So you can keep your bag... or take this envelope.

- Envelope, I want the envelope.
WAYNE: She wants the envelope.
What's in the bag?
WAYNE: Oh, that's a trip.
JONATHAN: Yep.
It was a trip to the center of the earth.
WAYNE: You dodged a Zonk.
JONATHAN: You would have taken a death defying leap down

WAYNE: So too bad that wasn't a real trip.
- I know, but that's okay, that's okay.
Because I'm glad with my choice, I'm happy with my choice now.
WAYNE: What do you think this is?
- Hopefully a trip, not to the center of the earth.
WAYNE: Where would you like to go if it was a trip?
- Anywhere but California.
(laughter)
(cheers and applause)
WAYNE: Wow.
- Yeah.
WAYNE: Wow.
You've won a trip to Rockford, Illinois.

No, I'm sorry, you're not going to Rockford.

Mix Engineer Massimo Barbieri (X-Factor, Italia's Got Talent, Sky TV) with iLoud Micro Monitor - Duration: 1:52.
Hi, I'm Massimo Barbieri and my job is mixing the music and broadcast
of various shows, including the X-Factor, EPCC (which I'm working on right now),
Italia's Got Talent and so on.
My job mainly
aims to try to create the mix
most compatible with various listening systems that people use at home.
You switch from the case of flat screen TVs,
home theaters with a nice frequency response,
or sound bars and lately,
more and more often, computer speakers where people listen and follow the broadcasts via streaming.
For a long time I was looking for compact reference speakers to work alongside nearfields,
nd IK Multimedia has provided me with an excellent solution.
iLoud Micro Monitors are exceptional for quality and versatility.
They have crazy volume and "punch"
and even sensational frequency response for
this type of small speaker, going all the way down to 55 Hz.
The easy portability in their bag allows me to bring them home,
where maybe I finish the work I started here in the studio,
and I hear almost the same sound when I put them
on the sides of the screen of the laptop.
For this reason, from now on, for any production,
iLoud Micro Monitor will definitely be part of my set-up.

