversely, Turian religion lacks an emphasis on rigid rituals or social order

often found in the beliefs of other species, instead, Turians believe that groups and communities

have spirits that transcend the individual.

A city's spirit might reflect the accomplishments and industry of its residents while the spirit

of an ancient tree manifests as the beauty and tranquility of the area it grows within.

While these spirits are unable to intervene within the tangible world, individuals might

pray to a spirit for guidance or inspiration.

When the Turians developed the capacity for spaceflight and discovered the Mass Relay

network, their civilization immediately began rapidly colonizing dozens of star systems

throughout the galaxy.

Many of these colonies broke away from the authority of Palaven and several rival factions

rose to power under the influence of various chieftains.

Isolated on the frontiers of explored space and lacking a strong central government, the

colonies soon grew increasing paranoid and xenophobic.

Turian colonists began wearing emblems and facial markings to differentiate themselves

and skirmishes between rival colonies grew increasingly frequent.

The Unification War, as it came to be known saw these minor conflicts turn into open warfare

as the Turian colonies battled amongst themselves.

Distant Palaven remained neutral, lacking either the resources or political will to

become involved.

After several years of fighting, with less than a dozen factions remaining, the Hierarchy

finally intervened.

Exhausted and too weak to resist, the remaining chieftains and warlords were forced to submit

to the Hierarchy and renew their allegiance.

Though peace was restored, the unique facials markings and emblems that had defined the

colonists became fixtures of Turian society.

When the Turians first encountered the Citadel Council, they found the Asari and Salarians

in the midst of a rebellion by the expansionist Krogan.

Convinced of the threat they posed to the galaxy, the Turians joined the Council in

their war against the Krogan race.

The unique Turian martial spirit and the powerful military-industrial complex at their command

took the Krogans by surprise and the initial Turian offensive succeeded in routing many

of their warrior bands.

The counter-attack it provoked however, decimated several Turian colonies with three rendered

completely uninhabitable.

The Krogans had hoped that these brutal displays would weaken Turian morale and deteriorate

their will to fight, but the destruction of their worlds only hardened their resolve.

Over the colony of Digeris, the Turian Hierarchy suffered the heaviest losses in its history

but was successful in defeating the fleet of the notorious Krogan warlord Graken Dhal.

Finally, the Turians deployed a biological weapon developed by the Salarians, decimating

the Krogan population and eliminating their ability to continue the war.

After a final offensive by the Turian military, the Krogans collapsed.

In gratitude for their service in ending the Krogan Rebellions, the victorious Turians

were granted full membership on the Citadel Council, their fleets and armies filling the

peacekeeping role that had once been the responsibility of the vanquished Krogan.

Unlike their predecessors however, the Turians integrated into galactic civilization remarkably

well and together with the Asari and Salarians helped to bring about over 1000 years of uninterrupted

prosperity.

In 2157 the Turians fought a brief but prominent conflict with an unidentified alien race that

was in the process of activating uncharted mass relays and expanding across the galaxy.

Judged to be dangerously ignorant of galactic law, the Turians fought numerous skirmishes

and occupied a colony known to its inhabitants as Shanxi (Shan schee).

When an unexpected counterattack repulsed the Turian occupation forces, the Hierarchy

prepared for full scale intergalactic war.

This drew the attention of the Citadel Council, who quickly negotiated a peaceful resolution.

While the incident was relatively minor, with fewer than 1000 Turian casualties, lingering

resentment existed between the Turian Hierarchy and their new rivals on the galactic stage,

the human Systems Alliance.

At the behest of the Citadel Council, both nations would, over the next few decades work

to establish a more productive relationship, culminating in the design of the SSV Normandy,

a prototype deep-scout frigate co-developed by the Hierarchy and Systems Alliance.

This partnership was further reinforced when the Normandy and its human commander helped

pursue and neutralize a rogue Turian specter, halting a Geth attack on the Citadel in the

process.

In 2186 an unprecedented attack of incredible scale occurred across the galaxy as the enigmatic

Reapers positioned their enormous living starships across dozens of worlds, terrorizing and harvesting

the local populations.

The famous Turian colony of Taetrus was among the first wave of targets, and images of its

burning skylines were broadcast across the galaxy, seemingly taunting the Turian population.

