Youtube daily report w Aug 19 2018

The world as we know is vast and yet still much undiscovered

It has so many different beings cultures and feelings with different perspectives of life and today here on FTD facts

We look at a country that has its own unique

Perspectives its unique culture while still being part of the major Arab world and community today

We dive into a country filled with a hard-working people with a history that has helped it grow

To become the powerful nation. It is known as today today

We introduce you to the amazing people culture and country of Oman. Hey everybody. How's it going?

Dave Walpole here and welcome to FTD facts the channel where we look and explore different cultures

communities and countries from around the world

Now today as you can see from the title and from the opening introduction

we are going to be talking about the great country known as

Oman which might be a little different from your country in my country

But we should understand what it's all about

and also throughout this video if you guys are liking it and you want us to talk about

Oman more in the future just hit those like buttons because if we get over

5,000 likes then we generally keep an eye on our videos to do a part two on them, but let's get started

Let's look at the great country of Oman. Now. First of all, we always like to look at population

because as of 2010 which it's the last census was recorded it had approximately

2.7 million people, but since

2016 first of all

The growth rate really has changed

Since then and because of that the 2016 estimate has the population at approximately four million

Four hundred and twenty four thousand seven hundred and sixty-two people making this country ranked actually

125th in the world when it comes to population by the country now some people around the world may have a hard time recognizing or

Identifying where Oman is on a map

But truth be told it shouldn't be that hard because it's actually a really large country as a matter of fact

It's it's at 70th in the world

And when it comes to its land size that equates it to approximately three hundred nine thousand five hundred kilometers

Square and as for its water percentage, which we usually talk about with countries unfortunate

it's negligible because there's not a lot of water within the country now with that if we were to combine the

population with the land size it has a density of

Approximately 15 people per square kilometer and this makes its density ranked at 200 14th in the world

Now you may think that's not a lot, but it's still a growing nation

As a matter of fact its population is really shot up in the last couple of years

So that'll probably change in the future years as well

now one thing that really shook me was the type of government that actually is within Oman and it's actually listed as a

parliament sort of government which I was like what its official title is a

unitary parliament with absolute monarchy basically meaning that it does have a king but in the arab world they call that a sultan and

courtesy of one of our fans Maha Singh Ranger

The Sultan of Oman is Qaboos bin

Saeed Al Sayed who is actually from what I heard is an unmarried ruler

And as for this particular Sultan, he's got a rather interesting history. This is because Qaboos bin Said al Sayyed

Actually overthrew his father say he'd been timer in a coop in 1970

And as of the recording of this video, he's been in power for over 48 years making him one of the longest rulers currently

But of course you can't beat queen elizabeth ii she's got like a lot of years on him

but however

that also makes Qaboos bin Sayed

Al-sayed the longest current ruler in the Middle East now when you think of Oman you may wonder yourself

Well, how is the land actually divided up does it have you know provinces does it have states like the United States?

What do they have that governs regions? Well, believe it or not

Oman actually does have provinces but they don't work the same like they do in countries like say Canada

We're basically like in my country of Canada you have the country and then you have provinces and territories

And then right after that you have counties cities

Towns and stuff like that and for Oman

It's divided into 11 govern orit's and within all the combined govern orit's there's approximately 61

provinces also known as Willa yets

and as for the largest governor in Oman

It is de for having a land size of 99 thousand three hundred square kilometres and as for the largest

Population when it - these governor it's well

it's actually kind of hard to say because there's not really been a

actual from what I hear an official report of all the governorís

But however from the ones that have been the Muscat governor it has approximately 1.5 million people

But this is because this particular governor

It actually is home to Muscat which is the largest city in the entire country

and the only city that is classified as a metro in the entire country as well Muscat is also designated the capital city for

Oman with a population of 1.2 million people as it stretches across a land size of

3500 square kilometers which includes six provinces or cities aka will yes

It should also be noted that

Muscat is one of the oldest major port cities in the entire world and has been established as a major port and

Trading ground since at least to the 1st century

BCE and what I find fascinating is it doesn't just stop there because it even dates

way further back to even the 6th century BCE and this is all due to the discovery and findings of

fishermen burials within the region now one thing that I find very

Fascinating about when we look at different countries from around the world is that we learn that there are different rules. They're different regulations

They're different cultural traditions that other countries might not agree with that

you know exist within those particular nations and one of these rules is the fact that homosexuality is

Considered illegal within the country and on top of that for Oman torture is also considered

Accepted within the country. And the reason for this is keep in mind guys

Some of you guys may not agree with it, but that doesn't mean everybody in Oman is like yeah

We're for this or against it

It's because the salton does make particular rules that some people might agree with some people might not agree with it

So that's kind of the way it is within the country

however

One thing that is a major nono within Oman is that you cannot criticize the salton in any shape or form?

Don't even think of insulting them because you can get in serious trouble for it

And this is such a severe law that historically some people have gotten in trouble for making inappropriate

Tweets about the Sultan and they have faced a fine or even jail time

But however to get around these certain rules that govern protests the people of Oman have done some pretty interesting ways to express their political

disagreements and what people have done within the countries they've actually used

Donkeys as mobile billboards to express their thoughts and emotions as well when it comes to the laws within Oman

It's also important to know that you need permission from the government if you want to marry a visitor now

Of course, if you're outside of the country, you don't really need to get permission from the government

But the downside is is if you marry somebody and you're from the country and you say like went to the United States you married

Somebody if you came back to the country you could get in serious

Trouble and you could not be allowed back into the country as well

But either way guys

Let's move away from some of the negative laws and things like that that are within the country and let's just talk about some other

Interesting facts about Oman itself and one thing when it comes to Oman

it is actually considered a very rich country with a

GDP of one hundred and eighty nine point five eight two billion dollars and a GDP per capita of

Forty six thousand four hundred seventy five dollars making it ranked 66th in the world and to break it down even further

Let's take a look at how this country generates money

Not internally

But through exports the exports of Oman sit at sixty first in the world with twenty seven point one billion dollars

And of course you guessed it oil is one of the biggest things within the country

This is because crude petroleum comes in at forty seven percent of all the exports

There's petroleum gas at nine point eight and refined petroleum at eight point two percent

now the biggest buyers of all this oil is China and of course South Korea and although the United States is a smaller buyer in

2009 they actually signed an agreement to allow free trade within the two countries as for imports

They sit at approximately twenty eight billion dollars ranking 63rd in the world

Now their biggest imports our cars coming at 11%

with approximately

58 percent of that coming from Japan and 11 percent coming from the USA and other places from around the world on top of that

they also have refined petroleum as an import of

7.6% and gold is a big one at 2.1 percent

Now did you know at one point the people from Oman or Oman ease as they're sometimes called?

