I'm in desperate need of a haircut
Usually when people start to eat their bangs, it might be an indication that you need a little trim
Hey guys, I'm back. And today we're gonna be talking about my...
Excuse me
Let's just see who this is... Aaron shut up!
I have to make this video fun, spunky, cool, entertaining and
somehow mildly
Watchable.... so bear with me. I'm just gonna... just gonna go right into it and see where this lands me in about 20 minutes.
Today we're gonna be talking about my experiences at concerts. Now, there are different forms of concerts. There's
Like instrument concerts, there's choir performance concerts... many different kinds of concerts
But specifically I'm talking about concerts with bands like Panic! At The Disco
Metallica... all these, you know, bands, band concerts
Okay, so when I was 14 in 2014
I found out the Panic! At The Disco, one of my all-time favorite bands, this is where my... Let's see if I can get it...
That's what my tattoo is. It's a Panic! At The Disco lyric. They're probably one of my top two favorite bands right next to Green Day
In 2014 I heard that they were coming through Portland Oregon which is where I live
I saw an opportunity for me to go see them because like I said, they're coming to Portland and their tickets at the time
We're not so expensive that it was unaffordable
So me being the excited 14 year old that I was I went to my mom and I said hey
can we get two tickets to see Panic at the Disco little did I know that would start the
Domino effect of me going to many more concerts in the future.
that first concert I had gone to... unless you count me going to see The Wiggles at the Moda Center when I was 4 years old
Which I vaguely Remember...
but that concert was my first actual concert that concert was at the edge field McMenamins' concert area
Because there's the main building
I think there's a restaurant inside but then they have this outdoor concert area where you can, you know,
Go watch concerts. Sometimes Weird Al Yankovic comes through and he plays concerts there. I think The Pixies were playing there at one point
I don't know. All I know is in 2014
Panic! At The Disco was playing and it was for their Too Weird To Live Too Rare To Die tour and it was
The last concert of that tour. So, when we got tickets for it, I was super super super excited
I'm like, oh my god. I'm getting to see Panic! At The Disco
We ended up getting there 11 hours early. And I'm gonna say this now... that is not the longest I've waited for a concert
I have waited... Oh, I'll get into it later
but anyway
We got there 11 hours early and there were still people in line because at that kind of concert it was General Admission (GA)
So, basically, if you got there first, you were first in line you, were going to get front row at the concert.
Which is important if you want to be able to see. So, we were pretty
Close up front. There are still people ahead of us, but you know, whatever
We thought we got there early enough, but we did not which was a learning curve for us. After 11 hours
We were finally let in we went through security and we basically... we weren't supposed to, you're not supposed to do this,
We basically ran to the barricade and we got front row as you can see in this picture right here
And I just remember being so excited
But the thing is though when you're front row at a concert of a couple thousand people
I'm not sure how many were there but it was at least a couple thousand I think
But when you're at that kind of concert where you're standing and you're up against a barricade
And there's a couple thousand people behind you. You are reminded very quickly about how claustrophobic you are
I am very claustrophobic
So when the concert started going all the opening acts were playing and people were jumping dance and pushing shoving
I ended up having a panic attack because I had never really been in an environment like that
So I freaked out, I was wheezing. It was bad. I had a panic attack at a Panic! At The Disco concert.
I think my greatest accomplishment has probably been getting my mother into Panic! At The Disco, which says a lot about me.
But, after I calmed down after the panic attack subsided the actual band came out, Panic! At The Disco, and I was
Instantly mesmerised because there was lights there was singing there was Brendon Urie. It was amazing
and it really just reminded me about how much I love music how much I love performing and all this stuff because
Fun fact I can sing. At least I think I can
And at the end of the concert when they were giving away drumsticks, guitar picks, bass picks, and the setlist
I almost got the setlist but the girl that was standing next to me ripped it out of my palm
Cut my palm open and ran off. I am still pissed about that. So if you're by chance watching this video,
I don't like you.
