ZACH: Sure, you've seen ATV
jamborees on the
show before. But I'll bet you've never seen
them like this! Chad and Ria are hanging out
with our friends from Jorgensen's at the Paiute
Trail Jamboree! Place your bets now folks,
because the Booths are going head to head on
the obstacle course! Then if you're looking for a
place to relax you'll want to see where I'm at
today. If you're hungry you'll want to see what
Corinne is cooking... and if you have some
frustrations you want to vent, we've got just the
place. It's all right now on AYL!
(Theme Music Up)
[MUSIC UP]
CHAD: ATV jamborees are a lot of fun, and they
are by and far the best way for you to ever get
to understand the terrain and the trail systems
because you got people that locally know it.
They know the history, they know the things to
point out when you are out there. They know
the cool things about the trail that even if you
go and explore it on your own you're going to
drive right past that stuff and you are going to
have no idea. So there is always this inherent
value of traveling with the locals. It's like having
you best buds somewhere. Meet new people
enjoy some great food. Repeat and do it all
again the next day.
RIA: And that's why we are here today at the
Paiute Trail Jamboree and we are going to have
so much fun today.
CHAD: Well we're not quite at the Jamboree
yet. We're in Richfield because you gotta have
a ride. And we're picking one up today from
Jorgensen's, the Honda Polaris dealer here in
Richfield. They're kinda like Jamboree central.
They are supportive of all the ones in central
Utah, always show up and they are always there
ready to help people. Let's find out why they
like them so much.
[MUSIC UP]
[1ST GUY]: Paiute Jamboree and the like sorts in
the area are what we do. We fill like it's
imperative that we give back everything we can
to the community and into the trail to keep our
lifeline and our life work promoted and going
and supported and its very important to us to
join in and help. We found the jamborees to be
super enjoyable for the people that come from
all over the country. It's interesting to get to sit
and meet people from florida and Texas that
have come all the way to our backyard to enjoy
themselves.
I think people ride for the freedom I think and
the more people we have move in from out of
the area, they love the freedom that they get
living in southern Utah. You can drive your ATV
from your house. You can, uh, feel like there's,
eh, there's not as many restrictions as there is
in some of the other states.
[MUSIC UP]
Well my dad had, when he started, eh, he
became a honda dealer in 1962 so my brother
and I grew up in the business along with my
sisters and so this is just part of our life.
[MUSIC UP]
You know we've ventured out into a couple
other business ventures but we still like the
powersports industry. It's a lot more fun.
[MUSIC UP}
NEW GUY: Every major brand we have in store
and that's very, very uncommon to have these
days. You know, usually a guy will have 2 to 3,
we have all 8. You come here and it's a one
stop shop.
NEW GUY: We get a lot of people that come in
and we sit them down or show we got a a
nice map system that we show them different
rides. We'll actually call local people that want
to guide people from out of the area. We'll call,
I mean the mayor, he takes people on rides all
the time. We'll call him and they'll hook him up,
and we'll, they'll take him for a ride on the trail.
[MUSIC UP]
CHAD: That makes it pretty obvious as to why
these events are so much fun and they're so
sociable and there are so many things to do. But
we only scratched the surface down here
because still ahead is the obstacle course and all
the fun competition and we've got something
up our sleeve.
RIA: Oh do we ever
CHAD: You've got that right.
RIA: Well right now we are going to go to our
travel adventure.
ZACH: This has been a pretty exciting season on
AYL. Personally I've gone ziplining through a
tropical storm, go-Karted in Tokyo, trained to be
a ninja, and did a lot ATVing. Like... more than
may be healthy. Maybe. I need to relax from all
this play time. Which is what brings me to the
Homestead Resort up in Midway Utah.
KATIE HALWACHS: So the homestead resort has
been here since 1886. It was originally started
by a family called the Schneiders. They
emigrated from Switzerland and they bought
this land to be a farm. But it turns out the
ground is too rocky and hard and that's because
of the hot pots that are all over the valley.
