How do I pick the names of my characters?

It's getting very desperate. (laughter)

I've written a lot of books, as you know, and I'm starting to duplicate names.

We had the humorous Rafe Stryker incident,

which we talked about at dinner last night.

I wrote a sheik book--I don't know which one--

and the hero was Rafe Stryker, but it was long before I was with Jenel.

So when I did the cowboy books,

I can't think of their titles, either.

Reader: All Summer Long

Susan: Oh! Summer Days, Summer Nights, All Summer Long. She's smart. (laughter)

Reader: That's my favorite trilogy.

So they, ah, I had Rafe Stryker. The Stryker brothers.

And a reader said, "Did they get a divorce?

Did he and Zara get a divorce? (laughter)

Because they never mentioned it."

And it's like, "Ahh!"

So, um, it's very hard.

One of the things I do is, I--which is why we have a name list for each series--

but that doesn't help all the time.

So we do a lot of Facebook namings. (Facebook.com/SusanMallery)

I will ask you guys to name something or give me names,

and then I use your name or your last name.

Or, give me the names of twins. In The Friends We Keep, there's twins,

and that came from somebody's granddaughters.

I used their names.

At book signings, if you have an unusual name,

that I know I haven't used, I will write it down.

I have a running list, and I use those.

Jenel--I don't know if I'm allowed to say this--

but I'm going to say it, anyway.

We keep track of your comments on Facebook

in that if you post, and we see a name that we haven't used,

every few months, I get a list. "Here's some Facebook names

that you haven't used." And I keep that list, as well.

So we pull from everywhere.

That's the reason Pallas's name is Pallas.

I had the international baby naming book.

And it was, um, I just flipped through, and I landed on the Greek,

and I read the definition of Pallas, and I thought, "Well, that's just too funny. I have to do that."

And there's names I can't use because

I know someone with that name, and I don't like them.

(laughter)

That's really the big reason.

And of course, I can never have anyone named Susan in a book,

because that would freak me out.

In fact--okay, see, this is why we don't get to many questions.

Years ago, I did a historical continuity

and I think it's Spirit of the Wolf, is the title.

The way it works when you write category continuities,

Editorial comes up with a storyline that covers three books or six books

or twelve books, and they ask you to write a book.

So it comes with a lot of baggage.

You have to work these characters into that kind of a format,

and make the story your own.

And this is set in the 1880s in the West.

The hero is married.

His wife, who is a horrible person,

and her name is Susan, (laughter)

and in a coma.

The heroine comes to nurse her, and over the next three months

the nurse and the hero fall in love

while Susan is still in the marital bed. (laughter)

And then she finally dies, and then

they get together, and that's where the story starts.

So I called them and I said, "I have a list of questions."

Question 1: How committed are we to the name Susan,

because I'm not doing that.

Second, if she's in a coma, how are they keeping her alive?

Do they just use a hollow reed down her throat (laughter)

and pour some broth?

Because wouldn't she just die?

She's not getting food or water for three months.

Even if she's a big girl, the water part is-- (laughter)

And I said, Really? I have worked for however many years

to build a readership that respects what I do,

they're not cheating while the dying you-know-what is in the marital bed!

No! We don't do that in my world. (laughter)

So I was told I was welcome--She was long dead.

I changed her name.

It was a very brief unconscious period,

and then she, as we say in fine language, you know, died. (laughter)

And then we moved on.

So, um, I now have no idea what the question was. (laughter)

work for foundation single crochet so I'm going to put my hook below two loops

right here or you can work through the stitch whichever one you want

wrap the yarn over pull through yarn over pull through one yarn over pull

through two and I'm going to be working four of these total this is the second

foundation single crochet I have two more to complete

this is the third and the fourth right like that

now I'm skipping one two three four five six and I'm working a single crochet in

each stitch until I get up to the side of the head and that's where we will

work the extra three single crochet increase stitches and so any point here

if you wanted to work to right here you sure could work them right there as well

because then that'll help out with it laying flat so I'm working I've got this

is my second set of two and then one my third set of two and then one and then

now I'm going to work all the way across the top of the head here to like it to

the other side and then right here I'm going to work a slip stitch just like

that and that's where I'm going to stop we've completed the top portion of the

skull and I'm just going to cut this off I'm cutting off a little bit here like

What does the co-writer of "The Power Of One" think of Herman Cain? - Duration: 2:39.

