How to Stop a Child with Autism from Hitting | Autism ABA Strategies - Duration: 6:51.

When people find out I'm a behavior analyst and work with children with autism the most

common question I get is how do I stop my child from problem behaviors?

Such as hitting?

So how do I stop my child from hitting?

Or biting?

Or yelling?

How do I stop my child from doing something?

Today, I'm going to cover the question, how do I stop my child from hitting?

Hi, I'm D.r Mary Barbera, autism mom, board certified behavior analyst and best-selling

author.

Each week I provide you with some of my ideas about turning autism around.

If you haven't subscribed to my YouTube channel, hit the subscribe button now, and the notification

bell, too.

A few months ago I published two blogs on the subject of reducing problem behaviors

but since aggression is such a big issue for many kids with autism I could literally talk

about this every single week, and in a way, I actually do.

Because even if I'm talking about teaching a child to answer questions or tie his shoes

or get a haircut half of the equation of teaching a child any skill, especially a child with

autism, is that you always have to be considering how to best prevent and treat problem behaviors

around the clock.

Before I get started with some strategies to stop or reduce hitting I want to give you

a disclaimer.

This information, all the information in my video blogs is not intended to serve as a

substitute for consultation with medical and behavioral professionals.

Only qualified professionals who know and work with a child on an ongoing basis can

adequately assess and supervise a child's program.

I always recommend including a board certified behavior analyst on a child or clients team.

This is especially important if a child is in danger of hurting themselves or others.

Now that we've got that cleared up, with any behavior we want to increase or decrease we

have to start with assessment.

How often does the child hit in this case?

Who or what is the child hitting?

Some kids hit walls, for instance.

Some kids hit their own heads.

Some kids hit their siblings or teachers.

You also want to look at whether the hit is with an open hand or a slap, or a closed fist

like a punch, and obviously, the age, the size and the strength of the child are also

factors.

If we are talking about a two-year-old that's kind of flailing and hitting, versus a 15-year

old whose punching people in the face?

Those are the same type of behavior but very different circumstances.

The most important thing to assess is the situations where the child is most likely

to hit and then to analyze the function of the behavior.

Or, the why?

Some kids hit other people when those people put demands on or tell the child that they

can't have something they really want.

Other kids hit themselves when they're not engaged.

When they're bored or when they're in pain.

Another important thing to look at is when the hitting does not occur.

So, if you said your son would not hit if he was given free access to his iPad all day

long or he won't hit if he's in a swimming pool that will give you important information

as you make a plan to stop or at least reduce the behavior.

The final thing to look at is in terms of assessment is how frequently the hitting and

other problem behaviors are occurring.

The thing about hitting is that it usually doesn't doesn't happen in isolation.

Hitting usually happens with screaming, with kicking, with falling to the ground or the

floor, and sometimes with biting, too.

It sounds really complicated.

Even just the first step of assessing and it is.

A lot of people treat problem behaviors without knowing the answers to these important questions

first.

Interventions end up backfiring and the behaviors can often worsen, not get better especially

if there's no board certified behavioral analyst to help assess and help the family or school

team make a plan.

Once the hitting is fully assessed the next step is to make a plan.

The plan is most likely going to revolve around how to prevent hitting, because once hitting

starts it can become dangerous.

Making a plan is really gonna be helpful if prior, when you're assessing, you checked

when the behavior happened but also, importantly, when the behavior never happens.

Most people are way too reactive to problem behaviors and we need to turn that around

and look for ways to prevent problem behaviors.

You might want to increase those activities like swimming in a pool when you know that

hitting is not going to occur in those situations.

It gets complicated when it becomes winter and you can't be in the pool in certain climates

and all that.

You certainly don't want to let a child on an iPad all day long so as you increase some

of the preferred activities you're also going to be increasing reinforcement, but you're

gonna have to make a plan to increase demands and slowly fade out some of those reinforcing

activities.

In summary, stopping hitting or any other problem behavior is a lot more complex than

I can cover in this short video blog, but I do have a three-step guide to help you assess,

plan and even learn how to start taking easy data.

To get things turned around for any child with autism download my free three-step guide,

which covers the three steps you can take today to help move forward in starting to

turn things around.

