Fake Guns Are Killing A Lot Of People - Duration: 7:15.

>> THE WASHINGTON POST CONTINUES TO GATHER DATA INVOLVING

OFFICER SHOOTINGS AND COP INVOLVE SHOOTINGS CONTINUE

TO BE A PROBLEM IN THE UNITED STATES.

IT IS NOT A BLACK AND WHITE ISSUE.

IN THE LAST YEAR THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF SHOOTINGS

INVOLVING POLICE OFFICIALS.

WHAT IS MORE TROUBLESOME IS WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE NUMBER OF

PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIED BECAUSE THEY WERE HOLDING TOY GUNS

OR REPLICA GUNS.

THIS IS NOT MEANT TO DEMONIZE COPS.

THE REALITY IS A LOT OF THESE GUNS LOOK LIKE ñ TOYS, LOOK LIKE

REAL GUNS AND COPS FEEL TERRIBLE AFTER THE SHOOTING HAPPENS.

ACCORDING TO THE DATA THAT THE WASHINGTON POST GATHERED ñ

THERE WERE A LOT OF DIFFERENT SCENARIOS.

IT'S HARD TO PINPOINT WHETHER OR NOT THIS WAS A RIGHT OR

WRONG SITUATION.

TO BREAK DOWN THE NUMBERS EVEN FURTHER ABOUT 53 WERE BB OR

PELLET GUNS, 16 WERE AIRSOFT GUNS, AND 13 WERE REPLICAS.

THE MOST INTERESTING PART OF THE STORY IS THAT YES, THESE

NONLETHAL WEAPONS LOOK VERY REALISTIC SO WHY WOULDN'T

WE PASS SOME SORT OF REGULATION TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE

VERY CLEARLY MARKED AND NO COP IS EVER CONFUSED ABOUT

WHETHER IT IS REAL.

APPARENTLY POLITICIANS HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DEAL WITH THE

SITUATION.

MIRACULOUSLY THE NRA'S AGAINST THE SITUATION.

>> I HAVE A THEORY.

THE NRA DOESN'T THINK GUN VIOLENCE

IS A BUG.

A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE TOY GUNS ARE KIDS.

MAYBE THERE'S ANOTHER REASON, BUT MY THEORY IS YOU CAN

TRACE ANY NRA POSITION, THEY ARE MAINLY FUNDED BY GUN

MANUFACTURERS DONATING TO THE NRA.

SO EVERY POSITION THEY HOLD IS TO THE BENEFIT OF GUN

MANUFACTURERS.

IN THIS CASE THE MORE THAT PEOPLE HERE IN THE NEWS

SOMEONE GOT SHOT, I NEED A GUN TO PROTECT MYSELF.

>> THAT ENVIRONMENT OF PARANOIA CERTAINLY LEADS PEOPLE TO

WANT TO GO OUT AND PURCHASE GUNS.

I UNDERSTAND THAT STRATEGY, BUT AT THE SAME TIME YOU HAVE

INNOCENT PEOPLE, AND SOME CASES MENTALLY DISTURBED PEOPLE,

PLAYING WITH A TOY GUN OR USING A REPLICA GUN.

IT LEADS TO CONFUSION.

I WAS READING ABOUT A STORY INVOLVING ONE COP WHO

ACCIDENTALLY ñ NOT ACCIDENTALLY, HE SHOT AND KILLED A YOUNG

MAN WHO HAD A REPLICA GUN.

AFTER IT HAPPENED AND HE REALIZED IT WASN'T REAL,

THE COP FELT HORRIBLE.

YOU CAN'T BLAME HIM, HE HAD NO IDEA.

IT WAS AN A TAMIR RICE SITUATION WHERE HE SHOWED UP AND SHOT

THE GUY

AND TWO SECONDS.

>> SOMEONE TOLD ME A GREAT POINT ABOUT HOW HUMANS ARE BUILT.

IT WAS VERY OPTIMISTIC.

NO ONE GETS PTSD FROM DOING SOMETHING DECENT OR HUGGING

SOMEONE.

YOU GET IT FROM DOING THE WRONG THING.

WE ARE HARDWIRED TO THINK KILLING SOMEONE ELSE IS THE

WRONG THING.

SOME PEOPLE GOT PTSD FROM BEING IN BATTLE, AND SOME GET IT

FROM KILLING SOMEONE.