Korean Drama Review: Scarlet Heart Ryeo - Duration: 15:57.
Good morning, good afternoon and good night, my name is Racheliz Medina from Pijama Squad
And today I'm finally going to talk to you about Scarlet Heart: Ryeo
First of all, this drama aired from August 29 to November 1, 2016
When it first aired, I started watching it in September, around that time
but I dropped it, because of uni and work
So now that I have finally have some time left,
I picked up the drama where I left off and I finished it
And I was so shook!
I mean like that ending was
unpredictable!
and I want to discuss about theories later from the drama (for a second season)
So the plot in general for the drama is
that Hae Soo or Hae Jin, her real name from the present time
is a girl that in the first episode was really sad
It seemed that she broke up with her boyfriend
and then she goes to a near park, where it has a lake
and she meets this homeless guy
and she was telling him that life sucks and she was truly sad in that moment
So at the same time, she sees a kid drowning in the lake
She goes to rescue the kid
and while she tries to save him, he gets saved
but, then she is the one struggling to get to the surface
and while all of that is happening, the moon turns into an eclipse
So because of the eclipse, she seemed to have travelled back in time,
The drama is all about time travel, kind of science fiction
It takes her to the Goryeo era
that was the era where it was Taejo's reign, the first king we see in the series
and throughout the drama, she falls in love with
the 8th prince, and then her feelings shift
and she later falls in love with Wang So
And Wang So is the last king we see in the kdrama
So I'm going to start off talking about the cast
The protagonist is the 4th prince, who is played by Lee Joon Gi
Which most of us have known for, well at least for me
I saw him in the drama Arang and the Magistrate from 2012
and he co-stars with Shin Min Ah
you may know her from her drama, Oh my Venus
which was a recent work from her
And he also did Two Weeks,
which I think I started watching it when it aired
but it centered more on action
Lee Joon Gi is known for acting in crime/thriller dramas
I do see him more in those type of dramas
And there is IU, which plays Hae Soo
She recently acted in the drama, The Producers with Gong Hyo Jin and Kim Soo Hyun
Kim Soo Hyun right now is one of the hottest and top actors in South Korea
And well, IU's breakthrough role was in "Dream High"
She was part of the main cast
She played a girl that was a bit fat and
and she did a risky diet in where she struggled a lot from teenage struggles (insecurities)
And I believed she acted pretty well, a good role
In this drama, I truly believe it is one of her best roles yet
She really delivered, drama-wise, acting was on point
And in the end, it really got to my heart
About the other characters, they are
Kang Ha Neul, who plays the antagonist, Wang Wook aka the 8th prince
Hong Jong Hyun, who plays the one who takes the king's throne
who kills the Crown Prince and he becomes king
And the other main character is Nam Joo Hyuk's Baek Ah, who is the actor from Weighlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
which is the other video I'll film to discuss it later,
He was the third prince, the closest to Wang So
And he was the only one who supported him through everything, his journey, his struggles
So he basically is his right hand, when Wang So becomes king,
But because of the circumstances and the turn of events
everybody, including him, pulls back
and that was really sad
also, Baekhyun, which plays the 10th prince
Which I will discuss about that painful scene
And Ji Soo, who is the other prince that falls in love with Hae Soo towards the end of the drama
And I'm going to breakdown to discuss the scenes I chose that were the most important
Starting the breakdown, I wanted to discuss Hae Soo's sad fate
IU truly showed her full potential as a capable actress
I believe that one of the most important scenes from her was when she was tortured
Which she was framed and sentenced guilty for supposedly planning to poison the Crown Prince
but Wang So tried to protect her and takes the blame
but Hae Soo is left to suffer the consequences, it was one of the most important scenes
Another thing from the drama was the character Chae Ryung
She was Hae Soo's first friend in the Goryeo Era
And in the end, she was tricked into being a spy/traitor
but it was all because she loved one of the princes and we all make mistakes...
So I think, one the main lessons from the drama was that we all make mistakes because
because we all fall in love
Chae Ryung's death was devastating and truly sad
A scene that truly shocked me was Seohyun's Woo Hee
Soohyun is a singer from the girl group, Girl's Generation
Which probably you must have heard from before,
Well, she, in that scene was where she killed herself
but in the name of the land she was born
So she thought that to end all conflicts and troubles from the palace and her land
And her soulmate, which is Nam Joo Hyuk's Baek Ah
She thought that it was best to sacrifice herself and end all the trouble and conflict
So for me, it was a big shocker. A big plot twist.
Like, she was decided in marrying the 3rd prince
and everything, so I was like what the hell just happened
But she always, had as a priority her people, her land and her status
before anything else.
It was something of a "nice touch", even though it made me sad, because the drama
had so many unfortunate turn of events, and it led up to this painful twist
Another was the 10th prince's death.
Baekhyun was the actor who played the 10th prince from the kpop group, EXO.
He didn't really had much screentime.
Like at the beginning, he had a crush on Hae Soo and then, he was forced to be married with another princess.
She was the daughter of the warrior who was friends with Taejo (first king in the drama)
He is an amazing actor. I've seen him in a lot of dramas, I can't remember his name right now...
So the princess is Zhera.
Z-h-e-r-a
Never seen that actress before, but I believe she did amazingly well, hope to see her in more dramas
So the scene I wanted to go back to,
is when they are running away from the King Wang Jo
Which is the main villain of the drama, in my perspective
And this king decided to kill the 10th prince, because
apparently there were rumors of dethroning him and put the 10th prince in the throne
and when he got the news, the King decided to kill him off.
That scene was painful, not because he died, but how he had to die.
The 4th prince had to end it all himself. He had to kill his brother instead of the king
Because the king was going to kill the 10th prince with arrows, a slower way to die.
The princess was already murdered,
And it was a chaos,
How the 4th prince had to do that! He had to horribly end the 10th prince's life with his sword.
It was gruesome, because it was horrible to be the one to kill your own brother and end his misery
because your other, evil brother wanted to kill him slowly.
It was truly a strong scene, but very well acted.
I was, "Wow, what else could happen after this?"
And well, yeah I'll get into more of what happened.
For the last episodes, Hae Soo throughout the drama
At least, at the beginning, the drama had a sweet tone and atmosphere
So I truly thought the drama was going to have a light story
But after watching more, I was like... mmm
No, there were too many turn of events and they were too much
At the end, Hae Soo couldn't handle her life at the palace, she got sick
Even though, there were moments that the chemistry and romance [between the main characters]
In the end, you notice there weren't many scenes
because comparing other dramas, other concentrate on the build up of the budding romance
But in this one, it developed more the drama in the story, with Hae Soo had a purpose of being there
I think she had to time travel to help Wang So
be a better person
and for me, I think it was a different touch that really sparked my interest
because instead of focusing the drama in the romance
it really focused on the drama. In the 4th prince's struggle
and how Hae Soo came to be the person to help him become a better person
Not to let him become the past version of himself
or let his emotions dictate his decisions
and kill because of that, because before he returned to the palace
He used to be a violent person
He literally killed a lot of people, he was a violent and scary person
but he turned out to be like that, because of the things that happened to him in the past
which you can see in the drama, his mom didn't love him
he suffered from abandonment
and that is why I feel that Hae Soo had a purpose in his life
Not because she had to save him because of love, but because
She was a person who was there for him
Always.
So that brings me to the last episodes and the scenes I want to discuss
Where she decides to take off and instead of staying with him
She rejects everything from the palace life, and being his royal concubine
Not even being his official wife, because she couldn't
They explain it in the drama, why she couldn't marry
In the end, they just couldn't be officially together
And she quits that life and runs away with the other prince who is played by Ji Soo
Wang Jong
He falls in love with Hae Soo too
That was one of the funny things in the drama, almost every other prince fell in love with her
Cool.
But, in the end, she gets weaker
She gets pregnant even! From the king of course, and everything happened at the same time
She dies in the end.
And it totally was the most saddest scene in the world.
But I got so confused, because she accidentally time travelled to that era
She doesn't belong there. She got stuck there and DIED.
I was like "Okay? How is everything going back to the way it was for her?"
How, how is the circle going to close? And it didn't end like that.
That's my only complaint.
How did they let her die in the past?
It didn't really made sense to me
But now, I want to tell you my theories.
For the last episodes and scenes from the drama,
The astronomer
Was the character that always knew from Hae Soo really was, that she wasn't from that era
He's the only character that we see in the past and present
And Hae Soo did recognize him when she time travelled, that he was in her present
She did know he was the homeless guy
So he, the astronomer, tells the king, after a year of Hae Soo's death in Goryeo
He is leaving the palace for good and then he tells him
"Like don't worry, Hae Soo isn't from this time, you'll be able to find her"
AND YOU ARE LIKE, THE F*CK.
LIKE HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?
She died stuck in that era.
How was she going to return to the present?
So my theory... I think is when she sees the paintings in the museum
She thought that the memories where nightmares. We see her cry in bed
She realizes that they were memories,
Towards the ending,
He says [Wang So] looking at the camera, "I'm going to find you" referring to Hae Soo
And you are like: WHAT WHAT WHAT?
so as for my theory, after all the suffering,
I wanted that happy ending.
I really thought they were going to give us that happy ending,
But sadly, it wasn't like that.
So it leads you
to an open ending
that possibly they'll find each other again in the present time
They never explained how the astronomer got back in time
That's what we assume, as a viewer, that
That the astronomer knows the way to cross from time to time, to time travel
And maybe, the astronomer told the king about it before he left,
So let's see what happens, I really wish for a second season,
But, it depends, usually korean dramas don't have second seasons.
That is an big exception, unless they do it, but change the actors from the original cast
But I really want that season two.
And that they would answer me that question
that how the astronomer time travelled
If Wang So will "rescue" Hae Soo
Or at least see her again in the present time.
And all of these doubts that they left us
What the hell? After all that suffering?
They aren't going to be together ever?
Yeah, they did loved each other and
I did understand the main concept that
it was all about making Wang So a better person to be a wise king
but yes, at the end, you want that happy ending.
So I need that season 2 for Scarlet Heart
PLEASE KDRAMA GODS, MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
So for rating, I shall give with pillows [pillow rating]
5 to 5 pillows
because I liked the drama very much and
I was hooked and obsessed, playing it non-stop
to know what happens
and I truly suffered along IU
she acted so well and Lee Joon Gi too! They did such a good job together.
5/5 I give it that, so beware of my next kdrama video,
in where I'll discuss Weighlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo!
Which will be in the channel later in the week!

David Wilcock HUGE burst of new intel from Pete Peterson about t - Duration: 4:21.
David Wilcock: HUGE burst of new intel from Pete Peterson about the Antarctic Atlantis
Last night I got a HUGE burst of new intel from Pete Peterson about the Antarctic Atlantis.
Much more specific detail that has clarified a bunch of topics, including UFO crashes from
three different time periods that have all been found.
Pete was part of a team that has been working on an incredibly detailed analysis of these
crashes for at least the last 30 years.
The level of specifics is almost too much, since you are dealing with entire teams of
scientists who did nothing but study these sites for years at a time.
Plans are definitely in place to reveal the whole thing to us.
A negative ET group is also demanding a disclosure announcement in the very near future.
The battle between the Cabal and the Alliance is playing out in the US as the DoD (Alliance)
versus the CIA and there are many mysteries in current events that can be explained.
We are definitely right on track for some major changes in everything we think we know.
The Alliance would have done this regardless of who won the US 2016 election.
I have been very busy with new developments in my life that involve travel and many hours
of work.
All very positive and completely unexpected.
I feel it is very important to get this intel out before I speak at New Living Expo this
weekend in San Francisco.
I have a Sunday talk and a Monday post-conference event.
This is only one of two events I have agreed to do this year despite almost daily requests
for my presence at various conferences.
The new intel will definitely be shared at the event for my own protection even if I
cant get it all out before then.
Right now I have to study for an Ancient Aliens taping that will consume the whole day and
then I am off at 5AM on another trip that will knock out two more days.
You definitely do not want to miss this show if you are anywhere near San Francisco
this weekend!

