Today I'm going to try and help you answer this very popular question:

Why don't we pronounce English words the way they're spelled?

Over the years I've had many many many students tell me:

Why is it that we don't say these English words the way they're spelled?

It doesn't make any sense, it's very confusing,

And that's what I want to talk to you about today. English has crazy spelling and weird pronunciation that goes with it.

Keep in mind I'll be giving you the American pronunciation of these words

Because well, I'm American. I don't think British English is that different,

So what I'm going to talk to you about today is pretty relevant for just about all English varieties.

So let's just jump right into it.

The first letter combination that I want to talk to you about is the GH.

So let's start at the beginning of the word.

If you see these two letters at the beginning of the word

It's just going to have a simple /g/ sound. The H is going to be silent.

For example:

It's also a simple /g/ sound when you find it in the middle of a word sometimes.

Now if we're talking about some compound nouns, you might pronounce the G and the H.

So for example, somebody might call somebody else a pig head.

Not a nice thing to say, but in this case you would say the G and the H.

Or bighorn. G and H are both pronounced.

And finally when the GH comes at the end of the word, I think this is where it probably becomes the most confusing.

Because often times it just has an /f/ sound. As in:

Now, there are some exceptions to this rule.

And I know, English and all the exceptions...

I hate it, but we just got to deal with it. So for example:

In this case the gh is just completely silent.

But remember, most of the time when you see the GH at the end of a word, it'll have that /f/ sound.

You get the point.

Next, let's talk about these two letters right here: the P and the H.

I think this is a little easier because pretty much wherever you find it,

at the beginning, the middle, or the end - It's going to have an /f/ sound.

So for example at the beginning of the word.

In the middle.

And at the end of a word.

The PH will have the /f/ sound.

Sticking with Ps: If you have a P and S together, basically the P is silent.

So when you see it, oftentimes at the beginning of a word, you're not going to say the P.

In these words the P is silent.

Now, let's look at a vowel sound.

And you might see these two letters, the double O, together.

And most often it's either going to have one of two sounds.

It's either going to have an...

So for example, an /uu/ sound in:

Or an /uuh/ sound in:

These aren't the only sounds that these two letters make, and that can cause a lot of confusion.

Unfortunately, there is no rule for this.

You just have to learn these words.

Learn the pronunciation and practice and practice and practice.

The double O may also make an...

And it can have more of an...

Again, there's no rule, you just have to read these words.

Listen to the way people say them correctly and practice and practice and practice and practice.

Keep in mind I think a wonderful way to learn spelling and pronunciation

and to match them up is to use subtitles when you are watching TV or movies.

Because you are hearing the pronunciation, as well as reading the words,

and you're able to match the sounds to the spelling.

A good way to practice: Use subtitles.

Next I want to talk to you about four letters that you often see at the end of words.

And those letters could be -tion or -sion.

The pronunciation is the same.

-tion is pronounced /shun/.

-sion also pronounced /shun/.

When you see the -tion or the -sion the stress of this

word, the syllable stress, is going to come on the syllable before.

So for example, the word pronunciation.

The stress is going to come on the syllable before the -tion.

So it's...

Same with the word comprehension.

The stress is going to come on the syllable before -sion, which in this case...

Comprehension.

Let's stay with word endings for right now

because other letters you might see at the end of a word are these five right here.

-ology

And this is pronounced /ol-uh-jee/.

And what makes this I think a little challenging is that you have these two Os right here.

That first one is a short O sound, and the second o is more of a schwa sound.

So we see this at the end of words like...

Another popular word ending is -ture.

And when you see these four letters at the end of a word it's pronounced /cher/.

We say -ture as /cher/.

There's just so many words out there that the and in -ture.

Just remember /cher/.

Now these two letters right here, this is a very, very difficult one.

And it is the RL blend.

Because the R sound and L sound on their own

those are difficult sounds to make.

Now I'm not going to go over those individual sounds.

We did a video lesson about that before.

And if you want to check that out, it'll help you make those individual sounds.

Now since both of those sounds are very difficult,

you can imagine that when you find these two letters right next to each other in some words

it's very challenging for many English language learners.

For example:

You have to make that transition from the R to the L.

