Now, I thought it's time for me to make a
very, very basic video
Simply: How to wax!
Now I have painted this cabinet with one single color
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
and the color I have chosen is called Aubusson Blue
I'm not getting the French pronunciation correct, but
anyway...
The reason why it is like this, very blotchy already
is that I have previously waxed and oiled this piece of furniture
Thus, the paint has absorbed the oil a little different in some areas
It attaches great anyway
I noticed
One should not swear himself free from not prep work
on top of oil
of course,
but this time I was lucky, I guess
Water-based paints do not like oil - as simple as that
and even if
Annie Sloan's paints is almost pure magic,
they are still not pure magic
So, water-based paints do not like oil.
Anyway
I'll dark wax this piece of furniture
... is the idea ...
The first time when you wax the furniture ... The color is very porous, so it
wants to absorb the wax very much
Therefore, to saturate the surface,
and to be able to work with the dark wax much easier,
I always use clear wax first
Thus, the transparent wax
That said, it saturates the surface that way
and the color does not absorb the dark wax as much
So that is why
The first thing I do is to apply transparent wax!
To work out the wax now,
I almost always use a wax brush
nowadays
I'm not very diligent to
wash them
so that the wax solidifies course when I let this lie
but now when I have dipped it here
in the wax,
so I can work the wax into the brush and then
soften the bristles again
So what I do is that I dip the brush in wax
and then I see that I
am working it in
and it is this that makes it so much easier
if you use a brush
instead of just a cloth
when working in wax: it's easier to access

may as well work the wax in the surface
in a completely different way
Then...
you should wipe off the excess with
a lint free cloth
in this case, I have just a tissue
and then you can work out the wax
further slightly
while wiping away the excess
If you don't wipe it off - you save far too much wax on the surface
it will partly be clumsy and
surface will feel
sticky, though it is not quite really ...
the surface will not be this mat, fine
it will be
rubbery, one can almost say
and actually more fragile
To seal the paint with wax is not
The more wax gives a more durable surface,
but it is actually easier to destroy if you have too much wax on
But now I'm ready to clear wax all this and then I will show how I usually put on dark waxes!
So...
Clear wax darkens the surface a little
but as it evaporates and
dry the paint will go back a little, not all the way
but as it was before I started waxing.
Then I put away the transparent wax and
I take out my big favorite:
Is to mix black and brown wax
I think it is the optimum antiquing
and then I want to be very careful
sometimes with the dark wax and only access exactly where I want it
so I dipped my brush a little in each jar
and so...
I just go in with my little brush
in these corners
Now then, if I had not applied clear wax before
so had the wax sat down and I had not been able to work it out anything
but now I take my paper here
and since I already have transparent wax, I can go back and wipe away
basically everything
I would now like to light it up even more,
I dip my little paper here
in the transparent wax
and erase more
And you can do like this if you just want dark wax on
some particular areas
Then it is very easy
to blur out here in the middle ...
So you can fade out and get to the really good looking shadows as well.
And this makes it possible to highlight
a lot of details, if you have
very fine cut-out details
So this is how I usually do!
But if I want dark wax on the entire surface
I can kind of just ... so ...
And then...
I take my lint free paper,
and I work out the wax ...
over the entire surface ...
To, kind of, dull the color a bit.
And if I feel like it became too dark here
well, then you just have to go back
and blurring, and pull it further
That, my friends,
this is how you apply wax!
So now I just run in and dark wax all over this
Here, for example, it will of course be seen
because the dark wax will meddle in these notches and
edges and such
and enhance it further. You get like a little
life in the furniture,
I think.
