Y Achievers: "It Gives Students a Safe Place to go After School." - Duration: 3:18.
My name is Laila, I am 11 1/2, and I'm in 6th grade.
I like to dance in my free time.
I like to also dance and swim at the Y.
The Y Achievers program is a group of kids that come from different schools to do their
activities and homework.
It's helped me talk to other people at my school better and understand my homework.
I tell other kids to enroll at the Y because there is help with your homework, field trips and
activities to do every single day.
What I like about Laila is that she has a lot of energy, she's very spontaneous.
She's loyal and very smart.
When she first came, she was a little shy, but immediately opened up when she started
to make new friends.
Like we came up with our own like part of the dances that we were supposed to learn.
And what I like about the Y Achievers is basically everything that we do, like we do a lot of
different things together and like for good reasons and everybody's here to help each other out.
The purpose of the Y Achievers program is to give students a safe place to go after
school.
We focus on college and career readiness, life skills, academics, college knowledge,
positive relationships, and positive identity.
I really appreciate Mr. Warren.
He is a trusted mentor to the children.
Laila really looks up to him and if she has any problems or issues in school, she's very
comfortable with going to him.
We really push college and career readiness with our students.
Additionally, life skills are very important because we have to teach our students how
to navigate through life and be able to understand what situations are positive, what a positive
relationship looks like, how to maintain positives relationships, and how to also have a positive
identity within themselves.
I have learned how to communicate with my feelings.
Going on field trips, helping each other out with homework.
The Y Achievers helped me tremendously.
Since Laila has been enrolled, she seems more likely to take leadership on roles and activities.
She's definitely a pleasure to have in our program.
She's very very helpful.
It has really provided students with a safe place to go, with positive adults who really
care about them, who invest in them because it's important for them to be prepared for
college once they get there.

Gluten Free Lactose Free Fructose Free Rice Pudding - #CocinaConFlandy - Duration: 3:41.
Hello everybody! I am Andy and today I bring you a recipe for a dessert
fructose free, lactose free and gluten free
rice pudding
The first thing we have to do is wash our rice well
for cleaning all the impurities
that it may have
At this time
I choose a milk that is lactose free, half-skimmed
and gluten free
We are going to put the milk in a pot
and we are going to heat it up
Generally, the people
that can't eat fructose, can use some flavorings
like lemon peel or cinnamon
I don't like cinnamon, so i'm going
to use lemon peel, and it works pretty well
To get this dessert sweet
You can use sucralose like i'm doing
or you can use stevia
This is obviously at taste
if you like your dessert sweeter you can add more sucralose
if you like it less sweet you can add less sucralose
When them milk is about to boil
We are going to add the rice that we washed previously
And to avoid the heat directly to our pot
We are going to cook this on the roaster
Like the rice we eat with salt
When it has passed 10 minutes
You are going to see it this way
it isn't cooked so we have to wait and stir continuously
At 20 minutes, it's going to be thickened up
but we have to keep cooking it
At 30 minutes
It is thicker
At 40 minutes, it's cooked
if you like it thicker, you can wait till 45 or 50 minutes
But i liked the consistency at 40 minutes, so i took it away from the heat
Once you take it off the heat
We are going to put it in a bowl
or in individual bowls
so we can take it to the fridge to cool down
and when it's cold you can eat it (you can eat it warm too is up to you)
I hope you like this recipe
So we can incorporate to our channel
people that are fructose intolerant and lactose intolerant
and obviously to the people that can't
eat gluten, i remember you all the time :)!
and so you can have a choice of a nice dessert to eat some times :)!
Have a great day :D!

Obra comentada: Tablero de Felipe II - Duration: 6:40.
Good morning everyone,
my name's Mercedes Simal.
I work as a researcher in the museum's department of sculpture
and the decorative arts.
I will be talking to you about one of the jewels of the collection.
As you know, this museum
not only has a magnificent collection of paintings
but also truly exceptional examples
of sculpture and the decorative arts.
Each work that we see in the museum has numerous stories associated with it.
Its story prior to entering
the Spanish royal collection
and then what has happened to it over the course of time.
In this case we are looking at one of the world's finest
inlaid hardstone table tops,
due to its size and the materials it is made with.
As is the top of this table: authentic jewels.
This technique of inlay, in other words, assembling different fragments
stones in this case,
to make decorations for covering a piece of furniture
is a technique known since the Egyptians,
which was disseminated by the Roman, particularly for the decoration of floors and walls.
However, it was not until the Renaissance
that it began to be habitual,
even though works of
this type remain exceptional.
Some would be made using marbles.
Marbles were referred to
as "pietre tennere" in Italian.
They are soft stones.
The unique nature of this table top, known as "Philip II's table top"
is due to its size
and the exceptional quality of the materials, which are hardstones and silicate minerals,
lapis lazuli, pieces of fluorite and jasper
around these three large agate panels.
There is also some marble.
These small white stones, which is extremely characteristic of Roman works,
referred to in the documentation as "white statuary marble".
These are extremely delicate objects.
Bear in mind that they were generally constructed
over a slate base
and the different pieces were joined to each other with pitch or resins,
but this table top weighs 800 kilos.
We know that the idea of giving it as a gift to Philip II
came from Cardinal Alessandrino in 1585.
It took two years for the table top to arrive in Spain.
It arrived at the port of Alicante.
There was a lot of expectation in Italy.
The Spanish ambassador in Genoa
thought that it would be for El Escorial,
which was Philip II's great building project.
But the Spanish Viceroy in Naples,
the father of the Count-Duke of Olivares,
was sure that it would go to Aranjuez,
another of Philip's favourite royal residences.
In fact, the table top remained in the Alcázar
where the King already had other hardstone tables,
some made in Spain
and others sent from Italy, also as diplomatic gifts,
given that, as I say, these are exceptional objects.
The table top was initially rather larger than we see today.
It had an African marble frieze that is now lost.
que actualmente ha perdido.
We also know that some of the stones, two of them,
had the heraldic coat-of-arms
of Cardinal Alessandrino
and that of his uncle the Pope carved on them,
so that every time Philip saw it
he would remember who had given it to him.
This was not a free gift, to put it that way.
During this period of history
it was habitual that these sumptuary gifts
were payment for facilitating appointments
or obtaining declarations
about territorial conflicts
between duchies or leaders of Italian territories.
The Museum has numerous examples
of how diplomatic representatives
and sovereigns of these states
constantly gave Philip II,
the most powerful monarch in Spain at that date,
paintings or sumptuous pieces of furniture
to decorate his palaces
and in the hope that he would resolve
these long-standing petitions.
As I said, these workshops started to be established in Rome
in the mid-16th century in Rome
in the area round the Forum
and would come to specialise
in producing hardstone table tops.
Only the tops, not the legs, the legs are a different matter.
In this case
the table has magnificent legs:
no less than the bronze lions
commissioned in Italy by Velázquez to decorate the Alcazár.
The abundant presence of antique materials in Rome
explains why these workshops established themselves there,
and all the principal monarchs of the day sent their artists there.
Working alongside each other
in these workshops were masters of sculpture
and stone-cutting masters,
some closer to jewellery than to other types of inlay.
As I said,
this is one of the first works
to have survived anywhere in the world
from this incipient period
around the mid-16th century.
Rome would become the most advanced city for work
of this type until the late 16th century
when Florence would take over
in a perfectly systematic manner
and with a splendid archive that has provided us
with enormous detail about is productions.