Whether you're a novice parent or a seasoned autism professional I know you'll find some

helpful new tools in this guide.

after week, and I'll see you here, next week.

I love Manila, I love the culture,

I love how it became a hub for the youth.

I studied here

so I know how Manila brings out the creativity of the youth.

You can see how the city preserved

the inheritance of different cultures

but it is still Filipino.

Manila has a lot of different characters.

It's gritty and neat at the same time.

We wanted to choose each location based on

the characters' personality

and how the space reflects each of their crafts.

There's a lot of challenges in this project

but our main problem was dealing with the weather.

We're all excited to do this project.

It's very rare here in the Philippines to have a project like this.

One brand showcasing different rockstars of different fields.

Arsenal news: Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness reveals Unai Emery transfer hope - Duration: 3:43.

That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness, who believes the Spaniard can also have an impact on the players already at his disposal

Arsenal kicked off the new Premier League season on Sunday with the daunting task of hosting Pep Guardiola's swashbuckling Manchester City at the Emirates

Reigning champions City ran out 2-0 winners on their visit to north London as they took on an Arsenal side which included two of Emery's summer signings

Matteo Guendouzi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos rocked up at Arsenal alongside Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno and Stephan Lichtsteiner in the wake of Emery's appointment

Souness says Emery will need time to make his mark on a club which was led by Arsene Wenger for more than 20 years until the Frenchman stepped down in April

And the Sky Sports pundit says he hopes the former Sevilla boss is backed with more funds in time for the January transfer window

"Time is not the manager's friend, whether he gets four transfer windows or not, he will need time," said Souness

"I think he can work on the players he's got, make them better and more willing to do the hard yards and hope there's something coming through

"Hopefully he has another budget at Christmas time to work with." Souness' comments came after his fellow pundit Gary Neville suggested it might take four transfer windows for Emery to right the wrongs of Wenger's last few years at Arsenal

"I don't think this is short term," said Neville. "The recruitment has been so bad here over the last three or four years, it's going to take two or three, maybe four transfer windows to sort this out

"Emery is a great coach and he needs three or four transfer windows. "I don't care who the coach would be, you could bring Pep Guardiola in here, even with the biggest transfer budget and one of the best coaches in the world, it's going to take him more than that

"It's too early [to judge him]. "He's trying to rewind 20 years of culture, training, the mindset of everything and what you saw today was Emery, who is the head coach of the team, but a performance of a team who were still playing the same way

"I watch those players and they look one-paced to me, they don't look like they're accelerating the game

"You look at City going forward and the speed that's in their game. "Emery will want a lot more intensity in his team and to be fair, these players have played in their comfort zone for the last two or three years and Arsene Wenger has been the fault of that, according to everybody, but the reality is the players have now got no-one else to look at

"He'll get rid of those players if they don't start playing at a higher intensity

"I think they started quite early in the second half but it's far too early to judge him

"He definitely needs three or four transfer windows to make this team his own."

in a nearly half-century long, titanic struggle with the Soviet Union known as "the Cold War."

It was cold only in the sense that the Russians and the Americans never came to direct blows.

But it was certainly not cold for the Cubans, Koreans, Vietnamese, and others who got caught

up in the Communists' relentless drive to destabilize the free, democratic, capitalist world.

There were, to be sure, many morally complex moments during this long struggle, but the

Cold War was, at its core, as clear a conflict of good versus evil as World War II had been.

Just like that war, the Cold War was a death match between the forces representing freedom

and the forces representing totalitarianism.

Because hundreds of thousands—perhaps millions—died in it, the Cold War can, with good reason,

be described as 'the Third World War.'

The instigator of this war was Josef Stalin, the mass-murdering dictator of Russia and

of the many non-Russian peoples he had incorporated into what was known as the Union of Soviet

Socialist Republics, or Soviet Union for short.

Stalin knew that his Soviet armed forces could not take on the might of the free West.

Instead, he decided to wage this fight through the use of proxies, and by a massive use of

disinformation and misinformation.

His initial prey was Eastern Europe: the Baltic States—Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia—as

well as Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Czechoslovakia.