EVEN IF IT WAS JUSTIFIED.

WE ARE NOT BUILT FOR THAT.

LET'S BE A LITTLE BIT MORE DECENT TO EACH OTHER.

IN THIS CASE IT IS KIND OF A LAYUP.

FAIR IS FAIR, WHEN I WAS A KID I HAD A LOT OF TOY GUNS.

BUT I AM NOT GOING TO LET MY SON HAVE A GUN, THE REASON IS

IT IS DIFFERENT TIMES.

IN THIS COUNTRY, YOU DON'T WANT ANY MISUNDERSTANDINGS.

IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.

86 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS ALONE THOUGHT IT IS AMAZING.

BY THE WAY THE MAJORITY, WHITE MALES, BUT THE COUNTRY IS

MORE WHITE OF COURSE.

THERE IS NOT AS MUCH DISCRIMINATION THERE IN A

DISPROPORTIONATE WAY AS WE HAVE SEEN IN OTHER STORIES.

SO THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE.

THE ISSUE IS WE HAVE COPS COMING IN, EVERYONE HAS GUNS, THAT

LOOKS LIKE A GUN, AND SOMETIMES WHEN SOMEONE IS MENTALLY

ILL THEY DON'T LISTEN TO ORDERS, AND AFTER A WHILE IF THEY

TURN AROUND AND POINT THE GUN THEY SHOOT HIM.

ONE WAY TO AVOID THAT IS TO MAKE TOY GUNS ñ

AND IN OTHER CASES SHOW A LITTLE BIT MORE RESTRAINT.

TAMIR RICE, SHOT IN TWO SECONDS.

HE WAS A 12-YEAR-OLD

BLACK KID IN CLEVELAND AT A PARK PLAYING WITH A TOY GUN.

THE OTHER THING YOU CAN DO IS JUST GIVE IT A SECOND.

LIKE IN THE CASE OF TAMIR RICE, JUST ASK HIM IF IT IS A TOY

GUN, HE WOULD'VE TOLD YOU.

>>I WANT TO BE CLEAR ABOUT SOMETHING, 86 CASES OF

PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T HAVE REAL GUNS GETTING SHOT AND KILLED BY COPS.

BASED ON THE DESCRIPTION OF THE STORIES I READ, THEY WERE

NOT CASES LIKE THAT.

THEY KEPT REPEATEDLY ASKING THE PERSON TO DROP THE GUN,

COMPLY, THEY WOULDN'T, AND THEN THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE IN

IMMINENT HARM WHICH IS WHY THEY FIRED THEIR WEAPON.

>>EVERY CASE IS DIFFERENT.

THAT IS WHY WE HAVE TO ATTACK IT FROM BOTH SIDES.

How To Wear Men's Boots 101 - 5 Best Boot Styles: Chukka, Chelsea, Jodhpur, Balmoral & Winter Boots - Duration: 9:47.

Welcome back to the Gentleman's Gazette!

Today's video, we discuss how to wear men's boots and what styles to buy.

In another video, we discussed the first two men's boots every man should buy but today,

we're going to dig deeper and figure out who boots are for, who they're not for, and what

you should look for.

Unfortunately, there's not one boot that works for everybody because we all have different

needs and preferences.

First up, let's talk about the chukka boot or desert boot.

It got its name from the polo field where one time slot is called chukka or chukker.

So, who's the chukka boot for?

Ideally, it's a great boot for students because it pairs with a lot of outfits so if you don't

have much money, you can invest in one pair of boots and it works with a lot of combinations.

It's also a fantastic boot for men who like to wear denim or jeans because it pairs really

well.

You can pin roll your jeans and to learn how to do that, please watch this video.

It's a boot that pairs well with corduroys when it's cold outside during fall/winter,

or with khakis when it's warmer outside.

It's also great for men who like a soft boot because the leather is usually unlined and

extremely comfortable.

Since these boots are much shorter than others, you can see your socks and it pays to have

some interesting combinations to just upgrade your outfit especially when you pin roll jeans.

For a selection of socks that look fantastic with chukka boots, please click here.

Overall, it's a boot that can be dressed down with all kinds of casual wear and even with

a not so formal suit or combination, it looks stunning.

So what colors should you go for?

If it's your very first boot, I suggest you go with a dark brown, a choco brown, or a

mid brown because it's most versatile.