Nonetheless, the Roman pieces
are also excellent and exceptional,
partly because this was the moment when this taste flourished,
which was ultimately a homage to the world of antiquity.
It was also a display of magnificence
given that, as I said, these commissions
were only at the reach of a small minority.
It should be said that in the 16th century
Philip II's collection
was one of the most important of the day
as it brought together all these diplomatic gifts made to secure these positions,
which were sometimes granted and sometimes not,
but which certainly ensured that the Spanish royal collection
of this period and the collections
of the Prado in the present day
possess exceptional examples.
Thank you very much.

Why Do I Keep Working If I'm Retired? - Duration: 9:09.
Kris, why do you keep working if you're retired or is it, Kris, why do you keep
working if you're retired or is it, Kris, why do you keep working if you're
retired? I don't know. I get this comment from time to time so I thought, you
know what, let's make a video about it, let's tackle it. What's behind wealth?
What's behind the and what's the real motivator for me and maybe even for you
in the game of creating wealth, creating financial freedom and getting where we
want to go.
Alright, so I hope you're okay if today's a little bit more of a casual
style video, right. Because I'm just going to share some of my personal thoughts and
feelings on questions that many of you have asked. The question is, Kris, why do
you keep working if you're retired? And I want to do my best to answer that for
you. First of all, I want to back up and share that the first time I retired, my
reasons for doing it weren't the most pure and what I mean by that is I really
kind of felt frustrated that my wife was putting it on me. She said, "Hey, Kris. I'm
going to have babies. I'm going to help produce children for this family. I'm going to be
working full-time as a mom and you got to be the breadwinner, you got to go out
there to work." We come from that traditional mindset a little bit. I don't
know, I just felt like I was being ripped off like, well, what if I
want to be in the stay-at-home dad? What if I can't find a career that I can
fall in love with? The idea of being made to work and do something that I don't
enjoy just, it felt like death. I don't know if any of you ever
felt that way but majority of us have jobs we don't like. Even when I was young,
I was like, that is not the life that I want. My original motive was jealousy,
it's like one of the reasons why I want to become financially free. I don't
want to be stuck holding the bag on a job that I don't want to do with the
rest of my life. It's kind of selfish and you know motives changed with time, mine
certainly have. And this is when it really all came clear. When I was 26
years old and I had retired, what I specifically mean by retired was I quit
my job, no longer had a full-time job and whether I worked or not, real estate was
paying me $12,000 a month. I started kicking back and my real estate had put
a little time here in a little time there but I was enjoying the fact that I
had moved into my dream house, drove whatever car the time I was driving and
just enjoying life, traveling. A trip with my wife to Jamaica. I remember on this
trip, she asked me a question which was, "What do you want to do with your life?"
and the question felt really frustrating, it was almost like she was asking me to
go and work again and yet if I was honest with myself, I hadn't enjoyed the
six month of retirement because it wasn't everything was cracked up to be.
I got home, I didn't have a job and all the sudden, I was staring
into the eyes of my 1 year old baby wondering what on earth I could do to
fill up all day long with a mom and a dad full-time just taking care of this
child. Like it also it felt just as off to me as the idea of being jealous
that my wife would never have to work so it really set me on a journey of who am
I? What's my purpose? And then you asks this question like why am I working? Like why
am I shooting these videos? Not just that but I have a number of
businesses that I continue growing and expanding. Why, if I don't need to? I
can tell you right now, I could shut everything down, probably work one hour a
day and make hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars and that's if I
just lost everything and that's all I was doing. There's no appeal to that, I've
tried living that life. You know, there's this interesting report, I wish I could
cite it specifically, maybe one of you will research it and drop it one of the
comments. It was fascinating report I read years ago about what happened to men and
women after they retired and you know what, the study showed that they had a
very short lifespan after retirement. There's a study that basically says that
working produces levels of fulfillment that chemically and everything else wise
environmentally has an impact on us that keeps us going, keeps us healthy and
keeps us alive. Retiring is dying so what does retirement really mean to you and
what does retirement really mean to me? I've had to ask. If I had all the money
in the world, if money was of no concern, what would I do with my life? I think it
changes with each chapter of life. Here's the chapter I'm in right now, I got four
kids and the oldest is just turning 12 this month and then the youngest is 6
years old turning 7 this year so four kids close together and we travel a
lot, we love to spend time, I love to take him out of school and get in
trouble with the teachers, I love to customize their education, that's a
little bratty but I love being involved with my kids' life and teaching and
educating and my oldest, my daughter Lisa, wow, she is going to be one heck of an
entrepreneur. I cannot wait till she and I get to do some more formal business
projects because I'm passing on a legacy, I'm sharing something with her so
family's a big part of my life, spending time with my wife is a big part my life
and traveling is a big part of my life but outside of that, if I just do nothing,
I don't like who I am. I'm just going to be honest here, I don't like the way that I
feel, it's not so much that nervous energy that needs to be productive,
there's just something inside that says there's more to life than just doing
nothing or being financially free means taking it easy and toes up on the beach
so what I've really learned is what my balance is and you get to learn what
your perfect balance is. My jam that I really love is work hard, play hard. I
love sinking my teeth into a project that I really care about and then I love
to balance it with a lot of fun and a lot of play like for example, I'm
producing a bunch of YouTube videos next month in Mexico and going to take a couple of
days, going to shoot a bunch of them and then we're going to stay and it'll be over
Valentine's so me and a buddy of mine and our wives are coming and we're going to
play and just hang out and spend really good time together.
So you look at all that and it's like, alright, how do I balance play? How do I
balance fun? How do I also balance nothing? And what is perfect really look
like in my world? What does it look like in your world? My morning is throwing in
generally some kind of exercise, some type of meditation, just allowing myself
to get grounded, that makes a happier Kris for me. There's usually a part of
my day that it's dedicated to doing some type of work project because it's happy
for me then there's ton that's dedicated towards my family, my wife and that's
happy for me and then there's time that's just dedicated to me having Kris
time and all of that adds up to a balance and some days are different than
others, they're in flow in how they shift but here's what I do know, I need
to be out there doing projects, I need to be creating value in the world because
it's what really lights me up inside and gets me most excited for what life has
to offer. If I can prove a video that creates
value for you or gives you the next step on your journey or gets you moving, so
it's just at the airport and this guy runs up to me with his wife so
incredibly excited said, "Man, Kris. We've been watching your YouTube channel, we
just bought our four-plex, we're living in one of the units, we're renting out
the other three and it's amazing. Thank you so much." And they wanted to take a
picture with me and I thought, my life, my life force doesn't run on accolades
necessarily recognition or needing to be thanked but what I really did love was
that what I knew was useful inspiring and helpful for his situation and so I
guess to answer the question why do I keep working? One, I don't want
to die. Two, I really just want to be happy, this brings me joy and my
different projects bring me joy. My different businesses bring me joy but
I've got some rules that I didn't have before. I don't know if I could have
afforded them but I can afford them now. Number one, I spend time with people that
I like. That's really important to me, I don't resonate with every person out
there just like you might watch me, you're like, "Kris, you're kind of weird, man.
