Hey there, for almost as long as there has been a China, its rulers have been struggling
to control this vast, sparsely populated territory in the far Northwest.
The Chinese call this area Xinjiang, which can be roughly translated as frontier or borderlands,
but it has been known by many other names, In many other languages.
Thanks to modern technology and wealth, the Chinese may have finally found a way to control
the Uighur population by turning Xinjiang into a dystopia that seems more Science fiction
than reality.
Today we will be talking about what's going on and why it matters.
Many commenters have criticized me for taking so long to cover this topic, and they are
absolutely right.
At its best this channel is about challenging the powerful, and that most often means going
after the US government.
In its dealings with Washington DC, Beijing is still very much the underdog, so I tend
to take their side.
I don't apologize for that, but that doesnt mean I should ignore the bad things that China
does, and what they are doing to the Uighurs is horrific.
The suffering of Xinjiang is similar in some ways to what China is doing in Tibet.
So similar that the Chinese government official who is turning Uighur life into a Sci- fi
Hellscape earned his position by doing the same job in Tibet.
Tibet gets a lot more attention internationally, which is surprising, because it is a lot less
important on almost every measure.
There are far fewer people to worry about in Tibet for one thing.
For another Xinjiang shares borders with 8 countries, and is the launching pad for many
of the land based sections of China's one belt one road initiative.
Tibet has some interesting borders but it also has these honking big mountains that
make it both super defensible, and a not very practical place for new transport infrastructure.
I think the main thing is that the Tibetans aren't Muslim, and the Uighurs are, which
means that the Tibetans get a lot more sympathy on the international stage.
Its screwed up but that's how it is.
China is now enjoying what is almost certainly its longest unbroken period of control of
the region.
Since the 1750s China has been the major power in Xinjiang the majority of the time, but
they rarely went more than a couple decades without losing it to some Turkic nomad prince,
or the Soviet Union, or just to some petty Chinese warlord.
The Chinese Communist party is now working hard to ensure that this never happens again.
Between the last reconquest of Xinjiang in 1949 and the end of the Soviet Union, China
had to be more solicitous of the Native Uighur population.
Don't get me wrong, it was still authoritarian as all hell, but the Soviets and the Chinese
had a bit of a competition going to see who could be better to their subject nations in
central asia.
That's why the official name of the Province is still the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Province.
After 1992, and the fall of the Soviet Union, this stopped mattering as much.
And after 2001 China was handled the perfect tool to use against the Muslim Uighur people.
All they had to do to get away with cultural genocide was call them terrorists.
Between 2001 and 2016 the Chinese slowly ratcheted up the pressure on the Uighurs.
They are no longer a majority in their own province.
Members of China's Han majority have been migrating to Xinjiang for quite some time
now but China's economic miracle over the past couple decades has sent the migration
into overdrive.
It is basically what the US did to the Native Americans, taking place in what is supposedly
our more civilized era.
Just like the indigenous people oppressed by the US, Uighurs can make themselves safer
by conspicuously abandoning their culture and assimilating to the Chinese mainstream.
A small handful of Uighurs have gone in the other direction and carried out a few horrifying
attacks against innocent Chinese civilians.
These counterproductive acts of course only serve to provide cover to Chinese repression.
By 2016 the Chinese were already engaged in the systematic repression of traditional Islamic
life, dismantling mosques and traditional neighborhoods and forbidding facial hair.
Then things got a lot worse.
In August of 2016 Chen Quango showed up and he brought the repressive system he pioneered
In Tibet.
At its heart is a massive expansion of policing and police stations.
In urban areas there is now a mini police station every 500 meters or so.
According to the Jamestown Foundation there is now a police station for every 300 people
in Xinjiang, or roughly one police station for every 150 Uighurs.
In his first year in office Quango added almost 100,000 new policing jobs.
Surveillance is constant and mandatory.
Beyond the absurdly inflated police forces, informing on one's neighbors is encouraged,
and Uighurs are regularly required to surrender their phones and other devices for intelligence
analysis.
And that's not the worst bit.
I am a huge opponent of mass incarceration in the United States.
One of my favorite arguments against it was the fact that the US had more people in prison
than China, a totalitarian state four times larger than we are.
Not proportionally, but in raw numbers.
That was one of my favorite arguments against US mass incarceration.
Unfortunately, it is almost certainly no longer true.
In just the past two years it is estimated that the number of Uighurs that have been
detained indefinitely has grown up to almost a million.
We don't have exact numbers on this.of course, though we do know from sattelite imagery that
new reeducation camps have been cropping up all over Xinjiang province, and that it seems
like every Uighur family in has a family member or members that have disappeared.
We need to be honest about what these are.
These are concentration camps.
Now I am not saying that this is anywhere near as bad as the mass killing camps that
the Nazis set up, or the starvation and disease ridden concentration camps the British set
up all over Africa.