JOE: NOT QUITE POOL WEATHER
BUT IT WAS A PRETTY NICE DAY
OUT THERE AFTER WE BURN OFF
THAT FOG AND LOW GRADE
CLOUDINESS, HAZY SUNSHINE OUT
THERE.
A LITTLE BIT OF A BREEZE.
YOU CAN SEE THE TREES SWAYING
A LITTLE BIT THERE, HEAD OVER
IN YORK COUNTY.
77° WITH SOME OF THAT
SUNSHINE.
A LITTLE BIT OF THAT
SOUTHEASTERLY BREEZE, BUT LOOK
AT THE DEW POINTS, IN THE
MID-60'S.
THAT MEANS THERE'S MORE
MOISTURE ATMOSPHERE, MORE
HUMIDITY, YEAH, IT'S FEELING A
LITTLE STICKIER OUT THERE AND
THAT'S THE WAY IT WILL FEEL
FOR THE EVENING HOURS.
PRETTY MILD.
COULD BE A THUNDER SHOWER
COMING IN, I'M SAYING ABOUT
AFTER 9:00 OR SO.
TEMPERATURE 70'S, SLIP INTO
THE UPPER 60'S.
WE'LL BOTTOM OUT NEAR 60°.
ANY THUNDER SHOWERS SHOULD END
ABOUT 1:00 OR 2:00 IN THE
MORNING.
OTHERWISE A MILD NIGHT
TONIGHT, A LITTLE ON THE
STICKY SIDE.
BUT IT SHOULD BE A COMFORTABLE
DAY TOMORROW.
70'S TO NEAR 80° WITH MOSTLY
SUNNY SKY, LOW HUMIDITY.
COMFORTABLE DAY, HOPE YOU CAN
EBB ENJOY THE LAST DAY OF THE
WORK WEEK.
POLLEN COUNT, A BIG DEAL.
MODERATE THERE, MOSTLY OAK.
THE AIR QUALITY PARTICULATES
WILL BE AROUND, MODERATE AIR
QUALITY BUT PLENTY OF U.V.
FOR THE U.V. INDEX TOMORROW.
A BURN TIME OF 30 MINUTES OR
LESS.
A LINE OF SHOWERS, YOU SEE IT
HERE?
IT'S A WEAK COOL FRONT.
I EMPHASIZE WEAK, THERE IS
SOME COOLER AIR BEHIND IT BUT
IT'S HEADING WELL UP INTO
CANADA.
YOU CAN SEE THE TEMPERATURES
INTO CHICAGO.
46°.
39° IN GREEN BAY RIGHT NOW,
BUT AGAIN, THAT AIR IS GOING
TO SLIDE UP INTO CANADA.
THAT COLD FRONT WILL SLIDE
THROUGH HERE AS WE GO THROUGH
THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT
HOURS.
AGAIN, PRETTY QUIET.
SOUTHERLY FLOW AHEAD OF IT GOT
800'S -- 80'S ALL THE WAY UP
TO SYRACUSE.
IT DRIES US OUT FOR TOMORROW.
HAZY SUNSHINE, MIXED WITH SOME
CLOUDS RIGHT NOW, NOTHING ON
THE RADAR.
TEMPERATURES, 70'S TO NEAR
80°.
CARLISLE MADE IT, SO DID
CHAMBERSBURG, READING, RIGHT
DOWN AT 222, 278 IN LANCASTER,
THOSE NUMBERS.
A FEW SHOWERS, THEY'RE OUT OF
HERE BY 1:00 OR 2:00 IN THE
MORNING, WE CLEAR IT A BIT
OVERNIGHT TONIGHT.
TOMORROW A PRETTY NICE DAY.
70'S TO NEAR 80° WITH
SUNSHINE.
HERE'S A LOOK AT CHANCES OF
RAIN.
I THINK THEY GO UP THROUGH
ABOUT MIDNIGHT, 1:00 IN THE
MORNING AND THEN THEY REALLY
TAIL OFF, AND AGAIN, IT
DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN
YOU'RE GOING TO GET RAIN IN
YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
THERE WILL BE A FEW SHOWERS
AROUND THOUGH.
REAL WARM DAY ON SATURDAY
DESPITE SOME CLOUDS AND HAZE.
COULD BE SHOWER IN THE
MORNING, MAYBE A THUNDERSTORM
IN THE AFTERNOON.
WE'LL KEEP AN EYE ON THAT.
LOOKS LIKE ON SUNDAY, JUST A
CHANCE OF A SHOWER, NOT QUITE
AS WARM, EITHER.
WE'LL BE IN THE LOWER TO
MID-70'S ON SUNDAY.
POP RIGHT BACK UP INTO THE
80'S ON MONDAY, BETTER CHANCE
OF SOME THUNDERSTORMS THERE.
COULD BE SOME HEAVIER ONCE,
WE'LL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON
THAT.
BREEZE WHERE AND A LITTLE
COOLER AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE
REST OF NEXT WEEK WITH SOME
MORE RAIN RETURNING A LITTLE
LATER ON.

Benefits of Working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Mentors - Duration: 2:37.
Yes!
Why not get involved?
What are you waiting for?
Don't drag your feet just because you're a little scared.
Come join us!
The Deaf Mentor program is ready to support you in everything!
You don't have to be ashamed of having a deaf child.
I do understand how some people may feel.
They have told me about feeling ashamed, or their fear of criticism, or other issues.
Don't think that way.
Get rid of all of those negative thoughts.
Be positive, have faith, and go for it!
People are going to offer suggestions but you don't have to follow what they say.
They are just suggestions not requirements.
We are not going to say you are wrong or don't do that.
We may make suggestions and if it doesn't work, we go back, tweak it and try again.
So don't get discouraged!
Our suggestions are to help you grow in your relationship and communication with your kids...
to make sure they're not left behind in their education.
...or left behind in communication.
We don't want them to feel alone!
We want them to be involved with YOU and your family.
Doing things together.
We don't want them to feel separated... held back or frustrated.
It's going to be important for you to ask your deaf mentor how to deal with your kids
when they are behaving differently.
The mentor may have a chance to observe the behavior,
and offer explanations.
They may take a moment to talk with your kid, to listen and get a sense of what they are
feeling.
But understand that it's not just between the two of them.
It needs to be everyone working as team to clearly understand how
the deaf child feels and provide support and encouragement.
Get involved with the deaf community, deaf culture, sign language, … oral speech,
even practicing speech with them.
You can teach them about your culture, your heritage, or your traditions.
They are going to learn from you and become successful.
And in the future when they are grown up, they will say "thank you
for supporting me and giving me a sense of pride."
That's what my grandfather did for me.
He was an important part of my life and a great role model.
He was always supportive and involved in everything.
That is how I developed my self-worth.
I didn't feel left out or alone.
I had a "I can do it" attitude.
You can help your kids feel the same way I did.
And they will!
They will know they can do anything, be independent and learn.
They are going to come to you for advice rather than feeling lost.
You can work together, ...and be successful.
And I know you will!

