Air and ground transportation in Korea were
disrupted today by heavy snowfall overnight.
At least 200 flights were delayed on Friday at major airports... while part of a main
highway in Gangwon-do Province was shut down after around 30 centimeters of snow fell in
the area.

Heavy snowfall overnight grounded flights on Friday and has slowed down traffic on roads
across the nation.
According to the Korea Airports Corporation, more than 150 flights, including 117 departures,
had been delayed at Incheon International Airport, Korea's main gateway, as of Friday
morning.
Disruptions were also seen at Gimpo International Airport, with more than 50 flights delayed.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said that as of 6 AM Friday, the capital Seoul
had received 6 centimeters of snow,... while Incheon, to the west of the capital, had 8
centimeters... and the northwestern island of Baengyeongdo had 11 centimeters.
But the heaviest snowfall was seen in the mountainous eastern province of Gangwon-do,
which resulted in the partial closure of the Misiryeong pass, a major route between Goseong
and Inje counties.
The Misiryeong pass had accumulated about 30 centimeters of snow as of 1-o'clock this
afternoon, prompting the police to close off the road temporarily to clear it -- it's now
back open -- but only to vehicles with the right equipment for icy conditions, including
tire chains.
Most of Gangwon-do got between 10 and 30 centimeters of snow, with the national weather agency
forecasting additional snowfall of between 5 and 20 centimeters for Gangwon-do Province's
mountainous areas and the nation's east coast.