If you already have boots in those colors in your closet, suggest you go with something

lighter which is sand because it underlines the casual character of the boot and it just

gives you more versatility.

Who's this boot not for?

If you wear a lot of suits, it's not the boot for you because it's very suited to casual

outfits.

Also, if you like formal wear, be it a stroller suit or a morning wear or tuxedos, not the

right boot for you.

It's not great for the colder times of the year because it's unlined and it doesn't insulate

very well.

To learn more about chukka boots, please check out our full-fledged guide here to get tips

about what to buy, the history, and anything else you want to know about this wonderful

boot.

Next up are Jodhpur boots.

Personally, I like them a lot because they have a very clean, elegant silhouette yet,

they have some history.

The characteristic of Jodhpurs is the buckle and it goes around.

There are lots of variations of it.

Originally, it comes from horseback riding and Indian heritage just like many other menswear

garments and boots or shoes.

To learn more about that, please check out our full-fledged guide here.

So, who's the Jodhpur boot for?

I think it works really well with casual suits, flannel suits, and sport coat combinations.

You can also pair it with a leather jacket or jeans, or chinos.

Because there's no broguing and it's a flat boot, you can also pair them with a regular

suit.

It's great for men who like clean, classic, elegant lines and you don't just want to buy

a boot anybody else has.

So what color should you go for with a Jodhpur boot?

Ideally, a mid brown or something lighter, maybe tan, works best and it's most versatile.

So who is this boot not for?

If you're in a hurry and you don't have the time to buckle the boot every time and take

it off, it's not a boot you should go for.

Otherwise, it's a great boot to have in your collection.

Next up are Chelsea boots.

Chelsea boots have become a timeless classic because they have that insert and it's easily

recognizable especially if you have a colored insert just like here.

You guessed it, if you want to learn more about this boot, please check out our full-fledged

guide here.

So who are the Chelsea boots for?

They're perfect for men who look for a convenient, easy slip on version of the boot.

Even though they're quick to put on, they are super elegant and classy and don't look

sloppy at all.

They're also great for eccetnrics because you can add green, red, or blue inserts that

really give you a personal note.

They're also great for men who want their very first boot that is quite versatile that

can be worn with suits or casually and you can adapt it to your needs based on if you

need a cap-toe or not, broguing or not, and so you can find exactly what you need.

In what color and what style should you get a Chelsea boot?

Well, that depends a little bit on what you already have.

If it's your very first boot, I suggest you go with something darker, maybe dark brown,

or chocolate brown.

You can have some broguing like a medallion, with a cap toe is good because it's not too

casual and not too formal but can be paired with a lot of things.

If you like to wear suits int he evening, you may consider black Chelsea boots.

If you already have a few boots in your closet, you can consider getting a little more out

there and having maybe a suede Chelsea boot in brown, tan, burgundy, or even blue.

So who are the Chelsea boos not for?

Actually, I believe every man should have at least one Chelsea boot in their wardrobe

because they are so timeless, versatile, and easy to use.

Next up is the balmoral boot.

It's a classic dress boot that works well with formal outfits and of course, we have

an in-depth guide here.

So, who is the balmoral boot for?

It's basically the choice of elegant gentlemen who want something like an oxford shoe as

a boot version.

It's a fantastic boot if you have lots of formal outfits in charcoal, navy, and grey.

It's also fantastic with three-piece suits or you can wear it with a morning coat, or

with a stroller suit.

If you live in a moderate climate, it's a perfect boot for winter because it's warm

enough and always very elegant.

So, what colors should you go with?

I suggest you start with black with black suede insert.

If you are more advanced, you can have a contrasting insert in beige or buff or off-white and if

you have that, you can move on to something in brown, burgundy, or other colors.

It's a great alternative for a button boot especially if you're not quite sure about

the whole buttoning process and it's a little more subdued.

So, who is it not for?

It's not for people who like country outfits, who like to wear tweed, chinos, browns, and

corduroys because it's just too formal for those kinds of outfits.

Luckily, there are lots of other options.

Next up, let's talk about men's winter boots.

If you live in a climate where it gets close to freezing outside, you need winter boots.

They may just look like regular boots but they have a wonderful fur lining.

With fur, I usually mean sheepskin or lamb skin.

It's quite plush and insulating and cozy warm especially if you're outside a lot when it

gets cold.

