Good morning everybody.
It's a very rainy day.
Rainy Monday.
Here in Da Nang.
This is the view from the hotel that we're about to check out of.
Before we go to Hoi An, about 30 minutes south.
On our last night in Da Nang, we randomly ran into my Korean friend Minji.
Next door to our hotel.
I knew that she was coming to Vietnam, but I had no idea that she was already in the country.
It was such a random coincidence!
So the next morning, we decided to eat at a famous Banh Xeo restaurant together and spend a little time
chatting over coffee before parting ways.
So you just wrap it.
Ta da!
My girlfriend and I had a few hours to kill before going to Hoi An, so we decided to check out
another famous market in Da Nang called Cho Con,
and shop for some goodies to bring back north with us.
There was a fairly large food court area in the market,
but it wasn't very busy during the time we were there.
We were still very full from our banh xeo meal earlier, so we just walked through it to see what it looked like.
After picking up some beef jerky snacks and several jars of fermented sauces, we headed back to the hotel
to get our luggage and head to Hoi An.
Ok, so this is the view out the front of our villa.
We got these nice banana palms and there's some coconut trees.
It's very nice and lush.
And quiet.
Now, the room. Here's the room. Check it out guys.
This is a nice villa.
So you come in, they even gave me a birthday cake, got some 2 oranges.
And they were nice enough to even give me a bouquet
of some roses for my birthday. Kind of strange.
But this is what it looks like inside here. There's a nice little work area, there's a laptop that they provide.
Very chill. And here's the TV.
They have nice vaulted ceilings here, which is awesome, they have these cool terra cotta tiles lining the top.
And check this out.
There's a deep soaking bathtub right behind the bed.
That is so cool.
And they have little white gravel stones.
Got a nice little wardrobe here.
This is the shower.
It's got the rain fall thing there.
These doors open up nice and wide.
Facing the front of the resort.
Very nice, there's an awesome cross-breeze coming through all of these doors.
And this is where the toilet is.
You can see it there.
Standard toilet. It's also got a nice view.
His and hers sink. That's me!
And yeah, this is it. This is the upgraded villa that we're at.
After a little relaxation and napping time, we rode a bicycle provided by the resort
into the ancient town of Hoi An.
The town of Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage site built along the Thu Bon river.
It was established as a trading port city in 1595 A.D. and for the next couple of hundred years,
was regarded as the best trading port in all of Asia by Chinese and Japanese merchants.
The ancient town still preserves the architecture and feel of what the trade port town was like hundreds of years ago.
The town was originally separated between Chinese and Japanese settlements until the Japanese bridge was built.
It's the only known covered bridge with an actual Buddhist temple attached to the side of it.
Alright, we're on a little boat here on the river, right here in the old ancient Hoi An town.
And you can take this ride around for maybe like 15 to 20 minutes or so.
And you can also buy these little floating paper lotus things, with the candles inside.
And you can put them on the river. And there's a lot of people trying to get you to do it.
And they'll over charge a lot of toursts, so just be careful you don't get scammed.
But this is still a nice evening view, as you can see in the background, there's just lanterns everywhere.
It's very beautiful. And very serene.
And the boat ride is very slow and smooth so this is one of those pretty cool and unique experiences here in Hoi An.
Alright we're here at the Hoi An night market and we're going to try some Banh Chuoi Thai, and this is banana pancake.
So it's essentially a crepe and it's got like banana mixed in with the batter.
And then they drizzled some chocolate sauce all over it.
Oh, it's very hot!
Let's get another one before we hit the road.
Hot!
Ok, this is Hu Tieu.
And I'm going to be spoon-fed some noodles with the soup.
There it is. Looks very hot.
Woah! Wow!
Those noodles, what are they? Is it rice noodle?
It's very chewy! Mmm!
Oh, that's a good piece of pork. Mmm!
This soup is like surprisingly thin.
Very clean.
I thought it was going to be more thick, and like really strong flavors, but it's actually pretty subtle.
And those noodles, those chewy noodles, it goes really well with all those flavors, and the meat.
That's a nice dish!
Since we didn't have any time to see the beach in Da Nang, we made a point to have some quality each time in Hoi An.
It was just a quick bicycle ride from the resort to Camh An beach.
This is my new friend right here.
Chillin'.
Eating some grass.
Alright, we got lost a little bit on the way to the beach, but we're here!
So many people wonder why do I wear a hat in every single one of my videos.
For years. And all my photos and stuff.
Uh, it's because my hair. My hair is essentially pubic hair on the top of my head.
Plus, my hair line is receeding. My hairline has been receeding since I was about 31 years old.
I went through a very stressful time around 30, 31.
And yeah, so, this is extremely hard to manage.
And it literally looks like pubic hair.
I used to have a lot more hair, I'm getting older now.
I turn 36 in a few days, and oh!
By the way, I want to give a big shout out to my brother who does turn 34 today!
So me and my brother are both born on the 2nd Monday of October.
His is October 10th, mine is October 12th.
So big shout out to my brother Brian, I love you.
