Gov't unveils plan to support 100 vital tech development by 2025 - Duration: 2:01.

Korea has unveiled a comprehensive plan to support at least one-hundred vital technologies

that are crucial for the country to better prepare itself for the so-called "Fourth Industrial

Revolution" and beef up competitiveness in the global stage.

Our science and tech correspondent Kim Ji-yeon reports.

The government says it will systematically support the development of some one-hundred

technologies by 2025 considered vital in the so-called "Fourth Industrial Revolution."

The plan unveiled by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Monday, includes the

development of materials and components necessary for the commercialization of the fifth generation

of LTE internet connectivity used among the general public... including the development

of 5G telecommunications modems.

Other tech development under the plan includes the development of navigation equipment for

aircraft, high-strength aluminum, lithium batteries with high energy density and bio-ceramic

materials for dental implants.

To help the plan become reality, the ministry says it will reform its infrastructure support

system, which is currently divided into 15 sections to be reshuffled into five main sectors

of automobile and machinery, ceramic and electronics, fiber, chemicals and metals.

It adds that it will provide support in all of the tech developmental stages ranging from

research and development, infrastructure building, and manufacturing, to exports... instead of

the current method of providing support when obstacles occur.

The ministry also says it will increase the number of smart factories from the current

26-hundred plants to 10-thousand by 2020.

It will also support the development of eco-friendly technology including the development of refrigerants

that don't harm the ozone layer by reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the air.

Korean gov't to continue corporate restructuring drive in 2017 - Duration: 1:52.

Aggressive corporate restructuring drive is expected to continue into next year in this

country.

Seoul's finance chief today vowed to establish a strict evaluation system for the four key

industries currently subject to the initiative and extend its application to other sectors

as well.

Lee Jiwon has more.

Korea's finance minister says the country will continue its corporate restructuring

drive next year.

Speaking at a meeting with related ministers on Monday,...

Minister Yoo Il-ho said the government will review action plans to strengthen four key

industries -- namely shipbuilding, shipping, steel and petrochemical -- and lay out the

specifics of what needs to be done in 2017.

He also emphasized the importance of the corporate restructuring drive and said the government

will establish a system where ailing firms will be selected through a strict evaluation.

"We will continue our momentum for corporate restructuring next year,... for the future

of our economy.

We will also review the potential risks for major industries such as construction... and

provide preemptive measures when needed."

The effects of the drive are already evident,... according to a report on Korea's three shipbuilders

released Monday.

Hyundai Heavy Industries has already managed to raise more than a third of the 2-point-9

billion U.S. dollars needed to fund its rescue plan... by selling its assets and laying off

employees.

Samsung Heavy Industries also managed to raise almost half of its 1-point-2 billion-dollar

rescue plan,... while Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering sold two of its floating

docks and reduced its employees by 8-thousand.

However, the three shipbuilders showed disappointing numbers in terms of secured orders due to

low demand in the industry overall.

You Gonna Fail? It Can Depend on How You Use Natural and Given Talents and Gifts Improving Success - Duration: 4:08.

Hey there.

Talking about natural, God given talents and people given talents.

If you are on a road to reinvent, learn from others.

God given talents, look at people like professional athletes – LeBron James – he is going

a road in which he is taking advantage of his natural talents.

What is he, 6'5", 6'6", 250+ pounds?

Knows how to shoot a basketball.

Knows how to lead men.

Knows how to lead a team.

Can play really well.

He has aligned his talents, natural talents, with where he wants to go and he has used

the resources around him to be the best of the best.

Take advantage of that.

If you are reinventing, align your natural talents with the direction that you're going,

your experience and your natural talents.

Otherwise, you will probably fail, but you will definitely get frustrated as heck.

It's like pushing water upstream.

But, today, I want to talk more about people offered talents.

If you know people that are where you want to be, use them.

Ask them if they will be mentor or a coach.

If they will give you tips or be a sounding board.

But use people around you.

If you get help offered to you, coaching tips or recommendations, even if it doesn't fit

with where you are now, at least respond.

Let them know, thank you.

If you can use it, do it.

You never know what you're missing if you don't accept and hear people out.

A couple of things happen, and I've been on both ends of this.

Sometimes I have asked for help or had people offer help and I've been too busy for whatever

reason and never responded.

The end result, down the road when I needed their help, do you think they were overly

excited about helping me?

I've also offered help over the years.

I'll give you a good example.

I had a classmate of mine that I found out had an accident.

