so today! tadaa its a 7-11 Haul of all the sweets they sell

when you head over there at this hour they had such a selection which was awesome

it depends on the time you get there but sometimes they are sold out of particular sweets

so what I bought today are: dorayaki with big bits of sweet bean

chewy tiramisu dorayaki, ~ and stuff ~

~ stuff continued ~

~ even more stuff ~

I think that this adds up to a grand total of 22

and the final price was 4,275 yen (bout fiddy bucks)

ahhh feels like I just finished a load of work itadakimasu

halloween is coming up pretty quick and there were quite a lot of halloween treats today

first up is this squash and yam parfait

its got squash and dango (mochi) yams and all sorts of things

this must be a coffee jelly in here as well

the mochi is so soft

for a cold sweet I'm so amazed by how they were able to bundle in a mochi that is this soft

and its also got a squash mouse and this thing I thought was a coffee jelly turned out to be a condensed caramel

? when pairing japanese and foreign flavors it makes everything taste that much better ? (can't properly hear when she covers her mouth)

this parfait is totes yummy

next up is this a chewy choco cream roll

this is very halloween-y

when looking all these over they're mostly all halloween themed

looks so yummy

so chewy the choco cream is so rich and tasty

next is a squash monblanc

filled with so much cream

there are so many yummy things to enjoy in the fall

I love squash and yam because they're so sweet

next is a chewy tiramisu in dorayaki form

pitch black

so chewy

the whipped cheese is so sweet with that slight bitter flavor from coffee... its so yummy

its got a real tiramisu feel to it

a brand new item its a custard pudding

its even got caramel in it

so yummy when you mix it together with the caramel

melty mochi and vanila cookie cream

within a mochi exterior its filled with vanila cream and choco chips I totally love these "mochi toro" series of treats

next is rich fromage triangle

this has been around since forever

the cheese is so rich sweet and yummy

and underneath here its got a crushed cookie layer

next is a milk tea gateau chocolat

this is my first time seeing and eating this I've only had their gateaux chocolat

I totally suck at opening these things aren't these crazy tough to open nicely?

7-11 usually makes their packages easy to open but these triangle things are the only ones I really suck at opening

ahh I crushed it

its got a slight bitterness to it and its also got this milk tea flavor to it that goes so nicely with it

next is a rich tiramisu these tiramisu are gradually getting bigger and bigger

so much cream

super delish

the sponge has soaked up all the syrup and its slightly foamy and the cream is so nice and light... fluffy

next is a camembert cheese souffle

this is so very foamy/light

its so moist and foamy

next is a matcha tiramisu there are so many tiramisu style treats

this has got a nice cream and matcha look to it

since I like creamy things these tiramisu style things are totally my kind of thing

that matcha flavor is so nice oh wait after a closer look its a matcha tiratisu instead

WTF is a tiratisu? so its not a tiramisu at all

its got tiratisu mousse and matcha tiratisu in it

tiratisu..... WAT dat?

you can get all sorts of sweet treats from a convenience store

its really filled with a lot of cream and underneath is a mousse so yummy

next is their famous 7 choux

I love the smell of these choux creams

within this "bouncy" choux cream exterior its filled with a lot of custard cream its even got vanilla beans in here

next is mochi with soy powder 'warabi mochi'

the mochi is so jiggly

there is molasses inside the mochi

next big bits of sweet bean and whipped cream in a dorayaki

its pretty big

its filled with anko sweet bean and whipped cream

when you mix anko and whipped cream it gives the sweet beans that milkiness that is so yummy

this is another one of 7-11's famous treats its " THE 7 ROLL "

its so fluffy

the cake surrounding it tastes so nice and eggy

only 7 remain

next is a japanese-y pudding

you can really taste that 'houji tea' flavor

there was still a halloween product left still its a rich squash pudding

its got a bit of Kawaii cream on top

the squash is sooooo~ rich~

all these limited seasonal items are all so yummy

this pudding really tastes like pumpkin it even goes great with the caramel

next is almond tofu

this is so melt in your mouth

I love the flavor as well

next up is a mocha coffee jelly

its so extravagant!! there is so much more mousse and cream and all sorts

of things rather than coffee jelly

you can taste both chocolate and coffee at the same time

next is a satsuma yam this is probably the most popular one out of all these products

as you can see its such a spectacular colored bun

the satsuma yam cream inside is soooo~ rich~~~

all those satsuma lovers out there will go crazy for these

this an italian style montblanc

on a sponge cake there is chestnut paste whipped cream and chestnut montblanc cream