We're considered the greatest ship builders in the entire world

And of course, they may not have that title today, but historically they were one of the biggest countries to produce ships around approximately

4500 BC

they were known for creating the reed boats to trade between

their country and India and around that time too far was considered a major booming trade port for the country and by the 18th in

The 19th century the people of Oman had become known as the world's best

Shipbuilders now here's a really interesting fact that also came from one of our fans according to Shaw 7-6 8 on Instagram

He said that there is approximately no coca-cola products within the country

Now you may wonder why well, first of all, you can actually get coca-cola within the country

But you got to go to like a very special place for it like a really expensive

swanky hotel because the biggest product within the country is actually Pepsi and as for the most popular drink

Well, that is considered Mountain Dew. This is why I like Oman because I love mountain dew

Oh good. And because mountain dew is the number-one drink that is purchased within the country

It is sometimes referred to as Omani alcohol speaking of alcohol. Can you drink in Oman?

That is a big question that some people ask now if you live in Oman and you want to drink within the country you can

Actually do this but one thing that's unique is you actually have to have a license if you're a tourist

I think that's a little bit of a different story. But one thing for sure is you cannot drink in public

That's a big no-no and for the people who live within the country to get this license

They have to apply at the Royal Oman police

And of course you have to be over 21

But the reason for this license is because alcohol is heavily controlled within the country and ask for a person that lives on Oman

They're not allowed to spend over ten percent of their monthly income on alcohol. So there you have it guys

That is a look at the country known as Oman sure. We probably missed some facts

But hey, if you guys want us to do a part two first of all

let us know some more facts down there in the comments section below and

of course hit the like buttons so we know how many of you guys want to see a future video on top of that if

You guys know more facts that I did miss

You guys can hit me up on Instagram the link for that is in the description box below

And yeah, if I use your fact boom, I'll give you a shout-out in a video because that's how we do

we like to learn with you while teaching you at the same time helps us get a

hands-on sort of kind of actual somebody living within the country perspective of

The countries that we talk about that makes sense

Around the world hit that like button because that's what we do here

But either way you learned a lot about the beautiful and elegant country of Oman a country that not long ago

Didn't even have a single hotel within the country but is now flourished to become a major place of tourism

It is a country that has a unique history and a unique way of doing

Things that may seem strange to the rest of the world

This is the people culture and country of Oman a moving machine with a destiny that will push it beyond its

desolate and sandy deserts

Thanks for watching guys, all right

Why Do Students In Japan Clean Classrooms | Insane Japanese School Rules - Duration: 7:52.

We went looking for strange rules at schools around the world and discovered that at Longhill

High School in the UK the rules are nothing out of the ordinary.

Students aren't allowed to smoke in school, no running in the halls, etc.

But things get stricter when we hear students can't wear jewelry, nor can they use their

phones unless it's break, or lunchtime, and they are in a "Phone Zone."

Westlake high school in New Zealand tells its students they can't have visible tattoos

and they shouldn't bring knives or pornographic material to school.

N.K.

Public School in Jaipur, India, doesn't want its female students to wear fancy ribbons

in their hair- and just in case anyone still owns these things- bringing CDs, VCDs, or

DVDs to school is forbidden.

But as you probably know, the Japanese often do things differently.

Today we'll find out how, in this episode of the Infographics Show: Most Insane Japanese

School Rules.

Respect It's a Japanese custom to show respect,

and that certainly counts in the classroom.

When students greet a teacher they must bow, which isn't really anything unusual if you

know Japan.

But there are unwritten rules, such as students can't sit on tables as that is impolite.

One former English teacher wrote in the Irish Times that you must learn etiquette in Japanese

schools, and that includes using a more formal Japanese when you meet the bigwig, the principal.

He said his students were always courteous and polite and the worst thing he ever had

to deal with was students falling asleep.

This is a far cry from most schools in the west.

No subs In the west students often take advantage

of their substitute teacher, either by not studying or just being a pain in the backside

for the poor sub.

Well, in Japan you will rarely see a substitute teacher.

If a teacher doesn't turn up students are expected to sit quietly and study.

According to some sources, that's exactly what they do.

While not an insane school rule, it certainly seems pretty crazy for most Westerners.

Everyone's a Cleaner In most schools around the world you might

catch a glimpse of the janitors as they arrive after school, but in Japan the students are

expected to get down on their hands and knees and clean.

The Japan Times tells us cleaning or "o-soji" is something all students must do, though

the school still hires professional janitors.

The writer says that while the kids do an ok job, they don't clean so well that you

could eat your lunch off the floor.

The writer, a former teacher in a Japanese school, said student cleaning happened 4 times

a week and each session lasted for 20 minutes.

Student's don't just clean their own class either, but are expected to clean other areas

of the school as well.

Shoes Off A student's cleaning job might not be that

hard, because in Japanese schools you should take your outdoor shoes off and exchange them

for your indoor shoes that you keep in your locker or on a shelf.

It's the same when you go to the gym, you must have a separate pair of indoor gym shoes.

Hmm, that could get expensive.

Get Smart Ok, so many schools have rules about appearance,

but Japan takes it a step further.

It may change from school to school, but one blogger wrote that when she taught in a Japanese

school students had to follow very strict rules regarding how they looked.

It goes without saying that uniforms must be worn, and they must not look ragged- even

when you are wearing your uniform outside of school.

If you are a boy, you cannot have long hair, even in the back- so no mullets!

Girls can't wear scrunchies and hair bands can never be tied around the wrist.

On top of that, no makeup, no hair dye, no nail polish, no colored contacts, no plucked

eyebrows, and definitely no wearing of necklaces, rings, watches, or earrings.

It gets crazier.

In 2017 The Japan Times wrote that one 18-year old girl was suing her school because the

school had threatened her with expulsion if she didn't dye her naturally brown hair

black.

The school thought her natural hair was already dyed.

Don't fall in love One American blogger who worked as a teacher

in a Japanese school said his school banned "romantic involvements."

The Japan Times writes that this was a rule for a long time but it didn't stop Japanese

school kids from dating.

In fact, surveys show that many students were at it.

Sometimes these relationships weren't great, with women's rights organizations saying

a lot of these affairs involved "violence, coercion and restrictions."

One survey found that "27 percent of the female students said they suffered psychological

violence such as verbal abuse."

Maybe dating should be allowed, but teachers and parents should talk to kids about how

it should be done.

No Late Nights In Japan students have curfews, and that usually

means they cannot be outside on the streets after 10pm.

In Tokyo it's 11 pm, and the police will pick you up if you violate curfew.

According to the Japan Times many of the arrests (picked up but not charged) were of foreign

kids that just couldn't follow the rules after coming from countries where staying

out late is a given.

The paper wrote in 2015, "Last year, in karaoke parlors alone, Japanese police picked

up more than 18,000 minors and brought them in for guidance against smoking and staying

out too late."

If you are young and going to Japan, you might want to read up on the rules.

Be on time Arriving late to school in Japan, even by

a couple of minutes, is a much worse offense than it is in most western schools.

Each school has its own rules, but if a student comes late a few times that could mean being

given a week of very early morning cleaning duties.

Sit straight and eat up In Japan lunch is usually served in the classrooms.

And while Japan is famous for serving excellent nutritional food (maybe that's why Japanese

people live so long) students are also made to follow standards of etiquette and are expected

to finish their well-balanced meal.