They own their own business and had medical expenses and long-time recovery, therefore

they couldn't earn money.

I went to a GoFundMe page to try to help with the idea and the promise, once I get back

on my feet, I'll pay everybody back.

Instead of doing that, I knew that they had talents and experience that I could use.

So, I reached out and asked, "Can I contract with you to help me and it could grow into

other contracts and give you even more money?"

Guess what, I never got a response.

So, how do you think that set with me?

I was not that overly excited about going to a GoFundMe page when it could be a win/win

and grow into even more money.

So, realize that you may get gifts that are offered to you and are dangled in front of

you and never know, if you don't accept, they could be taken away.

Two things happen with that.

You not only lose that opportunity, but you will probably get doors slammed that are closed

forever.

[Door slams] That's pretty good.

So, my point is; take advantage of what's out there, use what's good for you and realize

if you're reinventing have faith in yourself that you can succeed.

But, also understand that this may be the most difficult thing you've ever done.

Stack the deck in your favor, use the resources around you, be receptive to learn from others.

Finally, it's progress and production and outcomes that are important.

Don't worry about polish and perfection.

Obviously, that was pretty corny, but pretty cool.

"We Have Another Offer" | How to Negotiate Against Other Real Estate Offers To Purchase - Duration: 3:37.

How's it going everyone?

Matt Leighton, welcome back to another video.

In this video, we're going to be talking about how to negotiate against another offer that

you may not know of was there in the first place.

We'll get into that in a second.

I'm here in Arlington, Virginia.

I have Courthouse in the back, set up on the bike trail.

Hopefully a little off the bike trail so people can still move by me.

Let's talk about negotiating.

And this is for when you submit an offer and you ask the agent, "hey do you have any other

offers?"

and they say 'No'.

And then a certain time period passes.

Maybe it's two hours, maybe it's two days and all of a sudden, there's another offer.

It's come out of the blue.

So how does that work out?

Well I think you have a couple different options to take.

And your mindset, if you have a jaded, sort of cynical mindset...that I think everything

around you will sort of turn into cynical and jaded as well.

So if you think that they are making up another offer, then in your mind, that will actually

occur and you will think there is no other offer.

And the way it comes down to it is like, 99% of real estate agents are ethical and follow

the rules.

There's always that 1% that will bend the truth if that's even a thing...aka lie and

be unethical.

In my mind, I just always assume there's going to be another offer even if they say "No other

offers" so when they come back and say 'Oh yeah we just have this offer we pulled out

of thin air."

I already know that that's coming.

So in that scenario, I think you have three main options.

The first is you can completely ignore it.

You can assume another offer is already coming.

There's already going to be another offer and you can present your offer and the strengths

of your offer will be there if there was no offers or if there were 5 offers.

So the first thing you can do is ignore it.

You can assume it's coming and ignore it.

The second thing you can do is revise your offer and submit your best-and-final offer.

This one is kind of tricky because when you're submitting your initial offer, it's probably

a pretty competitive offer.

And then they say, "Oh yeah, we have another offer, that's a really good offer."

First of all, if they have another offer that's really good, why don't they just take that

other offer?

That's maybe for another video.

So the second option is to revise your initial offer to a best-and-final offer to avoid any

bidding wars.

And you kind of submit and say, "hey, this is our best-and-final.

Take it or leave it.

We'd love to work with you if not, we're going to walk away."

This one is tricky because let's say they do want to work with you and they come back

and counter your offer.

Now what has happened?

You've submitted your initial offer.

Then you've negotiated against yourself.

Something you never want to do.

Then they've come back and countered a third time.

So now the seller has the upper hand.

Even though they do want to work with you because they are countering with you, kinda

be weary about that second decision.

And then the third decision I think you have is really go for it and submit an escalation

clause.

If you don't know what an escalation clause is or how to use one.

I'll put a little link here so you can check out a video on the escalation clause.

And this is a scenario where you pretty much put your cap.

It's kind of like eBay in a sense where you're willing to bid the highest, but your inital

offer is the lowest.

Another offer has to be there to bid up your offer.

And this is kind of like a bidding war.

I don't even like using that term because you've already told the sellers what you're

willing to pay and they can only take that offer of what you're willing to pay, if there's

another competiting offer that is as high as your escalation clause.

So, when you're submitting an offer...and there's no other offer, then all of a sudden

the listing agent says, "Oh yeah, we have 5 other offers, do you want to try again?"

I think you have a couple avenues to take.

You can ignore.

You can submit your best-and-final.

And then you can do the escalation clause.