montblanc are so yummy they're so creamy and yummy

( chestnut and cream pun ) (just nod and giggle profusely)

last up is custard eau claire it says here its an "Egg Royale"

and Egg Royale is: born through the ideas of a pastry chef

I had no idea that such an egg existed

so yummy

I didn't get any of the cream in that bite

so jam packed with cream

goes perfectly with chocolate

last mouthful

all done gochisosamadeshita

7-11's sweets were so yummy

I was in heaven being able to eat so many of them

I arrived there just as they had a lot of their sweets still available

being able to chow down on sweets and enjoy them with coffee is the 'bestest'

its amazing that you can pick up all these different sorts of sweets from a convenience store

Why Don't Snakes and Many Other Animals Get Sunburned? - Duration: 3:36.

Without a protective coating of feathers, fur or scales, pretty much any animal with

exposed skin can get a sunburn; luckily, most animals have adapted methods of avoiding the

sun and mitigating the damage.

Farmers have long known that naked animals, like freshly shorn sheep and domesticated

pigs (who've had their thick coating of back hair bred out of them), can get a sunburn.

In fact, although uncommon, even light-furred and hairless dogs and cats have been known

to burn.

Likewise, naturalists have observed burns from ultraviolet radiation on elephants and

rhinoceroses, and in fact, even whales, fish, amphibians and dolphins occasionally get a

burn from the sun.

In research published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society in 2010, scientists reported

that certain whale species, notably the relatively light-skinned blue whale, not only would suffer

from sunburn, but that the rate of sunburn in the marine mammals was increasing over

time.

The researchers theorized that ozone layer loss and thinning cloud cover could potentially

be to blame for the increase.

Those same scientists also found that, even though sperm whales spend significantly more

time on the surface in between dives (7 to 10 minutes) when compared with blue whales

(about 2 minutes), the darker sperm whales were far less likely to suffer from sunburn.

Further research also revealed that the sperm whales' skin has a protective protein that

inhibits UV cellular damage.

Notably, although the blue whales' incidences of sunburns were increasing, the scientists

did find evidence that the species is able to tan, so sun exposure did not always result

in such damage.

Likewise, many land animals have also adapted methods of protection from the sun.

For example, pigs and rhinoceroses wallow in mud, as do elephants who are also known

to seek out shade, toss dirt and sand on their backs and create protective shadows for their

little ones.

Hippos secrete an oily, pinkish-red liquid, particularly around their ears and faces (the

only parts typically above the water's surface for any length of time) that absorbs ultraviolet

light and also is, apparently, naturally antibiotic.

As for snakes and other reptiles that at times bask in the sun, their inner epidermis is

protected from UV rays via their scales, which also function to help retain moisture underneath,

among other things.

For these animals, they would typically die from overheating before any threat of sunburn

became a problem.

A review published in JAMA Dermatology in January of 2014 showed that exposure to the

UV wavelengths associated with indoor tanning beds account for nearly twice as many skin

cancer diagnosis as smoking does lung cancer in the United States- about 400,000 annually

for tanning beds, compared to 200,000 from smoking.

Further, even just one tanning bed session increases your risk of getting melanoma- the

deadliest form of skin cancer- by 75%.

This is why the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American

Academy of Dermatology, the Skin Cancer Foundation, and the World Health Organization have all

called on every state to ban children under 18 from using tanning salons.

Respect for veterans should be an absolute priority for Americans of all political beliefs.

Veterans fought for us and lost friends so we could continue to live in our free society.

Now as the Blaze reports, a veteran has been severely punished after leaving a football

game where players kneeled for the anthem.

The individual this happened to is 67-year-old Air Force veteran Jim Saddler who was actually

a former flight attendant for Air Force One under President Ronald Reagan.

Saddler now works as an usher at Indiana Pacers games, and does some part-time work as a referee

at high school volleyball, softball and basketball.

In other words, he's a very good man who wants to give back to his community.

What happened, unfortunately, however, is that Saddler was working as a referee at a

high school volleyball game on Oct. 9 at North Central High School when he saw fans sitting

in the bleachers during the national anthem.

He didn't like it but he just ignored it.

Then, however, he saw a player who took a knee during the anthem and was too disgusted

to just stand there.

Saddler left the school and put down his referee flag on the table and told the coach he was

gone because he didn't want to work at a game where America was disrespected.

