You know what's funny? People think that Mormons believe America is the best country in
the world.. And it is. I'm just kidding. Luxemberg, obviously. I'm more of a
fan of... Finland? hmm now, Malaysia? hmm... Sri Lanka. okay number one we've decided that
Sri Lanka is the number one country on three Mormons. Yes.
So something really cool about our faith- I feel like we always start the show like that
Thats true, me, so something really cool gonna cool yo kick flip- mormons- koolaid
go-gurt ball-in-a-cup, um, etch a sketch, paperbland Sega I don't know
what we're saying. You know way more like something really cool
about our beliefs is that America is a promised land. Yeah we believe that
America was set apart for a greater purpose. Yes yeah and what was that
purpose? It's gonna sound really selfish thing you know but for the restoration
of the gospel. One of the reasons America- Well I think there's also a
timeline that leads up to that, right? Well let's talk about that time let's
see what we got here. So honestly the new world was found and there's lots of
controversy and whoa, controversial controversial
controversy around the discovering of the new world- many people died in the
American Revolution Christopher Colombus. So the Book of Mormon actually
prophesies this land being reserved for liberty and freedom really really cool
In 3rd Nephi 21:4
how cool is that
that's so cool! So, Jesus... Jesus. Amen brother! Anyway, so in the Book of Mormon
in 3rd Nephi That's where we get the idea that America was
prepared as a land of freedom so that the restoration could take place. oh yes
because it's interesting to think about the restoration really couldn't have
taken in place anyplace else because in Europe they had a lot of these state
religions they were taking religion and the government
and they were putting it together and you couldn't have the gospel come forth in
that way because theocracy is crushed. well for example the Holy Roman Empire
was actually, people were like is it Roman or as a German or is it Catholic? and
they are all like super confused on what the Empire actually is, and you know the
Catholic Church people believe that the Pope was inspired and that when he gave
legislation that when he ruled it was the Word of God and so they were this
like you said, like a geography state yeah and so also in the Book of Mormon
it says that this land will not be ruled by kings- no- this will be a free land
yeah and so that's also amazing because that just says that this land will be
ruled by the people, that the religious freedom will be governed by the people
you have to have religious freedom for the gospel to come to fruition because
if you don't you have corrupt men just just toiling down and trying to
take away your religious freedom and that would always hurt the gospel. so one
of the cool things is that if we do have the truth we have to allow other religions
to also practice the way they may and then we'll also see how Heavenly Father
can do good in those religions to slowly bring people to the truth. We also have
to understand that if the church was to be restored here that means there needed
to be founding fathers for this great land- oh yeah- so we believe that the
Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were inspired documents of
God. Yes, definitely. Let's talk about that a
little bit because most people honestly don't have an opinion about that but
you'd see a lot of people would say I definitely believe there's something
holy or something definitely true about- or sacred- yes- If you've ever been
to Washington DC and you go to the archives
you kind of read the Declaration of Independence and you're like, this was
written by middle-aged men, like it's completely different than
if there's something about it that's absolutely beautiful because it is
inspired. I have this personal belief that the Constitution is something to be
more fulfilled that we have to actively fulfill so it's not like the
Constitution was written and America was perfect, more like we're inspired and
everything's beautiful, it's more so almost like the Scriptures were: here it
is, follow it. Make this come true, you know that's that's kind of the way
I view the Constitution and if we all live by that America would be so
much better off. I think its that same idea if you live your life by the scriptures you will
always have a prosperous life. The Book of Mormon says those that live in this land
as long as they are keeping the commandments they will be blessed and they will
be prosperous if you don't live in the United States I don't want you to think
Mormonism is just for America? oh no no no no God chose this line to restore the
gospel. The gospel is going out everywhere, a matter of fact the
Constitution inspired many nations to be free to revolt against
tyranny. This is simply the piece of land that they chose to do it. All right,
so the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints was restored or
re-established on the American continent so that it could go forth to all nations,
kindred's, tongues, and people's. This isn't a religion just for Americans. No, it's a
religion for all of the children of God. So sometimes on the 4th of July
I'm like, well thank goodness for these founding fathers because that means that my friends in
other places of the world can also have the gospel of Jesus Christ, and also feel
of the same blessings that I feel on this continent. We're also not
trying to propose now that America is better... like we're not
