Manchester United's old boys association have hit a brick wall in their attempts to honour club legend Jimmy Murphy with a statue outside the Stretford End at Old Trafford
The Association of Former Manchester United Players (AFMUP) wrote to the club in June last year outlining the case for Murphy, Sir Matt Busby's assistant manager, to be honoured
Seven months later, they are still awaiting a reply — and are disappointed they have had no official acknowledgement of their letter
Murphy helped nurture the legendary Busby Babes and is credited with keeping United going after the 1958 Munich air disaster in which 23 people died – including eight players – with Busby seriously injured
He missed that fateful trip to Belgrade as he also doubled as Wales manager and was with the Welsh team for a World Cup qualifier
But he took charge at United in the aftermath of the disaster and guided them to the 1958 FA Cup Final
Murphy, who remained as assistant manager at United until 1971, is also credited with persuading Busby and Bobby Charlton back to the club when both men wanted to walk away in the aftermath of the crash
Wayne Barton, author of official Murphy biography The Man Who Kept The Red Flag Flying, said: "I absolutely agree 100 per cent with the sentiments of AFMUP – Jimmy deserves a statue
There's one of Sir Matt, Sir Alex Ferguson and the 'holy trinity' of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton in prominent positions at the stadium
"United fans should support every effort to make this happen because Jimmy is arguably the most important person in the club's history
He took over when Sir Matt was in hospital in Munich and kept everything going when the club could easily have buckled
"There's a bust of Jimmy in the club museum but he's worthy of much more. It's an educational thing too — as time goes on people get forgotten
But Jimmy is worth of prominent recognition.'' A media building at the club's Carrington training complex is named in Murphy's honour – but Barton believes there should be more
He said: "I'm sure the club will say they have honoured him but how many people get to go Carrington? A statute would be much more fitting
" A United spokesman said: "Jimmy Murphy holds a unique and special place in Manchester United's history, which we recognised through the naming of the Jimmy Murphy Centre at the Aon Training Complex as a tribute to him in 2012

A jealous boyfriend allegedly murdered a love rival in a street stabbing over a young woman, a court heard today
Malaciah Thomas, 20, was allegedly stabbed to death in a vicious 'love triangle' attack staged by four men in the Grangetown area of Cardiff
Daniel Roberts, 20, had 'grievances' against Mr Thomas after he suspected he was seeing his girlfriend Naomi Davis, Cardiff Crown Court was told
Patrick Harrington, prosecuting, said: 'Naomi Davis was at the centre of the relationship triangle
'Mr Thomas had known her for a number of years and had been in a relationship. It had come to a stormy end and she later began a relationship with Roberts
'But the court heard Mr Thomas kept in contact with his ex - and was drinking with her the night he was murdered
Mr Harrington added: 'Roberts became increasingly angry that Naomi was seeing Mr Thomas and ultimately it was that anger that manifested itself in a vicious knife attack
' Share this article Share Mr Thomas was attacked in the early hours of the morning as he sat in his car
Roberts and his friends Awez Jamshaid, 19, Christopher Griffiths, 29, and Saif Shahzad are all accused of his murder
The court heard Roberts and Griffiths hid in front gardens alone in Grangetown, as they prepared to attack with knives and wearing gloves
Roberts is then seen on CCTV leaping over a garden wall 'with great power and athleticism' before launching his attack on the driver side of Mr Thomas's Ford Fusion
Griffiths allegedly jumped from behind another wall along the street and covered the passenger side in an attempt to stop Mr Thomas escaping
The pair were seen stabbing at the victim before he breaks free and flees down the street in July last year
Mr Thomas was then chased down the street by his attackers followed swiftly by Shahzad, before they launched a second assault
As he continued to flee, the attackers were picked up in an Audi A3 driven by Jamshaid and continued the chase
Mr Harrington said: 'Roberts got out, jumped over a front wall of a house and delivered the final and fatal stab wound
'Mr Thomas rang 999 at 1.54am to say: 'Yo! I've been stabbed.'Attempts were made to save Mr Thomas soon after the attack by neighbours and emergency services but he was pronounced dead at the scene
All four men, from Cardiff, deny murder. The trial continues.

Well this way you're going to secure the crowns so well

And what it is to use a micro brush and some flowable.
You put some flow on the end of the microbrush
You put on the crown and you cure it and you've got a secure way of
holding that crown in place.

but it's gonna be amazing!
Now you can shake that crown around as
much as you want and it's not going to fall off.

Hi, I'm Larry Withers and welcome to Day 3 of Figuary, Figure Drawing Month.
Today is Sunday, which is when we typically premiere the Croquis Café.
However, as this is Figuary, we've change the name just for this month.
Otherwise this is your normal Croquis Café drawing session.
By the way, if you didn't know, the entire month of February is what we're calling
Figuary.