That's not a rule, but wasting food is looked down on.

One website writes this about lunchtime, "All of the students come prepared for lunch with

reusable chopsticks, a cloth placemat and napkin, a cup, and a toothbrush."

Yep, you have to clean those teeth as well as clean the room.

Overtime Until 1992 students were going to school six

days a week, Monday through Saturday..

The 6-day week was still a thing with some students after 1992, but it wasn't by law.

Japan Today wrote in 2013, "Nationwide, 1,100 elementary (5.7%) and 590 junior high

schools (6.4%) are conducting classes on Saturdays."

However, Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, has

over the last few years been mulling over a reintroduction of the 6-day week for everyone.

Would that suit you?

Get off your phone Throughout Japan most schools will not allow

students to use a phone inside the school.

They can have them and use them outside the school, but certainly not indoors.

Some schools have banned even just bringing phones to school..

One city, Kariya city in Aiichi prefecture, took that a step further, banning any student

under the age of 15 from using a phone after 9pm anywhere in the city.

You'd be in a lot of trouble there if caught out after 10pm taking a selfie of your newly

plucked eyebrows.

Do you think you could live with these rules?

Which would be hardest not to break?

Are they a good thing or a bad thing?

Tell us what you think in the comments, and as always, please don't forget to like,

share and subscribe.

The UNTOLD HISTORY of TIMEX PORTUGAL | Ep. 153 - Duration: 15:45.

Timex arrives in Portugal around 1971, following the same strategy, adopted by many other companies,

to settle where labor was cheap and where the political and economic stability conditions

were gathered.

In Europe, Timex owned factories not only in Portugal but also in Scotland, in France

and in Germany.

Specifically in Portugal, and more precisely in Charneca de Caparica, was the working force

of more than 2000 employees, hired to work daily in the manufacture of mechanical watches

with cutting-edge technology and where was established the most advanced workshop in

Europe that developed machinery for the creation of precision tools, tools that would also

be sent to the other European Timex factories for the production of the brand's aforementioned

mechanical watches that would be, subsequently, exported and sold to the entire world.

April of 1974 came to disrupt the whole political and economic stability.

The "Carnation Revolution", as it became known, gave people the right to claim for better

working conditions, including wage increases, which led to the reduction of the manufacturing

activity to ridiculous numbers until the end of the Decade.

From the more than 2000 workers that Timex Portugal employed 'til then,

only over 30 remained.

And it was also after the 25th of April of 1974 that the company, until then managed

exclusively by Americans and British, was constituted only by a Portuguese board of

directors and when António Gomes was appointed CEO.

Anyway, in the final phase of the Decade, Timex watches were no longer assembled piece

by piece as when the company settled in Portugal in ' 71.

Just needed a final assembly and packaging before being sent to stores.

With the arrival of the new decade, there was also a huge turning point in technology

innovation and that's when the mechanical watch began to be quickly replaced

by electronic models.

Timex, being a company traditionally linked to the mechanical watch, had to adapt to the

new reality, changing all manufacture and assembly to the East, in particular to Thailand

and the Philippines, from where came this whole new reality and innovation and where,

of course, was, now, the new so-called cheap labor.

However, in England, the microcomputer revolution was about to burst.

Clive Sinclair, inventor who in 1972 offered the world its first pocket calculator, was

looking for someone who could help him mass Assembly his latest invention and in which

he was truly confident:

the ZX81, a microcomputer with only 1 KB of memory and the successor of the ZX80.

This partnership between Sinclair Research and Timex Corporation arose after the difficulties

that Sinclair had to satisfy all requests and orders that the ZX80 was target, that

led to waiting lists of several months, simply because it was the cheapest and accessible

microcomputer that the market had ever seen.

So, taking advantage of the euphoria of the consumer around microcomputers and the decreasing

demand for wrist watches, Timex accepts to venture in areas that were not very familiar

to them, as was the case in the pharmaceutical area which, later, turned out to be a disaster,

but it would provide a diversification in their own offer, as well as keep the jobs

of all the employees from the Timex complex in Dundee, composed of 8 factories, that was

the major employer of that area of Scotland.

The company had all the human and technical capacity, large-scale distribution, not only

in the United States, but also throughout Europe, revealing itself as the closest ally

of Clive Sinclair.

In the meanwhile, to stay in business, Timex Portugal was being subcontracted by large

companies, such as Control Data and IBM, for high precision work, as was the case in the

manufacture of printed circuit boards and, later, read heads for hard drives, not only

by having a whole assembly and packaging infrastructure previously installed,

but also for having adequate facilities for that purpose where the dust and unwanted particles wouldn't

penetrate during the more meticulous steps.

In addition to the subcontracting of services by IBM and Control Data, Timex Portugal continued

to provide after-sales service to the business of wrist watches and, circa 1981, employed

approximately 80 people, at a time when the Scottish factory was already manufacturing

the Sinclair ZX81 in large scale.

Timex American headquarters watches closely all this boom of low-cost microcomputers that

was taking place in Europe, and, influenced also by the technological advances that their

neighbors in Silicon Valley showed, eventually embarked on this adventure to bring to the

United States the Sinclair ZX81, in this particular case, the Timex Sinclair 1000 where the only

differences were in the alteration of its own designation, an NTSC signal modulator

for the American market and increasing its memory from 1 KB to 2 KB.

In the heart of Timex Corporation, a healthy competition was held:

where should this alternative model be manufactured?

In Scotland or in Portugal?

As was written in History books, the Portuguese factory eventually won this battle, thanks

to the effort and dedication of António Gomes, as told, CEO of Timex Portugal

since the 25th of April of 1974.

Then, the big challenge would be to produce 500 TS1000 models per day.

The enthusiasm and commitment within the Portuguese Timex organization was such that, at the end

of the first half of 1983, the company had already employed around 1000 workers and,

daily, near 2,000 computers were manufactured, all intended for the American market, along

with the 16K memory modules, known as ram packs.

Anticipating sales for Christmas of ' 83, a peak of production of 10,000 machines

per day was recorded.

However, in the United States, Commodore was adopting an aggressive pricing policy, offering

huge coupon discounts to whoever returned a used computer or console in exchange for

the purchase of one of their more recent machines.

Already at that time, the American market was protecting the consumer, who had the right

to complain and return the product if it wasn't of their liking.

Thus, the TS1000 was returned to stores for several reasons:

memory problems,

overheating,

the programs on tape would not enter at the first try,

the keyboard was not designed for the hands of the Americans, that, on average, are bigger

than those of Europeans,

among many other situations.

Thus, it was imperative to find solutions at a hardware level, that could correct or

mitigate these problems.

In the meanwhile, in Europe, many of these issues were also reported, but, unlike in the United States,

"do it yourself" magazines were sold that proposed, and solved, many of these issues,

teaching and entertaining the end user that would put their own hands to work trying to

rectify those problems in the comfort of their homes.

I must highlight that, by then in Europe, the end user or consumer had virtually no

rights after the purchase.

The solution for the American TS1000 went through a new project:

the TS1500.

