hello everyone welcome to the channel we are going to start the first let's play
series for Jon Shafer's at the gates and I did one introductory video on it
to just show you what the game was but now we are going to actually start a
game and play as the goths because that's all we can play right now at this point
I'm still playing it at point nine point nine point two version and I think there
will be a 1.0 version or something coming out pretty soon but we'll just
keep going here so if you are new to this game and you don't know what the
game is about I'll refer you to the last video that I did and looking at here
this is a pretty bad start there is an empire here like you see the orange line
so maybe not that ideal start for if this game huh
so yeah I played the game for like two turns and we have the Saxons right next
to us I mean I'm sure we can play this game somehow but it's going to be not
very ideal they are huge yeah we don't have anywhere to expand the only way we
playe this if we pack it up and then just move somewhere else
totally but then we'll miss out on a lot of turns so yeah we're just going to
start a new game alright so I had to restart the game just once so we can get
a not an ideal start but a close to ideal start just to make sure that the
game is not super hard for us and you know yeah we'll be going through it and
it doesn't make sense for us to go too hard for us so at the start of the game
we get three clans and I'm not going to go into basic basic details again
because we covered that
in effectively before was part zero of the series so
we're just going to look at new clans and see what they are clan albrecht is
an Epicure so they bring some alcohol grapes and olives with us they are minus
one power so power is what affects their warfare so we shouldn't train them as a
military unit they are likely to get upset if they're forced into an active
profession outside settlement they'll get upset if forced into warrior they
will get upset if they are unable to spend the winter inside settlement or a
resident of a structure they are crybabies basically they are also Craven
they will refuse to attack enemy armies they have plus one movement point though
I mean they are definitely not to be warriors they're Craven but the movement
point I want to make them an explorer and even though they don't like an
active profession which is an explorer and they don't like to be outside in the
winter which is also going to happen as an explorer but I think I'll do that
anyways clan Everard they are bowlegged so minus one move point and they also
might get quite upset every few years of forced into an active profession where
they are neither within the settlement or resident of a structure so again they
are not in active profession either so that's not
paranoid they have plus-one vision but -1 move point so they have - 2 move
points - 1 from this and - 1 from this Wow ok then the vision doesn't
really do much for us maybe I'll just put them in agriculture even though they
don't like active profession but we can make farms and put them in the farms
that's a resident of a structure I think so they won't be mad about it that might
be it third one is clan biegel they are
Marshman they don't have any movement penalties in Marsh tiles or heavy rain
tiles or flood tiles they're also stoic their mood is content all the time
they never have desires they never engage in feuds or engage in crime
okay well they would also be a really good
Explorer but we also need some warriors so they might become our warrior guy
alright next we look at this thing settlement is idle so we can start training
the first one this guy with heart would be our Explorer this could be our food
guy and this could be our warrior those are the three I like to start with
usually I think that works out pretty well like here we have a patch of
berries so we will start him as a gatherer as a gatherer they can get
three fruits from foraging on a patch of berries so we'll get food like that okay
so we'll do that and then we'll study your profession this is where we select
our tech tree so we'll start with agriculture because we have a guy
training in agriculture already we'll do that and close and that's it that's all
you gotta do we started with nineteen food we have 100 treasure we have two alcohol
and nearby if you look at it we have a heart of sheep that can give us more
food or they can also give us other things yeah ok harvester for meat or we
can get parchment or cloth from it or we can also make wool from it we also have
unidentified mineral one two three four of them five of them nearby so we will
need a miner guy pretty soon we have more animals some fish more animals some
more plants and what is that that's the barbarians ok and that's all we see
right now alright let's finish this turn so you can either click this button or
you can press the hotkeys are actually really good in
this game so we'll just press Enter
all right next clan has joined in so clan Lume easily cold
okay that's also really bad because they will get upset within a few months of
unable to spend the winter inside the settlement or resident of a structure
they are also intimidating no other clans on the tile may commit crimes they
were engages in fuse with other clients interesting well they'll be cold we
can't do much about it right now I think this guy will be your miner because we
need miner or two who can get all these minerals identified and keep that going
so this is the thing that we did not discuss in the episode 0 switch
disciplines so what happens is you may choose a settled clan to receive +2
levels in agriculture what happens is when we first open up a tech category
it's called discipline in this game we get two free experience points or two
free levels and we can assign those levels to anyone we want so if you click
on this thing or switch disciplines we can give two levels of Agriculture to
anyone before but since we are already training this guy in agriculture what
we'll do is we'll assign it to him but we can't give him right now because it's
already training that's how the game is programmed right now so what I do is
cancel give him that so now he has this to mark here that shows discipline
agriculture level two so now he has that and now we'll click on him again and
gatherer so we don't lose a turn he'll still be a gatherer in one turn and now
he has two levels of agriculture because he's going to be in agriculture that's a
play and all game so it's okay alright we'll study a profession I think we do
discovery next because we want to train explore and see what's around us so
we'll do discovery and finish turn
all right new clan has joined in clan Ritter
they are Northmen one move point needed to enter snow tiles and they're
sensitive might very rarely engage in minefield if there's another clan in the
same tile so let's not keep them in the settlement let's push them out and let
them do something they could be our wood gatherer or so now we have opened the
discovery tech category and now we can give 2 levels of discovery to a clan so
click on it and we thought we would give it to this guy right
or maybe this guy already this guy we could also give it to this guy actually
because he doesn't have the movement penalties yeah let's make him a scout
clan beagle there and then clans are idle so we have a gatherer we'll put
them here we used up all their movement points in that one settlement is idle
so we'll click on that and we'll train them as an explorer so we can have a