Where the R sound, your tongue is in the middle of your mouth, and you transition to the

L where your tongue is going to touch the top part right behind your front teeth.

Again, I encourage you watch the RL lesson.

This will really help you with these two sounds.

(File) With less than a year to go for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the JD(U) has already begun posturing for a bigger share of seats in Bihar on the grounds that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is the face of NDA in the state

JD(U) general secretary Pawan Verma, who attended the core committee meeting on Sunday evening, said the party had always been the senior partner and was the largest constituent of the coalition with the BJP

"Between coalition partners, as elections approach, there will be discussions on seat adjustments

In the case of Bihar, JD(U), in our view, has always been the senior partner. Nitish Kumar is the face of the NDA in Bihar, which is why he is the chief minister," Verma said

Trying to play the pacifier, Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi rubbished reports that there was a rift between BJP and JD(U) but stopped short of saying whether Nitish would be made the face of NDA in Bihar in 2019

The deputy CM said while PM Modi was the face of the nation, Nitish was the face of Bihar

"The PM of the country is Narendra Modi, but the CM of Bihar is Nitish Kumar. People will vote in Bihar on the basis of the name of Modi and work done by Nitish

There is no opposition from JD(U)," he said. Smarting under the bypoll loss to its one-time ally RJD in Jokihat, the JD(U)'s core committee meeting was chaired by Kumar and attended by national general secretaries and poll strategist Prashant Kishor

The meeting comes just days before talks between NDA constituents in Bihar on June 7

Verma made no bones of the fact that seat-sharing will be one of the issues that will hog the limelight during the meeting with NDA leaders

The JD(U) leader expressed hope that the BJP would deal with the matter keeping in mind the ground realities

"We have not had formal talks, our expectation is that the BJP which is the largest party in NDA will deal with its ally in a manner of mutual respect and understanding of certain factors verifiable on the ground," he said

There has been speculation in political circles that the JD(U), which has only two Lok Sabha members, might press for a seat-sharing arrangement in accordance with its strength in the Bihar assembly, where it has about 70 MLAs against 50 of the BJP

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had bagged 22 out of the 40 seats. Insisting there was no dispute between the JD(U) and BJP, Sushil Modi said seat-sharing talks would be thrashed out during the June 7 meeting

"Jab dil mil gaye (When hearts have connected), seats are no big deal. Who will contest how many seats in elections, all this will be decided after we sit together for our meeting," Modi said

Stewia.Stewia stała się znana dopiero w ostatnich latach, mimo że z Paragwaju, z którego pochodzi, jest spożywana od zawsze.

Roślina ta ma wspaniałe właściwości, jest nie tylko najlepszym naturalnym słodzikiem bez zawartości kalorii, ale przede wszystkim reguluje poziom glukozy we krwi.

Według tych badań, cynamon również zwiększa wrażliwość na insulinę, która kontroluje poziom glukozy, a poza tym jest bardzo korzystny dla naszego organizmu ponieważ ma właściwości antyoksydacyjne.

Cynamon możemy przyjmować w formie tabletek i/lub dodawać go do spożywanych posiłków, jako napar, możemy go również ugotować i dodawać do napojów warzywnych.

Zalecana dawka dobowa w przypadku leczenia cukrzycy wynosi od jednego do sześciu gramów, co oznacza jedną łyżeczkę cynamonu w proszku dziennie.

Jak w naturalny sposób leczyć cukrzycę?Jeżeli chcemy przygotować naturalne lekarstwo na bazie stewii i cynamonu, musimy się w pierwszej kolejności skontaktować z lekarzem.

Podstawą leczenia jest ustalenie terminu, od miesiąca do trzech miesięcy, w ciągu których będziemy spożywać trzy napary dziennie, rano, po obiedzie i wieczorem.

Oczywiście możemy też dodać inne produkty do naszej diety, które mogą przynieść wiele korzyści:Drożdże piwne: zawierają chrom, który reguluje poziom cukru.Świeża rzeżucha: również zawiera chrom.

Groszek zielony: działa jako roślinna insulina.Produkty pełnoziarniste: zwłaszcza ryż i owies, które regulują poziom cukru we krwi.Naturalna woda kokosowa: ma działanie hipoglikemizujące.