putting forth like a strange national- yeah we're trying to promote
globalization so that everyone should be American- & you really believe that China
needs to go away, Russia needs to go away, and we just kind
of establish this Uncle Sam propaganda per se and if you're an American you
love we don't believe any event. Oh no. We believe that all nations, if you
follow the commandments of God will be blessed. And that's the beautiful thing
about the Book of Mormon. Even if you don't believe in the Book of Mormon, you
don't believe that Nephi was really, any of that, you can still take a
lesson out of it, that if you follow the commandments of the Lord, your nation
will be blessed. But if the people begin to falter and fall into wickedness, those
blessings will be revoked, and what happens when you'll have the blessings
of the Lord, Satan comes in and he goes to work. -takes a poop on you- yeah and I
think I think personally this isn't doctrine but I think in my opinion I
don't think Satan, anyway like just my personal opinion I think you can look at
history and you can see when America was not fulfilling its constitutional
promise and you can see how the Lord was upset. One perfect example: the Civil War
when you're trampling on rights, people are in bondage, God isn't happy and what
did he do? He took the Latter day Saints, placed them in what was Mexico at the
time and just went boom. In my humble opinion the 4th of July, which I don't
even think we've said on this whole entire episode, which is about the 4th of July
oh yeah 4th of July- I think the fourth of July it should be a holiday that you
know celebrates common values yeah that celebrates people coming together to
fight against tyranny to fight against Satan honestly.
Freedom and truth will always prevail over wickedness and
bondage and that's a really beautiful message of the Book of Mormon and let's
talk about the founding fathers for one second, can we? You know whether you
like them or not the founding fathers risked their lives, and they fought
what should have been an unwinnable battle honestly, but the Lord was on their
side. Great Britain was the superpower of the time logically if you if you look at
the history it is physically impossible that we should have won.
That's another testament to why these men were inspired to do it at the
time that they did. Yeah, whether even some of them knew they're inspired or
not, some of them did, let's let's look right here it's the quote by James
Madison. 'We have staked the whole future of American civilization not upon
the power of the government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our
political institution upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern
ourselves according to the ten commandments of God.' This is great, he is
talking about agency. We can govern ourselves according to the ten
commandments of God which was given by God, and so the idea of governing
ourselves and holding ourselves accountable to raise up a free nation
it's really important! It's very important. You can look, and we're not
name-dropping any country, but you can look where you have theocracy in freedom
stricken lands and it's bad. That's not what Heavenly Father wants. He does not
want that. He wants Liberty, He wants freedom, He wants people to have agency,
to be able to choose what religion they want for themselves because that's the
best way the spirit gets to you. Not by force, but by your own personal
action and agency. Yeah I'd also go to say that we could use James Madison as a
perfect example of what we should be doing on the 4th of July. We should be
aware of ourselves, aware of where we are in regards to the world, what are we
doing, what is our foreign relation, what are the policies that are
happening at home and abroad, and how can we be a voice to lift
up a nation of freedom, and not a voice that is a voice
of tyranny. So something really really cool I say look at the fourth of
July not in a lens of like, 'Murica!' strange, almost bizarre idolatrous, like
"look how great America is" let's look at it as the victory of of agency and
freedom triumphing over tyranny. In a sense it is the victory that allowed the
gospel to come to fruition so let's thank God on the 4th of July. Also I want
to say one other cool- so, in the temple we have something called endowments,
we're not going to go into what that is but it's a really cool thing, right, and I
got endowed at the St. George temple because in the st. George temple Wilford
Woodruff the fourth president of the church had a vision in the St. George
temple in which the founding fathers and other remarkable men appeared before him
and said look we helped lay the groundwork for the restoration of the
gospel we want you to do our temple work for us. Now the Lord allowed them to do
that, how cool is that. Now this is probably one of the most obscure strange
things in church history, but how beautiful is it knowing that those who
fight for liberty are going to be blessed, you know. Even though some of the
actions of the founding fathers were questionable I think the Lord still
loves them they're still children of God and they did a great thing and that's
one of my favorite parts of church history is that beautiful vision knowing
that the fight for liberty and the fight for freedom is always important. My favorite
part of church history is when Brigham Young had a beard. All right. And the
most important part
of American history is the fact that Three Mormons airs right
