Kirsty: Hi everybody, I'm Kirsty Meakin from Naio Nails. In this video we are going to do a Bird Box challenge.
Kirsty: That'd be a bit messy. Adam: Shouldn't you've done that with the blindfold on?
Kirsty: We're not doing that bit. We're not doing the entry with a blindfold on. Come on now. I'm inside the house...
Adam: Alright, okay. Kirsty: ...and none of the nasty demon things can get me.
Kirsty: Okay... Adam: Alright!
Kirsty: This is gonna be fun.
Kirsty: We're using a piece of velvet. Adam: Because you would, wouldn't you?
Kirsty: Oh, yes, darling Mr. Grey.
Oh my God! This is so uncomfortable.
[Bird Box Movie clip playing]
Kirsty: Right! So, hold on. Where are we? So, there's the nail and then what I need to do is...
Kirsty:[laughs] I'm already finding this really difficult. Adam: Oh! Don't laugh too loud.
Kirsty: Right! I need to now get some acrylic. Adam: Oh!
Kirsty: That's not acrylic.
Kirsty. What's this? No, it's too little. Hold on. What's this one?
Kirsty: That's Acetone. Adam: No!
Kirsty: That's not Acetone...Gel Residue Wipe-off Solution. Adam: Yeah. First one was Acetone.
Kirsty: Right! So, I'm gonna keep that there because then I know that's there.
Oh yeah, That's Monomer.
Right! So now, where's my little dish? Right! Here's the dish, okay.
We're gonna dip in some.
Hold on, I need to pull this right down because I just keep closing my eyes, to be honest and I don't want to be tempted to.
Is there some in?
I'm gonna...oh yeah, I can feel...
Kirsty: I don't recommend... Adam: There's plenty in
Kirsty: Yeah! I don't recommend that you like, dipping your finger in Monomer, in all fairness.
But you know when you wanna do nails and you've got those demons out there.
So, if you've not watched Bird Box, there's this demon kind of spirit thing, that if you look at it, it takes over your body
and makes you think of the worst things that you could ever imagine and makes you want to kill yourself.
Kirsty: It's quite traumatic really, isn't it? Don't you think, Adam? Adam: Hmm! Yeah!
Kirsty: So, they have to find their way through life. Adam: Do I need to be wearing a blindfold here by the way?
Kirsty: No.
[Movie clip playing]
Kirsty: No because you've got to film me. Adam: But what if I see a demon?
Kirsty: My eyes are watering. Adam: What if I see a demon?
Kirsty: Well, you'd just have to [incoherent].
Kirsty: Hold on. What colour is that? Adam: Mega White.
Kirsty: Oh, we don't want that. Is that, have we just cheated? Adam: That's Clear, so you definitely don't want that.
Kirsty: I need a short pot. Here! Short pots here. That'll do, what's that? Adam: Bit of Natural Beige.
Kirsty: Oh, my favourite colour. Right! Okay.
Kirsty: What have I done with my brush. That's my brush. Is it? Yeah, so that's it. Right!
Adam: Now you just have to figure out where the nail is. Kirsty: Right! So, we've got the nail here.
Kirsty: There's powder, there's a liquid.
I mean people say, "Oh, not Kirsty Meakin, ever so good at nails. She can do nails blindfolded." Really?
I just need to make sure whatever I do, I do not take the blindfold off because the demons, they will come and get me.
Do not take the blindfold off no matter what you do.
Right!
I can imagine this is going terribly wrong.
So, I have no idea how this is going. I'm just going through with normal motions,
thinking that, you know, this... oh there's the end.
Adam: So, can you feel resistance or...? Kirsty: Not really to be honest, not a lot.
You can do this.
I don't know where we've got bead.
Oh!
I think this would have been easier to do with gel polish.
Why did I choose acrylic?
Where's the pot? There we are. Right, okay. Swipe that up.
That's...oh, are we in? No, we're not in the pot.
Adam: What do you mean, that's where you'd normally put it? Kirsty: Yeah!
Adam: You always have your pot behind your Monomer but you got them to the side this time. Kirsty: I try to make sure...
Kirsty: So, I can feel a little bit of resistance when I go into the pot.
What? What are you laughing at? Am i not doing a good job?
Kirsty: Is it gonna be a lot of filing involved? Adam: I think there's gonna be a lot more application involved.
Kirsty: Oh! Am I not actually doing it? I'm gonna jack my brush. My brush could be a mess.
Oh, what am I doing?
Adam: I don't know whether I should be helping you or not. Kirsty: No, you can't help me, really.
Adam: Okay. No worries. Keep going.
Kirsty: Ugh! This is gonna be the worst beads I have ever picked up.
What?