Lakownica żółtawa (grzybek Reishi), żagwica listkowata i twardnik japoński: grzyby te mają właściwości regulujące poziom glukozy oraz wiele innych, pozytywnych właściwości dla naszego organizmu.

Ponadto powinniśmy ściśle przestrzegać wytycznych medycznych, regularnie ćwiczyć, zażywać słońca poza godzinami największej intensywności promieni słonecznych i rozwiązywać w naturalny sposób wszystkie nasze problemy emocjonalne.

How To Create Remarketing Ads For YouTube Viewers | YouTube Remarketing - Duration: 6:27.

Hey everyone this is Viren and welcome back to my youtube channel for another marketing tutorial. In this video

I'm going to show you how to create YouTube ads for those users who've

already seen my youtube channel. So this is essentially remarketing on YouTube.

This is the channel that I run and I want to create an ad for anyone who's

basically seen at least one of my videos. To do that I will first go into Google

Adwords and once I'm here, you will first need to set up audience for which you

will click on this wrench icon here and go under audience manager. Once you here,

click on set up an audience source. There are a few audience sources to choose

from like App Analytics, Google Play and so on. I am going to select YouTube. Click

on link to YouTube. Add channel. You need to search for a channel or paste the URL

here. Let me just search for my channel, it's called very Viren Baid.

Assign a name to the AdWords account I'll just write down my name and click

on finish. So the linking is done and once you go

back to AdWords you can see that you've placed a request for approval. And there

you go, as soon as I click to refresh here right

after two minutes, you can see that the linking with my youtube channel is done.

I can also unlink it back here. I am now ready to create my remarketing audience

so again go under audience manager and click on this plus sign here. Here

are the list of audiences that you can create. Let me select the YouTube users.

Give this audience a name.

You can also narrow this down to people who viewed just certain videos or a

particular video, have visited the channel page, subscribed and things like that. You

can show it to people who've commented or shared - any number of engagement

options you can select from. Let me for now, just for simplicity sake, select viewed

any video on my channel. The initial list size is something you have to select - so

do you want to include people from the past 120 days or start with an empty

list. Let's go with include the 120 days and finally the membership duration.

Let's keep it at 30 days. Click on create

and the audience is now created. It does take a little bit of time for the

members to populate as you can see it says you're populating. So once you come

back to this page after a bit, I have come back to this after a day you can

see that my list has been created for YouTube marketing. There are 17,000

people in this group for search ads. If I create a YouTube ad I will be able to

take 15,000 of these users and another 15,000 for display ads and finally if I

use this audience for remarketing on gmail ads I'm going to be able to use

only 7,900 of them. So essentially these are the number of users from my

youtube channel that Google has been able to map on Search, YouTube, Display

and Gmail. They've also created a list called Similar to YouTube Marketing. Now

these are people who are similar to my users on YouTube, but the list is not

that big so we will not be able to use it so far.

I can only use it probably in display marketing. Anyways, once the audience is

ready you can start adding this remarketing group to any of your AdWords

ads. So let me just go back and here you can see I had created a snapchat search

ad. So you can select this, go under audiences

and all you need to do is add the audience. So there are two options here -

Targeting and Observation. So targeting means you can narrow the reach of the

audience to a specific audience. So basically if I use targeting and I

choose my YouTube remarketing audience, the snapchat search ads will only be

shown to my YouTube remarketing list. But, if I just select observation, what

happens here is that Google will show my ads to everyone in the ad group in

general but also show them to my YouTube remarketing list and then I'll be able

to see the analytics, the data, for both these groups and see how they're

performing. So let me select targeting and to get your remarketing list you

have to select the second option here - how they have interacted with your

business and you can see I have a YouTube remarketing list here. So just

add it here, click Save and we're done. This audience has been added to my

snapchat search ads. You can do this for all kinds of ads - let's say I have a

video ad created for USA. Here again I can just click - add audiences, have to

select an ad group first so - Facebook canvas. Remarketing. YouTube. Save. So you

can do this with any ad group, all you need to do is first create an audience

for remarketing and then start adding that audience to any of your Google

AdWords campaigns. That's about it for this tutorial, I hope I was able to
