The mayor of San Francisco recently vowed to oppose the federal government.

In order to do so, he made a request of the state so shocking, it has everyone disgusted.It's

no surprise that San Francisco is a sanctuary city for illegal aliens.

The city, which is swallowed up in filth, puts criminals ahead of tax-paying citizens.

Poverty is overwhelming, with thousands of homeless filling the streets.

Yet instead of improving conditions for working Americans, their leaders prioritize illegal

aliens.

This is progressivism run amuck.

Liberals are more concerned with opposing President Donald Trump than they are with

the well-being of their own citizens.

In a shocking act of treason, the interim mayor of San Francisco vowed to go to jail

in order to protect criminal aliens.

What he did next was even more ridiculous.

Interim San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell is reportedly willing to go to jail to ensure

his city always remains a "sanctuary city."

Farrell assured hundreds of amnesty activists last week who were blocking and protesting

in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building that San Francisco will forever

be a "sanctuary city."

He also, according to ABC7, "said he is willing to get arrested if that's what it

takes to defend sanctuary city policies," echoing comments that Oakland Mayor Libby

Schaaf recently made.

Farrell is requesting the state of California for an additional $7 million to help illegals.

Interim San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell is reportedly asking California for another $7

million so his city can defend every illegal immigrant that Immigration and Customs Enforcement

(ICE) detains in the Bay Area.

ICE reportedly detained more than 200 illegal immigrants last week in sweeps across the

Bay Area, and Farrell, according to KTVU, is partnering with Assemblyman Phil Ting to

request $7 million in state funds for legal defense services.

San Francisco will reportedly spend about $11 million this year on legal defense services,

which "represents a 236-percent increase."

schools, or clean up the poop in their streets, or fix infrastructure.

It's going to pay for illegal's legal defense fees.

San Francisco is literally paying to fight their own country — in favor of outsiders.

Imagine if it were American citizens in jeopardy.

Of course not.

But if you came here illegally from Latin America, Farrell with use taxpayer dollars

to protect you.

This is what happens when liberals are in control.

They betray their own people to push a toxic agenda.

Considering that the vast majority of the people ICE apprehends are violent criminals

(working for gangs), San Francisco's mayor is spending tax dollars to make sure rapists,

drug dealers, and murderers stay in his city.

He's even willing to go to jail to protect the worst of the worst.

Does any American city deserve that kind of mayor?

and opinions that they've voiced.

Some have been considered lacking in diplomacy, some have been called too "old school"

However, the team of President and Vice President make a pretty good team for one very important

reason; they balance one another out.

President Trump is unconventional and forceful, while Mike Pence is known to be thoughtful

and much more soft-spoken.

Their strengths and weaknesses work well together, however, both have been accused of one thing;

not treating women right.

President Trump is constantly being accused of misconduct with women, which is never actually

proven.

And Mike Pence has come under fire for not putting himself into a potentially compromising

situation, and he's still called sexist.

The one thing that both have in common is that the left is constantly trying to paint

both of them as treating the innocent without dignity.

Perhaps we should assume the best about the accusers and think that they only have the

health and well being of those who are likely to be abused in mind.

After all, we should always look after the innocent.

That, it appears, would be the best case scenario.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that they are actually worried about the innocent at

all.

Sunday night's Academy Awards taught us that anything that can be done to leave mud

on the face of one of the men in the White House will be done, even if they have to put

children in danger to do it.

Sunday's demonstration of that was when host Jimmy Kimmel actually said that a film

that is widely accepted to promote pedophilia was made for the purpose of upsetting Mike

Pence.

The Western Journal reports that not everyone found that particular joke funny:

"Sunday's 90th annual Academy Awards ceremony was chock full of politicization and jabs

at prominent conservatives.

During the opening monologue, host Jimmy Kimmel made references to #MeToo and Times Up — two

movements aimed at ending rampant sexual misconduct present in the entertainment industry.

However, the host's preaching seemed somewhat hypocritical, especially when he hurled a

poorly timed joke at Vice President Mike Pence.

'Of the nine Best Picture nominees, only two made more than $100 million.

That's not the point,' Kimmel said.

"We don't make films like 'Call Me By Your Name' for money.

We make them to upset Mike Pence.'

The joke was widely panned on Twitter as being a pathetic admission of just how low liberal

elites will sink in order to criticize the Trump administration.

However, the joke was more than just flat, it was hypocritical.

The film Kimmel referenced, 'Call Me By Your Name,' centers around two gay individuals

who engage in a sexual relationship with each other.

It is no secret Kimmel's trajectory for the joke was aimed at Pence's devout Christian

background and opposition to legalized gay marriage.

However, Kimmel's joke was tone-deaf at best — the relationship featured in the

movie would be considered illegal in areas of the United States, as one boy is a 17-year-old

minor while the other man is a 24-year-old adult.

While the film is set in Italy, which has a different set of laws regarding sex with

a minor, in parts of the United States the act would be considered illegal.

The joke is even more painful to listen to when considering that Hollywood was rocked

in 2017 after countless instances of sexual misconduct within the industry began surfacing.

Because of this, the film received widespread criticism even before Kimmel's ill-timed

joke.

Actor Corey Feldman, an entertainer at the forefront of exposing pedophilia in Hollywood,

responded on Twitter after being told the film did not include instances of "child

grooming."

'Really?

How do U justify a grown man starting a relationship w someone's child?'

Feldman asked.

Gabe Hoffman, co-producer of 'An Open Secret,' a 2014 documentary centered around child sexual

abuse in the entertainment industry, stated that the film was 'questionable' at best.

'We think it's at least questionable,; Hoffman told The Washington Times, adding

that 'at worst' the film is 'glorifying pedophilia.'

As noted by The Times, the creation and release of the film is even more abhorrent when taking

into account that in California, the age of consent is 18.

