In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful..
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
and salat and Salam and blessings from Allah upon His servant and messenger Muhammad..
and upon his family and companions.. then.
My brothers,
You know that ablution [Wado'a] is an introduction to come to Allah, Almighty.
thereby you are pure from outside..
So, what is left to do?
Is to purify your interior..
and Wado'a does that too!
And if the slave is clean from all what the King doesn't like..
then, he can meet the King.
Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah put mercy upon him, said in the book of [Runways to successfully go along]:
'If the servant is to meets his Lord, at Resurrection Day..
before being completely pure.. i.e. from sins..
he will not be allowed to enter!..
before being pure..
also at Dunya, he is not allowed to meet Allah, at Salat, except after purification.'
That was what he said, may Allah put mercy upon him.
So..
Let's think about the Dua'a that is to be said after Wado'a..
it is..
'Allahumma, make me among repentant people and among the pure people.'
Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him and please him, said:
The messenger of Allah, SAW, said:
' That who makes Wado'a properly, all his mistakes will come out of his body even from underneath his fingernails.'
Another narration, by Abu-Hurairah; that they keep coming out till the last drop of water..
Amazing!
In preparation to meet the King!
The amazing thing is that; these mistakes come out from each organ as it is related!
Again, Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him and please him,
He asked to be given water..
And after he did Wado'a, he laughed!
then he said to his companions; 'won't you ask me why I'm laughing?'
They said; 'What is making you laugh, Ameer of believers?'
He said: 'I saw the messenger of Allah, SAW, did his Wado'a..
as I did, then he laughed..
then he asked; 'won't you ask me why I'm laughing?'
They said; 'What is making you laugh, messenger of Allah?'
He said: 'When the servant says Dua'a, while he is doing Wado'a..
So, while washing his face, Allah would erase all the mistakes that he did related to his face..
and on washing his arms..
same thing will happen..
and on purifying his feet..
same thing will happen.'.. [Narrated by Ahmad, and said, true Hadith by Al-Albani.].
According to the mistakes in each organ.
mistakes done by using the face; as looking at what is forbidden to look at.
the mistakes of the face come out with washing the face.
of the hands.. come with washing them.. and so on.
So, when you begin your Wado'a, observe the coming out of these mistakes with water..as if you are seeing them!
with your own eyes!!
with expecting goodness from your Lord, that He will erase them.. with expecting to have His Mercy.
As we've said before about; Raja'a[good expectation with certainty].. same thing..
Abu-Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him, said that the messenger of Allah, SAW, said:
'Do you want me to tell you things that Allah erases mistakes with them, and elevates to higher levels?'
They said; Sure, messenger of Allah..
He said; 'to properly cover Wado'a sites with water, though, it discomforts you.'
Notice this statement!.. 'to properly cover Wado'a sites with water, though, it discomforts you.'
i.e. to use much enough water when the situation is not easy to use water..
As hating to use water when it is cold..
or it is extra hot..
Now, you use it!
Doing this, Allah will erase your mistakes..
Now, we are at a higher level and more mistakes are erased..
He said: '.. and many walking steps to the Masjids..
and waiting for the next Salat after Salat..
That's Ar-Ribat, That's Ar-Ribat, That's Ar-Ribat.'. [i.e. the deal by which the soul is controlled.].
Narrated by Muslim.
In fact..
man can reach by Wado'a to astonishing levels..
to a stage where no mistakes are left on him!
Wado'a is amazing!!
Once, Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, he did his Wado'a..
then he said:
'I saw the messenger of Allah, SAW, did Wado'a like the one I did now, then..
he said; ' Anyone who does wado'a like this..
.. all his previous mistakes will be forgiven!.
Is that all about this Hadith?.. No!
.. and his Salat and all his walking steps to Masjids, were [Nafilah]!.'
What is the meaning of [Nafilah]; Ibn Rajab, may Allah put mercy upon him, he said; ' that they are extra good deeds for him!.'
because the Wado'a has erased all the mistakes, so, now Salat is extra.
as no mistakes are left! to be erased by Salat..
So, Salat rewards will be additional..
Do you want more?!
Someone might say; OK.
Good..
I can do all what I like to do from mistakes and sins..
and do proper Wado'a before every Salat.
NO!
Now you are trying bluffing Allah!
He gave you from His Mercy..
Don't face this with deception.
because if you deceit Allah, Allah will have a plan for you.
Allah, Almighty said: "But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners."
Do you know how can He trick you? He doesn't give you the benefits of this Hadith!
Simply, you do not get the advantage of your Wado'a.
Bluffing.. Don't !!
don't try this with your Lord.
Because, Allah knows all your secrets and what you declare.. and what are you thinking of?
Allah, Almighty said:
"Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. "
Wado'a abolishes the mistakes of those who deserve it!
Not only that.. even more than that..
Allah gives you more..
Usually, when a servant is to meet kings..
he gets well-dressed and try to look neat..
Wado'a, does that for you!
The messenger of Allah, SAW, said:
the neatness of the believer is marked by the limits to where his Wado'a extends..
Where are the limits of Wado'a, on the extremities?
Up to there your beauty will extends!
But, what is this neatness exactly?
It is explained in the Hadith.. Listen!
Abu-Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him, said:
'the messenger of Allah, SAW, was passing by a cemetery, he said:
'Peace be upon you, believers in this place..
and by the will of Allah, we will be with you soon.'
Then, he, SAW, said:
'I wished if we could see our brothers..
and the companions were with him!
they said; 'Aren't we your brothers, messenger of Allah?'
he said; 'you are my companions..
Our brothers didn't come yet!'
We are his brothers, may Salat and Salam from my Lord be upon him.
Then the companions asked the prophet, SAW a very nice question?
And as usual, the companions always ask the right question.
They said; How would you know those who didn't come yet from your Ummah, messenger of Allah?!
how can you recognize them?!
Listen to this example.. He,SAW, said:
'Suppose there is a man, he has horses that are naturally marked white on the forehead[Ghorlan] and white-footed[Muhajaleen]..
and they were with horses that are totally black..[Duhman Buhman]..