You don't resonate with me." I get it but I'd like to spend time with the
people that I like to spend time with. My life is filled with lots of friends,
amazing inspiring individuals that I love to be around and then I only work
on work projects that I really believe in and that
believe can create maximum value according to what I know and what my
potential is. Those are some of the rules that if I am going to work, those are the
requirements and if it doesn't meet those requirements, I'm out. I'm not going
to do them. So I find that I have a lot of capacity for doing a lot of projects
that can do a lot of good and I just got to balance them with having the alone
time, the free time, the travel time, the family time,
the wife connection time, the God time, and in that world, finding my balance,
when that balance is really humming just right, I'm my happiest me and if I took
you out of the equation, if I took my work out of the equation, I wouldn't be
as fulfilled and I wouldn't be as happy. That's my truth. I don't know how that
resonates with you, we're all a little bit different but I think the principle
that is true is that there's a perfect balance that'll be changing through life
for every one of us and creating value is my jam that is one of the essential
components of me being happy and fulfilled and friends, that's why I work.
You know, it's weird. Do I really work or am I really just playing? You know, it's
interesting, work feels like work when you're doing something that you really
don't enjoy but on the other hand, when you're doing something that you love, I
have a hard time calling it work and maybe that'll be true for you, maybe it
already is but at the end of the day, part of my life is always going to be
dedicated to creating value and maybe that's what you and I really share in
common because most the people that I hang out with that have achieved a great
level of success rather than just only being toes up on the beach after they
get a fair share of that, there's this other calling that hearkens deep inside
that says, hey, there's more for us to do, let's create value for other people and
that's why I'm here making this video for you. So make sure that you subscribe,
ring the bell so that I can notify you about some of the other ways that we can
work together and otherwise, check out my website, some of the ways that we can play.

What I Wore ~ Hot Stuff, New Clogs & A Dane Cameo ~ Ep. 27 - Duration: 6:14.
Participants: Rajka Hayden
Dane Hayden:
[Audio Length: 00:06:13] RECORDING COMMENCES:
Rajka Hayden: Welcome to the Dress Up Mom.
Hi.
In this video, I'm going to show some of the outfits that I pick out to wear this week.
I really hope you like them.
Today, I'm wearing my party vest.
This is something I picked up at a vintage shop years ago, and I love to bring it out
around the holiday time.
Look at it, please.
It has these little balls that almost jingle around.
It's all sequined flowers in a lacy background, and I just think it's so cool.
I'm wearing it with just a little Kit and Ace top, a sparkly little belt, and then these
are my Levi's jeans that I got in Dublin, Ireland.
I cut and frayed them.
They're vintage.
Then, I have my new Sven clogs.
Look at these gold metallic halter Sven clogs that I think tie this all together, and make
it look quite special.
Today, I have a lot going on in this outfit.
Some might say too much, i.e. my husband, but I kind of like it.
Starting off with this necklace, which is an Indian, I think it's a wedding necklace.
It's this beautiful silver.
I love how it fits right into the V of this dress, which is from Chateau Belage.
It drapes just so nicely, and I think it fits everybody really well.
It's super comfortable and I love it.
This is a red corset belt from Love Strength, another local San Diego company.
This gorgeous kimono.
This is a real silk kimono that I got at the Hospice Resale in Encinitas, California.
It is just beautiful.
Then, I have my brand-new Sven clogs.
These silver, gorgeous Sven clogs with the little peep toe and the T-strap that I think
bring it all together.
A lot, but I like it, and I think it works.
I am heading back into the office, and I'm wearing some of my most favorite designer
resale pieces.
I have on this Prada jacket that is nice and warm, but the perfect weight for Southern
California, and these Chanel vintage pants that I just love.
They're a really great shape here for this time of year, and I bought both of these pieces
at ReLove in San Francisco.
I really love buying designer resale, because the pieces stay nice for a long time and you
get such a great value out of them, because they're so expensive if you buy them regularly.
I have it just paired with this little sweater that I'll show you here.
It's just a little sweater that I also bought at Flashbacks, a resale place here in San
Diego County.
It's a little bit of a mod sweater that I think has these squares and goes with it,
and I have these Oxfords, my red Oxfords that pick up the same color as the sweater.
I think I will be a little stylish, but also comfortable.
Tonight, I'm super excited.
I get to go and see the Donna Summer musical for the second time.
I loved it the first time, and I just found out that it is going to New York in April
of 2018.
We thought our son would like it, and we got tickets to go see it right before it closes.
Very excited, and since it is an evening performance and '70s, and I've seen it, I decided to
go a little wild and crazy with what I'm wearing to it today.
Here's what I have on.
This is a two-piece set.
They're called pajama glamas, almost.
It is made and designed by a local designer here in San Diego, Jennifer Grace.
I love.
She makes the most wonderful things, and I buy it at a place called Chateau Bellage,
which is this very cool boutique, and the owner Valerie gets to know all her clients
and has parties and things in there.
It's a very fun shopping experience.
I recently picked this up, little tigers and the print on it.
It literally is like wearing pajamas, and you can style it different ways.
I'll be doing a video on how to style this and other pieces from there in different ways.
Super comfortable, but I think a little fun for an event like this.
Then, I paired it with these super fun gold Sven clogs with a halter top, which I think
again, give it a little bit of a '70s vibe.
Sparkle it up, tie it together.
I'm going to get some hot stuff tonight at the Donna Summer musical in this outfit.
Special cameo appearance by my wonderful son, Dane Hayden here.
As I told you, we are off to see the Donna Summer musical, and somebody else has decided
to dress in theme.
Look at this fantastic outfit he is sporting.
Dane, can you tell us what this is?
Dane Hayden: This is just from ASOS.
It's an online trendy clothing shop.
I thought it was so fabulous with the fringe that I just had to get it.
Then, these I've had for a while.
I think they are Topshop.
Then, these I got—
Rajka Hayden: Tell about this.
Dane Hayden: They're never been worn Christian Louboutins,
and it's an app where people can sign their designer.
It's was at a fraction of the cost.
Rajka Hayden: Oh, my God.
Those are fantastic.
Dane Hayden: They have the little cheetah print.
Rajka Hayden: Can you see this?
Look at the cheetah print.
We're channeling some animals here.
The cheetah print, and check out the red sole.
Never, ever worn.
Dane Hayden: And it matches the—
Rajka Hayden: Oh, my gosh.
Fantastic.
We are going to have a ball.
That's it for this time, my friends.
Thank you so much for watching.
I appreciate it more than you know.
I would love to know in the comments below your favorite outfits.
What you liked, what worked.
If there was something that didn't work, let me know that, too.
I particularly like to know what you thought did work.
Until next time, have fun and dress it up a little.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo — Breaking Convention - Duration: 15:42.
Hi, I'm Michael.
This is Lessons from the Screenplay.
It's been over six years since "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was released,
and it remains one of my favorite David Fincher films.
It's an intriguing murder mystery,
as well as a story about two unfamiliar characters with a unique relationship.
But the film is also interesting from a structural perspective.
As Fincher said of the script:
"There was really no way to take what Larson had written
and get it into three acts.
And so we had to make our peace with the idea of a five act structure."
In my last video on The Avengers,
I looked at the elements of a classical five-act structure.
But despite having five acts, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" doesn't fit that model.
Instead, it's full of abnormalities,
where the subplot is the focus of much of the film,
and at times feels like it swaps protagonists.
This is why it was the first film I thought of when I heard Fincher's recent quote,
where he implied that Marvel films are "lassoed and hogtied by three acts."
As I said in my last video, I have become obsessed with this statement,
and today I want to explore its deeper meaning.