Many users took to Twitter to voice their dislike of Kimmel's joke, and some even

took a few jabs of their own at Hollywood elitists."

The question is; when you have a platform to speak, what is the most important point

to make?

If the point is safety, and what everyone is really worried about is making sure that

men treat women and children with the kind of respect that they would never even make

them feel uncomfortable, then it's clear that Mike Pence is indeed above reproach.

If the point is to make the Trump Administration look bad, no matter who is collateral damage,

then job well done Hollywood.

You've once again done something horrific and managed to distract everyone by poking

fun of the morally upright.

Glendon Grads Address Canada@150: The Canadian Senate Part 16 Gary O'Brien - Duration: 13:14.

Soon after John McNeese spoke this morning John and I were also very close at Glendon

I went out to the hallway chatted and I said Escott Reid who was the principal when I started here in 1969

would have been so proud of you John because of the vision he had of Glendon and the kind of student

Glendon produced and went on to achieve great things in his career

I would say the same thing for every one of you who have spoken today

It's just been fantastic and

The school, great credit to the school but to also yourself for honouring

Escott Reid's vision

I'm going to be talking about the Senate

But before I do so David Moulton had asked me

To say a few words about what personal impact Glendon had on me

and I can say that's it's hard to say with any precision other than it was the best four years of my life

Some of the friendships, I made here have lasted forever

two I would mention are with Suzanne Kinsman who unfortunately was not able to be with us today

She is in Northern Ontario and with Tom Healy who is with us today

I should also mention David Moulton

I really appreciate keeping in touch with him and with Donald Walker who keeps sending me his Christmas newsletter

which I very much appreciate

I cannot say that my political

worldviews emerged from my years at Glendon

They had already been formed at Ajax high school from my reading of Robert Kennedy's to seek a newer world

first published in 1967

Glendon however reinforced those views

I was truly blessed with always having fantastic professors, it would be unfair

to say which one's touched my spirit more

but given the shortness of time today

I would mention Joseph Starobin

who before coming to Glendon played an incredible role in the journey of the American left

and who's one saying

that quote unlike the George Grants of this world we need to cease to lament for a nation and come out and fight

nor can I say my years at Glendon very much deepened my academic thinking

I think that took place at Carleton University, which you bear mentioned during my Master's year when I was

overwhelmingly exposed to the essentials of political science which made my later

preparation for my PhD comps a piece of cake

However, Glendon did lead me to where my interests truly were particularly Michael Horn's course on Ontario history

and a subject I returned to in the 1980s and my doctoral thesis on pre Confederation of parliamentary history

With regard to my professional career having worked in Parliament for some 30-plus years

and what insights I might have mustered on the value of the Senate as an institution. I can truly say that I believe

bicameralism is one of the great ideas of government

Its origins can be traced back to the classical time of the Romans when they had two consuls to make decisions not to consult

one with the other, but two consuls to make decisions as well as to the idea of the balanced Constitution

embodied in the Glorious Revolution of 1689

as Janet Ajzenstat of McMaster University who I came to know when I was working at the Senate said it remains a fact

that the parliamentary system of checks and balances with bicameralism at its heart is the world's greatest

political invention

It is important to remember that bicameralism was never put forward as a theory of the best form of government

From the start it set itself up as a target for criticism

because its original purpose was to try to prevent the worst government

Its first proponents in the modern era were James Harrington in 1659 and Montesquieu in 1748

They saw bicameralism as a way of discouraging

parliamentary despotism and for allowing a second opinion on political matters

Harrington wrote that a popular Senate a popular assembly without a Senate cannot be wise

Montesquieu following up on Harrington's work was also interested in the balance of power between the two chambers

and the improvement of legislation

Montesquieu wrote when the legislative and executive powers are united there can be no Liberty

so these two themes preventing parliamentary despotism, which includes protecting against popular demagoguery

and to improving legislation

The special prerogative of the Prime Minister to make recommendations for the appointment of senators stays in place

the numerous provisions of the Constitution Act 1867

which no longer serve a public purpose, the age,

property, citizen provisions, the sections relating to Quebec and those relating to bankruptcy and infamous crimes continue

Improved regional

representation has yet to be realized

Western Canada remains underrepresented and provincial governments and Canadians continue to be excluded

from discussions how to modernize the Senate for a 21st century Canada

In a nutshell the Senate's most grievous

shortcomings are its lack of accountability to the Canadian people

and its under-representation of Western Canada and its present allocation of powers

Regarding what reforms are required to allow the Senate to effectively play its part within a bicameral framework

Having gone through the Senate scandal

I have come to believe that the Senate's method of selection, the distribution of seats and its powers must become more

constitutionally linked with the provinces, and this is the only way to go

As we learn from the Charlottetown Accord

complex constitutional reform proposals run a higher risk of failure

It would be better to proceed

incrementally in stages, for example regarding the selection of senators

provinces could be empowered to decide how their senators should be selected, either by direct election

by electors, by indirect election, by members of the provincial legislature, and this was something the new Quebec paper

I don't know if it was a white paper on

its constitutional vision

It did include a section about the Senate and what it would like to see

Alberta going from six to ten and Saskatchewan and Manitoba

going from six to seven

regarding powers

a constitutional amendment could be made restricting a Senate to being a check against flawed legislation

which abuses legislative powers, poses great detriment to the regions of Canada,

or compromise the charter or linguistic rights while ensuring the supremacy of the House of Commons with respect to confidence matters

As Professor David Smith, probably our leading academic on the Senate, once wrote, "few studies of the Senate do not talk about,

if they are not devoted to, its reform", and "reform of the Senate must be one of the hoariest

subjects in Canadian politics".

Today we could go on for a long time debating what to do about the Senate, but I think I will leave it at that