[Duhm Buhm] means black, or have single color.
He said; 'won't he distinguish his horses?'
First let me explain [Ghorlan] and [Muhajaleen]
OK.
Al-Ghurah is the whitish coloration of the forehead of the horse..
And Al-Tahjeel is the whitish coloration at its extremities..
Look at these photos..
This how [Ghorah] looks like..
we call this; Ghorah of the horse..
and we call this at the feet.. Tahjeel.
So, they said: 'Of course, messenger of Allah.'
Anyone would know his horses if they are marked like this..
He said; 'They come Ghorlan Muhajaleen as an effect of their Wado'a!'
'And I'm [Faratahum] at [Al-Haud].'
i.e. and I'm ahead of them, waiting, at The Fountain.
may Salat and Salam from my Lord be upon him.
i.e He will recognize us as we have this decoration..
This is [Al-Hiliah]; the beautiful decoration.
Actually, with Wodo'a you will reach levels that have never came to your mind!
Never..
To a place that is very high..
One morning, the messenger of Allah, SAW,..
he called Bilal..
He said: 'O Bilal..
What did you do that you were in front of me to Jannah?!
Last night I entered into Jannah..
then, I heard the sound of your steps in front of me..
[Kh'shKha'sha] is a sound due to movement.
Of, course, this is not because Bilal is better than the prophet, SAW,
But, he was walking with him, as he serves him..
As the case when servants come in front of their users to serve them.. something like that..
He said: 'O Bilal.. What did you do that you were in front of me to Jannah?!
Then Bilal said: 'O messenger of Allah..
every time I call Adhan, I pray two Rakat.. and every time my Wado'a becomes invalid..'
i.e.abolished!
'.. and every time an event abolishes my Wado'a, I refresh it at the spot.'
People of knowledge said that the prophet, SAW, told him his vision..
to make his heart feels good..
and to keep on doing that good deed..
and to motivate audience.
And now, we are hearing the Hadith, so let's apply it!
My honorable brother..
My honorable sister..
If you could feel these Hadiths while performing Wado'a..
then your Wado'a will be very much.. and more beautiful..
than doing it without feeling this favor..
When you do Wado'a, try to bring this to your mind!
This advantage wasn't mentioned by the prophet, SAW, for no reason.. never!
Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah put mercy upon him, said in the book of [Runways to successfully go along]:
Love gets rid of whispers.. Obsession.
Obsession, is like a shadow, if you follow it, it runs from you..
and if you run away from it.. it follows you!
My brothers, this point doesn't concern people with obsession only..
even, people who are not within this circle..
Shaytan can start with them..
take care all people..
Do you know, when does Shaytan begin this with them..?
I will expose his key to you.. this malicious!
He begins one time..
accidentally once..
he brings you doubts, and says;
What.. is it complete.. is it not.. your Wado'a??!!
Repeat it, just to be sure!!
Next time, he adds more..
then, he adds more after that..
more.. and more..
finally, you are a different person!
So, watch for the fraud of Iblis.
be careful!
He couldn't..
make you leave praying Salat..
or leave Wado'a..
What did he do to you?
he made you hate it!
So, don't listen to him.
Let's move to another favor..
don't miss it..
it is Sewak[tooth brushing].
The prophet, SAW, said:
'If it wasn't hard to do, for my Ummah, I would have ordered them to do Wado'a before each Salat and to do Sewak every time they do Wado'a.'
Narrated by Imam Ahmad.
And the prophet, SAW, said:
'If it wasn't hard to do, for my Ummah, I would have ordered them to do Sewak with every Salat.'
Anas said that the prophet, SAW, said:
'I've stressed on you too much about Sewak.'
Ibn Rajab said;
i.e. he has given the subject a special emphasis.. to motivate you..
by showing you its advantage.
And Sewak makes the mouth scented
So, your mouth is scented because you are to meet Allah..
Next, a person must cover the private aspects of his body that is to be covered[Aurat]..
before starting Salat.
because this is a prerequisite for Salat.
Even this point, it needs reflection upon..
thinking about it.
please reflect upon this!
When you cover your [Aurat] not to be seen by others..
remember that Allah has covered also your faults not to be seen by others!
I mean, think about this matter..
How Allah protects your confidentiality..
hiding us not to be viewed..
So, do something extra..
Not only wearing what covers [Aurat].. but go to a higher level, that is adorning oneself to be more pleasing and beautiful.. in front of Allah.
be beautiful for the sake of Allah..
Many people, when they are going to an event..
or out to eat.. to a banquet..
or to an important occasion.. So, he will dress nicely..
because when the lover is to meet the beloved..
he would be will prepared..
So, when you change..
your feelings.. and what you think about Allah, Almighty..
for sure..
all your actions will change spontaneously!
And this applies to many issues..
OK.
After that..
You've covered your body [Aurat]
Next action.. is facing Qiblah [Direction of Makkah]
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
How can the Salat of a person be correct, if he faces Qiblah with his body and his heart is away from the Lord of Qiblah?
See.. the problem is that we face Qiblah with our body..
not thinking about the Lord if Qiblah!
with our hearts!
All of these were preparations before..
beginning by Takberat Al-Ihram,[ first saying; Allah The Great]
And also, before we begin, you need to be specifically prepared..
That is, first, change your view about Salat..
You.. why do you pray?
Is it only because it is Fard[a decree]?!
This is a deficient view!
.. incomplete!
intend to do Salat because it is a pleasure.. a comfort..
some people pray because they want to finish doing Fard
i.e. they pray because they must pray!
No.. who said that?!.. you don't pray because you must.
Don't pray only because it is Haram not to pray.. No..never..
Pray because you love to pray..
not because you want to finish doing it.
Some people pray to fulfill a commitment..
Submission [Khushu'a] is far from this person.
because, he wants to finish..
'So as to have comfort, we pray before we go..!' to be at ease!!
He feels that Salat is like a burden!
and he must do it.. 'let me finish it!'