While the Hierarchy answered with near fanatical resistance and a series of daring counter

attacks, the immense technological superiority of the Reapers inflicted substantial losses

and the Turians were forced to retreat to Palaven itself.

The Turians fought with grim determination, sacrificing thousands as they attempted to

learn whatever they could about this terrifying enemy.

As the Turian fleet was pushed back and the surface of Palaven became a battleground,

the Turians made common cause with an unexpected ally, the Krogan.

In a series of daring and brilliant maneuvers a joint Turian-Krogan counter attack successfully

took back huge swathes of Palaven and delivered an enormous boost to allied morale.

In the final battle of the war, with the fate of the galaxy and all its peoples hanging

in the balance, the Turian Hierarchy deployed the

bulk of its forces to assist in the liberation of Earth.

Through immense sacrifice, bravery and dedication, the Turians were able to buy enough time for

a single human specter to encounter the Catalyst, an entity at the very heart of the Citadel,

and through it make a fateful choice.

Diagonal Sand Bag Swing Exercise - Duration: 2:30.

hey it's Nick Ortego here I'm going to show you how to do a diagonal swing

with the sandbag this is the ultimate sandbag that's what it's called what I

like about it is that it does have handles if you want to use your grip but

it also has flaps on the side that allow you to get a more troublesome grip or a

type of grip that will strengthen your grip strength the same way a

conventional sandbag will test interchangeable inside bags that you

fill up with your own sand and I really like it this exercise that I'm going to

show you is really good for rotational power the side that you're firing off of

it's going to fire up the glutes really improve your explosive capacity with the

glutes so the way they start is pick out your grip you can have these parallel

handles these over hand handles can also grab the flaps on the side that's what I

do flaps on the sides I want to work on the grip strength and you set it down on

the side of one of your feet so I can have my feet about shoulders distance

apart I reach down grab it being sure to use my hips and my legs I don't want to

be rounding the spine think about hinging the hips with a little bit of

hip rotation this is what the movements going to look like from the side from

there I take a breath in swing it up and back down

that down on the side looks like this inhale exhale inhale exhale inhale

exhale that's the diagonal swing with the sandbag do all of your reps on one

side and then switch over to the other side it's best for high reps

conditioning type work got any benefit from this exercise leave a comment below

Powerful Panel Discussion Tip #119 with Susan Morris: When a Panel Moderator Has Done a Good Job - Duration: 1:33.

Susan, how do you know that you've done a good job as a panel moderator?

So there's a couple ways.

I do have my internal barometer, and the internal barometer is that, if I felt like we covered

a breadth, without going to fast over everything, there's usually a couple things I want to

make sure we absolutely get to, or a certain depth I want to make sure we get to.

So if we got to that, if the panelists all seem to be happy with their amount of time

they got to speak, if the audience seemed engaged, and you can definitely tell, because

they'll lean in and they'll be taking notes, or if no one walked out, if more people walked

in, then that gives you a pretty happy feeling.

But also, if you do a good job, the panelists thank you, and the audience comes up and they

thank you, the moderator, not just the panelists.

And like, sometimes people will find you later and tell you that.

So I think that you get both external and internal validation from doing a panel well.

The weird thing is, I think, that I can feel like I've done a panel poorly when the audience

and the panelists might feel a different way.

And I think it's just because we all have those internal standards of what we want from

a panel, and if it doesn't reach those, you can still be disappointed in your own work,

while realizing that it worked for other people.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 & Xiaomi Mi Note 3 Detailed Review! - Chinese [Eng Subs] - Duration: 9:35.

Credit to Zealer China: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_Ks6fcoGgv4LotTZszYs-g.

Hello, welcome to @Zealer channel. Today we are going to show you the hands on video of Mi Mix 2 and Mi Note 3

I should be in the USA once you saw the video

But

Since we got the prototype in the first place we will still bring you the best first impression video Let's get to the point, today we are going to hands on the just released Mi Mix 2 and Note 3

Since the Mi Mix 1 was released last year October the phone industry just comes with this bezel-less trending

Both came from the designer Philippe Starck with the same concept, get rid of the forhead, thin the chin

Rezembles the first Mi Mix

But there are still some differences: first is the screen size shrinks from 6.14' to 5.99', the body scales down accordingly as well