To see how Marvel films are constrained by three acts and narrative conventions,
and how "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" subverts them.
To dissect the anatomy of an act,
examining how a film can break the rules and follow them at the same time.
...And reveal the effort put into setting up
the Fincher trilogy that never came to be.
Let's take a look at The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
When David Fincher implied that the Marvel Cinematic Universe was
"lassoed and hogtied by three acts,"
he wasn't talking about the literal number of acts.
He was referring to the fact that most Marvel films have to be essentially the same.
They need to be widely accessible
so they can reach a large enough audience to make money,
which historically means following certain narrative conventions.
I've identified three conventions in particular that I've found in almost all Marvel films,
and which Fincher likes to subvert.
The first convention is that nearly the entire film is about a single, clear protagonist.
Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange:
there is a single, clear protagonist driving the plot forward.
Subplots for love stories and supporting characters exist,
but they take a backseat.
Second, these subplots are resolved just before the climax or immediately after.
This allows all the loose ends to come together and be tied up nicely in the end.
Usually this means the subplots have their own climax
just before the protagonist journeys on to the final battle...
...or they resolve right after, but quickly so the film can end as soon as possible.
And finally, the third convention is that they closely follow
Syd Field's three act paradigm.
We meet a hero who wants something but can't have it.
They make a difficult choice to go after it.
The struggle turns out to be harder than they expected.
They make another choice to become the person they need to be.
They defeat the bad guy.
Movie over.
Almost all films follow these conventions.
A nd to be clear, a film isn't automatically bad because it follows these conventions,
nor is a film automatically good just because it breaks them.
But as Fincher implies in his quote,
when you have to tick all these boxes there is only so much room to play around.
So what does it look like when you don't tick all the boxes?
Well, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" does have a clear protagonist in Mikael Blomkvist,
but a significant portion of the film is spent on Lisbeth's story.
The subplots of the film certainly do not resolve just before
or immediately after the climax of the main plot.
And while you could probably apply the three-act structure to the film—
as you can with almost all films—
it certainly does not fit tidily within the walls of Syd Field's paradigm.
By breaking these conventions,
"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" can tell a complex story with multiple plot threads,
letting us get to know a main character other than the protagonist in a much deeper way.
So does the film not have any structure whatsoever?
Of course it does.
Despite subverting the three act paradigm,
screenwriter Steven Zaillian made sure that each individual act
contained the essential elements of story.
In his book Into the Woods: A Five-Act Journey Into Story, John Yorke writes:
"Fractal theory dictates that every act will contain all the essential elements of story:
protagonist, antagonist, inciting incident,
journey, crisis, climax and, occasionally, resolution."
Every act in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" has each of these elements,
telling a story unto itself while playing a unique role in the overall film.
So let's dissect each act to see how they use the essential elements of story
to achieve this.
Act One: What will Mikael do now that his life is ruined?
This act's function is to set-up the story.
We meet the characters and learn what the film is about.
The protagonist, Mikael Blomkvist,
has just been sued for libel and lost, so his desire/journey is to hide from the world.
"I'm going to go home. Crawl under the duvet for a week."
But then he gets a phone call—
the inciting incident—where he is enticed to meet Henrik Vanger.
Henrik is the antagonist of this act, not because he's a bad guy,
but because he's the one blocking Mikael's desire to hide from the world.
The crisis comes when Henrik asks Mikael to solve a forty-year-old murder mystery,
and the climax is when Henrik offers Mikael the one thing he wants most...
Henrik: "Hans-Erik Wennerstrom."
...revenge on the man who has just ruined Mikael's life.
The resolution is that Mikael agrees to try to solve Henrik's mystery.
Act One is a pretty standard first act, like you would find in most films.
Act two, however, is where things get more complex.
Act Two: Can Mikael uncover something new about Harriet's disappearance?
The second act has to keep the main plot engaging,
while also spending half its time on something completely unrelated.
So how does the screenwriter achieve this?
He makes essentially makes the second act have two protagonists,
with their elements of story running in parallel.
The protagonist in the main plot is still Mikael,
and his antagonist is now the mysterious past that holds the secrets he's after.
The protagonist of the subplot is Lisbeth,
who is forced to report to a new guardian, Bjurman, her antagonist.
Mikael's inciting incident comes when he speaks to the retired officer
who was assigned to Harriet's case.
This sets up Mikael's desire/journey: answer the questions the officer never could
by collecting new evidence and getting to know the Vanger family.
Lisbeth's inciting incident comes when someone tries to steal her laptop and it ends up destroyed.
Her desire/journey is to be able to control her own money,
but as a ward of the state the only way to get it is through Bjurman,
who she soon learns is not shy about abusing his power in the most horrific way.
The crisis of Mikael's plot comes when he flips through the old photos of Harriet
and realizes she was afraid of someone.
And the climax is when he realizes what the numbers and names in the diary mean.
Mikael has uncovered something new.
The crisis of Lisbeth's plot comes when Bjurman takes his abuse to a new extreme.
And the climax is when she gets her brutal revenge.
Now that Mikael knows he's not wasting his time with this investigation,
the resolution of the act comes as he asks for a research assistant.
This second act has two stories going on at once,
one that moves the main plot forward
and another that provides a detailed portrait of Lisbeth—our other main character,
who has yet enter the main story.
But in the third act, that will change.
Act 3: Will Lisbeth get along with Mikael and be able to help him?
In the Syd Field "paradigm" model of a screenplay, act three is where the story ends.
But in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,
the third act is where our main characters meet for the first time.
The protagonist is Mikael, and this time Lisbeth is the antagonist of the act.
She is the unknown quantity, the person who must be convinced.
The inciting incident comes as Mikael learns Lisbeth investigated him,
violating his privacy by doing so.
Mikael's desire is to understand why Harriet was tracking the murders
of young women in her diary, and asks Lisbeth to help.
"I want you to help me catch a killer of women."
His journey involves looking for more evidence,
as Lisbeth tracks down new information about the women who were killed.
And all the while, they are figuring out their relationship.
The crisis comes when Mikael is shot at.
Someone is trying to scare him away.
This leads to the climax, where Lisbeth stitches him up and they begin a sexual relationship.
This resolution signifies them becoming partners.
"I like working with you."
"I like working with you too."
Act Four: Is there a connection between the Vanger corporation and the murders?
The fourth act contains what would be in the third act of a normal movie—
the final showdown with the antagonist.
Protagonist: Mikael.
Antagonist: Martin Vanger.
Inciting Incident:
Mikael and Lisbeth get permission to search the Vanger company's records.
Desire/Journey:
To find out if there is...
"Any connections between Vanger industries and the towns where the women were killed."
The Crisis: Mikael discovers that Martin is the killer, and is captured.
The Climax: Mikael is saved in the last moment by Lisbeth,
who chases Martin, causing him to die in a car crash.
Resolution: In the aftermath,
Mikael realizes that Harriet is still alive, and she is reunited with Henrik.
This plays like the end of a normal film, where the act answers its own dramatic question,
as well as the dramatic question of the main plot.
It feels like the film should be over, because if it followed convention, it would be.
But there are still several loose ends that need tying up.
So instead, we move in to the weirdest act..
Act Five: What will happen with Wennerstrom?
Slash, what will become of Lisbeth and Mikael?
In the fifth act, there are again two stories happening at once.
The one that is front-and-center is Lisbeth,
the protagonist, taking down Wennerstrom, the antagonist.