What am I doing? Am I not doing the job?
Kirsty: Hold on, I've still got liquid left, ain't I? Adam: You can get as lot of liquid in there.
Kirsty: Am I making a mess. Hold on!
Kirsty: So, I'm thinking if I knock it to the side... Adam: Think of how long the nail is...
Kirsty: I know. You said this. Adam: ..and it has a top and a bottom.
Kirsty: Ah!
Adam: You've got a canny apex love. Kirsty: Like that?
Adam: Yeah. Kirsty: Oh! I can feel it now. Right! Okay.
Right here. Leave the product here because even if I can't touch it straight away.
Oh God, yeah. Oh, I can...Let's flatten down my finger a little bit.
Kirsty: Oh dear! Very lumpy, ain't it? Adam: Yeah.
Kirsty: Yeah. Oh God, That's some fingers in the Monomer again.
Oh God, I'm just breaking all the health and safety rules here.
Now, I'd normally have this done with in a few beads.
Right! So, there's the bottom here.
I've got my Monomer, I've blended back and I wanna like...
pull it...where is the nail?
Adam: You're not touching anything
Kirsty: I'm just guessing. Listen, how did they even like? How did they get down the river?
How did they get down the river and everything like this and how did she know where the children were?
I mean, the bow was a good idea. I liked the bow and I liked the fishing wire, that was a great idea.
However, those things are not going to help me in this situation.
Kirsty: Oh no! I don't even know if I can pick up a bead. I feel like I'm touching the bottom of the pot. Adam: You're not using much liquid.
Kirsty: aren't I? Adam: I think your ratio is a bit off.
Kirsty: Oh, is it?
[Movie clip playing]
Kirsty: Oh my God! What is going on here? Oh, there's a big bump.
Have I put any on. Why didn't I use Acrygel?
Oh my God it's...oh dear, yeah. Dry that bead cos I can touch it straight away.
It's going a bit warm as well. Definitely the ratios are all messed up.
Right! Where's the nail?
I've got a bit there. I think I need more there. Adam: Hmm!
Kirsty: And then, that's just...move it from side to side, blend it back there. Then it'll look beautiful.
Adam: Mm-hmm! Kirsty: Yeah.
Adam: Yeah
Kirsty: Imagine if you're a blind nail technician, you can do banging nails, I wanna meet you because you are amazing.
Kirsty: And I can feel that this is all going terribly wrong. Adam: It's definitely not right.
Adam: Remember that witches nail that you made?
Kirsty: I think I've made a right pig's ear out of this, but I'm gonna put a little bead here because I feel a bit of a gap here.
I don't know if that's completely empty product.
Adam: Mm-hmm! Kirsty: So, I can feel that. So, I'm gonna try my very best.
Adam: I think you should do that. Like you said, you filling it. Do that around the whole of the nail as well.
Kirsty: Oh, because it's messed up that much. Adam: Yeah, that's got nothing in that, no.
Kirsty: Oh, no, that's not Dampen Dish. That's wasn't the Dampen Dish, I'm just putting my brush somewhere.
Put it in the Dampen Dish. Here we go.
Yeah.
Just tapping the nail right now with brush, hoping for the best.
Kirsty: Let that dry a little bit before I touch it. Adam: There's a saying isn't there, hope for the best, expect the worst.
Kirsty: I didn't go into the whole wall. I'm gonna push it into the hole.
Adam: You've ever seen bacon when it's like sort of all mashed up, like when it's raw and it's like all in a packet?
Like if it's not fully laid down flat in the bag.
Kirsty: A bag of bacon? Adam: Yeah! That's kind of what it looks like.
Kirsty: The nail is like bag of bacon. Adam: ...bag of bacon.
Kirsty: Oh, I'm doing a brilliant job of it. I'm generally quite good at nails, you know, I'm alright, you know, alright.
Adam: Yeah. Kirsty: I think we're doing alright job, but I'm not convincing myself of doing a fabulous job right now.
Kirsty: So, if Bird Box ever happened, which my daughter actually asked me,
she said, "Well, what if that happens, Mummy and you know, what would we do?"
And I jokingly said, "Well, we won't be doing nails, would we doc? We will not be doing nails."
She was like, "No, how would we survive? I wasn't thinking about nails."
Do you know what, my first nail probably looked like this to be honest, wasn't very lumpy bumpy.
Annette will tell you how bad they were.
Adam: Are there any your other senses are heightened, now that you can't see? Kirsty: Do you know what?
Adam: Your sense of smell and your hearing. Kirsty: I can smell the Monomer and I never normally smell the Monomer
because I'm surrounded by it so much. I feel like I just become immune to the smell of Monomer,
but...oh my God, why is all way over there? I want it to be there.