The second is the screen ration, before was 17:9 on Mi Mix 1, now is 18:9 on Mi MIX2, looks even more slender

at the same time it supports P3 WCG

The 3rd is the body design, the frame and the corner become more rounded, which gives a better hand feel

All these changes put together make Mi Mix 2 possess a thinner body, a better hand hold experience

Let's say the bulky feel are all gone on Mi Mix 2

The next complaint is the "cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology" from Mix 1

it may look good but like the low volumn or voice leaking issues exsit

so this time Mi Mix 2 sports a 50 mwhigh-power speaker, sound guiding tube to guid eh sound to the sound hole

to fullfill the great design

After the test we found the sound issue has much improved, we'll later tear apart to see what's inside

The ultra sound sensor, the front camera is still kept in the design which are the personality of Mi Mix 2

So does Mi Mix 2 compromise in any way at all?

The most way is the visual impact, seems not that powerful

But maybe there are several reasons contribute to so

The forhead added a bit

The 2nd is the curved frame, which looks a bit protruding from the front

the 3rd is because of the samller size makes the frame looks bigger

So these binded make Mix2 seems not visul shocking

Oh yeah BTW we've seen lots lots bezel-less phone after the release of Mi Mix, so we just feel may not that curious

But as one of the iterations Mi Mix 2 has improved greatly on the screen, mainly bc it adopts the COF technology, chip on film

[Please check more COF and COG on Wikipedia]

So the chin from Mi Mix 2 is 1mm narrower than its predecessor

This is a great improvement

Besides the screen and the design, Mi Mix 2 also adopts different materials

Last year was ceramic frame and back, this year is metal frame+ceramic back and full ceramic unibody

The former is good for mass manufacter and makes for average, the finish is not bad as well

The latter is all rounded seamlessly, gives you a feel of jade but comes with very difficult making

It is said in order to give the best finish for the 3D-effect corner, Xiaomi even invented a polisher, that's expensive

Makes us more trustful of Xiaomi's technology

Another weakness from Mi Mix 1 was the camera quality, in order to have the flat camera, it chooses OV 16880 middle level snesor

16MP, 1um pixel size, no OIS, so it's impossible to have a flagship level image quality

While on Mix 2, it comes with the same rear camera as Mi6: IMX386, 12MP, 1.25um large pixel, 4-axis OIS

which means it has the flagship level image quality

and with the tuning experience from Mi6, the quality is guaranteed

The only pity part is the protruding camera, it's not flat!

It might get worn the gold ring and camera in daily use

But beyond that, it has the same design language from the 1st Mix

We have limited time to experience the camera but we still took tons of pictures sample

As we don't have iPhone 8 so we compare it with iPhone 7 and Galaxy S8

We may bring you later with iPhone8

As expected when in daytime, the precision of color, the dynamic range is just great as other flagship phones except it's a bit weak on exposure

It improved greatly on the 1st gen

in some situations it's even better than others

As always like Galaxy and Xiaomi is sharp

When in low light, as you can see it has improved hugely at first glance, after all the hardware is much different

But when you zoom, still there are differences in iPhone 7P and Galaxy S8, it doesn't have that much details

the exposure and noise could be optimized better

Of course as what we got is a prototype so there are lots work need to be done for perfection, I bet the official version would be much better than this one

Mi Mix2 sports SD835, there are 6GB+64GB/128GB/256GB ROM for metal+ceramic back;

For the full ceramic unibody there is only one combination 8GB+128GB

In my opinion, the 128GB is enough for a normal user

The system is MIUI9, we won't specify more on that

For the Mi MIX 2 it supports 6 modes, 43 bands! Also global LTE

It also has the dual ADC audio recording, the stereo speaker and so on

Nearly everything you image it feature

Because of the smaller body the battery is down from Mi Mix1 4400mAh to 3400mAh

We haven't got enough time to test it but should be no problem

Mi Mix 2 supports Q3.0 quick charge, 18W adapter

Half an hour to charge half of the battery, fully charge need s1 hour which is normal for a flagship phone

Let's get down to Mi Note 3, it's basically a bigger version Mi6, rear dual camera, 2x optical zoom with 4-axis OIS, front fingerprint scanner

those are the same as Mi6, just the size increase from 5.15' to 5.5'

But what's inside is different, MI6 is the advance SD835 plus UFFS storage, Note3 is the middle level 660+ EMMC storage

The second is Mi6 front camera is 8MP while Note3 is 16MP, and with the big screen for Note 3, you can see they are for different users

And the price is almost the same as Mi6, so as we can see the strategy for Xiaomi Note series would be same level product line as Mi6 insteal of the upgraded level line like before

If you want bigger screen, beautify selfie go for Note 3, want more on performance, then go for Mi6, if you want a real flagship phone? Mi Mix then!

