Hey everyone today. I'm going to be doing a June TBR. It's been a very long time
since I've done a TBR, but June is the month of pride so I really want to read
all lgbtqia+ books in the month of June. All queer books. So let's get started, I
have a lot of books on this tbr. I have 11 that I already own. One that I'm borrowing
from work, two arcs, and two books that are coming out in the month of June that
I don't yet have that are all my TBR. So it's a very very long one. First I have
The Seafarers Kiss by Julia Ember. I've heard amazing things about this. This is
one of my most anticipated books of the year. It is a retelling of the Little
Mermaid where the little mermaid falls in love with a Viking shield maiden, so it's
an F/F retelling of Little Mermaid. I'm so excited for this. It's also pretty short.
Shorter than I expected, but I'm kind of happy about that
since I have so many books on this TBR. 10 Things I Can See From Here by Carrie
Mac. This is a YA contemporary about a girl with anxiety who after her mom gets
a new job or something - for whatever reason she moves in with her dad and that
brings a lot of anxiety into her life, but she also meets a girl. I'm just really
excited for a F/F story for a girl with anxiety because that's pretty much me. Next is Proxy by
Alex London. This is a book that's been on my wish list since I joined booktube.
It is a dystopian sci-fi book. I think it's a dystopian YA book. It's set in
this world where the wealthiest families they have a proxy so every time one of
these people gets in trouble their proxy takes their punishment instead. So this is
about a boy named Knox who is born into one of the wealthiest families. He has a
proxy named, Sid, and so every time Knox does something wrong SId gets
the blame and gets the punishment for it. I'm assuming it's a romance between
those two characters cuz I do know it is an m/m book series. I think it's a duology. I'm
really excited for it. I've heard good things when people have talked about it
but it's not one I hear about a whole lot, especially in recent years. But I'm
super excited to finally get to this one. Then I have Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez.
This is another one that I've been meaning to read for years. I feel like it
is a classic LGBT book within YA literature. I heard about it so many
times. I'm not exactly sure of the plot but it's about a group
friends, of guy friends who are either crushing on each other or the most
popular boy in school. I'm not really sure but super excited for it as well.
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. This is an adult
fiction book and honestly I don't know a whole lot about the plot except that it
has an f/f romance I think. I think that it's like classic lesbian literature as well.
And I believe it's a woman telling her story to like another woman at some cafe.
I think. I don't know but I'm gonna finally read it and find out. Queer, There,
and Everywhere: 23 people Who Changed the World by Sarah Prager. This is another
book that was on my most anticipated books for the year. It is YA
nonfiction. It's about 23 people, obviously, who changed the world. I'm pretty
sure all 23 people are queer in some way. I'm really excited to finally have this
as well. I'm sorry I keep saying excited but I think this one that I'm going to
read like about a person in between each book that I read throughout the month.
Lies My Girlfriend Told Me by Julie Anne Peters. Julie Anne Peters wrote the first
queer book I ever read which was, Keeping You a Secret? Keeping Her a Secret?
Keeping You a Secret, I think. Anyways this is one that she's had out for a few
years and I've always meant to read and I haven't yet,
so I'm gonna read it. It's about a girl who her girlfriend dies and then after
her girlfriend dies she finds out her girlfriend was cheating on her so I
think her and the girl she was being cheated on with form a relationship
of some sort. I don't know if it's actually a romance or not. I'm interested.
The Female Man by Joanna Russ. This one is adult sci-fi fantasy about
parallel worlds, about a woman who somehow, I don't know, comes in contact
with all her parallel world selfs. I'm not exactly sure but it was on somebody's
video for their favorite trans fiction. So yeah. I've only heard about it that
one time so hopefully it's good. I'm gonna try to look up some reviews for
this as well. Love in the Time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block. I've read
other books by her and I wasn't the biggest fan but this is another one that
a lot of people recommend in YA queer fiction, so I'm going to give
it a shot and see if I like it. It's pretty short and it's got pretty big
font so I don't think it will take me that long.
I believe the love interest in here is a trans man if i am correct. And i've heard
it's like one of the better like sex scenes with a trans character in it. I
think it's this book that I am remembering. Adaptation by
Malinda Lo. Malinda Lo has written like my favorite queer book of all time,
which is Ash a queer retelling of Cinderella.
This one is dystopian I believe, in a duology and I think it has something to
do with like the government and secrets and such. And I know our main character
is bisexual and I've just been meaning for such a long time to read other books
by Malinda Lo so I'm a super duper, really really excited to read this.
Lastly for the books I already own is Pantomime by Laura Lam. This is one I've
also been meaning to read for years, and I almost bought it a couple of years ago.
