Hello and welcome once again to the Whole Counsel
Devotional.
While during the week we are going through Genesis verse by verse, on the weekend we
do things a little bit differently.
Today, I'd like to read Psalm 1 and leave you with a thought.
Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of
sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its
season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation
of the righteous.
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
We are told here that a blessed man delights in God's law and meditates on it day and night.
All success: fruitfulness, abundance, and prosperity derives from this truth.
In this day and age, it's easy to have our mind on so many other things.
Digital media of one kind or another is in front of us all the time, and so much of it
is ungodly, sinful, and scornful.
From the internet to movies to music, sin is so often celebrated.
Lucifer, a show about the devil leaving Hell for Los Angeles, is one of the top rated TV
shows on IMDB and liked by 95% of Google users who rated it.
Jesus tells us that our treasure is to be found where our heart is.
The average American works 47 hours a week and watches a further 33 hours of television
while many of us only allot 45 minutes to an hour a week for God and get bored and restless
if church goes a few minutes long.
Is our passion focused on the things of this world or is it in meditating on God's law?
Father, I pray that you would give us a greater desire for Your word.
Help us to be passionate about Your law so that we can be healthy and well-watered, receiving
Your blessings so that we can be a blessing to others.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
The LORD bless you and keep you, the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious
to you, the LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
