Whale Sharks - Duration: 2:54.

The majestic Whale shark is a gentle giant of the sea.

Weighing in at an average of 11 tons, the whale shark is the biggest fish in the ocean.

That's right; the Whale Shark is actually a fish, not a whale!

It gets its name from its enormous size.

They can grow up to 40 ft, the length of a school bus, and their deepest recorded dive

is 3146 ft, or the equivalent of around 3 Eiffel towers.

This ability comes in handy when.

They need to venture to the ocean floor to feed.

While Whale Sharks are usually solitary, they commonly group together to feed.

Whale Shark are Ram filter feeders, meaning they swim with their mouths open to collect

food.

They can also feed by standing still, either horizontally or vertically, and opening their

mouths to forcefully suck in their prey.

However, they have a less efficient filter feeding apparatus than similar filter feeders

such as the megamouth and basking shark.

Whale sharks feed on krill, copepods, and crab larva, as well as larger, more active

prey, such as small fishes, squid, and occasionally the freshly released spawn of large reef fishes.

According to a recent study, they need to eat about 1467-2763g of food an hour.

But why do we care about these beautiful creatures?

Well, whale sharks are an indicator species, meaning that the number of whale sharks in

the sea is a sign for how many krill and plankton are in the ocean, and therefore help to indicate

the overall health of the ocean.

However, these fish need our help.

As you can see from this video, these animals have a beautiful pattern of stripes and spots

on their skin which is why many fishermen like to collect and sell their skin.

Many are also killed for their meat or fins for an Asian delicacy called shark fin soup;

some even have their tails mounted on walls.

Whale sharks are also in danger from less direct attacks such as boat propeller wounds

and getting caught in fishing nets as bycatch by unsuspecting fisherman.

These dangers have led to the whale shark being put on the vulnerable species list.

But luckily there is something you can do to help!

You can support the ban of shark finning, a cruel practice where poachers cut the fins

off of live sharks and then throw them back in to the ocean.

There are also little things you can do, like using less plastic and decreasing your carbon

foot print to help keep our oceans healthy.

And you can also encourage the creation of whale shark sanctuaries and marine protected

areas all around the world.

Even swimming with the whale sharks can help protect these animals and boost the economy

of low income areas via ecotourism.

My name is Puk Vossen and I noticed that this channel has a lot of new followers.

So let me introduce myself again for those new followers!

Its great that you found this channel

I live in The Netherlands, in the city of Rotterdam.

I work as a knitting and crochet teacher

I design and make patterns

And I'm a social media contentmanager

esp for yarnshops, knittingdesigners and woolrelated businesses

In these episodes I'm telling you about my work, my plans

Whats happening in The Netherlands in knitting and crochet

and whats inspiring me.

You see me in my workingspace, my studio

I used to teach here private lessons, but now I'm mostly teaching

on different places all over the country. Also in Rottterdam offcourse, because thats where I live!

I'm also organizing #knit010 walks

the first one in 2018 will be in a few weeks, and there's also one in April

Spring is slowly returning, the last episodes were pretty dark.

I'm not using extra studiolights so I'm really happy with this!

You can see that the light is back, also on my Instagram account, on my pictures. And it makes me really happy.

The past few weeks were busy.

In my private life, it was

I wanted to say 'complex'

But thats not the right word, it was sad, and happy

everything at the same time. And now it looks like its getting back

to normal.

And thats better

It was also busy workwise, and i'm happy to say

that it will stay like this.

Last weekend I visited the city of Antwerpen with my sister

You will see and hear more about that later.

I will put some images/clips extra in this episode

I'm constantly looking down to my planner

The pattern is called: "Halve Delft" because its a half circle, inspired by the city of Delft

with the yarnstore Knotten in Delft. It will start on April 5th.

At that time you'll find all the info in my Ravelry group and there will be a yarnkit available

Really excited about the fact that I'm organising a special walktour in Delft

Date: sunday May 13th around the Market and yarnshop Knotten in Delft.

Its near the big Markt in the citycentre

Will be talking about craft and Delft in the old days

And we'll find out how the city inspired me to design this shawl

Another design what I'm working on these last day is this sock

its made with 5 colors

Plantdyed organic sockwool by Heymamawolf yarns

these little skeins are enough to make the second sock

You'll find more Heymamawolf Yarns at Cross and Woods in The Hague

I'm designing this patterns esp for this type of sockwool

its about 300m on 100gram, so its not fingering

the standard kind of wool (the fingeringweight)

is around the 4-420 meters per 100 grams

So this is really thicker wool

And i'm also working on a new sock now, but it's only in one colour

also made from thicker wool

And you can't see this from this distance, but on instagram you can see it...

this sock has the exact same pattern

So this sock is gonna be the exact same but only in one colour

I don't have a name for this design, so if you have any suggestions

I would love to hear it

The best thing about this pattern is the stitch-pattern

No, im not going to spoil everything, you will read it in the pattern

So how is such a pattern created?