NO!
Change your concept..
then your Salat will change for sure.
each nation.. all people have their practices for relaxing.. and having comfort!
how to ease souls..
For example, people in the West, they use music and similar means to relax..
And people in Far East, they do meditation, Yoga and so, to relax!
I seek refuge with Allah, people at some other places, they only relax with booze..
We ask Allah to save us!
And for us..
What has Allah given us to feel calm and to relax?
Why don't we use that is given to us from Allah?
OK. What is that?
What do we have..?
It is Salat!!
So, the prophet, SAW, was used to say to Bilal..
'Call for Iqmah of Salat.. let it brings us comfort!'
The prophet, SAW, was used to feel comfortable with Salat.
He used it to relax.. with Allah..
And when He, SAW, was faced by an important situation..
he prays!
i.e. when he is feeling sad..
feeling gloomy.
then he, SAW, will stand to do Salat.
We need assistance in any form to do anything..
except when doing Salat..
you use it to assist you!
Allah, Almighty, said:
"And seek help through patience and prayer.. "
".. and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah ]"
I want you.. all audience..
to change your views about Salat.
You need to prepare yourself before entering Salat in Submission..
so as to feel submissive!
have a prelude for your Salat.
And Allah has taught us how to make this introduction!
Prepare yourself at the time of Adhan..
don't wait till calling for Iqamah..
And do Wado'a before each Salat..
every time.. even if you were in Wado'a that is valid..
to have your face brighter..
and to lessen your mistakes..
then, prepare yourself for the main Salat, by praying two Raka'at..
that are nice..
read in them verses that are new to you..
not the usual verses that you memorize..
Then proceed on.. by reading from the Book of Allah, Almighty,
to be ready to read the great recitation..
during Salat..
and that is reading Al-Fatihah.
And when you are at Masjid, be careful to maintain the lines of the prayers straight..
And certainly, the person at the front line is more capable of submission..
and so on as we go to back lines..
And before you begin Salat, ask yourself certain questions..
talk to yourself..
What am I doing now?
Subhan Allah, when you are to pray..
and you prepare yourself the proper way..
then.. you will..
really..
wake up!!
What am I doing now?
What.. exactly!!
I did Wado'a.. put on my clothes.. stood facing Qiblah.. What is next?!
Whom am I going to meet?
Who is going to talk to me after a while?
These feelings..
If you could have them..
For sure, you will be in a different orientation!
Your confidence will increase.. and your belief also..
Don't pray behind a person who is sleeping or who is talking.
Because, the prophet, SAW, prohibited us from doing so..
Close your cell phone..
or at least keep it at the silent mode..
anyway, you will not answer it as you are praying Salat!
My honorable brother, you must do some preliminary steps..
You must be prepared..
Because, great matters need to be preceded by major preparations..
a great start to meet Allah..
that will transfer you from one state to another!
from one world to another world..
What is that?.. Takbirat Al-Ihram[ the first].. [Allah The Great].
To start with, nothing to be said before; Takbirat Al-Ihram
Before we begin.. let's agree that we are to say nothing before Takbirat Al-Ihram
As; [We heard and we Obey], [Allahumma make our standing in front of your Hands good] before Takbeer..
And as; [It is true that no Ilah except Allah] after hearing Iqamah in Masjid or any where else.
No, we don't say any of these!
And also, don't say your intention in words!
As; [ I intend to do Salat Asr in Jama'a.. or.. on its time.]
We only do as our prophet, SAW, did his Salat.
He said: 'Pray as you've seen me pray.'
the things that he didn't do, we do not do them too.
We neither add to his Salat nor we cut from it!
"There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern"
So, Why do we begin with Takbeer?
Why not with Tasbeeh[ glorifying]?
Or with Tahleel[ No Ilah only Allah]?
Or Tahmeed [ praising]?.. for instance!
Takbeer, makes the heart attentive.
Because, when the servant..
reminds himself that Allah is Greater..
Greater than everything..
so, how would he think about things other than Him?!
What is the meaning of Allahu Akbar?
It means that Allah is Greater.. Superior.. more eligible to think about.. more than anything else in this Dunyah
He is Great, so that when those who are in Heavens and Earth worship Him..
they aim to admit His Sublimity and Glory.
Notice that; Takbeer is fundamental in the major rituals
As with Salat.. Adhan.. Hajj..
when stones are thrown, we say; Allahu Akbar with each hitting with the stone.
Even at Eid, after Hajj.. we say Takbeer..
And at Eid after Ramadan.. also.
Allah, Almighty, said after the verse that is about Ramadan, the only verse in Qur'an:
"and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful."
Have you noticed this?
So, Takbeer is an announcement that is appointed by Allah, Almighty,..
And here, it is to begin with meeting of the Entirely Merciful, Glorified His Grandeur.
Allah is Greater.. than the gob issues that you are thinking of..
Allah is Greater.. than the meal that you are planning to have..
Allah is Greater.. than the house that you are building..
Allah is Greater.. Allah is Greater..
And if you were afraid of an unjust person.. Allah is Greater..
And if you struggled in Dunyah.. Allah is Greater..
Allah is Greater than everything.
Allah is Greater.. till your heart is free from everything other than your Lord, the Greater!
That is the reason why at every part of the Salat, Allah reminds us again and again!
So that you do not lose focus.
You say; Allah is Great, before Raku'a[ bending down]..
And you say; Allah is Great, before Sujood..
And you say; Allah is Great, between the two Sujoods..
Ha!!.. attention!!..
Allah is Great, it draws your attention, not to lose focus.
pay attention.. ha!.. Allah is Greater.
Only at one occasion!
we do not say Allahu Akbar, When?
Yes, when we rise up from Raku'a..
We say; Sami'a Allahu liman Hamida..[Allah hears who praises Him]
Why?!
there is a secret her and I'll tell you about it when we come to Raku'a.. In'sha Allah!
How do we do Takbeer?
You say; Allahu Akbar..
But there are wrong ways of saying Takbeer!