Granny's Corner: Ghosts & Games, hmmm! - Duration: 3:18.
Hello InnerTubers, welcome to Episode 3 of Granny's Corner.
This is where I offer advice and solutions to people who've written to me with questions.
And, oh boy, we have another doozie today.
Here's our question: "My son, and daughter-in-law, and I enjoy visiting haunted places.
What kind of advice do you have for families who do ghostly experiences together?
My husband thinks we're fucking crazy."
You know what, InnerTubers?
I think I got this in 3 steps again.
I'm not sure about a bonus tip.
We'll see how that goes.
[looking around feeling spooky] Oooo, s'cuse me.
Uhhh.
Something bothered me just a minute there.
Step #1 – Let's talk about safety!
When you visit these ghostly places, do the spirits talk to you?
Do they make your skirt blow up?
Do they make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up?
That's some heavy shit right there.
You tell those fuckers to back off and give you some space.
It's very important to maintain a safe perimeter around your body at all times.
This is a whole different kind of theme park, fuckers.
Ohhhh, fuck, yeah!
Step #2 – I didn't read anything about you inviting the hubster along, so I don't
think he has any skin in this game.
Who the fuck cares, what he thinks, about what you do, if he doesn't have to do it?
Jus' sayin'.
Dude, your fam may be wacky, but they're happy wacky!
Step #3 – Talk about what he's doing while you're off on your ghostly excursions.
I'm guessing that what he does is probably not what you want to do, right?
Assuming that his activities are all legal and shit, don't you be giving him any sass-back
about what he does.

Maybe there's something you can all do together - as a family - to make memories.
Maybe it's bowling?

Or, what the fuck, maybe Cards Against Humanity?
My family loves that game.
Yeah, there ya go: memories and something in common.
There's your bonus tip.

How did IRELAND step out of POVERTY? - VisualPolitik EN - Duration: 10:05.
Ireland, the country with the highest density of famous musicians per capita in the entire
world.
Ireland is a country with less than 5 million inhabitants - even Boston has a larger population.
But as small as the population may be Ireland is the cradle of well known music stars such
as Enya, The Cramberries, and, of course Bono from U2.
But there is another thing that makes Ireland famous as well.
It is the second wealthiest country in the Eurozone.
Further, Irish people also have more money than the British or the Swiss.
And this is surprising given that just 30 years ago, Ireland was as poor as Greece.
Yep, you heard it right.
Back then, 1 in every 5 Irish university students were emigrating to other countries.
Today, there are more people with Irish blood living in the US or Australia than in Ireland
itself!
Nonetheless, now this country is the home to some of the world's leading technological
companies.
Firms like Apple or Google have their tax headquarters here.
Many of you might thinking now that this is simple because of the low taxes there, right?
Now, of course, it is true that Ireland offers good fiscal conditions for companies.
But other countries like the Republic of Liberia or Seychelles also pretty low corporate taxes
and they are not even half as rich as Ireland...
So the question here is: What have they done to grow so fast?
How is that possible that, even after the financial crisis, Ireland remains wealthier
than Switzerland?
Today we are going to answer this question.
But first, as usual, let´s take a look at the history.
THE POOREST OF THE WEALTHIEST
Ireland was born in 1922.
Before that the whole island was part of the British Crown.
And the relationship…
Well, it wasn't exactly great.
For the English politicians, Ireland was a land of Catholic peasants, who were unwilling
to work, and devoted to having lots and lots of children.
This explains why, after they got their independence, the new Republic of Ireland cut all their
ties with London.
Well, actually, it wasn't just London, they closed off their relationships with the rest
of the world as wel.
Even during World War II, they were the only English speaking country that kept neutral.
But not only that...
The different Irish governments closed their gates to international trade.
They even but a ban on foreigners owning or investing in local companies!
So what was the outcome of these policies?
Well, that would be a brutal economic crisis...
Fortunately enough though, since Irish people spoke English, they could easily move to America.
And we're not just talking about a few adventurers here...
In just a few decades, the Irish population was cut in half.
And, of course, this lead to the national industry not growing as was expected.
Just think about it: in such a small country, it's simply impossible to find the tools
and resources needed to build factories and machines.
They needed to import them.
But since the government put so many fares and barriers on foreign trade… it was pretty
to do this, and start a company.
This is why in 1957, with the government of Seán Thomas O´Kelly, made Ireland turn 180
on their trade policy.
This is how they went from not buying anything to opening their gates to the entire world.
Right after that, they signed a free trade agreement with UK and, a decade later, they
would enter the European Community, later called European Union.
But hold on just a minute, my dear libertarians who might be watching this video… just hold
back your enthusiasm for a wee moment.
Because this openness to free trade was not as good as expected.
Look, for decades, Ireland was closed for business.
They had nationalized some of their companies, and when a company knows that they have no
rivals and their market share is guaranteed by the government… well they have no reasons
to improve!
This explains, for instance, why in 1980, people in the city of CORK, in the South of
the island, had so many electricity blackouts.
The wiring network hadn't been repaired for decades.
And similar things happened in multiple other industries.
All of a sudden, the Irish economy allowed people buy goods abroad.
New products, more competitive products, appeared in the market.
So now your probably wondering, what happened with the local producers?
Well… they disappeared, and with them, thousands of people lost their Jobs.
In 1987, Ireland reached an unemployment of 17%.
So, once again the Irish youth started packing up and moving abroad.
Now, if you've been following VisualPolitik from some time now, you probably know that
immigration is not really a problem for a country.
Can you guess what the real issue is?
Well, it's the opposite.
MIGRATION.
Who was leaving Ireland?
It was the university students and those with higher skills.
This caused what is know as a BRAIN DRAIN.
Oh, but there is more!
In order to attract multinational corporations, the government lowered taxes.
And, of course, this strategy worked out well.
Firms like Intel, Apple and Microsoft chose Ireland as the place for their European Headquarters.
So, what was the problem with this?
They just opened a small office with an accountant.
This means their contribution to the country´s wealth was fairly poor.
If this was not enough, the same government that put the red carpet out to companies,
was raising income tax on its citizens.
Some ended up paying up to a 60% tax from their salaries.
If this was not enough, Irish legislation did not make it easy to hire people.
So consider the situation: jobs are disappearing, local companies are going bankrupt, government
spending is on the rise, and thousands of Irish people are leaving the country.
In 1988 The Economist magazine published this article.
"Poorest of the rich.
Poor Ireland behaved as though it was Rich Now it must pay the price".
Alright, so that's the bad stuff covered.
Now, how did they step out of this scenario?
Let me tell you a story.
THE CELTIC TIGER ROARS
It was the year 1987, and Charles Haughey had won the elections in Ireland.
He found a country on the edge of collapse.
And he realized something: you can't open your economic system without modernizing it
first.
Of course, companies like ORACLE or HP were happy to be in Ireland and pay way less taxes
than in the US.
But where they willing to open a research center or a factory that would employ 1000
people?
The answer is no.
And why?
Well, first they would have to deal with the labor laws, which was a bureaucratic nightmare.
But not only that!
Do you remember what I told you about the 60% income tax?
This means that, no matter how high the salaries are, the worker will get a fairly small share
of that.
In other words, highly skilled professionals would rather move to the US.
So the first policy implemented by Haughey was to make a deal with the trade unions and
the companies: salaries would grow at the same rate as the economy would.
On the other hand, he lowered income taxes.
This way, workers ended up making more money even if the wages were the same.
And soon this started generating results.
"Hewlett Packard Leixlip plant is to employ 2000 people by 2000"
In a short amount of time, all of those multinational companies that had opened their fiscal headquarters
on Irish soil started opening their own factories and offices.
Meanwhile, unemployment was going down, wages were on the rise, and even the government
collected more money.
But, not only that, this deal with the unions and bureaucratic simplification helped create
all new companies.
Even flown with RyanAir?
Bought a t-shirt at Primark?
Drunk a Guinness?
Well, all of those companies expanded internationally during those years.
This explains why the Irish economy grew as much as the Chinese during the 1990s.
Suddenly, hairdressers in Dublin would offer Champagne to their customers.
Some people even flew to New York to do some shopping on the weekend.
These were the years of the Celtic Tiger.
And at that point, The Economist decided to dedicate another article to the country.
"A decade ago Irish incomes were less than two-thirds of British incomes; last year,
on one measure, they surpassed them."
But hold on a moment because not everything is so perfect!
Of course, during those 15 years, salaries doubled, but that optimism drove banks to
offer mortgages to nearly everyone and encouraged ridiculous spending.
In those years, there were even companies that rented helicopters for children to made
have their first communion in the air!
And this led to a financial crisis that we are going to covering in another video.
If you don´t wanna miss this, please don't forget to subscribe to this channel.