At first, I ask myself: Can I do something with this?, with this colours and this wool

Uhm, yes i can

And then i'm going to take a look at all my stitch-books

I bought this book on a garage sale

I don't know if i have put a date from when i bought it in the book

no

As you can see i have read through it a lot of times, and when i see something intersting i put a post it on the page

and the specific stitch for this sock

Is actually a brother or sister from this stitch

Am I saying this right?

Yes

This was a stitch that i got to know, because i was looking for something that was elastic but not really a ribbing

And this was kind of a in between solution

And then you start to testknit some swatches, and it was not elastic enough for me, so I changed the pattern

If you look closely you can see that there is only one purl stitch each time

And for my own stitch i used two purl stitches

And this means that a kind of colum structure is created

Instead of little spots

It is not always easy to find the right words to explain knitting

But I hope you understand what i mean because of what you can see

So this is kind of like the proces i go through

I look through the pages

I start knitting swatches

I come across a stitch and think; this is going to be the one

and after 4-5 swatches

That I can't show to you because I had to rip them because I could really only use these 5 balls of wool.

So I start making swatches, it has to be right it has to be elastic enough, not too thin not too thick.

That's how the design is created, it costs me enormous amounts of time

So it hurts me that a lot of knitters think, (a lot of people also don't)

But there is a group of people that think that patterns are free

Because they buy wool they expect the pattern to be free next to it

Ofcourse there are shops that offer a free pattern when you buy wool

they will include the price of the pattern in the price of the wool to make sure it's ''free''

But if you look at the time it costs me to make a sock

So not only creating the example but also the time it costs to find the right stitch and the right design for the right colour and the right wool

Is really a proces that takes hours

It's just work, and work has to be payed

So yes I ask money for my patterns

There is a group of patterns for wich i don't charge money

You can find these on Ravelry, under my free patterns

I do this because, when I want to buy a pattern from someone I like to see how they write it first.

So I find it useful to test out their free pattern first

To see which terminology they use, how they wrote it down, if there are pictures included and if it is clear for me

Because not everybody works the same

That is one of the reasons why I have free patterns on Ravelry

But this doesn't mean that all my patterns are free, and they won't become free in the future

Because i've put in a lot of time, effort and love :) in

And it is my job

And if you have a job, you want to get payed

Okay, that was my opinion for a bit

Next to it there is a blue sock

That is the fisher-sock, I was working on that already in my last episode

I finished this sock at that time, I also already showed it to you

And that one belongs to it

On my Ravelry project page you can see it as well

It is a really beautifull pattern from Renée Kies, and i'm really happy with it

But underneath that, what is underneath that?

This is my explanation-bord

I also do chrochet workshops, and this is the explanation-bord to crochet a flower

I will show it from a closer distance for you

You can see from here, all the steps for how you can make a flower

And this is the backside for example

So you can know exactly which step is been done at the moment

And you will notice this maybe when you do workshops

Not everybody works in the same tempo, and this is fine, but I think it's nice to have an explanation-bord

For if you are already at step 3 and your neighbours are at step 1

Then you can already (secretly)

not secretly

You can just look at the bord; what is expected from me and how can I go on from here

So you don't only have the written text from the pattern

But you also see the steps that have to be done

An advantage of this bord is that the flowers are pinned to the bord with pins so you can take them off and look at them closely

So

This is what i made for you, so that you can work clearly

I am going to teach how to Crochet a flower at the "Garenrijk" in Rotterdam

I went to Antwerp with my sis

Last year, we went to Groningen and now to Antwerp in Belgium

I didn't buy any wool! But my sister did, at the lovely Julija's shop in the Nationalestraat.

I bought this at the museumshop of the MAS

Its a book with stickers

round ones, square stickers and long stripes

At the modern museum MAS

Its a special building with stairways to the roof (thats free) from where you have a marvelous skyline

We were lucky, early sundaymorning with lovely sunny weather

in another store, I found postcards

Near the Cathedral, I found this funny one

The best is on the back: the name of the company is Department of unique business

Really a good name

we bought a citycard, you have free transport and acces to the musea.

We went to the Rubenshuis, MASmuseum, Maagdenhuis and the Cathedral

and offcourse lovely food and drinks in the restaurants

DOJ Moves to CRUSH Cali's Sanctuary State Policies

Time's up for California and their brazen, lawless sanctuary state policies.