Some people extend the voice with the letters [Kaf & Ba]
This way...... which is not the correct pronunciation!
and this will give a wrong meaning that is not right to do.
So, the correct way of pronouncing it is as [Allahu Akbar].
Others may say; Allawakbar!
they substitute [Wa letter] for the [Hamzat of Alif].
linguistically this is correct, and Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allah put mercy upon him, he agrees with it.
But, the most preferred and the most perfect way of saying it is; [Allahu Akbar]
without substituting letters..
How to lift the hands with it?
The prophet, SAW, was used to raise his hands..
with the fingers are extended..
and they are neither separated apart, nor tightly put together..
But, like this.. while lifting them Up.
And he raises them at the same time when saying Takbeer.. sometimes after it.. and sometimes before it.
How?.. look!
Now, I'll lift the hands up before Takbeer..
before saying thakbeer..
[Allahu Akbar]
This is the first method of doing it..
as was done by the prophet, SAW,
The second method..
with Takbeer..
[Allahu Akbar]
Did you see.. at the same moment!
lifting with saying!
The third method..
After Takbeer.. saying then lifting the hands up
[Allahu Akbar]
This was documented.. this was documented.. and this was documented.. as correct!
But, how high to lift up the hands?
up to the level of his shoulders.
Up to here.. these are the shoulders.. he lifts the hand up to here.. like this!
Facing Qiblah.. with extended fingers.. together, but not separated or tight.. like this!
He may also raise them up to the level of his ears.. up to here..
here are the ears.. up to here..
You may ask me, which way am I to do?
This way.. or that way!!
We say; you do one way.. then next time you do the other way.. and so on!
Diversify your ways each time you pray.
Because all of these methods were narrated as done by the messenger of Allah, SAW.
Learn that, variating between these methods as the prophet, SAW, did, will give you a very big push towards submission [Khushu'a]
How?
Because, if you stick to one method, and you keep doing it always.. then you'll end up doing it automatically.. routinely..
Always repeating the same method!
never change it!
Many people, when they come to pray.. as if they are driving a car!
as they drive the car spontaneously..
when signaling to turn.. or when changing the gear..
They do not need to focus while doing these actions, because they do them repeatedly every day!
so they act automatically without thinking!
And this is how his Salat will be, if he didn't do something about it.
When he begins his Salat.. as if he opens a document in the computer!
he gets all the information from the file.. then he closes it!
Allahu Akbar.. "[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds..The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.. Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.".. Allahu Akbar..
[Allah hears who praises Him]
then he says Adkhar.. that's it!!
.. then.. last Tashahud!!
Then he will say; Alhamdulillah, I did Salat.. ..!!
Is the purpose of Salat is to make you exercise your muscles?!.. NO!!
But, if you vary the actions of Salat.. sometimes; this method.. other times; that method..
As in Takbeer.. to the level of the shoulders at one time.. other times up to here.. before.. with.. after..
And so on.. because, doing them the same way all the time will make you lose focusing!
Subhan Allah, The Wise.. He taught the prophet, SAW, different ways to perform Salat..
So that, his Ummah can enjoy a higher level of submission [Khushu'a] and have more enjoyment during Salat..
There is another advantage for variety..
It is that, the person will gain the benefits of a great Hadith said by the prophet, SAW!
because, when you apply all the ways in Sunnah.. all the narrated methods..
So, you are showing them to people as being applicable.
many people follow a single pattern..
So, if you do a different method..
a method that is also applied by the prophet, SAW,..
this way you are preserving it.. so as not to be forgotten!
Doing so, I hope that you benefit from a great Hadith that is narrated from the prophet, SAW,..
'If a person was following my Sunnah.. And later.. people did as him, he will have as the rewards that they will get, by applying this way.. without diminishing their rewards a bit.'
Amazing..
These Sunnah practices are amazing..
What happens is that, Usually when you begin Salat you do not have a specific thing in mind.. You are programmed!
Do you know something.. Some people begin their Salat with lying!
Yes, as he begins his Salat.. he lies..
How?!
Brothers, there are two types of people, in Takbeer..
Those who say it with their hears reflecting about its meanings!
meanings of [Allahu Akbar]
others say it with their hearts thinking of nothing.. or about Dunyah issues!
If that was the case, then he is saying [Allahu Akbar][ Allah is Greater] and his heart didn't believe what his mouth is saying!
This what I mean, that some people begin Salat with a lie..
Saying; [Allah is Greater] and they are thinking of Dunyah!
of other issues.. for them, they are greater!
So they are lying by saying Allah is the Greater.. what does Allahu Akbar mean?!
It has deep meanings..
Allahu Akbar, and you are thinking of your car?!!
Allahu Akbar, and you are thinking of you house?!!
[Allahu Akbar].. Allah from word Ilah.. i.e. the deity that is worshiped.
And this name is for Him only.. never given except to Him.. Allah.
Some other Names of Allah are given to some of his servants.. but yet, they do not apply on them with perfection.. for example..
As; Al-Azeez..
"They said, "O 'Azeez, indeed he has a father [who is] an old man.. "
And Yusuf didn't object that they would call him Al-Azeez!
And also, Shu'ayb, peace be upon him..
His people said to him; " Indeed, you are the forbearing[Al-Hleem], the discerning[Al-Rasheed]!""
and so on.. with the exception of two Names!
they are for Allah alone.
The word of Sublimity[Galalah]; Allah..
And the Name; Ar-Rahman.
These two names are never given to anyone else!
and Allah mentioned them together in His Book, He said:
"Say, "Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful[Ar-Rahman]. Whichever [name] you call - to Him belong the best names."
Allahu Akbar[Allah is The Great].. Takbeer is a Glorification..
Allah, Almighty. said: "and glorify Him[Kaberhu], with [great] glorification[Takbeera]"
Allah, Almighty, has His absolute Grandeur and Sovereignty that is everywhere..
He, Almighty, said: "And to Him belongs [all] grandeur within the heavens and the earth.. "
He is the Grandeur.. the Great..