Originally they had people coming over from
Park City, the miners and such, would come and
soak in the hot water to ease their aching
bones.
ZACH: Oh yeah, that sounds exactly what the
doctor ordered. First phase of relaxation: trying
some paddleboard yoga in the crater.
JULIA GISLER: I think this is the oldest yoga
studio in the world. Touted at about 10,000
years. That alone makes it really special. In
general I think Yoga is very accessible to most
people. It can serve all kinds of purposes from a
workout to a restorative practice, to some sort
of zen moment where you can meditate.
ZACH: On the journey to that zen moment there
are many travelers along the trail. The water,
moving beneath the board. The air, filling your
lungs with peace. The graceful movements of-
oh. Okay... well that... uhh... all right guys, you
killed the moment.
ZACH: There's a lot more ways to relax around
here at Homestead and I'm gonig to do them all
even if it kills me.
ZACH: Phase two of relaxing at the
Homestead... Golfing. I've got my little brother
and his friend here... and I'm going to show
them how a real golfer... golfs. Are we called
golfers? Is that what the athelete is called?
KATIE: The golf course is 18 holes
championship, it's got tons of special water
features, really well maintained, public course,
anyone can come play it.
ZACH: I. Woah! Look at that go! It's still going!
ZACH: Yep. Definitely went that way.
ZACH: Yeah! It went forward!
ZACH: So we need to hit it over that pond?
COLE: Yep.
ZACH: What in your experience with me makes
you think I'll be able to do that?
COLE: Just keep your head down.
ZACH: Was that my problem last time? My head
was up?
ZACH: It went over the pond! Wahoo!
ZACH: What do I get if I make this?
ERIK: You get it on film.
ZACH: Ha ha ha ha!
(Music Up)
ZACH: Oh Oh!
COLE: BIRDIE!
ZACH: Ho ho ho! Yeah! 18th hole! Cameraman,
what's my score?
ERIK: 60
ZACH: 60? That's pretty good! What did you
get?
TY: 39.
ZACH: What? What did you get?
COLE: 40
ZACH: Turn the camera off.
KATIE: We were started by a family. We're still a
family. Everyone that works here is really, super
invested in the property. We all think of it as
our own. So that is then transferred onto our
guests. So it's just special, is what it is.
ZACH: And if you had any doubt... phase 3 of my
perfect relaxation plan OF COURSE involves
food.
KATIE: The dining room actually feels like you're
in somebody's dining room. So that's really
comforting and cozy.
ZACH: Let's see what's going on in the kitchen
shall we? So this is where the magic happens.
He's the David Blaine of cooking.
ZACH: What're you working on here?
COOK: Cheese curds for appetizers.
ZACH: Oh cheese curds? Do you need me to eat
any of those before they go out?
ZACH: Oh my gosh, that looks amazing.
COOK: Oh yeah, it's good.
ZACH: This the prime rib? Oh wow.
ZACH: Tell ya what, how about I just take that
with me to my table, that okay?
COOK: Oh yeah
ZACH: A lot of people don't know this but a
prime rib comes from a prime cow.
ZACH: Relaxing as hard as I have today takes a
lot outta you, so I am very hungry.
(Music Up)
ZACH: I think I'm ready to eat. And I think you
guys are ready to go on to a commercial break
so More AYL after this.
(Theme Music Up)
CORINNE: Welcome back to At Your Leisure, I'm
Corinne Smart and I hope you guys are hungry
because we have Bakin Bill here today and he is
going to show us a really good dutch oven
recipe. How ya doin Bill?
BILL: Oh I'm fine. Fantastic
CORINNE: Good. So what are we cooking today.
BILL: We're going to be doing a Goulash
Casserole
[MUSIC UP]
BILL: K, we're going to add some onions. First
of all, dice these onions up.
[MUSIC UP]
BILL: Ground Turkey and Ground beef too.
Wanna do some stirring on that?
CORINNE: Yes.
BILL: While you're stirring I am going to add the
garlic
CORINNE: K
BILL: And It's really important to get proper
measurements here.