This isn't a world historical tragedy or genocide yet.
But it absolutely could be.
All of the components are there.
The question is what should we do about this?
The diplomatic steps western governments have taken are to be applauded.
We need to bring attention to this, loudly and repeatedly.
But I think we need to tread carefully.
I think we need to ask why it is that China felt emboldened enough to arrest as much as
10% of the Uighur population over the past two years.
Condemnation is good.
Calling this behavior barbaric is good.
Embarrassing China on this issue is good.
But open conflict would not be good.
Yup, I am about to blame Donald Trump.
But not just Trump.
Over the past couple years all of Washington DC has decided to start going after China
more aggressively.
As Trump and his anti-China rhetoric ran for and won the white house Chen Quanguo moved
into Xinjiang and stepped up arrests.
In October of 2018, after a year of accelerating trade war, China stopped bothering to even
deny the existence of these concentration camps.
A higher degree of conflict between the US and China has not been good for the Uighurs.
Let's lean into Godwin's law by ending this discussion with the Nazis.
A little appreciated fact is that they needed World War II to fully become the monsters
we remember.
They were always disgusting thugs, but in the 1930s, many or even most of the people
put in concentration camps got to go home after being brutalized for a period of weeks
or months.
It was only in the context of World War II and the complete breakdown of civilized norms
that the Nazis were able to build out their industrial system of extermination.
The Uighur situation is nowhere near that bad yet… but all the components are there.
Heightened conflict between China and the US is likely to further assemble the components.
To save the Uighurs we need to embarRass China over this, not fight it.

Kareem Hunt's Suspension: How Long Is It For Browns RB? | Heavy.com - Duration: 5:33.
Kareem Hunt's Suspension: How Long Is It For Browns RB? | Heavy.com
The Cleveland Browns are signing Kareem Hunt, but the team will have to wait for the NFL ruling on his suspension before he sees the field.
Hunt was released by the Chiefs after a video surfaced of the running back physically assaulting a woman at a hotel.
The NFL has not announced how long Hunt's suspension will be, but it is expected to be for a good portion of the 2019 season.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in December that Hunt is expected to be suspended at least six games.
According to sources with direct knowledge of the situation, Hunt faces more than the baseline six-game suspension for violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy.
The league also has been investigating an incident involving Hunt allegedly punching a man in the face at an Ohio resort in June.
The NFL is believed to have found enough from that incident to add to Hunt's discipline.
However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported after the Browns signing that the suspension could be much longer, ranging from 10 to 12 games.
Hunt has undergone counseling and is hoping this could have a positive impact on the NFL investigation.
Browns GM John Dorsey Drafted Kareem Hunt in 2017 When He Worked for the Chiefs.
Chiefs GM John Dorsey was the executive that drafted Hunt when he led the Chiefs front office.
Dorsey has as good of background knowledge about Hunt as anyone in the league and appears to be optimistic that Hunt is a contrite individual.
Dorsey cited this prior relationship in a statement released by the Browns after the signing, per NFL.com.
My relationship and interaction with Kareem since 2016 in college was an important part of this decision making process but we then did extensive due diligence with many individuals, including clinical professionals, to have a better understanding of the person he is today and whether it was prudent to sign him.
There were two important factors: one is that Kareem took full responsibility for his egregious actions and showed true remorse and secondly, just as importantly, he is undergoing and is committed to necessary professional treatment and a plan that has been clearly laid out.
We fully understand and respect the complexity of questions and issues in signing a player with Kareem's history and do not condone his actions.
Given what we know about Kareem through our extensive research, we believe he deserves a second chance but certainly with the understanding that he has to go through critical and essential steps to become a performing member of this organization, aside from what the NFL determines from their ongoing investigation.
According to ESPN, the Browns only signed Hunt to a one-year contract, but the running back will be a restricted free agent after the 2019 season.
This means Cleveland will have an opportunity to retain Hunt for the 2020 season if they are pleased with the relationship.
ESPN reported the NFL investigation is not near completion and the running back will remain on the commissioner's exempt list until a decision has been made about Hunt's future.
A source close to the situation told ESPN's Dan Graziano that the discipline process was "still ongoing and nowhere near done." A source told Graziano that Hunt met with NFL investigators in January as part of the process.
Hunt, now that he has signed, will again be placed on the commissioner's exempt list until the NFL makes a final decision on discipline.
Here's a look at the video showing Hunt being physically violent with a woman.