The inciting incident is when she hears Mikael say that
Wennerstrom probably won't get jail time for his crimes.
Her desire is to give him the punishment he deserves,
and her journey involves adopting a disguise, clever hacking,
and stealing billions of dollars form him.
The crisis comes when she successfully empties his bank accounts into her own,
and the climax comes when it's announced that Wennerstrom was executed by his mob affiliates.
Lisbeth's actions are fueled by her desire to see appropriate punishment be administered,
but it's also an expression of her feelings for Mikael,
which I think is the more moving story of this act.
Lisbeth, protagonist,
realizes she has feelings for Mikael, antagonist,
during the inciting incident, when he agrees to lend her fifty thousand dollars.
"Ok."
"Ok?"
It's the most anyone has ever trusted her.
"You want a coffee?"
Her desire/journey becomes to tell him how she feels.
After taking down Mikael's sworn enemy, she writes him a letter, and buys him a gift.
But the crisis comes when Lisbeth goes to give him the gift,
and sees that he's with Erika.
The climax is when she chooses to turn around and throws the present in the trash.
And the resolution:
heartbroken, she gets on her motorcycle, and rides off.
Each act of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" serves a unique function in the overall story,
and several acts contain story beats not found in conventional films.
But by making sure that each act has the essential elements,
it ensures that it's never just showing a series of events happening,
but rather, telling a story.
When reading the screenplay,
I noticed that the last line of the script was strangely prophetic,
when it explains that Lisbeth...
"climbs onto her Honda - starts it - and drives off -"
"Probably forever."
The unconventional structure of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
wasn't there simply to provide interesting storytelling,
it had to set up important backstory for Lisbeth.
"Even though we're not getting into it in great detail in the first movie,
it has to inform everything that she does. We will get into it, eventually."
This is because everyone—the writer, the cast, even Fincher—
assumed this film was going to be part one of a trilogy.
The opening sequence contains imagery from all three of the stories.
Erika, Christer Malm, Bjurman, Armansky, Miriam, and Annika, Mikael's sister,
all had to be cast and appear in small roles
knowing they would be an important part of the next films.
Players in a complex trilogy poised to challenge convention, that would ultimately never be.
This, I think, is the last key to understanding Fincher's quote about Marvel.
When talking about signing on to do "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," Fincher said:
"I wasn't that interested in making another serial killer movie as much as
the studio was committed to the idea of a hard-R rated adult franchise.
And I thought: 'I've been waiting my whole career to hear this.'"
He wanted to turn the Dragon Tattoo trilogy into something
"thoughtful, adult, interesting, complex, and challenging."
But when it was released, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo made "only" $102 million.
Five months later, The Avengers would make $600 million.
Certainly, more determines the success of a film
than the conventionality of its narrative structure.
But as an audience, we have become so programmed to expect a three-act structure
and a tidy resolution,
that we often get uncomfortable when a story breaks that formula.
But when a story isn't beholden to narrative conventions,
and when we're willing to be uncomfortable, we get to have new experiences.
Over the last decade, that kind of experimentation has been happening less and less in film,
and more and more in television.
And as long as fun, safe films dominate the box office,
that will continue to be the case.
My personal takeaway from all this
is that regardless of the medium you work in,
it's important to learn the essential elements of story so your script is always compelling.
It's important to learn the narrative conventions
so you can anticipate what the audience is expecting.
And it's important to learn all the rules...

NEW DLC MAP ANTHROPOID SPAWN GUIDE Call of Duty WWII - Duration: 10:09.
Welcome to JGOD gaming in today's you'll be looking at the new DLC
map anthropoid as part of the first DLC in Call of Duty World War 2 and for me
the thing that I always like to look at is spawns because the better you know
the spawns a better you can predict and maneuver around and outplay your
opponents so just looking at the map you can see overall size-wise it's pretty
large it's probably just a little bit larger
than Gibraltar as size-wise the first bombs we'll be taking a look at are the
team deathmatch spawns because that's probably the mode a majority of the
population place if this is your first time watching any my spawning guides
I'll explain it a little bit the red areas are just simply where you are
likely to spawn probably not a hundred percent accurate as far as this is
exactly but this is like 95 percent likely where you're going to spawn so
you can use that as a predictor of where your enemies are spawning as well as how
to maneuver and know where they're gonna be coming from the next one we'll be
looking at is domination so you can see domination the spawns move just slightly
just depending on where you're at but there is a little bit now an area by the
stairs right by see so there's ABC you kind of get idea of where to position
yourself kind of empty on that right side still potentially someone could
spawn there but from my testing I didn't really have anyone spawn there the next
one won't be taking a look at his hard point you can see there's four points of
rotation but pretty much the spawns are very similar to team deathmatch as does
the hardpoint moves the spawn points rotate a little bit as well it's just
something you got to get used to but these are the different rotational
points and obviously we see the spawn locations that are really close to the
hardpoint probably ideal wants to have and the
last one we'll look at is capture the flag before I demonstrate how to
actually use these because I want to show you proof of concept that these are
a pretty accurate this is pretty much how they work so you can see capture the
flag there's very very small spawn locations so I'm gonna expect that this
map will probably have spawn trapping like a lot of the other maps in this
game they're very rigid you're locked into certain areas so that's probably
what I would expect from this particular map if you'd like to have access to all
of these images they're gonna be down in the description below so go ahead and
check that out you should be able to click on them and save them to your
phone or to your computer if you'd like so that when you do actually play this
new map you'll have a better idea of how to play it and how to effectively use
these guys so as I've done with a lot of my different spawn guys I load up the
map I play TDM with bots six versus six I'm one of the the spots and then pretty
much I go around the map forcing flipping spawns and kind of give you
some ideas of how to play the map based off my observation so the first tip I'd
give for this map is just stay to the outskirts and then just kind of rotate
from spawn just spawn going back and forth and then that should give you the
best opportunity to not get flanked and have a better control of the map and
sense of where opponents are so I'm gonna look at this overview pretty often
after I get the Recon going and give you a good idea of how things are supposed
to be flowing so I'm gonna push down on this right side because I know the enemy
team is spawning down this long stretch so you might want to use a sniper or a
long-distance weapon because this Lane is pretty long so right here you can see
the guy popped out get a kill continue to push and teammates are doing some
work too so I don't get the Recon right away but I know they're gonna come from
there that's one of the stickier spawns as you can see based off the spawn guy
floating in the top-right corner they really only have two spawns on this side
which is just those lower two so kind of rotating back and forth it looks like we
flipped the spawn so now the enemy team is on the other side so that's a problem
with the maps so large you do have to kind of navigate awhile to actually run
into people I got an assist there so another or not recon so I'm kind of just
moving around forcing engagements just because I want to kind of push the point
of how to actually use the guide so as soon as you get that first recon that's
where it's a game changer you can see the guy running through mid
got a little hit marker on him didn't finish him off but now I'm rotating
through here I can see I'm in a spawn so I just passed through one so now they
could spawn behind me or they're gonna spawn in front of me and I'm just kind
of rotating going forward through and seeing kind of what I can see I'm not
really running into anyone unfortunately that's just a bad luck of the match
again that goes back to the size of the map being pretty large so the teammate
in front of me so I went turn around and that teammate ends up dying so the
spawns are still where they're at you can see the enemy team is still coming
from the stairs area pick someone up from mid get the Recon and now all the