The DOJ is fighting back and will challenge the "constitutionality" of three of the

state's laws which protect criminal illegals.

From Breitbart

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will speak Wednesday about his Department of Justice's

(DOJ) first-of-its-kind lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of three of California's

"sanctuary" laws, Breitbart News has learned.

Relying on both federal statutes and the U.S. Constitution's Supremacy Clause, DOJ will

ask the U.S. District Court for the District of Eastern California to issue a preliminary

injunction blocking the enforcement of these laws intended to protect illegal aliens by

preventing cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.

DOJ will also seek declaratory judgement that these laws are unconstitutional – "preempted"

by federal immigration law – when it files late Tuesday night.

"The Department of Justice and the Trump administration are going to fight these unjust,

unfair, and unconstitutional policies that have been imposed on you," Attorney General

Sessions is expected to tell a gathering of California police officers Wednesday in Sacramento.

"We are fighting to make your jobs safer and to help you reduce crime in America.

And I believe that we are going to win."

A senior DOJ official made clear that he believed the laws intentionally created obstacles for

federal immigration enforcement in California, the state with most illegal aliens in the

country.

The defendants are the State of California, Gov. Jerry Brown, and California Attorney

General Xavier Becerra – the elected official who, perhaps more than any other, has made

protection of criminal illegal aliens and "resistance" to President Donald Trump's

immigration agenda his signature policy.

The doctrine of "preemption" dictates that, as federal law reigns supreme over state

law, states may not enforce laws that frustrate federal policies.

It has a long history, dating back nearly to the dawn of the Republic with 1819's

McCulloch v. Maryland.

In the immigration context, the doctrine was widely heralded by open borders advocates

in 2012, when the Supreme Court relied on it to strike down sections of Arizona's

tough SB 1070 anti-illegal immigration bill in Arizona v. United States.

The legal shoe is on the other foot now, as the Trump administration seeks to have California's

leading-edge sanctuary laws overturned on a similar theory.

All three laws, passed in response to Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election,

added new dimensions to California's role as the nation's leading "sanctuary"

for illegal aliens.

Not content with being merely a typical sanctuary jurisdiction, where, as a matter of policy,

police do not contact U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents about suspected

illegal aliens, collect information on an arrestee's immigration status, or comply

with requests to hold suspected illegal aliens for ICE pickup, California enacted HB 450,

SB 54, and HB 103.

HB 450 came into effect at the beginning of the year.

It prohibits private employers from cooperating with ICE.

Under the law, if employers do not refuse to allow ICE officials onto their property

without a warrant, they face stiff fines.

If they try to check an employee's immigration status a second time, they face fines.

If they do not inform employees of ICE enforcement efforts about which they know, they face fines.

During the first round of ICE raids after HB 450 went into effect, Becerra was very

clear that his office "will prosecute" employers who cooperate.

A senior DOJ official told reporters if the federal agency involved have been the FBI

rather than ICE, a law like AB 450 would be inconceivable.

He feared that, given its broadest reading, it might prohibit all private property owners

from assisting federal immigration enforcement.

In the case of HB 450, the California State Assembly's Judiciary Committee made clear

they were passing this law specifically because of "an expected increase in federal immigration

enforcement."

SB 54, also coming into effect January 1, affects law enforcement officials, holding

them statewide to the "sanctuary" standard previously in place in cities like San Francisco

under penalty of state law.

Under HB 54, California's police officers and sheriffs cannot provide ICE with the release

dates of the criminal illegal aliens whom they are holdings.

Except for those held for a narrow set of serious crimes, these law enforcement officers

cannot transfer detainees to federal custody voluntarily.

Finally, AB 103 is a 2017 law Becerra has used to "inspect" facilities the Department

of Homeland Security uses to house suspected illegal aliens who are awaiting removal proceedings.

DOJ believes these inspections have demanded access to proprietary DHS documents and information.

The government will first seek to have a preliminary injunction put in place to block enforcement

of all three laws while their constitutionality is considered.

DOJ will therefore have to show some irreparable harm that will come from allowing California

to use these laws in the meantime.

Senior DOJ officials were confident that, with a typical briefing schedule, they expect

a ruling on their preliminary injunction within weeks.

Hi!

My name is Elizabeth Ellmore.

I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a concentration in American politics,

and minor in writing at the University of California, Merced.

I earned my single-subject English teaching credential at the University of La Verne,

and currently I am earning my Masters in Education: Educational Technology at the University of

La Verne.

This project stemmed from English teaching experience in a southern California suburban

school district.

Some school districts are working towards twenty-first century classroom ideology.