Steven: You did mention, of course, Herman Cain. For those who aren't aware, about

4 years ago, he was a politician running for US President. He sort of misattributed your

song. He thought it was from the Summer Olympics and didn't realize it was actually a Donna

Summer song. First of all, how did you find out that that happened, and what was your

reaction there? Mark: It was very easy to find out, because

it was all over the press all over the world. To be honest, it was at the Olympics, but

it wasn't part of the Olympics. NBC would cover the Americans during the Summer Olympics

and at the end of every day, they would have the outtakes of all the events that occurred

during the Olympic games. And, the song was perfect for covering that. The song was used

many times by NBC to cover the Summer Olympics. It wasn't the official song of the Olympic

Games, but the confusion was pretty easy to make.

Steven: Was it funny when it happened? Did it make you feel like you had created something

that was really memorable? Mark: As any artist would tell you, any artist

would be delighted that anyone would be talking about their work. Negative or positive, that's

not for me to say. But the fact that it inspired a conversation on the level for the Presidency

of the United States, it tickled me pink. It really created a very warm feeling in me

that somebody would use something that we created to further their career and use it

as an example of, I think, the courage within themselves. So, any time anyone uses a song,

it's always wonderful. I had a similar experience with Hillary Clinton when she was at a dinner

in New York for the Democrats. They chose my song, "The Power of One" and I got

to perform it actually, with a wonderful singer from Broadway, Lillias White. And the same

thing, it sparked a whole conversation. At the end of the performance, Hillary Clinton

walked on stage, smiled, grabbed my arm and said, "Mark's already summed up my entire

speech in that song. So, any time anyone uses a song for that purpose, that you create as

an artist, it's a wonderful thing. Steven: Just to clarify, that thing with Hillary

Clinton, was that before or after the Herman Cain thing?

Mark: That was before. It was before, yes.

What Holds for SNSD's Future? when SooYoung, SeoHyun and Tiffany Leave SM - AMAZING NEWS - Duration: 4:10.

SNSD has celebrated their 10th year anniversary and had their comeback with Holiday Night.

Their comeback this year was something of legendary since it reminded people and fans of the groups reputation and work of 10 years.

SM Entertainment.

However, though the group seemed to have no trouble during their comeback, the issue of resigning the contract with SM rose to surface and drew attention.  Resigning the contract was not the problem of fiscal matters anymore to SNSD members.

It was not the matter of trouble between members.

Theyve earned enough and went along well enough for 10 years. .

It was about continuing their 10 years of reputation or taking different paths and start a 2nd life in their career.

As a result, SooYoung, SeoHyun and Tiffany did NOT resign the contract with the entertainment, while TaeYeon, YoonA, YuRi, Suuny and HyoYeon stayed.

SM entertainment has officially stated that SNSD will not be disbanded, however, that does not mean that the eight girls would perform as one.

Though the group may exist, the members will not be the same.

Also, there is still a chance that the official statement can change.

Groups such as 2NE1, Kara, 4MINUTES, SISTAR and miss A have all gone through disbandment recently.

It wouldnt be considered strange if SM reports the groups disbandment tomorrow. .

Complex feelings overwhelmed fans as they heard the news.

They understand the three girls  leaving and the five girls staying and theyve all made their own choices.

However the feeling of lost still existed.

Fans say, whether the group disband or not, the legendary group and the years theyve spent would forever live in the memories. .

SooYoung and SeoHyun are both currently shooting dramas.

What holds for their future of SooYoung and SeoHyun after their drama is still unknown, and same goes for Tiffany.  .