Stalin had troops in all these countries at the end of the war.

Despite what he promised American President Franklin Roosevelt at the Yalta Conference,

the Soviet leader had no intention of removing them.

And gaining control over their governments proved to be quite easy.

In March 1946, Winston Churchill famously declared that "From Stettin in the Baltic

to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent."

When Stalin threatened both Greece and Turkey, President Harry Truman finally had enough.

The so-called Truman Doctrine was born.

The United States and its allies would not permit any further expansion

of the communist empire.

The Cold War was on.

For the next five decades, and across four continents—Europe, Africa, Asia, and South

America—the US and the Soviet Union battled for influence—sometimes overtly, like in

Korea and Vietnam; and sometimes covertly, through their various spy agencies.

But the moral lines of this battle never changed: the freedom of the West versus the communist

tyranny of the Soviet East.

There are, nonetheless, as there were even at the time, those who argue that the Cold

War was an over-reaction by the West: that the ambitions and strength of the Soviet bloc

were greatly exaggerated; and that America, with its massive defense build-up, was just

as responsible for the Cold War as was the Soviet Union.

But this simply isn't true—as an immense amount of archival evidence from Russia, not

available until after the Cold War ended, now proves.

Nikita Khrushchev, Stalin's successor, stated Soviet intentions plainly in 1956:

"We will bury you!" he told the West.

Nor would any amount of negotiation—"détente," as it was called then—have led to a just

conclusion of the war.

The American diplomat George Kennan rightly warned that, short of becoming a Communist

country, there was nothing the United States could do to gain the Kremlin's trust.

The Soviets could not be appeased; only contained.

But even containment was an inadequate strategy.

Yes, the Soviet Union could not have beaten the US in a head-to-head confrontation,

but it didn't have to.

Victory in the Cold War would have allowed it—through intimidation and subversion—to

dominate the globe, making Communism, rather than democracy and capitalism,

the preeminent ideology.

There were many times during the five decades of the war that it seemed like this would

be the case.

But thanks primarily to the strong leadership shown by Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher,

and Pope John Paul II, the Cold War ended not with a bang, but a whimper.

The Soviet Union was, at the close of the 1980s, to use historian Paul Johnson's description,

"a bewildered giant"—economically bereft, militarily exhausted, no longer able or willing

to enforce its will.

Communism had failed in every possible way—economically, politically, morally.

It had tried to create a Utopia on earth and instead created hell for all of the nations

that came under its sway.

Yes, the forces of liberty eventually won the Cold War.

But this triumph offers little consolation to millions who died or suffered needlessly,

through no fault of their own, for a never-viable and now badly discredited cause.

Arsenal news : Unai Emery reacts to Man City loss and Matteo Guendouzi performance ● News Now ● #AFC - Duration: 2:20.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery admitted that his team did not perform the way they wanted to

in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

An early Raheem Sterling goal and a second-half strike from Bernardo Silva proved to be enough

on a comfortable afternoon for the champions.

The contest was the Gunners' first Premier League game without Arsene Wenger for 22 seasons

and Emery's first competitive one since taking over.

While fans may have been hoping for an easier start to the campaign, some had said it may

be the best time to play Pep Guardiola's men.

"The result was 2-0 but I think on the pitch over the 90 minutes we were getting better,"

said the Spaniard afterwards.

"The first half we didn't play like we wanted.

We spoke at half-time about taking more responsibility for the second half, to do a little more.

"We wanted to build with the ball and break their lines.

I think in the second half we played more like we want."

Emery handed debuts to two new signings, including 19-year-old Matteo Guendouzi, a surprise £7m

signing from Lorient in the summer.

And it was Guendouzi who received the blame from his Arsenal teammates after Sterling

bagged the first goal.

On the teenager, Emery added: "It's his first match here in the Premier League.

"He has personality and quality and if he is on the pitch he is improving very quickly."

Emery now has another week to work with his players before the London derby against Chelsea

at Stamford Bridge next weekend.

While the new boss could not send home the Arsenal supporters with a victory, he was

full of admiration for their support.

"We wanted to start here with our supporters," he said.

"We wanted to show our performance but it is clear against Manchester City we could

not give them this win.