He is above His [Arsh] over the seventh Heaven..
So, His entity is above our limits of understanding..
and His attributes are above our limits of perception..
And if a person wants to know about the greatness of His Lord.. his Sublimity.. His Attributes..
he can observe the signs that are in the universe
There are great creations of Allah that are present around us..
they are talking to us!
saying that Allah is Greater..
But, we can't hear them!
What does the action of lifting the hands mean?
.. while Takbeer?
Raising the hands like this, is a sign of surrendering.. submission..
You are throwing Dunyah behind your back..
and raising the hands surrendering..
.. in submission to Allah, Almighty.
"When his Lord said to him, "Submit", he said "I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds.""
When you pronounce Takbeer..
major changes happen around you..
things become different..
Your wrongdoings raise up to your shoulders..
Yes, as soon as you say; Allahu Akbar, your bad deeds will raise up to your shoulders..
He, SAW, said:
'When the servant stands up to pray, all his bad deeds are gathered and put on his head and shoulders..
so, every time he does Raku'a or sujood [kneels or prostrates].. they fall down off his back!.'
they fall when you bend down during Salat.
Another matter that happens.. Allah brings His Face in front of yours!
He, SAW, said:
'During Salat, Allah keeps His Face in front of His slave's as long as he doesn't turn his head.'
And during Salt, a certain Shaytan interferes, his name is Khunzub..
He is specialized in this matter.. to spoil your Salat!
A fourth matter is that; during Salat some Halal[permissible] behaviors become forbidden..
Not to speak.. not to eat..
no unnecessary movements.. no laughing.. no smiling..
even looking, a person must not to look above!
and if you do, you may lose it!
as we were told by the prophet, SAW,
Great things!
He, SAW, said:
'The key of Salat is ablution..
and its restrictions begins with Takbeer[Takbirat Al-Ihram]..
and the release from these restrictions is by Tasleem[The action and saying; Assalamu Alaikum]
It is getting into a completely different atmosphere!
Allahu Akbar[Allah is The Great]
So, with this Takbeer you are in Salat.
This is the moment that you were preparing yourself for, from the moment that your Lord has called you; 'Haya Ala As-Salat..' [Come to Salat].
Some highly submissive persons can feel the difference.. between before and after Takbeer.. the atmosphere is no longer the same!
His feeling is totally different from the way it was before entering Salat!
he feels Rahba [feeling of fear with respect].. and Hibah[feeling the enormous Dignity and Glory of the Lord]..
O man!! he is now standing in front of the Hands or the Sovereign
Suppose a Broadcaster or so, was in front of cameras.. and they gave him the sign that he is in a live streaming now..
Why would he feel nervous..not the same, as he sees the sign?!
Though, he doesn't see the viewers!! not a single one of them!
So, why this feeling of Rahbah[ fear]..
Because, he is certain that there are people watching him, even though he doesn't see them!
Your certainty that there is Who is in front of you at your Salat, is greater!
He, SAW, said:
'To worship Allah as if you are seeing Him..
and if you can't see Him, He can see you!'
So, if you turn your head.. if you look to some where else.. while in Salat..
Ibn Al-Qayyim tells a narration:
'When the servant turns during his prayer..
with his heart.. or with his vision..
Allah also will turn away from him.'
And it was narrated that Allah Almighty will say to him:
'To better than Me?!'
i.e. if the person lost concentration during Salat..
'.. To better than Me?!'
Absolutely not, by Allah, nothing is better than You , my Lord!.
who can be better than You, my Lord!
Glory to You, we didn't worship you the way we should!
What a shame, how can we face Allah after all of that?!
I swear by Allah, that after a person wakes from his inattention during Salat.. he will feel embarrassed
Because, he was inattentive for a while during Salat
And Glorify Him the way you should..
And you must bend your head down.. [as a sign of respect].
Yes!
we've began Salat, now we are in Salat..
After Takbeer, now we are in Salat!
During Salat, you must bend your head down..
Because, this is the ideal posture of the slave in front of his Master.
And in front of the Hands of Allah, you are nothing but a slave.. of His slaves..
So, please bend your head down.
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
'During Salat the person must stand with his head bent down looking to the ground....
The prophet, SAW, was used to stand during Salat with his head bent down.
.. looking at the ground..
So, look at the site of Sujood.
This is a sign of glorifying and submission to the beloved..
Ibn Al-Qayyim said in the book; [The paradise of lovers]..
' And from signs of loving is to direct your gaze at the ground..
.. when his beloved looks at him.'
Ibn Al-Qayyim said: 'And that is due to feelings of dignifying.. embarrassment.. and glorifying.'
And Allah is our first beloved..
And of course, Allah looks at you at Salat.
He, SAW, said: 'if you begin Salat, do not turn you heads..
.. because Allah sets His head in front of His servant as long as he doesn't turn away.'
He, SAW, said:
'Allah will stay attentive to his slave during his Salat..
as long as he doesn't turn away..'
And what if he did?!
he said: ' So, if he turned his head..
He will leave him!'
Subhan Allah.
What a pity?!.. it is disappointing that Allah leaves you!
And there are two ways of[ turning away]..
by looking at a different direction or by distracting the heart
Turning away the head or the heart!
Be careful!
and inattention will distract the heart.
Allah, Almighty, told us how polite was His messenger.. at the night of Isra'a..
When Allah raised him up to Heavens..
He, SAW, was perfectly polite in front of the Hands of the Sovereign..
Allah, Almighty, said:
"The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]."
This behavior is a high degree of politeness..
So, brothers..
Amro Ibn Al-Ass before entering Islam, he used to hate the prophet, too much..
to the extent that he wished to get him and kill him!
But after he entered Islam, he said: 'I couldn't look at him for a long time to be satisfied from looking at his, out of admiring him.'
after he became Muslim, he couldn't satisfy his eye from looking at him.. feeling his reverence..
'.. And if I am asked to describe him..
I couldn't!!'..
i.e. I don't know how he looks like.. I didn't look at him from the first place!