But yeah, I can smell the Monomer.
Kirsty: Why was the all the way over there, I don't want it there.
Adam: Just a new way of doing nails just with your fingers.
Kirsty: Well, we have to improvise when we really, you know, when we're trying to survive with our beautiful nails
because when we're inside the house with all the, you know, the curtains, everything barricaded,
we still wanna look nice, still wanna have banging nails.
Do you think I need...do I need a little bit there? I think....
Before the critics say to me, "Why are you not doing it on a real person...
because it wouldn't be like that on a real person?" Like a real person would have want me to do this on them?
Do you really think we'd have a model willing for this little challenge? I don't think so.
Kirsty: I think I'm done with the acrylic after my how many beads? How many beads? Adam: Nine, I think.
Kirsty: A lot of beads.
And I have acrylic on my fingers.
Mind you, that is satisfying to peel off because feel like when you pick glue up here.
Kirsty: Where's the lid? Adam: Behind.
Kirsty: No, don't tell me. Adam: Sorry!
Kirsty: And there's that, okay. Right, okay!
So now, we're gonna file this nail.
I'm just gonna go through my normal filing routine.
Adam: Once you find it first. Kirsty: Find the file.
Kirsty: No, hold on. No. Oh, for God sake's.
I Know I put one over here, something is right there.
Yeah, once I file off the acrylic off my fingers. Oh! Don't put it there. Lovely! There you are.
What's this? Oh, okay.
So, I'm gonna do the sidewalls first.
Now, I'm quite confident that this I can do.
I think I can file this nail into a beautiful shape. I'm pretty confident with this part.
Adam: Is this where we take the blindfold off to make another one perfect and we'd just go tadaa!
Kirsty: I mean I'd love to get the e-file out, but I really think that would be super dangerous
because I don't think I'd have any fingers left. However, I have a lot of acrylic on my fingers to you know, to check them.
Adam: I'm confident it's not gonna look good.
Kirsty: Oh, are you, really?
Kirsty: Well... Adam: I'm confident it's gonna look better than it did.
Kirsty: Yeah! I'm confident it would be better than it did.
What I'm struggling to do is to...Oh my God! Look how thick.. I say look how thick it is.
I can feel how thick this is.
I'm struggling to figure out what's thick and what's acrylic, obviously, there's a lot of acrylic on the top,
But like when you come to do the sides.
Now, if I just do this, we'll just be like...
Then I can add a load the pressure.
Then I can get it down a bit easier.
I really don't think my eyelashes are gonna be all nice and perky after this.
The blindfold is having a detrimental effect for my eyelashes.
Not gonna lie, I don't think my eyelashes will be nice and fluffy when I take this off.
I suppose my eyelashes should be the least of my worries here.
I think my eyelashes might look like the eyelashes on my top when I take the blindfold off.
Oh, I dropped it.
Should have put it back on the stands. Oh no! Where's it gone?
Right! That's the glue. Adam: That's the glue. So, you're getting a sixth sense here?
Kirsty: I think I am.
Kirsty: Right, where's the thing? Adam: Oh, okay! You got that.
Kirsty: I can feel the dips there and I could feel the dip in the nail of the curves.
I'm gonna get glued to it.
Not sure this is gonna work.
Adam: Are you gonna be able to get your finger off the acrylic then Kirsty: Look, I don't know if it's actually going to work though
Adam: You've become a real youtuber, you sold out to gimmicks. Kirsty: Oh God! What has happened?
I did beautiful nails, not ones like this. Oh my God!
Oh, the glue!
Kirsty: It's making me hot like, I'm sweating and everything. Adam: I think you should just topcoat it.
Kirsty: I will in a minute, let me just do a little bit more. Come on now. Be fair.
You know, I have sometimes I'd say to you guys, when you're filing, you know, when you're filing,
you think you're done with the filing and then you feel the nail.
But sometimes, you can't necessarily see the imperfection, sometimes you can feel the imperfection.
Well, let me tell you, I can feel imperfections in this nail right now.
Adam: Got to say you're filing technique is still very good considering you are blindfolded.
Kirsty: I'm just repeating what I normally do like, it becomes a pattern.
The more you file, the more your body just, you know, uses the memory and goes for it again.
Kirsty: It feels like it curves to one side. Why has that happened though?
Adam: Because you've got a blindfold on
Kirsty: Why is it curve to the side? How have I done that?
Oh my God! I so want to take this blindfold off. Oh my God!
I need a buffer now.
Oh no! I'm gonna find that.
Adam: No, it's not there'. Kirsty: None over here?
Adam: I can see one but do you want me to guide you? Kirsty: No.