Of course, there's lots of ugly boots in polyester but as an elegant gentleman who wears a suit,

those kind of boots would ruin your entire outfit.

For added traction, those boots should always have a rubber sole.

Obviously, they come in different styles.

If you are more of a casual guy, get them in tan, if you're more into suits, you should

go with this version that's kind of a balmoral, it's just like an oxford but with the fur

lining that keeps you warm.

Who is it for?

It's for every man who likes warm feet and does not want to sacrifice style.

So who is it not for?

Winter boots are a high budget item and they are much harder to find so if you live in

warmer climates or you're never outside for longer than 5 minutes, you can skip them otherwise,

I strongly suggest you invest in one of them.

To learn what boot we recommend specifically, please check out our in-depth guide here as

well as the others I mentioned before.

No matter what boots you buy, one item that you should invest in is a shoe horn.

What you can see here is actually a real buffalo horn.

For boots, it's more important than for shoes because it's much taller.

So if you go in without a shoe horn, you'll damage the shoe and it'll wear out much more

quickly.

That being said, most boots would only come with black or brown shoelaces.

While that works, it doesn't give you much versatility.

That's why we offer more than a dozen different boot laces in different colors because with

investment of a few bucks, you can change the entire look of your shoe and your outfit.

This comes particularly handy when you're just starting out and you have enough money

for one boot. if you invest in five or six different pairs of laces, it creates a different

look and people may think you have a different boot even though it's the same just with different

shoelaces.

You can get our boot laces here and our shoe horns here.

We offer them in three sizes, long like this one, medium, and travel size.

Now, these are just five basic men's boots that I think should be the first five every

man should invest in.

Once you have those, there are a lot more boots out there including button boots.

We'll cover all of those in another video.

So stay tuned!

Is Austin The Best Place To Live In Texas - Duration: 5:33.

Is Austin the best place to live in Texas Oh man, it feels like yesterday when I first

came here.

Wow, I still remember my first trip out here, back in 1999.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up moving here.

And (snap fingers) just like that 2 years later, I was here.

14 years now.

I have really fallen in love with this place.

#Austin North I live in North Austin now out in the suburbs

away from the crowded downtown area, however, I would definitely prefer to live down there,

but the housing prices down there just make it out of reach.

I moved out here from good old sunny California.

Every now and then I get a little home sick, but it's no big deal.

You get used to it.

Yeah!

I have family out there, and that just gives me an excuse to take a little time off and

go visit.

#cost of living Austin TX Honestly!

The cost of living in Austin is really what drove me to move out here.

It is definitely a lot cheaper than California by far, but, we've also experienced real

estate prices going up.

When I first moved out here in 2001 you could get a nice little house, about 1,900 square

feet for about $130,000.

That house now would be worth over $200,000 still a lot less than a house the same size

in California.

According to the local MLS the median price for Austin is about $295,000.

After all Austin has become one of the best places to live in texas.

I'm not sure if in fact Austin is the best place to live in Texas, but it is definitely

getting there.

#Why is Austin TX so popular?

Living in Austin has definitely been an experience.

I really like the people, the cool vibe, and of course all the different events we have

throughout the year, you know, like South by southwest, Austin city limits and all the

other outdoor things we get to do.

Like kayaking at the lake, riding bikes around town lake

#How many people living in Texas?

The texas population is growing by leaps and bounds, just in the last couple of years it

has grown to almost 30 million.

Austin alone has grown to over 2 million people.

We're just getting more people from California than any other state.

#What is it like to live in texas?

Every time I get this question, I just laugh.

It reminds me of when I first moved out here and all my old friends and family from California

always asked if there were cowboys and horses on the street.

The fact is Austin is just like any other Metropolitan city.

If you don't already know this, Austin is the State Capital of Texas.

It is also known as the Home to the Texas Longhorns, (AKA UT Longhorns).

More so lately, it has also become more popular around the world because of the recent addition

of the now famous Circuit of the Americas (F1 raceway).

#Moving to Austin If you are considering moving to Austin, you

should come out and visit.

You'll really like it out here.

Find out about the typical weather and so on.

According to weather reports, Austin averages about 16 days when the temperature might reach

100 degrees or more, typically from June to September.

Mostly at least 90 degrees during most summer months.

And from October to about April the temperature typically never goes lower than 40 degrees.