One aspect of the ideology is having students utilize technology in the classroom and apply

real-world skills with technology.

Some school districts use Google products and Google Applications for Education (abbreviated

to GAFE) as a way to integrate technology.

Districts provide professional development, but research shows that some English teachers

do not feel like they have enough support to really implement the technology in the

classroom.

Also, some teachers do not believe in using technology in the classroom, and research

shows that teachers should be using technology embedded within the curriculum.

Research also explains the benefits of specifically using GAFE in the classroom.

Based on English teaching experience at a suburban southern California school district's

site, it is observed that teachers have expressed a need for further professional development

tools to help implement technology.

Therefore the idea of creating a How-To Guide for Secondary English teachers (English teachers

who teach English) on implementing GAFE in the classroom sprung to life.

Although there is research proving why this iBook is needed, there is not a research study

proving the outcome of the usefulness this iBook provides.

Nor was there a research study conducted to have participants surveyed on the need for

this iBook.

This iBook, "Googleology Guide for English Teachers: How to Apply Google Suites in Your

Content Area", is organized by chapters.

The first seven chapters are teaching English teachers how to use seven different Google

Applications.

Google Classroom, Google Drive, Google Drawings, Google Forms, Google Slides, Google Docs,

and Google Sheets.

There are screen casted videos showing step-by-step what each function in the application does.

There are some articles that discuss the benefits or creative ways teachers can use some of

these applications, so in that application's specific chapter there will be a reference

link to refer back to the thesis containing that research in the appendix of the book.

Throughout these seven chapters, there is a way for educations to click on certain technology

related terms and understand their definitions and what it means for them.

These seven chapters were created to capture a specific type of English teacher audience.

These chapters would be beneficial for English teachers that do not know how to use the applications

at all.

Chapter eight is beneficial for English teachers that already know about the seven applications

and understand how to use the applications.

This chapter discusses ideas for what English teachers can further do with the applications.

For example, this chapter discusses what kinds of Add-On's English teachers would be most

interested in using and how to use specific Add-On's for each application.

This chapter also contains ideas other English teachers have done with the seven Google Applications,

and this is what can inspire English teachers to try out some of these ideas/suggestions.

These ideas stemmed from public posts on the internet and English teacher based professional

learning communities, which are cited in the iBook.

Chapter nine is where the collaboration with other English teacher's ideas lead to creating

this chapter.

Chapter nine is where the reader is called to action.

Research shows that students learn differently through what is more commonly known as multiple

intelligences.

English teachers are students too and there are teachers that do not just learn through

watching screencast videos on how to do something.

There are English teachers that do not just learn by looking at examples of what other

teachers have done.

There are English teachers that do learn when the collaborate with others, especially within

their own content area, and actually apply the skills they are learning as they are collaborating.

The reader is called to action by taking everything they have learned in the how-to guide and

asked to try out any idea they have learned.

The English teacher is asked to take it into the classroom and share the iBook with another

English teacher at their school site where the other teacher also tries out an idea after

reading.

Thereafter, the teacher's begin to collaborate together and are encouraged and guided through

a discussion guide, found in chapter nine, to implement a professional learning community

(abbreviated for PLC) among them.

The PLC discusses how the implementation of the idea went, what were the strengths, weaknesses,

threats, opportunities, and collaborates over examples of student work.

Furthermore, teachers are asked to post their conversation through clicking a link to Padlet,

which is a free educational website where it gives the audience a post-it to write comments

on and post to a virtual discussion wall.

The Padlet stays open and the idea is that over time as the iBook gains traction and

more English teachers conduct their PLC's, the Padlet will be filled with results on

what English teachers have done based on what they have learned with this iBook.

After chapter nine, the reader is led to the appendix, which contains the thesis of this

project.

The thesis explains in-depth the research and these ideas.

The iBook is filled with screencast videos, links to websites teachers can find helpful/useful,

pictures and explanations on what other English teachers have done with the applications,

key terms hyperlinked, and an opportunity to facilitate a collaborative discussion about

how English teachers have implemented ideas they have learned from the iBook.

A couple of English teachers have collaborated through inspiring the idea for creating a

PLC chapter section and further proving why the iBook is needed.

This iBook is not meant to forgo any official district professional development.

It is simply meant to be an extra tool for English teachers to learn how they can apply

seven Google Applications within their own content area and give ideas on how they can

go further with the applications.

Steps for taking the project further would be to conduct research around how beneficial

the iBook is.

The project is important because it relates to my content area and the experience I have

had in the field among other English teachers.

I have gained further knowledge about Google products and applications, and I have benefitted

from doing this project by being able to have a tangible product that can be useful for

other English teachers.