But I think here we are going to feel very well."

Arsenal News: Ian Wright sends warning to Unai Emery ahead of Chelsea clash - Duration: 2:25.

The Gunners went down 2-0 to Manchester City yesterday but created a few goalscoring chances of their own

Realistically however they could have conceded more goals to Pep Guardiola's side who began the season where they left off last year

Arsenal face a tough trip to Chelsea on Saturday wary of losing their opening two fixtures

And Wright believes his former side paid the price yesterday for not being sure of their roles against the defending champions

At this level against this Man City team you need to 100 per cent execute the game plan," he wrote on Twitter

"For large parts of that game I didn't know what that was and you get punished for that tactical uncertainty

"There are some big positional and personnel decisions to be made ahead of the Chelsea game on Saturday

"Patience required but Unai will be under no illusions after watching that game today

Wright was pleased with certain aspects of the performance, in particular, two new summer additions made by Emery

Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira made their first competitive appearances for the north Londoners, and the former England striker liked what he saw

"Two positives were Guendouzi not hiding and Torreira making his debut but gutted for Ainsley Maitland-Niles' injury," he added

Guendouzi showed some serious character at only 19 years of age."He made mistakes but never went into hiding, kept his head up, always wanted the ball and kept trying

Chelsea beat Huddersfield 3-0 two days ago and welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge this coming Saturday (5

Apple's $1 Trillion Value Doesn't Mean It's the 'Biggest' Company | Heavy.com - Duration: 12:54.

Apple's $1 Trillion Value Doesn't Mean It's the 'Biggest' Company | Heavy.com

On Aug. 2, Apple became the first U.S.

public corporation to achieve a US$1 trillion valuation, making it the largest company in the world – by one measure at least.

A New York Times article proclaimed that this milestone "reflects the rise of powerful megacompanies" that control a large and growing share of all corporate profits.

It also warned that this phenomenon might be contributing to stagnant wages, a shrinking middle class and rising income inequality, suggesting regulators may need to rein them in or break them up.

But what exactly defines a "megacompany"? And what would make it so powerful that it needs dismantling, like "Ma Bell" back in the 1980s?.

As a scholar of corporations, I believe that if we want to understand – and regulate – big companies, it's important to be clear on the very different meanings of "big.

Yesterday's 'Big'.

When Fortune magazine first wanted to create a roster of America's 500 biggest corporations in 1955, revenue was the obvious way to think about size.

A "major corporation" was one that sold a lot of products.

With almost $10 billion in annual sales, thanks to its 54 percent share of the U.S.

auto market, General Motors topped Fortune's list that year.

But GM was also big in most every other way, including its stock market valuation or "market cap" (where it was No.

1), assets (No.

2, after AT&T) and employment (also just behind AT&T at 624,000).

Indeed, for much of the post-war era the biggest corporations were big in every way, and market cap was very highly correlated with revenues, employment and assets.

Not anymore.

The post-industrial corporation of today is often heavy on market cap but, like Apple, light on employment and hard assets.

Let's Look at Apple.

Apple does not own the giant factories that assemble its popular phones – Foxconn does.

Apple is notably light on tangible assets like property, plan, and equipment, relative to its total assets.

And with only 123,000 employees globally, Apple is not even among the 50 largest employers in the U.S., in spite of operating a chain of retail stores.

So how exactly is Apple "mega"? In the eyes of The New York Times and Wall Street, it seems, primarily because it's worth a trillion dollars.

Market capitalization is the market value of all of a company's shares.

By this measure of size, Apple is not alone in the stratosphere.

On the day Apple passed $1 trillion, Amazon was worth $895 billion, Google owner Alphabet was valued at roughly $853 billion, and Facebook was at $509 billion.

Yet just like Apple, their market caps belie more traditional measures of size.

Facebook vs. Kroger.

To illustrate this, let's compare Facebook with Kroger.

In 2017, Facebook had 25,000 employees and $41 billion in revenue.

Grocery chain Kroger – America's third-largest employer – had 449,000 employees and $123 billion in revenue.

In other words, it would take 18 Facebooks' worth of employees to make one Kroger, and the revenues of three Facebooks to equal one Kroger.

