What's up?
Greetings 'Jana's Friends'
What's new with you? I hope you're all doing well
a lot of you are always asking me about Britain and the Universities here
and you'd love to come study here
the city of Edinburgh in Scotland
invited me to visit the city
and visit its Universities
Edinburgh has 4 universities
on the first day, I visited two of them
at Heriot-Watt University
I met some Saudi students that were completing their PhD's
if you're thinking of studying engineering
there's all kinds of engineering courses at this university
Civil engineering, chemical engineering
mechanical engineering
if you like physics, or if you want to study petroleum engineering
I really want to press this button
Heriot-Watt is a campus university
so all the buildings you need are on one huge plot of land
So the halls, the classrooms, the library
and the restaurants
and the gym, everything is there in the space
their fitness centre
was the most incredible one I've ever seen
you can probably see it from a satellite in space
they have the biggest indoor football pitch in the whole of Europe
and then, they took me to the room with the robot
the robot
they sat me infront of a robot
kid, a kid robot
and the robot spoke to me
like I sat in front of him, and he looked at me, into my eyes
and spoke to me
when I move, it follows me
one of the universities' biggest advantages
is that because they have such a vast space, there's so many facilities and services for the students
depending on what you want to study
they have all the facilities you need on campus
after we finished up at Heriot-Watt
we went to the second university
okay now we're at...
at Edinburgh Napier University
they're going to show us the design students' exhibition
I saw this lamp
I really liked
it has shelves so you can put your books
that you're reading, around the lamp itself
we've entered a room
I'm not sure what it is exactly
but we can listen to stuff
this is the architecture students' work
could you imagine making this?
it would be impossible
this guy is called
John Napier
the university is named after him
there's a section of the building that was his house
this is his house, John Napier
they built this whole university building
around the building, it's awesome
okay we just got in a cab to the university's second location
this is their building
they teach nursing
in a really incredible way
okay so this room
looks exactly like a hospital
so they can teach students
how to treat the patients
this is a sick patient
poor guy, look at him
I don't know if you can see but
his chest is moving, so it looks like he's breathing
you can feel his pulse if you put your fingers here
this thing can cry
and sweat
so they can teach students how to take care of patients in the hospital
of course these aren't real patients
they use this dummy to teach students
how to help a woman who's giving birth
the teachers watch from behind the glass to see if the students are doing it right
they can even make the dummy cry if they get something wrong
it's really awesome that you can learn something with this much detail
if you saw this room, it looks exactly like a real hospital
so it's awesome that they're teaching them with this level of detail
this is the room the teachers watch from
and then here
I don't know if you can see it or not
see how it looks like there's a baby there?
this is the same baby
that was birthed from this dummy
they've put him right here
it's moving!
this room
looks exactly like someone's house
but it's not a house, we're still at the university
and the point is that they teach the students
how to treat patients who are living at home
if someone is elderly, or sick and living at home
so they have this thing
so they allow the students to feel exactly how the patient is feeling
when they're at home and unwell
so they're going to make me try it
I'm trying to move my hair away from my face but I can't reach it
I'm wearing these glasses that make me not see properly
and then these are weights
so it's hard for me to move my arms
and then I'm also wearing these headphones
they're playing a really annoying noise
that as people get older, they start to hear
the experiment is for me to try to
be wearing all of this stuff while I get in and out of bed
they gave me this crutch to help me out
how am I supposed to lie down with scoliosis?
and then we went into the A&E simulation room
look at this poor guy
what happened to him?