This would be based on the ZX Spectrum which, in the meanwhile, had already begun to be

manufactured in Scotland.

Offered 16 KB of memory within an identical ZX Spectrum case, but now in silver, and that also

housed various fixes implemented by American and Portuguese Timex technicians.

Despite all these corrections and innovations, the computers continued to depend on the loading

of programs and games via tape.

So, Timex partnered with Sampo to manufacture a cassette player and recorder – known as

TS2020 – that would be sold alongside with the TS1500 trying to eliminate those annoying

software loading problems.

This set was also marketed in the form of an educational pack, oriented specifically

to teachers, in a carrying case along with an extensive collection of literature and

programs on tape.

Even so, the American market was still not convinced what led to Timex Corporation in

the United States to grab the project themselves developing and designing a new machine, which

was baptized as TS2068 and arriving to stores in November of 1983.

Had 72 KB of memory, bigger and more entertainment-oriented, with a cartridge slot

instead of the traditional tape player and recorder.

At the same time, mostly for the Portuguese and Polish markets and fully developed in

Portugal, the TC2048 project emerged.

This was the direct rival of the extremely popular ZX Spectrum, which was also sold in

the country by this time and based on the TS2068 created exclusively

for the United States.

I must also highlight that all development around the TC2048 contemplated the manufacture

and supply by several Portuguese companies not only for the integrated circuits, but

also for the molds for the cases, for the membranes

and for the metallic insulating paints.

But the biggest problem remained:

the loading of programs and games continued to be carried out

using the temperamental tapes.

So, Timex Portugal started the development of a floppy disk interface and operating system,

the TOS.

This new equipment was named Timex FDD and presented in 3 separate boxes:

the power supply, the controller and the floppy drive,

leading to many of its users to name it as FDD3, a fairly advanced system in relation

to the microdrives that, by that time, had already been presented in the UK by

Clive Sinclair as a solution for the replacement of the traditional tapes.

The microdrives were also tapes, but in a micro-format and, by the way, still very unpredictable.

Timex Portugal had thus developed a more advanced, fast and safe form of reading software, innovating

and leading the project further with the creation, in partnership with the INESC (Portuguese

Institute of Systems' Engineering and Computers), a second version of their floppy drive unit.

The new model, named FDD3000, was now confined to a single box where, in addition to the

controller and power supply, were available not one, but two floppy drives.

Was nothing more than another computer with a Z80 processor running at 4 MHz, connected

to the TC2048 expanding the processing power and memory, since it offered 64 KB of RAM and

the already mentioned 3 inch floppy.

In Portugal there were also those who dedicated themselves to create programs and games for

these machines, in universities and in the comfort of their own bedrooms, not as evident

as in England or in Spain.

Some classics emerged, such as Paradise Café or Alien Evolution, the latter quite cherished

by the English press.

Others failed to succeed, just like City Connection of Manuel Lemos, Ricardo Pinho

and Paulo Gordinho, based on the popular arcade machine and that, unfortunately, failed to

attract the attention of publishers like Ocean Software.

The little media exposure they got was in the TV show "Ponto por Ponto", hosted

by Raul Durão, that, weekly, included a small 5-minute section related to "Computer Games"

led by Paulo Dimas.

In mid-80s, the supremacy of the IBM PCs and compatibles, as well as the 16-Bit computers

from Commodore and Atari, was such that Timex and Sinclair microcomputers could not keep

up in any way.

And, of course, by the end of the decade, the video games' related market was also,

and already, flooded by Sega and Nintendo products.

Rumor has it that around 1991, at the time of Margaret Thatcher's visit to Portugal,

she convinced the then Prime Minister Cavaco Silva to move the whole operation

of Timex Portugal to Scotland.

The factory was already in a halt since 1989 and all the Portuguese know-how and technology

were eventually offered to the Scottish manufacturing complex of Dundee, so that jobs could be kept.

The remaining stock of the TC2068 model was sold to Argentina.

In relation to the employees of Timex Portugal, needless to say that

they all ended up without their jobs.

Not being a Portuguese brand, Timex was responsible for the awakening of interest for computers

in that country, because it introduced on the market low-priced personal computers that,

around 1985,

"attained an internal volume of more than 150,000 units, one of the highest penetration

rates per family in Europe ".

A whole new Portuguese industry was generated thanks to Timex, which contributed greatly

to the creation of a national culture and adherence to a brand-new technological world

that continues to unite an entire generation that, since then, follows the evolution of

this amazing world, because, believe it or not, video games were the biggest drivers

of the tremendous sales success of the ZX Spectrum and the Timex Computer 2048 in Portugal.

More Than 10 Incredible Facts About Oman - Duration: 12:30.

I hope it did but on top of that guys if its first time here and you like learning about different cultures and things from

Thanks for watching guys, all right

so by the way

Here's some other videos for you guys to check out because we got some really awesome stuff that you guys will like trust me

I'm Destashing Fabric + Sewing Supplies - GARAGE SALE TIME! | SEWING REPORT - Duration: 9:44.

so I think I've come up with a creative way to destash some of my fabric and

sewing supplies

welcome to the sewing Report I'm Jennifer Moore helping you discover your

love of sewing crafts and DIY projects and I am going to be liquidating quite a

few of my sewing supplies of my fabric and I want you to be involved if you

live in the Tampa st. Petersburg Clearwater area I'm going to be

attending sort of a garage sale and I'm going to be destashing like a major D

stash a lot of the stuff I have so I've talked to you guys in this channel

before about not owning too much fabric about not buying fabric I'm on a

year-long self-imposed fabric ban which I know is like next to impossible for a

Sohus and when you're a crafter like a maker you tend to really horrid supplies

so I've decided that before we move again we're probably gonna be moving

again in about six months I wanted to try to kind of pare down my collection

so that the next move isn't as bad because when the moving guy is telling

you that you have too much cramp you have too much crap so here's what I'm

doing and if you live in the area you can get in on the action so I went to a

store called whim so doodle it's in downtown st. Petersburg it's a really

really adorable and very en Point local like it's sort of like a quilt shop in

like a crafts and stationery store all rolled into one

the space is super cute and there is a dog that's the greeter like seriously

they have a really awesome dog named Doug that greets people at the door and

he's so awesome I can't even tell you so I was at the store and I saw that they

were having this garage sale so every year they invite people to sign up for a

table and when you do that you can come on this Saturday so it's Saturday

September 8th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and it lets people you know you can set