The 135-year-old, (mostly) unionized grocer operated 2,782 supermarkets and hundreds of other stores across the U.S.

Facebook's revenues came almost exclusively from selling advertising.

Market cap, however, tells a different story: Facebook's market cap on Aug.

2 was $509 billion.

Kroger's was a fraction of that, at less than $24 billion.

That is, it took more than 20 Krogers to equal the value of one Facebook.

This divergence was highlighted the previous week, on July 26, when Facebook's market cap dropped $119 billion – five Krogers' worth – in a single day.

So which one is mega, Facebook or Kroger? Is market cap really the measure we should be using to define what makes a company big?.

After all, Facebook's high valuation does not mean it has a half-trillion dollars sitting in an underground vault somewhere in Menlo Park.

Its shares are mostly owned by outside investors (although Mark Zuckerberg still controls an absolutely majority of the votes and, therefore, the board of directors).

And if we think of businesses as "job creators," then the tech sector turns out to be a big disappointment.

Facebook is hardly alone in its employee-light approach.

Netflix, the global video-streaming behemoth, has just 5,500 employees, of whom 600 are temps.

Its market cap was $345 billion on Aug.

2, or 14 Krogers.

Even Alphabet, the paradigmatic corporation of the 21st century, has only 80,110 employees around the globe.

Notably, Bloomberg reports that Google's "temps, vendors and contractors" actually outnumber its permanent employees.

Does Wall Street Hate Job Creators?.

The seeming paradox of corporations being giant in one dimension and tiny in others can be resolved by examining what Wall Street values and what it disdains.

Specifically, it seems that the stock market does not love job creators, and if it is impossible to avoid having employees, Wall Street prefers that they not be paid well.

In other words, in the minds of those in business, there may be a built-in negative relation between market cap and employment.

Consider some examples. On Feb.

19, 2015, Walmart – America's largest employer by far – announced that it would raise the minimum hourly wage paid to its U.S.

employees to $9, at an expected cost of $1 billion for the year.

By the end of the day its market cap had dropped 3.2 percent, or over $8 billion.

And in April 2017, when American Airlines announced that it had negotiated raises for its pilots and flight attendants, the market punished it with a 5.2 percent share price drop.

Analysts explained their displeasure: "This is frustrating.

Labor is being paid first again.

Shareholders get leftovers." And: "We are troubled by AAL's wealth transfer of nearly $1 billion to its labor groups.".

Today's corporate leaders have received Wall Street's message and seek to stay as "lean" as possible.

Indeed, the median corporation to go public after 2000 had added just 51 jobs globally by 2015, and these often came from acquisitions.

When it comes to employment, evidently small is beautiful.

The Meaning of 'big'.

How we think about corporate size matters.

Big is sometimes linked to better, particularly in business schools and executive suites.

And cities and states pay millions and even billions of dollars to lure "big" companies in hopes that they'll bring jobs and economic growth – which may not turn out to be true for today's megacompanies.

On the flip side, there are people like Teddy Roosevelt, who railed against giant, powerful corporations, arguing that they led to greater inequality, a concentration of wealth and the corruption of politics.

Today we face similar problems: growing inequality, concentrated wealth and shadowy corporate money shaping our politics.

But if we want to tame the giant corporations – as Roosevelt did – we need to have a clear sense of just what "giant" means.

And we need to give up on the idea that corporations that are big in market cap necessarily create jobs.

Jerry Davis, Professor of Management and Sociology, Ross School of Business, University of Michigan.

Arsenal news: Jermaine Jenas reveals why Gunners failed to beat Man City - Duration: 2:27.