And it was good to see you in Vietnam a few weeks ago.
Yeah, so, I digress, but that is why...
You can see my hair is really fucked up.
Anyway, I just don't care anymore.
Yeah, anyway. That's the truth guys.
After several hours at the beach and then a nap back at the resort, we went back to the ancient town of Hoi An to see more and eat more.
Hoi An is famous for their Banh Mi sandwiches, so we decided to check out this spot called
Banh Mi Phuong.
Many of you will remember it as a street food cart in an episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain.
But now, it's grown into a full-sized restaurant.
That's a lot better than any Banh Mi I've had in Hanoi.
There's a lot of meat on there,
nice spicy sauce,
good cucumbers,
nice bread.
It's nice!
We're river-side right now, we kind of came a little bit late so you can see behind us
there's like empty seats and stuff.
Usually a little bit earlier, around sunset and not too long after, there's just a ton of street food lined up along the river bank here.
But we're here at almost 9 o'clock, I think, and so most of the people have kind of gone home.
But we did find a few places open, and so now we're going to have some BBQ pork on some skewers river-side.
So the meat is pretty much like places between 2 chopsticks that haven't been fully split.
So you can kind of see it together right there.
Get a bunch of greens.
On your rice paper.
Ta da!
And then you dip it in some of this sauce here, I'm not sure what it's made of.
And then eat it.
And of course, with anything in Vietnam where you see the rice paper, you don't have to wrap it, you can
just eat the stuff as is. So that's what I'm going to do.
Got the nice little charred little crispy bits on the end there that got burnt in the fire.
Hey, look at that dragon!
Ok guys, this is it. Trung Vit Lon, this is a half-developed egg.
And this is duck. And we're going to try this street food right now.
This is something that I've been meaning to try for the past 4 months, and I'm finally going to do it here in Hoi An.
Mmm. I feel like I'm eating chicken.
It's really good.
And dipped in with that salt & pepper with the lime, that's a nice touch.
I don't know if you can tell,
but, it's kind of got partially developed duck. You can see like some body parts. Let's try it out.
That's like eating a hard-boiled egg.
That's some pickled radish. Ooh! That pickled radish is spicy!
Mmmm!
Paired with the egg taste, I swear guys, it looks gross but it tastes like a hard-boiled egg.
Yeah, see? It's like an actual egg, you can see the yolk and some white, but then there's the membrane and stuff on the outside.
It's not fully developed where there's going to be like bone or anything like that, it's actually really soft.
I don't feel any feathers or bone, or anything like that.
It's just straight up an egg that looks weird.
Very hearty!
Very filling, wow!
I think all the little additions of the spicy pickled radish, plus the little herbs, mint thing,
it's good!
Good morning everybody, it's our last day here in Hoi An.
And of course we got to start off with some coffee.
Very crucial. Very necessary.
And of course, here is my breakfast plate.
So I got some good stuff here. Lots of fruit, some pancakes,
ham, bacon, cheese, some cinnamon roll.
We do have to check out and then eventually go to the airport in Da Nang,
and head all the way back to Hanoi. It's been a fun adventure.
And hopefully I can capture a few more things before getting back to Hanoi.
Alright, we got a few hours to kill, and we decided to just come back to the beach.
Spend about one hour here, before going to the Coconut Forest.
For the last activit, here in Hoi An, before we go.
And so we got one of our beach chairs here along the nice coast.
There's pretty much nobody, as you can see, all the chairs are empty.
So it's really nice today.
Just ordered some coconut juice, and you guys got to check out the size of this coconut.
I have no idea if you can tell, scale-wise, on your screens and what not
but like here's my hand.
I have pretty big hands.
Now this is freaking ginormous, I can't even put my hand around it.
Like, this is very heavy. OMG.
That is one heavy coconut. OMG I'm going to drop it.
We're on the way to the Coconut Forest, and we're really on some back-country roads here.
On our bicycles.
Very bumpy.
But nice
Country house bathroom.
If two people have to go, you can become buddies. Poop buddies.
So we're going to be riding in one of these basket boats.
The Bay Mau coconut grove is located in Camh Thanh village, just 3km east of Hoi An's ancient town.
The water and silt from the Thu Bon river gets filtered through this delta region before heading into the ocean.
During our basket boat ride, our guide took us to this open area of water in the middle of all the Nipa palms
and said that this was where a bomb was dropped by U.S. Forces during the Vietnam War.
It's a sobering experience to be floating through a bomb crater.
You guys, I found it! FREE BEER!!!
Just kidding. This is the worst advertising ever.
FREE wifi. great draft BEER.
Alright guys, the trip to Da Nang and Hoi An has come to an end.
At the airport now, waiting for our flight.
And as usual, my airport tradition is to find some kind of a beer while I'm waiting.
And we have about 1 hour before the flight, so why not grab a tall glass of draft beer.
We hope you guys enjoyed all the food, all the fun adventures, and the little things that we saw along the way.
Thank you guys for all your support, really hope you enjoyed this video.
