Youtube daily report Oct 25 2017

Susie loves her G-town Radio.

She loves it so much she listens to it all-day, every day, wherever she goes.

Every day, G-town Radio serves up a diverse variety of programs:

Music, Talk, and Community.

But how does Susie fit G-town in with her busy, modern-day schedule?

Let's take a look at a day in the life of Susie:

A Day With G-town!

Every morning Susie wakes up in her 20th century refurbished loft.

She starts her day by tuning her restored antique transistor clock radio to:

92.9 FM, WGGT-LP

From Wednesday afternoon (12:00 PM) through Sunday evening (12:00 AM) EST

she gets served a heaping helping of funky-fresh beats, delivered through the airwaves

courtesy of G-town Radio's new LPFM tower.

I just can't start my day off without those sweet tunes!

Later that day Susie prepares avocado toast in her restored antique kitchen.

The vintage, masonry walls make radio reception quite difficult.

What is Susie to do???

G-town Radio is there!

Susie makes a request to her favorite automated home assistant!

Hey Allison, play G-town Radio!

Now Playing G-town Radio!

Now she can hear the dulcet tones of Ed Feldman every weekday morning

from 9:00 to 10:30 AM [EST].

It's not a balanced breakfast without the morning feed!

Now it's time for Susie's commute to the local cooperative farm.

Unfortunately, her commute takes her outside the G-town Radio broadcast area.

Looks like trouble for Susie!

Not to worry, G-town is there!

She uses her favorite internet radio program to listen live to the hand-crafted selections

of Tom Casetta, every Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM [EST] delivered to her

phone anywhere in the world.

I get though my rush hour with some deep cuts!

That evening, Susie returns home.

She likes to relax with eclectic selections of Reade McCardell's FEWSH

Monday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM [EST].

However, this past Monday she was busy giving baths to puppies at the local rescue shelter.

Once again, G-town is there!

She visits gtownradio.com to catch up on the programs she missed,

and find information on other G-town programs.

And with just a few steps, recordings of her favorite shows come to her,

wherever, whenever, any time, on any device all according to her schedule.

Dark Alley Knife Fights make my night just right!

And now you have lived a day with G-town!

In the morning, at the home, on the go, and on your time, G-town Radio is there!

From Germantown, to Philadelphia, to the World!

G-town Radio: The Sound From Germantown

Thanks G-town!

Thank you, Susie!

Waar komt de naam conservatorium vandaan? - Duration: 11:19.

The conservatory, where musicians master their instrument,

singers get to know their voice and composers write out their ideas.

But where does the name 'conservatory' come from?

The word 'conservatory' reminds us of a tin can,

which preserves or conserves things for a long time.

That's what a conservatory did, as well.

So, what was being conserved?

It wasn't baked beans.

Italian conservatorios 'conserved' orphans, foundlings or bastards.

You may ask: How is that related to music?

Venice had such an orphanage.

It was actually a hospital: Ospedale della Pietà.

And it offered music lessons.

Venice's Ospedale della Pietà was founded in the 14th century

and housed both boys and girls.

The boys were taught a trade and had to leave at age fifteen.

Girls could stay longer.

They learned to cook, sew and do the laundry.

And the best girls in the class could join the orphanage's orchestra.

Why only the girls?

Good question. Simple answer: the Ospedale needed money.

Therefore, the orphanage organized its own concerts,

with its own orchestra and choir,

completely made up of female musicians.

That was something new. For example, a female bassoon player.

That had never been seen before, so everyone came to see it:

wealthy Venetians and people from all corners of Europe, alike.

Most of the backers were men.

If you see a lovely lady playing an instrument, it softens you up.

So, the men added an extra donation to the pot.

The Ospedale della Pietà orchestra had sixty musicians, all female.

That is quite a few.

Their most important instructor was Antonio Vivaldi.

Vivaldi taught there from the time he was 25 until he was 62.

He taught violin and music theory, was choir master

and taught the children how to play new instruments.

