Hi everyone, welcome back to Tokyo on Fire. Today is January 29th
2019, the Diet just opened up
yesterday for a 150 day session. The Prime Minister was there, the Emperor opened up as he usually must. Michael?
Well, the Emperor did the usual
short speech and then the Prime Minister launched into what was an
absolutely stem-winder in terms of
his policy address.
Six years ago, when he just came into power for the second time, he got through that
address in 17 minutes. Yesterday, he was going on past 50.
How many cat calls were there?
Oh, there are a lot of cat
calls because there was a lot of stuff. It seems he's got a lot of explaining to do and
that's one of the things about this
policy address, and the goals of this particular Diet session. There are a lot of things that are ongoing
and have been ongoing, but they just haven't gotten started and they haven't been gelled into some kind of program.
And, I swear, there's really a
correlation between how much he talks about something and how far along it's moved.
Right, we're going to be spreading some Tabasco on this very short session that we have today, Michael, and just talking about what is on the
the Diet calendar; what the Prime Minister will attempt to do in the first
150 day session, we don't know whether there'll be a
second session after that, but there will be an election coming up. Let's talk about the game
plan,
what's definitely on the calendar, other things might come up: the
ascension of the the new emperor will be, you know, on the boards as well.
And that's going to eat up a big chunk right
in the middle of 100 days. It's a 150 days, it's not
work days, it's a150 day span, so when they take that long vacation for, and everybody's going to take it, the
Imperial enthronement, the ceremonies with it, it's a long golden week.
When that happens that's going to eat in the time they have to work on actual
objects whether it's something in legislation or
international relations.
Both of which the Prime Minister has to do.
So the Prime Minister has to pretty much set the tone: he's got an election
right after Golden Week and he wants everybody to vote for him!
Well, he wants everybody to vote for the House of Councillors,
the half of them that are up for election, and it might be a double
election. You're a big fan of that, I'm not.
But, the truth of the matter is he could literally pull the ripcord and have a double election.
There was speculation last year that there would be a constitutional referendum on top of that.
That seems out of the cards, I don't think there's any way that in the short period of time we have between now and
the run-up to the changeover in the Imperial era, that they're going to be able to stuff in
something, you know, so
controversial and has to have a certain amount of days for public comment. They're not going to do it, it's just
a pipe dream.
Maybe in the fall.
Maybe in the fall, but
we don't know because then there will be the build-up for other
big issues, particularly if they do it in the fall it's so close to the tax rise that's
absolutely going to happen. And he talked about that yesterday and there was a
lot of reaction from the floor when he started talking about taxes: that was when things really heated up among the opposition
cat callers who were there. They were just trying to knock him off
his beat in order to, you know, disrupt and say the tax rise it is out of place out, of time.
I think he has a very good strong case ,and I don't think there's any chance that he's going to delay the tax rise even if
it's going to mess up his electoral plans.
Well, didn't Finance Minister Aso kind of calm the waters with his statement?
Oh, we don't even want to talk about Aso,
but we have to think about the things they have to do. First, is that they have to pass
the budget and they have to get it done
in a very short amount of time, because you have the April 1st
requirement that that's when the new fiscal new year comes in, and we're starting so late in January.
For an Abe administration, this is a really late start
and you have very little time: you have to get it done