Except lately, we just had some bizarre weather in the low 20s, which is very rare in this

neck of the woods.

#Celebrities who live in Austin Yeah, we have some celebrities too!

You know, people like Lance Armstrong (former professional cyclist)

Sandra Bullock (actress) Dabney Coleman (actor)

Ethan Hawk (Actor) Matthew McConoaughey (actor)

Owen Wilson (actor) Robert Rodriguez (film director)

Ask Better Questions - Duration: 4:52.

This is Melanie Fine founder of RocketGirls.com,

where we help young women break science's glass ceiling to rock it in their dream career.

"My mother made me a scientist without ever intending to.

Every other Jewish mother in Brooklyn would ask her child after school: So?

Did you learn anything today?

But not my mother.

'Izzy,' she would say, 'did you ask a good question today?'

That difference - asking good questions - made me become a scientist."

- Isador Rabi, Nobel Prize Winning Physicist

Curiosity is the first and most important quality of a Rocket Girl.

Curious people want to find out "Why."

Rocket Girls, like all good scientists, never stop asking questions.

In fact, they build their entire professional lives around it.

Andrew Maynard, Ph.D. in physics from Cambridge University and Director of the University

of Michigan Risk Science Center, described his childhood curiosity to me: "There already

was that propensity to be interested in how things work.

But what I found was fairly early on, I was just fascinated by how things operated, how

things worked, whether it was electrical stuff, whether it was stuff out in nature, I was

just interested in it.

I spent a lot of time before I did any serious science at school, just learning about the

natural world, and I was one of these kids that you could go out for a walk and I could

tell you the name for every plant you saw, or every sort of insect ... I was fascinated

by it, I pored over books and I then tried to connect what I read in books to what I

found outside.

So I think there was probably that inherent curiosity there.

Just wanted to know stuff."

What do you want to know?

Questions are as important as answers; and at times, even more so.

After all, the best questions command the best answers.

In this era of high-stakes testing in the public schools, we have become so focused

on students supplying the "right" answers, at the expense of teaching them to ask better

questions.

David Stork, Research Scientist and Research Director at Rambus Labs, has talked about

the crucial role asking questions played in the success of Bell Labs in New Jersey - the

birthplace of the laser, microchips and the transistor, and one of the shining stars of

science long before anyone had ever heard of Silicon Valley.

When Bell Labs' leaders tried to analyze the company's success, they explored what their

best people had in common, according to Stork.

"Did they all go to the best schools, did they all study one field versus another?

There was no commonality among these."

What they did find out was that their highest producing scientists and engineers regularly

had lunch with electronics engineer Harry Nyquist.

"So what did Harry Nyquist do for these top producing scientists?" asks Stork.

"He didn't give them answers.

Or great ideas.

Rather, he asked good questions.

And his good questions got them thinking."

Stork's advice: "If you want to think the unthinkable, ask a good question.

Questions are the best way of going from what we know to what we don't know."

In his book Originals, Adam Grant questions the trusted leadership adage, "Don't bring

me problems.

Bring me solutions."

He argues that a culture requiring every problem to be prematurely outfitted with a solution,

dampens the inquiry process.

Not every question has an answer... yet.

And sometimes, the cost of rushing in with answers is too dear.

It was too dear for the seven crew members of the Columbia Shuttle, which disintegrated

upon re-entry to earth's atmosphere on February 1, 2003.

Organizational psychologist David Hofmann, tasked with assessing NASA's safety culture,

believes that if the ground crew asked more questions about the mysterious piece of foam

that fell from the shuttle during take-off, they may have been able to diagnose the hole

in its left wing in time to repair it and the shuttle and its crew may have been saved.

Rather, NASA, by brushing it off as something minor they had seen before, squelched the

inquiry process before it even began.

As a teacher, I don't show up with answers.

Just more questions.

If we need to find answers, we will figure them out together.

Problem identification comes first; problem solving second.

Leonard Susskind, Stanford physicist known as the "Father of String Theory" tells us

that

"The object of a scientist is to follow his curiosity and figure out how and why things

work, how and why the world works whether it's physics or biology."

Children are born curious.

Though many of us lose touch with our curiosity while still young, scientists manage to retain

their curiosity even as they grow older.

What do you want to know?

Go out and find the answers.

If you're lucky, the answers will bring with it many more questions.