It's been four years since Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe snatched the power back

for his Liberal Democratic Party and since then he's garnered solid support from the

Japanese public as its head of government.

Four years of Shinzo Abe as Japanese prime minister - how did it impact Korea-Japan relations...

and how does the future of the bilateral ties look in the years to come?

Our Hwang Ho-jun takes an in-depth.

Four years into his second stint as Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe has now become

the fourth-longest serving prime minister in postwar Japan.

And Abe's administration has steadily solidified its grip on power through successive wins

in national elections.

Last year, he was unchallenged in his bid for a second three-year term as party chief,

paving the way for him to run for another term through 2021.

According to polls by Kyodo News, the approval rating for Abe's cabinet reached 60 percent

last month... and prior to that were mostly steady above 40 percent.

Experts say Abe's level of support means he doesn't need to invoke nationalism by provocatively

bringing up historical and territoritorial issues related to Korea, which have always

strained ties between the two countries.

Rather, experts say the two countries' agreement on help for the Korean victims of Japan's

wartime sex slavery... and a landmark military information-sharing deal that took effect

last month... show Tokyo's desire for a closer relationship with Seoul, and Abe isn't likely

to change that position.

So, as for whether that relationship remains steady,... they say the ball is in Korea's

court.

"So a lot of it is going to hinge on who the next president for South Korea's going to

be and what kind of Japan policy they're going to have."

And on Abe's moves last year toward revising the country's pacifist Constitution, that's

something the experts say other countries can do little about... because it's an internal

matter concerning Japan and its sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Abe is set to meet with U.S President Barack Obama in Hawaii on Tuesday, local time,

and together they will pay tribute to the victims of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor

75 years ago,... to reciprocate Obama's visit to Hiroshima last May... and to show the world

that U.S.-Japan ties stand strong.

Koreans give back to community with donations of talent - Duration: 3:55.

It's the end of the year... and don't we all know that 'tis the time of giving.

Well, philanthropy isn't just about giving money or volunteering; it can also be giving

of a talent that you can offer for a charitable cause.

And, remember the traditional definition of philanthropy - Love of humankind in the form

of time, talent and treasure.

Different ways to give -our news feature tonight with Lee Unshin.

There's not much out of the ordinary at this subway station in Seoul.

On the train, most people are busy browsing through their smartphones.

But in one corner, a lady is busy knitting hats.

"I'm always knitting when I'm on the subway."

For more than a decade, Kim Jung-soon has been doing volunteer work at a global charity

center.

For the project she's working on, people knit bonnets for babies in regions of Africa and

Asia,... so they can stay warm at night, when temperatures drop sharply.

But none of the other volunteers have the knitting skills that Mrs. Kim does.

"People send in the hats they knitted, but before we send them to babies around the world,

I check to see if they need touching up.

Some are too small, some have a hole in them, or the knot on them can be too loose, so I

make sure they are just right."

Her commitment and her gift for knitting and garment repairing plays an important role

at the center, to say the least.

"Over the past ten years, Koreans have donated over one-and-a-half million hand-made bonnets.

But no one is as skilled or dedicated enough to do the work she does."

"What Kim does here goes beyond conventional volunteer work.

She's engaged in talent sharing, which allows people with expertise in certain areas to

contribute their talents to society."

In Korea, an alternative way of serving the community is making use of one's talents or

skills for charitable causes, in what has come to be known as 'talent donation.'

Here at a community center for senior citizens, many look forward to the second and fourth

Wednesday of each month, as they look to get a new hairdo from Lee Hyung-bok.

But Lee, known as "the Scissorhands", didn't become a barber for a living.

"I've been cutting my own hair for 30 years, but to cut someone else's hair, even if it's

for free, you need to be a certified hairstylist.

So I studied, took the test and got the license."

With his approved expertise, Lee now gives trims to senior citizens who can't afford

to go to the barbershop that often.

"I used to wait months to get a haircut because I needed to save money.

I'm so thankful for his service."

Among thousands of registered local volunteer organizations and groups, the number of those

that require specific expertise such as beauty care, education or consulting has been on

the rise since 2011.

And the number of people sharing their skills in a wide variety of fields, including performing

arts and housing maintenance, is only expected to expand, for a number of reasons.

"The common reason for not doing volunteer or charity work is that some people believe

they don't have enough time or money to do it.

But with talent sharing, that can't be an excuse.

Anyone can share their special talent with society."

It's just like Lee said: "Why not do something that you're good at and love doing to help

others?"