Perchè le donne si innamorano dei narcisisti - Duration: 3:24.
hello who loves narcissists there are people who fall in love with narcissists, that is, of
who in fact does not come from nothing basically now it would come to say but
because you fall in love with these people there is the hand of these people right
because they do not give anything just because they behave in this
paradoxically, the narcissist is one mega meatball poisoned for that
takes root obviously not on everyone but on some types of people ad
example on all those who fear the loneliness because those who fear loneliness
actually born me from a point of view logical but because he fears it because from a
emotional point of view go find her because otherwise we do not fear what is not
somehow it does not affect inside we
how can i say i can not hold the earthquake
if I believe that earthquakes never come for an example it is solitude e
as I fear it because I have experienced it has known for a long time and then I hooked up to then
people who actually make me laugh solitude
I'm afraid of being left or being left are the typical people that san
they can not stop this narcissist because narcissist makes you constantly live the
fear that you can leave to do live constantly and then you can
fear the fear of being left behind because that is also good to look for from one
the emotional point of view of who you are gancia good on the narcissist and those who fear of
to disappoint others because they are narcissistic after a while you do it makes you understand that it
you're disappointing that you're not his height and this is we say only the
personalities who have lived the addiction that they have lived the
conditioning that maybe at 11 years 12 years parents have addressed in the
type of study have led them to wand they conditioned them then
that kind of mameli conditioning look for these are the people that most
they easily engage naturally to the narcissistic personalities
because the tenacity exists they make you say to loneliness they make you live fear
to leave you so they get to the some of the abandonment that lower the estimate
so the fact that they disappoint you live the guilt and make you
fundamentally dependent this is let's say the trigger that creates everything then
obviously each of us can maybe fear more or less abandonment then one
of us can hook up narcissists but if a person did not have these things
here it does not actually hook the narcissist because or otherwise it is not
sensitive to things that implement the narcissist for which they will be turned on
himself to disengage because if he sees that you do not fear abandonment on subjects that do not
you give nothing away to be left behind that you do not hit it and so it was
absolutely nothing if then disappoint him that it is not the same as coop
the narcissist knows he does not have check on yourself for which he will be either
she to disengage precisely for this video is all if you write to canada for
the possibility of asking a question of Support a video response if the video
you liked it puts a like i share your friends bye

PARMA 0-1 INTER | FOCUS ON NAINGGOLAN AND BROZOVIC! | Extra Time - Duration: 5:55.
Hello and welcome back, Inter TV viewers.
It's Monday, which means another episode of Extra Time.
As always we have Massimo Paganin in the studio.
- Hello Max. - Hello Federica and hello everyone.
Hello also to Alberto Santi.
Hi Federica and Massimo.
Welcome back and it's a good Monday at last!
What are our four talking points today?
We're focusing on two players.
One is Nainggolan, who is looking good again, though he can do better still.
The other is Brozovic, who was really good
both in building the play and the defensive side of his game
because he won lots of balls back.
We might not be able to see them all but there were loads,
including one that led to Lautaro Martinez's goal.
The third point is our four-man midfield
Brozovic, Vecino, Nainggolan and Joao Mario.
Our passing was more free-flowing as a result.
It was basically an asymmetrical midfield which focused on building play on the right
while on the left they looked to spread play wide
into space for Perisic and Asamoah.
The last point is 'The right spirit'.
I prepared this with Alberto.
Against Bologna we saw that Brozovic struggled to get moves going,
especially in the wide areas.
We'll show you a moment from the game which I think shows they have the right spirit again.
Let's start with Il Ninja.
He had an excellent game, as many have already pointed out.
There's still room for improvement but you can see he's fitter
and he brought quality to the midfield.
This is a move where he collects the ball...
Yes, he collects the ball from Joao Mario and gets a shot away at the end of a move.
That's what he has to do: make runs into the box to pick up passes and get shots away.
That's something he does so well.
Perhaps he's not back to his sharpest yet
but the main thing is he's getting into that position
because it means something has changed.
He showed that by making a great run.
It's hard for the opponents to read because he starts his run from very deep.
The second point is Brozovic continuing to do well.
He's been playing well for a long time now.
He went through a spell where he found it a bit harder,
especially in terms of building play
but that wasn't the case against Parma.
Last week we saw that Handanovic wasn't passing to Brozovic
but here he's very smart because he looks up and plays it forward
and the move starts from there.
This last pass here could have been better from Nainggolan
but he does that later when he sets up the goal.
Inter can certainly improve their build-up play
but they're already doing well.
Here he collects the ball from Skriniar instead of from Handanovic.
Again he looks up and plays a forward pass, almost identical to the previous one.
He picks out Nainggolan between the lines.
It's obviously something they've worked on with the coach.
Brozovic playing the ball forward to Nainggolan
caused no end of problems for Parma.
The third point is the four-man midfield.
Spalletti went with four in midfield
favouring a passing game against a team that would be playing on the break
so it was important to keep hold of the ball.
This is a move involving all four of them
then Nainggolan feeds Perisic on the wing
and he plays this cross through the six-yard box.