I ate an otter pop. So the corners of my mouth are really cut up
So really hurts to open my mouth more than a little bit
Anyways, so after that concert, I really wanted to go to another and I don't think I went to another until
2015 when a smaller band Set It Off was coming through to Portland and that experience was completely different from
the Panic! At The Disco concert because it was with a smaller band, a smaller venue and
It was indoors and it wasn't during summer because the Panic! At The Disco concert took place, August 31st
So it was really hot. But anyway the Set It Off concert, I think was, at
Mmm, I forget what it's called. I think it's Mount Tabor in Portland. A small venue. So
When we were waiting in line, I think we learned a little bit about wait times that Panic! At The Disco
So we I believe we showed up 14 hours early because we really wanted to get front-row
We didn't end up getting front-row, but we got pretty close
So that first concert was another wild experience for me because I wasn't front row
But I was probably two or three rows back
And when I say rows, I mean rows of people because there's no designated spots in in venues like that
You're kind of just standing where you're standing
But anyway, I ended up having another panic attack there because I am claustrophobic
So my mom and I were at the concert and the lead singer Cody Carson
He sometimes will like jump off from the stage and onto the crowd which some people don't like it. That's understandable
I didn't care because he jumped right on top of me. So I'm like, oh, hey hello
Human on top of me and my mom was excited. I almost broke my phone
It was a really fun concert and I was pretty much death after the concert
So after that, I don't think I saw anybody else during 2015
Oh, no, I did.
I think Set It Off came back through in 2015 during the Journeys Warped Tour and I think they came back through summer
I'm not sure. We waited 11 hours and it was basically the same thing except I was outside and
We had to watch like six bands before Set It Off came through
So that was pretty okay, but I did catch a drumstick and I bought my favorite shorts there
So it was a pretty fun experience
oh and I got part of a setlist and when I say part I literally mean a part because I got,
like, two-thirds of it. There was like this corner missing out of it. Anyway...
In 2016. Let's see. I saw Panic! At The Disco again
Did I?
Yeah, I did. It was for the Panic! At The Disco, Weezer tour
So I ended up seeing Weezer at that concert and for that one
This was the last time that Panic! played at Edgefield, but this is the concert that I waited the most for.
I waited 18 hours in line
We ended up getting there at 5:30 in the morning
Which I think was the earliest the venue would let us. And, again, that was at Edgefield
I think I said that, though. But, we waited 18 hours in line
And I just want to make this clear... We waited 18 hours to see Panic!
Because we did get into the venue part before Panic! came out
We watched opening bands
But it took 18
hours for Panic! At The Disco to come out and I am proud to say that I did get front-row for that concert.
I fought for my spot because I had to beat all the VIP people. But during that concert
I ended up getting so sunburnt because the Edgefield McMenamins
Concert area does not have shade when you're waiting in line.
And I was in the direct sunlight, in the middle of summer...
And what made it even better was not even a day before that concert, I had just flown back in from Germany.
So I was jet-lagged as hell, I was tired, but I was determined to go to that concert.
So, the night before, I only slept like four hours because I was
jet lagged and so pumped for the concert and that was a train wreck.
But it was so so worth it and during that concert... I, again, had another panic attack because once Weezer came out,
after Panic! At The Disco, everybody just surged forward, which happens a lot when the main act comes through,
I mean it happened with Panic! but with Weezer, for some reason, it was much more aggressive
So I ended up getting shoved and I was sunburned so my knees were getting pressed up against the metal grate
It was just uncomfortable and my mom went into Mama Bear mode and got me out of there
I didn't get to see all of Weezer
But that was just for my own safety and health, which is something you really need to pay attention to at concerts
but at that concert
I did have a lot of fun though
Because I got to see Weezer which is another band that I thoroughly enjoy and I got to see Panic! again
And I got front-row
which I keep saying that but you don't realize how much of an achievement it is until you're standing in line for 18 hours and
you're using your elbows to get in front. I am very good at using my elbows. I will elbow you to get my spot
But, of course, you want to have good concert etiquette and not hurt other people which other people don't know very well
I've been punched, I've been kicked, I've been shoved.
In fact
I took a friend to a Set It Off concert once and she ended up tearing her ligament because she was yanked into the mosh pit.
So, if you're at a concert, don't be a douchebag.
In 2017 I
Turned 17 and right around then in Green Day announced that they were going to be visiting Portland during the Revolution Radio tour.
Now I have been listening to Green Day says I was still in the womb. I love Green Day
I grew up with Green Day and some people don't like the band because they're very political and whatnot. And they
preach about things that you may not agree with but I tend to not care about that as much
I just... I love Green Day.