enemy team is rushing from that bottom spawn that you can see actually on the
spawn guide so pretty much a pickup people off get a chance to look again
probably at the overview you can see there now the spawns did flip they're
all coming from this top area in this top right area so pretty much I could
just pick them up call another recon and I know they're all in this area and even
though I'm standing right there they literally spawn right there and walked a
few steps so now they're all really in this middle section in corner as I push
through so right now I'm gonna probably force flip the spawns take this guy out
there's really no enemies on this side of the map so as I navigate through you
can see they're spawning back at the bottom at that main original spawn keep
in mind that this video is not necessarily for entertainment like
giving you some crazy fancy gameplay or else I would have just pulled a match
from the lobby the whole point of this is just to show the practical
application of how to use the spawn guide and a lot of times it's very
apparent that the spawn guides are very accurate when you actually do this
method you're running around and pretty much the enemies are only showing up in
pretty much a few of the locations maybe not even all of them when you play every
match but for the most part when you go around they're all gonna be coming out
of the similar areas so right there I avoid middle I don't go to the middle
very often just because on this type of map I think is designed more like the
maps a lot of times we're used to in Call of Duty which pretty much you don't
go to the middle because it's probably about five or six different areas where
you can get shot from so you typically want to avoid that so you can see the
enemy team just spawn in the bottom at the top of these stairs so I should be
able to take him out and I know that other spawn is just to the side so I'm
gonna go ahead and pop out you can see four little blips on the mini-map I'm
gonna go from this way since the teammate went top cut them off and
that's pretty much how you're gonna get them if I went through the building I
probably could have taken out all of them just because the way the position
of the building is you got height advantage elevation better angle and
pretty much I'm running through their spawn face off where my teammates are
spawns are not flipping you still come right here you got me in the back I
shouldn't take it too casual but pretty much that's what happened I got shot in
the back so pretty much you can still see the
bonds they all just came out of that bottom left spawn so you they're all
pushing down that stairs so if you really want to control someone kind of
corral them you could position yourself so that you can pick people off coming
down those stairs and then as well as from the other side just because they're
probably gonna be expecting it they're just running right out of spawn trying
to get back into the action and from the sidelines they did design in a way that
there's a little bit of angles so that you don't just get popped right as soon
as you're in the spawn but at the end of the day it's still potential to get kind
of trapped in the spawn if I were to play probably briefer I would guess at
this top section above these stairs is probably an ideal spot because you got
the different vantage points and you'll be able to hear a pretty good radius of
where people are coming from so you can see right here as I pop out the window
people are there running out this way that would be a good spot to pick them
off because they're just gonna come around that corner and then they all
look like they spawned up top right behind me and they actually went down
the stairs so you can see that the spawn guide is accurate it's as accurate as
any of the other spawn guides I've done before so it's just a matter of practice
they still keep coming up from this top area take them out and continue to push
a lot of times in the comments section people will ask me different drills for
accuracy and there's different things you can do to stay more accurate but the
thing I want to focus on is doing this specific challenge yourself actually
play and and see if you could predict where the enemies going to be based off
where they're spawning and where you kill them where you're running at and
you get practice playing online which is bots and then as you get better at it if
you want to play online and see how that works you can do that and you're just
gonna get better over time at predicting it or if you just want to go straight
online and use the the spawn guide as a guide you can do that as well either way
whatever makes the most sense to you is really the key because you just want to
get better at understanding the way the map is supposed to be moved across and
for this one I wouldn't go to the middle just because there's so much going on um
you can see in this entire way I just kind of do a circle around the map
because base off where the spawns are people are they gonna go straight to the
middle get shot getting engagements or they're gonna be coming down these steps
or coming in this corner so it makes it pretty easy to kind of predict you see
there behind me now just kind of maneuvering take this guy out and the
spawns just continue to be consistent the way they have always been I really
wish that sledgehammer games would probably consider looking at how the
spawns work because at the moment I still think they're kind of bad
considering how they worked in some of the other games it was a little bit more
freedom than the spawn choice I want to make sure I got the spawn guide out so
quick just because for me personally I know I jumped into the matches had no
clue how they were supposed to be played couldn't predict the spawn just overall
felt like they had bad flow to them but overall now that I got a better idea of
how this map works and you'll see the other DLC maps very soon as well so stay
tuned for that make sure you subscribe if you haven't
already if you're interested in paying attention anything about spawn guides on
my channel so go ahead and make sure you pay attention to that they should be
coming very soon but they do help map knowledge map awareness is the key in a
boots on the ground Call of Duty and any call of duty in general just keep that
in mind hopefully enjoyed the video go ahead

ProYo Vanilla Bean | High-Protein, Low-Carb, Low-Fat (!?!) Ice Cream Review - Duration: 6:27.
So I was strolling through the frozen section of my grocery store the other
day, and I stumbled upon this guy. ProYo high protein ice cream. Gonna give this a
shot, coming right up. Hey guys. Welcome to A.D. Keto. My name is Aaron. This is the
channel where we talk about the ketogenic diet. I do some keto food vlogs,
I do some keto product reviews, and I do some keto recipes. If this is your first
time here, please consider subscribing, and if you do, be sure to click the bell
icon so you get a notification whenever I upload new content. All right. I know
some of you are thinking, "Why are you reviewing a low-fat ice cream?!" Well, it's
a high-protein ice cream. A low-fat ice cream. But the macros seem to work. I'll
get into those in just a minute. But I found this the other day. ProYo. I
was just kind of dazzled by the packaging, honestly. I like the colors and
the font, and it's it's cool-looking. And then I checked the the macros, and it's
like... this could fit into my diet somehow. so I'm gonna check it out. If you're new
here, I do a lot of ice cream reviews. I tend to split them into three sections:
In the first section, I talk about the texture. What does the ice cream feel
like coming out of the container? What's it feel like once I get it into my mouth?
The second part of the review is the taste. What's it taste like, based on my
expectation? This is vanilla bean flavor. So that's kind of what I'm expecting.
Shouldn't be any big surprises there. And then the third part of the review that I
talk about is the carb situation, and I'll get into the entire macro situation
of this particular ice cream, this ProYo ice cream. So I'd never seen this before.
Saw it, and let me just read you what it says on the side, here. From ProYo
founder Nathan Carey: "It began with a bang -- a weightlifting accident that sent
me into months of rehab. Inspired by the patients I met there -- many
on restricted, joyless diets -- I set out to create the ultimate nutritionally
balanced treat. ProYo is a revolutionary high protein blend that combines
delicious tastes, clean ingredients, and a touch of delight. It's food with purpose,
for anyone with optimism and a desire to dig in to life. ProYo is for you." Well,
we'll see about that. But they have a list of things on the side here --
These blue circles down the side. Again, the packaging...kinda
is super cool, and really is the main reason I bought it.
Non-GMO, gluten, and soy free. Good source of fiber, low glycemic, low fat (oh well),
and rBST and rBGH-free milk. It does say to soften for one to two minutes. So it's
been softening for probably twice as long as I as it tells me to. Well, let's
dig into this guy. I'm curious to see. No messaging. Down and dirty with the ProYo.
Oh boy! Okay. I just peeled this off, and it appears to
be kind of gooey. Like, look what's happening there.
Whoa! Dude, what? Okay, let's uh... let's check it out. All right, well, I mean that's... it's
pretty soft. It's been out of the fridge for five minutes.