"It makes me feel good, that's it.

I suppose only those who have given to the community like myself know what I'm talking

about.

I love that I can be helpful through the things I love to do."

But it seems like heavy snow is underway for the eastern regions.

For more on the weather updates, let's go over to Lee Jee-hyun at the weather center.

Jee-hyun, how much snow are we taking about and give us a weather outlook for the last

week of this year.

Sure.

The mountainous regions in North Gyeongsang-do and Gangwon-do Provinces are under a heavy

snow advisory since this afternoon with up to 30 centimeters of snowfall expected over

night.

In the meantime, rain will turn into snow in central parts of the country tonight.

But other than Gangwon-do Province and Dokdo Island, snow will let up by early tomorrow

morning.

But expect snowy and icy roads tomorrow morning and a big drop in temperatures.

Seoul will have a morning low of minus 3 degrees Celsius.

And afternoon highs won't be any warmer, with Seoul barely reaching 1 degree while Daejeon

will see a high of 3 degrees Celsius.

Cold air will freeze much of the nation throughout the week, so prepare your warmest coats for

year-end gatherings.

But by the time we start the countdown to the new year on the weekend, readings will

ease with a fair amount of sunshine.

Choi Soon-sil denies most allegations against her, but said she's ready for life imprisonment - Duration: 2:45.

Our starting point tonight: a special in-jail parliamentary hearing.

Members of a bipartisan parliamentary committee investigating the power abuse scandal that

led to the parliament's impeachment vote against President Park Geun-hye... took a trip to

a detention center in Seoul to question a longtime friend of Park who's at the heart

of this massive scandal.

Why and what did they get out of her?

Park Jiwon explains.

The session was held behind closed doors for two and half hours,... and only eight of the

18 panel members were allowed in.

During the meeting, Choi apologized for the confusion she caused to the nation... but

denied most of the allegations against her.

The chair of the special committee panel said Choi hardly answered to any questions faithfully.

:YTN "Choi Soon-sil said she is very much sick

due to depression and cardiac disorders, and the panel had much difficulty in progressing

the session, as she hardly gave any sincere answer."

The panel of lawmakers said she denied most allegations, and said she does not know other

key figures involved in the scandal,... such as former senior presidential secretary Woo

Byung-woo and former presidential chief of staff Kim Ki-choon.

Lawmakers also said that Choi said she's prepared for life imprisonment.

They added Choi became very sensitive when she was asked about her daughter's issue.

Choi's lawyer issued a statement that the session violates the court's decision that

her client is not allowed to see anyone but him until mid-January.

to Choi,.. saying President Park trusted Choi a lot, and they two held frequent discussions

on diverse matters.

Former senior presidential secretary for policy coordination Ahn Jong-beom said he just followed

President Park's instructions... in regards to allegations that two government-linked

foundations, the Mir and K-Sports Foundations,... forced big corporations to pay hundreds of

millions of dollars in donations.

Constitutional Court to begin trial next week after wrapping up preparatory hearings this week - Duration: 2:02.

That's the criminal case probe into those involved in the corruption scandal...

On the impeachment motion against President Park Geun-hye that is currently under review

at the Constitutional Court of Korea...

The top court is set to hold a preparatory hearing tomorrow - the second of its kind

- with the possibility of another before launching the actual trial next week.

Our Song Ji-sun gives us a heads up on what's to come.

The Constitutional Court said it will wrap up a round of preparatory hearings for the

impeachment motion against President Park Geun-hye this week... before opening the trial

proceedings next week.

At a preparatory hearing scheduled for Tuesday, the second one so far, the court will examine

evidence and determine whether another preparatory hearing is necessary before the trial begins.

During the first preparatory hearing last Thursday,... the court asked the president

to submit a thorough account of her whereabouts during the seven hours she was out of the

public eye on the day of the Sewol-ho ferry disaster two years ago.

The also asked for a list of her activities -- both official and private -- including

any reports she received and directions she gave.

The presidential office and her attorneys are busy fulfilling that request,... but it

is unclear whether they will be able to submit the documents by Tuesday.

The prosecution also submitted its investigation records to the Constitutional Court, as per

the court's request.

The president's attorneys had argued that it wasn't permissible for the court to request

documents related to an ongoing investigation, but the court dismissed their appeal.

And in a bid to expedite the deliberation process, which could last up to six months,...

the court... at the first hearing... sorted the 13 charges against the president in the

impeachment motion... into five categories -- from breach of right to life, to abuse

of authority.