So, now the question is: Do you think the Irish model could help other countries like
Greece or India?
Do you think poor countries could benefit from attracting foreign investment?

5 Funky ADVANCED Layups: Unstoppable Finishing Around The Rim! Jelly Layup! - Duration: 6:56.
5 FUNKY Advanced Layups: Unstoppable Finishing Around The Rim! Jelly Layup!
want to learn how to do some advanced
finishing moves from Kyrie Irving
finishing moves and Steph Curry
finishing moves some crazy finishing
move today I got you covered with some
advanced layout what's up guys def
cement you get handled make sure you
stay tuned this entire video because i'm
going to show you five different ways to
make them crazy finishes around the rim
that i can make you pretty much
unstoppable and on top of that at the
very end of the video i'm going to have
work awfully that's going to help you
increase your scoring by a bunch first
of all i'm going to give you it's a
little bit more common but once i'm
going to give you abstinence are a
little bit more unique so the first 10
is going to be any type of a pump faking
air and then finishing you can mix this
up a ton of the ways you can pump fake
with two hands and go you know to one
hand you can go from left or right from
one hand to the other could do like
what's kind of popular right now the
jelly layup where you kind of cock it
back come under 10 ways you could do it
but you can also do it which has been
around for a while which is more like
the reverse so you could fake with one
hand come to the other on the other side
or come this way and come to the other
side you can even do a taking here when
you're out from a little further to get
your defender to jump and they kind of
come under and finish over here one key
tip so for all these that i think you're
going to find helpful especially the
ones where you're doing like more of a
reverse or your scoop to kind of come
over to the side it's putting some spin
on the ball and what that's going to
allow you to do is hit the backboard
more on the side and then has to come
pull across the backboard into the hoop
that's going to throw the fenders off
because they're going to you know expect
you to typically try to finish right
inside thats quick well if you can try
to finish hitting the backboard out
there that's going to throw their
positioning off and where they're
expecting to see the basketball goal but
the idea again is to kind of finish
somewhere where they don't expect and
also till they're tying off by giving
them that pump fake in the air this next
dish is pretty unique and unusual
something I came up with not going to
fail the only person that's ever done it
what is something I definitely worked on
so he'll get my shot off over bigger
players bigger players going to wait to
time your shot right so I thought to
myself well they're going to kind of
time you going 12 steps or what if we
get rid of that second step and just one
step and that's what this moves cause
the one step Leia I do this a lot of
different ways I'll do it even from 10
15 feet out more as a floater kind of
you can kind of do it closer to the who
come here and just go right up into the
shot before taking that second stuff
again the throw their timing off gets a
shot off a little bit quicker left hand
left foot jump no second step it's going
to feel really awkward and weird to try
to get it down so you might want to
practice it a little bit minky i can
give you to get it down it just work on
doing it slow so maybe just stand next
to the basket here both jump shoot and
that's pretty much it and then gradually
work on doing it quicker and then from
there you can work on doing it kind of
further up the hoop give it a try it's
kind of crazy the goofy hand-finished
this is one that can definitely be
beneficial to you but don't do it as a
crutch and what I mean by that is a lot
of players aren't really comfortable
finishing with both hands if you're a
left-handed player maybe you'll be on
the right side by molesky and sometimes
and all you can catch myself soon too
sometimes on the right hand side of the
room finishing with that left hand just
because I'm not being smart about it the
reason you might want to do this is us
say I have a defender right here in that
instance I don't want to finish with my
left hand because that's making it
easier from to get to the ball if I have
this fail at the ball now I have
protection on this side or another
scenario would be if you able to fender
kind of trailing you on your back hip
here and he's a little bit more to the
side again you don't probably want to
finish with this hand maybe you'd want
to finish the first half or if your
body's position in a way where this
hands already close to the hoop and you
need to get the shot off quicker again
another efficient way forward you might
want to use that goofy hands one other
thing to keep in mind with these goofy
hand layup is they can it be applied to
to using them in revert left hand I
could take the shot and revert right
hands could be revert on the left side
the reason you would want to do that as
let's say maybe there's an offender here
you can shield them here while going up
for that revert shop hey if you think in
the moon so far make sure you hit that
like button for me can we talk to me han
let's talk goofy foot a lot of ways is
going to be kind of similar to the one
step because you're going to be jumping
off the book that you normally wouldn't
for your list so normally you know if
you're going to go for a left-hand layup
you go left right left arm in the air
left foot in the air right when you jump
the two-step goofy foot would be
basically going right left now why would
you want to do this you would maybe want
to do that if you have a defender here
this light can be used to shield them to
protect the basketball the other
situational you might want to use this
is to try to get to the rim quicker
you're in a situation where you're
picking the basketball and you know you
got to get your shot off quick if you
have to slow down to go into the left
right
and that gives her the printer time to
get back in front of you what's the
point right why get the right stuff for
the layup only to get your shot box it
doesn't make any sense the idea is to
put the ball in the hole not worry too
much about making sure you're taking the
right steps so that being said make sure
you could do your laps the right way as
well don't do it again as a crutch
because you can't do it the right way
what there's certain situations if I got
a defender here and the quickest way to
go up for that layup right left I'm
going to go right left don't be afraid
so you don't use that kind of a step
when the situation calls for it in games
this is something you want to practice
like everything in this tutorial you're
going to want to make sure you're
working on it getting repetitions in
flowing game time comes and you do have
to break off these sorts of things that
you could do it make sure you're doing
them left side and right side I had to
be something kind of extra crazy it's a
fake reverse 180 you don't want to use
it as just the show off unless you're
and pick up game and you're just have a
good time but you know your coach might
not like this finish one month of a
situation really cause for it you're
going to fake like you're going to
reverse so you want to kind of take off
a little bit closer to the hoop so you
make your defender think that you're
about to come finish this way the way my
body is positioned right now it would be
really hard for me to try to finish on
this side which is why we're going to
spin in air so now that gives me the
ability to extend to this side more and
finish the idea behind it it's kind of
like the ones we talked about before
where you give a fake in the air and
then you would finish where they don't
expect you to finish so it's done up
typically what you would want to do is
you want to either fake with both hands
with one hand and then act like you're
going to come here but I kind of
bringing the ball here to the side like
you're about to come across as your turn
in air and then come back to this side
physically you're going to want to do
this so if I'm spinning and coming this
way I'm on the right side of the hoop
trying to finish I would want to use my
right hand so I can put that spin on to
get the finish to go in a little bit
easier you could do it with the left
hand but it's probably going to be a
little bit more tough and again if
you're doing it from the other side
would want to fake it and then if I'm on
this side I want to run use left hand so
I can get that spin up you can push it
up and try to work on both but I would
recommend trying to go more with
whichever side you're on finish with
that hand so left side left hand right
side right hand now the situation's
you'd want to use this number one if
you've got your defender kind of timing
and expecting you to jump over here and
they kind of jump in front of you that's
a good situation or number two when you
know you're going to take some contact
and you don't feel like you could take
the contact and get the shot off going
straight up in the world now it might be
a good situation up takes the contact
and in turn here because that's going to
give you protection over the bass love
thunders here and the space that gets a
shot off because you're extending away
from them leave me a comment down below