up your table everyone's in one space and then it's open to the public and

people are selling their new gently you craft supplies and other types of things

of things of that nature so I decided that might be a good idea for me so I

did a D stash event a while back that quite a few of you seem to enjoy and

participate in but you know one thing about it is that you have you spend so

much money on postage and it's kind of a pain to you know wrap everything up and

Mail it off so I thought an in-person event might be better so I have signed

up for an indoor table and I've decided I'm going to be packaging up a lot of

the fabric I have a lot of the supplies and I'm going to be liquidating in it at

very reasonable prices so basically I was told that a lot of the people that

are there tend to sell things for you know a lot less than they purchased them

for again you're trying to dstyle so maybe help other makers out there people

who are just getting started by giving them a chance to pick up supplies at a

very low price so I thought you know what that sounded like a great idea so I

have signed up and I'm gonna be there and I talked to whims so doodle and

they're gonna let me bla vlog this event so I'm gonna be bringing my camera gear

and doing sort of a vlog about the experience you know see if I actually am

able to offload some of this stuff and I'm also gonna have some extra surprises

if you do come I want to try to make this fun maybe throw some extras in the

bag so I want to talk about what kind of items will be at this garage sale and

this is kind of good for me because I don't really like I don't like the idea

of organizing my own garage sale but since they're doing it for everybody I

thought that sounded cool and they seemed very open to the idea be vlogging

and they were very excited about it so I will be at whim so doodle in downtown

st. Petersburg on Saturday September 8th I'm gonna try to get there a little

early get everything set up so between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. if you would like to

come shop some of my sewing and craft supplies meet me hang out we can take

selfies we can do whatever you want I will be there so I'm gonna put all the

information in the description box and also talk about what I will have so of

course I'm gonna have lots of fabric so if it will be like this is actually I

think these are yard yard cuts or half yard cuts I think they might be half

yard cuts so I'm gonna have some bundles some of my extra fabric like all yardage

none of this has been used some of the garment fabric maybe pre-washed but it

won't be at all you know use basically I basically I did the pre washing for you

so if you're interested in that sort of stuff that's what will be there I'm

gonna have quilting cotton maybe some garment fabric I'm not exactly sure yet

but I need to go through all of my my hoarding stash and figure out what I'm

gonna take to the garage sale there will also be purse hardware for some reason

every time you buy purse hardware you you know if you're buying it from Etsy

or something you end up buying like fifty of something when you only need

like two so I've got a lot of stuff like you know like d-rings rectangular rings

oh I've got zipper so I'll bring some zippers lots of this type of stuff lots

of like lobster or hooks also I will have plenty of this so you're maybe

wondering what what the hell is this big role this is called stiffy and it is a

much cheaper alternative to peltex so it's a very firm so in stabilizer

stabilizer and I have used this quite a bit but it was much cheaper to buy it by

the 35-yard roll than it is to like buy it by the yard at Joanns

so of course I don't need 35 yards so I'm going to be dividing this up maybe

and like maybe in like two yard sections and then if you want you can purchase

just like two yards of this you don't have to you don't have to go to the

stiffy website it's made by like a place in like North Carolina and you don't

have to do that you can just do this and buy a little bit at a time I'm not

exactly sure what my prices will be yet but I'm gonna try to make everything you

know vary let's just say liquidation and garage sale friendly so I still have to

work that out you need to get some like price stickers some bags all that other

stuff but I'm kind of excited cuz mom when I was a kid my mom used to have a

lot of garage sales and I always found that fun so if you want to come Saturday

September 8th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. bring cash I don't have like a credit

card swiper of course cuz I don't usually sell stuff I will have some

change but make sure to bring plenty of cash if you are coming there's also

gonna be a lot of other people there selling other craft supplies so it's a

good chance if you want to try to pick up some craft supplies fabric sewing

supplies at great prices you can also look around the store of course they

sell a lot of cool things there and yes just that store was amazing I spent like

two hours just wandering around so if you haven't come yet if you haven't

checked it out it's definitely a great time to do that also on a side note

street parking in downtown st. Petersburg is free on the weekends so

another reason to come right so I'm going to be

yes dividing all this stuff up figuring out what I'm gonna bring oh yes in this

bag so a few years ago I bought this like cotton webbing for like purses and

stuff so these are like I think these are one in these are like one and a

quarter inches wide and they're one yard I think each one is like one yard so

it's like 3 feet long or something by you know one and a quarter inches and I

bought this to use for bags but like I had to buy like 50 of these in like

different colors so you see what I'm talking about with the supplies like

it's just so easy to go overboard with this stuff it's not even funny so that's

why I've decided to attend this garage sale I think it'll be a lot of fun but

if you want to come hang out with me shop my D stash event that is where I

will be on September 8th so this is just a quick announcement to share that all

with you ona again put all the information down in the description box

and I really hope to see everybody there I'm kind of excited I've been wanting to

do some sort of meet up or get people a chance so we can all hang out so this is

it and if you want to do that you know we can chat if you also want to be in

the vlog your I'd be more than happy to put put you in if you show up and if

you're cool with being in the vlog you can certainly do that but I'm really

excited about trying to get involved in it kimete 1 get involved in a community

event I think this

supporting small businesses is good and I'm excited to get involved in this so

and also hopefully meet some of the sewing report viewers in person so if

you're there definitely say hi we can take a picture we can do whatever you

want but and if you want to buy some stiffy or anything else I've got going

on bring cash bring yourself and I hope to see you there anyways thank you for

watching and if you enjoy this video be sure to hit that like button and

subscribe to the sewing report for everything sewing crafts and DIY

projects I'll see you on September 8th

you

Is Xi Jinping HOLDING BACK Chinese EXPANSION? - VisualPolitik EN - Duration: 12:29.

China has starred in what has been the greatest economic revolution in the history of mankind.

However, in spite of this, in 2017, both Moody's and Standard and Poor's, 2 of the 3 main rating

agencies, reduced the Chinese debt's rating.

For its part, the International Monetary Fund itself has been issuing warnings on this for

months...

Yes, the Chinese economy is growing strongly, but... that doesn't mean that everything

is going well... not at all.

In recent years, - as we've already discussed in a video I will leave at the end with a

description – China's economy has seen one parameter soar exponentially: corporate debt.

And this isn't small news…

Chinese corporate debt accounts for almost 170% of China's GDP.

To give you an idea of what this means, we could say that this 170% GDP level is one

of the highest on the planet... and is, for example, twice that of the United States.

But... some of you may be wondering... if the Chinese economy seems to be doing so well...

How did its companies accumulate such a huge debt?

Well... the truth is that in recent years Chinese companies have gone on a kind of spending

spree all over the world... they have bought everything... foreign companies, ports, airports,

mines, railways... even soccer teams.

The Chinese "invasion" seemed unstoppable... and that's precisely what caused so many

countries to develop an aggressive discourse against this kind of occupation...

And, not only that, as the Chinese have begun investing in the poorest countries – as

in Africa – many analysts, journalists and activists have accused Beijing of practicing

a kind of colonialism.

And, beware, this phenomenon is quite widespread: companies, investors, entrepreneurs, government

institutions... it doesn't matter...

In recent years the obsession to get money out of China has been shared, practically,

by every person in the Chinese economy.

Surely some of you are thinking...

Chinese people buying all kinds of things all over the world?

People in Beijing must be rubbing their hands together...

Well... the truth is that no, nothing could be further from the truth, in fact throughout

the last year Xi Jinping's government has launched many measures to stop this process...

One moment--the Beijing government wants to stop this Chinese purchase wave?

Don't they want to take over the world?

Well... it's not that they don't want to... but they have their reasons.

Listen up.