They're probably the first band that I had ever fallen in love with second or first to Panic! At The Disco.
And so when they came through I was seriously going to cry because I never thought I'd be able to see Green Day
I just kind of assumed that they were basically done
given
Their... how their last tour went and how had a stop but I just assumed I'll never be able to see Green Day
so when they came through I'm like what the f***
And my mom ended up getting Green Day concert tickets for my birthday present and she ended up getting me VIP. If you haven't
Figured this out by now. I'd go to all of my concerts with my mom with a couple exceptions
But if I'm going to see Panic!, Set It Off, Green Day, etc
I'm going with my mom
but she bought me the VIP package and
Unlike the other concerts that we had been to this one was at the Moda Center arena in Portland
And if you live in Portland, you know what that is
But if you don't it's basically like Madison Square, but smaller.
At The Moda Center, there's seating which is something I had not experienced yet because all the venues I'd been to before
Did not have seating... and at that time Portland was having a heatwave.
It was a 110 degrees (Fahrenheit) that day. So we
By now know how it works with people waiting in line.
And even though we had VIP which got us early access so we would be let in earlier
To the... I forget what they called it, but it was a special room with this stuff
Even though we had that VIP package, we still knew to get there early
Especially because it was going to be hot. So, we ended up getting there
probably twelve hours before the concert started and thankfully we ended up getting like... a "wait spot"
Underneath the overhang of the Moda Center. So, we were under shade because it was 107 degrees (Fahrenheit) that day
I for sure, because I'm white as f***.
would have been sunburnt that day had we been out in the Sun. So,
we got very very lucky. And if you were one of the people that were caught in the sun you are a trooper.
I love you. That entire day I was just buzzing
I was so excited because I'm like
I'm gonna see Green Day. I'm gonna see Green Day. I'm gonna see Green Day. And
When we were finally let in and we were finally able to go find our spot... where we were sitting
It wasn't front-row, but it was still a spot was able to see them, which was fine by me
I mean that was
Perfectly fine because I didn't want to be on the floor
Where there was gonna be a mosh pit and all this stuff because I personally cannot handle that, nor do I like it.
But if you like the mosh
You do you fam. And I still think to this day. That was probably the loudest concert
I've been to. I couldn't hear for a week
Which... I should probably mention this. If you have not gone to a concert before and you're going to your first concert soon,
I highly recommend wearing protective earplugs. You won't be able to hear as well
But after the concert you'll thank me when you walk out and you're not deaf. Anyway...
So, that Green Day concert was a huge deal for me
I was... I've said this a lot, but it was just it was mind-blowing. I
was so happy that I finally got to see my favorite band. And now I'm gonna take my regularly scheduled water break. So...
after the Green Day concert, we waited outside the Crystal Ballroom and
This was probably one of the concerts that I had
Multiple weird experiences with because people in Portland are just a special breed of people.
There was a lady that kept walking by every now and then who had a stroller and we figured, my mom and I figured, that
She just had, you know, her baby or whatever in the stroller. No, she had a doll. It wasn't a real baby and
but it was just kind of odd because she kept walking by... she's crossing the road back and forth and in that general area there's
Not many places to go because it's right by a massive highway, so I don't know what she was doing
but it was odd and if
That's your thing. Then you do you fam. I'm not gonna judge you. But we had VIP for that concert and
the VIP experience
with smaller bands compared to bigger bands is a little bit different so we weren't sure exactly what we were supposed to do
Because I didn't get an email I was supposed to or something. But, basically, my mom and I were like, okay, what do we do?
So my mom got up to go find some answers to find somebody who could answer our questions
She ends up going around the corner
which I think there's a bar over there and I'm not allowed to go in bars because I'm
Not at the legal drinking age in Oregon. So she disappears. She's gone for ten minutes
I'm just sitting there kind of on my phone waiting
My choir teacher, at the time, ended up pulling up in front of me in a car at the stoplight. She goes...
"Oh hey, what are you doing here?" And I'm like, "I'm at a concert. What are you doing?" She's like "I'm going this way"
I'm like "cool!"
After a while my mom comes back around the corner and I look up and
Then I look back down and then I look back up and quickly realize she's with one of the band members and their manager. So
My brain just kind of froze for a second. I'm like
What and
They come over here. I'm like "oh hey, Dan.