So for Mi Mix 1 and 2, I just feel it's like the difference of a concept car and a mass manufacturered car, the concept product just give you a shocking idea but it comes with bugs and flaws, not perfect for users

After the improvement of the reciever, the camera and the hand feel, it may feel less amazing but the user experince is just much better

It's like choosing your girlfriend, you may choose the good-looking one at first, but as time went by you may feel the one with better personality is the best choice

I think Xiaomi's strategy is right, Mi Mix 1 is already gain much exposure in the market for its bezel less idea, for the later iterations, just put more effort on user experience in the high-end market

We'll follow up more about Mi Mix2

Turian Hierarchy | Mass Effect - Duration: 10:08.

The Press Is Now Calling Trump "Independent", Playing Right Into His Tiny Hands - Duration: 4:09.

If you've been paying attention to the media in the last week, you probably know that Donald

Trump is really an independent, and that's not coming from Fox News, that's not coming

from Breitbart.

No, that's coming from the New York Times.

Donald Trump according to The New York Times has somehow surpassed, evolved beyond the

two party system here in the United States.

He ended the 150-year stranglehold that these two parties had on the United States and has

emerged as some sort of nonpolitical, nonparty affiliated leader here in the United States.

That's what the New York Times told us this past week in The New York Times that Donald

Trump himself claims is fake news.

While I disagree with him on most cases, I have to say that this report from the New

York Times is clearly fake news, but it wasn't just the New York Times.

Many other media outlets following Donald Trump's decision to side with Democrats on

the debt ceiling debacle where they agreed they should raise the debt ceiling.

Many media outlets started saying, look at that.

He didn't go with Republicans, so he must not really be a Republican right.

He's more of an independent.

He's his own man.

What a good guy this Donald Trump is because he did one non asshole thing one time in his

life.

You know what, sometimes even the biggest jerks in the world will occasionally do something

that's decent, but to be honest this wasn't even one of those times for Donald Trump because

a few days after this deal was announced, Donald Trump reportedly called Chuck Schumer,

the Senate minority leader to tell him, wow, look at the ratings we're getting on this.

Donald Trump didn't care about policy, he didn't care about party politics.

He cared about what the media was going to say about him.

His phone call to Schumer proves it.

This was never about a debt ceiling, it wasn't about going against Republicans or bucking

the establishment, it was about getting the media to fall all over him a few days in the

media fell right into his little trap.

They couldn't even see it for what it's worth because they're so darn obsessed with themselves

thinking that they know better that they are better.

So now we have all this media coverage saying, Donald Trump's an independent, Donald Trump's

his own man, and it's total nonsense.

Donald Trump, he may not be a traditional Republican, but he is a Republican, but furthermore

he's a guy who only cares about things like ratings as his phone call to Schumer proves.

I think look at this, after hurricane Irma's started making landfall in the state of Florida,

reporters asked Trump what he thought about it and he said in terms of branding, I think

the Coast Guard is doing very well right now.

And he said that because earlier in the day he had said the Coast Guard is doing a great

job.

Good job for the Coast Guard.

We love our Coast Guard.

So he views hurricane Irma, the death and destruction and flooding that has come along

with that as an opportunity for a governmental agency to work on their branding.

This is what happens when you run government like a business.

But more importantly, it's what happens when you run the government like it's a goddamn

reality TV show because that is exactly what Donald Trump has turned it into.

It's about ratings, it's about branding.

It's not about protecting people in the United States, it's not about policy.

It's not about anything that matters.

This entire presidency from day one, until the day that it finally ends has been and

always will be about Donald Trump.

Chris Pratt Performances We All Forgot About - Duration: 3:43.

Chris Pratt went from that funny chubby guy on Parks and Recreation to bonafide movie

star almost overnight thanks to his starring roles in blockbusters like Guardians of the

Galaxy and and Jurassic World.

