It's Friday April Twenty-Eighth Twenty Seventeen, I'm Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield and this is
TEN, the automotive equivalent to This Week Tonight, but with less John Oliver, Donald
Trump, and Lolz.
As recently as a year ago, luxury German brands like BMW, Daimler and Audi were playing it
cool, telling anyone who would listen that they were far from scared of upstart Tesla
and its range of super-fast, all-electric cars.
But in recent weeks, Daimler, Audi and Porsche have all admitted that Tesla is a major threat
to their established market share -- and this week we learned that BMW is actually leveraging
fear of Tesla among its employees to encourage them to do everything they can to work hard
to help BMW catch up with Tesla's electric lead.
As Elisabeth Behrmann of Bloomberg reports, BMW has been holding regular "pep rally
/ horror film"showings, complete with images of rival luxury cars, and Elon Musk.
The message?
That the auto industry is in the midst of an electric assault which must be taken very
seriously, and that BMW needs to do everything it can to develop electric vehicles which
are better than Tesla's.
Following the slashing of Model S 60 and 60D battery unlock prices earlier this month,
Tesla has confirmed this week that it has slashed the battery capacity unlock price
for Tesla Model X 60D owners to just four thousand U.S. dollars.
Yes, it's still twice the unlock price for the Model S 60 and 60D, but this particular
upgrade is more attractive than ever before for Model X owners.
While I'm on the subject of Tesla unlocks, I should note here that Tesla has begun pushing
a new software update to all Tesla cars fitted with Autopilot 2.0 hardware which should activate
Automatic Emergency Braking on these cars and finally bring Tesla Autopilot 2.0 cars
in feature parity with Tesla Autopilot 1.0 cars
It's taken longer than Tesla had originally planned, but here's hoping the upgrade push
goes without a hitch, and finally makes Tesla Autopilot 2.0 owners a little happier.
Talking of fun, it seems owners of the Chevrolet Bolt EV -- all three and a half thousand of
them so far -- seem to be making plenty of use of the two hundred and thirty-eight miles
of EPA-approved range that each Bolt EV is capable of.
So much so that as of April second, the three thousand four hundred and ninety-two Bolt
EV owners in the U.S. who had their cars at that point had totalled more than four point
five million cumulative miles of zero tailpipe emission driving, with one owner managing
three hundred and ten miles on a single charge and on a continuous trip.
But it also admits that the average Bolt EV owner covers just 53 miles per day in their
car, something that will make hardened EV fans laugh, since they've been telling us
that 100-mile electric cars have been suitable for the needs of 95 percent of the population
for years.
Still, I guess that extra hundred and eighty-five miles is useful for long-distance trips right?
I mean, that's why I'd buy a longer-range car (and probably will at some point).
While most of us will likely stay buying plug-in cars for some time, Alphabet's self-driving
arm Waymo has just launched a new program in Phoenix, Arizona which not only previews
the day when we may not be owning our own cars but also not driving them.
The first-ever public trail of its fully-autonomous vehicle program, Waymo is inviting residents
in the greater Phoenix metro area, including Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe and Mesa, to sign
up to become "early riders" in its autonomous vehicle program.
With five hundred cars -- and five hundred trailed 'drivers' monitoring the vehicles
at all times, it's a great way to experience autonomous vehicles first hand -- and to get
a free ride, because there's no charge to take part.