(THE OTHER FACE OF CHINESE INVESTMENT)

Imagine we want to invest abroad.

As you can imagine, we can do it in many different ways:

For example, we can buy debt from a foreign government, from a foreign company, from a

foreign bank; we can also buy shares in another country's stock market...

But we can also carry out what is known as Foreign Direct Investment... that is... buy

a local company, open a store, a factory, a workshop, etc., etcetera.

In other words, invest in a real asset in the field.

Well, obviously a direct foreign investment... implies a greater degree of complexity and

greater risk, which is why it's expected to generate greater profitability.

Of course, if it weren't, there would be no incentive to implement them... after all,

it's infinitely easier to buy financial assets while sitting in front of a computer

at the office or, even, at home.

Well... the fact is that, paradoxically... as this type of investment has grown in recent

years, its profitability has plummeted...

According to China's state currency administration, the rate of return, this type of investment's

profitability, dropped to barely 0.4% in 2016....

All despite the fact that almost every stock market was skyrocketing.

Therefore, in spite of the colonialism accusations... the truth is that many of the Chinese investment

projects are working so badly that they're more of a headache than the business of

the century.

Now, you may be thinking... but Simon...

Where's the problem?...

Just making too little money?

Well, dear viewers… according to what we learned on corporate debt...

Yes, it is.

A large part of this huge international expansion was financed with debt... debt that, of course,

must be repaid with interest... and if the investments failed or didn't generate the

expected returns...

it could generate a huge solvency problem... which would obviously seriously affect the

Chinese financial system, which belongs fundamentally to the government.

Let's take, for example, the Sinohydro and China Railway Engineering Corporation case,

two engineering and construction companies owned by the Chinese government.

See, in 2007, they reached a huge agreement with the Congolese government.

In exchange for a concession to exploit copper, they committed to investing 9 billion dollars

in the African country, 3 billion in the mine and 6 billion in infrastructure.

Two government-owned companies that had nothing to do with mining and were entirely financed

by a Chinese government-owned bank.

Well, do you know what has happened since then?

These Chinese companies have already invested more than 2 billion dollars and so far everything

has been a problem... the price of copper fell, the reserves weren't as big as expected,

the logistical costs were very high...

Because they hadn't even guaranteed their power supply...

And of course, all that meant many more costs and many delays.

Only 9 years later, in 2016, they were able to start extracting copper... in much lower

quantities than expected...

So, whatever the future holds, the reality is that during the last decade this agreement...

was a big headache... and a great source of losses.

And don't think that this project was an exception, the truth is that in recent years,

Chinese companies, government-owned and private companies, alike, have gotten into serious

debt buying all kinds of assets without caring about the price.

But that's not all.

In addition, all these investments mean capital leaving the country... at such a high rate

that between 2011 and the beginning of 2017, Chinese currency reserves plummeted by a trillion

dollars...

And that, my friends, is a lot, a lot of money.

And it's something that goes in the opposite direction of what Beijing wants, which in

recent years tried to strengthen the Yuan.

Now...

Why are Chinese investors so eager to get money out of the country?

And, why do they seem so surprisingly bad when it comes to investing abroad?

Listen up.

(THE BAD INCENTIVES)

Folks, the fact that Chinese investors seem so incompetent when it comes to investing

abroad is a matter of incentives and bureaucracy.

See... the main priority for the Chinese who managed to make money, is to transfer part

of their assets abroad...

Why?

Well... it's fundamentally a matter of legal safety.

Allow me to explain: As you know China is a dictatorship... and that means that if tomorrow

you have a problem with political power... your money could disappear... and not only

that... as in any dictatorship... there are many restrictions... because if things go

wrong, what could be better than having part of your patrimony protected in other countries?

Seems sensible, right?

I'd certainly do it.

Wouldn't you?.

Well, that's one of the explanations for why so many Chinese businessmen wanted to

invest their money as quickly as possible, even if that meant paying a premium, a surcharge...

But that isn't the only reason.

Additionally, in recent years, since 2008, the Chinese government promoted easy and cheap

credit as a mechanism to boost the economy...

And, of course, when you can get into debt under such favorable conditions... you won't

be as demanding when selecting which projects to invest in.

Yes, this is one of the big problems with expansive monetary policies.

They encourage bad investments that later... are hard to pay off.

But... just a moment...

The entities most responsible for the huge slab of corporate debt that we've talked

about… have been not private companies... but state owned ones.

And this... though surprising, also has a lot to do with incentives…

See, investing outside of the country in large amounts meant that managers could puff up

their chests before the Beijing government due to the huge growth that their companies

had achieved.

On the other hand it meant many of these managers could move to another country and charge a

lot of money.

Let's say that their interests are different from those of their companies.

And, of course, if business was done in countries as complicated as Africa... it was also easier

to take a slice, set out their hand, get a commission.

In addition, Chinese state-owned companies have huge bureaucratic structures... which

makes decision-making and adapting to any changes that may occur very, very slow.

Yes, state-owned companies tend to be much more inefficient.

Well... that's what Xi Jinping wants to face... while trying to consolidate his power.

(THE DANGEROUS GAME)

An important point: this huge shopping maelstrom -which is often done without too much thought-

also happened in Japan in the 80s, that is, before the great crisis of the early 90s.

And in Beijing they're terrified that something similar will happen to them...

So, what do you think they did?

Well... they introduced a lot of restrictions on foreign investments... in such a way...

that now the Chinese government can veto corporate operations abroad for Chinese companies....

even if they are carried out by private companies.

And this... has a double intention because in addition to cooling the foreign investment

process... it also strongly reinforces Xi Jinping's political power.

Let's say that with this excuse, the Chinese government has taken an enormous mechanism

out of its sleeve to reward friends and punish the less loyal.

In addition, with the excuse of increasing control...

Beijing is also promoting the merging of government-owned companies – which until now worked autonomously

– to create huge corporations.... that give Beijing even more power.

Of course, all these actions... can weigh on the growth of Chinese companies, decrease

competition and increase the bureaucracy and inefficiency with which the Chinese public

sector operates.

But, yes, Xi Jinping will get even more power.

China has many strengths, but this is one of its great weaknesses.

Even so, Chinese savings are so high... that it seems difficult to reproduce a financial

crisis like the one Japan experienced... but the risk still exists.

Now it's your turn.

Do you think that Xi Jinping's ambition will end up hurting China?

Leave your answer in the comments as well as the survey.

Man Utd chief Ed Woodward pictured ANGRY in stands seconds after final whistle at Brighton - Duration: 3:37.