But for much of his early career, it seemed as if he was destined to play on the sidelines,

as boyfriends in romantic comedies or co-workers with only a handful of lines.

Here are some under-the-radar roles Pratt played before he became a global superstar.

Everwood

Pratt's first big break came in 2002 when he was cast as Bright Abbott, a jock with

a heart of gold, on the critically acclaimed WB series Everwood.

Pratt stayed with the show throughout its four-season run, most of which dealt with

Bright's on-again, off-again relationship with Hannah.

In real life, though, Pratt wound up dating his on-screen sister, Revenge's Emily Van

Camp, for a number of years.

They split in 2007.

Strangers With Candy

In 2005, Pratt landed a part in the big-screen version of Amy Sedaris' cult TV comedy, Strangers

with Candy.

In it, he played Brason, another high school jock who becomes the object of Jerri Blank's

lusty, wacked-out desires.

As far as the Chris Pratt Film Canon goes, Strangers with Candy will likely be remembered

best as That Time Chris Rocked a Hilarious, If Unfortunate, Mullet.

The O.C.

By the time The O.C. headed into its fourth and final season, most people had abandoned

the once top-rated teen soap due to its recycled plotlines and stale acting.

Those who stuck around, however, were treated to an unexpected creative revival, due in

great part to Pratt's performance as Summer's free-spirited dorm-mate, Che.

Pratt infused the show with laughs, heart, and welcomed weirdness, allowing The O.C.

to end on a higher note than anyone could have hoped.

Wanted

Although Pratt is now known for playing hunky, charming leading men, there was a time in

his career when he was relegated to roles like "That Coworker You Just Want to Punch

in the Face."

Such was the case in the 2008 Angelina Jolie action flick Wanted, in which Pratt angered

co-star James McAvoy's character so much, he eventually got smacked in the face with

a keyboard.

"Yeah, that was great, bro.

Who's the man?"

Bride Wars

Another pre-fame role Pratt had to try on for size: playing the bro-y, suit-and-tie-wearing

fiance, as seen in the disastrous 2009 rom-com Bride Wars.

Fortunately for Pratt fans, his role in the embarrassing flop was overshadowed by the

insane antics of Kate Hudson and Pratt's on-screen love interest, Anne Hathaway.

Moneyball

Pratt got his first legitimate taste of prestige, award-winning movies when Sony cast him to

play real-life first baseman, Scott Hatteberg, in the 2011 baseball drama Moneyball.

"What's your biggest fear?"

"A baseball being hit in my general direction."

Although the role was small, Pratt held his own opposite his mega-famous co-star, Brad

Pitt, and even dropped 30 pounds to secure the role.

Moneyball marked a stark contrast to Pratt's goofy, affable Andy on Parks and Recreation,

setting him up for big movie roles for years to come.

Zero Dark Thirty

One year after Moneyball hit theaters, Pratt once again found himself at the center of

an awards-magnet movie — this time, in Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty, about the U.S.

hunt for Osama bin Laden.

Pratt played one of the Navy SEALs who helped take bin Laden down.

"So UBL?

You got an intel source on the ground?"

"No."

"No?

Okay, so how do you know it's Bin Laden?"

Her

In 2013, Pratt appeared in his third-consecutive Best Picture nominee, Her, from writer-director

Spike Jonze.

This time around, he played a coworker who goes out on a double-date with Joaquin

Phoenix and his virtual, body-less girlfriend Samantha, voiced by Scarlett Johansson — which

is just as weird as it sounds.

"I didn't mean it like that.

I just meant that it was a different experience."

"No, no, no, Samantha, we know exactly what you mean.

We're all dumb humans."

Star Wars Battlefront II Beta Details - Maps, Modes, File Size, PC Performance & More - Duration: 2:03.

This is Mack, for Pixel Enemy, here with some new Star Wars Battlefront II beta details.

These were provided by Reddit user Some_Info.

This guy or girl was responsible for some accurate E3 and gamescom Star Wars leaks,

and so deserves our attention, I think.

First up is the number of maps and modes that will be available in the beta.

There will be three different maps to play on, with a different mode being assigned to

each.

There will be Galactic Assault on Theed, Starfighter Assault on Fondor, and Strike on Takodana.