It was more than a full-time job, and many of Vivaldi's pieces premiered

at Ospedale della Pietà in Venice.

Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra in A minor RV497 (ca. 1720)

Did Venice have the only conservatory?

Of course not. If you were a man who wanted to work with music,

you had to go to Naples.

Naples had not one, but four conservatories.

They were very well established music academies.

The conservatory trend caught on in France.

In 1784, in Paris, an institute for singers was established.

Eleven years later, it was dubbed

Le Conservatoire National de Musique et d'Art Dramatique.

That was in 1795, not long after the French Revolution

and in the time of the Enlightenment.

A new regime meant a new institution.

The Paris conservatory's main goal was to prepare musicians

for large concerts, parties

and celebrations of the new French Republic.

One French composer who was in the thick of it all

was François-Joseph Gossec.

We know his works, and they speak volumes, politically.

come, children of the Fatherland

the day of glory has arrived

And many others, as well, like Nadia Boulanger,

Claude Debussy, Erik Satie, Georges Bizet, Brigitte Bardot

and Gabriel Fauré.

Elsewhere in Europe, as well, conservatories start cropping up.

For example, in Naples, Milan, Vienna, Prague

and in Germany, as Felix Mendelssohn decided

to open a conservatory in Leipzig, with Robert Schumann's help.

One of Leipzig's most famous students was Edvard Grieg.

Nearly 20 years after Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig conservatory,

Moscow and St. Petersburg caught the conservatory bug.

Russia had a problem, as many foreign musicians

from Germany, Italy and Bohemia

went to Russia to play with orchestras,

filling job openings there.

In doing so, they actually took away Russian musicians' jobs.

Something had to be done.

Russia needed its own professional musicians,

so a conservatory was built in St. Petersburg in 1862,

by a Russian musician and composer, Anton Rubinstein.

Many famous composers studied there, including Sergei Prokofiev,

Dmitri Shostakovich, Peter Tchaikovsky

and a man who taught there for more than 40 years,

known as Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov

Russian Easter Festival Overture, Op. 36 (1888)

Four years after the conservatory in St. Petersburg opened,

another conservatory was built in Moscow,

again by a Rubinstein.

Not Anton Rubinstein, but his brother, Nikolai Rubinstein.

Take a look outside the Moscow Conservatory:

there is a huge statue

of the conservatory's first director, Peter Tchaikovsky.

Peter Tchaikovsky

Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D Major, Op. 35 (1878)

And the rest of the West?

They had them, too.

Twenty years after the Russian conservatories opened,

London, England, caught on to the idea.

In 1882, the Royal College of Music was established there.

It goes without saying, another impressive list of composers

graced its halls:

Ralph Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten or Gustav Holst.

In the USA, the New World, it was time for a conservatory,

thanks to Jeanette Thurber, a wealthy American woman.

She had studied at the conservatory in Paris,

and she wanted to introduce that French model in America,

nearly 100 years after the conservatory in Paris was founded.

1885. The National Conservatory of Music.

She had someone in mind to serve as the new conservatory's director:

Antonín Dvorák.

Antonín Dvorák -String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, Op. 96 (1893)

But Jeanette Thurber's money dried up, and she had to close

the National Conservatory of Music.

It had also seen a lot more competition in the 1920s

from another conservatory, which is still around today:

The Juilliard School. When you say Julliard,

it calls to mind: Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Chick Corea,

but also Nina Simone.

And Henry Mancini.

But the U.S. is so much more than New York.

Philadelphia has a prestigious conservatory,

the Curtis Institute of Music.

Very few students go there. It's very difficult to get in.

Some very big names went there,

such as Lang Lang and Leonard Bernstein.

Leonard Bernstein -Maria from West Side Story

by José Carreras (1985)

What about Belgium?

Belgium became independent in 1830. Two years later, it was time

for us to open our own conservatory.

We also looked at how the French did it.

The conservatory on Rue de la Régence in Brussels

is a very subtle copy of one of the wings of the Louvre.