How are you doing?" And if you know Set It Off, Dan is the, I think, guitarist for the band.
I'm pretty sure sometimes he does the trumpet and I'm like "oh my god!"
and he ended up giving me a hug.
We ended up talking a little bit about the lady with baby dolls, and I was just... I didn't know what to do
I was... I'm so awkward when I'm meeting people
I don't know what to do with myself and my brain just kind of short-circuits a little bit
But when that happened I was just like no way
Mom, what did you do? And she... after they left, after we got our answers...
I asked her "How... what?!" and she was like "Oh, well, I just kind of walked right up to him.
I said hey, my daughter's a big fan." I'm like, huh?
so it was just
OOO! A couple hours later and by a couple, I mean like 10 hours. The concert is about ready to start... in about two hours
So VIP is finally allowed to go inside and I end up meeting the rest of the band there. They were all super nice
Here's the pictures of me meeting them. They ended up playing a game with us. They
sang an acoustic version of a song for us. They signed in my VIP badge. They took pictures with us. They answered questions
They laughed with us. It was just such a good experience and there was only like ten people there
So my mom and I are one of the ten and it was just such an intimate experience and it was so fun
And then during the concert...
The actual concert, I ended up getting I think a guitar pick and the full setlist this time
I didn't get half of it or a corner of it. I got the entire thing and
I just
I again had a panic attack at that concert because...
people push, shove
And I ended up getting pushed really hard into the corner the barricade to the point where it bruised one of my ribs
But whatever, but that was just another
Experience that I will forever love because you don't often get to meet bands and I'm fortunate enough
to be able to do this again in February. And the thing with VIP packages and tickets in general
Sometimes they're really expensive even more so for bigger bands like Green Day, Muse, Metallica... so some people are unable to go to concerts
And honestly, I feel you. I'm very fortunate that I get to go to concerts with my mom and in
September of this year. I will be going to see Iron Maiden with my dad
But if you can I highly recommend going to a concert because there's just there's not many
Opportunities for you get to do that kind of thing.
One of my most favorite concert memories happened at the last concert I was at. Which was the
2018 Pray for the Wicked tour for Panic! At The Disco on August 12th...
It was probably by far one of my most favorite concerts ever. It was... the production was amazing. The lights were amazing. Brendon
Urie, as always was amazing
Lately when they're playing Death of a Bachelor, which is a bopping song,
I highly recommend going to check it out
but when that songs playing, Brendon Urie will
Sometimes walk through the crowd and I kind of figured he'd be going the other way
while doing this, but he ended up coming our way and
he was hugging, people holding people's hands, and
He walked by me, offered me his hand, and for like a second my brain just kind of fried itself
It was like "what's happening what's going on?"
And so I grabbed his hand and let me tell you... Brendon Urie's hands are very soft.
Very very soft, but he just kind of held my hand. He smiled on me kept singing
I'm like, oh my god
I just held Brendan Urie's hand and then he held my mom's hand and after that... I'm starting to lose my voice
Oh my god. Oh, this is why I have water. Water break!
But after that, I think I quite literally had a heart attack because I got very weak in the knees. I was crying
Which is a very very fan girlish kind of reaction to have
But some people like TV, some people like movies, some people like sports, some people like YouTubers... the thing is though
I freaked out so badly and I was just like that actually happened to me
That is something that happened to me and it happened to my mom. So we were just...
It is one of my favorite moments to date and I really wish I got that on camera or got a picture of it
so if you were there and you happen to have a video of the entire Death Walk, send it to me because I
would love you. At concerts
You meet people. You meet so many different kinds of people.
And you get to experience things that you wouldn't necessarily get the experience in your everyday life
I rambled so much in this video about concerts but going to concerts is very important to me
It is something I thoroughly enjoy and hopefully I get to do for many more years
While I'm on planet earth and there are still people I would love to be able to see there's plenty of artists that I would
Kill to be able to see and some I'll never be able to see
And I'm okay with that because I get to at least listen to their music through Spotify
I said that in a very valley girl tone... Spotify
I've said this before I'm going to say it again
If you haven't been to a concert... find an artist that you can go see and go to it and remember your earplugs.
Don't be like me and give yourself a little bit of hearing damage because that's not fun
You can't hear and your ears ring. But, that's it for today's video. Thank you guys so much for watching as always