Back to Tesla now with four quick updates regarding Model 3.
At the start of this week Tesla announced it would be doubling the number of Supercharger
stations around the world in preparation for Model 3's launch, expanding existing sites
and building new ones, with some sites primed to get several dozen stalls each.
It's been met with applause from most Tesla owners, but Roadster owners are begging Tesla
not to leave them behind as they still have to rely on the old 80-amp, 240-volt Tesla
charge stations that are becoming increasingly rare.
Along with expanding its Supercharger network, Tesla says sales and service will grow too,
and has just made the training and approval process to become an authorized Tesla repair
center cheaper and quicker, something which should help those Tesla owners who have found
themselves waiting weeks for accident repairs.
Finally, Tesla has taken delivery of the first batch of Model 3-destined robotic production
equipment, and has smoothed out threats of industrial action at its recently-acquired
Grohmann engineering in Germany, where a lot of the Tesla model 3 production equipment
will be made, by offering the 700-or so staff there a substantial pay rise.
Essentially, Tesla is oiling the wheels to make sure everything goes according to plan
when Model 3 launches this year, something that absolutely must go without a hitch.
All I can say is that I'm glad I don't' work at Tesla right now.
I'm sure there's more stress than a little…
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and in this case, Tesla should be
very flattered -- because Audi has just opened up reservations in Norway for the e-tron quattro
electric SUV, long before it's even announced official pricing.
To join the queue to buy one, customers have to put down twenty-thousand kroner (just under
three-thousand U.S. dollars), and then wait until next year for the car to actually enter
production.
Yes, this is very Tesla (right down to the not-announcing final specifications or pricing)
but actually, while people think of Tesla as pioneering that technique, I want to remind
everyone that Nissan and Chevy both offered online reservations way back in twenty ten
for the Nissan LEAF and Chevy Volt… so maybe it's just the EV thing.
*shrug*
On this show, you'll know I'll cover anything that's cleaner, greener, safer and smarter.
And while this next story certainly ticks two of the boxes, I'm not sure about the
other two.
Because this is the Flyer, a flying vehicle that's a cross between a water ski, a hoverboard
and well, a quad bike.
Powered by an all-electric drive system, this one-seat, propeller-driven flying bike is
the first vehicle to come from Kitty Hawk, a startup backed by Google's Larry Page
which has just come out of stealth.
Eventually, the company wants to build a fully-working flying car, but for now, it'll sell you
the Flyer from the end of this year.
It looks ...fun to fly, and I'm not sure about the learning curve, but as to its safety?
Well, if you've ever crashed a drone I think you'll get my concerns.
Still, it's cool… and I want a go.
What about you?
For some time now, it's been no secret that Tesla electric cars -- especially Model S
and Model X -- retain their value as they age, with very little depreciation compared
to other cars of any fuel type.
But this week we learned via Autolist that Tesla Model S cars sell far quicker than the
competition in the used car marketplace, with the average used Model S selling in 87 days
-- about five percent quicker than other competing vehicles.
What's more, the listing prices for Model S sedans were between three and five percent
more than their competitors in the used car marketplace.
And that's just helping to push Tesla shares even higher as investors grow in confidence
that Tesla -- and its cars -- are a good deal.
From cars now to how they're powered.
Or rather, how they're not powered.
You see, last Friday, for the first time since the Industrial revolution, not a single piece
of coal was used to power the UK for an entire twenty-four hours.
Over the past few years, burning coal for electricity generation has dramatically dwindled
in my home country, replaced by cleaner (although still emissions-producing) natural gas, increased
renewable energy, and increased nuclear power.
While it's a good shift toward cleaner power, the UK -- like the rest of the world -- needs
to make sure that it doesn't replace coal-powered electricity with other fossil-fueled electricity.
Instead, a continued investment in distributed renewable energy and products like the Tesla
powerwall will make the biggest impact.
Let's hope things go in the right way moving forward.
Back in the noughties, before cars like the Nissan LEAF even came to market, BMW's MINI
brand produced limited-numbers of the MINI-E, a two-seat, all-electric conversion of MINI
Cooper.
But despite this, BMW hasn't yet produced a production electric MINI that you can buy.
And while late last year MINI confirmed an all-electric production model was coming -- in
addition to the recently-launched MINI Countryman plug-in hybrid -- some question remained as
to what an all-electric MINi would be like.
Well this week, we've heard confirmation that MINI bosses want an all-electric MINI
to be one of its brand 'Superheros' -- a mainstream model that not only represents
the brand as a whole but entices new customers in.
Something that's not a compliance car but rather a fully-fledged, well-engineered electric
MINI that will sell just as well as the rest of the range.
Sadly there are no more details at present, but I for one can't wait to see what this
model will turn out like.
And finally,
If you've ever spent any time with the Nissan LEAF, you'll know it's a very competent
electric car which, with some help from a decent DC quick charging network, can be used
to make some pretty successful long-distance trips along major routes.
But the guys at Plug in Adventures are about to do something completely different with
a lightly modified Nissan LEAF.
Take part in the ten thousand mile Mongol Rally from the UK to Mongolia.
With the rear seats stripped out, the suspension raised, a special adventure light bar, heavy-duty
roof rack and the car wearing some chunkier rally tyres, the LEAF -- dubbed AT-EV -- will
be tackling some of the toughest rally conditions possible on this endurance event, just to
prove that electric vehicle travel is only as difficult as you make it.