The co-op Skirmish mode will also be available to test, supporting solo, splitscreen, and

co-op gameplay for two players.

The selection of Heroes will be same as during E3, so newcomers Rey and Darth Maul will be

available, as well as some old favorites.

A new vehicle called the "LAAT gunship" will make an appearance in the beta.

However, it's suggested that this will follow a set flight path and won't actually be

controlled by players.

The beta will rock in at a large 14-16GB in size.

As for performance on PC, a closed alpha tester hasreported that the popular GTX 970 coupled

with the also popular i5-3570k with no overclock runs at a "pretty much constant 60fps"

at 1080p High settings.

Remember that's the closed alpha, and the game has likely experienced further optimizations,

and new Nvidia/AMD drivers should offer an additional boost.

Visually, the beta will apparently look even better than the E3 build, which I thought

looked stunning already.

So that's some info from the proven useful Reddit user Some_Info.

If you've pre-ordered Battlefront II, you'll be able to access the beta on October 4.

Two days later, on October 6, the beta will open up to everyone.

The game itself launches on November 17, so any beta feedback we can give to DICE will

likely actually help before launch.

Are you happy with the rumored beta content?

What are you most looking forward to experiencing: Squadron Assault space battles, playing as

Darth Maul, or something else entirely?

Let us know in the comments down below.

If you enjoyed this video, hit the "Like" button, and subscribe, if you haven't already.

This has been Mack, for Pixel Enemy, goodbye.

Lake Placid (4): The Final Chapter -- Movie Review #JPMN - Duration: 3:24.

More of the same.

This 86-minute SyFy original was released in September of 2012, and directed by Don

Michael Paul.

The TV-14 rated story once again features the citizens and officials of the fictional

Blake Lake dealing with a crocodile outbreak - which predictably results in lots of dumb

teens being eaten alive.

The optimistically titled fourth installment of the "Lake Placid" series is also the first

to feature returning characters; specifically the perennially cranky-pants, Yancy Butler.

Every line of dialogue she barks is a complaint or an insult.

She even channels a bit of "Die Hard's" John McClaine when she sarcastically mutters to

herself, "Come on out to the lake, have a few laughs...".

Alongside her is your poor-man's Kate Hudson, Elisabeth Röhm, "Nightmare On Elm Street's"

Robert Englund, and a host of English twenty-somethings who have various levels of convincing American

accents.

On the whole, everyone is serviceable without ever being offensive.

And indeed, that's sort of been the MO for this entire franchise - it's disposable, below-average

entertainment that's never egregiously awful, but hardly memorable either.

I honestly began to forget developments from one picture as soon as I began watching the

next.

The best monster franchises expand on their premise, introducing more threats, new abilities,

or unique attractions along the way.

This series however seems content with simply treading water.

It's the same story, and the same incidents over and over again.

Like its predecessors, this made-for-TV cash grab ticks off all the horror-comedy checkboxes;

an over reliance on CGI, a has-been actor as the eccentric villain (Englund), and pointless

bickering between the moronic humans.

Now, the problem with most low budget monster movies - like the ones you'd see spoofed on

MST3k - is that you don't get to see much of the monster and its victims.

The camera cuts away, stock-footage is used, or the lighting is really dark.

This technique - necessary for smaller productions - may not create an entertaining film, but

it helps elevate tension, and hide the film's shortcomings.

Paradoxically, LP4 suffers from the opposite problem; it shows too much... too often.

There's no suspense when characters are gobbled up only moments after being introduced.

The best horror movies are a lot like sex; there's some foreplay, people get naked, and

bodily fluids are spilled.

This movie however is content with just having someone's dick get bitten off.

But the audience is totally cool with it, since his character is kind of pervy.

The movie and its characters seems to intermittently adhere to safe boundaries; one minute the

water is dangerous, and everyone should retreat to the shore, and the very next minute these

conditions are totally reversed.

Least we forget, crocodiles have legs.

Also, they seemed to have developed green night vision for some reason.

Unfortunately, this isn't a new 'ability' for the crocs - that, as I alluded to earlier,

would have made this picture more interesting - just a completely unmotivated style-decision.

At this point, you know what to expect from the "Lake Placid" series - and since this

is first picture in the franchise that functions as something of a direct sequel... you might

as well check it out if you've come this far.