What NOT to ask a Transgender Person (Tygh) - Duration: 3:10.
Hey You!
When did you decide to be transgender?
Uhm, I didn't decide to be transgender, I am transgender.
What's your real name?
Hmmm what's my real name?
My real name is Tygh.
You were always such a pretty girl.
Uhh...Thank you?
Hey if you like girls the why didn't just stay a lesbian?
Basically, there wasn't a choice in the matter.
Simple as that.
Hey, did you get the surgery?
Um, the surgery?
The surgery?
Did you get the surgery?
How do you have sex?
I don't know, how do you have sex?
Hey, what's in your pants?
What's in my pants?
Calvin Kleins?
Can I see some old pictures of you, you know like baby pictures?
Well, I have old pictures but I just met you and why would you want to ask me this question?
I don't really care about your baby pictures.
You look strong.
Doesn't Testosterone build your muscles?
If I look strong it's not because I'm on Testosterone.
Yes Testosterone aids in building muscle but you have to work out to build the muscle.
If you don't work out then you're just going to be maybe a skinny or fat or just a normal
hairier person with less hair on your head.
You got to work out.
It's not like a steroid.
In fact I have as much T as the average "CIS" guy in their system.
Period.
Wow, you're pretty short for a guy.
You know that's a pretty ignorant statement.
There are many guys shorter than me.
Take a look around.
Is there a Mrs. Lawrence-Clarke here?
Uhm why are you calling me that?
Well, there's an F on your insurance card.

ARTIFICIAL UTERUS SUCCESSFULLY DEVELOPS BABY SHEEP! | Will Future Humans Be Born From A Female Womb? - Duration: 1:58.
Well well, how are you doing today?
I am here to bring you the latest transhumanist news, inside this fake matrix world.
So, an artificial uterus has successfully finished developing a premature baby sheep.
Yes, indeed, the baby sheep was able to finish it's development inside an artificial womb
made of plastic and tubes.
This new technology is called BioBag.
Basically, it's a simple system which contains the key components for an artificial uterus:
a clear plastic bag which encloses and protects the fetal lamb, an electrolyte solution, similar
to the amniotic fluid, which bathes the baby sheep, and lastly, a circulatory system for
the blood, which allows for the exchange of carbon dioxide for oxygen.
Alan Flake, the leading author of the study, says that the BioBag needs more development
before it can be used for humans.
It has only been successfully tested on sheep, but I am sure it will eventually be used to
grow human vessels.
After all, people are not that different from sheep, isn't that so?
As a matter of fact, they believe they will be able to begin in-human trials in three
years.
Tell me in the comment section, what do you think of this new technological progress?
How do you think this will revolutionize the lives of the sheeple of the future?
Are we living in a Brave New World yet?
Welcome to the future: genetically modified human sheeple being grown in plastic bags.