The Gunners lost to the Premier League champions on Sunday as they were brushed aside by Pep Guardiola's side 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium

Unai Emery was taking charge of his first game for Arsenal after replacing Arsene Wenger in May

And there was a noticeable difference between the Spaniard's style of play and that seen from his predecessor in recent years

Arsenal were actively trying to play the ball out from the back, while also pressing Manchester City high up the pitch

But Jenas believes the north London outfit have work to do on to master Emery's new style of play

"I like what Unai Emery is trying to achieve," he said on Match of the Day 2. "But I saw too many occasions where there wasn't enough options

"Whether it's the centre-half who's got on the ball and he's going 'well my centre midfielder is marked so where is Henrik Mkhitaryan or Mesut Ozil

' "They need to have at least more than one option. "When Man City do it, you know if you squeeze in on them, you can almost bet that Ederson is just going to drop it into Aguero's chest and they're away anyway

" Emery admitted after the game he wasn't entirely happy with his side's first competitive fixture

However, the former PSG boss sounded confident he could get the best out of his new players

"The first half we didn't play like we wanted," he told reporters. "We spoke at half-time about taking more responsibility for the second half, to do a little more

"We wanted to build with the ball and break their lines. "I think in the second half we played more like we want

" Arsenal face the tough task of playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next time, while City welcome relegation candidates Huddersfield to the Etihad

Diet and Nutrition: What are Macronutrients? - Duration: 7:06.

over the last few days one or two people have mentioned to me about diet and

nutrition and that's have a thing so what I've decided to do with today's

session or there's a little video if you will is to put down on the whiteboard so

the basics about nutrition so that you know when we talk about fats proteins

carbohydrates you actually have a deep understanding of a way you should be

aiming your nutrition or you know if you're traveling your nutrition in a

particular direction at least where you can get those nutrition macronutrients

from what we're going to do is we're going to break the food down first of

all into a few different groups and so you've heard them for the fats proteins

and carbohydrates and I'll basically explain to you what they're actually for

and then I'll go through with each individual one as in where you can

actually get the sources of those know about nutrition from first things first

you've got proteins that's and carbs and those are your three basic

macronutrients okay you've got things like fiber okay fibers not actually

macronutrient it's only digestible okay and and then you've got your

micronutrients which your vitamins in your minerals okay we're not going to be

going through vitamins and minerals today protein very simplistically you

use protein to repair your tissues and you also use it for absorption of a few

of the things but basically proteins are the building blocks of your body so I

was supposed to a client the other day about this and one thing that I was

explained to him that there's that you know he's a fairly sedentary guy he

doesn't do a lot of physical activity through his daily living the only

physical activity he gets is when he actually goes running or he goes to the

gym and he doesn't go to the gym that much that much he's not a gym buff if

he's sitting down behind a desk all day is he going to be using or expelling

that much energy not really not as far as energy goes but his body's still

gonna go through a lot of cellular breakdown he's gonna make just as much

blood as everyone else he's gonna have to repair his skin and repair his bones

and port nutrients into his body for it so his body can actually turn that into

viable material in order to make his the way his body

actually is okay so that's what used proteins for alright so first and

foremost where do we get those from well in my book you've got three main sources

okay so you but your meats and your fish your eggs

you've got some things like some legumes like alfalfa okay pulses that type of

thing okay the thing to remember about those type of sources of protein though

are they're not complete proteins okay they don't give you everything that your

body needs to function alright so if you're if you were living purely on our

falfa you wouldn't get all the different protein molecules you need in order to

build all the building blocks so you'd have to add something else to that to

get those they're called amino acids whereas when you eat your meat your fish

or your eggs you get all the amino acid you already actually needs in order to

make all the other amino acids there's essential amino acids and there's

non-essential amino acids essential amino acids or amino acids that your

body cannot make within its system non-essential you basically have the

others and your body can make the non-essential ones from the others their

necks are your fats now it's a common misconception that fat makes you fat it

is true that if you overeat any calorie okay then you're gonna probably put

weight on okay but there's a big difference in terms of the protec the

calories from proteins the calories from fats and the calories from carbohydrates