Adam: Oh, no, go back to where you were and come back a bit down.
Oh no! You had it. Your middle finger was on it there.
Kirsty: We have the buffer.
Did you ever do those team-building activities at school, where you all get blindfolded
and you have to guide each other through a little like assault course?
And we did it with the Princes Trust. I think they do it like when they do these...
Oh no! Where's that gone? Oh no! Where's it gone? Oh no!
Kirsty: Oh, great! Got it Adam: You couldn't mistake it for anything else
Kirsty: Where's my buffer gone? Oh, yeah.
As I was saying.
Yeah, they have these erm... they do...
round here, we go to Stanley Head and they do like these team-building activities and stuff.
And they do like a challenge where you are blindfolded.
I can just feel like it bumps out there.
I think I'll glue on the stand.
Adam: Yeah, that's right. Kirsty: Yeah, I can feel that there's something there.
Adam: Plenty on Kirsty: Is it plenty?
Adam: Yaay!
Adam: You do realize your glue is dried now? Kirsty: No.
Adam: Oh, did you put the nail on? Kirsty: I put it straight on.
Adam: I couldn't see. I can't see. I'm bird-boxed at the moment by your hand. Kirsty: Oh!
Adam: What are you looking for? Kirsty: Top coat.
Adam: No. Kirsty: That's matte not base
Adam: Your left hand's closer. No! Push the acrylic out of the way.
Adam: The other side. That's an acrylic pot, push it out there. Yaay! Kirsty: Ahh! Okay!
Kirsty: Where's my lamp? Oh, that's the mic.
Testing testing 1,2,3. Where's the lamp, yeah.
Kirsty: Where's the lamp? Are we on? Adam: Mm-hmm!
Kirsty: God! I've got a lot of...here. Adam: You finally noticed that it's a bit messy.
Kirsty: Right! Where's the nail? So, I'm gonna topcoat this now.
I can feel some resistance now. I can feel that I'm painting something,
and I'm sure it's not gonna be the most beautiful application but what I am trying to do,
is make I sure I cover the whole nail.
Now, if this was attached to a living person, then maybe I will be covering the whole finger.
Adam: I would definitely tend some more.
No! Stop stabbing. Oh!
Kirsty: Don't help me. Come on. Right!.
So yeah. I can feel there's more on there because it's sliding better.
Oh God! I think that's just gonna be terrible but I'm just gonna have to go on with it.
Right! Let's get this in the lamp.
Oh!... I've got some gel on my hand then because I tell you what, that burnt like a...
Oh my God! Look at my fingers. What is this all over me?
Adam: Tidy up now. Kirsty: What! What? You want me to tidy up?
Kirsty: How am I gonna do that? I don't know where anything is. Found my stone.
Adam: You can't film when it's that much of a mess though.
Kirsty: Well, we're gonna have to. Adam: But you normally tidy up when it's in the lamp.
Kirsty: I know but I'm not gonna do that.
I've just got the file.
What's that?
Adam: It's acrylic
Kirsty: What is that? What am I getting caught on?
Oh my God, why is there like a big chunk of acrylic on the table? Oh dear!. Okay!
Kirsty: Right I reckon that'd be...did I pressed the button? Adam: Yeah.
Adam: Hand right. Kirsty: Alright! Here we go.
Kirsty: Oh! I didn't know where I put the stone now.
There. Right! And there we are. That's how to create a beautiful nail. Bird Box style.
Right! I'm gonna take the blindfold off and have a look.
Adam: Your eyelashes are down. Did you finish?
Kirsty: What is going on with my eyelashes? Adam: They're kind of stuck.
Kirsty: What is that?
So, I've come to the conclusion that if this ever happens, you know, in the world,
nails will be non-existent and I will definitely have no job because that is absolutely horrendous.
That is the worst nail I think I have ever ever made.
Kirsty: Why is there so much product on there? Adam: Because it was for Fay.
Kirsty: Do you know what? It didn't feel that big. Honest to God, it didn't feel that...Jesus!
It didn't feel like that, which I have failed.
Adam: The demons didn't get you though. Kirsty: The demons didn't get me.
Adam: Though, the nail demons did. Kirsty: I know. What the hell? Oh my God!
I've got...oh my God! What the hell?
I'm gonna finish here so I can sort these fingers out.
Thanks for watching everybody. Don't forget, everything I've used will be below.
And if you wanna try this challenge, don't forget to tag us because I wanna see your results.
Can you do a better job than me? I think you probably can.
But do not cheat. I did not cheat at any point.
Clearly, the evidence is clear that I didn't cheat.
Have a go.
I'll see you next video. Bye-bye!
Adam: That was good. Kirsty: What the hell is that? I need to watch that.