The Lumiere Brothers: Crash Course Film History #3 - Duration: 9:31.
Hi. I'm the internet's Craig. This is Crash Course Film History.
Based on what you've probably heard, or read, or… what I told you last time, you're
probably under the impression that the development of modern film technology is all
thanks to famous inventor Thomas Edison, and his less-than-famous employee, William Dickson.
You're wrong. I can't believe how wrong you are.
Together, these guys developed two of the
first commercially-viable film technologies: the kinetograph – basically a camera – and
the kinetoscope – a single-viewer exhibition device that you use to watch kinetograph films.
But guess what?
As was often the case with Edison, a lot of the credit that's given to him also belongs to a great many other people.
...not me.
While Edison and Dickson were setting out to make moving pictures in New Jersey, lots
of other inventors were tinkering with film technology across the world.
In Lyon, France, a pair of brothers saw the kinetograph and kinetoscope – and said,
"We can do better than that!"
And they did.
Within two years, they invented a lightweight, all-in-one motion picture device that made
movies and exhibited them.
They figured out a way to use the camera mechanism to play back the developed roll of film, projecting
bright light through it to show images.
Films could be projected on an entire wall or screen, letting audiences of people experience films, together... It'll never work.
By sheer coincidence – or maybe fate – their surname means "light."
Say hello to the Lumière Brothers and the first projected films.
[Intro Music Plays]
Auguste and Louis Lumière were born in the 1860s in eastern France.
In 1870, their father moved the family to Lyon and opened a small factory that made
photographic plates.
The family business, like all my businesses, teetered on the edge of bankruptcy, until the brothers took over.
They devised machines to help automate the plant, and invented a new and improved photo plate.
By the time they started experimenting with film technology, the Lumière Brothers had
lots of experience in business, engineering, manufacturing, and photography.
They were intrigued by Edison's motion picture devices, but quickly saw the flaws: the camera
was hard to move, and only one person could watch a film at a time.
So they went back to the basics, and made a better camera.
Remember the intermittent stop-and-go mechanism – how motion picture cameras need to stop
the film long enough to expose one frame to light, before moving the roll to the next frame?
Well, the Lumière Brothers developed a device around the stop-and-go mechanisms used in
sewing machines.
They weren't the only ones tinkering with this engineering problem, though.
Inventors were working independently all over Europe and the United States, putting the
pieces together that will one day become cinema.
By 1897, the German optician-turned-film pioneer Oskar Messter perfected his
design for the stop-and-go mechanism, called the Maltese Cross – named after the medal
with the same shape.
It's also called the Geneva Drive, because it was first invented in Geneva, Switzerland
for use in mechanical watches.
Messter's device has really stood the test of time: we still use a version of it in most
projectors today.
But, back to the Lumières and their motion picture camera. Transition PUNCH!
Their whole contraption was a compact, portable box.
It was light enough for one person to carry.
The camera was operated by a hand crank, so it didn't rely on an electric power source.
It used the same 35 millimeter film as Edison's kinetograph, but it could also develop the
film that it shot – no more sending film off to a lab and waiting for the mail.
...I hate waiting for the mail.
But, that's not all, once the film had been developed, the Lumière device could
be reconfigured into a projection machine.
So many things in one. It's so... aw it's just good.
They could run the developed film back through the intermittent stop-and-go mechanism, and,
with a bright light source, the images would project onto a wall or a screen.
This device could do it all.
You could carry it with you out into the world, capture footage, develop the film, and then
project it, any time, anywhere, any way you wanted.
Don't do it vertical though... commentors hate that.
Compared to the kinetograph and kinetoscope, it was kind of like the technological leap
from an old school flip phone to a smartphone.
The Lumière Brothers wanted to call their invention the "cinématographe," which means
"writing with movement."
Like Edison, the Lumière Brothers were savvy businessmen, and secured international patents
on all their technology.
Doing Edison one better, they saw a lot of potential in having large, public film screenings.
Before the public unveiling of their cinématographe, they held a series of private parties where
they projected films for groups of distinguished guests, stoking interest and excitement.
And then in Paris, on December 28th, 1895, at the Salon Indien in the basement of the
Grand Café, Auguste and Louis Lumière screened a series of ten short films and changed the
world forever.
Now, I should mention that this wasn't technically the first public screening of a motion picture.
That honor, as far as we know, goes to Woodville Latham, an American chemist and kinetoscope
owner, who projected a film of a boxing match in New York in May, 1895.
What set the Lumière Brothers apart was that they played up the intrigue of their device
and gained publicity, plus their superior image quality and the sheer number of films
they presented.
This is the movie business, after all, and hype almost always wins.
So the credit for first successful public screening typically goes to Auguste and Louis Lumière.
Sorry, Latham. Better luck next time. Maybe go back to chemistry.
Among the films the Lumière Brothers screened that night was "The Train Arrives at La Ciotat Station."
In the film, a train – you guessed it – arrives at a station. Kinda spoiled it with the title.
In a single, uninterrupted shot, it comes toward the camera, stops, and the passengers disembark.
Legend has it that when the first audience saw this movie projected on the wall, it was
so unfamiliar and realistic that they ran screaming from the theater, fearing for their lives.
In recent years, historians have thrown cold water on this story for a couple reasons.
First, seeing images projected onto walls wouldn't have been a new experience for
a lot of Parisians.
Some version of the magic lantern projection device had been used for education and entertainment
since the 17th century, employing a light source and a lens to project images or paintings
from glass plates up onto a wall.
Not to mention, most of the Lumière audience would probably have been aware of kinetoscope films.
So chances are no one actually thought a train was about to drive through the wall
and run them all down.
More likely, the audience might have shrieked in delight at the size and clarity of the
images projected, and at the sheer magic of seeing these pictures come to life.
Remember, film presents us with the illusion of reality.
And like any good magic trick or optical illusion, part of the thrill is knowing that what you're
seeing isn't real, but not being able to tell how the magician pulled it off.
The story of the screaming audience in the Grand Café also reveals the power film has
to create a communal experience.
While the technical wizardry of their cinématographe was groundbreaking, the unique group psychology
of movie-going may have been the Lumières' greatest contribution to film history.
When you're in an audience watching a film, you're having a specific, personal experience,
but you're also part of a pop-up community.
... and sometimes that community has a has a bunch of kids who won't be quiet and you're trying to watch Batman vs. Superman!
Think back to the last hysterical comedy you
saw in a movie theater, and then tried to watch again by yourself at home.
It's not the same, is it?
Film is this unique artistic medium that can take on different meanings depending when,
where, and with whom you're watching it.
Now, the Lumière Brothers' films all shared a few characteristics.
They were silent, black-and-white, and uninterrupted shots that lasted less than a minute – much
like the films out of Edison's Black Maria.
But rather than capturing stage performers and skits, the Lumière films were mini-documentaries,
known as "actualités."
They focused on slices of everyday life: two babies fighting over lunch, a group of workers
leaving a factory at the end of the day, and, of course, trains arriving at stations.
These films were financially successful right out of the gate.
The Lumière Brothers' first screening brought in 35 francs, at 1 franc per person.
And within a month, they were making 7,000 francs per week.
that's... *counting* 7,000 people!
Meanwhile, other inventors were making cinématographe-like devices with cool names like the Bioskop
and the Theatrograph.
Some were directly inspired by the Lumière Brothers, while others were independent.
Thomas Edison saw the financial success the Lumière Brothers were having and wanted a
very big piece of that action – abandoning the kinetoscope to jump into theatrical projection.
Edison and other inventors also began experimenting with longer films. BORING!
But there was a big problem: these longer film strips kept tearing inside the projector.
Enter Woodville Latham.
Remember him?
The guy who really held the first public projection of a movie?
He held the patent for the Latham Loop, a different way to feed film into a projector,
which involved a pair of small, loose loops of film – one above and one below the projector's
lens – held in place with extra sprockets.
This helped protect the film from vibrations and tension, which could lead to damage.
In 1895, another pair of early film pioneers, C. Francis Jenkins and Thomas Armat, used
the Latham Loop in a projector of their own design and called it the Vitascope.
Edison saw this device, bought it outright, and released it as the "Edison Vitascope,"
giving the original inventors almost no credit… 'cause that's how Thomas Edison rolled.
Throughout all this experimentation, most people thought of films as a fad that would
burn brightly for a few years, and then disappear – like arsenic as medicine, séances, or
Victorian "tear catchers."
Even the Lumière Brothers got out of the movie business in 1905, because they didn't
see a future for film. Good idea!
And it's true, 50-second Vaudeville performances and actualités will only entertain audiences
for so long.
But film was growing into something bigger – a method of mass communication that was
starting to make itself indispensable.
As time went on, filmmakers would take cinématographes to far-flung places, capturing movies of the
Amazon Basin, the pyramids at Giza, and the ruins of Ancient Rome.
Suddenly, you could walk into a theater in Peoria, Illinois and see Sherpas climbing
the Himalayas. ... Without drugs!
In some ways, these kinds of films knit the world closer together, showing people sights
they'd never experience in real life.
You can even compare film history to the early days of YouTube.
Sure, we started with Jawed at the zoo, and cat videos, and kids on dental anesthesia.
But that was just scratching the surface of a medium that has let us create so many weird,
wonderful, and important things, and has changed the way we see ourselves and the world around us.
Today, we introduced you to the Lumière Brothers and their cinématographe, the all-in-one
camera, film developing lab, and projector.
We learned about the first big public film screenings, and how people were beginning
to have collective movie-going experiences, as well as very personal ones.
We discussed actualités, the snapshots of everyday life, and how some filmmakers were
beginning to push the envelope, exploring the world and making longer movies.
And next time, we'll talk about the very first films to tell stories, using editing
and special effects to manipulate reality in exciting new ways.

