(upbeat music) (audience laughing)
- As far as photography, we'll do,
Valentine's Day specials for your loved ones.
- In this episode of the #WMassBiz Show,
we're going to meet with Kristen Bousquet
and Marsia Nogueira from the Beauty Studio.
(techno music)
Let's take a peek at what they're doing
to keep Western Mass beautiful.
(Steve growls) (laughing)
(camera shutters) (funky music)
Hey guys, welcome to season two, episode 10
of the #WMassBiz show.
Kristen, Marsia, thanks so much for being
on the show. - Thank you.
- So tell us a little about the history
behind the Beauty Studio and how you guys got started.
- Sure, so we've been in business since 2015.
We met working at Sephora.
Kristen's been doing photography and makeup
and I was doing hair and makeup
and one day after some brainstorming we went,
"let's do a makeup class,
"let's try to bring these services together."
And because we thought everyone that's getting
their pictures taken wants hair and makeup done
and vice versa.
So, we did a makeup class in the Polish club upstairs
in a tiny room and it kind of--
- Blew up from there. - just blew up from there.
After that, people they needed things
for weddings that they were going to
or Kristen was doing senior photos for years
so everyone's like, "Oh, well let me get my hair
"and makeup done before my photos."
So, after the class we rented a small spot
in the Indian Orchard Mills, it was probably the size of--
- 300 square feet. - 300 square feet, exactly!
- (laughs) It was tiny. - It was very tiny.
So, in 2015 we moved into there
and then 2016 we got a bigger space in
the Indian Orchard Mills and it just kept growing.
2017 we rented a small storefront,
also in Indian Orchard, right on Main Street
and it just kept snowballing and snowballing.
We added additional services as far as photography.
We added bridal or wedding photography
because our biggest thing was always weddings for brides
and bridal parties and their families
and everything like that and then--
- Here we are today. - here we are in 2018.
(funky trumpet music remix)
- So obviously this studio is a lot bigger.
Here you are in 2018 and you guys offer a lot of products
and services, so tell us a little about those.
- Yeah, so basically the store that we have now
is about 4,000 square feet, so we quadrupled our size
(laughs) from our last store that we were in last year.
Our staff is actually also all under the age of 33
which we think is a really cool thing
because we have a lot of young people
that we know we can be up with the trends
and our services match what's going in the world today.
So, basically, as for services we do our hair
and makeup that we've been doing for years
but now with hair, we have a full-service salon, too.
So, before, it was just kind of again,
styling, things for weddings.
Now we can offer cutting, coloring, extensions,
all that fun stuff and then also,
we offer spa services as well,
so now we have nails, (laughing)
facials, waxings, spray tannings, lash, lips,
lash extensions, massage, a little bit of everything.
And then, we actually we have a full boutique now, too.
So, our boutique at our old store was kind of small.
We had just a few things but this is kind of full-blown now.
- Accessories, candles, notebooks for back to school.
Like, we really expanded the boutique aspect of it
because the location that we have now is amazing,
you know? - Yeah.
- We're right on the walking route of Ludlow.
People walk in off the street all the time,
so we really needed to expand.
- [Steve] Beautiful.
(funky trumpet music)
So, with all this extra space,
what about events that you guys do throughout the year?
- As for events, we kind of have a lot of different ones
that we like to mix-up throughout the year.
One of our biggest ones is actually dog-family photos
(laughing) or pet-family photos.
And usually what we'll do is we charge a very small amount
for the session, you get your photos back
but then we actually donate the proceeds
to different animal shelters. - Rescues.
- [Kristen] We usually pick a different one every year.
- So, those are two of our biggest ones,
it's bring your dog, have a family event
and we'll take some photos.
But we do back-to-school events,
Black Friday events before the holiday season.
As far as photography, we'll do Valentine's Day specials
for your loved ones and stuff like that.
So, it changes throughout the year but...
- [Kristen] There's always something going on (laughs).
- [Marsia] We love parties, we like having everybody around.
- [Kristen] Yes, that's true.
(laughing)
- Well, Kristen, Marsia, thanks so much for being
on the show. - Thank you.
- What a beautiful studio you guys have.
- Thank you so much. - Thanks.

- We start, uh, sorry I already messed up.
(Kristen laughs) I already messed up!
- Stop that, I better not be on there.
- [Don] I won't put you on this one.
- I didn't even talk about the boudoir.
- We got photography in there.
- We have photography in there.
Our biggest is boudoir photography.
(Steve and Marsia laughs)
(funky, hip-hop beat) (laughing)
- No, I don't know, I'm just thinking
what else haven't we done.
- [Jacque] Why don't we go upstairs and take a peek?
- [Marisa] Yeah, let's do that.
- See, so graceful here, I'm gonna roll with this
and then I'll just sit like that and this is happening.
(laughs) I'm gonna get set up first.
Come on!
(funky, hip-hop remix)