Woodward, the man tasked who failed to bring in any of Jose Mourinho's transfer targets, was in the stands at the Amex to see United go down to a 3-2 defeat

Sky Sports cameras panned to him in the stands at full-time and Woodward looked visibly angry

Wearing a Manchester United club suit and tie, Woodward could be seen slumped back in his chair while pursing his lips

As the Woodward images were broadcast on Sky Sports, commentator Martin Tyler said: "Manchester United have some sorting out to do with the personnel they have

"He was the man in charge of bringing players in before the window was shut. "You know form Jose Mourinho he didn't get what he wanted and you could see that today

" Brighton stunned a lacklustre United with two early goals through Glenn Murray and Shane Duffy

Romelu Lukaku halved the deficit before the break before Pascal Gross, after being scythed down by Eric Bailly, restored the two-goal lead from the spot

Paul Pogba scored a late consolation penalty in second-half injury time but it was too little too late

Appearing on Sky Sports alongside Tyler, United legend Gary Neville said: "Manchester United were poor on the ball and poor off the ball

"They weren't good enough in attack but the back four, especially in the first half, melted

"You can't melt away from home in the Premier League. You have to stand up strong

"Deep down Jose Mourinho will know he wanted men of authority and leadership at the centre of his defence and he doesn't feel he's got them

" Mourinho was desperate to bring in reinforcements this summer and he handed Woodward a list of defensive targets

Jerome Boateng, Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and Yerry Mina were all on it but United couldn't get any deals over the line

United's performance was slammed by fans on social media with some dubbing it the 'worst ever'

But Brighton were well worth the three points and their showing was praised by former Premier League defender Matt Upson

"I can't talk highly enough of Brighton. We can see the negatives in Man United but game management across the board was great from Brighton," he told the BBC

"In every position they made great choices. They did what they needed to do to win this game

Congratulations to them. "You have to single Glenn Murray out as man of the match

Anthony Knockaert and Solly March have had good games, but in terms of game management you won't see a better performance

Newspaper Headline From 1912 Warns About Fossil Fuel Burning And Climate Change - Duration: 4:23.

With 24 hour cable news networks, and Twitter out there pushing news stories on us daily,

news stories here in the United States and really across the globe really have a very

short lifespan.

Except, of course, for some of the more important ones.

In that case, they can live on for a day or two, but then everybody moves on.

And that's why this week when a news story from the year 1912 resurfaced, it became such

a big deal.

And what happened was that in March of 1912, Popular Mechanics warned us here in the United

States that the increased burning of coal for energy consumption was increasing the

amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, and that build-up of CO2 would create a warming effect

for this planet.

Now, that article said they weren't too worried about it right now, but that this seriously

could impact future generations.

This was 1912, 106 years ago.

Scientists telling us, "Hey, burning of fossil fuels releases more CO2 into the atmosphere,

which warms the planet."

And, yeah, at the time, they didn't think it was that big of a deal for them.

Maybe something far off generations would have to deal with.

Well, guess what, folks?

We are those far off generations.

But we've known that, right?

I mean, we've actually had evidence starting back in the 1850s that scientists had actually

linked increased carbon emissions to a warming effect.

So since the 1850s, but this one here in 1912 ... First published real report of it that

we have that was available to the masses.

Popular Mechanics also wrote stories about this 1912, 1930, 1940, 1957, 1964, and 1988,

and so on, and so forth since then.

But that 1912 to 1964 period was before the public even really knew about this, before

scientists were looking at this with any kind of intensity.

We had been given multiple warnings.

They told us the cause, they told us the effect, they told us what was happening, and we still

did nothing as a country.

And today, for the most part, we still do nothing as a country.

In fact, as dumb as it sounds, almost 170 years after scientists first linked increased

CO2 to a warming planet, we're still as a country debating whether or not that's even

accurate.

Something that the scientific community has known for over 170 years, and yet we still

have to have debates about whether or not that's true.

Is it real, is it not?

Most of the scientific research on it says 100% it is, and that we're making it worse.

Less than three percent doesn't say that, and you can pretty much track all the funding

for that less than three percent back to the fossil fuel industry.

So, yeah, I think it's time that we do something about this problem considering that we've

been being warned about it since at least now verifiably 1912.

Those talking points coming from the industry-funded politicians, and think tanks, and media pundits

are absolutely bogus.

Climate change is real.

The burning of fossil fuels makes it worse.

Human activity is making it worse.

There are alternatives available; we're just refusing to invest in them as a country at

a time when other countries in the world might still be burning fossil fuels, but they're

trying to figure out a way to kick that habit as soon as possible because they accept it.

They understand it.

They believe that science is, in fact, real, but here in the United States, not only are

we pulling out federal investments from renewable energy projects, but we're also still debating

the accuracy of science.

That is how far behind we are the rest of the world on the issue of climate change,

even after being warned about it more than 100 years ago.

Op één of andere manier zeggen we dag tegen FOMO, fear of missing out, en verwelkomen we heel graag JOMO: joy of missing out

Is iets missen leuk?   Heel simpel: ja, iets missen is leuk.

Taco Bell® | Double Cheesy Gordita Crunch | Food Review! 🌮🔔🧀 - Duration: 4:26.

welcome to peep this out reviews with Ian K

stay frosty Taco Bell gets the spotlight for today's review as they introduce a

limited edition upgrade to a classic menu favorite and while the name of it

seems a little misleading to me it still looks pretty tasty

so let's have a look at this limited edition double cheesy gordita crunch and

as you guys can see this is pretty much the standard Taco Bell Taco here we've

got the seasoned ground beef on the bottom a little spicy ranch thrown in

for good measure we've got some lettuce some cheese and that's actually nestled

into a piece of flatbread here that is separated with supposedly a three-cheese

blend but as you can see we've got more seasoned ground beef on the outside of

the taco shell here guys so they're adding a double portion of that goodness

to go with the cheese that's supposed to be there as well looks like there's

really not too much cheese actually but it is beefy so let's see if this one

actually delivers the overall flavor it's a very "carby" looking situation

here guys this is the all new limited edition double cheesy gordita crunch

from Taco Bell let's peep out this flavor yeah it's been a minute since

I've had one of these but it definitely feels pretty thick and it looks

absolutely stacked here we go you definitely stacked well as expected it's

just like I remember all the classic Taco Bell flavors with a little bit of

that spicy ranch thrown in for additional flavor on this one guys it's

got some nice crunchy and soft texture with this one it's really the signature

of what this is the crunchiness of the taco shell and that flatbread on the

outside it's a little reminiscent of the double stacked tacos believe it or not I'm

getting a lot of that type of "carby" feel with a little bit of the crunch

on the inside of this but honestly the extra beef does make a difference with

this one because you are getting a lot more of that hearty beefy goodness that

any fan of taco bell would enjoy but on the real when I heard this was actually

gonna be called a double cheesy gordita crunch I actually thought it was gonna

be a lot more cheese in it not meat I mean double cheesy to me sounds like it's

gonna be like a hyper quesarito or something like that with a lot more

cheese thrown into the mix but this is tasty for what it is guys but very very

familiar now the reason I don't really get gorditas as often over here at Taco

Bell is for this very reason alone as you can see and like I mentioned earlier

it's a very "carby" situation so while I do like the flatbread on the outside

because they've used this on other products in the past I'm not really a

super fan of how much it adds to the overall taco with this one but it is

pretty tasty you do get a nice layer of extra meat in between that hard shell

and the flatbread so it is pretty good in that regard

and hey the spicy ranch is always a plus so honestly because this one is actually

one of the first times they're altering the gordita to give you what you see

here right now I'm really hoping they do something else

in the future I'd love to see a lava sauce version of this or something with

a little bit more heat because the opportunity is absolutely there and guys

you can pretty much add anything to the outside of that taco shell to really

make this quote-unquote brand new but again it is Taco Bell and they're very

much used to recycling what they've got and what they do they do pretty well one

more quick shot just to round this one out and as mentioned earlier this is all

the familiar Taco Bell flavors that you already know wrapped up in a pretty nice

piece of flatbread here guys it actually holds everything together nicely with an

extra portion of beef not cheese I was really looking forward to that but like

I said what they do they do well and this is actually pretty tasty for what

it is and definitely a satisfying bite and hey just between you and me I think

the limited edition tagline for this is just a little much maybe if the outside

flatbread was a different color that would be truly limited but guys it's

just a little extra beef added to what they already have that's pretty much it

so with that said I'm gonna have to give the double cheesy gordita crunch here at