Veneration!!
This humbleness that we are showing to Allah, is not a kind of humbleness that would degrade the slave..
Actually it is a dignity.. an honor..
He, SAW, said:
'When you show Humbleness to Allah, He will raise you up."
But, looking to the sky during Salat..
this is forbidden.
The prophet, SAW, said:
'People who gaze at the sky while praying Salat.. they must stop, or..
they will not see!'.
they will lose their sight!.
And in another narration he said: 'Or their vision will be taken!'
He, SAW, said about turning the head.. during Salat..:
'It is stealing.. that Shaytan steals from the Salat of the servant!'
Do you know.. it is like theft.
OK. should I close my eyes or keep them open?
Many people ask this question.. can I close my eyes?
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
'Closing the eyes during Salat, wasn't from the teachings of the prophet,SAW,..'
So,
Ibn Al-Qayyim said: ' so, if opening the eyes doesn't affect submission [Khushu'a], it is better to open them.'
but if it prevents him from submission [Khushu'a]..
as having ornaments at the Qiblah where he prays..
or seeing a child..
or decorations in front of him..
and it is hard for him to have submission [Khushu'a] without closing his eyes..
He said if there are factors distracting him, so it is not unfavorable to close his eyes.
he can..
But, The basic rule is that the person must resist closing his eyes.
As instructed by our Sheikh, Ibn Uthaymeen.
Then he puts his right hand over his left hand on his chest..
Now, I'll show you how to put the right hand over the left hand..
of course, now we are done with Takbeer..
the head is bend down.. looking to the ground..
what is next?
you will but your right hand over the left.. like this!
You've already said; Allahu Akbar.. then..
Look..
You put..
the right hand..
over the left hand..
on the chest.
He said: on the back of his left hand..
he puts the palm of his right hand.
How?!
we have three sites here.. on the left hand..
the back of the left hand..
and on it is the right palm..
and make sure that you cover the left wrist at the same tine..
and reach to part of the left arm..
So, it covers like this..
it covers these three sites..
where? on the chest.
Don't drag them up like this.. No.. just on the chest.
This way!
The prophet. SAW, has instructed his companions to do it this way,
And sometimes he catches his left hand with his right hand..
and puts them on the chest.. like this..
So, you can put the right hand over the three sites on the left hand..
or you may hold your left hand..
So, which one am I supposed to do?!
As we've said before!
sometimes you do this way, other times you do the other way.. alternate.. so as to keep being alert!
We may ask, what the secret behind putting the right hand over the left hand during Salat?!
Imam Ahmad, may Allah put mercy on him, he answers this question..
he was asked what is the meaning of that, he said: 'It is humbleness in front of the Hands of The Exalted in Might[Al-Azeez].'
Honorable brother..
In front of the Hands of Allah, you are a slave.
And He is the King, Glory to Him.
Then you continue by saying the opening Dua'a[ Istiftah], it is a way of greeting..
With that, you greet the King of the kings..
So, When you get in.. to His presence.. you greet Him!
As people begin by greeting kings as they enter in their places.
Mostly, every nation has its way of greeting its king.
Everyone is trying to be creative on greeting the beloved..
So, how are you going to greet your Lord?
The rule is; [At-Takhliya before At-Tahliya] i.e. That a person must first rid himself of evil before he is satisfied with good.
What does that mean..
When a person has a problem or a deficiency with the beloved.. he would be despondent on meeting him!
.. would feel sad on seeing him.. because of that issue!
And as that problem is solved, he can meet him!
Sometimes, a person asks you to do him something for him..
then he calls you..
but, though you love him, yet you can't answer his call..
Because, you didn't do that he requested you..
If you do your obligations....
that he asked you to do..
then you will accept to meet him!
then you will answer to his phone calls.
And for you, you will meet Allah.. you must!
But, how many obligations that you didn't fulfill?..
how many sins that you didn't make amends for them?!
So, at the beginning of Salat, Allah taught us what would eliminate that embarrassment..
So, he instructed us to say in Dua'a Al-Istiftah..
Listen to this greeting;
'Allahumma, make a distance between me and my mistakes, as You've made a distance between sunrise and sunset..
Allahumma, purify me from my mistakes, as You've made the white garment clean from dirt..
Allahumma, wash my mistakes off me, with water, snow and hail.'
Amazing words.. the prophet, SAW, was used to say them at Fard Salat.
'Allahumma, make a distance between me and my mistakes' is about the mistakes that I didn't do them yet.
as there are mistakes that might happen to me, Allahumma keep them away from me.
And the prophet, SAW, has asked that the distance is to be extremely long.. as between sunrise and sunset!
then he said, Allahumma, wash my mistakes off me..
Now, it is about the mistakes that I've done.. erase them..
the first group of mistakes, I didn't do them, so keep me away from them..
but, here.. I've done them!
i.e. purify me from the mistakes that I've done.
Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allah put mercy upon him, said: 'the last statement is stronger than the first one.'
'.. as You've made the white garment clean from dirt..'
The prophet, SAW, has mentioned the white garment, because any dirt on the white garment will be obvious, in contrast to other colors..
And the last statement is for requesting more refinement..
for purification!
He, SAW, said; 'Allahumma, wash my mistakes off me, with water, snow and hail.'
water is cleansing..
snow and hail, they cool..
So, we have both cleaning and cooling!
A person mighty say; water is enough, it washes all the dirt..
Why do we have also; snow and hail?!
People of knowledge said that mistakes cause the believer to feel regrets.. sorrow..
and sorrow develops heat in the body..
So, washing with water will remove the dirt of the mistake, but the heat is still there, in the chest!
and washing it with snow will remove the heat of the mistake from the soul.
and then hail will add to that and puts off the heat of sorrow caused by the mistake..
and so, all the traces of the mistake will be eliminated!
Amazing interpretation by the people of knowledge!
One of the benefits of this Dua'a, of Istiftah, is that it provides you with a constant rate of elimination of mistakes, that is continuous.. it never decreases
Five times a day, it renews repentance..
daily!!
at least five times..