It's sweet, too -- it's very sweet. The texture, I...you know, it's a... it's a
little...like, flaccid? It's kind of uh... seems a little watery or something. But
it's actually quite good. Yeah, it's got a strange sort of wetness to it. Kinda odd.
But it feels like ice cream. You know, it's just melting pretty quickly. And
taste is good. Sweeter than Halo Top's version of vanilla bean, I would say. This
ProYo is a little bit sweeter than that. All right, so the thing I wanted to talk
about most is the nutrition information. the carbs and and everything else -- so
let's take a look at it this ProYo. Normally, in a pint like this, like... if
this were a Halo Top pint, it would be four servings. This is 3.5
servings. I don't quite know why that is, but that's how they've done it here. It is
low-fat. 1.5 grams of fat, 10 grams of protein, and then total carbs 19 grams,
dietary fiber 3 grams, sugar alcohol 7 grams. So 9 net carbs per serving, times 3
and a half. That's, what? 31 and a half net carbs for
the entire pint. So again, if I wanted this entire thing, I could probably do it.
Let me read you the ingredients, here, because they are good.
Skim milk, whole milk, whey protein concentrate, xylitol, cane sugar, inulin,
I don't know what inulin is. I'll have to look that up. Natural flavors, ground vanilla beans.
That's it. All ingredients are non-GMO. Contains the following allergens: milk. So
ProYo. I am a fan of the flavor and the texture. And the macros, honestly. You know,
not everything on keto has to be high fat. This can fit into a keto diet, for
sure. The price of this, if I recall, was a little bit more than I'd usually pay for
a pint of ice cream. I think it was around $6. It was a while ago that I
bought it, though, so I don't quite remember. But I remember being a little bit more
expensive than Halo Top. Not much, but a little bit more. So that's gonna
wrap it up for the review. That's ProYo. Low-fat, high-protein ice cream. Let me
know if you guys have had this. What do you think? I'd be curious to hear your
thoughts. I hope you have a fantastic day, and I will talk to you next time.

How to Get Qualified Leads with Video Marketing - Duration: 3:17.
- Hands down, the best way to drive leads
straight to you, without ever selling.
(beep)
Without a doubt, the best video marketing strategy
I implemented in my business last year
was the #100in30.
It all started when I was chatting with my husband
about some different ways to promote an upcoming product.
And he recommended I get on the phone with some people.
I was like, duh.
He was like "You need to talk to 100 people".
Of course, this made total sense.
I had been pulling away from ads, funnels,
and anything on the less personal side
of my business for a long time.
Last summer in June, I hosted the Social Summer Party,
that was all about getting social on social,
using what I called the co-factor.
Connect, communicate, start a conversation,
and build your community.
So chatting it up with 100 people was an obvious next step.
So I challenged myself to chat with 100 people
over the course of 30 days and boom,
the #100in30 was born.
I was able to not only have amazing conversations
with my audience, but I was able to fill my pipeline
with over $18,000.00 in sales (cash register ringing)
without ever pitching or directly selling.
The calls were pitch-free and genuinely all about helping.
It was real conversations that created real change,
but converted it into real cash.
It was a win-win and I love creating
win-wins in my business.
Here's what some people had to say.
Here are some of the benefits of implementing
this marketing strategy.
You can gain exposure and get noticed through the noise.
I was able to discover my audience's true pain points.
I filled my pipeline full of qualified leads.
I was able to build new relationships
and strengthen existing relationships.
I got tons of ideas for new content, courses and freebies.
Now you tell me that's not a win-win.
I could spend hours to days trying to implement
a marketing tactic, or strategy that felt gross to me
and resulted in less hair on my head
and frustrated prospects who unsubscribed,
never to be heard from again.
Or, I could lean back on my common sense,
and what my intuition told me was an amazing idea.
It made me feel so good, it made my audience feel good.
Can you feel the love?
Can you see the difference?
I used my existing tools to automate what I could.
I created a system, and then I set out to promote
the #100in30 everywhere I possibly could.
And it felt great to promote, because I was extending
an offer of genuine help without a hard pitch.
I loved it so much, I'm doing it again in February.
February's all about falling
back in love or in love with video.
So if you don't love video right now, then we need to chat.
I've opened up my calendar and I would love
to talk to you about all things video.
Go on over to bit.ly/helpmehollyg,
and if you want to put together your own #100in30,
then go on over to bit.ly/100in30minicourse
and I will see you there.
If you liked this video, make sure to like it
and subscribe to my channel.
If you know someone who could benefit from this information,
then go ahead and share it up and remember,
you're someone's reason to smile so don't give up.

I mean, I should die to listen to what you have to say.
But, who are you?
I mean, do we know each other?
Who wrote this thing?
You'd like that? I have to die...
Die!
What?! No
No! No! No!

Do I have to die for you?

Cycling in Laos. Longboat down the Mekong, Luang Prabang, spicy food and Vang Vieng (Laos #1) - Duration: 24:26.
It will be the next exciting day of our lives
I'm planning not to get my ass up for 9 hours
I'll be seating
reading, but I'm still sleepy
so I can't speak fast
The road to Kazakhstan
Episode eight
Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng
We are going to sort out the longboat
It's 9am, middle of the night
if all goes well, we will be at Mekong in 2 hours
Will he make it?
the guy
I hope so, I wouldn't be happy about the bike in the water
Only 14 hours left
The engine sound is not even from our boat
Longboat is not the most comfy way to get down the Mekong river.
but it gives you great opportunities to see the locals
and mekong
the first manuscripts about the civilisation at Mekong
are dating back to the 1st century AD.
The chinese call mekong Láncāng Jiāng
the turbulent river
In Thailand and Laos
Me Nam Kong
the mother of waters
I guess they knew the importance of Mekong
The source of Mekong is in Tibet
It goes for 4300 kilometres
through China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand
Vietnam, all the way to South Chinese Sea
It is the second most diverse region in the world, after Amazonia
Mor than 800 fish species live here
1200 species of birds
and more than 20,000 species of plants grow here.
The water conditions are perfect for gigantic fish
Gigantic stingray, gigantic cat fish
gigantic cat fish of more than 1.5 metres
are not a novelty for local fisherman
nearly as big as in Rybnik, Poland...
Today, there are 60 milion people living at the riverbank of Mekong
Completely dependant on Mekong
Especially Laos
Where the average person eats 150 kilograms of rice per year
and 80% of proteins in diet are Mekong fish
probably because of that,
the biggest 'inland' fish farm is on Mekong
For 60,000 kip (7 usd)
we have a super comfy stay with a toilet
luxury
there is even a bed here
life could not be any better
Middle of the night again, 8am
even 7am
Yesterday we walked around the whole city of Pak beng
the transit city on the way to Luang Prabang
Actually, there is nothing to see here
apart from 2 bakeries
the selling stands
a restaurant
and a bunch of guesthouses
This is the first day without the sun
and it's not warm, it's only 20 degrees.
maybe 25.
nearly freezing point.