He left $20 to cover his salary he would have been paid for the referee work.

Soon after Saddler found out he'd been suspended by the Indiana High School Athletic Association

(IHSAA) for over one year!

He is furious and he doesn't understand why he's the one in trouble here, but also

has said sorry he let his disappointment at the kneeling get the better of him.

"In the Air Force, you have a duty, and you do it.

The same with sporting events.

I guess I went AWOL.

I feel bad about it," Saddler said, but explaining that "What they did just upset

me so badly that I just could not stay there."

Seeing a player kneel just really got his goat.

"I know it's her constitutional right to do what she wants to do.

And it wasn't fair to the other girls who were standing and respecting the flag.

After I thought about it, you know, sometimes it takes you a little time to sit down and

think about stuff and what you did.

And after I thought about it, I would never ever do that again," Saddler said.

"I would never break a contract."

Saddler apologized to IHSAA after finding out he was suspended, but was told there's

no chance of coming back before the suspension is up.

"I don't think the IHSAA (cared) about what I said or what I did or that I said I

wouldn't do it again.

Here I am a retired veteran, you have to see my point of view of what I did.

Right?" he asked.

The North Central athletic director, Paul Loggan, said Saddler is a good worker who

hasn't had previous problems, but he's not going to change the suspension.

How to not use the getResultStream method - Duration: 10:45.

Hi,

I'm Thorben Janssen from thoughts-on-java.org and today, I will show you

a few things you shouldn't do when you retrieve your query result

as a Stream

JPA 2.2 added the getResultStream method to the Query interface.

It provides you the query result as a Stream

so that you can process it with the Stream API.

But before you do that, please watch this video.

There are several things you shouldn't do with your Stream

because the database can do them much better.

And I summarized all of them in a handy cheat sheet

which I share at the end of this video.

But before I talk about all the things you should avoid,

let's take a quick look at the getResultStream method.

You can see a simple example here on the slide.

It was added to the Query interface and when you execute a query,

you just call the getResultStream method

instead of the getResultList method.

The rest of the API didn't change.

So, you can create the query, set bind parameter values

and limit the number of selected records

in the same way as you did in JPA 2.1.

The method and its intention are described by the JPA specification.

But the implementation depends on the persistence provider,

and you should check the documentation and code before you use it.

The default implementation, provided by the Query interface,

just calls the getResultList method to retrieve the result set as a List

and calls the stream method to transform it into a Stream.

This approach doesn't provide any benefits

compared to the getResultList method available in JPA 2.1.

But it's to be expected that most JPA implementations

provide their own implementation of the getResultStream method.

Hibernate, for example, introduced its stream method in version 5.2

and I would be surprised if they don't reuse it

for JPA's getResultStream method.

It uses Hibernate's ScrollableResult implementation

to move through the result set

and to fetch the records in batches.

That prevents you from loading all records of the result set at once

and allows you to process them more efficiently.

Since the introduction of Streams in Java 8,

I saw a lot of examples on blogs and in forum posts

They are often used to process huge amounts of data.

The Stream API was designed for that, and

it's a great way to process data that you read from a file

or got via an API call.

But be careful, if you got your data from a database.

You can, of course, use the Stream API to

process selected entities or DTOs.

But there are several things that the database

can do a lot better than your Java code.

So, make sure to distribute the processing steps

intelligently so that you use the database

and your business tier as efficiently as possible.

Here are a few things you should better do within your query

and not via the Java Stream API.

The filtering of elements in a Stream was one of the first examples

that I saw when Java 8 introduced the Stream API.

The filter method allows you to select the elements

in the Stream that fulfill certain criteria.

Its implementation is easy and for some Java developers,

it's more comfortable to implement the filter criteria in the Java code

instead of the JPQL query.

But that's something you shouldn't do.

Databases are optimized for this use case

and can do that a lot faster.

So please,

don't implement any additional filter when you process your Stream.

You should better use JPQL or the Criteria API

to specify the filter criteria in your query.

And if that's not possible,

you can still use a native SQL query.

I explained the capabilities of JPQL

in great detail in a blog post.

So, I will add the link to it to the video description

and give you just a short overview

of what you can do in a WHERE clause.

You can use several compare operators,

access the attributes of all entities referenced in the FROM clause

or implicitly joined via the path operator

and you can even call database functions to trigger more complex operations.

Another thing you shouldn't do is limiting the number of elements in the Stream

The Stream API provides several methods to cancel the processing

or to retrieve certain elements from the Stream.