Big Pharma and Organized Crime � They Are More Similar Than You May Think

�It is scary how many similarities there are between this [pharmaceutical] industry
and the mob. The mob makes obscene amounts of money, as does this industry. The side
effects of organized crime are killings and deaths, and the side effects are the same
in this industry. The mob bribes politicians and others, and so does the drug industry
�� ~ former Vice-President of Pfizer pharmaceuticals �
If you believe pharmaceutical corporations hold the health of the general public in high
regard, it�s time to reconsider. The industry is filled with examples of wrongful death,
extortion, fraud, corruption, obstruction of justice, embezzlement, fake journals, harassment
and hit lists that would make even the most hardened Mafia godfather blush. Big Pharma
has been fined billions by the U.S. Department of Justice, but these enormous fines don�t
curb the corruption, it�s just looked upon as �the cost of doing business,� similar
to paying the utilities.
As a physician and researcher, Peter C G�tzsche has firsthand experience with the criminality
behind the pharmaceutical industry � and subsequently exposed the massive fraud in
�Deadly Medicines and Organized Crime: How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Healthcare.�
Dangerous Science
Dr. G�tzsche has an impressive clinical background, as noted by The Nordic Cochrane
Center � a not-for-profit organization that produces credible, accessible health information
that is free from commercial sponsorship and other conflicts of interest:
Professor Peter C G�tzsche graduated as a Master of Science in biology and chemistry
in 1974 and as a physician 1984. He is a specialist in internal medicine; worked with clinical
trials and regulatory affairs in the drug industry 1975-1983, and at hospitals in Copenhagen
1984-95. With about 80 others, he helped start The Cochrane Collaboration in 1993 with the
founder, Sir Iain Chalmers, and established The Nordic Cochrane Centre the same year.
He became professor of Clinical Research Design and Analysis in 2010 at the University of
Copenhagen.
Peter has published more than 70 papers in �the big five� (BMJ, Lancet, JAMA, Ann
Intern Med and N Engl J Med) and his scientific works have been cited over 15,000 times. Peter
is also author of:
Deadly Psychiatry and Organized Denial (to appear in September 2015)
Deadly Medicines and Organized Crime: How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Healthcare (2013)
Mammography Screening: Truth, Lies and Controversy (2012)
Rational Diagnosis and Treatment: Evidence-Based Clinical Decision-Making (2007)
A large part of Dr. G�tzsche�s academic career has focused on bias, trials and evidence
synthesis.
In �Deadly Medicines and Organized Crime,� G�tzsche reveals the corruption behind exorbitant
prices for branded drugs, bringing attention to the fact that drugs are not expensive because
of development costs, but because of the political lobbying, marketing and excess profit taking.
He also points out many trials are nothing more than smoke and mirrors, where pharmaceutical
companies organize research in such a way that the best populations and comparison groups
are selected for the very reason that they support the preferred outcome of the company;
they control data and do analyses in-house and hire professional writers to write the
papers. The pharmaceutical companies then cherry pick the results to suit their marketing
needs, instead of what�s in the best interest of patients. Many times, academics are paid
to be listed as contributors to the study, yet in reality, they had very little input
and cannot substantiate the data. According to G�tzsche, �The �best� drugs may
simply be those with the most shamelessly biased data.�
Moreover, G�tzsche drives home the truth that pharmaceuticals are just plain dangerous
for a variety of reasons:
�Our prescription drugs are the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer
in the United States and Europe. Around half of those who die have taken their drugs correctly;
the other half die because of errors, such as too high a dose or use of a drug despite
contraindications. Our drug agencies are not particularly helpful, as they rely on fake
fixes, which are a long list of warnings, precautions, and contraindications for each
drug, although they know that no doctor can possibly master all of these. Major reasons
for the many drug deaths are impotent drug regulation, widespread crime that includes
corruption of the scientific evidence about drugs and bribery of doctors, and lies in
drug marketing, which is as harmful as tobacco marketing and, therefore, should be banned.
We should take far fewer drugs, and patients should carefully study the package inserts
of the drugs their doctors prescribe for them and independent information sources about
drugs such as Cochrane reviews, which will make it easier for them to say �no thanks�.�
Before you shrug-off G�tzsche�s argument as simply one man�s view on a complex issue,
consider pharmaceutical giant Merck�s tainted history.
Hit Lists, Fake Journals, Harassment and Big Money
During testimony in an Australian class action case, emails between Merck employees presented
labels such as �neutralize,� �neutralized,� or �discredit� next to doctors� names
who criticized the drug Vioxx.
One email said:
�We may need to seek them out and destroy them where they live ��
The court was told James Fries, professor of Medicine at Stanford University, wrote
to the head of Merck in October 2000, complaining about the harassment certain members of his
team were receiving who had criticized the drug.
�Even worse were allegations of Merck damage control by intimidation,� he wrote, � �This
has happened to at least eight (clinical) investigators � I suppose I was mildly threatened
myself but I never have spoken or written on these issues.�
Jump to 2001 and the company was still engaging in unethical tactics. Merck apparently:
Produced a fake �peer reviewed� journal under the name of �Australasian Journal
of Bone and Joint Medicine� for the sole purpose of marketing pro-Vioxx articles.