Looking at this communist flag
We can say that Laos is one of the four countries with communism left
Under the pressure from Vietnam
and apparently communism is fully in place, fortunately it is not very visible for tourists
apart from few flags
and communist party buildings
the streets seem relatively peaceful
but the people go missing
it is a bit different than Thailand
so I was pretty scared going to the dark alleys
but I have the american knife to fight the communism
Anyway, according to the rankings
Laos is the 26th most starving country in the world.
but the GDP is growing fast
and the tourism influences them positively
they opened the borders for tourists
and the french and polish are invading
the visa for 30 days is $30
+ $1 extra for 'services'
can you see how it's washing?
if it wouldn't be for the
Lao government and their mekong dam
we could float to Cambodia down the stream
but someone fucked up
and decided that Laos will sell electricity to its neighbours
*Unsuccessful electricity transaction* It's going down
and the Mekong dried out in the bottom parts
so you can't pass through
the main transport channel is blocked
because they pretend to sell electricity
to Vietnam (most likely give away), Cambodia and Thailand
Probably not earning on it
in communism you share and create.
The express arrived
They designed a harbour 10km away from the city
and are charging a lot for those 10km from the tourists. Great plan.
Probably, no locals would ever go on a longboat
What are the most common products here?
Probably elephant pants
Cotton!
and hand craft
ahh, you give me too much facts
and I want you to tell me facts like a pro
you should go to that lady and say something stupid like
'with smile you can communicate everywhere'
we are at the Luang Prabang market
the market is at night because of the temperature
and the people here
mostly sell cotton products
because they produce it locally
sometimes it's also hand crafts
spoons and other shiny stuff
jewellery
Just relating back to communism
they had it for the past 40 years
not long you say?
they got rid of the king in 70s
and the king died in prison
and the communist party started their rule
and of course they are the only legal political party in the country.
all the opposition will die in prison
or die unexpectedly
and this is how it works.
We are heading to the Vietnamese embassy
it's 11am, middle of the night
I woke up 3 minutes ago.
open till 11:30...
Visas to be picked up in 2 days
48h at 11am
it is 46h in fact
The people we meet so far are not enjoying Laos.
It is very expensive
more expensive than Thailand with worse standards
and they are lacking roads
all the ladies here sell the same stuff for the same price
there is at least 20 of them
a big cooperation of the ladies
probably one person is behind all these.
for 10,000 kip (less than 1usd)
you get a subway type sandwich
in Lao style, laothian
whatever
They'll probably start shouting at us soon
spotting the hunger in Ada's eyes
this is it, but half gone
how do you feel with millions in your hand
I don't like it
why?
I feel like I have too much
and it annoys me
so, 5 usd is too much for you
it's not 5 usd
it's a million
We are picking up our visas soon
in about 45 minutes
and we will be able to go to Vietnam
in about 10 days
the prices here are similar to the UK
for example yesterday we bought a wine for 8 pounds.
yeah, it's much
you have to pay for everything here.
for shitting, pissing, walking, hiking.
for breathing also probably in the stay tax.
it's not easy.
there must be some jewish seed planted here
in 'common words'
if all goes well, tomorrow we will be heading towards Vang Vieng
it should be ready for 5 minutes.
We got the visas, so we can just go.
probably
another food poisoning on the road
of a space ship heading to Vang Vieng
Do you have detestation for rice or curry?
I don't have a detestation for anything, because I don't know what poisoned me.
The diarrhoea happened already
Now it is time for heartburn
and general weakness
the medication I got in Thailand
Ada took, maybe it will help
but still, the problem of 90 kilometres of climbs stays
it's ahead of us.
so probably we will go back and look for a lift
by bike by bus again.
maybe we should produce the series like Charlie Boorman
the one travelling 'by any means'
we can have the version 'by any means by bike'
so, this is how this cycling will look like
and we are few kilometres from Luang Prabang
oh, nice butterfly
right, we can go
the good thing is, that we will be in the hippie city for the weekend
How do you feel with going up by bus, instead of a bike?
Don't you feel bad about it?
A little bit, really.
It took 2 hours to do 20 kilometres.
it's unreal
but it's truth
so bikes are quick for the standards of Laos.
So we are here in Vang Vieng.
The bikes mounted, ready to go to some hostel.
There is a free whiskey from 17:30
so the part is from 17:30 to 22:15
To abide the law
The music is really messed up
from reggae to hardstyle
The Lao Amsterdam
or Vang Vieng
where you have to pay for everything.
but shrooms and opium is in the air.
you can buy everything.
also Jabba
which is legal for the truck drivers.
crystal meth
oh, it's river.
Some rain got us.
the first in a month, really small one though.
it's a nice feeling.
and the sky is grey, for the past 2 days.
it's hard to take good pictures.
tomorrow will be warm again.
we are at the organic goat farm
wondering how much 'organic' there is in it. They have goat cheese fortunately.
It can be as organic as a supermarket.
We are sitting at the farm, it's sunday
a nice breeze of rain hits our faces.
and we are waiting for the goat cheese, straight from the local goats.
maybe one or two.
they should have few
We are in Vang Vieng, the 100% party type of town.
Where shrooms, opium
jabba (crystal meth) are freely available to buy.
the police apparently doesn't care too much.
everything is illegal but legal.
the fine for possession is about 3-4 million kip
which is 300-400 US dollars.
they take your passport until you pay.
so the city probably earns by it.
We got here by bus.
There were a lot of hills
and we just sat there without pedalling
it took us 8 hours for an insanely small distance.
and we took a bus because of the
ada's 'food' problems
anyway, the food doesn't suit us very well here
every 2 days, there is something going on inside the stomach.
weird noises
even this morning something happened.
so we didn't eat until 2pm.
and it seems fine
probably.
We are heading south next.
towards Vientiane, the capital
We didn't cycle much over the past few days.
we waited for visas
in Luang Prabang
for 4 days.
I thought I'll do my master thesis in the meantime but I didn't make it.
so Jabba and 36 hours to finish it.
goat cheese.
mmmm
The cheese from Laotian goat
the communist goat
giving bitter milk
for the capitalist enemies
It's the main gathering spot for kayaking
you just go down the stream and hit the bars on the way
the bars are at the riverbank
and until 2013
one tourist per week died here
because of alcohol and water
can you see it?
We have a snake on the road
it's approaching us
it's probably one of the bamboo snakes.
I don't know, but I don't want it approaching me.
I wouldn't want to see it dead.
Go snake.
ay, off you go.
He made it.
oh God.
Should I go?
The first snake encounter on the road.
We nearly went over him.
oh fuck.
We got a lunch
just a salad
it's so terribly spicy, that we can't handle it.
even water doesn't help
papaya salad
at least it will 'kill the worms'
If there is anything like anus palpitation
I think I'll get it.
Anything?
it is a very extreme experience.
I'm starting to have small convulsions
shivers
I can't feel my face
I'm cold
and I'm unsure of my body abilities
I think the food hit me too hard
the peppers
oh, it's cows
bulls
packed up tightly
You can barely breath
with all these
air pollution and dust
and rubbish everywhere.
a lot of rubbish
We were meant to cycle 95 kilometres today.
We cycled 85 instead.
The lake that was meant to be really beautiful turned out to be a pothole filled with water.
We are 70 kilometres north of Vientiane.
the capital city.
Not very far away.
If we get going in the morning, we will make if for dinner.
and it's all for this episode
in 'where you go, you there.'
and there were cows on the way
and goats
and cocks and 2 dogs
My woman stopped working.
working with a plough
I'll have to get a horse instead.
or a cow
Nearly in Vientiane. Not enough cycling in this cycling. The diarrhoea doesn't pick the time or a place.
And what salad did I get for supper?
It was meant to be cucumber salad.
It turned out to be exactly the same salad as before.
the one which nearly killed me
face burned, stomach burned
all body insides burned.