"The Final Chapter" is an inoffensive TV monster experience.

I thought it was LAME.

That does it for this quick excerpt - but if you'd like to watch more "Movie Night",

click or tap the thumbnails on the left.

And don't forget to visit the Jogwheel YouTube channel to see full episodes of this show

in addition to the other content I produce.

My name is Jonathan Paula, thanks for watching and have a good Movie Night!

360°, Chengdu Panda Base, China, 8K aerial video - Duration: 10:44.

Only two animal species that exist now in the modern world are called "pandas".

A small animal with the reddish-brown fur is the red panda, also called the lesser panda;

the big black and white bear is the giant panda.

Once they had a common ancestor, but then they evolved in two different ways.

As a result, the giant panda is the representative of the family Ursidae,

while the lesser panda is closely related to raccoons, skunks and martens.

The giant panda can be found only in China, and not throughout its territory,

but only in certain mountain regions of the central part of the country:

the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu.

The giant panda's diet is almost 99% bamboo:

although they belong to the family Ursidae, they can hardly digest animal food.

For the protection from bamboo chips, there is a thick mucous tissue in their oesophagus and stomach,

and the "thumb" on their paws has modified so that pandas

can hold even the thinnest bamboo stems while eating.

Giant pandas need around 40 kilos of bamboo daily,

but they also eat animal food in small quantities.

Eggs, small birds, animals and insects are an important source of protein.

As bamboo gives insufficient amount of calories,

the giant panda can not afford to be active.

The scientists have found out that the energy consumption of these animals is

only 38% of the average amount of the mammals with similar weight.

Thus, pandas spend less energy than a koala sleeping all day long.

The "Daily schedule" of pandas is rather uneventful:

they spend 10 hours sleeping and 14 hours looking for food and eating it.

And in doing so, they move no further than 20 meters per hour.

The adult specimen can weigh in between 100 and 150 kilos,

the maximum height is 1.5 meters.

Newborn pandas are very small at the moment of birth:

they are not bigger than 130 grams, meaning they are 900 times smaller than the adult animal!

The famous black and white coat pattern takes some time to appear.

At the moment of birth, the newborns are pink, blind and toothless.

The first dark hairs appear in a week,

but the fur itself starts growing 25 days after their birth.

Young cubs are fed with mother's milk for around a year,

but they stay under mother's care for around two years.

Comparing to other Ursidae representatives,

pandas do not hibernate and stay active all year round.

But still, they do not like extreme heat,

so as soon as the temperature rises they move higher into the mountains.

The typical lifespan of the giant panda

is 20 years in the wild and around 30 years in captivity.

As a rule, they give birth to cubs once in two years,

and if twins are born, the mother takes care only for one of them.

It is the reason for the slow population growth.

Poaching and deforestation had put giant pandas on the verge of extinction:

by the year 1976, only around 1,000 animals had been left in the wild.

Then the Chinese government started implementing an environmental conservation programme,

and now the number of pandas has increased to 1,864.

The native land of pandas is considered to be the area near the city of Chengdu in Sichuan province:

the first bamboo bears in the world lived here around 4,000 years ago.

Now Chengdu has the country's largest research and breeding centre.

The first inhabitants of the centre were six panda bears that were rescued

from the dangerous conditions of the wild nature.

30 years later, the number of adult animals has increased to around 100;

during that period 176 bamboo bears were born within the walls of the centre.

One more conservation organisation in this region

is the mountain reserve Dujiangyan Panda Base and Center for Disease Control

that is approximately 55 kilometres from Chengdu.

Giant pandas live a more solitary life here:

in addition to enclosures, they also have entire forest fields at their disposal.

In a way, it can also be called a "senior home" for pandas:

those animals that can't take care of themselves are taken here and stay under the care of people.

The Chinese language has given the giant panda over 20 different names:

bear cat, giant cat bear, spotted bear, bamboo bear and others.

Nowadays the names "giant panda" and "bamboo bear"

are internationally recognised and equally used.

Approximately 300 giant pandas are kept in zoos and research centres around the world.

However, China delivers pandas to other countries on special terms:

in particular, if pandas have offsprings, they should be sent back to its "historical homeland".

The giant panda is the symbol of the World Wildlife Fund.

In China, the death penalty can be imposed on the killing of giant pandas.