it, even though a Merck employee felt the data presented was �wishful thinking.�
With this three-ring circus of corruption projected to become worse in the future, the
American Medical Association (AMA) has � right on cue � brought forward new guidelines
which will essentially place a gag order on any physicians who do not tow the party line,
including those who speak out against pharmaceuticals.
�There�s a great deal of dissent among medical professionals when it comes to natural
health, and many refuse to entertain the idea that healing involves more than pharmaceutical
chemicals. The American Medical Association has recently set forth new guidelines that
will: �create ethical guidelines for physicians in the media, write a report on how doctors
may be disciplined for violating medical ethics through their press involvement, and release
a public statement denouncing the dissemination of dubious medical information through the
radio, TV, newspapers, or websites,�� said Dr. Edward Group, founder of the Global
Healing Center. Incredibly, the AMA represents only 17% of
medical doctors, many of which are medical students who were given a free membership.
And yet, the organization is the fifth most powerful special interest group on Capitol
Hill, paying out a staggering $19.7 million for lobbying efforts in 2014 alone.

This week, rumors are swirling that the Murdochs are planning a major shakeup at Fox that will

Now, insiders are saying that if Shine is fired, Sean Hannity will walk as well.
"Sean is willing to take a bullet for Bill out of loyalty and he knows he's holding
a lot of chits there right now too," a source said, according to Deadline.
"If he threatens to leave, and he could, then that really could be the end of the place
as we know it."
That last part is a quote from a tweet of Hannity's that he posted this week.
"Gabe, i pray this is NOT true because if it is, that's the total end of the FNC as
we know it.
Done," Hannity wrote.
Gabriel Sherman wrote a piece for the New York Magazine indicating that Shine asked
Rupert Murdoch's sons, James and Lachlan, to issue a statement of support for him, but
they refused.
He also said that Shine himself feels like he is about to be fired.
A source with Fox said that Shine has complained that Rupert "isn't fighting for him"
in the press, which is why he wanted explicit support from the sons.
Hannity, however, has publicly stood by Shine.

A few weeks ago, we reported that Florida Representative Corrine Brown, an ally of Barack
Obama's, had been arrested and was facing 357 years in prison for various corruption
charges.
This week, her trial began, and things have already gotten very interesting.
Bizpac Review reported that prosecutors say Brown took money from a charitable foundation
for poor children and instead used it to pay for concert tickets and Beverly Hills shopping
sprees.
Brown, who was the Democratic representative from Florida's 5th congressional district
from 2013-2017, is facing multiple fraud and conspiracy charges for allegedly funneling
contributions from the scholarship charity she started, One Door for Education, to her
personal bank accounts.
Federal attorneys opened their case against her on Wednesday.
In his opening statement, Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Tysen Duva explained that Brown and two
close associates raised more than $800,000, much of which they transferred to their personal
account, between 2012 and 2016.
The three then spent this money on vacations, luxury goods and tickets to a Beyonce concert,
among other expenses.
"She knew exactly how to lie to these donors, and knew exactly where the cash money was
going," Duva said.
Brown's defense attorneys have claimed that she had no idea what was going on and that
she was swindled by her former chief of staff, Elias "Ronnie" Simmons.
Defense counsel James Smith alleged that she did not even know how to text or email, meaning
she could not have been responsible for generating the emails cited by the prosecution as evidence
of collusion.
However, it seems that nobody is buying this, and things aren't looking good for Brown.
Both Simmons and Carla Wiley, the former president of One Door, have pleaded guilty to charges
related to this case and will likely testify against their former boss.

Professor Wright believes that the growing field of space archaeology could help to reveal
clues of the ancient aliens.