Taco Bell just an OK 7 out of 10 this is a pretty minor upgrade to an existing

item on the Taco Bell menu that you may either love or at least like but if

there's one thing I can tell you right now it is most definitely a hearty bite

when you bite into it it's got more of that beefy goodness that you may already

love to begin with and the fact that you can get it with at least two other items

and a drink in a box for pretty much like five bucks that's not a bad deal at all

and you should be pretty full after that but hey as always that's just my opinion

what do you guys think is this truly a limited edition upgrade to the gordita

or are you really thinking this should be something a little bit more grandiose

if you will drop those comments down below and definitely let me know and

with that this is Ian K closing out another episode of peep this out

bringing you brand new content every single week here on my channel so while

you stay tuned for the next review coming real soon in the meantime stay

frosty limited edition only because it's the first-ever change to the classic

gordita even if it's just a little one alright guys until next time I'll talk

to you soon

Visualizing DNA in Virtual Reality - Duration: 5:11.

hey guys I wanted to show you some more stuff with nanome today, this is a very

useful tool for visualizing molecules and proteins and things so let's go

ahead to RCSB database and let's type in 1bna, what could that be?

let's take a look upload it and so we've got some DNA specifically this is a

dodecamer of B-DNA which means we're looking at 12 base pairs of DNA so i

wanted to show you this because you know in biochemistry and biology we talk

about DNA a lot but we're usually using some kind of reductive model some way of

visualizing it it's not so accurate but you know we really want to get in here

and and look at DNA and see all the atoms and see all the covalent bonds and

all the functional groups and you know just really make sense of it and walk

through here so we can pull ourselves right through this this helix and now I

want to show you some different ways to visualize it because there's a lot of

stuff going on we see all these these red spheres those are water molecules so

the hydrogens are implied but that can sort of cloud what what we're looking at

it's important to know they're there because they are interacting with the

phosphate backbone but we can get rid of those and now that's a little bit

clearer and what else can we do to see this a little more clearly we see this

the green ribbon here is meant to represent the phosphate backbone but

it's a little bit in the way so we can even toggle that let's get rid of that

ribbon and now we're really just seeing the atoms the atoms and the bonds and

this is this is a good way to visualize DNA this is more representative of what

DNA looks like then some of the pictures we typically see in textbooks or when

we're you know trying to talk about something else and we can look at this

in a few different ways we can use van der waals view and here we can we can

very clearly see the the phosphate backbone with this space-filling model

and that's wrapped around the side and then we've got these base pairs in the

middle with all those blue nitrogen atoms and we can look at this in a stick

view as well or a wire you and these are just different ways of

representing the molecule all of which are useful in their own ways again if we

look at this maybe from the top here we can see all of the base pairs in the

center there and the phosphate backbone wrapped around but let's go back to

ball-and-stick that is I find to be kind of the best way to look at these and so

there it is there's DNA without the the green ribbon and the waters and let's

really get in here now let's look we want to take a look at these base pairs

can remember the base pairing that's very important to understand in terms of

DNA's functionality and so here's a base pair we can climb up the ladder rung by

rung so to speak now here's another base pair and as

we're turning around we can keep climbing up this spiral and so let's

look at this we've got a we've got a guanine over here on the right and we've

got a cytosine over here on the left and this is gonna make three hydrogen bonds

and we can really see these quite clearly now the hydrogens are implied

but there's three here and we can even measure the distances here we can

measure the distances between the base pairs at each locus here each atom so

there's an NH to the carbonyl there's one of those nitrogen's has a hydrogen

and then here's another NH to a carbonyl so those are the three H bonds that are

made by a CG base pair and we can go ahead and look let's hunt for an AT pair

now let's see if we can find an adenine thymine so let's go ahead and move up

this up this thing here and okay looks like looks like there's one right here

so let's zoom in now we've got we've got adenine and thymine there and this one

is going to make two hydrogen bonds so we can we can get the distances there as

well and that's why AT pairs are a little bit weaker a little bit easier to

pry apart with AT pairs they only make 2 H-bonds instead of three and let's keep

climbing up the ladder and here we are at the very top of our dodecamer so

that's only 12 base pairs recall that in an you know in your

chromosomes we've got DNA molecules with billions and

billions of base pairs so that's it I just wanted to show you a little bit

about DNA and stay tuned as I show you more molecules over time

But the biggest problem remained:

the loading of programs and games continued to be carried out

using the temperamental tapes.

Man United fans think they know who was really to blame for Brighton's third goal - Duration: 3:01.

Brighton pulled off a shock 3-2 win over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils found themselves 2-0 down within 27 minutes after quickfire goals from Glenn Murray and Shane Duffy

Romelu Lukaku quickly pulled one back from close range but Jose Mourinho's side were unable to produce a comeback

Ivorian defender Eric Bailly gifted the Seagulls a penalty and Pascal Gross beat David De Gea to restore Brighton's two-goal lead on the stroke of half-time

It was a disastrous day for Man United, despite Paul Pogba pulling one back in stoppage time

That's because rivals Manchester City thrashed Huddersfield Town 6-1 earlier on Sunday afternoon

Man United fans - as well as Gary Neville on commentary - rightly criticised Bailly for his rash challenge which handed Brighton a penalty

"It's really poor from Bailly, it's so poor," said Neville on Sky Sport."Jose will hate what he's seeing

All of them [the defenders] dive in, every single one of them.He will be absolutely fuming

" But plenty of United fans on social media were pointing the finger of blame at De Gea

The Spanish goalkeeper chipped a difficult pass to Fred in Man United's own half and the Brazilian was immediately dispossessed, leading to Bailly's mistake seconds later

De Gea won Man United's Player of the Season award in May but struggled with Spain at the 2018 World Cup

He's widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world - but even he is not spared from criticism

Before the Brighton defeat, Mourinho had confirmed rumours that De Gea is close to signing a new contract at Old Trafford

"David is a Manchester United player. He will sign a new contract as soon as possible

He likes it here."I think it was a collective situation involving the player, the agent and Manchester United

The agent didn't create a war to try to achieve his objectives."He respected the club