The conservatory's first music director

was brought to Brussels from Paris, at the special request of our king,

Leopold I.

This director went by the name of François-Joseph Fétis.

François-Joseph Fétis

Fantaisie Symphonique for Organ and Orchestra (1866)

But you can also study music in Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Leuven

and Wallonia, in Liège and Mons: plenty of choices.

And what should we remember?

What should you remember?

Conservatories are where beautiful music is made and taught.

They lend prestige to your city.

They're also where the latest generation's sound comes to be.

And it's possible that baked beans are served there.

Klara Stay amazed.

Post-apocalypse - Duration: 10:42.

I tried to find out why

they transferred to my account so little money

in the pay day.

AND? All right,

I just earn too little.

You know, guys... it's not even an anecdote.

This is a harsh Russian reality.

Aren't you agree? We begin.

Our people's servants came up

with another exaction for us.

I'm talking about a new tax,

or kind of a tax, I don't know what to call it.

Generally, the compulsory paid registration of pets.

Lawmakers were fertile

with this idea for many years.

But were not sure of how it could be done.

At first it was suggested

simply registering pets.

Then there was an idea

to give animals some kind of passports,

even with address in it.

I was amused- you go to the passport office

or to the federal migration service

to register a cat. Or fish.

Then there was an idea with chipping.

Finally the government and the Duma begot it:

a little of everything. And very soon.

Now the document is preparing

for the third reading in parliament.

Whiskers, paws and tails are not documents.

The draft for mandatory registration

of animals is being processed

in the government before

the third reading in the State Duma.

Today all registration activities

with your cats and dogs are voluntary.

The only duty of owners is to vaccinate

pets before they go abroad.

The rest is up to owners:

chipping, registration at residential address...

By the way, now chip infusion

costs up to ₽2,000 ($35 US).

- If you look at the RF Civil Code,

it's written long ago that animal

is the property, and accordingly there is an owner.

I hope when we adopt the law

on the care to animals,

they will become living beings

and accordingly the status of the owner

can be secured with the State Register of Animals.

Well, on the one hand, I agree.

A person who gets a pet,

must understand the responsibility for this animal.

This is not a toy that you threw away

after it becomes boring.

Unfortunately, in our country

it often happens this way.

On the other hand, I live in Russia

and understand that this will be nothing,

but another exaction.

Also the burden of this

will fall on the responsible citizens.

Irresponsible ones will simply throw these cats,

dogs, hamsters... to skip a pay.

And we will have to pay for those

thrown out, too. For the opening of shelters,

for the creation of special units

for capturing vagrant livestock.

And blah-blah-blah.

In one phrase- a good thing started,

but wrong people will get a bash on the bonce again.

This is "Real Journalism", today about responsibility.

Let's roll!

This story was sent to me

from Navalny's headquarters in Perm.

It's about responsibility, too.

Or rather about a super responsible

policemen who, as usual in recent times,

not fighting with crime but catching

on the streets politically incorrect citizens.

On the next video- a young man

Sergei Ukhov with a one-year-old child in his arms.

He became a bandit after he took

a balloon with the inscription Navalny-2018

and an opposition newspaper in his hands.

It didn't take long for crime-fighters

to take measures for detaining the hooligan.

Attention to the screen.

-Explain what is happening here?

I'm the press.

Dear, I'm a journalist,

explain what's going on?

What's going on here,

respond to the press, please

-Go away...

- I'm a journalist, are you in charge here?

Answer, what is the illegal action here?

-Keep going...

-You have no rights to detain a person

with a small child ...

You have no rights to detain a person

with a small child ...

You have no rights to take him to the police ...

You see- a few policemen, a whole crowd,

trying to twist one one guy...

with a baby in his arms.

By the way, earlier the centurions packed

mother of this baby, the wife of Sergei.

The next day woman was convicted

and sentenced to a fine- ₽5,000 (about $100 US).

I'm curious- what was the charge?