by the end of February in the House of Reps, so that you have enough time, so that the 30-day rule applies
in the House of Councillors.
You don't know the Constitution of Japan: that's probably incomprehensible. But, basically this government has
less than a month to get the entire budget passed and the thing is,
because of the Labor statistics scandal, they had to revise it and that's just
opening up
huge avenues for the opposition.
There are certain things that absolutely must be done and there's certain things that are going to happen: they're
coming down the path. And when you see what he has on the Diet schedule it is the most
unaggressive in like 30 or 40 years.
There's just too much
happening outside of the Diet chambers for him to have control over a large body of
legislative pieces that are moving around. He has to keep that quiet and they did: it's really
remarkable that they are so incredibly conservative in the number of bills and the kinds of bills that they're proposing.
And it shows their great realism,
which is one of the reasons why Abe has been in power for so long, the people around him
sense what the atmosphere of the times
allows and stays away from things that can cause major breaks. They definitely have one major goal:
keep it quiet through July, keep the public
unenthused,
uninterested, in the House of Councilors
election, get through it, use the base in order to elect all your LDP friends back again and
then we'll see what happens. Because, on the block right now is a
huge chunk of LDP seats that were won, everybody says, in excess as they were too succesful
six years ago. And
that means they're expecting to lose seats and if they lose seats they're going to go farther and farther away from the two-thirds majority
that they need for constitutional revision. And that great opportunity that
started in 2016 summer to change the constitution: buff,
It's gone.
Right there's a little bit of a movement, I'm sure you've picked it up too to,
hopefully, separate from this alliance that they have with the Komeito party as well. If they have
two-thirds majority in both houses
without the coalition, then that coalition really doesn't have the
power that the Prime Minister needs.
Yeah, but at the same time in terms of elections they know that they need to
Komeito. The Komeito provides about 25% of any district - LDP districts
elected candidates
final vote tallies.
Maybe a little bit less in the western part of Japan maybe a little bit more in other places but they're a
solid group. So they would like to in terms of policy pull away from the Komeito and
and see the Komeito knocked down a notch but
when push comes to shove they're going to need those votes. And we can see that because the CDPJ
continues, the main opposition party continues to go from strength to strength. They're
nominating interesting candidates, it looks like they're gonna fight in virtually every place on the map. They're not
coordinating with the other opposition parties the way they were in
2016.
They're pretty damn confident that they can nail a whole bunch of seats all by themselves and that's
also playing into the Prime Minister's calculations.
But the Prime Minister knows this, I mean, he's watching this program too.
So, it is possible, it is not inconceivable, that there could be a sweep because he has the power to
call the lower house 'closed'.
Yeah, he does have a power to dissolve it but it
doesn't make sense to me in terms of numbers that the one thing you want to do is not
increase voter totals, you don't want to have a double election, you want to keep things quiet,
boring, uninteresting...
It's July I
want to go to somewhere else into the mountains, the beach, whatever.
Oh, I
actually like the combination: it's after a long Golden Week, the Emperor, the new Emperor has acceded to the throne.
It's kind of a party time and then to hold the election there I think there's a lot of
to be positive about.
So let's agree to disagree on that one.
But in general he has got a very crowded schedule.
June is shot because of the G20 that's coming up in Osaka,
first time that Japan is a host and he's hosting
the leaders of the world.