okay first and foremost is you can't actually

store protein you either use it or you bin it alright basic goes down the

toilet your fats on the other hand if you don't utilize them you can store

them but typically people don't actually eaten that much fat when you break it

down because there's a misconception of what is actually fat so fats you've got

things like coconut oil and other oils so olive oil and you've got ghee fish

oil as an omega-3 you've got butter and then you've got all your nut butters as

well or your not oils so you can have like peanut butter and then you've got

things like avocado so avocados there they are a couple hydrate but there

they're also quite fatty okay we've got a lot of oil in them last but not least

you've got your carbs so we're gonna split those down into two groups just

because and you'll see why okay so you've got fruit

yes fruit is the cob and you got your veg okay and I'm gonna put a subcategory

here so we're gonna pull the salad because you've got your salad items and

you know it's like a tomato it's an altar is actually a fruit but

people think of it as a vegetable because you goes in salad you bought

your fruit your veg in your salad okay so with your vegetables includes all

your roof edge including potatoes those are why I like to call your fresh

carbohydrates okay and then you've got your refined or your processed

carbohydrates so you've got your greens and your greens things like wheat rice

Oh spelt cereals okay

they're all your greens and then you've got things like your breads your pasta

so all those things are made from grains okay and then you've got the things that

you really wanna be avoiding you've got your sweets and you put your crisps and

you've got your chocolate again those are their carbohydrates but you don't

want to be going after those these are processed carbohydrates or your refined

carbohydrates and then these are your fresh carbohydrates okay

now even though those aren't ideal it doesn't make them bad it doesn't make

them evil okay it's just that you know they have their place they have that

function it's what are you using them for I'm gonna break this down a little

bit more in some of the videos but basically the main takeaway point and

I'm trying to keep this video short because it's easier for you to absorb

little bits of information and then you can find the other bitch you want to see

other videos okay so the main point of this is you know

that's how you break down your proteins your fats and your carbs all right or

your macronutrients so proteins that your meat your fish or eggs your legumes

your fats your coconut oils butter nuts avocados and then you've got your

carbohydrates which was placed into a couple of groups so you've got your

processed grains you've got your fresh

foods and then you've got your your your your danger foods all right your sweets

your chocolate your crisps ice cream that type of thing

okay things that aren't actually that ideal for your body but they can be

useful if you use them the right way

Introducing Conditionals - Duration: 4:48.

In this week's episode of Everyday Grammar, we are going to talk about conditionals.

We use conditionals to show that something is true only when something else is true.

Conditionals offer endless possibilities for creative and imaginative expression.

The present real conditional is the most basic kind of conditional.

Basically, when A happens, B happens.

Here's an example of a present real conditional: "If it rains, I bring an umbrella."

Conditionals have two parts: the if clause: "if it rains," and the result clause: "I bring

an umbrella."

You could also say "I bring an umbrella if it rains."

Poets and songwriters often use conditionals in their work.

Listen for the present real conditional in this song by American songwriter Bob Dylan.

"If you see her, say hello She might be in Tangier"

Notice that the verbs see and say are both in the present tense for the present real

conditional.

The next conditional that we're going to talk about is the present unreal conditional.

Use the present unreal conditional to talk about what you would do in an unreal, or imaginary

situation.

If A happened, B would happen.

For example, "If I were you, I would take the job."

The key word is would; it makes the conditional unreal.

Would can only be used in the result clause of the sentence.

Here's an example from American singer Johnny Cash.

"If I were a carpenter And you were a lady

Would you marry me anyway?

Would you have my baby?"

To form a present unreal conditional, use a simple past verb in the if clause.

In the result clause, use would followed by a simple present verb.

Use the verb were for all nouns in the if clause of the sentence.

For example, "If she were an animal, she would be a cat."

In informal speech, people might say, "If she was an animal, she would be a cat."

But you should avoid this in formal writing.

Now let's talk about the future real conditional.

If A happens, B will happen.

To make a future real conditional, use will in the result clause.

For example, "If your plane is late, I will wait in the car."

Use the future real conditional to talk about possible situations in the future.

Speakers sometimes use the future real conditional to threaten others.

Listen to actor Liam Neeson in the 2013 movie Taken.

In this scene of the movie, Neeson's character is on the phone threatening the man who kidnapped

his daughter.

"If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it.

I will not look for you.

I will not pursue you.

But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

This is only a quick introduction to conditionals.

In a future episode of Everyday Grammar, we will talk about past and mixed conditionals.

Until then, we will leave you with country music stars Johnny Cash and June Carter.

"If I were a carpenter And you were a lady

I'd marry you anyway I'd have your baby"

I'm Jonathan Evans.