And the best place to renew repentance is Mihrab[praying site].
and there is no better occasion that is more likely to bring a response, better than during Salat!
There is another Dua'a for Istiftah..
What is that?!
'Allahumma, Glory to You, with Praising You.. Blessed is Your Name.. and higher is Your Grandeur.. and no Ilah only You.'
interchange..
this is another means to diversify your ways each time you pray. As we did with putting the hands and with Takbeer.
This last Dua'a of Istiftah, is very great!
that the prophet, SAW, said that the most loved words to Allah is that when the servant says;
'Allahumma, Glory to You, with Praising You.. Blessed is Your Name.. and higher is Your Grandeur.. and no Ilah only You.'
Many people of knowledge said that this Dua'a is to be said at Salat Nafilah[ voluntary Salat].
The first one at Fard Salat.. this one at Nafl Salat.
Why?
scholars say that the first Hadith was narrated by Abu Hurairah..
And the second one was narrated by Umm Al-Momineen Aisha, may Allah be pleased with them all..
And as abu Hurairah used to be with the prophet, SAW, more in the Masjid..
this means that the prophet SAW, used to say that Dua'a at Fard Salat..
And Umm Al-Momineen Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, has narrated the second Dua'a' for Istiftah..
And she knows better about the prophet, SAW, at his home, as being his wife..
and the prophet, SAW, was used to pray Nafilah at home..
So, this indicates that the prophet, SAW, was used to say..
'Allahumma, Glory to You, with Praising.. ' This second dua'a of Istiftah..
at Nafilah Salat.
'Allahumma, Glory to You, with Praising..
Tasbeeh; is distinction and separation.. of Allah apart from all that is inappropriate for Him
i.e. if there is something that is improper for Allah, we keep it away from Allah.
consider Him too exalted.
Tahmeed; is the opposite!!
It is the confirmation.. approval.. that all the perfect attributes and the perfect actions.. they belong to Allah, Almighty.
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
'And when the slave says this Dua'a..
He will visualize with his heart, a Lord Who is deemed exalted above all faults..
free from deficiency..
praised with all kinds of appraisals..
So, Tahmeed; includes describing Him with all that is perfect.
and consequently, He is free from all faults.'
Next.. '.. And Blessed[Tabaraka] your Name..'
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
'His Name is Tabaraka, so that, if it is said over the little, it will make it plenty!'
The Name of Allah..
when is is mentioned on a few.. it will make it increase..
What is the meaning of that?
When you add the Name of Allah,Almighty, to something it will increase it.
or to goodness, it will make it grow.. and be better..
or to wickedness, it will make it vanish..
or on Shaytan, it will defeat him..
with failure and frustration.'
That was the end of his talk.. my allah put mercy upon him.
Next.. '.. and higher is Your Grandeur[Jadduk]..'
[Jadduk] means your greatness..
Linguistically, Al-Jadd has many meanings including..
is the grand father.. from father side or mother side..
So, he is a relative..
Of course, it is impossible to apply it here..
in the Hadith.
As Allah, Almighty, neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.
So, Linguistically, the word has another meaning..
It means The Grandeur..
i.e. Exalted Your Greatness..
ant this is the meaning of the Hadith.
'.. and Exalted is Your Grandeur.'
Next; '.. and no Ilah only You.'
Of course, You are the only Ilah..
after saying all that.. Allahumma, Glory to You, with Praising You.. Blessed is Your Name.. and Exalted is Your Grandeur..
Sure it is '.. no Ilah only You.'.
because, if He is the only Lord, then, He must be the only deity to be worshiped[Ilah].
[La Ilah Ila Allah, means that no deity that worth worshiping, only Allah.
O Allah, very beautiful words..
And the way that Allah has taught us to begin the meeting with Him.. amazing!!
One of the benefits of Dua'a of Istiftah is that it gather meanings of greatness in your heart.. and it opens doors of contemplation upon verses..
because in this Dua'a, we approve Greatness and Exalted Grandur for Allah alone..
So, after extracting arrogance from the slave..
this will remove the cover that was preventing understanding the meanings of the verses and reflecting upon them!
Allah, Almighty said:
"I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right.."
Ibn Katheer explained this verse, he said
As they were arrogant without right, Allah has dishonored them with ignorance!
This last Al-Istiftah is Glorification.
for Allah from the slave.
And the Istiftah before..
'Allahumma, make a distance between me and my mistakes.. '
It is a forgiveness from Allah to the slave.
So, the Wise Ruler has provided His slave with varied means to apply them during Salat..
Some that is from the slave to Allah..
and some that is from Allah to the slave.
and he alternates between them..
We can find the same idea in Surat Al-Fatiha..
there are verses for the slave..
and verses for Allah..
In Hadith Qudsi, Allah said: 'I've divided Salat between me and my slave in halves..
"[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds "
is for Allah..
"The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful" is for Allah.
"Sovereign of the Day of Recompense." is for Allah..
I praise You because you've allowed me to enter Your house..
and made me stand in front of Your Hands..
and talked to me so that I can talk to You..
Do people talk to anyone?
I praise You that You allowed me to talk to You and to enter in Your house..
Do we feel this?!
Do you know that Shaytan gets severe jealousy when the slave stand in front of the Hands of his Lord?!
So, when the slave is standing in front of the Hands of his Lord, Shaytan will try his best to distract him!!
Only..
to make him come out of this great position, of Salat.. unapproved.. not praised.
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
' Shaytan is jealous from the slave when he stand to do Salat..
because, that is the greatest and the closest position..
and the most provoking to Shaytan..
the most upsetting..
So, he is trying his best.. very keenly to prevent him from standing in this position!
Subhan Allah, and Shaytan also whispers to the slave.. confuses him..
and gives him thoughts.. and invites the slave to them.. and he listens to him!
and gets dragged with Shaytan..
and follows him..
wherever he drags him..
He says to him; think about this.. he thinks!
move to this.. he moves to it!
and think about this too.. he thinks!