House May Pass One Week Funding Bill To Avoid Shut Down As Negotiations Stall
It appears that contrary to expectations that Trump caving on the border wall would assure
a US government shutdown is averted, Reuters reports the U.S. House of Representative could
move soon to consider a stop-gap can kicking bill to fund the government for a week to
avoid a shutdown at midnight on Friday and buy time to strike a deal for a long-term
funding plan.
Reuters cited a House Republican source who said that a one-week bill would give lawmakers
a little breathing room to complete negotiations on broader legislation, although
it is unclear why if Democrats havent agreed with core GOP principals, they would agree
next Friday.
Meanwhile, Democrats have said they would support a weeklong extension only if a deal
on a longer-term plan was close to completion, and while a senior House Republican suggested
that was the case, we very much doubt it.
We could get there today, we are not very far away, Representative Tom Cole, a member
of the House Appropriations Committee, told reporters.
Translation: we are very, very far away.

Varanasi City Guide | India Travel Videos - Duration: 10:02.
Alright guys it is our second last destination here in India.
We have finally made it to Varanasi (वाराणसी) and this is our first morning exploring the
ghats.
Yeah and this is one of the must visit destinations that we planed in our itinerary.
I visited back in 2010 and it is a fascinating place to visit.
It is the kind of place where you don't really have a set schedule you just kind of wander
around the ghats and take it all in.
And at different times of day there is different types of things happening.
So it is one of those places that you just return to all throughout the day and something
fascinating is always going on here.
Yeah and I mean we've been here in the morning for just maybe a little under an hour and
we have seen so much already.
There is people doing laundry, there is like people having their breakfast, there is goats
wandering around.
There is people bathing in the Ganges.
People are bathing.
There burning ghats are already are happening.
People are being cremated basically so there is a lot going on and it is just a lot to
take in so it is the kind of place where you stroll around slowly and you stop frequently.
Ghats is the word used to describe the steps that lead down to the river's edge.
There are a total of 87 ghats in Varanasi (वाराणसी), some bigger than
others, but we just focused on a handful, starting at Dashashwamedh Ghat (दशाश्वमेध
घाट) and working our way down.
Along the way we saw former palaces built by royal families, cheap guesthouses that
cater to backpackers, and plenty of temples.
So when we were in Agra a few days ago I overheard a few girls saying how they had been in Varanasi
(وارانسی) and they refused to get any laundry done because they saw people doing
laundry on the Ganges river.
And I thought okay they are probably exaggerating.
That doesn't actually happen.
But now we're out here and we're seeing hotel bed sheets and hotel towels being washed by
hand in the river and I have to say I'm kind of horrified.
I probably will not be handing in any laundry while I'm here.
Just a bit further downstream we came to Manikarnika Ghat (मणिकर्णिका घाट),
also known as the Burning Ghat, where bodies are cremated.
Hindus believe that cremation on the banks of the Ganges River can break the cycle of
reincarnation, which is why many choose to die here.
If you decide to visit the Burning Ghat, be aware that camera use is not allowed and you'll
have to keep your distance.
As lively as the Ganges is by day, we also made time to visit by night so we could watch
the Ganga Aarti ceremony (श्री गंगा आरती).
This is a fire worship ceremony that takes place at Dashashwamedh Ghat (दशाश्वमेध
घाट), with lots of singing, chanting, burning candles and billowing incense.
You can watch the ceremony from the steps or aboard the boats for a small fee, but either
way, you'll want to arrive early to claim a spot as it gets very busy.
Okay so we made it down to the ghats.
It looks like the ceremony is about to begin.
But we got Sam's parents some seats up on a balcony by the temple so they're going to
get great views.
They're like VIP seats.
We paid 50 Rupees each.
50 Rupees and we're going to run around and film like crazy.
So see you in a bit.
Sam are you dancing with them?
(Singing and dance music)
So one of my favorite things to do here in Varanasi (वाराणसी) is just wander
around like go exploring through the old town is just like a labyrinth, it is like a maze.
There is so much people watching.
There is a lot of animals, there is a lot of cows.
There is also a lot of opportunity to shop as well so I'm going to show you some of that.
So I don't know if you guys can hear this but we're standing by the window here in our
hotel room and the honking never ends.
You know what?
I would love to just get uh a thing of popcorn and sit right down here because this is like
the best entertainment ever.
Oh my gosh.
Just outside.
It is absolute madness.
Like pan to this.
Show what is going on.
I feel like I'm slowly losing my mind.
There is honking from sun up to sun down.
It never ends.
This is probably one of the busiest like intersection roundabouts in the city because we're really
close to some of the main ghats and there is just a lot of all-kind-of-things happening
here.
I mean you see cows, you see people, you see autorickshaws.
You see peddle rickshaws.
There is vehicles.
It is absolute madness.
I'm going to go down on street level and capture some of that for you.
Yeah, and Sam is going by himself because there is no way I'm subjecting myself to that.
It is a solo mission.
Solo mission.
Bye.
(Street noises and honking)
Ah, no thank you.
Oh my gosh that cow is still there.
This is going to be the best timelapse ever.
It has just been eating from the same thing.
You seem friendly.
Do you want little pets.
I don't have food but I can give you little pets.
Hello cow.
Hello cow.
Hello.
Lastly, it wouldn't have been a proper trip to Varanasi (वाराणसी) without
taking a boat ride down the Ganges River.
We were up before the crack of dawn to meet our boatman, and our early morning wake up
call was rewarded with one of the best sunrises we saw in India.
So confession time.
We were the only two willing to wake up this early and get out on a boat.
So I think we deserve a few brownie points for that.
Yeah.
Huh?
Maybe even a Snickers bar.
Maybe a Snickers bar.
We bought a whole bunch of Snickers bars to take on the train later today.
So yeah, we definitely deserve this but it is pretty special moment.
Like never in my wildest dreams would I think you know the two of us would be out here in
India out on the ghats in Varanasi (وارانسی) but yet here we are.
It is pretty awesome huh?
It is really neat no matter what time of day you come down here.
There is always something going on and you know you come down at peak times you'll see
a festival.
Yeah.
Or early in the morning or late at night.
Yeah, exactly.
And we've been exploring at all times of day so this has been really cool and we're just
kind of wrapping things up here.
We've got a train to catch to Kolkata later today.
So yeah, our last time here at the ghats.
Yeah it is I'm going to be a little sad to leave them actually.
I know it has been a great experience.
And it has been really cool uh traveling with you guys too.
Yeah, well it is always special traveling with you two.
I know that.
Ah, it is like having two personal guides along at the same time.
Haha.
With a lot of knowledge.
So we're wrapping things up here in Varanasi (वाराणसी) at the train station.
We've done all of our train travel in India by trains so it is kind of appropriate that
our very last journey to Calcutta is by train.
So yeah, we're just our train has been delayed by four hours so we've just been waiting a
really long time and now we're getting ready to board.
Hopefully it is coming soon.
