Hi everyone!
This is Rina and today I'm bringing you a new tablet review!
I'll be reviewing Gaomon M106K
If you're interested in this brand or the tablet model keep watching to know my opinion about it ~
Here's the box, with Gaomon's silver logo ♥
On the back there's a lot of the tablet specifications printed.
But let's move to the inside, there lies what we really are looking for ^w^
Right after opening it we find the tablet with a card that reminds you in many languages
where can we download the drivers.
Let's lift this and see what's beneath
Oooh, we've got a few things here ~
There's the pen, and a small bag?
A small bag... Oh!
There's extra nibs inside! And a replacement ring as well.
A short User Guide...
And... the cables are hiding in here
Don't be wary because nothing is perfectly wrapped and nicely stored
I just had to record this twice because the first time the video had really bad quality x'D
that's why I don't have the wrapping and stuff anymore >w<
Let's see everything in detail
First is the pen
It's very light and it has a nice smooth texture
There's only one thing that caught my attention. It turns out to be exactly the same pen as the one I tried on the Huion last time
Even the font they use for the brand it's the same
I guess Huion and Gaomon must share manufacturer or something the like...
Here's the bag.
And the 4 extra nibs and replacement ring that came inside of it.
Lastly the cords
This is the pen's charger
and yeah, this is a rechargeable pen too.
And this is the one we'll use to connect the tablet to our computer.
Both are USB cords.
How about a close-up for the tablet now?
As you see it comes with 12 buttons we can use to customize our shortcuts
And I believe these numbers are another type of shortcuts as well
There's 16 of them, so in total we have 28 available shortcuts
And here's kind of a clothe pocket thing (?
You can use this to save the pen so it won't disappear on your desk when you're not using it.
Okay so let's install it
You can download the drivers from Gaomon's website
Just go to the Support tab and then Driver Download
We'll then find a list with the user guides and drivers for each of the products they have
I believe ours is right at the end
There!
As you can see there's MAC and Windows drivers
However I am only able to show you how it will perform on Windows
So a RAR file will be downloaded and there's where we can extract the folder of the drivers
By the way, the picture you see on my desk is a illustration my friend MiriamDott did for me
in case you were wondering xD
Proceeding with the installation I noticed something really curious
In some of the driver's data there was the name of the Huion company
Sadly, I don't know why but this detail didn't show up on the recording >_<
But I think now it's obvious these 2 companies share manufacturer or technic team or something the like
as it seems the drivers are almost the same.
I don't know if this is good or bad xD but I thought I should mention it anyway
Okay, it's installed
Let's connect the tablet to the computer and open the settings
On this tab we've got all the settings related to the pen
We can customize it's buttons with the shortcuts of our preference
Also remember that this pen doesn't have an eraser on the back
as that's the spot we'll use to charge it
Right at the top we can change the pressure of the pen by moving this bar to one side or another.
On the Work Area tab we can see a preview of the proportions of our screen and the tablet
Always remember to use the Screen Ratio option
specially if the proportions of your tablet and screen are not the same.
This way the lines you draw will be more similar to the original movement of your hand.
It may not seem like it but this tablet is also for left-handed users.
You just have to rotate the tablet and check the 180º option here.
You can even use it vertically if you check the other options ~
On this last tab we can finally customize the shortcuts for the buttons and soft keys
With that said, let's make some quick tests on different programs to see if the pressure is recognized.
First is SAI
Straight lines...
Curves
Quick lines
From really low pressure to high pressure
and viceversa...
Soft brushes seem to work well too
It can mix colors perfectly too.
Now let's try Clip Studio
Curves
Straight lines
Quick lines
Different pressure...
Soft brushes...
Everything seems to work.
Lastly let's go to Phosothop
Curves...
Quick lines...
Uhm... there seems to be a very small delay?
It's very subtle tho, I'm not sure if it's a thing of the tablet, or maybe that my Photoshop is too full of things,
or maybe the computer is feeling a bit stupid today
I don't think it's a big deal anyway, it's a very very subtle delay
Let's try with softer brushes
You can see that, just like the Huion, this pen doesn't have have tilt recognition.
It doesn't matter if it's placed perpendicular or almost parallel to the tablet
So if you're a Photoshop user and you really need this function
then I would not recommend you this tablet.
Okay, well now let's go to the interesting part!
I'm going to make a doodle of one of my characters
This time is Erin's turn ♥
Truth is, even if the drivers are supposed to be almost the same as Huion
I'd say the Gaomon's pressure is better?
If you remember my previous review I complained a bit about the activation force on the Huion being a bit too high for my taste
This Gaomon doesn't have the same low force level as the Cintiq 13 that I usually use
but it's not as high as the Huion I tried last time
If you didn't understand a thing, this means that I don't have to press the pen as hard for it to start drawing a line
not as has as the Huion I mean.
I still think the activation force is even lighter on the Wacom's I've used in the past
but this Gaomon is pretty near to their level.
Let's talk about the pressure
If I remember correctly this one has 2048 pressure levels.
Same as the Huion I last tried and the Cintiq that I currently use.
Again I think it's really near the level of the Cintiq.
I think it has really nice sensitivity
and since you can even adjust it on the settings we saw before
I think it's really adaptable to anyone's needs
Funny thing, when Gaomon contacted me to make this review
they told me their drivers work better on SAI 2
But so far I haven't stumbled any problems on this one
no lag, no pressure going crazy or anything strange
Sometimes the buttons of the pen were a bit hard to press
but I wouldn't consider it a really bad thing, it was a very subtle detail
and maybe it's only this pen they sent me.
Talking more about the pen
don't be disappointed because it's rechargeable
I charged it for an hour or so before starting to work with it
and I didn't have any problem with it
in fact, my sister has used it a lot too
and we didn't have to charge it again yet
so rest assured it will not die after a couple of hours.
It's a medium size tablet
Its measurements are 35x24 cm (13x9 inch aprox.)
and the working area is around 25x15 cm (10x6 inch. aprox)
A bit smaller than an A4 paper.
It costs around 60-70 euros, and probably the same amount in dollars
A Wacom Intuos medium has the same measurements aproximately,
the same pressure levels
but it already sells for around 250 euros/dollars, depending on the shop.
The surface has a nice texture, it's pretty smooth
maybe it's not exactly the same but it's pretty near to the paper-like texture typical on the Wacom tablets.
It doesn't feel like you're drawing over cheap plastic at all.
And... I don't think I've got much more to say. Truth is there's barely nothing bad to say about it.
I honestly think it's a really good table with a super economic price
I'd recommend it from begginers who just started digital art
to professionals as well
I really like its size, and the pressure is really good
Plus it's very light and portable, and since it's not huge
you can easily fit it anywhere.
I think that's all for today's review.
If you're interest in the Gaomon M106K
I'll leave you all the links to their shop and social media on the description box.
They also have smaller tablets
and they even have a monitor too (or more commonly known as screen tablets).
I hope you find this video useful, and see you next time!
Bye bye! ♥