CORINNE: How much would you say that is? I
am not good at like just dumping stuff in. Real
Chefs never measure things. They always just
dump it in because they know.
BILL: We're just going to put the lid on here for
a little bit.
CORINNE: K, so once we put the lid on, how
long do you keep the lid on to cook the meat?
BILL: Until all the grease is, eh, congealed and
separated. We got a lot of moisture in here.
And that moisture, some of it's water, some of
it's fat and we'll want to take that out so uh, to
do that, we're going to
CORINNE: That is so good
BILL: A simple way is just to take a couple paper
towels and put them in their and absorb that
up. OK, and we are going to be adding diced
tomatoes and tomato sauce. Can you dump
those to in?
CORINNE: Yes
[MUSIC UP]
BILL: We're going to add some spices to go
along with this. We have some seasoning salt
and we got a little bit of seasoning, Italian
seasoning. Italian seasoning is made up of
oregano, ground oregano, basil. About 3 bay
leaves in here. At this point you need to add
Worchester sauce or soy sauce.
CORINNE: I never had Goulash before so I don't
what it's supposed to look like.
BILL: Let's put the lid on
CORINNE: K, how long is that supposed to be on
for?
BILL: Until we get, uh, the noodles cooking and
we'll add those.
CORINNE: Ah, I love noodles.
BILL: First thing to cook the noodles, we need to
have water to cook it in. I'm adding a little bit
of seasoning salt in here.
CORINNE: So I have a question.
BILL: Yes
CORINNE: Since it's like a pressure cooker and it
cooks it a lot faster, normal pasta cooks in
about 8 minutes right? So how long will it take
the pasta to cook because you don't want
overcooked pasta.
BILL: Well you'll want to cook until what? El
dente.
CORINNE: El Dente
BILL: Do you know what that is?
CORINNE: Yeah like soft, but kind of hard at the
same time.
[MUSIC UP}
CORINNE: oh yeah, it's done. It's done.
[MUSIC UP]
BILL: Ok, will you please stir while I pour the
pasta into the goulash
CORINNE: Ummmm. That's a good steam bath
right there.
[MUSIC UP]
BILL: This is how we test to see if it's good.
MMMM MM
CORINNE: More at your . More at your leisure
in just a minute.
[MUSIC UP]
CHAD: You ready for this part?
RIA: I'm ready partner!
CHAD: Ok, welcome back to AYL, we are here at
the Paiute UTV jamboree in Marysvale, and you
know people━when they come to events like
this━they think of it just like a motorized thing.
But think of a jamboree kind of like horseback.
You have two things that start with an R you
have Rides and then there's Rodeo.
(Music Up)
DARIN: Well the jamboree is a really interesting
hodge podge of activites that we change up
every year. But usually we've got poker runs,
guided runs, not guided runs, we have a world-
famous mudpit belly flop we have drag races,
we have our king of the hill competition that
has been going on since 2009. We have a dirty
dash, the kids run through the mud in search of
$100 bills buried in the bottom of the mud pit.
RIA: I am going to take this baby on the obstacle
course. That's right, I'm gonna steal it, and take
it on the obstacle course. And chad you can't do
anything about it. I'm just gonna do it, and then
I'm gonna wreck it, and then you're gonna have
to pay for it.
CHAD: We are headed to financial ruin, but it
will be fun.
RIA: Hey dude, get out of the way, I'm headed
for the obstacle course.
(Music Up)
(Engine Revving)
RIA: You know what, I hope I don't bottom out
but I am excited.
CHAD: Meh it's fun to dream but I don't think
this is a good idea.
DARIN: So Chad and Ria decided to compete
today in our various events going on. They
competed in our blind man barrel racing.
CHAD: I don't know what's going to be different
about this. Blind folded or not she's always
telling me what turn to make.
RIA: I'm holding a big banana! Hee hee!
DARIN: This is a timed event Ria, and the time
to beat 1:12. You have to go on the left of the
first barrel, on the right of the second barrel,
the left of the third barrel, then out the exit.