and they made me put make up on the dummies
so I can make it look like it's injured
at the end of the night, they took me to a restaurant called Badger & Co
I'm not exaggerating, all of the food I ate at Edinburgh
is so so unbelievably delicious
okay we're doing with the first day
on the second day, we visited the last two universities
the first university we saw is called Queen Margaret University
the amount of students in this university
is less than the other universities we saw
so if you like a calmer atmosphere
and for everything you need to be in one building
without getting lost in a huge space
you'd like this university
We're now at Queen Margaret University
they're showing us around the whole campus
it looks awesome so far
we're going to take a look into the departments that they specialise in
they're going to show us the work they do here
look how many computers they have
this university is considered a campus uni
so all of the buildings you need are in one space
but there's a train that takes you to the town centre in 6 minutes
this is the accommodation
and this is the university itself
so as you can see, it's really close by, you can wake up and go to your class straight away
there's something really awesome they do at this university
if you live on campus and you've just arrived
and you don't know anyone
they organise events to help people get to know each other
so you can make friends with people and not be all on your own
this is of course great if you're Saudi students
and you don't know anyone in the whole country of Scotland
this is old technology
that they used to use to help people who have difficulty hearing
this department is really really awesome
they teach people who have speech impediments
especially young children who are still learning to speak
so now they're going to use a machine show me how my tongue moves
with my throat, while I'm trying to pronounce words and letters
this is the ultrasound machine
it's going to show how my tongue moves
when I talk
so in this room, they help companies test food out to see what people prefer
with these tests, they can figure out how to change the recipe for something
for example, to reduce sugar or salt
so the food is healthier but the taste doesn't change
okay now we're tasting types of jam
and we have to choose what we think is the most delicious
this was my favourite, and it turned out to be the most delicious
you can see the beach
at the end of this line
the last thing they showed us
were some films made by students who studied here
they were incredible, I'll give you a link in the description
so if you like film
this university is great for it
and finally, we visited The University of Edinburgh
The University of Edinburgh is the 6th oldest university in the English speaking world
the university is made up of several buildings scattered around the city centre
okay we've arrived at The University of Edinburgh
check out how old this building is
this was opened in 1583
the art and design courses at The University of Edinburgh are extremely strong
as we were walking through the buildings
it was impossible not to know that you were in the art department
because I visited the uni at the end of the school year
they were showing the students' final projects
my favourite thing at the exhibition
was one of the students' projects on the pound
the pound is the currency in Britain
one pound is a coin about this size
and they say one in every... I think it was 13 pound, is counterfeit
it's not real
so the student put 13 pound coins next to each other
and one of them was made of gold
so the fake pound was actually more valuable than the real pound
this is the former medical school building
if you were to study health and nursing at here
you'd be in this awesome building
okay we just saw the art exhibition and now we're going to the main library
parts of The University of Edinburgh are based in the city centre
so if you study here you may be in the city centre
the last thing we saw at The University Edinburgh
was the art collection that was stored underground in the library's basement
this was incredibly amazing
they have 2,500 pieces they collected over 400 years
in all of the universities in Britain, there's something called a student union
I don't know if there's something similar outside of Britain or if it's called something different
if you translated student union it would be 'itihad al-tulab'
this is basically an organisation that is concerned with the lives of the students
it's separate from the university
it's responsibilities are to look after students and student life outside of studying
The University of Edinburgh has the oldest purpose-built Student Union
oh, and while we were walking around the university
we found a mosque right in the heart of the city
and just like that, we've been through all of Edinburgh's universities
the same night, I had dinner at a restaurant called The Printing Press
I ate some delicious seafood, like I said
the food in Edinburgh is excellent
the third and final day in Edinburgh was a tour of the city itself
today, we've gone up to Edinburgh Castle
here's the castle
these are the castle's guards
there's one there
and one here
the castle is built on a hill called Castle Rock
it's been around for a thousand years, and royal families have lived in it until 1633
there's a museum in the castle itself
these were the kings of Scotland
okay, we left the castle and we're now at a museum
it's called Camera Obscura
these are all mirrors
they reflect forever
okay so in this room you can move these little things
and there's cameras in the city itself
so you can observe the city from these cameras
you can watch people
and then I went to a couple of restaurants for lunch and dinner
the first restaurant I went to is called George IV
I ate fish and chips
it's a really popular dish in Britain
it's fried fish with some potato chips
I really really love fish and chips
and the food was amazing as usual
the last restaurant I went to is called Stramash
it was quite unusual, the building itself was extremely old
and there was a band playing rock music in the evening
everyone was enjoying themselves
but for me, the best part was the pizza I ate
I think it's the first time I've finished a whole pizza on my own
it probably made me put on weight
if you ever wanted to visit Edinburgh University
I'd highly recommend the hotel DoubleTree by Hilton
it's location is incredible, the hotel is very nice
and I had a perfect view of Edinburgh Castle
there was also something called CityCabs
which is an app that you can order taxis from
it's also something very useful to use if you ever visit
and that's it! we've reached the end of the video, don't forget to give it a like and subscribe
I honestly love filming useful videos for you guys
so if there are other things you want to learn about in Britain
let me know in the comments
and that's it, thank you Jana's Friends, I'll see you soon