�Perhaps more likely, imagery and subsurface radar used to study the geology of planetary

So it appears that some of the worlds top scientists are now on to something. But with
any positive and exciting news such as this always comes a level of negativity.
Lucianne Walkowicz, an astrophysicist at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, warned in February
that making contact with aliens could be catastrophic for the human race � we have all hear this
before!
�There�s a possibility that if we actively message, with the intention of getting the
attention of an intelligent civilization, that the civilization we contact would not
necessarily have our best interests in mind,� she said..
�On the other hand, there might be great benefits.
�It could be something that ends life on Earth, and it might be something that accelerates
the ability to live quality lives on Earth.
�We have no way of knowing.�

Well it appears that the drip feeding of disclosure is intensifying! There was a time when Scientists
would have been laughed at for coming out with such claims about advanced alien beings!

So if you are using them currently, listen up.
End screens are the mobile friendly YouTube switch from annotations.
They can only be added to videos that are at least 25 seconds because they are only
added to the last :20s of a video.
You're allowed up to 4 card elements and take note of the box of "okay area" to
place the card.
You're going to want to keep this in mind as you're in production and editing to keep
some space for these elements.

LaVar Ball Just Cost His Son Millions With Nike, Adidas & Under Armour - Duration: 3:00.
For Complex News, I'm Pierce Simpson // The upcoming NBA Draft is regarded as being one
of the strongest drafts in recent memory.
In fact, plenty of teams spent the second half of the season "resting" players and blatantly
losing in order to improve their lottery chances (0:18-0:22/VO)-- and boost their fortune at
receiving a franchise changing player.
One of those players happens to be Lonzo Ball, who took home national freshman of the year
honors and helped lead his UCLA Bruins to a Sweet 16 appearance before entering his
name in this year's draft(0:26-0:30/VO).
Plenty of experts have him ranked as one of the Top 3 players available -- but listening
to Lonzo himself; you'd never know it.
However, while Lonzo may come across as humble -- his father, LaVar Ball has enough damn
confidence to make Charles Barkley seem bashful.
LaVar has compared his son to Magic Johnson, floated the idea that he's better than Stephen
Curry and recently attributed UCLA's loss in the tournament to Lonzo's "white teammates".
Aside from the racially insensitive remarks and idiotic basketball commentary -- LaVar
has made bigger headlines for his desire to get his sons a "billion dollar" sneaker deal.
In essence, LaVar is looking to license the Big Baller Brand, and create a co-partnership
with a sneaker brand.
This type of deal would also open the door for more money and the opportunity for his
two younger sons, LiAngelo & LaMelo to be apart of the plan.
Initially, it seemed like various sneaker brands were interested in making Lonzo a member
of their plans -- but today, ESPN's Darren Rovell dropped a bombshell that reports Nike,
adidas and Under Armour no longer have interest in Ball after meeting with the point guard
and his father.
ESPN also reports, that LaVar is still looking for a co-partnership and even pitched prototype
sketches of a "Lonzo Ball Shoe".
In fact, LaVar kept things honest when expressing his thought process when it comes to sneaker
deals.
"We've said from the beginning, we aren't looking for an endorsement deal.
We're looking for co-branding, a true partner.
But they're not ready for that because they're not used to that model.
But hey, the taxi industry wasn't ready for Uber, either."
LaVar also mentioned NBA All-Star Paul George... and his struggle of having to wait for a signature
shoe.
"We're not going to sign with a company and then wait around for five or six years for
a shoe like Paul George had to wait for with Nike."
This news sent shockwaves throughout social media, with a variety of pundits weighing-in
on the potential L that it seems like Lonzo Ball is having to take on behalf of his father.
Of course, in typical Twitter fashion... the memes started to arrive in droves.
Aside from the jokes and commentary, it's obvious that the landscape may be changing
when it comes to endorsement deals and prospective talent feeling empowered to go more of the
independent route.
As our Russ Bengston suggests, LaVar's pioneer approach should be commended...However, LaVar
may be oversimplifying the process of selling sneakers.
"there's a difference between producing, say, music, than there is producing viable
basketball shoes.
Master P selling CDs out of his trunk and making millions is one thing; Master P selling
sneakers was quite another.
A company like Nike spends untold millions on R&D and marketing.
Millions that—even without looking at financial statements—Big Baller Brand presumably doesn't
have."
For now, LaVar and Lonzo will look to turn their interest towards Chinese brands like
Li-Ning, who may not even be interested -- but to be honest, it's still early in the process
and we've seen negotiations turn around.
However, it's obvious that LaVar Ball may need to reign-in his expectations and allow
his son carve his own path; and hopefully achieve the lofty expectations NBA Gms have
for him...
It's never a good look when top-tier sneaker executives consider LaVar to be the worst
thing to happen in basketball this past century.