But he had that in the speech as well yesterday, he emphasized that he was going to try to be that Prime Minister

Everything else was sort of a shunted to the side. Russia has really
absorbed the Abe administration and become its
albatross: its white whale that is pursuing across the horizons of the world and

But it sure is taking up a lot of their time.
The Prime Minister has a busy schedule over the next couple of months,

Sylvania Glass LED Light Bulb Review - Duration: 6:11.
Hello everyone, It's Adam A Comedy and Tech Today I am doing a review of Sylvania brand
glass LED light bulbs These are frosted 60 watt equivalents
Now, I feel like my YouTube channel is becoming a household products review channel, and I
did not plan on doing a review of these when I first bought them.
But I noticed something very weird about them that prompted me to make this.
You'll see what I'm talking about later in the video.
For some background info, I was at Wal-Mart looking for some more light bulbs to complete
my home's transition to energy efficient bulbs like LEDs.
I was planning on getting some more Great Value--which is Wal-Mart's store brand--frosted
60 watt equivalent glass LEDs, which I reviewed in a previous video.
But I noticed they had Sylvania brand glass LEDs that looked similar but were cheaper.
The Wal-Mart ones were $9.97 for a four pack, while the Sylvanias were $6.84.
I decided to get the Sylvanias since Sylvania is a well-known brand and they were cheaper.
I even looked up reviews online, and while I couldn't find that specific model, other
Sylvania glass LED light bulbs had decent reviews with 4 or more stars.
When I got these out of the box they looked suspiciously similar to the Wal-Mart ones.
In fact, the label on the top looks almost exactly the same.
The only things that are different are the wattage: these Sylvanias are rated for 6.9
watts while the Wal-Mart ones are rated for 6.5 watts, and the brand name.
All the other numbers on the label are exactly the same.
After inspecting the bulbs closer, I noticed that the small heat sinks on the bottom were
slightly different.
However, I do believe that these were likely made in the same factory (and they both claim
to be assembled in the USA).
Another difference is that the Great Value brand bulbs are supposed to last 25,000 hours
and the Sylvanias are only supposed to last 15,000 hours.
I don't really trust either of these claims, though.
When I turned one of these on, my first impression was positive.
It looks almost exactly like a classic incandescent bulb, much like the Wal-Mart LEDs do.
They don't buzz, at least when they're at full brightness, and they don't cause
any interference with my AM radio, just like the Wal-Mart bulbs.
When I waved my hand around in the air, I observed a slight 120 hertz flicker, that
appeared to be more noticeable than the Wal-Mart bulbs.
I took some photos, and sure enough, they do flicker more.
I put one of these in a bathroom fan/light fixture, and noticed something very weird.
I turned the light on, and then turned the fan on (they are on separate switches).
No problems there.
But, when I turned the fan off, the light bulb also turned off for a second, and then
came back on.
At first I thought I accidentally bumped the light switch when I turned the fan off, but
I repeated the action to verify that that wasn't the case.
And this wasn't just a flicker or dim.
Every time I turned the fan off, the bulb would appear to go out almost completely,
and then come back on.
I don't believe it is a wiring issue, because no other light bulbs (LED, fluorescent, or
incandescent) did that in that fixture.
So, I decide to put the Sylvania bulbs somewhere else.
This time I put them in a vanity fixture in a different bathroom.
It's not a fan fixture, so I wasn't expecting any problems.
But I forgot it's on the same circuit as the exhaust fan for that bathroom.
And sure enough, the same thing happens when I turn that fan off.
Interestingly, the Wal-Mart ones don't do that.
My theory is that these bulbs have some sort of overvoltage protection circuitry that is
too sensitive.
When you turn a fan or other large electrical load on, there is usually a slight dip in
voltage, especially on that circuit.
Conversely, when you turn the fan off, there is a slight swell in voltage.
While this swell is harmless and none of my other lights or electronics seem to care,
I speculate that overvoltage protection circuitry cuts off power to the LEDs for a split second.
Additionally, these bulbs do not function at all on touch-sensitive lamps, while the
Wal-Mart ones do.
If anyone has an idea as to why this might be, please enlighten me in the comments.
The bulbs claim to be dimmable, and may work on regular dimmer switches, but these touch
lamps are the only fixtures I have in my home that dim.
I have not had any problems since moving these to a circuit that I don't believe has a
fan on it.
However, I do plan on returning these due to the increased flicker and overall sketchiness.
So, thumbs up to the -Realistic incandescent appearance
-High efficacy (about 120 lumens per watt, which I verified with my Kill-A-Watt meter)

Get the Wal-Mart Great Value brand instead.
So, this is an addendum to the video.
I looked up the UL number that's on both the Wal-Mart and Sylvania brand bulbs and
found that they both appear to be manufactured by a company called LEDVANCE, which is based
in Germany, is owned by a Chinese company, and I guess has offices and a factory here
in the US.
This raises the question Why is Sylvania, the brand name, buying and distributing the
seemingly crappier bulbs, while Wal-Mart is buying the better ones?

Oscar Valdez sought to be more defensive minded in returning from an 11-month absence due to a fractured jaw, but the featherweight world champion couldn't help himself given the opportunities presented Saturday night
So, in a four-knockdown destruction of light-punching Italian Carmine Tommasone at The Star at Ford Center, Valdez successfully defended his World Boxing Organization belt for the fifth time by finishing the challenger nine seconds into the seventh round

但孟晚舟可以上訴
這個過程可能耗時好幾年； 2、
美國放棄引渡； 3、
加拿大法院可以以美方要求不成立為由
釋放孟晚舟； 也就是這一番講話
麥家廉在加拿大國內遭到群起攻擊
除了媒體炮轟之外
還有反對黨要求其立即下台。

麥家廉迫不得已通過加拿大《星報》道歉
稱自己說錯了話。

麥家廉在加拿大總理特魯多的要求下辭職。

特魯多發表聲明稱
麥家廉已辭去加拿大駐中國大使的職務
並且辭職「立即生效」。
從這一過程我們可以看出
加拿大現在是打算一路走到黑了。
五眼聯盟國家作出打壓華為的決定來自於去年7月在加拿大的一場「龍蝦晚宴」。

為什麼會出現這種情況？ 筆者看來主要還是華為的5G技術以及相關產品已經領先其他競爭對手太多。
這在五眼聯盟國家的電信運營商心裡可是明明白白的。

而華為的晶片支持從2G到5G的所有制式； 美國恐怕想不到