scout and we can see what's around us you can study a profession what do we
need next is the question we do need to do some of the identifying of these
things we could also do our livestock but I would like to start with the
minerals let's start with the minerals so metalworking
alright let's finish that turn
all right so now we have an explorer excellent let's take him here and see
what's what alright so we have another animal here
with this unidentified as well and we have some fish and then we have some
more wood so we'll see what we find alright now we can give two levels of
metalworking to someone let's see I don't think it matters who we give it to
to be honest yeah let's let's get them out no let's get them out yeah all right
so we'll train these guys as diggers does these guys okay clans are idle yes
so now our unit is on that path now we can tell them to forage and then they will
produce three fruit per turn and now our food supply is plus two all right so now
we study a profession and then next we could do there's one more clan coming
in next turn we'll get a new one so I do want to start training someone as an
archer that's our basic military unit pretty soon because you know we need to
have some kind of defense at some point so what I'll do is for this turn I will
train this person for livestock because we have an animal right next to us we
are animals one more here we could also do actually the wood yep let's start
with the food so we will do crafting yeah instead of the animals I'll do the
logging whatever it's called loggers and we have a digger so what we'll do is
we'll take him here and we'll tell him to identify the deposit so in four turns
and it will say it here if you look at this thing for turn so in four turns
will know what that deposit is all right we have a new clan clan Alvin Alvin no
fertility so the resource production has decreased by 10% and they are wasteful so
their resource production decreased even more yeah I think they
are okay let's put them into military unit although their health is also
decreased by 10 percent which is not great but will suffer damage on a tile
unless it has supply of at least one that's also not great for military unit
but let's make him a military in it we can switch them around later alright so
we can give two levels to someone in crafting and we're going to give that to
this person right yeah all right clans are idle oh that one is abandoned and
he's already like low health and stuff these bars so one of them is morale and
one of them is health and we're not going to go there at all we are going to go
here and see what's oh there are more bandits wow we have a lot of bandits
nearby and there's a neighbor who's not that far away either the Slavs they are
the Slavs all right what do we train now we need to start training someone as an
archer we have a lot of bandits nearby but we'll start with the with the
crafting person because we already have them in crafting that's called wood
collector so we can start collecting some wood wood is required to build
basic buildings like farms and mines and stuff like that next profession is going
to be definitely honor that's where we get the military units so we finish this
turn and then we will say hi to the Slavs you have met some of the Slavs
greetings stranger I seek a fair and friendly relationship with you are you
of similar mind yes the samo of the Slavs he's pragmatic and stoic
he's an Aryan Christian that's his religion I don't know how fleshed out
the religion here is right now in this game but every clan has a religion as
well they have zero friends or enemies their approaches indifferent towards us
relationship level is plus one so it goes from minus 10 to +10 and we'll see
how it changes influence zero reputation zero their leverage is plus one two
we'll just say it's nice to meet you as well
and ok bye bye and then we can do diplomacy with this screen speak with
leader and then we can do whatever you want here there is also a few more
things coming up okay so this is religion yeah this is our religion we
are also Arian christian and i don't know how that affects between different
christians maybe it affects diplomacy somehow i am not sure but we will find
it out all right let's finish this turn quickly so we have a notification that
says a caravan has arrived caravan is our marketplace here we can buy goods
for gold or we can sell our goods for some gold we can buy all these things
alcohol grapes barley parchment weapons and tools now since you have never
played this game you don't know what these things do and it's kind of hard to
figure out what they do but what i do know is we need five weapons to train
the first archer so what I'll do is I'll buy five weapons so we click on here and
then you say we buy 5 weapons for 30 ducats or gold or treasure whatever we are
going to call it we have hundred so we are ok we'll buy that and then there's a
thing called upgrade caravan so after spending ten treasure future caravans will
reliably have these things we'll make sure that there are a few
things that are always there so I think I'll upgrade the caravan on this turn
just to make sure some things show up next time because we will need some
things all right so some clan will get plus two levels in honor and we can do
that to this one this is the resource production one yeah let's do this guy
even though he has low health that's fine
we won't train them yet we have to research Archer
all right clans are idle wood collector let's go collect some wood let's go
there and yeah that's a lot of barbarians I don't want to go there they
will attack my Explorer and he'll die let's see what's here alright settlement
is idle so we are going to wait till the research Archer to train the sky to
Train clan loom we can train them in something what else do we want we have a
food guy we have a digger we have that we have someone chopping wood and we
have an explorer so what we can do with him is whatever in livestock there are a
couple of animals here that I would like to explore yeah what a mess a hunter yep
let's do it hunter study profession so we will next do archers because like I
said we need one defensive unit and on this tech tree you can also see what is
needed to make them so here it says their power willl increase if we train an
archer and they require five weapons to Train like beekeeper what they will do
is they will increase the honey production from beehives and you need 20
timber to train them so this will also give you an idea like what's going on so
we will research Archers next it will take us three turns and that's fine
let's finish this turn alright so I think this is a good point to stop this
first episode it might be a little bit confusing to new players and it might
take a while to get what's going on but again watch the first or the part 0 or
the introductory video on this you'll get a basic idea of what's happening in
game and we'll keep playing this for a few turns and then maybe we'll get a
hang of it and I haven't played it a lot either I have a very very rudimentary
understanding of what the game is so we will explore new things and we'll see if
we can beat the Roman Empire because that's the end game that's what you do
so alright I'll see you guys next time oh we need to figure out a name for
this series by the way something like greats at the
gates yeah that's good we'll be the great tribe that said the gates of Roman
Empire greats at the gates I'll see you guys in part two