Suddenly!!
Imam says; Assalamu Alikum Wa Rahmatu Allah.. Assalamu Alikum Wa Rahmatu Allah.
Suddenly..
the woman at home does not know, how many Rakat did she pray?
Shaytan is annoying!!
They say that Shaytan during Salat is like a fly..
every time it is driven away[Thuba].. it returns[A'bb]!
that's why it is called [Thubab]!!
because, every time it is expelled away[Thuba].. it comes back[A'bb]!
Now, we've reached; 'I seek refuge with Allah from Shaytan the accursed.'
Why has Allah made this statement in our Salat?
The matter of Shaytan is strange.. obscure..
During Salat, he gives you excellent solution..
for old problems..
absolutely perfect answers..
Where was that solution before Salat?!
I can't get it.. NO, It doesn't come!!
Why?
Because, Shaytan is saving it for the battle of Salat.. to conquer you!
All the excellent ideas come only during Salat!
And he goes on like this, till you come out from Salat without benefits!
And if the person noticed this.. after Salat is over.. and remembered these resolutions....
then maybe!!
But, the problem is that he will not remember the issues that Shaytan was taking to him about!
and also, he didn't have submission [Khushu'a] during his Salat.. he has lost Dunyah and Akhirah.
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
'And he will come out from his Salat as he began it, with all his mistakes and sins..
and with his heavy loads..
they didn't become any lighter with Salat!
because Salat eliminates the mistakes of the person who does it right..
with complete submission [Khushu'a]..
standing in front of the Hands of Allah, Almighty, with his heart and his body..
this person is the one who will feel different after Salat.. with a lighter soul..
he will feel that loads are lifted from his body!
and having feelings of energy.. of relief.. of rest..
to the extent that he would wish not to come out of it.. because it is the comfort for his eyes..
and the pleasure of his soul.
and the paradise of his heart.. and his relief in this Dunyah.
honorable brother..
How many times you were defeated by Shaytan at the battle of Salat?
How many times he could distract you from Salat?
then left you..
laughing and giggling happily..
because of what he did to you!
You work hard to collect good deeds from varied ways related to Salat.. from ablution [Wado'a]..
from walking to Masjid..
from leaving your work and business..
then you become absent-minded during Salat..
and Shaytan takes from you, as much as you didn't focus!
Ibn Al-Qayyim said: ' All the scholars have agreed that the servant will have from his Salat only the amount that he has apprehended with his mind..
and he has perceived with his heart.'
the period and the degree of submission during Salat..
are the guides for the amount of good deeds that you will have..
So, if they are much then you will have much .. and if they are less then you will have less rewards.
What are you going to do about this?!
You must resort to your Lord.
So, Allah is giving us the solution.. for Shaytan of Jinn..
in the same verse, He said:
"And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing."
Allah, Almighty, said:
"And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah ]"
Notice this.. "seek help"
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
In his book; Al-Wabil al-Sayyib..
'It was narrated that Allah, Almighty..
when the slave stands for Salat..
our Lord will say;
' take up the covers..'
So, the cover between you and Allah will be removed up..
He said: ' but if he turns away..
[i.e. the slaved turns away.]
Allah, Almighty, will say let them down!'
[i.e. let the covers down again].
Allahu Akbar..
Ibn Al-Qayyim said: 'And this turning away was explained as turning away from Allah by the heart..
to other issues.'
So the heart turns away..
You begin your Salat with submission and so on.. then..
you began to think of your family.. your wife..
your dinner.. you work..
He said: ' and if he turns to other than Him..
He will lower the cover between Him and the salve.'
That's it.. covers are separating..
He said: 'Then Shaytan enters..
and he began to show him issues.. from Dunyah..
more and more of like this..
'And if he was devoted to Allah with his heart..
without turning away..
Shaytan will not be able to enter between him and Allah, because there are no covers separating them...
Shaytan can enter only if the covers fall in-between..
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
'So, if he ran to Allah, Almighty..'
All this is the saying of Ibn Al-Qayyim..
He said: 'So, if he ran to Allah, Almighty..
with all his heart..
Shaytan will run away!
and if he turns..
Shaytan will come.
Ibn Al-Qayyim said:
' This is how he is with his enemy during Salat'.
He is always like this!
between him and his enemy.
and the covers might be up or down.
And so on..
If you keep this in mind during Salat..
you will understand what is your relation with Shaytan.
and you must know that Shaytan doesn't want you to do sins only..
NO!!
he is looking forward to big objectives..
Do you know what is the primary objective of Shaytan..
his most important target..
He wants you to disbelieve!
Why?
because, he..
was evicted from Jannah..
because of you!
So, he hates you very much.. and he doesn't want you to enter Jannah..
and to accomplish this, he tries to make you disbelieve..
Allah, Almighty, said:
"Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise.."
".. and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.
So, you must know that Shaytan is not going to stop at one point, but he will keep going up..
So, if he couldn't make you associate others with Allah[Shirk]..
he tries to make you fall in [Bida'ah] [ doing what is different from religion]
and if he couldn't make you do [Bida'ah]..
he tries to make you do big sins[Kaba'ar]
then you do them all..
And if you refrain yourself from doing big sins..
he will accept from you doing small sins..
better than nothing..
Small..Small.. small.. bigger than small..
till they become big sins..
OK. start with the small ones..
But, if man was protected, he doesn't do even the small sins!
Do you know what this evil creature will do?
He will try to make you go deep in the sea of the permissible[ Mubah]..
and the allowable are many..
Why?
so as not to do what is preferable[Mustahab]!
And if you were in the gardens of preferable deeds..
do you know what he would do? he never gives up..
What he can do to me?.. I'm doing all the preferable deeds..
Is there anything more than this?
Yes!!
Do you know what he will try to do?
He will try to shift you from the more preferable to the less preferable deed!
e.g. You fast..
he tries to make you fast on Tuesday not on Monday!
he tries to make you pray [Witr] at the beginning of the night not at the end of the night!
And so on!!
"Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy.. "