Icardi arrives just a fraction too late
but it's a great ball from a move that all four midfielders had a hand in.
Once again we have Brozovic starting the move.
He plays a forward pass to Perisic,
who gives it to Nainggolan
and lays off for Vecino, who finds Joao Mario.
We see these flowing passing moves from Inter
because these technical players show for the ball between the lines.
They shake off their markers at the right time
and the team's build-up play benefits as a result.
Finally, the right spirit.
The players are different but the movement and attacking mindset is the same.
Brozovic hits the post here. It's good to see him taking long shots.
Here's another move. Skriniar clears and it goes to Parma.
Perisic is in the middle of the park,
which is not where he should be because it means he's left a gap on the wing.
Look: he tells Brozovic and Asamoah to move out wide because he's in the middle.
He then takes up Brozovic's position, with Brozovic going wide.
Parma find their route cut off and they're forced to go back.
Here in the middle of the screen Perisic says to Brozovic
"Great job. Thanks for covering for me."
"We closed off that avenue for our opponents."
It takes footballing intelligence to understand you've made a mistake
by chasing the ball in the middle.
If you leave the flank exposed, you have to coordinate your team-mates.
He came into the centre and Brozovic went wide.
This footballing intelligence comes from being aware of what you're doing,
both mentally and physically.
He managed to find an immediate solution with his team-mates.
I think this point is important because it shows a change from last week.
Last week we saw them struggling.
Sometimes small things like this can make all the difference going forward.

China's Brutal Empire | Xinjiang And the Uyghurs - Duration: 9:29.

126 - What You Can Expect From Us in 2019 - Duration: 3:45.
Paul Adams: What we're shifting now is we want to come alongside all of our listeners,
and we want to come alongside you for one reason and one reason only, and that is to
make you an absolutely impossible customer for nearly every financial institutions offer
out there.
Here's what I mean, there are people who kind of listen and the person's wearing the slick
suit, and they've got beautiful offices, and you kind of listen and nod and they seem really
smart and you go, "Okay, that sounds okay."
No, I want you to be a critical client of everybody you work with.
I want you to ask why.
I want you to understand enough.
You don't need to understand everything about all things financial, but we need to understand
enough about things financial to become good consumers of financial knowledge, to become
good consumers of financial products.
Then what we hope will happen is that as listeners, you will question the paradigms that they
put you in, that you shouldn't just borrow money every chance that you get to get the
newest best car, that maybe you shouldn't set your lifestyle based upon the amount of
income you make, but rather you should be pausing and setting your entire lifestyle
first.
That you should not be putting 100% of your money into long-term assets that you can't
touch for 30 years and you should build a midterm bucket, because the more you build
surplus in an orchestrated and efficient financial life, the more freedom you have, the more
difficult it is for somebody to threaten you financially or in your career.
You see, what we want for you as our listeners, when we say we want you to be able to design
and build a good life, this isn't our version of a good life, it's yours.
But all too often, that gets eroded due to the inefficiency of all of the separate tools
we've collected, that we've put in our financial junk drawer.
What you can do instead of just collecting another tool and throwing it in your junk
drawer, is learn about the efficiency of those tools, learn how they work together.
You can write in and ask us questions at info@sfgwa.com.
You can request what you want on these podcasts and we are doing this for you.
Yes, we have our commercials and our podcasts, yes, we would love for those of you that are
listeners who might be appropriate clients, dig in with us, have a conversation about
our philosophy, but even our philosophy conversation, for those of you that have not been listeners
for a long time, here's the key: when we share our philosophy, we share it with you, it takes
about 45 minutes, and so we leave lots of room for Q&A and back and forth, and the only
thing that can come out of it is you can ask for an application.
If you do not ask for an application, we'll never call you again, because what we want
to do is we hope that we've imparted enough financial knowledge to you in that philosophy
that you now become more appropriate consumer of whoever you talk to, for whoever you listen
to, to help you design and build a good life.
It's not about winning you as a client.
It's about you winning the game that you're playing
in your life.

TASTY TOWN Game: Cooking game for Android & iOS - Gameplay #2 - Duration: 16:51.
Hello everyone to Big Paw Gaming!
Today is the part 2 of the Tasty Town gameplay!
I have unlocked the chicken coop, extra lands to harvest crops and expanded the restaurant.
The layout for tables was a little messy, so I reorganized few things too!
With extra space, I finally could hire new chefs that gave me new recipes =).
No more serving raw bacon and tasteless bread!
Mini-truck got some upgrades too. Bought extra pans
to make hamburgers and new addition to the menu - hot dogs!
While I am still managing the mini-game, it gets a little hard at times.
The game has many things to do and it is fun to play it. I can't wait to unlock the progress further!
I hope you like the video and watch it to the end.