It had a different cover at that point and then I found out they were going to do
a cover change and then she was going to finally release the third book in the
trilogy. But it's been a while for the cover changes to come in effect
especially in a physical copy. But I finally have it. I'm so excited.
I believe our main character is intersex and trans and bisexual. I'm really
excited. It also has to do with the Circus which I will read anything that has to do with
the circus. Next is the book I'm borrowing from work and that is, It's Not
Like it's a Secret by - the front, first name is not on here. Misa Sugiura?
Sugiura? Sorry. I should have looked that up beforehand. So the reason I'm borrowing
this from work is this was one I was super excited about, it's about a girl who
who's been in love with her best friend for a while and then she meets another
girl who is Mexican and they form a relationship. But before this came out it
was revealed that there was a lot of racism towards Mexican people in it so I
wasn't sure if I was going to read it. I've heard since it came out that it
sounds like those issues were addressed but I did want to read it and I wanted
to see if they were really addressed for myself. And because I work at a bookstore
and I'm able to borrow books from the bookstore, which is why I don't have the
cover for it, I can read this book without supporting it financially. So
that I can see for myself without providing support for the book and then
that way if it isn't good I will have not provided this money
and if it is better than expected, if it it is good, they address those issues
then I can decide to buy it later and give it my support. So yes. I am nervous
for this but also still excited. Moving on to the books that come out at this
month that I plan to read. The first one is Tash Hearts
Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbee. I've already pre-ordered this. I got the email
yesterday saying that my pre order has shipped. As of today it is Friday, it's
coming out Tuesday, in like four days. However many days it is. Oh, or is it
Thursday? It's Thursday today, sorry. It's Thursday. It comes out Tuesday in like
four or five days, so I'm hoping since my order has already shipped it will be
here on the day it's release. Possibly even a day earlier. That would be really
exciting. Anyways this is about a girl who runs a video series that is a modern
adaptation of Anna Karenina. So it's kind of like the Lizzie Bennet Diaries, and
she's also asexual. And it's kind of sort of own voices for asexual rep. I know
the author herself doesn't really consider it own since she's not the exact
orientation of asexuality. I think she's demisexual and biromantic whereas this
character is asexual and heteroromantic. I'm still really excited. I've heard
really amazing things about it. I need it. The book is Down Among the Sticks and
Bones by Seanan McGuire. This is the sequel to Every Heart a Doorway, which
also has really great asexual rep if you were looking for that. This one has a
character from the first book. And it's kind of actually a prequel, but it has a
character from the first book who is lesbian I believe, from what I remember of
the first book, but I'm not entirely sure about that so don't quote me on that. But
I'm still really excited. I've also heard it has a lot to do with gender roles and
I'm just really really excited. Especially because the characters it's
following from the first book were my favorite characters from that book. So now
we get a whole book about them makes me really happy.
Moving on to the two arcs I want to read in the month of June. This is a really
ambitious TBR I know. But the first one is Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller.
This is a YA fantasy novel about a character named Sal, and they are genderfluid. They are also a pickpocket and a thief, and they decide to enter into a
competition to become the queens assassin. This sounds similar to Throne
of Glass, although you know Throne of Glass kind of veered away from that
assassin plot after the first book. But it sounds similar to that, but better and
has better representation and diversity in it. I've heard once again amazing
things on Twitter from people who have already read this book. I'm really really
really excited for this one. It comes out in September I believe and I just kind
of have been waiting until closer to September to read my arc but I think
June is finally close enough that I'm going to read this arc. And my last arc, last
book for my June tbr is Ida by Alison Evans. This actually did
release in January of this year. but I have a e-arc from netgalley that I
want to read. So I'm gonna get - I'm gonna - I'm gonna read it this month. It is about
a girl who is, once again, able to somehow travel, connect to the alternate versions
of herself in parallel universes. I'm a sucker for anything that has to do with
parallel universes. One of my favorite plot line, tropes in books ever so I'm
really excited to read this. But anyways our main character is
biracial and bisexual I believe, and the love interest, who also has a point of view,
is genderfluid I think or non-binary. They're non-binary. I've heard amazing
things about this. It's not super popular though but it sounds really good and I
would like it to be more popular. Those are all the books I'm hoping to read in
June. I know I can read this many books in a month. I've done it before but it
hasn't been something I've been doing this year or even really last year. My
reading has kind of gone down but I know I can do it. It's summer, it's bright and
sunny outside. Hopefully I'll have some time off of work that I can read as much
as I want. So yeah. Let me know what's on your TBR for the month of June. Any of
these books? Are you excited for any of these? You should be. I'd love to know. I'll
see you guys next time. Bye.