RIA: Okay
CHAD: Do you know what that means Ria?
RIA: I am positive we won't be able to do this.
DARIN: Go!
RIA: Okay, where you goin?
CHAD: I don't know!
RIA: Wait, oh wait! No go right, hard right! Hard
right! Now go over that way! Go to that one.
DARIN: The guys got a blind fold on and she's
pointing and saying, "Go left, go that way" with
her finger.
RIA: Go to that one!
CHAD: What's that one?
RIA: Straight!
RIA: No no no no! Oof
RIA: Do we have to go around the entire barrel?
DARIN: Yeah, you have to go on the left side of
that barrel!
RIA: Okay, I think we need to go to the exit.
(Laughing)
DARIN: Chad and Ria, they got disqualified, they
went off the course, missed the exit completely.
RIA: OMG! All right, I really screwed this one up.
DARIN: They competed in our UTV soccer and
unfortunately they were disqualified.
DARIN: She pushed the ball off the course. It's
just like soccer, it's called out of bounds Ria.
DARIN: They did race in our king of the trail
competition and Chad didn't do so good?
RIA: Man
DARIN: Hey hey hey hey! Oh man you missed
the rock pile!
DARIN: You gotta put her in four wheel drive.
CHAD: Ria's changed her mind. She's going to
enter the race. We'll see if she can find her way
through it.
(Music Up)
STEVE: Ria, you're in first place!
RIA: Ha ha! Beginner's luck!
DARIN: I think at the end of the day they didn't
tear up any of Jorgensen's equipment, so it's
good.
RIA: We're gonna head off to our trailhead,
brought to you by Rocky Mountain ATV MC.
Joe: When it comes to planning date night,
you probably have your go-to's. Bowling,
laser tag, maybe a mystery escape room.
And while those are still great activities,
we've got another option to add to your list.
Social Axe Throwing.
BRAYDEN: I can't take credit for the idea in
general, but the idea came to me through a
facebook video. I was literally scrolling
through facebook one day, the actor Jason
Mamoa pops up on my facebook feed, he's
standing in front of a target, get's a beer
handed to him, he says "My name is Jason
Mamoa. I like drinking beer, and chucking
axes. He turns around, nails the bullseye,
and I'm like, "What did I just see?" I kind of
went down a rabbit hole, come to find these
venues are all over Canada, and when we
founded 16 months ago, we were the ninth
in the states and now theyr'e popping up
everywhere, man. I think it's taking off
because, for one, it's something new. It's
something new to bring to town and have
fun with, to get out with your friends. It's a
non-electronic activity. I mean you'll have
your phone out instagramming or taking
video, but you're not bored enough that
you're text messaging.
Joe: Putting the "Social" in "social axe
throwing," Brayden and his team ensure
their guests grow together as a group in
their state of the art facilities along the
wasatch front with a unique activity, cold
ones available for knocking back, and
expert instruction so by the end of the night
everyone is able to nail the bullseye.
BRAYDEN: I'm going to teach you guys
how to throw, all right? Take your non
dominant hand. Left hand on the bottom. My
pinky is almost falling off my thumb is
straight up and down. Then I'm going to
take my right hand, or my dominant hand,
and place it right on top. Cinch those hands
together nice and tight, thumbs are straight
up and down. From there I'll set my footing.
I'm going to take my non-dominant foot, and
I will place my non-dominant foot in front of
that first blue line. Mental photo, this is your
start point every time. Now from here it's
one fluid motion. You'll go over the head,
step, release, straight up and down then
follow through. K, I'm going to go ahead and
throw one for you. All the way through!
BRAYDEN: Social axe throwing is for
everybody. Anybody and everyone. We've
had all walks of life come in here and throw.
Not the most athletic type of people have
come in here, and we've seen them throw
and have a blast.
RACHAEL: What is happening?
Joe: During a two-hour session after
instruction is received, the group is split into
two teams and pitted against each other in
several axe-throwing themed competitions.