And you can do the same within your queries.

So, which is the better approach?

You should, of course, only select the database records that you want to process in your application.

So, if you already know that you just need a certain number of records,

you should limit the size of the result set within the query.

Typical examples are queries that select the most recent record that fulfills certain criteria

or that retrieve a list of records

that will be presented in a paginated list in the UI.

The reason why you should do that within your query is simple.

The number of records you select can influence the execution plan of your query,

for example indexes might be used or not used

based on the number of selected records.

That increases the execution time of your query.

Building a bigger result set in the database also requires more resources

and due to this, slows down your database server.

So, better use the setFirstResult and the setMaxResult methods in the Query

and TypedQuery interface.

I explained that in one my Hibernate Tip videos in more detail.

Let's take a look.

With JPA and Hibernate,

you have to set the pagination information on the Query interface

and not in the query String as you know it from SQL.

You can do that by calling the setFirstResult

and setMaxResults methods.

The code snippet here on the slide shows a simple example

that returns the first 5 Authors from the database.

The result set index is 0 based

and you, therefore, need to provide 0 as a startPosition to begin with the first element.

Let's jump into the IDE and give it a try.

Here you can see the same query as I showed you on the slide.

It selects all Author entities from the database

in the ascending order of their primary key.

I only want to show the first 5 Authors to the user.

I, therefore, set maxResults to 5,

so that the query returns only 5 entities,

and the firstResult to 0, so that I get the first 5 Author entities.

As you can see here,

Hibernate generated an SQL query

and used the maxResult values to create a LIMIT clause.

OK, let's assume the user wants to see the next 5 Authors.

I prepared that in another test case.

You can see it here.

The only difference to the previous one is

the value that I provide to the setFirstResult method.

Instead of 0, I now set it to 5 so that the query

returns the 6th-10th Author from the database.

Hibernate generated the same query

and just set a different value for the OFFSET parameters

so that the database returns the 5 next records from the author table.

And you should also not sort the elements of the Stream

You could use the sorted method provided by the

Stream interface to sort the elements of your Stream

But that's another operation which the database

can do much faster than your Java code.

You just need to add an ORDER BY clause to your query

and the database returns the result set in your preferred order.

In JPQL, you can do that with a similar syntax

as you probably know from SQL.

Your persistence provider will then add an ORDER BY clause to the SQL query

and your database will return the result set in the defined order.

You can then use the Stream to iterate through the result set.

What should you do if you have an electrical fault? - Duration: 2:22.

for reasons beyond our control.

Unfortunately, we cannot control everything. Occasionally, a storm, heavy snow

or strong winds causing objects to fall on power lines, fires or even road works

may damage one of our power lines and cause the service to be temporarily interrupted.

What should you do if this happens?

The first thing you should do is call the contact number for electrical faults

in your region and we will begin the process to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

How do we do this?

As soon as you call us, our Control Centre notifies the closest Maintenance Brigade

to visit the site and resolve the problem as soon as possible.

However, the safety of the repair technicians is of utmost importance

to us and we guarantee this at all times.

It is important for you to know that, if it is a serious fault, our priority is always to restore the service for customers

who, given their activity, are considered particularly vulnerable:

hospitals, emergency services, police, water supply companies…

And, what if it is not a fault on the grid?

If the power supply interruption is only in your installation, you can try to restore it via

the main electrical control panel in your home.

Make sure all the switches are up, including the general switch and the circuit breaker.

Then, put the main switch down for about three seconds, then put it up again.

If this still does not work, the fault may be because you have exceeded your contracted power.

Unplug one of the devices you have plugged in and repeat this procedure again.

If the power does not come back on, you will need to notify an installer to check your installation.

And don't forget to make sure you have several torches with batteries to hand to avoid

using candles and try not to open the refrigerator and the freezer doors to keep food cold for longer.

I reached the observation deck of Mt. Monju.

Because it's a ridgeway like mountain trail so

the views of both sides of the mountain are visible.

This is southwest side.

It's almost the northern side of the mountain.

This is a wide road.

After I turn right and start walking straight,

I will see Mt. large Monju.

At 3:45pm,

I reached the top of Mt. large Monju.

Next to the main hall,

There is a rock of "Tainai Kuguri" (a narrow sanctified cavern / symbolizing rebirth).

I reached the forest road under the dam.

I reached Shihodani-cho agricultural community environment village center where I parked my car.

It took approximately 2 hours from Daishoji-cho.