Was in the wrong place with a balloon and a newspaper?

As for Sergei, passers-by stood up for him

and saved him and baby.

The police had to release the dangerous criminal.

- What is it?..

-And what do you call it? Do not push ...

He has a child in his arms, he ...

- In 2 weeks I will come with pleasure, with pleasure ...

- Tell me, why did they try to detain him?

Speaking of...

according to unconfirmed information,

police officers acted by the unofficial order

of the Perm governor Reshetnikov - to fetch!

My question here: since when the police

in our country is under jurisdiction of the governors?

Want to ask the police too:

guys, aren't you disgusted of yourself?

Aren't you people, or what?

To fight with your peoples,

especially with women and children- the last thing.

Moving to Tyumen. There officials rock, too,

showing miracles of caring for citizens.

So ...

Once upon a time there lived in the city of Tyumen,

the capital of villages, ordinary people -

a large family of Zakomaldins.

Dad, Mom and four of their kids.

Lived meagerly, six of them in a ten-meter room

in a bedsit apartment. Twenty years ago

the city administration allocated this room to them.

All documents in right order-

a residence permit, a warrant... all tip-top.

Ten years ago in this apartment

inventory was carried out.

Something was confused with the numbering of rooms there.

And now the whole thing has come up.

What do you think happened next? Right.

Now the Zakomaldins are being evicted.

Because of someone's mistakes a decade ago,

it turns out that people arbitrarily

settled in that apartment. Look yourself.

- My husband was working in the Department

of Private Security at that time,

and as a young family,

we had a daughter in our hands then,

we were given this little room, 10.5 sq. meters.

The administration of the Leninsky district

gave the permission. They had a queue

of doctors, young families ...

Luckily, our application passed ...

-Were you happy, huh?

-Oh, over the top!

All these years, the Zakomaldins thought

they were living in room 701,

but were evicting from room 704.

in room 704 live other people.

They were also summoned to court as defendants.

-Someone wrote such... They were told

to write the numbering when they built this hostel,

and they wrote inside out. And we live like this ...

Where else such can happen?

In what other socially responsible state?

Some wizard specialist came,

messed up there. Then he left

and forgot that he was here at all.

As a consequence, people now have problems.

They have to hunt the doors of courts,

officials, proving their innocence.

Most likely they will have to spend on lawyers:

citizens have right to free legal aid only on paper.

Yet, did anyone try this free aid?

Such help is no more than an article in Wikipedia.

You want to get quality help- pay.

Although Zakomaldins were lucky.

With help of the journalists they reach

the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the region.

And it turned out- they are not alone.

-With the head Alexander Moor we agreed

that in the course of the planned work

on the identification of illegally occupied living quarters,

if they are found and a family with children lives there,

the information is sent to us.

We are ready to assist parents ...

Well, it's all great, of course...

But what if Zakomaldins had no children?

Or grown ones already. They would be

just out on the street, right?

The second interesting point- who will be

responsible for such bungling?

It is obvious that people were hostages of the situation.

Someone's unprofessional and careless attitude

to their duties. And now,

bunch of people was dragged in this stupid story.

The victims themselves, lawyers, journalists,

judges, the institution of the Commissioner

for the Rights of the Child... and many more.

This situation, or rather its solution,

funded again by us- the taxpayers.

So I'll repeat- will be anyone accountable for it?

Although, it's a rhetorical questions.

And to whom? To myself? Well,

I know the answer... Okay, it's time to round up.

It was "Real Journalism" and today like this.

The topic of responsibility was discussed.

Sensations didn't happen again.

On my page in Youtube - a link to it right above -

there are lots of such non-sensational materials.

Come, enjoy. Do not forget to subscribe to the channel.

In social networks, too, look for me...

There is also a lot of interesting things.

Append to my friends, suggest topics-

we'll raise and discuss them.

I hasten to bow now.

-Mom... -What?

-Why are you so stupid?

-Was born like this...

-Got it...