All culminating in a bracket style tournament
for the most glorious prize of all bragging
rights.
(Music Up)
ZACH: Tell me what you're strategy is for
winning this.
NICK: I'm going to channel all my D&D
experience and just channeling that into
my aura?
ZACH: How did you find a wife?
NICK: I don't━
ZACH: How?
ZACH: What's your strategy for winning
this?
JUSTIN: I have no idea, just throw and hope
it sticks.
ALYSSA: Brayden was awesome, he made
it a super great experience. We got to play
games, he walked us through everything, he
told us exactly what we were doing wrong
so we could get it right.
JESS: As he was showing us the
demonstration I was a little intimidated, a
little nervous, but as I got up there it was
really cool how quickly we picked it up, and
I felt really powerful.
AMORIESCE: It was fun to participate with
everyone and get to know different people.
JUSTIN: There's a natural progression with
everyone, clearly everyone was struggling at
first but once we got the feel for it, it
became very natural. It was a lot of fun,
don't be intimidated by it. It's not as hard as
you think it is, give it a while and you'll get
it.
JOSH: It's kinda hard to explain, it's just
something nobody is good at so you can all
jump in and be expert at it. So, it was just a
fun time learning and doing it. To win a
tournament of amateurs, it was fantastic.
Joe: If you're new to the sport, I'd
recommend reserving a two-hour session
with a coach. But if you've been there, done
that, and got the t-shirt, there are walk-in
courses as well. To book your spot just go
to social axe throwing.com and who
knows, maybe this date night will stick!
From the trailhead, I'm Joe Davis.
(Theme Music Up)
RIA: It's warm! Beautiful.
CHAD: That's what we get to run in, welcome
back to At Your Leisure. I dare you. Okay. This is
the finale! If ATV and UTV rallies are about
getting dirty, doesn't get much better than a
mud run.
RIA: I brought my goggles!
(Dirty Dash Music Up)
RIA: There's a $100 bill down there in that
water pit and they're going for it!
(Crowd Cheering)
RIA: I think it's gonna be a blast, but I'm not
getting my head under unless it's by that guy.
CHAD: I just might be that guy.
ANNOUNCER: 3, 2, 1 go!
(Racing Sounds.)
RIA: OH my gosh, that was so fun. I highly
recommend everybody does this.
CHAD: Okay, this is the coolest part of the day.
Because it's been like 95 degrees out there, but
it isn't in here.
ANNOUNCER: Ria, nice do!
RIA: We had a blast!
ANNOUNCER: Yeah?
RIA: All right, we're gonna catch our breath
while you look at next week's show.
CHAD: Are you winded from a little mud run?
RIA: That was tough!
CHAD: Hahaha!
ZACH: While we won't be getting that dirty on
next week's show, we'll have plenty of
opportunities to get some dirt under those
fingernails. I mean, this is an outdoor show
after all. School may be starting so we want to
show you some fun destinations and quick
activities that you can hit up with the kids
before the bell rings on another semester. Do
kids have semesters? Is that just a college
thing? Anyway, it's all here in 7 days!
RIA: Oh!
CHAD: That was the stature of liberty dive, I saw
that one. Or no! The Captain morgan. That was
the captain morgan. Anyway, we've had so
much fun down here today. There's events like
this all year long. Go to our website, we try to
keep them listed. If you know of one, be sure to
let us know.
RIA: That's right, but for now let's talk about the
Red, White and Road. The steadman's ride that
we do every single year in September down in
Torrey. If you want to register for a motorcycle
ride, absolutely beautiful ride along highway 12-
CHAD: And a dutch oven dinner at the end of
the day.
RIA: Go to AYLtv.Com to register.
CHAD: Happens September 14-15, Ria and I will
be there, we'll be looking for ya.
RIA: We will be.
CHAD: So, as this proves, no matter where you
are if there's a pond of muddy water there's
adventure around every bend.
RIA: You just gotta get in and jump in it.
CHAD: Haha! See ya next week!
