DRDO's Top Secret Projects
4.
KALI
India has a secret weapon called the KALI, a lethal defence weapon that can cripple enemy
weaponry.
The name KALI stands for Kilo Ampere Linear Injector and is a linear electron accelerator
being developed in India.
One important thing to note is that the missile is not a laser weapon.
It works in such a way that if an enemy missile is launched in the direction of India, it
will quickly emit powerful pulses of Relativistic Electrons Beams (REB) and destroy the target
in no time.
According to scientists, the KALI is a much more effective weapon compared to a laser
weapon because a laser weapon will bore holes to destroy other missiles, which will take
time.
The KALI completely destroys missiles and satellites, but without drilling holes, which
is much faster.
The technology used in KALI, which is basically a particle accelerator, could also power other
weapons in the future such as in a High-Power Microwave gun which will destroy the the electronic
circuitry on other missiles.
But this could take time.
Being a beam weapon, the KALI can disable and also shatter any enemy weapon or satellite.
The Chinese have even seen the KALI as a threat (but hey, this is a self defence weapon).
The KALI has been developed by the Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO) and
the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

E-bomb
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing an E-bomb which will
emit electromagnetic shock waves that destroy electronic circuits and communication networks
of enemy forces So next time there is a Kargil or a LoC violation,
you may not hear gunshots or mortar shells, because the electromagnetic bomb will throw
life out of gear"It will be a weapon that would explore the strong electromagnetic field
generating a brief but intense or high power pulse of electromagnetic energy," E-bombs
would form the core of tactical warfare and electronic combat operations to damage the
command, control and communications of enemy forces.
The electromagnetic shock wave from the bomb will destroy electronic circuits and communication
network "while paralyzing them in terms of radars, communication networking, information
gathering sensors, controls and other electronic equipment."
Work is in full swing at the Research Centre Imarat, the Hyderabad-based laboratory of
DRDO, to build the new bomb which will be ready for operational deployment within a
few years.
2.
AURA
AURA is an autonomous unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV).
The ADA describes the AURA as a "self-defending high-speed reconnaissance UAV with weapon
firing capability".The project is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation
for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.
The design work on the UCAV is to be carried out by Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA).
The UCAV will be capable of releasing missiles, bombs and precision-guided munitions.
The programme is in its project definition stage.
The design is in line with what former DRDO chief controller for Aeronautics said in 2007,
that India's combat drone would be a stealthy flying-wing concept aircraft with internal
weapons bay and a turbofan engine. The UCAV's design is similar to Northrop Grumman's B-2
Spirit.

K-4 Missile
India is all set to test fire its longest range secret undersea missile, code named
K-4, which is capable of delivering nuclear warhead at 3,500 km away.
The test is planned to be conducted from a submerged platform in the Bay of Bengal.
A defence scientist said this manoeuvrable missile having an innovative system of interlacing
in three dimensions can also cruise at hypersonic speed.
This exceptional feature of the weapon system makes it difficult to be tracked easily and
destroyed by any anti-ballistic missile defence systems.
The missile has a high accuracy of near-zero circular error probable.
The intermediate range submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) is about 12 metres
tall with a diameter of 1.3 metres.
It weighs around 17 tonnes and can carry a warhead weighing upto 2,000 kg.
The missile is powered by solid rocket propellant.
